Met some friends here for lunch on a Saturday and immediately fell in very serious like with this place. As we often do, everyone tried something different on the menu so we could share a cross section of the menu. So here is what we tried: Betsy: if you love chicken wings, this is the plate for you. The chicken was well prepared and when combined with the blue cheese and buffalo sauce you have a taste your familiar with.... But with a twist. Chicken & Waffles: yes you can get lots of chicken & waffles in Nashville but there is something about a chicken breast pounded flat, pan seared, then put atop a waffle with some great syrup. A must try is you eat here. Spinach Salad: yes there's alway one salad eater in he crowd. Would recommend the spinach salad with cranberries and feta cheese. The flavor combo was fantastic as was the discovery of jacks chicken somewhere hidden under all that good salad. In short, you should give the Flipside a try. Good food, good service and a very cool vibe.

Ok, this place is good if you're in the mood for chicken. However, if you are with a group of people where your party isn't a bunch of chicken lovers, you may have a problem. If you want variety, this is not your place. The chicken I had (can't remember the name, but it had the cheese, BBQ sauce on it) was pretty good, though. It is in a great location and has a cool vibe. Just a weird place.

I was super excited about this place. Who doesn't love fried chicken? Unfortunately, it did not measure up to even the most conservative of expectations. A group of friends and I went to dinner here on a Saturday night. We were all pretty happy to see a completely different concept open up in 12-South. The results of the dinner were lacking. First, the pros. It does have a very neat atmosphere (read: hipster). There are card games on the table, sweet booths, and fancy decorations everywhere. Some of the drinks were actually really good. The black cherry old fashioned and the rum drink they had on the menu were both very nice. Finally, the tater tot nachos were good, not great, but good. The cheese they used on the tater tot nachos was a little iffy but the dish was flavorful and good to split for a table of four. Now for the cons. Wow, was I disappointed when I received the check. It was $80 bucks for three drinks between the girl and I, an appetizer split two ways, one Flip Side chicken, and one Memphis chicken. They actually removed the rum drink that she wanted and upped the prices from the menus available on their website which was just sad and greedy. Everyone at the table agreed that the chicken needed some extra seasoning. All of our dishes needed some salt (easy enough to do on fried chicken) and I would have appreciated if they tasted like their prices. Furthermore, every other drink the table had was terrible. The gin drink was especially gross so i exchanged it for the Old Fashioned. They were light pours as well. GF stated that she didn't even feel anything after two drinks. Not exactly a Patterson House-quality drink experience. Overall, I won't be back unless they seriously change. It's overpriced, the waiting system was clunky, and the drinks were just terrible. I can't see this place surviving in the 12 South restaurant scene unless they fundamentally change.

I really, really wanted to like this place! It has a great location and is so cute inside with its retro theme! The food is just okay though and the prices suck! The menu is just flattened chicken with toppings, sides are extra so a meal can easily get up to $20 without a drink! I got the chicken with BBQ sauce, bacon and cheddar as well as poutine. The food was pretty good but it wasn't anything special. Even if it were priced better I still don't think I would return.

The food was terrible. I got the Jambalaya, which was marked as a favorite I believe and I felt like I was in the high school cafeteria and someone dropped spaghetti on top of a flattened piece of breadcrumb battered chicken. My wife ordered a spinach garlic something or another and it was very simple on top of the same chicken. The atmosphere was pretty cool and the server was nice, which is why it got an extra star. I'd probably go back and try the drinks with a friend after work but I wasn't thrilled about the $12 cocktail selection. I'm not sure why these new joints in Nashville think it is okay to charge $12 for a simple cocktail, but thats another story.

3.5 stars. My friends and I had dinner here one night during opening week, which usually means 1.) the restaurant will be crowded as hell, and 2.) they're still working out the kinks. While #1 certainly didn't disappoint (not complaining), I definitely give them props for having prompt, friendly service. I also appreciated being welcomed back by who I assume was the manager or owner on the way out. But here's why I can't give them exactly 4 stars: as one of my friends so perfectly stated (and some of my fellow Yelpers have already noticed), this is drunk food. And drunk food on principle shouldn't be so expensive. Now I get it, I get it. When you open a place in 12 South, there's a 20% Belmont kids tax on everything. But when parking is atrocious in such a condensed area and I'm paying more for (albeit delicious) drunk food, I'll probably end up going somewhere else. In short: cute place to go with as a group or to celebrate something, but I wouldn't make this a regular spot.

I really wanted to like this place! It has a great location with an open airy retro look. The food is just okay the menu is basically chicken with toppings, sides are extra so a meal can easily get quite pricey. Glad I tried it but it wasn't anything special. Get the concept but I eat so much chicken at home, no reason to go out and spend that much money on chicken.

This is one of my favorite places in town! The staff is friendly and fun, the place has a great vibe and when the garage doors are up, you can't find a better place to spend a pretty day. The food is great! Tater tot nachos are a MUST! My favorite dish is the Primo, but I've tried most of them and I've yet to have one I don't like! The portions are huge, I almost always end up taking home leftovers. The "Thurston Howell" is a great cocktail, featuring local Belle Meade Bourbon, and who doesn't love that?! I've been for Sunday brunch and enjoyed 2-for-1 Bloody Mary's, and they have an awesome canned beer selection! I really have nothing but good things to say about this place. They continue to get better the longer they are open...brunch, lunch, dinner, seriously you can't go wrong here!

The Flipside was an accidental find when our original destination was closed. The space is cool inside and out. They have some fun things on the menu and creative names. I like the names on the menu. I got the Cedar Lane and, while waiting, we shared a tater tot nachos. The latter was almost exactly what you'd get if you bought nachos at most pubs, but with tots. We enjoyed them, but I'm not sure it was worth $9 since this isn't a major league stadium. The chicken on my Cedar Lane was OK. A little greasy and salty. The toppings were fresh and well portioned except for what seemed like a balsamic vinaigrette spill on one side. Like the tots, it felt just a little overpriced. The service was friendly, had a good sense of humor, and was helpful. All said, this would be a great last stop on a night out or happy hour, since they're open late and have big open windows. The prices could be a touch lower to get a bigger dinner and lunch crowd.

Love this place! Have been 3 or 4 times now and get something different each time...Everything is great. The premise is that instead of beef, they serve chicken...thus the "flipside" of burgers. The chicken breasts are pounded thin, lightly breaded, and pan fried til done. The menu consists of what to put on top of your chicken--won't spoil it for you, but really clever names for the topping combinations. Oh, I did have the salmon over wilted spinach and it was awesome too. It's got high ceilings so it's very airy and spacious. The noise level is a bit high so conversation is challenging, but don't let that stop you from going. Great food!
Nothing special here at The Flip Side. The menu was pretty pricy for what you as a portion and taste. We had the poutine, and it's fries with gravy and a fried egg was not a wow dish at all- price point should be $5 not $9. We then had the Popeye and Betsy. The Poppeye was okay, I'd order the chicken without bread crumbs next time. My husband ordered the Betsy as a sandwich which the bread was way too dry to eat but the spice of the Betsy was good. Drinks were good but not much options on the cider beer side. It's a cool place to take a first date since there is a game at each table. However, it's not impressive on the food side.

