I like the food here. Good salsas and dips. Fun atmosphere and great decor. Lots of handmade looking items all over. Amazing thin and crispy chips plus fresh tortillas. Fish tacos are a favorite. Had the fajitas once and found them dry and lacking flavor. The music is always too loud. Turn it down already.

Good margaritas to break up a day of beer drinking. The staff is friendly and attentive. Did not eat but enjoyed the cocktails. However the food looked and smelled very good.

It is a chain. But for TN its great. Prices are normal and the food is ok. Its a hit or miss with the service. I like the bar so i had a total miss my last visit, very unattentive, forgot dressing for my salad, and fialed to tell me there is an open chips and salsa with queso and bean bar... i ordered beans on the side and was charged for it, even though it was free lol o h well

I hadn't been to one of these before, since I'm from out of town I was pleasantly surprised by the Chile Relleno and the vegetarian options. Definitely would go again.

We went to Chuys in Murfreesboro and were pleasantly surprised at how wonderful everything was for us. Samantha, GM, greeted us and was soooo personably. She is a fantastic GM. We met Arturo, the kitchen manager, and he was super--more later. Giselle was our server and she did an outstanding job. All our needs were met by her. She was knowledgeable, friendly, and efficient. Brad the bartender is the master of drink making. Super fine. Drew and Nick helped with sauce tastings--again, friendly and knowledgeable. William our busser was quick in clearing away dishes. O my gosh--the gluten free items are absolutely fantastic!!!!!! Fresh and delicious. Thanks Arturo. The beverages were all so tasty--light and good. The entire experience was the best ever. I want to compliment Samantha and her entire staff for taking care of us. Summary---the atmosphere is sooo friendly, the employees seem to care that everything is great, and the food is perfection. Restaurants are what their GM is and Samantha has set the tone for nothing but excellence. Again, thanks for the gluten free menu...wonderful. dee dee

The food and service here are great. I definitely recommend the creamy jalapeno dip. Its amazing and the car side service sets a new standard for to go. Definitely one of my faves:)

This is by far my favorite restaurant! My family and I have been atleast 8 times in the past 6 month's. The staff is very friendly and are very accommodating with kids. The last few time we went they were slammed but you could not tell by the waiters personality and food arrived at a very reasonable time. The food is absolutely off-the-chain! The salsa tastes very fresh and not like it comes from a jar. My kids love the jalepeno ranch dip. I highly reccommend the Chicka-Chicka Boom-Boom plate. You cannot go wrong with this place. Plan accordingly when going on a Friday or Sat.. There will be a wait but thats why they have a bar and Margaritas ; )!

My second visit to a Chuys, the first time we went to Franklin. We were meeting friends for dinner on a Friday night... and this place was PACKED! A good mix of people, young families with young kids, young couples, professionals, and adults (drinking heavily and enjoying themselves!!!) We start out at the bar and had a couple drinks as their happy hour ends at 7pm ($4 margaritas and $2.50 domestics), I think they had some food on happy hour as well, not sure what. They were generous with the nachos, salsa and creamy jalapeno dip. We were told the wait would be approx 35 minutes, but were promptly seated within about 20 minutes. Once our other couple arrived we had a few more drinks, chips and salsa and eventually ordered some food. The wife and I get burrito's (advertised as big as your head) and our friends got a chicken boom boom or something of the like and a set of fajitas. All the food was good, the wife didn't care for her ranchero sauce as it just wasn't what she thought it would be... but that is our own fault. Overall the service was pretty good, decently speedy and the atmosphere was good, but not as good as the Chuys in Franklin. We will be back eventually....

2 Stars, I liked the chips and salsa! Everything else was blah, and the waiter made me feel as if I was bothering her. I hate that! Plus I like ordering al la carte a little of this and a little of that, that's defiantly a down side to this place.

Slow average food, good service and chips. I think they are living on their reputation.

  • R L.

Personally am not a big fan. All the food kind of tastes the same like at Chili's or Applebee's. I also got food poisoning from here, so that was no good. It's a cute atmosphere and the patio is nice, but if you're looking for authentic Mexican style food, this isn't it.

