High Blood Pressure at Applebee's

Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure

Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. This year I finally did the Santa Pub Crawl and when I saw that it was going to officially start at the Beer Sellar I was pumped. It immediately brought back memories of my college years when I would come home for the summer and we would start at the Sellar and then hit up the Underground to dance to retro tunes all night. AAAAH THOSE WERE THE DAYS. Who am I kidding? I'd still do that shit today if the Underground was still down the street. Ha! So you go down the stairs and then you are in the Sellar. Bar on the left hand side, tables in front of it, and some pool tables and more tables as you go on back. It is deceptively bigger than you think when you first walk in. The bonus of it being downstairs is that you can watch people arrive and see them before they see you which is fun when watching crazily dressed Santas show up! On Santa Rampage night the service was on point. As long as you weren't a douche, were ready to pay, and tipped your bartender they were going to get to you ASAP. Plus I am sure they staffed up to ensure quick service. I cannot vouch for usual evenings though. They have beer, they have liquor, they allow smoking, it is divey and a little dirty. It is MY KIND OF PLACE. Always has been, suppose it always will be. I don't get downtown that much any more but I need to put this back on the roster as it is a little hidden, mostly locals, somewhat dirty, dive. DEFINITELY go here to kick back and relax in a non-honky tonk environment.

If the owner wants to know why only 2 stars they ought to contact me. Something is amiss in this music city honkey tonk.

Was here on 9/12/15 while attending Live On The Green. My expectations for this place were appropriate and they were largely met. It's a dive bar so it is scored on the dive bar scale (DBS). Didn't have my favourite IPAs but they had Lagunitas IPA which will do just fine. They do have a decent selection of beers, the staff was friendly, the place was not sparkling clean, the toilets were fine. Figure that's good enough for four stars on the DBS.

Little dive bar just off Broadway... Locals hang out and great beer selection, friendly bartenders, pool tables, darts and fooseball table... A hidden gem among the chaos!!!!

I can't believe I've lived downtown for sooo many years without setting foot at the Beer Sellar. First off- Sundays and Thursdays are 2 for 1 on all drafts $5 and under (no high-grav), which is by far an awesome deal since they offer really tasty craft beers, local and beyond. I went in this Sunday to pre-game before the Broncos/Pats game #gobroncos with plans of walking back home to catch the game with a six-pack waiting patiently in the fridge. After starting on my second brew, a crowd formed upon the once empty bar and soon enough i was well into my third cheering on my team with the rest of them. I will definitely go back and I won't let it take me so long either. The ambiance is great- dim, underground feel with plenty of pool tables and tvs to keep you entertained. Smoking is allowed, but they keep the fans on to alleviate any discomfort of second hand smoke. Hey, after a few beers, you won't even notice it. It's off the beaten path, but don't let that discourage you; some of the best places usually are.

Great beer on tap. Great pub food hidden in downtown Nashville.

  • Christi R.

A great place to have a drink & relax after work. A little on the divey-side so bar-snobs please stay away. They have a great tap selection, 2 dart boards, 2 pool tables & a Foosball table to keep you occupied. The staff is awesome. Take care of them & they will take care of you.

  • Katee G.

Went during a weekday around 6pm. We were able to play pool for a $1, which was much more reasonable than some other places we looked at. Had a very large selection of craft beer. Tangerine wheat was especially good. Definitely a hidden gem in Nashville!

  • Jennifer P.

Why was this place empty is what I'd like to know! We came with some friends on a Thursday after Nashville Dancin' and I was so shocked to see the place almost desserted. Repeat after me... 2-4-1 all night long on all $5 beers. Um, hello? No brainer. Great beer selection, great prices, great staff. I really enjoyed this place. Now get your tush in gear and go have a beer... or four.

    (4)
  • James T.

This is always a great place to stop and have a wonderful craft beer on tap. It is great to be able to talk good beer with other aficionados. The jukebox is also great. You can play music that you don't typically find downtown.

  • Ryo O.

After being in Nashville a couple weeks, I was looking for a dive bar that's not a honky tonk on Broadway. This place is a perfect after work watering hole if you happen to be staying downtown and don't want to deal with the crowded tourist spots. You can always find a pool table, and the grub ain't bad either.