Impressed! The Flipside is one of those few restaurants that seems to just get it right from the start. There are a couple things they could improve from my perspective - but, overall - I don't have much to complain about. So, in order to get the bad stuff out of the way - let me mention those first so I can end on a happy note. The 'System' they have that lets you know when you table is available is clunky. They give you a 'Key' like you would see with an old hotel. The key has a number - they call your number when the table is available. However, the place is LOUD with people talking and music over the speakers. Our soft voiced hostess couldn't talk over the din so she was going from person to person and group to group to see if they were the next number up. She must have asked us 20 times our number. They need a loud speaker to call the numbers or a more traditional 'buzzer' system. This whole key thing isn't working and looks to be running the hostess ragged. The parking is non-existent. They don't want you to park at Mafiaoza's - and there is no parking anywhere else really except on the street. With the recent explosion of restaurants in there area - there aren't many places to park. They encourage you to ride your bike there - but, I don't have a bike and I live a good 20-25 minutes by car and taking the interstate. Riding my bike, if I had one, wouldn't be practical. And finally - the sides should be listed with the entrees I think. I didn't even think about it when I was deciding on dinner on what 'side' I'd like to have. I would have liked to have had some mac and cheese or fries or something along with my chicken. But, I didn't think about it because I was on the 'Flip Side' of the menu looking at the entrees. So, I ordered my entree and it came out, as described. Which means it was a big piece of chicken and nothing else. I dunno - kinda disappointing. Maybe its a suggestive upsell type of thing the server could have done or, again, putting the sides with the entrees would have prodded me to purchase a side dish with my meal. So - those are the downsides of this place. Now - for the good stuff. The design of the place is great. I told my friends that I wish I had garage doors for walls like this place does. It would be so nice to let the outside in like they do here. The 'Grape Ape' mural, the old signs, old style refrigerators, retro looking TV (which I think was an HDTV with a retro TV surround) playing old shows - to the way they set the table with just a fork and a kitchen towel...it was all very low key, laid back - but fun. And you should understand that this place is a chicken place. And it is all pan fried in olive oil with or without breadcrumbs and as a sandwich or not. The chicken has been pounded very thin - and then they serve is 15 different ways. Check the menu and you'll see what I mean. Its just one 'style' of chicken with different toppings. But, the chicken is excellent, cooked to perfection and what I had was great. I had the Betsy - which is their take on a chicken wing, I suppose. Its that same chicken - pounded thin - with breadcrumbs and pan fried. Mine was topped with buffalo sauce, lots of blue cheese crumbles and some celery. It was excellent. Our table also got two appetizers. The Poutine - which is something I had in canada years ago and have only ever seen it there...but, they bring it here and this version had the french fries covered in brown gravy, fresh cheese curds and a fried egg on top. It was great! We also had the Tater Tot Nachos. Those were amazing! Tater Tots, Cheese sauce, avocado, bacon, onions, tomatoes. Incredible! In all - the service was good. The food was great. We had a wonderful experience there and I honestly can't wait to go back.

I would have given it 4 stars, but I don't really like the food. Fortunately, there's more to a restaurant than food; if I was only scoring on atmosphere and drinks, I'd give it a 4. But, food. The atmosphere doesn't quite match the menu which is confusing to me. The food itself is just okay. It probably doesn't help that I'm not much of a chicken fan, let alone breaded chicken fan. I'd much prefer a happy hour here or before-dinner-drinks.

Went here on July 1st, Canada Day, (the owner is Canadian) so we had free Poutine which was great given the resources available. Had the Elvis Lives chicken with peanut butter and bananas which was an interesting mix. Service was great and even let us add to the music list. Would definitely recommend it. Bonus star for awesome service and being Canadian!

I hoped this new restaurant would be great, but honestly it wasn't even good, it was just OK. Their specialty is different toppings a top a thin slice of breaded chicken breast. I got the "Betsy" which is buffalo sauce blue cheese crumbles and chopped celery on top of the chicken breast and tater tots on the side; it tasted super average, I felt like I could have easily created the dish at home myself. The place itself was nice inside, cool vide, but super loud. The music was loud and you felt like you had to talk louder to be heard over it. I wouldn't come here again, but if you feel the need to try it, hope your experience is better than ours.

Order the Phucket.. or anything on the entire menu.. This place is the best thing since smashed chicken, deep fried, and shoved in your face. Chicken is their business, and business is GOOD. 12/10 will eat there until the apocalypse.

Still 4 stars. Love the Brussel sprouts and you need the tater tot nachos in your life... Just trust me on this. If not the nachos, at least the tots.

I'm new to Nashville from Brooklyn NY and am beyond excited to have found this place. It's on 12S a new and upcoming space and reminded me of home immediately. This restaurant is mirrored as an "old time" diner and they nailed it. The ambiance is perfect for a date or a girls night out. Staff is friendly and efficient. Food is A+ the tater tot nachos were strange but delicious and the Memphis chicken was good. The chicken is perfect! Definitely a great find in a wonderful city.

Had fun at this hybrid retro diner-cocktail bar while in Nashville. The pounded out chicken that is the core of the menu reminds me of Mom's home cooking. This version of "schnitzel" is all the rage in other cities that really got started on food trucks and migrated to restaurants. Hopefully Nashville will embrace this new and fun concept. It's funny seeing people complain about pricing in their reviews, the portions are huge and actually are a good value. This is a family run, independent place with a soul...

I was dign the feel of this joint. The chicken plates were hard to choose from. But, I managed to pick the Ranchero which was not what I thought when I picked but, let me tell you. It exceeded my thoughts and delivered on taste was point on.. Great food, service and decor = I'll be back...

First time at the Flipside and I have to say it's so cute inside. The white and Tiffany blue interior made for a beach house diner type feel. Happy hour ends at 7 with well drinks and wines for $5. The staff was super nice and friendly. I would say share the plates here, it can be a little heavy. We got the Betsy chicken, so next time maybe the Memphis.

Came here on a saturday night with a party of 5 at 9pm. We had never been there and it looked like a fun place! The restaurant was maybe half full. The hostess sat us and we sat for 15 minutes unnoticed.... so we got up and walked out. Also unnoticed.
Food was so bland. I felt like I was at Johnny rockets. The atmosphere was nice. Was super excited to have another place to eat in the area but unfortunately the food isn't up to par with the rest of Nashville's booming food scene.

Pounded chicken. Yep. Pounded chicken. The max score you can get is 2 stars for that as your shtick. The decor is nice, increasing the score by one star.

Pretty good food, but not worth it for what you pay. $13 for a beat down thin chicken slice with no sides. Not really for me. Our server wasn't very knowledgable about the menu or if the store even had honey mustard, but he was nice. Not much to offer as far as the menu goes. You can get chicken or chicken. Sides are all extra plus your drink, tax, and tip. I would recommend somewhere else if you want to spend $20 per person.
(2)
Mark S.
Good but not great. For $12 you get a chicken breast pounded flat with your choice of topping. If you would like fries, tots, or make it into a sandwich, it's extra. Just overpriced for what you get. On the other hand, the atmosphere and decor is great. If they started including a side with the chicken, I'd give it another star.