I was given a little Chuy's tease when some friends brought their chips and dips to a party we had - and it was all delish!! I also have been eyeing their amazing patio for some time. So one gorgeous fall like September Sunday (Sundays are when my husband and I cheat and have Mexican) we decided to give it a try! No wait, great spot outside, chips, salsa and guac were amazing. Then ... the food (and crap service) come out. First, I sat for 10 min waiting on a refill. I usually give slack when a section is full...But we were the only people in her section. Next the food comes. I got the veggie enchilada. cheese on the side .. add shredded chicken. It had cheese on the side, but also tons inside as well - and that was basically ALL that was inside. There was maybe a small tablespoon of veggies and ONE PIECE very small piece of shredded chicken in each corn tortilla. I didn't want to eat any of it, to show the sever what wasn't there...but she took forever to come back. Finally 10 min pass and she returns to ask about our food. I asked for a manager and she came out shortly. Apologized. Comped my meal. I give them one star for the Guac. The rest was horrible. As for the husbands meal - it was just "ok". He stopped eating - none of it was was worth the calories.

Always great service and some of the best Tex-Mex/northern Mexico fare you will find. The other Mexican food places try to be authentic, n but this place is the best. We eat here once a week at least and always have a great time!

  • Odessa S.

I love Chuys when ever I come up from Ga I have to go here. The portions are a good size, I always get the chimichanga, I'm drooling just thinking about it and the margaritas are lethal.

  • Meghan P.

I would go for the chips and salsa alone. I loved their fresh tasting salsa and the creamy jalapeno sauce. The chips are light and super crunchy. I also enjoyed the Chile Relleno with green chile sauce very much. Crunchy and spicy! Loved the atmosphere and the outside seating area. Prices were average and service was good. Will definitely be back.

Hands down, our favorite restaurant in M'boro! Some of our favorites are the Creamy Jalapeno Dip, the cheese Queso, and the combo fajitas. This place has generous portions, ultra-fresh ingredients, and (almost always) great service. We eat here at least once a week, and we're never disappointed. No, it's not "authentic" Mexican cuisine, it's Tex-Mex. If you want authentic Mexican cuisine there are tons of other great choices in this city. Give Chuy's a try and you'll be hooked!

Having been the to Chuy's in Franklin, and always given awesome service, I was excited to see if the Mufreesboro Chuy's would live up to it's Franklin sister. I would have to say that they did. The waitress was wonderful and very attentive. The service was quick and the Big As Yo Face Bean Burrito was...well...as Big As Mah Face! People argue over the authenticity of Chuy's "Tex-Mex" title. Whatever. It's good food, decent prices, and a good taste of the "weirdness" of Austin, TX. If you haven't been, I highly suggest it. P.S. Please, please, please! If you don't eat anything, please, try the Tres Leche cake. It will keep you coming back for more. It might even drive you do things you probably thought you never thought you would do in this lifetime.

This is pretty good Tex Mex! I absolutely love their chips & salsa and jalapeño ranch dip! I also like that they make their tortillas fresh/homemade! They have really good sauces you can choose from to put over your burritos. I like getting chicken/steak fajitas. The atmosphere is fun.

This place has been packed since it opened a few weeks ago. I sure hope its packed out of sheer curiosity for a new restaurant, because if its for the food, my fell Boro folks don't know decent Mexican food at all. I got a very sizable portion with my Elvis Presley Combo, but bland bland bland. The refried beans were the best part of the meal. The beef taco had NO taste, runny, fatty beef that wasn't even seasoned. Taco Bell puts this place to shame. Sorry, but there a much better place in the Boro for Mexican food. The didn't even offer margaritas on the rocks, I mean a genuine MX restaurant that doesn't do that?! UPDATE Folks have pointed out my ignorance about Chuy's, its TEX-MEX NOT MEXICAN el' stupido. Obviously, there apparently is a huge difference between Tex-Mex and Mexican food. I guess the difference is Tex-Mex is bad, bland food, and Mexican is just good tasting food? I've had some great Tex-Mex before, this place isn't it.

An oasis in Murfreesboro for this Nashvillian late one might after a high school soccer game. Got there at close to 10, place was dead but the service was awesome! With the exception of some late night cleaning, the food quality and awesome service was no different than if we had come in at 7 o'clock. A native Texan, I always take the opportunity to have a taste at home, and this Chuy's was as if I was sitting in downtown Austin! I might even drive by the other Chuy's just to get to this one.

Had yet another excellent dining experience at Chuy's on Thursday. Excellent food, prompt service, and an attentive manager attending the dining room to ensure customer satisfaction. Can't wait for the Hatch festival to start!