    (4)
  • Bob R.

Not what it used to be. Black and Tan. Simple right? You want Guinness with yuengling? Ummm nope. Harp? No, no harp. Bass? No, no bass. Hmmm. Cold beers aren't as cold as they should be. Good juke box plays. Service is slow. Is what it is

    (2)
  • Dave M.

Located far enough from the tourist riff-raff is Beer Sellar, which just happens to be a bar in a cellar. Very misleading title, I know. There's not much to say about this place, except that they have probably the largest beer selection that I've ever seen. I only stayed for one beer, but I really liked the atmosphere in there. It had the vibe of a bar that would have a ton of regulars that the bartenders all knew. It's spacious, has both pool tables and a jukebox, and also plays the games on TVs behind the bar. Definitely a bar to check out if you're looking for a nice and laid back spot to drink.

    (3)
  • Michael V.

Tons of beer options, a good jukebox, friendly staff who are knowledge. My favorite bar when we visit Nashville! And while there are often people smoking cigars, I've never found the place to be smokey. I highly recommend it!

    (5)
  • Jenna H.

Awesome hidden gem in Nashville. A few blocks off of the main strip, but miles away in terms of speed. A laid back, smokey bar with great staff and tons of drink options on tap. Solid juke box, pool tables and a foosball table give lots of entertainment options for everyone. It rarely feels crowded or smokey, even if there are a lot of people there smoking. Love this bar!

    (5)
  • Susan B.

I come in this bar at least three times a week if not five. I usually enjoy the atmosphere and the service it's usually spot on. They do a variety of activities including two for one drinks twice a week. Trivia..Texas hold em. I recently moved to Nashville and live downtown. Trying to avoid the crowds..I found"my spot". But tonight I'm utterly appalled at the service. Two males behind the bar... more occupied with the female patrons than service. I'm disappointed and will seek a new refuge.#sadface

  • Amy S.

They have a great selection of beers with plenty of craft beers. Cozy atmosphere with pool tables and T.V.'s to keep you entertained.

  • Rachel M.

Five stars for finally giving me a reason to go all the way downtown. I usually avoid anywhere around 2nd Ave like a room full of 3-year-olds, but this place is actually worth the agony. They serve so many different beers, and I dare say that the selection is better than Flying Saucer's. This place would be a good place to grab some drinks and play pool after a concert or a Preds or Titans game. They serve food, too, but we didn't have any because we had just eaten somewhere else. I would not make a special trip downtown and pay for parking just to get a couple of drinks and go home or something, but any time we're downtown for a concert, we'll be here afterward.

Solid beer selection and a good choice for a bar that isn't crawling with tourists and craziness

I just moved to Nashville recently and enjoy coming to the Beer Sellar, but tonight just killed it for me. The bartender Kat, is the WORST bartender I have ever encountered. She was being snippy with everyone, told a girl to audibly "shoosh", then "apologized" with sarcasm tattooed on her forehead and then continued to berate a customer in front of myself and friends, making accusations, saying she "didn't give a shit" what we had to say" because she didn't have time to deal with all of her responsibilites. I then watched this same customer calmly ask for the store managers information such as name and phone number... the number was then Called and it was actually the phone behind the bar that rung. So, she gave out fraudulent information to someone who had a legit concern about her job. This bartender is the definition of unprofessional, and no matter how busy you get at a bar as the only bartender you do not treat customers as something less than human beings. This visit will not sour my feelings about the bar. I love the Beer Sellar and will continue to come back, but I just pray that I never have to accept service from Kat ever again.

Great bar food, great staff, and nice selection of beers. I primarily went here because they were the only place I've found so far thst serves my favorite craft beer. Last time I went there was a new girl that was unfamiliar with my craft beer and didn't know that there was a particular way to pour it, but I showed her how to properly do it (for the next time) and she didn't charge me for the first beer. She was a little inexperienced compared to the girl that is usually there, but she was VERY nice and friendly and gave us exceptional service. They have a jukebox, pool tables, TVs, and a very cool atmosphere. It is literally a cellar. I know where I'm going if a tornado hits. ;)

The best bar in downtown Nashville! A great diversion from the commercialized and obnoxious bars on 2nd Ave. Ambience is chill and they have fantastic beers on tap! Make sure you try any of the Yazoo beers. Definitely going to make this place my Nashville hangout for years to come!