My husband and I went to dinner here after hearing the buzz about it. We consciously went early (like 6 o'clock-early) because we heard to expect a wait and I was glad we did. We only had to wait for about 5 minutes but within 10 minutes of our arrival there was a long line forming. We split a chocolate milkshake, I got the Greenway, and my husband got the Memphis. Looking at other tables we got the gist that we needed to order a side so we went with standard French fries to share. Our waiter said that some people order a side and some don't. Maybe we're big eaters but I was glad we went ahead and ordered a side based on the size of the entrees, even if only for variety purposes. The entree is a big piece of chicken - in my case it was topped with arugula and avocado. If they included a side with the price of the entree I'd be more inclined to eat there as it would feel like I'm getting more for my money. The decor is adorable and I LOVED how they had trivia cards at each of the tables. I wish other restaurants would do that! It was really nice having the garage doors open too. As for the quality of the food, the shake was excellent. The chicken was also good but it sort of seemed silly to spend $12 on breaded chicken that's so easy to make at home. The fries were nothing special. It sort of felt like a glorified Johnny Rocket's to me. The total cost of our meal for 2 was around $40 which just seemed very pricey for what you're getting. If I'm looking for an affordable dinner option on 12 South in the future I'd probably head to a Burger Up or Edley's. I have no doubt that the Flipside will become a staple in the neighborhood though and it's a good option to have!

First off I'll start with the positives. The food was good, the service was good and the retro-theme is executed well in a nice environment. However, the food was not great, the menu is limited and the pricing does not make them very competitive for a similar meal/experience.

We were looking for a fairly quick dinner before heading home after a fun day in Nashville. We happened upon Flipside (after stopping at another resturant in the area with a 30 minute wait). The hostess was really friendly and explained the menu. We were seated immediately. They do have a very limited menu but if you like chicken cutlets, breaded and fried it was a really fun restaurant. We had the And That (poutine and an egg) and the one with chili, cheese and onion. (the waiter said the onions were cooked, they were not). Our food arrived quickly and was very tasty and definately a full meal. They have garage door type windows that were open which was really nice. Overall it was just what we were looking for and I would definately return again, it was a little pricey but probably on par with the area.

Get the Phuket. Skip the kale soup. It's pretty basic. The Tater Tot Nachos are amazing but big so make sure you have people to share with.

The atmosphere is a spot-on blend of modern meets 1950s from the place setting to the booths to the decor/art. Well done, designers. Service was fantastic. There is definitely room for improvement with the menu- it's a little confusing, and there definitely needs to be a vegetarian/vegan option for the entrees. Overall, original feel and great place to hang out, enjoy the outdoors and try some pretty decent food.

Ehhh...was quite surprised to find just chicken sandwiches and tater tots were about it on the menu. I like chicken sandwiches but for $13 plus dollars no thanks. Hopefully they will add some different and exciting items to their menu. On a positive note, good looking restaurant and love the chalkboard outside!!

Pretty tasty! The bacon app was delish :). It was really packed Saturday around late lunch but there were seats at the bar so the hubs and I sat there. I grabbed a tequila drink from the menu. It was good and strong. It was the one with grapefruit juice. I probably wouldn't order it again though. My hubs ordered the brunch chicken as a sandwich. I ordered the one with cheese and mushrooms. I meant to order it without bread crumbs and was pretty disappointed with myself when I realized I forgot :/. They brought out my hubs really fast but forgot the bread so it went back to the kitchen. We weren't in a hurry at all but the bar tender did apologize a few times for the food taking so long. Food finally came and it was pretty good for how simple the concept seems. Nice large portion, but really? The sides are separate? It's really kind of a rip off when you consider that. My hubs preferred his chicken without the bread. He said it was really good though. Mine was really good also and for being a new restaurant I thought the service was pretty good. I'll be back. Knocking a star off for price.

I went to The Flipside for my first time last week with a group of friends and had a wonderful time. The interiors are attractive and inviting and so was the food. I had the ABC Salad with Grilled Chicken and was not disappointed. Sometimes when you order grilled chicken alongside a salad it can be quite a small portion, this was not the case at The Flipside. I received a large salad with two grilled chicken breasts. The food, service and interiors were outstanding. I've already recommended the Flipside to friends and will definitely go back myself.

I agreed to meet some friends here for dinner... After peeking at the menu and seeing the lines outside, I didn't think I was going to like it--but I was wrong. The crowd of people was deceiving. They got us in quickly and painlessly. And, we all loved our food even though it wasn't something I would typically go for. I was pleasantly surprised by my experience all in all.

Very, very bland food, more Midwestern than foodie-Nashville. Tator-tot nachos could be a wonderful signature dish but they fall way short. Chef needs to spice things up: ginger, garlic, salt and pepper.

Hate the food. Hate the atmosphere and the wait staff is inattentive and rude. It's like eating a Banquet meal except ten times more expensive, literally. Save yourself from the bad food and just go to Mafiosas or Anything else in the neighborhood instead. Your taste buds and your wallet will thank you!!

Every one that worked there had a really bad attitude. Our table was dirty and the hostess who seemed to be very angry (while talking to some one on her cell phone)barely wiped it off. We sat there without any server long enough to contemplate AND decide on a different place to eat after reading the entire menu. Which isn't to say much because there are a very small selection.

Went for lunch with a bunch from work on a Friday afternoon. Parking was a challenge. Service was pleasant. Food was well prepared and presented. Portions were ample. The chicken was nicely seasoned and ingredients were fresh. That said, we all felt like we were having lunch at the retirement center! The chicken breast had been pounded so thin that the breading was almost thicker than the piece of chicken. I have my own teeth, and can chew my own food. It was like a bigger version of Burger King's chicken fries. (yes, I admit , I have had them!) What did this poor chicken breast do to the chef that caused him to beat it to a pulp? The tater tots were tater tots, pretty much like Sonic. No, Sonic tots are crispier. Glad I went, but don't need to go back.

Very impressed by this niche' little good stop nestled in 12 south. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the open air setting graced by the massive glass garage doors is an nice touch. The food was very quite inspiring. I never thought you could make flattened breadcrumb encrusted chicken taste so good! And the bacon appetizer with maple syrup dipping sauce is a bacon lovers dream come true!

We were heading to get Jeni's ice cream when we just happened to ask a random guy if he knew of a better dessert place in the 12 South area. And he sent us to get milkshakes here! Definitely one of the best shakes I've ever had! The whole atmosphere was incredible. Laid back, old school, and trivia pursuit at each table! Don't miss this gem while in Nashville!
My husband and I had lunch here yesterday and weren't sure what to expect! The dishes are all based on a flattened, breaded chicken breast. From there, it's all additions. I had the "Parm" which had marinara sauce and mozzarella on it. It was pretty good. My husband had the "Betsy" which had blue cheese crumbles, diced celery and hot wing sauce - He wasn't crazy about it. What we both liked alot were the tater tot nachos, then again isn't everything better with cheese sauce? The staff who all looked to be in their early twenties we're knowledgable and attentive. Service was fast and food was hot. Great family atmosphere, kind of half outdoor with huge open garage doors overlooking 12th Avenue. Lot of local breweries represented

The food is so good! Not to heavy and very filling. Atmosphere is just as good as the food. Could have sat there all day! Trivial pursuit at every table. Fun!
First off, I loved the decor of this restaurant and the music, such a great vibe. Second, the service was great. Our party of six asked for a couple of modifications and our server was so accommodating. Lastly, my poutine was pretty delicious. I only tried a sip of my friends Bellini but the drink menu looked really good. My only hesitation about this place is it feels a bit expensive for what it is. It seems like a good place for a fun first date.