I cannot I cannot even begin I cannot even begin without getting the chills, the shakes, the withdrawal twitches. I am instantly happier at the mention of Chuy's, and I almost lost it when I saw Chuy's reps tabling at a weiner dog show in Atlanta, GA.. They're getting closer to my home! Come to meeeeee. Okay, all that's well and good, but how about starting at the beginning? Once upon a time, I visited Murfreesboro and made a friend who, unbeknownst to me, was a Chuy's employee! Despite feeling rude for dragging him to his workplace on a night off, we were Chuy's-bound on our bikes before I could say, "take me to the best Mexican restaurant in town"! Can I just start with the servers? The bartenders? The cooks? I met a bunch of them and they were all either (a)really nice (b)really cool or (c)both and funny to boot. Ok, and then: the chip car! Yes! A car whose engine is replaced by chips and salsa and queso! Help yourselves, folks! I gave myself a Cadillac-sized portion and ate all of them, which is my way of saving room for the amazing chile rellenos and shrimp-stuffed something-or-other (it gets hazy there because of the quality margaritas that just kept coming)! All the while, we would ask for extra flour tortillas because they are HAND MADE and THE FLUFFIEST. Definitely the best Tex-Mex of my young life.

  • Zach G.

Could be some of the worst mexican food I've ever had. Service was tolerable, but the food is the the standard crappy tex mex. It's not even upscale tex mex. Deep fried for the dumbasses who may like this crap. If looking for legit mexican food in Murfreesboro trying taking a drive down Bradyville pike for the best in the Nashville area....look at my other reviews to find out which place...

    (1)
  • Kenny H.

This is just a regular Mexican restaurant with a lot crazier decorations. Food was pretty good, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it.

  • Nichole F.

The wait was forever. This, to me, doesn't signal the red flags - this means the place is good and everyone comes here to eat delicious food!! However, the food was mediocre. I didn't have anything that screamed YUMMMMYYYY. I thought the homemade tortillas weren't even that good and tasted like dough that hadn't been cooked. The place was clean but, I didn't really like the food. And I'm not that picky when it comes to Mexican.

    (2)
  • Elizabeth E.

People complaining about Mexican food obviously don't understand what Tex-Mex is. This place is great. I've never had poor service or bad food here. Everything is fresh, they're generous with sauce samples, and are always willing to accommodate different tastes.

We visited my daughter and son-in-law over the weekend in Murfreesboro. She ate there last weekend and was told about their Cinco De Mayo celebration, including $5 taco bar, $2 margaritas and a live band. I called middle of the week last week to get more info. The girl I spoke with had absolutely no idea what was going on, even stated she had been off for the last 4 days and didn't really know what was going on. When I asked if I could speak someone who did know what was going on, she got an attitude and told me "what she knew for sure" which wasn't much. We got there Sat. afternoon and they had the entire front parking lot blocked off for one small rack of tshirts and 2 children's games. The "taco bar" and margarita machine were crammed into a tiny corner beside the front door. We went inside to the bar and the bartender was neither friendly nor helpful. It was very very sad. My daughter kept apologizing because she felt so bad about how lame it all was. We left without orrdering anything. Very poor management. Very sad.

I have been to Chuy's twice, once in Murfreesboro and once in Franklin. My Murfreesboro experience was exceptional, on a very busy Friday night. Our server was super-attentive and made sure our chips, salsa/sauces and soft drinks were always refilled. All of our orders were filled correctly (some substitutions of sauces had been made), and the food was served promptly. I had the Boom Boom Chicken Enchiladas, and they were exceptional. In addition to our server's attentiveness, the manager also came by our table to check on us. We were very pleased with the entire meal. Thanks, Chuy's! I'll be back.

    (4)
  • Chip G.

The chicken quesadillas were excellent, maybe the best I've had. Beef tacos were only fair. They tasted like they'd been seasoned with sloppy Joe mix. Margaritas were average, nothing special. Service was friendly and prompt. Not a bad place, but nothing earth shattering outside the quesadillas.

I will never go back. I met some out of town friends there who both brought their babies with them. I arrived first and they asked if we would mind being seated on the patio. I told them no thanks since I didn't want the babies to be cold and it was cold and rainy outside but the hostess reassured me that it was a heated patio so i said ok. Well, half way through our meal, the other two tables around us began complaining that it was too hot which I thought was crazy bc it felt frigid even with the heater on. (And I'm hot natured) . They turned the heater off so I asked the waitress to turn it back on and she did. People started complaining again and the manager came to our table and basically told us they were sorry but they had to turn off the heaters... The rest of our time there was very cold and we had to go out to the car to get coats. Later our waitress told us the manager was going to take something off our check. When we got all our checks (3 separate checks) only one of us had a meal compted?? As if they just randomly decided who gets compensated for our frustration. So dumb. I'll never go back.

