We love this place. We used to live nearby and now live 7 hours away. We gladly make the 45 mile one way diversion from I-75 to come here. Don't miss it and if you have not tried it, you are missing a gem. Oh yeah, I suppose you want to know about the food.....the menu is fairly small but consists of Hibachi and Teriyacki selections (chicken, steak, shrimp and scallops). Each entree is accompanied by fried rice and sweet cooked carrots. The dishes include great ~portobello mushrooms and are topped with sesame seeds along with a side of a thousand island type dipping sauce. There is nothing fancy about this place, just great tasting food. Enjoy

Okay Morristown. I'm here to be the official tie breaker. I pulled in from the interstate to see if it's really that good or if the naysayers wouldn't know good Japanese food if it punched them in the face. We chose the drive through option which was eight cars long at 5:35 on a Thursday. Can we pause for a minute? As others have said, the menu is hibachi style. You pick either hibachi (cooked in soy sauce) or teriyaki (cooked in a sweeter teriyaki sauce) with a choice of shrimp, steak, or chicken. The meal was really inexpensive for hibachi style food. The prices were around $8 per plate. It maybe that's because they staffed the kitchen with high school kids and not knife wielding entertainers. We got three meals total and the bag weighed probably five pounds - no kidding. I ordered the teriyaki chicken which came with rice, carrots, and broccoli. The carrots, rice, and yum yum sauce were on point but sadly the chicken WAS overcooked and without flavor. I couldn't detect any teriyaki flavor. However, I think for fast food this is an excellent option and certainly healthier than other options.

Great place to eat!!! Incredibly consistent and the taste is out of this world!! Great service and always clean and tidy. I eat there several times a week and have never been disappointed. Never! Highly recommended.

Great Japanese food! I like the hibachi chicken and broccoli with shrimp sauce. Can eat inside or go through the drive-thru.

I do not understand Morristown's obsession with Akita Express. I'll chalk it up to a lack of good options in the first place, because that's all I can begin to figure. There is nothing Japanese about this restaurant (which is fine, I'm all for some Americanized Asian food), but that isn't the problem. The problem is, is that anyone could make better at home, and for much cheaper. The food is boring, and pretty much tastes the same all-around the menu. Seriously, anyone with even the most marginal amount of skill in the kitchen could make much better on their own at a fraction of the price. The rice (seriously, the rice) has a grainy, off texture, and the quantity of the food isn't large enough to make up for its other, many failures. I wish (oh, how I wish) Akita was as good as some claim, but it isn't.

I tried Akita for the first time yesterday. We ordered two of the hibatchi chicken and a side of mushrooms. I got some change back out of twenty. The two entrees fed four adults! The chicken was a bit dry but the amazing sauce made up for that. The drive thru was convenient and quick. Overall it's good food for a great price.

I had the chicken & beef teriyaki combo. Every other bite of meat was a tad tough and none had any flavor. Luckily I had requested extra teriyaki sauce (which they charged me extra for) for my rice but I was able to dip my meat in it to add some flavor. The yum-yum sauce was a very thin & watery. The portions were good and the service was great. I don't think I'll be back.

I LOVE Akita. Now that I do not live in Morristown I crave it and it is top on my list to stop and eat when I come home to visit.

Definitely good food! Very limited menu but to pull of japanese fast food ans deliver a quality product you have accomplished something great. As a frequent traveler I just wanted to get something to go that tasted like I was eating in so I read the reviews and went. I ordered the vegetable and fried rice entree. It was ready in less than 5 minutes and was really good,. Sort of felt like I was stepping up to the counter if any other fast food place but the product delivered was much more pleasing. When in morristown, I'll definitely eat here again.

The food here is addictive!! I eat here at least 2 times per week. The price isn't too high for the quality of food you receive, and the waitresses are almost all great. If you are looking for quick Japanese food, this is the place you want to go.

Akita is the ONLY place in Morristown to get great Japanese food! In fact, their food is so good that I occasionally get requests from my husband's staff to bring it to them at work in Rogersville! Their prices are reasonable, their service is fast and friendly, and they have a nice variety of dishes to choose from. My husband and I are loyal Akita patrons and will continue to be! Give Akita a try! You will NOT be disappointed!
