My husband and I are foodies but we sure love cheap. Sushi is my favorite food and you can't beat the price here. The lunch special is my best friend and so is the red snapper nigiri. The other food served really lacks in quality. I feel bad for my husband who doesn't eat sushi because nothing else there is really that good. He has become fond of the bourbon chicken.

Just go look at the not recommended reviews, they're probably all true too. Decided to order some sushi for some friends and I at school, we have a 30 minute dinner break and ordered over the phone 5 orders to be delivered to the same location. We were each charged an addition 3 dollars for 5-15 dollars worth of sushi each AND didn't tell us how we were all going to be charged or our totals before charging our cards (Not sketchy at all). We are located not even 2 miles away and we paid 15 dollars for maybe 4 dollars worth of gas, such a rip off. NOW... Let's talk about the terrible quality sushi. I ordered 2 Philadelphia Rolls (/gags) these were 12 slimy pieces of sushi with half ROTTEN avocado were awful and WARM. I'm sorry but this is not a broiled roll and it was not deep fried why is it warm, gross. Overpriced, sketchy business, terrible service. BE WARNED I've never had gas station sushi, but I would imagine it would be better than that.

Every time we've gone, we said we weren't going back but then we do. Pros: The Cathay roll is so amazing and the unlimited sushi is good every once in a while. The servers are always really great. The hibachi vegetables have a great savory flavor. Cons: The seating is bad. The tables are thick. They are up high but have these bars underneath so you can't fit your legs. In the booths, you need to sit in the right place to avoid the sunken spots. In spite of their cracked covers, the booths by the front are just right. Now that we've found a spot we like with food we like, it's become a fairly regular place for us.

I'm rating 4 stars based on the particular sushi we ordered, as well as the entree my husband ordered. Otherwise, I would rate 2 stars for the pad Thai. I didn't like it at all and i've tried a lot of pad Thai. We ordered food twice in a week, if that tells you how much we liked the majority of our food. First visit, my husband ordered General tso tofu and inari nigiri. I ordered tom kha soup with shrimp, tempura sweet potato roll, and Cathay roll. Both of our meals came with salads. The Tom kha soup didn't taste like any i've ever tried. It wasn't bad, but I didn't taste even a hint of coconut and the broth didn't appear to have any coconut milk in it. Maybe they accidentally gave me a different soup or something but I probably wouldn't chance it by ordering it again unless I was dining in so I could ask in person. The salads were really simple but the dressing was awesome. The General tso tofu was really good. Spicier than some i've had but I really liked that about it. I will probably order it as my entree next time. As far as all of the sushi we ordered, it was really good. The only complaint I would have would be that the tempura was kind of soft, but I think that's because it sat in the closed container until we got home. Otherwise, really tasty and way more affordable than other sushi in Murfreesboro that i've tried of similar taste and quality. Fast forward a couple days... Literally two days. I wanted the Cathay roll again. So we placed another to go order. This was the time i ordered pad Thai tofu and the Cathay roll. My husband ordered hibachi tofu and inari nigiri. My husband's hibachi was pretty good. We will probably order from here the next time we want hibachi. Once again, the sushi was good and really affordable for what you get. I wouldn't order the pad Thai again personally, but I like enough other things about this place to keep going back.

Came for $9.95 unlimited lunch special. It's a great deal because their sushi is not bad but don't come expecting a 5 star sushi. Service is great too! The girl we had was attentive and fast. I usually get bad service at Asian restaurants.