Great Service - Always! I've known some of the staff for 8+ years. My favorite lunch is the Monday Special - Fried/Stuffed Avocado - chicken, cheese, in an avocado! Love the Hatch Green Chile sauce (non vegetarian) Happy Hour rocks w free chips, queso, salsa, etc. Weekdays from 4-7

First timers - went with a large group (8) plus baby. It was a Friday evening and we were greeted with friendly faces upon entering and seated promptly. The food was delicious - all the homemade sauces great! Loved it and would go again and again if there was one in my area. See the pictures of our food they speak for themselves ! All lots of flavor and could tell made in house fresh! Friendly service and casual dining.

Chuy's in Murfreesboro is a huge disappointment. Being from Texas Chuy's is a go to restaurant, but definitely not in Murfreesboro. When entering there were three people at the hostess desk, none smiling or greeting. An employee walked us to our table, not saying a word, dropped the silverware and walked away. Looking around I noticed there were more servers than patrons. The servers were at the hostess station, chatting. There were six around the hostess station, no serving in this restaurant. I counted about six tables, one leaving. So there we sat and sat and sat. Finally my husband said, let's leave. My husband and I got up and walked pass the hostess station, Ashlee said, "no one came over" I said no. It was obvious, servers were too busy chatting. She didn't to make it right or get a manager. We walked out. I realize all Chuy's are not made alike but this one, the worst. Good grief where is the management and training??

My wife and I get the fajitas for 1 and it is definitely enough for 2 people. The tortillas are amazing and so is the jalapeño ranch dip. Margaritas are very good but pricey.

  • Taylor B.

My fiancé and I are Chuey's regulars. It is not our first choice for Mexican, as many things we have tried there are mediocre (don't get the nachos), but the items that are good keep us coming back again and again. We love the chips and salsa, queso dip, and creamy jalapeño dip. The pollo con queso is always good, their tacos and burritos are pretty good too. My favorite is to order the Elvis fried chicken, which is a butterflied chicken breast breaded with potato chips, but I substitute the regular topping for their Boom Boom sauce. I like to order a side of cheesy rice and their delicious house made tortillas along with it, and make my own little tacos with the chicken, cheesy rice and creamy jalapeño dip. If you want dessert, look no further than the tres leches cake, a white cake soaked in a mixture of cream, milk, and sweetened condensed milk and topped with whipped cream and strawberries. Yum! You have to know what to get and what not to get, but the good items make Chuey's a delightful experience.

  • Chelsea P.

Okay- again, I don't live in Murfreesboro anymore.. but Chuy's makes me wish I did :( First off---- get the salsa and the creamy jalepeno ranch. Then, order the "Chuy Gooey" dip.... (not on menu).. it comes in a giant bowl that you will NOT be able to eat by yourself and includes beef, beans, guac, cheese, sour cream, pico, etc. So good. Chicken Tortilla Soup is SO GOOD. Ugh. I miss Chuy's.

    (5)
  • Aprile M.

Nice place. The decor is nice. Lots of tables and outdoor seating. They have kids meals. Service was friendly and quick. We went for lunch on a weekday. They give you chips, salsa and a creamy jalapeno buttermilk dip which is really good. Food was good.

  • Matt V.

This isn't Mexican food...the food is way too Americanized to cater to rednecks . I would t even call it tex mex at that...

I absolutely love Chuys! Its so delicious. The salsas are amazing and the prices are awesome. Good service each time I have been also.

Chuy's is a great restaurant with a interesting atmosphere. They have outside seating and margaritas by the pitcher. The food is great but a little spicy. I am big fan and will be back.

Always have a great. Good food. Good service. They also cater. Beats the hell out is cold sandwich tray! Anna in the bar totally rocks. Nancy in catering is awesome.

So we came back to Chuy's in Murfreesboro and I have to say it was a good experience. The food was hot, fresh and plentiful. Our server is the exact server we had before when we had a not so great experience. Last time she must have just been having a bad day. Today, she did an outstanding job. I will day one noticeable difference in this visit from our last and that is the Manager. This lady was engaged with customers, servers hosts, etc. You could tell she cared and made sure everyone else on her team did too. She was very positive with everyone.

    (4)
  • Dale B.

Went to chuys the other and the food was excellent. My wife and I shared the appetizer platter. It was good as usual, highly recommend it. My only complaint was that we ask for more pico and sour cream and they wanted 59 cents each for the extra. I've never heard of anyone charging for these.

    (4)
  • Jessica B.