Be ready to have a mouth orgasim. One trick to ordering here is to be brave. Don't stick to chicken parm! Prefer to be dazzled and bewildered at the same time? Order the Memphis with the fried egg.... And eat the side pickles please! We also ordered the Poutine with some added Chili. I will say honestly, if I'm ever on death row, I will be ordering this! BEST IN SHOW for sure! The

I don't write reviews often but after seeing all the 3-star and below reviews, I felt I needed to share my experience. First off, the cons most people are saying are probably pretty accurate; the menu is limited almost completely to chicken dishes, and most of the choices are a little overpriced. However, I thoroughly enjoyed my choice and the portion I received. I ordered the phuket, and the combination of peanut butter, sriracha and thai slaw on the chicken was absolutely delicious. The portion size was incredible too, it could have easily been split between two people, so that made the $12 price definitely worth it. I also got the cheese fries and tots which were good but nothing that special (also a huge portion that can easily be split between 3 people.) The place was very crowded on Friday night around 8pm, and we were told there would be a 15 minute wait, but were sat pretty quickly, maybe after only waiting a little over 5 minutes. The decor of the place is definitely unique and had a very cool vibe to it. All and all I enjoyed it. A little pricey for what it is, but I would go back again for sure. Give it a try!
(4)

Not a bad place, the decor and vibe is really cool. I was underwhelmed with my dish, "flipside" chicken. The jambalaya was just off being a big fan of Cajun food I do not recommend this jambalaya. Again, not a bad place or a bad experience just underwhelmed with the food. This could be a really cool concept with a few changes!

Nedda P.
Cute decor, but overpriced and nothing so special. I haven't been disappointed after eating a meal in a longtime but Flipside just left a bad taste in my mouth. I ordered the Cedar Lane and it was just flattened chicken breast with greens and tomatoes (no dressing). Nothing special. My friend ordered the Parm and the marinera sauce tasted basic.
(2)
Brandon W.
Hip and fun atmosphere, but limited menu and average flavors. The drinks were good, but expensive. The bacon and maple syrup were fine but really nothing special. The Popeye was also good but really nothing special. We skipped dessert to go across the street to Jeni's, which was spectacular as usual.

5 Good Things and 5 Bad Things About The Flipside - to explain my 'in the middle' 3 stars Pro's Cool retro interior Clean Very nice staff Cool retro games on the table Free jug of water in cool retro glass bottle. Con's The loudest restaurant ever that you can't even hear your server or the person your sitting with or place your order. The food is bland and just okay The food is a little pricy for what you get Parking in that area is challenging Limited menu if you don't like chicken.

Wonderful ambience. Great bar and drinks. Food was disappointing. Strange menu. Not clear what the appeal of flat breaded chicken with every dish is??! We were there for lunch/brunch. Friendly but slow service.
(3)
Ying M.
I enjoyed my meal at Flipside but it is about $2 overpriced on everything. There is no reason to pay $9 for a plain, flat, breaded chicken breast, even if it is yummy. My table ordered the tater tot nachos, which were good but not great. My companions got the Flipside and the Brunch, both of which I was jealous of, and I got the Pedro. My Pedro was perfectly fine, but paled in comparison to the egg/bacon/jambalaya-topped dishes of my peers, which is what I get for trying to be somewhat healthy. If you're going to go to Flipside, don't bother with the healthy chicken options, just get the ones covered in cheese or bacon or chili or whatnot- you'll be much happier. Interested to see how this plays out- it seems like the venue is a bit more conceited than the food. I'd happily come back if someone else suggested it, but wouldn't make an effort to come myself. I did see some pretty rockin' looking cocktails, including a HUGE bloody mary, so maybe that will compensate somewhat for the food situation.

Disappointed in a couple of areas. My curveball dish was good, my wife and sons choices were just so-so. $50 for the three of us to get out the door. 2 of us had water and we shared the skimpy order of fries. A $12 piece of chicken should come with at least one side of fries. Nope, they charge four dollars for a small cereal bowl of fries. Lots of hype but not much to back it up. Cool decor, bad business model. Should have spent our money at Urban Grub

Great decor, music and service. Food was good, not great. Hot wings are tasty, the Memphis chicken is good. Overall a little expensive for the type of food you're eating but a fun atmosphere.

The food is not terrible, but this restaurant does embody some of the worst trends in new Nashville eateries: 1- overpriced. You'll spend a lot of money to get sandwiches for dinner. 2- LOUD! Minimalist decor looks cool, but it does not absorb sound. The volume of the music at this place doesn't help. Loud music is fun at a club or bar, but during a meal, it's just annoying. 3- short-weight beer servings. Bring back the good old pint glass! These undersized glasses are a rip-off and unsatisfying. 4- shared tables. Get rid of these, and when a big group comes in, push some 4-tops together. Here -- as at Silo, Fenwick, Rolf & Daughters, and other new places -- parties of 2 or 3 end up at a 'community' table, bumping elbows with strangers in a seating arrangement like a middle-school cafeteria.

Catch you on the flip side. . .uhhh The Flipside. +1 1/2 Stars for Decorations/Dining area. This place looks cool and playing episodes of Batman won us over immediately. Service was set and water was quickly placed with menus. Retro trivia cards on the table? Awesome! It was a nice night so the open air dining was warmly welcomed. Fun and funky immediately set this place apart from the average. Cool bar. Adam West. Clean and functional dining room that really started off the experience on a high note. It was loud inside but reasonable considering the time of night. +1 Star for Service. We were immediately acknowledged and greeted after arriving. Our wait for a table was less than five minutes. We were sat in a reasonable location considering that the dining rush was in full effect. Our waiter was polite, prompt and attentive despite being busy. +1/2 Star for Cocktails. We tried the La Paloma and Wicked Witch. I didn't care for the La Paloma to be honest. I was primarly interested in the grape fruit juice combination with Corzo but it ended up tasting like watered down grape otter pop clashing with some pretty decent tequila. Perhaps I was expecting actual grapefruit juice and not a grape soda (juice?) Also purple (Did my taste buds fail and think I was getting grape soda???). It just didn't work for me. The Wicked Witch was good in the terms of a rum drink and well balanced. -1 Star for Food. Wow, what a disappointment. I ordered the Tater Tot Nachos because the chicken options seemed better breaded, the fish seemed off for a place like this and salad options looked boring. He ordered the Poutine. The Fries/Gravy/Egg combo looked interesting (and I'm sure seemed like a good idea in terms of late night snacks) but was served in such an unappealing way that I didn't bother sampling it. He ate it dutifully and didn't order any of the specialty chicken dishes. So, I generally like tater tots and nachos seemed like the right tone for the place. Sadly, these potato "nachos" were bland and the cheese was a bad decision. It was just a mess. I ate some of it and regretted ordering it as my only dish to try. I ended up taking 3/4 of it home. Looking back, I wish I would have tried the Popeye without breadcrumbs. In fact, I wish I would have tried anything else. -1 Star for Price. ~$40 for two drinks and two appetizers which were edible but not enjoyable? Pass. Overall? I'll try it again for the chicken but definitely not worth the calories/cheat day Friday experience. 3/5 stars.

Trendy place, awesome decor, and friendly/ fast service. However, food is just okay. But the portions are huge. The tater tot nachos were great, however, you will have to share with probably two other people, or make it a meal yourself. Salads are giant, but just normal, not anything inventive in terms of flavor or ingredients. Yes, I do have to agree with others that everything is just slightly over priced. Drinks are okay too, for 10 bucks, I expected a lot more, both my bellini and my friends drink tasted like just juice. The atmosphere is great though, I wish they had happy hour!