If my overall dining experience was on par with my excellent server, this place would have a line around the block. Ahem. Server: 5 stars. My server was friendly and helpful. Food: 2 stars. If you are a discerning sushi connoisseur, skip this spot. I ordered from the all-you-can-eat-sushi for $16.95 menu. The salmon nigiri was nearly flavorless. I'm not sure if the fish was even sushi grade. It was also warm. Usually raw fish is served cold... Next was the yellowtail avocado roll. The portion size was good. The fresh sushi grade flavor was lacking yet again. Last was the fire dragon roll. This roll was loaded with spicy mayo, eel sauce, and crunchies, presumably to mask the lack of flavor of the crabmeat. Nope. Atmosphere: 1 star. I sat in a booth with the same lighting as a prison interrogation room. This is the worst lighting ever for a date. The booth had torn seats. If the party behind us moved, the back of our seat/booth rocked. You know, like on a Southwest flight, except there's sushi. Service: 3 stars. We were seated for nearly 10 minutes before our server appeared and took a drink order. Our food then took another 20+ minutes to arrive. For $17, maybe I got what I paid for? I will not be dining here again.

We had two lunch meals for $16 Lunch came with soup or salad, and an eggroll. We ordered off the menu and haven't tried the hibachi side. Mongolian beef was the best I've had in a while. Bourbon chicken was ok but would not get it again

So we decided to go here with our friends from church and it started off bad... Service was slow and cook was very disengaged. The person taking our order was apparently confused that we did not was any rice.. When the cook came he did not have the right stuff.. So instead of just passing out the extra rice because they made a mistake he decided to scoop it off the grill and through it away... Then he called us a lier by showing us what the order taker wrote down...ummm hello its not our fault that he messed up the order... It was pretty clear when he repeats you don't want any rice? And the response was yep! This place could be a lot better however it's sad when the customer service is so bad that the cook is calling you a lier! There are other places to eat in Murfreesboro and if I was to give you any advice these people don't care about you... so you should not care about their business and their lack luster customer service they provide.
(1)Sarah H.
Poor service, rude cook, then the food made me run to the bathroom!! Yuck! The soup had a sour taste. The server got part of the order wrong and the cook took it out on us. This place wasn't ever great, but it has just gone down hill. Sad that Murfreesboro can't have a good Hibachi restaurant.

The phrase "jack of all trades, master of none" usually comes to mind when visiting an Asian fusion restaurant that attempts to do it all. However, Cathay has succeeded in this venture. Fresh, well prepared sushi with a nice all you can eat offering on the menu for $16.95 (I think, going off memory here). I also love some of their Chinese dishes like vegetable lo mein, and regardless which cuisine I'm eating for dinner, I always start with the pan fried (just a very light sear) pork dumplings. Many places offer great hibachi, but Cathay's seafood sauce sets them apart - a wonderful pairing with fried rice and any vegetables or meats on the plate. The service is excellent, and there are several servers I've been seeing through the years who always greet us like family. Get there early on a weekend night, as it fills up quickly. I do not like sitting around the hibachi grill, so I always ask for the dining room and seem to be seated much faster.
(4)Ally W.
Hibachi is good (prices are good though not the best show I've seen) and at lunch sushi is all you can eat for $10.95! Great deal!
(5)Tiffany O.
My favorite hibachi!! Absolutely love this place and prefer no other hibachi over theirs!!
(5)Nazanin R.
Great service, friendly staff. I specially love their all you can eat sushi 11am-3pm!!!! But you better be sure you can eat them all or you have to pay extra for every piece of sushi left!
(5)Essence L.
My husband and I like the sushi deal. You can't beat it. Unlimited Sushi for $15. If you've got a hankering for sushi it's not bad. Always nice service. Worth a try. Good salad and soup too. Haven't had much else there so can't comment but I like what I've had.
(4)Lindsey L.
Great food! Excellent service and very quick to bring out the food. Sushi was fresh and the prices were reasonable. We will definitely go again!
(4)Jen V.
Good food at wonderful prices. Love love love the staff!!! For what you pay and what you get it's the bomb. My son will be coming in from NJ and we will be headed in and get one of our fav waitresses they are amazing!!
(5)Ashley M.
I had the fire crunch roll and the queen roll sushi. It was all just ok. The water I had to drink tasted like dirt and so did the vegetable lo mein. I really wouldn't waste your money here.

