Had a New York strip the 1st night. It was cooked perfectly. Golden Ale was good also(Very nice light beer). I decided to take my wife back the 2nd night because I wanted to try a wild rice dish(#23). It was crazy good! I had to try the original beer (51). It was very very good with a little bite. Not very hoppy but a bite. Wife had catfish. I tried it and it was great as well. Hot fudge pie was to die for!! Definitely going back to try the tamales.

It's been 20 years since The North End had arguably the best late night bar food in town, and not a visit's gone by since that it hasn't found a new way to get worse. Almost an hour to get a takeout order while the place is maybe half-full and has 3-4 servers on staff. That's infuriating enough, but during the aforementioned 50-minute wait, my friend and I got served ONE drink. We'd have ordered another after, oh, say 15-20 minutes or so, but unfortunately we didn't see our server again til about 35 minutes after we ordered. And that was to tell us our food would be out in "a few minutes". Which turned out to be true. Give or take another 15-20 minutes. But whatever. I didn't come here for competent service (thank goodness), I came for competent bar food. So how'd that work out? I'll let the raw chicken sandwich pic answer that. Goodnight, sweet Westy's/North End. See you in restaurant heaven.

What a joke?!?! I think I'm being punked right now! The service here totally sucks! Service is beyond worse! We sat for almost 30 minutes before anyone acknowledged our table. Being that it is really packed today due to Bass Pro grand opening traffic I could sympathize. After our drinks were brought to us, we waited another 30 minutes before our orders were taken. Now this is when the waiting game really started and our table was it. An hour pass by...cups have been empty since the first drink....BTW WE NEVER GOT REFILLS.....I BELIEVE THEY RAN OUT OF FOUNTAIN DRINKS, BREWED TEA, AND WATER! The food finally came out and my husband order the jambalaya and it was disgusting (he usually can eat whatever so I believe it was). I ordered the chicken and spinach sandwich with cream cheese and my chicken was not warm. My uncle ordered a chef salad and he didn't say much about it. I gave two stars due to my fries being hot. Oh yeah.....Did I mention we never got refills on our drinks.

Friend gave me gift certificate!! I love going down to Westy's in order to watch sports when am feeling to tired in order to tackle steps at the FedEx Forum. Westy's!Downtown does deliver especially to hotels, apartments and offices in downtown area with fresh & hot food.

I was at the Crowne Plaza at the north end of downtown, so Westy's would be slightly uptown, I believe. Perfect spot for a late (10:00) dinner. I had the pork loin wrapped in bacon and a couple of pints - High Cotton ESB and Lazy Magnolia IPA. The waitress was really sweet. She bolted out the door while taking my second drink order to pay back a customer who had accidentally overpaid her. Food and beer were fine, although they really need to improve on the iceberg lettuce side salad *and* garnish. There is more to lettuce than iceberg, and it does not include grated American cheese.

A hidden find. Hubby and I were downtown at The Pinch Festival today (yeah, I didn't know there is a little area right by the Pyramid that is in revitalization mode. Just a few little restaurants, an art gallery and a boutique and a few other businesses in this neighborhood. The festival was fun but the food trucks were few so we went over to Westy's and sat outside at a picnic table on a lovely spring day. The menu was overwhelming--like lots of choices but no pics. Several things jumped out at me but I did the ol' "let's ask the waitress" trick. She recommended a few of their more popular items and we each selected one of her choices: my husband got the Reuben sandwich and I got the Wild Rice, mushroom, broccoli and cheddar bowl (AKA the #10). She was right on with both recommendations. We tried each other's lunches and concurred that they were both outstanding. The seasoning on the rice bowl was oh so much goodness. The bad thing (well, good for them) is that once Bass Pro shop opens, it might be harder to score a table right away. Can't give five stars only because we had to flag down a waitress after waiting for 10 minutes and then there waS confusion about who was supposed to have been covering our table (the customer really doesn't need to know about all of that behind the scenes stuff) and then we had a fairly long wait for our meal. But it was a beautiful day and we weren't in any particular hurry.

Great unique place! The vintage decor and lighting made it feel really homey. The customer and food was great! However, when we ordered the cheesy bread as an appetizer, it did not come as we expected it to come (like "normal" cheesy bread that you would get anywhere else.) Their "cheesy bread" was sandwich toast with a slice of American cheese on it. Lol.

We got into town late last night & headed to Westy's about 1am since they're open til 3am & it's close to our hotel. The place wasn't packed but it held a steady crowd. We wanted to chill in a low key environment and Westy's was a perfect setting at the time. Our server Jamie was fun & friendly. Two of us ordered the catfish basket, mine with tots & his with fries. They came out nice and hot (temperature hot). The catfish pieces had a nice crunch, good flavor although a bit on the salty side for me and the fish was moist & not over cooked. He & I both agreed that we'd had better but these were not bad. Our picky-eater friend ended up ordering the lemon pepper chicken wings with fries. I don't think she was a huge fan by the way she stared at the wings. I believe looking at the whole wings including the wing tips threw her off. I tried one (the wing not the tip). It tasted like dry-rub salted wings. I thought it was decent but then again, I like my wings & ribs dry-rubbed, not wet or slathered in sauces. She wanted a sangria in which I questioned the thought at a joint like this. Our server said that they can make it... it did sounded refreshing so I went along. It did the job of quenching my thirst. I'd come and hang out at Westy's again. And I wouldn't hesitate ordering the catfish again... And perhaps trying other items on the menu... AND hopefully remember to leave room in my tummy to try their hot fudge pie.