Flipside...eh. The food is good but overpriced in my opinion for what you get. Essentially, you are paying for a piece of chicken flattened and topped with different toppings. You have to pay extra for a side or to make the chicken into a sandwich. I don't remember the name of the chicken I got but it had buffalo sauce and bleu cheese on top. I decided to make it in to a sandwich and add a side of fries. The bread was way too heavy and thick for a sandwich. I took the meat off and ended up eating it without the bread. The chicken was really good but I also asked for a side of extra buffalo sauce. The sauce had a good flavor to it too. Not too spicy but not too mild. You walk in and if it isn't busy you can pick whichever table you would like. Then, a server brings a cute jar of water and asks if you would like anything else to drink. It's funny, the jar says it is easy to pour and doesn't spill. First thing, as my brother in law is pouring his water, it spills. They do have a full bar but we unfortunately didn't get a drink menu. The decor is super cute. It has a retro theme but still clean and fun. That was the thing I think I liked the most. The atmosphere and decor. Flipside is not a restaurant I would really go back to unless I want to pay an expensive price for some flattened chicken.

Good food, good service, great tots (make sure there are lots of people to share). I had the plain chicken w arugula and opted not to have the fries. Too much eating this week!
Loved it!! Great look and vibe. The food was great. Perfect cocktails too. Can't wait to go back.

Very attractive interior Good service Edible food The food concept is very narrow. All entrees (except one...Salmon) are variations on a chicken breast that has been pounded flat, breaded (standard but optional), and pan fried in olive oil. Then the chicken is served with various accoutrements. For instance, "The Popeye" is accompanied by spinach, tomato, mozzarella, and balsamic drizzle; "The Memphis" is accompanied by bbq sauce, bacon, cheddar and a pickle; and "The Betsy" is accompanied by buffalo sauce, blue cheese and celery. The food wasn't bad, but if a restaurant is going to specialize on something so specific, it had better be something special...and it wasn't. I read another review that I completely agreed with...if the FlipSide switched to a traditional diner menu, they would be packed. However, we were there at prime-time on a night when Taqueria del Sol had a line out the door and the FlipSide was almost completely vacant. If the FlipSide doesn't make a radical change pretty quickly, I suspect they won't survive.

I think the current 3-star rating is perfect for this place. It does not suck, but it could totally improve. My husband and I went last...Saturday? Sure. It looked crowded, but we got a table right away. There is a box of Trivial Pursuit cards on every table; you can swap with the tables around you when no one's looking if you get the all-sports edition. Our server was nice, but he couldn't tell us about the draft list (they list the breweries, but they don't list the beers from said breweries). When we asked what was on tap, he just pointed to the draft list. We said "Right, but what ARE they?" I was actually feeling a cocktail that night, so I ordered a Black Cherry Manhattan. It would have been good if it hadn't tasted like black cherry whiskey water. We got the Tater Tot Nachos as an appetizer. That thing is $10. It wasn't a small appetizer, and it was good, but it was not $10 worth. The food is all right, but as other reviewers have pointed out, it is overpriced. The cheapest chicken dish (and that's basically all they have) is $9. All add-ons are extra. Our bill was over $60. I know this place is in a trendy area of the city, but the food COULD be a little more than 'all right' for that price.

Such an interesting take on chicken. The space has got cool vibes with vintage decor thats throwback to the 50/60's. Also they have a well stocked bar.

Great atmosphere ! I really enjoyed the food and the service was on point! I would recommend this place to anyone. I come here often and have never been unsatisfied. It is one of my favorite places to eat in 12 South. My favorite dishes are of course the Tot Nachos for starters...Main meals The Betsy, The Scooter and the Popeye. If your in the area don't miss this place!

I ordered the gumbo...and it was just okay. Too hipster and overpriced for my taste.

I love everything about this restaurant except the food. So I give them 1 star for trying and 1 star for atmosphere. My dish included fried chicken and jambalaya, how can that go wrong? It was quite possibly the worst food I have had in Nashville. The jambalaya had a Chef Boyardee quality. In fact, it was so dissimilar to what jambalaya should be that I wouldn't have known that's what it was if they hadn't told me. By itself, the chicken might have been okay, but the combination of everything just ruined it. Not sure I'll give it another chance since I don't live in the area, but hopefully they will make some improvements to the menu.

Girls night at Flipside and it was great! Adorable decor! Friendly staff! Scrumptious food! We will definitely be back. Wait was about 30 minutes but easy to order beverages at the bar and drink on the porch in the interim. Strong cocktails & some local beer on tap made me happy. I noticed on the reveiws several people mentioned parking as a "con" but I'm not holding Flipside accountable for that because parking is crazy everywhere in 12 South. Ordered the Tots Nachos and literally scraped the plate clean. Ordered 3 chicken entrees between us - Phuket (OMG I'm getting that perfection next visit), the All That (poutine inspried, huge portion, truly a meal on a plate), and the Memphis (can't go wrong with bacon, bbq sauce, pickles and cheese in my world).

Great drinks and fun atmosphere! Brunch is a must have - chicken and waffles and 2 for 1 mimosas and bloody marys. Tots all day- especially love the breakfast tots!

This is my second visit to flipside. This was much better than the first time. The service was good and the server was friendly. 2 stars because of the food. I think the chicken sucks. It's dry, tiny, and tasteless. It tastes microwaved. VERY limited menu.

This restaurant needs a chef. The atmosphere is great, the concept is unique and you couldn't ask for a better location. The menu needs to be burned and the kitchen needs to start over. Ditch the all olive oil and bread crumb chicken with toppings and the nacho tots. Throw it all in the dumpster and go with some traditional diner food. You will be the hottest restaurant in town if you do that.

Funky retro & just a great idea. I love the Grape Ape! Who would've thought that so many different toppings would taste so good on chicken. It sounds strange but the Phuckett is very good. Loving the spicy peanut butter taste. Please get the poutine whats not to love? Fries, cheese, gravy & egg. Apparently the Canadians are responsible for this gem. Must check it out.

Very cool spot. Cheap beer, awesome tater tots appetizers and an extensive menu of chicken any way you could imagine. I had the flipside, chicken with jambalaya and a fried egg. It was delicious, and filling, and very modestly priced.

The service here was exceptional. Our server, Andrew, took amazing care of us. Food came quickly, no drink went empty and he helped with menu choices. The food was incredible. Very hoy and perfectly prepared. The poutine as an appetizer was a great choice. The jambalaya was also very good. Definitely give this place a try.

In Nashville visiting my daughter and she took us here. The food was good. An interesting take on chicken. I had the curveball and my wife had the greenway, both good dishes. The setting is open and airy. Last nite was in the 70's so with the doors open it was great. I recommend it.

Great service, great food! I'm pretty obsessed with the decor, too :) I had the chicken and waffles, which were delicious, but will definitely be going back soon to try the Memphis. Did I mention they have 2 for 1 mimosas, bellinis, and bloody Mary's for brunch on Sunday's? Killer. Make sure if Matt's working the bar, you have him make you a breakfast shot with Pickers Blueberry Vodka!

My husband and I walked almost 3 miles from our hotel to The Flipside just so I could try The Big Fix! It was worth the walk and did not disappoint. This Drink is garnished with a whole meal of its own. A snow crab cluster that was cooked perfectly, their fried chicken cutlets, tater tots, bacon, a huge deli pickle, olives and celery. The drink itself was vodka and clamato juice. With a $20 price tag, I thought it was definitely worth it. The restaurant itself has a fun 50's vibe with the teal and white color scheme and the old school red refrigerators. They were also playing The Jestsons, Tom & Jerry, Mr. Ed and the Three Stooges on their TV. All the staff was very friendly. We also order the Poutine with out the fried egg, it was good, but not true Poutine like they do it in Canada. Next time we visit Nashville, we will definitely visit again for drinks.