Years ago I was a huge fan of Cathay and the unlimited sushi. My favorite roll is the Dragon Fire roll and I enjoy their other unique rolls. However, after visiting last night with a friend, for the first time in probably 2 years, I think I'm better off sticking to Fin Fusion a little further down Church Street. Ordered two rolls, my usual dragon fire and the Cathay roll. We never received the soup or salad that usually comes before the sushi so I'm not sure if that's changed recently but we did ask for soup and it still never came. Sushi was brought out pretty quickly but they had put it all on one plate and I would have preferred to have separate plates since my friend and I were not intending to share rolls. They had forgotten her Pink Lady roll and instead some other random roll was on the plate. When I pointed this out, the server just kept telling me what type of roll it was and finally I had to tell him that I didn't order it and I wasn't going to eat it. (If you have never been they have a ridiculous policy with the unlimited sushi where they charge you for each piece you do not eat. $0.75 per regular sushi piece and $1.50 per roll piece.) While I have never been charged for extra on my plate, it's still a steep policy. Now the sushi itself wasn't too spectacular. I remember the first time visiting Cathay and being so amazed by the quality of the sushi and I hate to say it's not really the same anymore. The fire dragon roll was pretty good and the Cathay roll was decent until I got to the end of the roll and realized the "salmon" had a strong resemblance in texture and smell of cat food. It was unappetizing after that and I spit out the last piece of the roll because it was inedible. I did not even touch the extra random roll on the plate and the server did not charge me for it. He just took the plate and I assume the roll just went to the garbage. So much for their money saving tactics, eh? So overall the unlimited sushi is definitely worth it price wise and they also have hibachi, which I've never had. It's usually better to go on weekend nights when it's busier because it does take longer for sushi but you get to digest and enjoy your company (hopefully they are enjoyable) while you wait for the sushi to be prepared. However, I don't think I'm going to be frequenting much more and I'll spend a little a more to get Fin Fusion and all it's deliciousness.

This place was one of our regular and favorite restaurants for sushi.... then everything changed when we took our children for the hibachi experience. After waiting over an hour for a chef (having being promised the chef would be with us in 10 min and 30 min later promised 10 more min ) we chose to leave with starving and tired children. We expected to pay for our drinks and appetizers but requested the mandatory hibachi soups and salads to be comped since we were not prepared to wait so long for a hibachi chef. This request was refused multiple times. Sad to say one of our favorite places quickly became one we will now avoid.
(2)Monica P.
I enjoy their house salad & onion and scallion soup for the starter. When I come to this place, I usually go during lunch time, sometimes dinner. Not always packed, but pretty busy. I go for the all you can eat sushi and I usually get the volcano roll or other ones. Their pink lady roll is my favorite. Just remember they charge a fee for unfinished roll if you already ordered it.

We eat out often and I would have to say that we had the worst dining experience that I have ever had. We ate at the Hibachi grill. My son was served food made in the back, which we had not intended. The manager agreed to include him in the rest of the families' Hibachi dining and brought out his food to cook, but Lee, the Hibachi chef started yelling....making no sense to us. Suddenly he told a server to take my son's food away....then there was a great fuss about rice. We never could understand what was going on. My son was served nothing. He recorded this horrible dining experience on his phone, which we listened to when we got back in the car...it was ridiculous! I have never been treated this way. The chef was being so rude, he paid no attention to his preparation of our food, which ended up being very poor. We had ordered expensive dishes, so it wasn't like we were being cheapskates. We may post it on YouTube...it was epic!

