Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Always passed by this place. Decided to give it a try. The food is delicious, especially when asked to spice it up a bit. It's a very cozy and colorful building. The only thing I would change is the timing of everyone food coming to the table. We were a table of 5 and each of us received our food 10- 15 minutes apart from each other. So by time one person food came, the second person food was cold or they finish. That was no fun. I will however give this place another try one day.

Tony, Noel and I had been motivating all around the back roads from Nashville to Lebanon then to Murfreesboro back to Nashville..It was getting around lunch time and we decided to stop at Mi Patria. We have seen it many times but this was the first time we actually stopped here..and we were very glad we did. Tony's actual words when I parked..."OH boy another Mexican T'bone"...and I can tell he was not pleased. He thinks they all taste about the same. We entered into the restaurant and it was cooler inside than outside 88 degrees in Murfreesboro right then..so we opted NOT to eat outside. The gentleman showed us to a nice booth towards the front of the restaurant, took our drink orders and told Tony about the 2 - 16oz Domestic Drafts for only $3.50 so Tony chose the Bud Light Draft. I opted for soda and Noel took a sweet Iced tea. We all looked at the luncheon menu for a while and he brought us the drink orders along with some chips and salsa and also which was a GREAT PLUS in my book...FREE Cheese Dip with peppers and chorizo mixed into it..most don't give you the cheese dip for free...that was REALLY A BIG PLUS TO ME.. Tony went with the Mi Patria Baked Potato which was steak and chicken meat grilled with spices served with grilled onions and peppers poured over the top this well cooked and smashed baked potato with butter and sour cream. Also there was a White Queso Cheese Sauce poured over it..He was very pleased and it was really large for only $5.99 lunch pricing. I went with the lunch size Grilled Chicken Fajita with rice and beans on the side with lettuce and tomatoes, some quacamole and sour cream. Awesome..but way too large...I had to get a to go box and will convert the leftovers into something for dinner for the whole family tonight. Noel went with Deluxe Steak Quesdilla with white queso cheese sauce poured over it with beans and rice on the side. She loved it and said the steak was so tender and juicy. She was very pleased with the meal and said she would go here again. I loved mine but again way too big..and as we went back to the car to pull out..Tony said.."I really enjoyed that meal..i could eat here again..." I was so glad he was pleased.. I left a 18% tip and the ticket with taxes was less than $30. I would eat here again. The food was awesome and the prices were great as well. I hope you go here and try them out. They are located near the Stones River Mall down by Sears and Books a Million ...GO and ENJOY!!!

We have noticed this restaurant many times while driving through Murfreesboro. Tonight we finally stopped in and enjoyed our meal. They have so many menu choices that it almost becomes too much to decide what to order. Standard fare as it relates to pricing, most plates range from $8-12. We (party of 2) had a lot and only spent $20. My dish was the enchiladas Colorado. It said it was a spicy dish, but it was not spicy at all. It was enjoyable and if your dish comes with onions, expect a TON of onions. My wife & I also shared some ceviche and enjoyed it. Obviously it doesn't compare to being by the ocean, but for land locked Tennessee, we liked it.

Blah. That word describes the food here perfectly. Nothing had any flavor. I recognized that this place was not advertising to be a 'culinary adventure for your tastbuds,' but I've had better divey food. It was very disappointing because I was really hoping it would be like one of the restaurants back home that I really miss, but...it wasn't. I'm also glad it was 2-4-1 Margaritas that night, because I would have been highly disappointed to pay full price for what I got. The margarita mix was one of those off brands that taste a little like plastic or cleaning supplies. The only thing I can't say anything negative about is the service. Everyone was as nice as they could be. Oh, for those that like to know: I had a Fajita Quesadilla with chicken, and my husband had...well, I don't remember. What I had is one of my favorite things to eat when I'm having a craving for something bad for me, and it had the potential to be good. It just wasn't.