A smoky dive bar just a few blocks off Broadway, down near the river. A bit of a seedy neighborhood but we had no problem walking there. Pool, Foosball, Darts, Golden Tee, and great tunes flowing out of the sound system. Good beer cheap with friendly bartenders.

    (4)
  • Jen B.

Tucked away on the other side of all of the loud bars and music venues on Broadway, this club, located in a basement, is a great spot to have a cold beer and actually be able to talk with friends. They have a great selection of beer served up in ice cold glasses. There is a GREAT jukebox selection, pool tables and some REALLY nice folks behind the bar. (Thanks for the band-aid Mike!!) If I lived here, I would be a regular at this spot.

    (4)
  • Rebecca G.

Great beer selection. Unbelievably cheap. Good tunes. Love the juke box and pool tables.

    (5)
  • Joe K.

Divey and just perfect. There is a lot of taps serving more than just a few local craft options and macro lagers. Surrounding the bar area is multiple tv's, pool tables and darts. Thankfully there is something other than country music playing here constantly, which adds an extra star in my opinion. There is roughly 40+ taps ranging from large name microbrews and local TN brewers(none from Maryland when I visited). I am unsure how the food / service is here but I wouldn't be turned away from trying some since my customer service was warm inviting and they were more than knowledgeable about their beer's on tap. 5 stars - one of my favorite spots I visited and is seconds from Broadway Street!

    (5)
  • Kat C.

Not for tourists! I wanted to like this bar, looked like a nice quiet hangout, loads of beer options, pool tables, BUT a very rude, ignorant bartender. If you're a tourist, just don't bother. I went in with my 60 odd year old father and they wouldn't serve him as he only had a UK driving licence. They quoted ABC laws, there is no mandatory carding in bars in TN, only for sales off the premises, if it's an internal policy fine, just don't quote the law! In over 2 years here with just a UK License before I got a local one I was never refused anywhere and I'm 30 not 60

Awesome underground beer cave of a bar. Tradition for our crew to start out our Nashville trips here. Huge draught selection, and decent prices.

Homer Simpson : "....mmmmm beeeeeeer" I was here on business and was drawn to the neon Beer Sellar sign like a bug to a street lamp. "Huh?? BEER......ok I get that part. The true definition of SELLAR is: The sella turcica (literally Turkish Chair) is a saddle-shaped depression in the sphenoid bone of the human skull and of the skulls of other Hominidae including chimpanzees, orangutans, and gorillas". Beer and monkeys?? Hell, theres nothing more entertaining than Chimps on roller skates.....suddenly visions of roller skating monkeys bringing me frothy mugs of Spaten Oktoberfest came to mind. Ok....I realize now that was a stretch but I don't expect you to understand how my mind works. ......anyway, after a long Forrest Gump pause I decided to check the place out........ This is pretty much a local hang out from what I saw and the number of taps gave me anxiety like a kid in a Jelly Belly store. Sweet. Theres plenty of space at the bar and service was standard. I was orginally on my way to dinner and well.....lets just say that didnt pan out. Neither did the conference I was supposed to attend the next morning. Sweet. Bonus: Get here at around happy hour and the hotties from the Hooters next door roll in after shift change (they are not allowed to drink at their restaurant off duty) and improve the scenery. Bottom line: Don't get on a plane with a hangover. The Federal Air Marshalls will not be impressed.

  • John P.

I wanted to like this place. Beeradvocate recommend it as a must go to get a craft beer in downtown Nashville. I wasn't too impressed with the line up on tap and bottles. I love dives but nothing jumped out to me about this dive that would make me want to come back. I did like how it was off of broadway so there is a little less foot traffic. Smoking is allowed and there is no open air. Kind of kills it for me being from a city where no one can smoke in bars. I had one beer and rolled out.

    (3)
  • Bobby B.

This is the place most responsible for my beer gut when I lived there. Now, I have other places to blame. Great selection and the staff was great back in the day. They still give out tastes of the beers on tap?

    (4)
  • Jacob J.