All You Can Eat Sushi never seems like a good idea, so when a friend dragged me here I wasn't expecting very much. Since that time, I try to visit at least once a month. The decor is excellent and goes above and beyond your normal Chinese and Japanese places to eat. It's cozy and private so even when it's packed with diners you don't feel overwhelmed by the noise. The sushi is made to order. It can take some time but is always fresh and well made. I've waited up to 20 minutes for food but when you do get it, it's well worth the wait. The staff has always been friendly although not always attentive. My drink stays full and that is what matters most to me. I don't want someone coming by every 2-3 minutes to see how I'm doing and interrupting my conversation with friends and family whose company I am trying to enjoy. Bathrooms are clean enough. I've seen a lot worse.

Went for dinner on a Sunday night. It wasn't busy and we were seated in a booth. We ordered pork fried dumplings, chicken fried rice, pepper tuna, Cathay roll and the spicy tuna roll. We were served salads before our food. The salad dressing was delicious. The fried dumplings were bland. The chicken fried rice is good. We didn't care for the Pepper Tuna and for the price it isn't worth it. The 2 rolls were pretty good. Our check was $43.74 and for what we ordered we think it was very reasonable.

I've been to Cathay a couple of times now and I have to say, I will most likely return again and again. All you can eat sushi...and I kind of like it. There. I said it. ZOMGWTFBBQ!?! I know, I know, it's a sacrilege. It also is 9.95 for lunch, 15.95 for dinner. The lunch menu includes my favorites: salmon, red snapper, and tuna nigiri, amongst a smattering of other nigiri/sashimi and maki options. The dinner menu adds more expensive choices to the menu, such as yellowtail sashimi/nigiri and a wider selection of all sushi. The spicy tuna roll has been my standby for a long time, but with the recent outbreak of salmonella poisoning linked to spicy tuna rolls in many sushi establishments I've skipped it recently, electing to try a smattering of some of the house rolls. I've had all of the "spicy" roll options, excluding the cream cheese, and can say that yes, while they're a little sloppy, they ARE only 9.95 for your fill. They get busy enough that occasionally the sushi rice is still a little warm (more than room temperature warm, of course), or perhaps the plate was still warm from the dishwasher, but it can be a little unsettling, beyond the fact that you are, in fact, eating all you can eat sushi in a landlocked state. All I can say is thank god for air freight and the miracles of refrigeration. Perhaps I have a cast-iron gut (not likely), but I experienced no gastric distress following any of my visits. In short, I'm willing to overlook a few things for a place where I can go for sushi in Murfreesboro that doesn't close between 2 and 4, considering almost all the ones around the 'Boro close for a few hours between lunch and dinner. I kill time during a four hour break I have between classes by coming over here and having an Ichiban or a Sapporo and pigging out on cheap sushi. Don't judge me.
(3)Mojo L.
Not good don't go for all you can eat sushi. Paper thin fish you can see thought. All you can eat are rices. So bad I'm not going back.
(1)Kyle W.
Possibly the best deal on good sushi on the planet. Unlimited sushi ( nigiri and maki ) for $10 at lunch time. Never tried the hibachi, but looks and smells delicious. The sushi menu is pretty extensive for an all you can eat scenario. Spicy yellowtail roll is one of my favorite sushi rolls at any price.
(5)David F.
All you can eat sushi is a great deal. Lots to choose from and all pretty good. Been 8 times or so and all but one was a great time. But hey everyone has an off night.
(4)Sherri W.
We LOVE this restaurant! We've had the Hibachi and the regular dining room and prefer the Hibachi! The chefs have always been great and the food is excellent. The portion sizes are generous and we always get a to-go box.
(5)Kesavan V.
This place has a great bistro ambience. We had spicy tuna roll, red curry chicken and pad thai which were great. We also tried their summer roll, which was Ok (we have had much better summer rolls). This place is certainly to be visited for sushi lovers.
(5)Patrick H.
Reviewing based on lunch and to go orders. Cathay is the perfect restaurant for sushi in the Murfreesboro area. I haven't checked on any other places in the area because Cathay is where it's at! The four different occasions I've tried the Spicy Tuna Roll, Mango Shrimp Roll and the Eel Avocado. Getting sushi to go can take a very long time for them to get it to you because it's made to order, but when you do, it'll be some of the best sushi you'll ever have! One day I decided to give the sushi a break and get chicken fried rice. Comes with miso soup and a salad...all very good. The prices are reasonable and I have absolutely no complaints! I want to check out the hibachi dinners. I'm only in Murfreesboro during the day so one weekend I'd like to drive down and have dinner. I highly recommend this place for their sushi. It's a very nice restaurant.
(4)Brandon M.
Not a sushi person, but their hibachi is awesome. My wife loves their sushi rolls, and they have quick service.
(5)Peter J.
While the sushi was good, it had too much rice. Granted it was unlimited suhi buffet but I felt cheated bit.
(3)Dale N.