This is the best Mexican restaurant I've been to. Their recent upgrade to the menus are a plus and the outside area now have a wall to block you in so passerbys will not see you. I love all their foods, especially the con pollo chicken dish. Their margronas are very tasty too...and their house special queso dip is out of this world. I will always support this place. :-)

Good Mexican food really worth stopping in for a meal and a cocktail laid back and not to crowded

This is a great Mexican restaurant. Obviously not upscale, but it's on the upper tier of the Mexican restaurants in M'boro. The lunch specials are 100% legit, and I've heard that the tea is free at lunch (I only drink water or tequila, so I can't confirm for sure). The staff is sometimes a little slow, but it is what it is. The food is above average and is reasonably priced. My only concern about the place is that the chips do not have that je ne sais quoi (or in Spanish "no se") about them that make some chips miraculous, these are just average. Don't worry too much about that because you can really mask that minor chip issue with the FREE cheese dip (aka queso) and their legit salsa. Overall: YAY

This is the best Mexican restaurant in Murfreesboro. I've been to everyone too. Every meal I've ordered thus far has been the best I've had in recent memory. If your a huge queso fan like my wife and I you'll be happy to find they bring a cup free to your table along with the salsa. Also the portions are very generous, I can not remember the last time I didn't take home a doggy bad. I will say that my experience with the service is iffy. 80% of the times I've been here have extremely positive. But there is one waitress that is slow with the check. Drinks and services were good but bringing the check was a little slow. I don't think that is reason enough to take a way my five start rating.

Been coming here for years. Used to be top notch. Now the service is mediocre and the food appears to be bought frozen and fried up like the chimichangas. Last two times here have had to wait over a half hour after ordering and still get the wrong food! Not just getting one or two things wrong.

The food tastes good, and they gave us huge glasses of water. My wife got the house nachos which was great. They got my order wrong, but did on fix it when asked. The seating area is crowded, and it is very loud in the restaurant.

Love this place! Best margaritas in town! The staff is awesome and the food is great. I've been going here since 2007 and I've never had a bad experience.

They give you chips, salsa and a small queso for Free. We ate lunch here on a Saturday. It wasn't busy. The service was very fast. Our check was only $15. My husband and I shared the nachos with grilled chicken. We asked for rice on it. It was very tasty. My daughter had the kids cheese quesadilla with rice. She finished her plate. We can't wait to come back and try some other items on their menu.

If I want Mexican food on the Stones River side of the 'Boro, this is where I'm going. (The other side of town, gotta be Carmen's!) The salsa is chunky and flavorful with bits of cilantro and onion, and the spicer salsa option has a nice heat with good flavor. And free queso dip with sausage! The chips are thick and crunchy, and appear to be homemade (though I haven't thought to ask, so I can't back that up). So far, they're the first place I've seen to do bean and chorizo nachos. Whoa! I couldn't resist ordering, and yes, they were as sinful as they sound. Very rich, so I won't be attempting to eat a whole platter again! Could have used more beans though. They have excellent refried beans, but last I checked, I would skip the tamales. Otherwise, I've always had a good meal here. The frozen margaritas aren't bad either! As far as service goes, I would say that Mi Patria sits solidly in the "average" category. Doubtful you'll be wowed by anyone, but you shouldn't end up with a bad experience either.

Authentic with decent selection and the only place in town I have found which serves HORCHATA! Open a bit later than other places which is another big plus, the atmosphere is authentic as is the cooking. This is my favorite place for sit-down, table service Mexican.