Flat Chicken!!!! So, wait, that doesn't immediately thrill you to the core? Yeah, ok. It's not actually really about the chicken at all, it's about the flavorings/toppings/etc applied to the chicken. We've tried many, follow your bliss on that and you can't go too wrong. And tots! Hey Napoleon, give me some of your tots. Skip the gumbo. I've made this mistake twice. Thick pasty consistency with not much flavor, too filling. Skip it. Really. Good casual 12 south ambience - friendly table service. Fun!

Stopped by after classes today. I honestly love love love the atmosphere. Fresh air, the best! I also like the food options. I believe I got the 'popeye' and tator nachos? I think.. But it was so good!! I'll definitely make this a 'must' to go back to.

Since when did this place open?! I guess it's been a year based on the different reviews. It's crazy to see how much this 12 South area as developed over the last 5 years. I remember when Mafiaoza's was like the only thing in the area, now you've got tons of places. Flipside is a new construction building that looks like a house, I guess they wanted it to kind of blend in with the other building in the area, and I like the look of it. They got a little front porch and inside, a large bar and tables and chairs. The front of the building has some windows that open allowing for fresh air and a nice breeze. Speaking of breeze, they also have one of those Big Ass Fans (that's what they're called!) and it helped circulate the air. We got to sit at a table right by the window and were able to people watch. The large window openings make you feel outside, so outside that even some ants were crawling in and a couple on the table. Oh well. The concept of Flipside is pretty much you order a breaded piece of chicken (that's been flattened) and then pick the different set toppings that go on it. The toppings have different names, like mine was called Betsy and it was blue cheese with Buffalo sauce and celery. I don't know why it's called Betsy, but that was the name. You can also get the chicken grilled as opposed to fried, but where is the fun in that?! We luckily stopped in during happy hour where I got Four Roses bourbon (their well bourbon!) and diet for four bucks! The other cocktails they have are around ten bucks, so the happy hour bourbon was a blessing to me. I was with a party of four and it didn't take but about 10 minutes for us to get our good. I guess they've got the chicken and then just put the toppings on. My "Betsy" was good. I love blue cheese and buffalo, so I wasn't surprised that I liked it so much. I ordered the fries over the tots, but I tried both. The fries were good and tots tasted like other tots I've had. I'm not a huge fan of tots though. Overall I liked Flipside. I loved the 4 dollar happy hour drink and I enjoyed the food. Was it the best ever, no, but I liked it. I also like the vibe of the restaurant and the atmosphere. The server we had was also very friendly and very attentive. I'm looking to go back and try some other dishes!

The portions are huge! The tater tots are awesome! And the service is superb. That being said this place might not be for everyone but I would suggest you try it at least one. We found it just by trolling yelp and it looked interesting, that and I'm a big tater tot lover. I'm a sucker for a well made and cooked tot. We started with the tater tot nachos, then I had the meal named after the place "the Flipside"I was not sorry. I thought that the chicken could have been a little more seasoned so it wasn't drowned out by all the toppings but everything was good.

Five stars for ambiance and a lot fewer stars for the food. The flattened and breaded chicken had nothing to redeem it, certainly not the crazy array of toppings that didn't add anything other than junk food kitchen sink combos often with a thick white sauce. Tried the Scooter, the BLT and chicken with the arugula and spinach salad, which was drenched with dressing. Was mistakenly told this was a Richard Blais restaurant but now realize we had mixed this up with his FlipBurger joints. Maybe that's why nothing but chicken (and salmon) are served. Don't think this limited menu will survive but certainly wish the architect and designer much success in keeping the doors open. Friendly service and fair prices in a neat part of town but hope they revamp menu.

If I could give this place 3.5 stars, I would...but it wasn't deserving of the 4stars. I we really wanted to like this place...and maybe under other circumstances, we would. It was a Sunday @1130 and although crowded, there were multiple tables available. Although our waiter was helpful and friendly, the timeliness to receive water, then drinks, then food was a little slow. She got a salad with chicken and the 2 for 1 Bellini. She enjoyed all of it and said cumulatively it was a solid 4.25 out of 5 stars. I had the chicken and waffles with a chocolate milkshake. The waffles were average...there just wasn't anything special about them. The chicken was a solid B/B- . It wasn't outstanding, but wasn't bad. Even the milkshake was a solid B/B- The taste was good, not great, not bad. She felt it was not as thick as she would like...I thought it was fine (no jokes please). Like I said, we wanted to like this place...fun potential vibe... We will give it another shot at some point.

This was my first stop in TN. Service was excellent Amy took good care us and went over the menu like a PRO. Did not know it was her second day of work. I ordered the Pedro and made it a sandwich. The place is clean and with parking in the rear.

This place is not for everyone- I've started this out that way to tell you to pay attention to what they serve. Do you like chicken? Do you like tater-tots? If you said yes two times, then check out this fun, interesting spot in 12th South. It's family friendly, inexpensive, and lacks pretention. Therefore it's something becoming increasingly rare in the area. We just wondered in one night and was pleasantly surprised. They have a full bar and a great little menu of crafted drinks that are wonderful. They have a funny food menu where they will top a breaded chicken breast with a variety of toppings. They have yummy tater tots. Yes, there are some salads and token fish plate, but they won't please everyone. Annnnnd....that's about it. Not a bad thing, but it will hopefully explain the variety of review scores for this restaurant.

Atmosphere: You walk in and you get a bar mashed with a 60's themed diner/kitchen. You'll probably have to find street parking (like most of the 12 South area) because the parking lot behind the building is small. Service: Our waitress was great. We came in for Brunch so she suggested their 2-4-1 Mimosa's. She also advised against us getting an appetizer because our portions would be large. Large they were, right she was, but man was it delicious none the less. Our food came our very fast. Our drinks came out even faster. Food: Poutine - I've been obsessed with poutine since going to New Orleans. You don't see it too often in Nashville so I definitely had to get some. I had the Betsy which was good but still a little underwhelming. I'll definitely have to take a stab at the other chicken selections on the menu. The best part was probably the drinks. Between the various cocktails and mimosa's we were definitely happy with our selections and plan to come back even if its just for drinks. Overall: I'm definitely coming back. Will probably try something different next time.
Excellent place to eat, the food is prepared correctly even the manager stopped by to see if my Brisket was prepared correctly they offer a cafe style to order alot if people don't like that but I do your food is served quicker..they have a bar it's not used very often

Located in a white house off 12th ave. Parking along the side of the road. Went on a Saturday night busy day and got seated pretty fast. No waiting area for a cold day you could hang by the bar which is usually full or outside. The bar had a good selections on beers for cocktails were different but delicious. Had the scooter chicken with tater tots topping and hot wing sauce drizzle over it. It was okay. Not something that I would crave for as a must try again place. Had a great server he did well on checking on us.

The tater tot nachos are amazing! Also, really enjoyed the pesto chicken. Nice service but the bartender shouldn't have to run tables too. Super cute building and decorations.

(2)Brittany F.
(3)Thomas B.
(2)Zeb M.
(3)Maggie M.
(3)Kelsi B.
(5)Blair S.
(3)Lynne P.
Great food!