Hit or Miss. They are either on or off. I've been here and thought it was great and then there's tonight and you think I'll never be back. If you looking for sushi try Fin Fusion or Lemongrass just down the road a bit.
(2)Vicki S.
A restaurant touting all you can eat sushi usually conjures up premonitions of sloppy sushi and a night spent cursing and clenching one's stomach in agony. At least, that's what I feared when I hesitantly attempted the all you can eat sushi for $15.99 at Cathay in Murfreesboro. However, I was pleasantly surprised at the freshness of the fish, the lovely presentation, and - it has to be said - the lack of any ensuing digestive pyrotechnics. For $15.99 you take your pick of soup or two salads, and from there the permutation of traditional sushi, specialty sushi and nigiri are only limited by how much you can fit in your stomach. And make sure that you only order what you can eat, because you can't take home whatever's left on your plate - and they'll charge you for every piece left behind. As Cathay rivals the best sushi in Nashville, a visit there is definitely worth the drive to the Boro.
(4)Kristo E.
Went there on a busy night, didn't want to wait long and was told 10-15 minutes. Okay no big deal. Waited 30 and walked out. Also seemed pricey from the looks of how all the snobby people were there all dressed up in their hoochie short skirts and it was very loud inside. Obnoxious people in the parking lot. Better to go to smaller places.
(1)Or C.
Delicious sushi. Bizzarro food waste policy.
(4)Andrew M.
Very good Hibachi! For the price of the lunch Hibachi, you cannot beat it. Great atmosphere and just enough variance between chefs to keep it interesting but not to mess with the quality of food. I personally don't like Sushi, but several of the people I go with regularly swear by it.
(4)Jena S.
Last year I moved away from Murfreesboro, and Cathay's is one of the places I miss the most. I love the atmosphere, the food and the staff. We've had quite a few events at Cathay's and the staff always handled our rambunctious crowd with grace and efficiency. I always get the all-you-can-eat sushi option. It's fresh-made to order, so no worries that the sushi is buffet style like most places. I always get plenty of their delicious salmon, yellowtail and tuna nigiri. Maki highlights are the "fire crunchy" roll, volcano roll, and the Cathay roll. If you're looking for something a little different and a little sweet, try the Pink Lady. When trying out Cathay's for their sushi, keep in mind they are more of a fusion style place, not so much traditional Japanese sushi. They specialize in combining different sauces with various ingredients in the rolls, and there are a few more deep fried options than most places . The fish is always fresh, along with the vegetables and other ingredients. The portions of fish are fairly generous too - no paper thin slices on your nigiri here! I haven't strayed too far from the all-you-can-eat sushi, so I don't have much experience with the rest of the menu. I often get miso soup and salad here - both of which are good. My boyfriend ordered the Jalapeno chicken once and liked it (the bite I had was good). Next time he ordered the Kung Pao, and didn't care for that as much. He likes Pei Wei's Kung Pao, which is very different from the way Cathay's does their's. For one, their chicken wasn't deep fried. I had a bite and thought it tasted pretty good. Once again, both entrees tasted very fresh. One warning: Don't order sushi if you are in a hurry. The sushi is a very popular menu item, and the chefs are very busy! The menu items usually come out at a good pace, but you can wait a while for the sushi. Never been a problem for us - we usually are making an evening out of it anyways. My one complaint for Cathay's would have to be the chairs. They have got to be one of the most uncomfortable chairs I've ever had the (dis)pleasure to sit in. If you have a choice, get a booth. Just make sure you try out Cathay's!
(5)Nari P.
I like nigiri (one-bite) sushi. For all-you-can eat sushi, go for dinner time. More expensive but better options of nigiri sushi and you have plenty of time to enjoy. For the roll sushi, lunch or dinner are not much different.Their chinese dishes were good too. Their roast duck tasted like the on I had in China town in Atlanta.
(4)LM P.
A friend of mine once said, "We go there so often, we pay their electric bill." My husband and I love Cathay so much, it's probably true. How can you beat ALL YOU CAN EAT SUSHI?!?! You can't. AND it's good sushi too! Cathay Asian Bistro offers, you guessed it, all you can eat sushi any time of day. It is truly the best bang for your buck. While they offer a wide variety of sushi rolls, they also offer hibachi and Asian-style entrees. I would recommend ordering the Cathay Roll and the Pink Lady Roll. Delicious. The only thing I have negative to say is that they need a better website. You can't really read the menu online. Now, I'll just count all the reasons why I love this restaurant: 1. Sushi. Yum. 2. Hibachi. Yum. Fantastic and entertaining cooks. You can order it to go! Pickup or delivery! 3. Wine List. 4. Never wait to be seated. 5. Fast and courteous staff. (They know us by name.) 6. Never a long wait for your order even on weekends. 7. Lastly, Cathay's "Sushi for Two", which includes, an appetizer of choice, soup, salad, four sushi rolls and desert for $20! Before you go: Check out the coupon mint at couponmint.com for deals on this restaurant. There are constant offers there for BOGO and dollars off the ticket price.