Hole in the wall? Naw. Well some of their customers look the part, but not a hole in the wall bar. This area looks to be a popular tourist site, I mean Coyote Ugly is around the corner. The bar and it's clean smell scream tourist spot. They offer more than fifty beers on tap, I think, I can't remember what the sign said and after that beer sampler for $14 bucks, the alcohol is messing with my memory. Many good IPA's and the local brew Yazoo the one named after a bird, tasty with a light kick. Stopping in for different brews with others that enjoy beer equals great times. The bartenders are meh, waiting for that first beer was so tedious.. the second beer, same wait. Don't get it, it's not like it was busy. Look for the sign, there are no windows. A front door takes you down a few brick steps into a dungeoun bar setting. You feel like summers are kept cool because of the set-up but the air is stale since smoking hasn't yet been outlawed here.

    (3)
  • Tabitha S.

Was not impressed. I have been here once and probably will not go back. The beer was good and cold but the whole feel of the place was just bleh! Maybe we just hit it at the wrong time but I was not feelin it at all.

    (2)
  • Maegan P.

We have a good ol' time here! A honky-tonk it is not. Just a smoky bar with lots of beers and half-decent eats. Been to trivia here a couple of times on Wednesday nights and we always have a great time. One night, the the bartender wasn't super knowledgeable about the drafts (couldn't tell a lager from a wheat beer) which is kind of important at a bar called the Beer Seller but it happens. Parking is usually decent if there's not anything going on downtown b/c you can park off of Gay street for free. A great place to hideaway from the rest of the downtown madness.

  • Paul K.

I don't know how this bar has been in place this long and not got the serving aspect sped up some. Wait times are terrible when there're ~30 people in the place (and that is going to the bar to get your drinks, I have not seen a wait person in years). The place reeks of the cheapest possible smokes, it's starting to get that acidic stench that The Villager had that's halfway between rank armpit sweat and burning car battery. Going to skip the bathroom part... wear boots, all I am saying. The place is a dive with hipster pricing, service cannot keep up with the seating it has, nor can it handle any sort of influx crowds. If it's crowded, go next door. Service is equally slow/overworked/whatever but at least you can breathe. It's not my cup of tea, but it's not a horrible place. And when it's not crowded it can be almost pleasant, but I only seem to be there when it gets overwhelmed by (insert small event here) which seems to be every night or two in Nashville. I dig it for what it is, but there are much better locations within a few minutes walk.

  • Timothy B.

Beer Sellar is a fantastic dive bar with more beer on tap than almost any other bar in Nashville. In a city filled with wannabe country stars playing mediocre cliche cover songs in almost every honkey tonk around; Beer Sellar offers a refreshing respite from listening to "Freebird" 15 times in a two hour time frame. The first time I stepped into Beer Sellar it reminded me a lot of the TV show "Cheers."

    (5)
  • Matt B.

Great place to try a lot of different beers. The food was not bad either. The bartender very knowledgeable about all the beers too.

    (4)
  • Francine S.

Love to stop by this place every time we visit Nashville. Count on a few new beers to try and jukebox tunes usually slow until about 11pm then the crowd picks up on weekends whenever weve stopped in

    (4)
  • David G.

Beer Sellar is my jam, and yes, it is still open. You can not find a better bar to get away from the crowded honky tonks while downtown. I would encourage anyone - locals or tourists - to at least swing by for one drink here. The music is good, it's always busy but not uncomfortably slammed. All good nights downtown include (and often begin with) a trip to the Beer Sellar.

    (4)
  • Chris S.

This is a great bar to become a local at - suggesting, though, you don't mind being a local at a bar and the connotation of such a label. Strong beer selection obviously and the staff know what they're talking about (and one of the bartenders looks like A Viking). This is a great alternative to second street and Broadway if you're looking to have some drinks and converse with friends. If you're looking for food, you better like hot dogs cause that's all they really have. And a secret elevator to Hooters. And a Canadian guy who always sits at the end of the bar. Tell Blonde Paula Chris says hi if you go.