While roaming 12th street , my friend and I decided to try Flip Side, the decor was adorable and the service was great. The menu was unique and I have to say a pleasant surprise compared to your A-Typical restaurant menu. Pounded breaded chicken with an array of different topping combinations. I ordered the option (can't remember the name) that had sautéed spinach, fresh mozzarella and tomatoes drizzled with balsamic vinaigrette. The plating was beautiful but upon tasting and eventually consuming - the taste was lacking. VERY bland honestly. Maybe it's my inner Italian coming out but the breading should have been seasoned more and the spinach salted and seasoned. If it would have had more flavor, this would have been a A+ but the dish was lacking. We will still be coming back though to explore more topping options

(3)Paul D.
(5)Tara W.
Excellent service, excellent food, excellent atmosphere. This is going to be our new regular go-to place. Loved it!!
(5)Marlene A.
(2)J B.
Order the Phucket.. or anything on the entire menu.. This place is the best thing since smashed chicken, deep fried, and shoved in your face. Chicken is their business, and business is GOOD. 12/10 will eat there until the apocalypse.
(5)Carissa O.
Still 4 stars. Love the Brussel sprouts and you need the tater tot nachos in your life... Just trust me on this. If not the nachos, at least the tots.
(4)Maria S.
(5)J. D.
(4)Jonathan S.
I was dign the feel of this joint. The chicken plates were hard to choose from. But, I managed to pick the Ranchero which was not what I thought when I picked but, let me tell you. It exceeded my thoughts and delivered on taste was point on.. Great food, service and decor = I'll be back...
(4)Num N.
(3)Leah J.
Came here on a saturday night with a party of 5 at 9pm. We had never been there and it looked like a fun place! The restaurant was maybe half full. The hostess sat us and we sat for 15 minutes unnoticed.... so we got up and walked out. Also unnoticed.
(1)Bryan M.
We live in 12th South and so wanted to like this place. With 3 kids, 2 of whom would live on nothing but chicken fingers and fries / Mac & cheese if given the chance, Flipside seemed like it was custom made just for us. Unfortunately, the price way outpaces the quality of the food. I had to wait 15 minutes at the bar to get a draft beer, not because of a crowd, but because they were out of clean beer glasses. Then we get seated and find out there's no "kids" options so we paid $15 for our 6 y/o to eat chicken, that is not at all kid friendly and she didn't eat any of it, and tater tots. Their chicken is all the same, you just get to top it differently. The rest of us didn't dislike our meals, we just felt like we paid about double what they were worth. Overall, if they added a kid friendly option or 2, and included a side withy their expensive piece of chicken we might consider going back. But at $15+ per entrée (not counting a drink of any kind) we'll skip this joint. At that $$$ price point (and considerably less) there are way too many other really good places to eat. I hope they read their reviews, which share this consistent theme, and get it right cause we'd love to have another cool neighborhood hangout to choose from!
(2)June S.
Food was so bland. I felt like I was at Johnny rockets. The atmosphere was nice. Was super excited to have another place to eat in the area but unfortunately the food isn't up to par with the rest of Nashville's booming food scene.
(2)Steve V.
Pounded chicken. Yep. Pounded chicken. The max score you can get is 2 stars for that as your shtick. The decor is nice, increasing the score by one star.
(2)Jeremy G.
(2)Mark S.
(2)Lauren K.
(3)Daniel S.
First off I'll start with the positives. The food was good, the service was good and the retro-theme is executed well in a nice environment. However, the food was not great, the menu is limited and the pricing does not make them very competitive for a similar meal/experience.
(3)Heather R.
(4)Patricia B.
Get the Phuket. Skip the kale soup. It's pretty basic. The Tater Tot Nachos are amazing but big so make sure you have people to share with.
(4)Mary Julia K.
(4)David M.
(2)Matt C.
Unique and awesome. Everything is perfect - from the decor to the music to the staff to the food! Too many choices! Amazingly prepared thin chicken breasts made more than a dozen ways. Must get here.

(4)Evan M.
(5)A.J. W.
Enjoyed my time at flipside. Food was really good. Love the atmosphere. Good for families. Stopped back in late night for a drink, fun times.
(5)Michael F.
The brunch was the best chicken sammich I've ever had in my entire life. Really though.
(5)E. D.
(4)Adrian H.
Very, very bland food, more Midwestern than foodie-Nashville. Tator-tot nachos could be a wonderful signature dish but they fall way short. Chef needs to spice things up: ginger, garlic, salt and pepper.
(2)Jacob T.
(1)Isabel C.
(1)Mark W.
(2)Richard N.
This is our first time here. Awesome ambiance. Friendly staff. And the food is terrific. Drinks are great. A great place to spend a relaxing Saturday afternoon.
(5)Dean R.
(4)Kenny K.