I saw the commercial and though it appeared to be whitewashed, I thought I would give it a try anyway. Eh. Granted, this was lunch time. I had shrimp with lobster sauce, which had ZERO flavor to it. The egg roll was one of the worst I've ever had, comparable to mall food. The crab rangoon was just as lacking. The only thing semi-decent was the hot and sour soup, and even that was nothing special, it just actually had a little flavor, unlike anything else I tasted. The decor was semi-nice, and they have hibachi, which might be fun although doubtfully any good as a cuisine. Won't be going back.

We often visit my daughter in Murfreesboro for lunch and this is one of our favorite spots. First, the value is excellent. I am always surprised at the bill and how low it is for what you get. I typically order the Thai and have probably tried all the dishes. My favorite is the Mongolian Curry. I really enjoy their spring rolls and crab Rangoons, what keeps me going back however is their salad. It is always really fresh and their ginger dressing is first, rate. We typically order some extra to take back home with us. My wife and daughter usually go for the Sushi and I have to admit the quality is not that different from places which charge 2 to 3 times more. I have tried the Hibachi grill once and really cannot compare it to other places as I have so little experience with them. The folks around me did seem to enjoy it though and our cook had a great sense of humor.

Horrible. Our server walked by a few times without greeting us/saying anything to us. Finally got our drinks. My boyfriend and I both ordered the chicken and steak hibachi entree and our server didn't ask how we wanted our steaks cooked, we had to stop her to remind her of how we wanted them cooked. When we got our soup and salad, there was a short black hair found in the bottom of my salad. It took about 7 minutes AFTER we finished both of our soups, salads, and our cokes for our server to reappear. I showed her the hair and she said "oh, I'll get that." And put our entrees on the table. The steak was lukewarm and the chicken was hard. The fried rice had also been sitting on the grill a little too long and was flaky and crunchy. I continued to find crunchy flakes in my mouth and thought nothing of it because of how terrible the rice already was. I then found a penny sized egg shell in my rice. When the server finally came back to the table, I was pretty pissed by then, and asked, "do you guys normally serve eggshells in your fried rice?" She looked at me kinda funny and said "no I'll have to tell them about that." She finally brought our check. We gave her a coupon for buy one entree and drink get one entree and drink with purchase of equal or lesser. She took the entree off but not the drink. Coming from a server perspective, everything was all wrong. No one came to apologize about feeding me a hair or eggshell, the server never even apologized. Needless to say, everything was terrible and I will NEVER be back. - First Time Diner