This is definitely one of the best Mexican places in Murfreesboro! I absolutely love that they give you queso dip as well as salsa with your chips! Not to mention the queso has ground beef, tomatoes, and jalapenos! I always have to order another cup. Their burritos are one of the tastier ones I've had locally. The beef burrito has a bit of a spice to it, so be aware. The chicken burrito is awesome. I've had it a couple times and the last time there was way too much onions.. (I don't like onions)

Mi Patria is that hot girl you met a part in college. Fun at first, but gradually went downhill the better you got to know her. We were greeted promptly and our server arrived quickly with chips, salsa, and great queso. It took a few minutes for our drinks to arrive but no big deal since it was our first time and we needed to study the menu. After a few minutes we decided what we wanted and he eventually came back and took our order. The food was good although the "Super Big" burrito was more of an average sized burrito. The server continued to frequent the table less and less. After dinner we wanted to try one of the desserts from their menu (which had quite a few options) so we set there waiting for 10 minutes after finished our dinner for him to come take our dessert order. Finally after 10 minutes I wasn't willing to wait any longer so I asked another waitress to get our server for us. about five minutes later he arrived and tried to sell us dessert. I politely refused and just asked for a check but he continued his pitch so finally I told him I wanted dessert 15 minutes ago but you never came to which he just set the ticket down and walked away. I'm usually not much of a complainer about service because I know that it gets busy and they usually have at least 4 or 5 tables but to my count he had three and regardless of how many you have, 15 minutes between visits is too long. A 30 minute meal became an hour meal for no good reason. I may go back but I will ask for a different server.

Food: Very large menu. I loved getting both queso dip AND salsa before my meal at no cost. I ordered the carnitas plate. It had large portions and was very tasty. Service: Very friendly, slightly understaffed Cost: Seems to be about $10 a plate at dinner for the typical non-seafood stuff. Ambiance: Colorful, cool waterfall thing, and good choice of music. Overall: I will definitely return, order the same meal, and recommend it to others. I didn't give a 5th star because it's the only local Mexican restaurant I've tried and have nothing to compare it to. Overall, I'm a fan.

Great food. Great service. Try the Mi Patria dip, it is the best queso you will ever have. We eat here about once a week because it never fails to disappoint. The daily specials are great too! The only down side is the place is a bit small, so if you're trying to eat during prime time in the boro, you may have to wait to get a seat.

This place never disappoints. They always have the most amazing service and food, I've been coming to Mi Patria every other week almost and I'm always satisfied with how delicious and fresh the food is, literally the best queso I've ever had. Trust me, the visit is worth it and it won't put a dent in your wallet either. Enjoy.

Good food and good service, They always seem happy to see us and glad that we came.

I never write bad reviews about restaurants, but I had to after the poor experience we had at Mi Patria. There were a few other small issues like waiting at the hostess stand for over 5 minutes with no one saying a word to us, and my food coming out well before the rest of our table, but I'll get right to the main issue. When the rest of the food came out, everyone except my wife got their food. We just assumed that it was still coming since they hadn't gotten everything out at once in the first place. After waiting 5-10 minutes and still no food, we flagged someone down to check on it as our server was nowhere to be found. Another 5-10 minutes later our server came out to see that it wasn't there and went to the kitchen to check. When she came back another 5 minutes later, she said another server had grabbed her fajitas and taken them to another table and asked if she could get my wife anything else. Seeing that everyone at the table was more or less done with their meal already, my wife said no and we asked to speak to a manager. Ten minutes later and no one has come back to the table. The server finally came back with the bill and told us that the manager was too busy to come talk to us. I'm sorry, but I served in a restaurant for years, and I would NEVER tell a table where someone hadn't gotten to eat a meal that the manager was too busy to come talk with them. If the management at Mi Patria doesn't care enough about repeat business to take 5 minutes to talk with a customer who never got a meal, then we won't be giving them any more of our business and will encourage others to do the same.

This place is to die for!! The wait staff know us by name. Even though it's a small place wow the delicious food definitely makes up for it. Our drinks are definitely never empty. The wait staff is so kind and attentive, which every restaurant was like this. The food is fantastic!! My all time favorite is the Shrimp Cocktail!!! My husband orders the Camarones picosos. This fiery blend has the right blend of Chuy's has nothing on this place!! Being born and raised in Texas this so reminds of the flavor back home.
