My parents recently moved to Mt, Juliet and one of their number one priorities is to find the best mexican restaurant in town. We all went to El Rey after reading a very good write-up in the paper and boy were we glad. Service is quick and friendly and the food is outstanding. My 4 year old had her first refried beans experience there and she's now a fan too hahaha. We've had everything from burritos to fajitas, taco salads, carnitas and more. My only complaint is that I now have to drive 21 miles from my house in Brentwood to get there. And if the owner is there, make sure to say hi. Hes super nice!!!

Great new decor and seating configuration. Service was attentive, polite, and quick. Food was delicious, close to authentic, and very reasonably priced. I am a big fan of their tasty salsa with its hint of cilantro and mild to medium flavor. A nice new change on our dine-out agenda!

I have been going here for close to ten years and have always loved the food. My favorite dishes are the quesadilla rellena with beef and mixed fajitas, and have yet to comes across a dish that hasn't been good. The servers are always friendly and the food usually comes out very quickly no matter what time of the day you visit. I have tried many mexican restaurants in Mount Juliet over the years and have to say that this is one of the best and I will continue to visit for years to come.

maybe i was feeling off (but i never feel off for mexican food?!) or maybe i ordered the wrong thing, but i ate about two bites and didn't desire another bite. i ordered one of the enchiladas, and the meat to onion/pepper ratio was way off, with way too many onions and peppers (for my personal preference). i ordered a side of rice and beans as well (they don't come with the enchiladas), and i'm glad i did. they are what sustained me, and were pretty good.

We drove all the way here from Whites Creek because we thought this was a sister store to our own local El Rey Azteca. In fact, they used to be sisters. Upon request, they serve a rendition of the sincronizada, but it is only a fraction of the worth of the White's Creek location's version. The rest of the menu was good and we were pleased generally with our food and the service.

We moved to Mt. Juliet recently from Los Angeles and my husband is Mexican, so of course we have made the rounds to try all the Mexican food in our new town. This place is the best so far. Our kids loved it. Excellent salsa, beans, enchiladas...The staff was really friendly. All in all, I give it an A+. (Great homemade flan too!)

One of the better Mexican places in town. Not on the menu, but if you order the fish plate, it's a spicy tilapia with beans, Rice, Sour Cream, and guac... it's very good. The food is served pretty fast, and the guys working are very nice, very friendly. If you order a margarita - order it have on the rocks (hold the ice) and half blended. Send me a thank you note the next morning.

Since my last visit they have changed owners and it shows. The waiters are not as attentive to substitutions, and their food lacks a lot of the flavor it used to have. It saddens me to see a place like this go down hill, but it happens.

Been going to El Rey Azteca since they first opened in Mt. Juliet. They have come a long way as far as the interior, bar, etc. One thing that has never changed is the food and service. This is the best Mexican food I have eaten and I have tried them all, even in Mexico. Service is friendly, fast, and competent. Memo and the boys do a fantastic job. I don't drink Margaritas very often, but let me tell you...their Texas Margaritas are the tastiest, most potent you will ever drink. Order by the pitcher or 1/2 pitcher; don't waste your time with a glass. The best chili rellenos anywhere. Also love their combo plates, house-made chunky guacamole, and the shrimp/chicken fajitas. Great place for us gringos to get our Mexican on. Best thing is that it is only 2 miles from my house. Highly recommended!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