We were in Nashville to meet some friends and I saw the sign as we were walking and thought this might be a good place to have everyone meet at. What a mistake! The female bartender seemed aloof and acted as I was bothering her when I asked for a minute to look at all the beer taps that were in front of me. My gf and I settled on drinks and took them over to a table. I noticed that there was an internet access juke box on the wall and proceeded to log in some music. I put about 7 or 8 songs on and we were drinking the beer and waiting for our friends when the bartender went over to the juke box and wiped out the remaining 2 or 3 songs that were on there and replaced it with other music. I walked up to her and asked her if she had just done that? She said yes. No, "I'm sorry" or anything like that. Her only response was to ask if I wanted my money back? I said yes, got it, texted the friends, and changed locations. The next time I am in Nashville I will not be spending money at this establishment. The bar missed out on over $100 of alcohol sales from the 8 of us. My friends and I will relate this adventure to our friends who live there or will be visiting Nashville.

  • Steve C.

A friend had mentioned that this place had a really good beer selection. We went after dinner one night and were disappointed that the selection was really pretty average. But what was worse, the bartender was horrible. She was flirting with some douchebags down from us, and literally walked by at least 4 times while I was looking right at her. My girlfriend had time to go to the restroom and come back even! What's worse, the rude bartender had ugly hair extensions and really awful fake nails, according to my girlfriend. We never got served and just left. So, beer sellar loses all respect from us. Shame on you!

Cellar + Seller = Sellar. Beer. Sellar. Oh what's in a name? 99 beers, that's what! I love that this place is in the middle of downtown, because now when my friends force me downtown for honky tonkin', I can find refuge in here by the end of the night! This "hole-in-the-wall" type of establishment is exactly what I look for in a dive bar. Plenty of beers on tap, jukebox, pool tables, friendly/attentive bartenders, and your basic run-of-the mill pub fare. Plus, Hooters is just next door in case you want a slightly more legit menu (I said slightly). If you're a beer lover, and you're stuck next to the Wrangler-wearin', boot struttin', Miller Lite chuggin' honky tonkers, just take a deep breath, close your eyes, and walk north! You'll hit Beer Sellar, and you'll be glad you did.

  • Patten F.

It's in the name. They serve Beer. It's in a "Sellar" (which I guess is how you would spell "cellar" if you had never seen the word). You pass under this low entrance into what should, for all intents and purposes, be a dive bar. There's a jukebox, pool tables, TVs. The place wants to be a dive bar. It wants to be a dive bar so badly...unfortunately, it's sitting on prime downtown real estate. Also, they own the Hooters upstairs...so...yeah. Supposedly they have food, but I have never been with anyone who has had food, so I'll leave that review for someone else. What I have had is quick service at decent prices - especially for downtown. I've never spent more than $15 in there...and I've never had a bad experience. There is a HUGE beer selection. I mean HUGE. Chances are, if it's a beer that is able to be distributed in the state of Tennessee, they'll either have it or they'll have it for you the next time you come in. The major, major, major draw for locals should be this, however...it's not a tourist hotspot. It's not a dive bar. It's just a local bar that happens to be underground. You're not going to run into Bob and Suzy from Minnetonka with their brand new cowboy hats, belt buckles and cowboy boots...and that's always a good thing. I can only think of two downsides. First, any time you go in there, you're going to smell like you've been inside a barbecue pit in a bowling alley. Even if no one in the bar is smoking, the residual smell of smoke is so strong that it will seep into the fiber of your being. And even if the fiber of your being has never even looked at a cigarette, that fiber will have a nicotine craving. What I'm trying to say is, the place is kinda smoky. The other downside, which is really a downside to all downtown establishments, is that you're going to pay an arm and a leg to park anywhere around there. If you park in a garage, it's going to run you about $10. If you want to park on a surface lot, it will run you around $12.

Great beer selection and the prices are very reasonable! Bartender was very friendly and accomodating! Loved the place!

If you are forced downtown and are looking to escape all of the honky tonk bars, Beer Sellar is that place. If you advertise 99 different beers, you don't have to twist my arm to get me to go. They have a really great selection of beer. If you are not a fan of beer, you could probably find a beer at the sellar that you like. Service was quick, but the counter was pretty sticky from spilled drinks. The biggest complaint that I have is the ashtray smell. Being down in a basement probably does not help with this smell either. I think I have actually found a bar I like in downtown Nashville. Woohoo!