If you ONLY could see every Facebook post that I write every time I go to Cathay, it would be much better than what I'm writing right now. I always want to try something new on the menu but always end up getting the all you can eat sushi dinner because it just can't be beat. It's the only and the best place in town for sushi that I go and I LOVE IT! My favorite menu items: crunchy shrimp roll, Boston roll, Spider Roll, all the Nigiri, Seaweed Salad AND there's a roll you can order that isn't on the AYCE menu but that you can get call the Fantasy Roll and it's one of my all time favorites! I probably eat $60 worth of sushi and I only have to pay $16! I just can't say enough good things about this place.
(5)Shawn H.
It is good sushi, and it is all you can eat sushi. The bad thing is that it does take a while to get your order when you place more than one. Other than that no complaints. The atmosphere is amazing, the entire store is very nice with stone and granite tabletops. The dining room is very clean and the bathrooms are always clean. The staff is very friendly and always smiling. My only complaint is waiting on the sushi.

Three stars is the average of four stars service rating and two stars restaurant rating. Travan ("Tre" for short) really saved the night for us. This restaurant opened exactly one week ago, and we could really see the newness of it all in miscommunications, kitchen operations, and staff relations. I ordered a 32 oz draft Sapporo beer. It came in a 12 oz bottle and mug. When I pointed this out to Tre, he got his superior, who told me that the mug was a 16 oz mug, so she would give me one more beer (12 oz) which would make it 32 oz. I told her I would still be getting only 24 oz of beer, so she said she would give me another 4 oz of beer. I told her she needs to take this issue to their management if they don't understand how to get to 32 oz of beer. Tre, with all the wisdom of his young age, just gave me an extra beer and promised to take the issue up with management. I ordered a soup appetizer and the salt n pepper shrimp dinner, my wife ordered the Sushi dinner. It took a while (30min) for us to get our dinners, but Tre made up for it by giving us both complimentary salads. When my soup still hadn't come, he gave us comp'd bowls of miso soup. My soup finally came, after the dinner. The food was decent! I was happily surprised after the service debacle we experienced. The Crab and Asparagus soup had crab and asparagus in it and was hot. The salt n pepper shrimp tasted right, although it was not up to San Francisco or Hong Kong standards, I was not in SF or HK, so I couldn't really complain. The sushi was fresh and the selection was good. They also have a hibachi grill, which we will try on our next venture. I looked through the window next to our booth and saw some cooks giving what looked like a pretty good show, and the food looked OK from 15 feet away, so I will let y'all know how it actually cooked up next time. The owners really sunk a pretty penny into the property. It is a converted Shoney's and Chinese buffett, and it took them a long time to redesign, but the restaurant really looks nice on the outside and the interior has a lot of asian accents that help with the atmosphere. I saw a large selection of sake and specialty drinks on the drink menu, and they also have everything from the hibachi menu to noodles, fried food, steaks and bento boxes. In summary, a new restaurant with all of the associated issues, but the basics seem to be covered and I will verify this on my next visit.

It's still as awesome as I remembered. The service was oh-so-slightly worse, but the sushi was tip-top considering the value. It's important to note that Cathay by no means has the best sushi in the Midstate. It does, however, have the best value, by far. (Read my previous review for a more thorough discussion.)