I've never written a Yelp review before, but you belittle a man on his birthday and he gets a little riled up, opens an account, and starts typing. Things I liked: Décor-It's pretty unique. It's kind of nice to walk into a place and not see the same farm-to-table reclaimed barn wood vibe. Waitstaff-Our server was attentive, but not overbearing. Food-not too bad. Now here is where we get to what I didn't like. There was a short wait, so I went up to the bar and ordered a round of drinks-the Jane Jetson and the Georgia Ice Pick. I watched the bartender make our beverages and I'm pretty sure she forgot the step where you put alcohol in it. Walked the drinks out to the porch. Asks friend: I can't taste any alcohol in mine, can you taste any in yours? Not really. I walk the drinks back to the bar and tell someone who seems to be in a management position that I don't think there is any alcohol in the drink--would he mind tasting it to check? Manager tells me that you're not supposed to taste the alcohol that's why the drinks taste so good, refuses to taste the drinks (or have anyone on the staff do so), but replaces the small tastes that we took with vodka. We get seated and I ask the server to taste my drink to see if there is any alcohol in it. He does and says it's pretty weak and that they need to make this right. Manager guy comes back out to tell me that they put blah-blah-blah ounces in every drink and gives me a lecture about how drinks are made there. I ask him to get someone to try it to see if it was made correctly and he declines (Score: People who say drink has no booze-3, People who say drink has booze-0). He then tells me that they already topped the drink off with more vodka and says "where does it end man?" Really? I'm not some 20 something year old frat boy trying to get drunk off on someone else's dime. I've just dropped $10 on a cocktail and I'm trying to get what I paid for. Just about every other place would have either A) remade my cocktail or B) had someone on the staff check to see if my claim is valid. This individual chose to do neither. Personally, I don't believe in the phrase "The customer is always right." There are many times when the customer is wrong (and a jerk). I do believe that you owe it to him/her to check to see if his/her claim is valid--which you refused to do (actually, your server did and he agreed with me). If someone at the bar would have tried the drink and told me I was wrong I would have been completely fine with the situation. Bar Service: I'm sure you make an excellent drink, but mistakes happen. I'll eventually give you the shot to redeem yourself, but I'll stick to beer for now. Management: F+ Everything else: B
(2)Catherine C.
(4)Jeffrey H.
The food is so good! Not to heavy and very filling. Atmosphere is just as good as the food. Could have sat there all day! Trivial pursuit at every table. Fun!
(5)Stephen B.
Nashville finally has the perfect hangover remedy in The Flipside. We came on Day 6 for lunch when it opened at 11am and there was a line forming that packed the restaurant by 11:20am; I think it's still got a draw right now because it's a new option and Nashville loves new!!! I'm going with 3 stars though - will I be back, yes. But if I am back, it will be for a very specific, previously mentioned reason. Parking - painful, but where is it easy in 12 South. Service was great; pretty attentive. And we loved the atmosphere, especially since it was a cool day with the garage door walls up to feel the breeze and experience 12th Ave South live. This definitely had it trending to 4 stars. The core of the menu is this beaten flat chicken breast dredged in parmesan crumbs and pan sautéed in EVOO. Makes for an interesting concept: like the flour tortilla at a taco bar. It's the foundation for 16+ dishes on their menu because it's all in how you dress the chicken... I ordered "The Betsy" which is the Flipside's take on the wing - with Buffalo sauce, bleu cheese and celery. I was expecting more of a blue cheese dressing but NO...real bleu cheese crumbles. It was fantastic but my wife's order topped it. She ordered "The Phuket" which when reading I thought was disgusting: Peanut Butter, Sriracha Sauce, and Thai Slaw. But wow ... this is a fantastic bite; it really worked well together and reminded me of the peanut sauce on the Thai Chicken salad at Houston's (showing my age for a Nashvillian). I will definitely be ordering that when I'm back. The sides and the starter we ordered are very basic, and well...pretty lame. The mac-and-cheese showed up lukewarm/cold and you know it's bad when my three-year old daughter wouldn't touch it. We ordered the Cheese Tots & Fries as well. They were very basic, out-of-the-Sysco bag - not anything worth noting here. The milkshakes were tasty but it's pretty hard to screw that up, especially with Haagen-dasz as your base (I'm guessing here - happened to overhear one of the servers saying that's what they used to another table). The cocktails definitely helped pull The Flipside up to solid 3/3.5 stars. "The fix" is the Flipside's take on the Bloody Mary and I will definitely be back for it. This cocktail is my new "morning after" drink. Hair of the dog to go with a menu that in many ways can take you away from the hangover blues. This was my first time to have Clamato as the mixer instead of Zip Zap or some other Bloody Mary Mix and it makes a surprisingly good difference for this palate. On the other cocktails it's clear the bartender or mixologist has a BIG bias towards sweet. The Bellini was pretty good, probably could've used a touch more prosecco and against the peach schnapps. The Jane Jetson was WAYYYY too sweet. Probably should switch the tonic for club soda or laid off the simple syrup. The Gingerita was actually pretty tasty - if I had started with that instead of finishing with it I think it's a great summer drink in the afternoon when they have the walls up. You should definitely give The Flipside a try and decide whether or not it's a place for you. We'll definitely be back to try the Poutine and the Jambalaya and some more takes on the "Jack's Best Chicken".
(3)Katie D.
(4)jamie w.

(4)Josh G.
(3)Nedda P.
(2)Brandon W.

(3)Jennifer T.
Wonderful ambience. Great bar and drinks. Food was disappointing. Strange menu. Not clear what the appeal of flat breaded chicken with every dish is??! We were there for lunch/brunch. Friendly but slow service.
(3)Ying M.
(3)Wayne H.

(4)Bob S.
It ok but nothing special. It all about pounding out a chicken breast and coating it and sauté it in some olive oil. I had the parm. The sauce was just average and so was the cheese. It was very lonely on my plate for 11 or 12 dollars. The sandwich we had the bread is too much and too dry. We also had the tot nacho for 9 dollars and none of the ingredients provided any punch to the dish. The milk shake is not the thick eat it with the spoon shake. You could drink it easily with a straw. A lot of options on this street!! Maybe I will try it again someday.
(3)Lynne K.

If the FlipSide doesn't make a radical change pretty quickly, I suspect they won't survive.

loved this place. Great food and great service. I've been back twice and have taken my whole office.

(3)Jon C.
Such an interesting take on chicken. The space has got cool vibes with vintage decor thats throwback to the 50/60's. Also they have a well stocked bar.
(4)Blake C.
(5)Kimberly B.
I ordered the gumbo...and it was just okay. Too hipster and overpriced for my taste.
(2)Justin H.

(4)Abby H.
Great drinks and fun atmosphere! Brunch is a must have - chicken and waffles and 2 for 1 mimosas and bloody marys. Tots all day- especially love the breakfast tots!
(5)Jeremy S.
This is my second visit to flipside. This was much better than the first time. The service was good and the server was friendly. 2 stars because of the food. I think the chicken sucks. It's dry, tiny, and tasteless. It tastes microwaved. VERY limited menu.
(2)Sean O.
(1)marissa l.
(4)Rudolf H.
Very cool spot. Cheap beer, awesome tater tots appetizers and an extensive menu of chicken any way you could imagine. I had the flipside, chicken with jambalaya and a fried egg. It was delicious, and filling, and very modestly priced.
(5)Matt M.
(5)Rick S.
In Nashville visiting my daughter and she took us here. The food was good. An interesting take on chicken. I had the curveball and my wife had the greenway, both good dishes. The setting is open and airy. Last nite was in the 70's so with the doors open it was great. I recommend it.
(3)Liz W.
Food was gross. I was so excited to get the tater tots and I could finish the plate. Ambient was cool as was the desserts.
(2)Becky H.
Loved the food!! Enjoyed it. Seating was not super comfy and parking is not good. The service was great though and there is a lot to choose from
(4)Jodi S.
(5)Kelly B.
(5)Bob G.
Fun!
(4)Juliet Q.

(4)John T.
(4)Nina K.

(3)Rick C.
This was my first stop in TN. Service was excellent Amy took good care us and went over the menu like a PRO. Did not know it was her second day of work. I ordered the Pedro and made it a sandwich. The place is clean and with parking in the rear.
(5)Anthony S.
(4)Josefin F.
Really great place. All chicken!!!! Looks a little to modern on the outside but is beautiful on the inside. Great food!!
(5)Jonathan B.

We were lucky enough to drop by The Flipside today during their soft opening. This place is going to be a terrific addition to the neighborhood! The decor is retro and clean, with a definite Fifties vibe and lots of natural light. It is the kind of place that feels very family-friendly in the early evening, but the full bar and cocktail menu will also make it attractive to grown-ups after dark. The menu is organized around one specialty dish done many different ways; they take a chicken breast, pound it flat, season it, and sauté it. Then they offer it with over a dozen different collections of toppings, each with a catchy name. My husband had the one with Edley's barbecue sauce, which was really amazing; I kept it traditional with the "parm" topped with marinara and mozzarella. In both dishes the chicken stayed both flavorful and tender enough to cut with a fork. We also shared a bowl of jambalaya, which had a nice consistency and just the right amount of spicy heat. The management and staff members were friendly and attentive, and they were apologetic that a few items (such as the aforementioned cocktails) were not yet available on our visit. No problem from my perspective; it just gives us an excuse to go back soon, and you should, too.
(5)Jesse Q.
Excellent place to eat, the food is prepared correctly even the manager stopped by to see if my Brisket was prepared correctly they offer a cafe style to order alot if people don't like that but I do your food is served quicker..they have a bar it's not used very often
(5)Diana O.
(4)Jenn S.
I'm a fan. Had the Phuket at lunch and it was delicious. The atmosphere is amazing. Job well done, flipside!
(5)Rachel P.
The tater tot nachos are amazing! Also, really enjoyed the pesto chicken. Nice service but the bartender shouldn't have to run tables too. Super cute building and decorations.