Great hole in the wall bar. There was a great selection of beers & the place seemed very comfortable.

Went here for a Saints vs Titans game this past weekend. Great place to get away from the tourist trap and country music throughout the downtown area. Many brews on tap and a few liquor choices. Darts, pool tables and good jukebox. The staff was pretty cool and quick on the serving of the booze!!

Fled into this bar tonight to grab some food and drinks before the hockey game. I definitely enjoyed walking down into the "cellar" thoroughly. It is a small touch but definitely makes you feel like you are going to a dive bar. Which is the perfect description for this place. The beer selection is excellent with over 50 beers on tap and 15 in bottles (yes I read that on the menu). I was bummed that there wasn't a bigger food selection. I am not sure they have a full kitchen, but my boyfriend and I did split the Embargo sandwich. Maybe it is because I have been watching way too much Dexter but I was craving a cuban sandwich and this one was amazing. However, we only got 5 onion rings with it. Not worth the extra $1.25 we paid. So the reason for only 3 stars? Not a huge food selection, and stingy on the onion rings. But was pleasantly surprised. The service was okay. Hard to really tell because it was early and there were only about 10 people total in the entire bar.

Beer lovers of Nashville, Unite! This is THE beer bar for anyone who hates tourist traps and loves beer. 50 taps - all of them GREAT. Except for the yuengling which one guy ordered but his wife impressed me by asking for IPAs. Bartenders know their sh*t. No tourists. Smoking allowed (not that I approve of that, but it makes it exotic). LOVE this place! I am sure the food is just stomach liner, but the beers and authenticity of the place are AWESOME. So glad I escaped the Wild Horse to come here!

Very low key place. Outside you would not think this was even a bar. Great beer selection over 50 drafts. Also came here on a Sunday and had 2 for 1 drafts

Definitely an oasis in touristy downtown, Beer Sellar is a proper bar with a punny name. I like to start here with a beer I can taste before joining friends (usually with visitors to town) in the usual Bud/Miller Am-urican Beer dominated bars. Or detox from the country music and tourists with cheap pink cowboy hats afterwards. Just a juke box, though it looks like they could/may have live music at times. Although, I think you should have to pass a test before you're allowed to choose songs from said jukebox; one time we were down there and these girls were filling the playlist with TERRIBLE pop from the late 90's. We left after the 2nd Creed song. Service is never stellar, but eh. It's a bar in a cellar.

I'd suggest this to anyone on Broadway or 2nd. 99 beers on tap, are you kidding me?! AWESOME! Friendly and fun, even the food there was good and that's not the indistinguishable drunk hunger in me talking.

Awesome selection of beer. You can get your name on the wall if you try them all. Diverse crowd, dive environment, cool fun place to get off the main strip

the only reason this got any freaken kind of stars is cause the guy on the mic was jammin' and their beer selection was pretty cool other than that the server should be punched in the ovaries!!! so my best friends a little dark, doesn't mean u can walk by us a million times without acknowledging us!! and when she finally comes around, she ever so naturally looked at us and while we were in mid sentence, she turn around and ignore us again.....then walk a few more dozen times around the bar helping everyone else before coming to take our order (with attitude to boot!!)...for get trying to get advice out of her, id have better luck trying to get hitler to love jews!!!!!!....she's lucky i left her tip!!! (its not the fault of her fatherless children to not have food on the table) needless to say we drove all up and down tenn. and ga. and this was the only place that had a racial issue with us.....

What a perfect little spot to get away from the throng's of miniskirts and howling twenty somethings. they really do have 90 beers available... and the bartenders are swell! i wish i would have bought a t-shirt though. sorry about breaking your dart tips. : (

This place looks like a hipster spot from the outside, tucked into a tourist neighborhood. Inside, it looks and smells like a dive. Another review mentions a clean smell? Dude, it reeks of cigarette smoke. Not that i have a problem with that, but clean is not on the radar in this place. The beer selection will bring you back around to thinking, hey maybe this is a hipster spot afterall, but then you'll see the patrons and forget it once and for all. I like this place a lot. It's cozy and unpretentious and divey with an exceptional beer list. Goodtimes.