Went there with hubby and me 4 years ago before we moved. The food was pretty good. Sushi was good to. Service is great.

The all you can eat $9.99 sushi deal is a bargain, but I was very disappointed in the sushi. Personally, I would rather pay for quality over quantity. I've had better sushi from Kroger. I've been there three times and the service has been lousy every time. Forget about a refill, it's unlikely to happen. Lastly, the booths are ancient. They wobble back and forth and the cushions are sinking in. I've given Cathay three shots and have been let down every time. Definitely will NOT be giving it a fourth try.

Went for the $8 all you can eat sushi special and was blown away at how good the food was for the price. The place was really clean and had a great vibe to it. The servers were really nice and attentive. They also hooked it up a little when I ordered too much sushi which was really cool. I'm not sure why the other reviews were so bad, but I took a gamble on the place and it was well worth it.

The sushi is to DIE for, & the all-you-can-eat is an exceptionally great value.

This is one of my top 5 places to eat in Murfreesboro! The service is really good. Their sushi selection and deals are very impressive. I go during lunch and get all you can eat sushi for about $9. They also have hibachi which is pretty fantastic, and entertaining seeing it being prepared. I have always been in during the lunch hours and there is never a wait. I probably can't say it any better than, if you love sushi, eat there! If you haven't been to Cathay yet, you must!

I'm not sure but what Cathay say's is sushi, simply isn't. There should be fish in sushi, I ordered Spicy Tuna Roll and being a chef i know cost cutting way, but this restuarant is high unethical in what i got. There might have been some tuna in that mess they called spicy tuna but i couldn't see it and it sure wasn't ahi. The service was good but they so call manager didn't refund my meal given that i didn't eat any of it since they gave me the wrong roll and there was no tuna in my spicy tuna. Big disappointment, this resturant obviously is in finacail trouble and is really passing it to the customer if they are being that desperate on portion and customer satisfaction. Murfreesboro this isn't a place you would ever want to spend your money.

Eat here nearly once a week. Love the sushi lunch special. Service is consistently good. Food excellent. Have not experienced problems other reviewers have.

eh....it was ok. Maybe not really ok considering the price. I've come twice, and won't be back, as the place across town is much much better, both in food quality and service. The actual server was as nice as could be and tried very hard, but the problems were apparently coming from the kitchen, and she had no control over that. We sat in the hibachi area, for a very long time before even being approached and our drink order taken. There was myself and a friend, and another couple. We had our soup and salad and she still had not taken our order....and we sat some more. Finally 20 minutes after we had finished our soup and salad, they sat a few more people at our "table" and things started moving a little faster. I ordered the shrimp and scallops with fried rice....and noticed that when the chef placed the food on the grill there were no scallops. I pointed it out and he just smiled and nodded....I wasn't very hopeful that he had really understood what I said. Anyway to make a long story short....none of my order was on that grill. There were only 7 people at my table and I didn't think it was all that confusing but I guess it was. He started doling everyone's food out and then he realized that something was wrong. Anyway....I did get some veggies and rice and I said no when the manager came out and offered to get the shrimp and scallops (everyone was halfway thru their dinner and I didnt' want to start when they were ending)....and the manager brought out free dessert for everyone at the table. so......I was not very upset...I did get rice and veggies and I wasn't walking out of there starving, but I did get mad when they brought the bill and my meal was on there. I told the waitress my shrimp and scallops didn't make it to me, and she had to go get the manager again....he took it off but I was unimpressed now. Ok....the food I that I did have.....it was ok. The miso soup was good. I didn't like the dressing on the salad as well as I liked Fuji's dressing. The veggies were pretty good, but again not as good as Fuji's and the white sauce that they give you with the seafood and veggies was sweet.....and I didn't like that. It's a mixture of horseradish and sour cream and I love the white sauce at other hibachi grills....but I didn't love theirs. Even without the food mishap, I didn't love the taste of their food. It just wasn't wonderful.