I continue to come back to Chuys for the food only. Service has never been the best, mainly college students who honestly care less most of the time and there are usually A LOT of employees hustling about. Decor is very flashy, like most Chuy's and be ready for the creepy pictures all over the walls! However, the food is pretty good. I always get the "big as your face" burrito and the deluxe tomatillo sauce and it never disappoints. They have the thin, salty chips and pretty decent salsa. The creamy jalapeño is usually a safe bet for those looking for another sauce for both food and chips. The tortillas are made in the restaurant which is pretty cool and the ladies making them will give out samples as they make them. Overall it's a decent dining experience, even with the lack luster service I've experienced.

  • Allison B.

Spoiler alert: They charge you a tip even if you don't leave one. My friends and I met there for a quick birthday lunch the other day. It took a solid hour for us to get our food, which was mediocre. The people around us didn't seem to have to wait nearly as long. We were pleasant and understanding up to a point, and then we nicely asked for our food and to-go boxes since we were all late for work. It was not a good sign when the to-go boxes got to our table BEFORE the food. We had a rotation of three waiters, none of which really knew what was going on, and only three of us got drinks. We never were curt or unkind, but when it came time to pay on four different tickets, some of us left no tip and others left only a dollar (on a $10 meal). Normally all four of us are VERY (20-50%) generous tippers, but we did everything but go in the kitchen and make the food ourselves that day. When we checked our bank accounts later in the week, we all found that we had been charged 20% over our tab for tip. Both our banks and Chuy's will be hearing about this.

  • Amber W.

Our family loves Chuy's! The food is always delicious, and the service is usually great, and pretty quick.. Their Chile Rellenos with Boom Boom sauce are to die for! We've also had their catering several times, and it is delicious! Beats barbecue or sandwiches any day!

    (5)
  • Rheonna W.

Sitting out on their patio just makes ya think of Mexico, I enjoy the colorful decor. Our server was great! Chips and Salsa Great! Lunch was great!

Chuy's is delicious, but the murfreesboro location sucks. I'd recommend the franklin or opry mills location if you're in the area.

    (2)
  • Robert S.

Arrived a bit late in the evening and they seated us quickly, got our drink and then food desires in short order. The service was relaxed and friendly yet efficient. The hand-made tortilla stand was already closed for the night, so we missed out. The drink menu was good and the margaritas were excellent but pricy. I think they added an extra shot of tequila gratis on our last round of drinks!! My friend's food portions were good; however, the "burrito as large as my face" didn't seem to be as large as the burritos at other local places. The steak burrito did have a great taste, and the accompanying rice and beans were also nice and smoky. Before you go, make sure you understand that this is a Tex-Mex restaurant so you don't come expecting a full-on Mexican restaurant or you will be disappointed. The decor is loud and gaudy, which works for some and not for others. I was neutral on it. It does serve to set a very casual tone for the restaurant. As they closed, the dimmed lights were turned all the way up as a signal for us to leave.

    (3)
  • Kristo E.

Meh. Before I tried it I didn't think they wouldn't be authentic Mexican. Tex-Mex is only half right. No "Mex" at all. I mean what kind of Mexican place does not serve Horchata? The food is edible, but if you want real Mexican, there are better places in Murfreesboro with better tacos, enchiladas, chips, salsa, rice...... etc.

    (2)
  • David O.

"Extra Napkins Please" was a familiar refrain with our waitress. She was either too busy or too discombobulated to provide asked napkins until a good time after our food had arrived. I'm already a Chuy's fan, and the party the better half and I were there with had not had these troubles in the past so I can't mark it down TOO much for this. Parking was decent, though like most Chuy's was busy. Food was up to par and I was not disappointed in my meal, though you might want to bring your own napkins from home if you are planning on stopping in.

Where to start? This place is a wonderment of different spices for your taste buds. I have NEVER had better Tex Mex. The wraps are made on site so they are always fresh. If you want spicy- you have found the place!!

I love their salsa, the food is really good as well always fresh. The tortillas remind me of the ones in southern California :)

  • Tabitha S.

First time every going to Chuys and I was impressed. Their mexican is definitely not like your other mexican joints. To me it was more of american type then mexican but still yummy and affordable. Their jalapeno dip is soooo good and their chips were light and fresh. Now the only thing I didnt like about it was their taco salad. Yes they are HUGE....BUT, the are not like your usual mexican places. You know where after you mix it all up the sour cream and the cheese is all melted together and forms more of a soup. At Chuys my kids had to ask for salad dressing for them to top their taco salads with. Chuys taco salads are more like a normal salad put in a fried shell. But that was the only complaint I had with this place. We will be back.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