Here is my beer sellar story. I worked downtown when the big tornado hit in 98 so I lived it first hand. Being that I was in a very large glass encased building which swayed but did not give, all in all, it was kind of cool to experience my smallness without fear of dying and theres nothing like and F-3 tornado to put you in your place. That being said, I kind of figured I was satisfied with that being a once in a life time experience and made a pact to always head to the beer sellar (there is beer and it's below ground - obviously a no brainer)if ever there is a tornado warning in downtown Nashville again. Surprisingly enough, this pact has afforded me the opportunity to visit on several occasions over the years. The main draw is that they offer one of the best tap selections of beer in town. It's very laid back and a welcome break from the touristy stuff you find downtown. It's great for groups. If you live or work downtown which is a growing number or you are visiting and want something a little more about the beer and less about the honky tonk, then this is my recommendation.

This is 2nd Avenue's answer for beer selection. They offer more varieties on draft than any other establishment in the area (but not as many as Flying Saucer). This is more of a dive-y type bar than others around and is mostly populated by preppy looking college aged patrons. The bar is actually located in the basement of the building it is in, hence the name. It's on the very edge of the 2nd Avenue strip, so its a little quieter than a lot of its neighbors, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't get insanely packed. If you can go there during a quieter time, they have fooseball tables you can play as well as various bar type video games. It looks like a whole and the people can get pretty obnoxious at times. I've found that they have probably the worst staff at any bar I've been to in Nashville. The waitresses/bartenders tend to be pretty bitchy and unhelpful. I guess if I had to put up with drunk frat boys all the time I'd be that way too, but you get the impression that they hate everyone. They serve food here, but I've never tried it and don't actually know anyone who goes there that has. But it's nice to know if you happen to get hungry while you're there. Their happy hour is from 2-7 during the week and they have specials that vary daily. Sundays would be the best day to go as they have 2 for 1s and half price on all pitchers, but it gets pretty packed.

My fiance and I went here for happy hour for a casual night out. Obviously, the beer selection is awesome. The bartender helped us pick what we might want to have next and offered us a taste of the ones we were curious about. On this night, there was a live musician, which was fun, but we didn't get to check out the juke box. On the downside, this is a smoking bar, and being in a basement, there is very little circulation (those tires on the fans are NOT doing anything useful). it smells bad. Also, there was a big bug on the bar at one point. It's kinda grody. This didn't get in the way of having a good time, though.

Great bar downtown. Huge selection of bars, not as many as Flying Saucer, but cooler atmosphere. And hey, once you get to 99 beers, who's counting???

    (4)
  • Caitlin D.

This bar has SOOOO many kinds of beer on tap. Anything you crave, you can find it there. It's kinda dingy in there honestly, smoky and dark (it's beneath street level). However, that can be just what you're looking for sometimes! This is a laid back joint, good for a group getting together to put back a few beers and relax. It's right by the river and close to Broadway, so I would suggest starting here in the earlier evening before heading out to catch some bands at other venues.

The Beer Sellar is one of the best hole-in-the wall bars if not the best in Nashville. It's next door to Hooter's downtown and they have one of the best beer selections in town not to mention the beer is always cold. If you're looking for a place to grab a beer after a Titans game or on a Sunday night then the Beer Sellar is the place for you.

Fried Mac and Cheese. Yes - thats more than enough for me to give it the high rating. Such a yummm guilty pleasure. I am going to try to look for this exotic dish in san francisco (where I live).. We tried a few local beers and they were great as well. Went there on the thanksgiving night - so while it was fairly busy, I am sure it was no where close to how it gets when they have jazz jam sessions ..since i missed all that, i guess a star is missing from my rating as well.

A great, hole-in-the-wall find in Nashville. A local find. On one of the side streets off the main strip, this is a nice mellow, bar that has a foosball table, darts, and plays great music. Their brews are very good (I particularly liked the hefeweizen; their pale ale is a little on the boring side).

    (4)
  • Nate C.

one of the great dive bars in downtown. they have a huge selection of beer on tap. it reminds me of the yardhouse, but it has more character. this place doesn't have the best decor, but that's what makes this place so awesome.

    (3)
  • Robert K.

The Beer Sellar is a great joint right off of the main strip on Church Street. I think they have like 99 beers on tap or something. It has a dive bar type atmosphere that lends itself to hardcore college style drinking, which can be great! One noteworthy beer that they have on tap is Peroni. I was stoked to find this because I had never had Peroni on tap and quite frankly, it is one of my favorite types of beers. The bar is located underground, which I love because it means anything can happen!

  • John G.

I have only been here one time, and it was a Saturday afternoon. They didn't exactly have their stuff together at the time as far as getting food out to us, remembering what tab we were on, etc, but it still was a fantastic little dive. Windows? You don't need windows when you are underground. Yeah, I am a sucker for any bar that is actually below ground level. It is slightly off the touristy track that is Broadway, so I really recommend coming in here to shed some of the honky tonk vibe that is present nearby.

  • Dennis V.

i wouldve given it 4 stars if it wasnt for the blonde bartender, who would come up to us, then walk away just as we were about to speak. she ended up attending other people who came in after us. i dont know, maybe it was because she could tell we were from out of town... anyway, cool live music and yazoo is an awesome beer

    (2)
  • Peter M.

a true dive right downtown, how about that! you're underground, excellent juke box, lots of beers on tap.

    (3)
  • Tom S.

A smoky dive bar just a few blocks off Broadway, down near the river. A bit of a seedy neighborhood but we had no problem walking there. Pool, Foosball, Darts, Golden Tee, and great tunes flowing out of the sound system. Good beer cheap with friendly bartenders.

    (4)
  • Brad K.

Tons of beer options, a good jukebox, friendly staff who are knowledge. My favorite bar when we visit Nashville! And while there are often people smoking cigars, I've never found the place to be smokey. I highly recommend it!

Great beer selection. Unbelievably cheap. Good tunes. Love the juke box and pool tables.

    (5)

They have a great selection of beers with plenty of craft beers. Cozy atmosphere with pool tables and T.V.'s to keep you entertained.

I know where I'm going if a tornado hits. ;)

A great place to have a drink & relax after work. A little on the divey-side so bar-snobs please stay away. They have a great tap selection, 2 dart boards, 2 pool tables & a Foosball table to keep you occupied. The staff is awesome. Take care of them & they will take care of you.

Now get your tush in gear and go have a beer... or four.

This is always a great place to stop and have a wonderful craft beer on tap. It is great to be able to talk good beer with other aficionados. The jukebox is also great. You can play music that you don't typically find downtown.

Not what it used to be. Black and Tan. Simple right? You want Guinness with yuengling? Ummm nope. Harp? No, no harp. Bass? No, no bass. Hmmm. Cold beers aren't as cold as they should be. Good juke box plays. Service is slow. Is what it is

Was not impressed. I have been here once and probably will not go back. The beer was good and cold but the whole feel of the place was just bleh! Maybe we just hit it at the wrong time but I was not feelin it at all.

Great place to try a lot of different beers. The food was not bad either. The bartender very knowledgeable about all the beers too.

Love to stop by this place every time we visit Nashville. Count on a few new beers to try and jukebox tunes usually slow until about 11pm then the crowd picks up on weekends whenever weve stopped in

Woohoo!

AWESOME! Friendly and fun, even the food there was good and that's not the indistinguishable drunk hunger in me talking.

the only reason this got any freaken kind of stars is cause the guy on the mic was jammin' and their beer selection was pretty cool other than that the server should be punched in the ovaries!!! so my best friends a little dark, doesn't mean u can walk by us a million times without acknowledging us!! and when she finally comes around, she ever so naturally looked at us and while we were in mid sentence, she turn around and ignore us again.....then walk a few more dozen times around the bar helping everyone else before coming to take our order (with attitude to boot!!)...for get trying to get advice out of her, id have better luck trying to get hitler to love jews!!!!!!....she's lucky i left her tip!!!

  • Theresa F.

  • Dennis V.

i wouldve given it 4 stars if it wasnt for the blonde bartender, who would come up to us, then walk away just as we were about to speak. she ended up attending other people who came in after us. i dont know, maybe it was because she could tell we were from out of town... anyway, cool live music and yazoo is an awesome beer