Although the reviews for this place aren't that great on Yelp, I personally love it here. Their menu is pretty large with a wide variety of foods that caters to all different types of cravings. Today was my second time going here and I had their "original" rotel as an appetizer, which tasted just as good as any other homemade rotel I've ever had. The chips that came with it were delicious, fresh and flaky. I also got their #30 Wild Rice dish which included grilled chicken, sautéed mushrooms, peppers, broccoli and cheddar cheese. The waitress recommended it to us and I wasn't disappointed. It came with a yummy dinner roll (which was served warm), that had a hint of sweetness to it. And for dessert, me and my boyfriend split their Ultimate Hot Fudge Pie which is THE BEST I've ever had. SOOOO GOOD everyone needs to experience it while in Memphis. If you don't stop by for food, then then come for the hot fudge pie... It's to die for.

Food was decent and menu is pretty extensive. The service was outstanding, and our wait staff was very friendly and accommodating even though we were dining with a hungry and fussy baby. They helped entertain him while we were waiting on our meal to be served, which was much appreciated after a long, tiring, hot day exploring downtown Memphis. Would definitely eat here again when passing through!

Great casual eating spot in downtown. I had the four-veggie lunch special, which was a good value and very filling. You pick four different sides, and it comes with a slice of flat cornbread. Mashed potatoes, tater tots, mac & cheese all count as veggies. Unfortunately the baked beans have a few hunks of meat in them, so if you're strict vegetarian, be sure to check with your server and not assume veggie dish = vegetarian. Welcome to the South!

The closest restaurant to the Memphis Convention Center, a block and a half away. Food quality is ok. Not fabulous, just A-OK. The highlight of the meal was the Hot Fudge Pie. $4.95 for a pile of vanilla ice cream on a fudge pie. Service on one day was quick and the next was so slow that we had to take out our food. Pulled chicken sandwich on day one was fine and the next day was dry. So it's a hit or miss experience. Yelp 31 Reviews Challenge #17/31

This place is one of the best kept secrets in Memphis. It has been around for a long time but whenever I ask people if they have been to Westy's they ask me where is that...and I tell them! I have been here about 4 times and now that I live in the area I come here more often. They do deliveries for orders $12 and up which is great! They have an awesome menu and it goes on forever. They have every wild rice dish you can imagine! Every time I go here I always end up getting a different dish to see how they all compare to each other. The sandwiches are also really tasty! I always order the fried okra even though it is not on the menu and they make it for me! I always get the same sweet and spirited waitress. She is also happy to serve and loves her job and you can always tell. Want a good meal with great service in a low key place?...look no further cause you have found it!

Decided to try this place after some coworkers raved about it. Customer service is great! Everyone there is super nice, typical southern hospitality. I sat outside and enjoyed the nice weather and people watched, it's in a good location. The sweet tea was perfect!! They have a pretty extensive menu, I guess they are known for their wild rice dishes because they had a million and one ways to make it...I got the 4 bone rib platter, and my coworker got the wild rice with beef, cheese, and onions. Both were just ok....you can smell the bbq from down the street...but the ribs tasted like they baked them in the oven, was kind of disappointed. The wild rice was ok, something I could have done at home. Wish it had more cheese! I told the friend doughnuts with me to go, they were basically a watered down version of beniget's with very little powdered sugar and chocolate sauce. I would go again only because it's in a convenient location and their sweet tea is good...but the food was just average.

I arrived in Memphis last night after a very long drive and was exhausted. I fell asleep around 7 and woke up around midnight starving. I was so relieved to see that Westy's delivered until 2 am . I ordered a catfish basket with fries and slaw. The driver arrived in the Sheraton lobby in only 9 minutes. I was worried that the food may not have been freshly prepared in such a short time but everything was very good and hot {temp] Can't wait till my next trip to Memphis to try something else.

Out of spinach. Couldn't serve artichoke dip. Out of french fries. Dirty, sticky table. Greasy floor. Shrimp bisque tasted a way too much like sour cream or some really strong cheese and a little too out-of-the-can-ish, but may very well have been homemade. I had the wild rice with shrimp, onions, and mushrooms (VERY small portion for $12). It tasted like wild rice with shrimp, onions, and mushrooms - nothing more - not special. Charged me $1.50 to add four small strips of bell pepper to the #8. Grrrr. Wife ordered catfish sandwich. Order was messed up and the waitress, who apparently wanted to impress us with her memory and not write down the order, blamed the mixup on the cook. She did, however, comp the sandwich. Wife said sandwich was "ok". Son had bacon cheeseburger. Had diarrhea before we left the place. Bathroom full of mosquitos and door wouldn't lock. Daughter had French Dip. Said it was "ok".

Only had a short time in Memphis but didn't want to eat at the hotel. Found this gem thanks to Yelp that was within walking distance from the Crowne (literally 5 minute walk). Local place that is also open late & delivers!! I ate in & had the blue plate lunch special with catfish, fries & coleslaw. Catfish was delicious, fries were hot & fresh & the coleslaw was just the way I like it!! The wait staff while busy were very friendly & accommodating. I will definitely be coming back the next time I am in town. And next time I am saving room for their famous Hot Fudge Pie

I love eating at Westy's! Their wild rice dishes are the best! I love the #15. The chicken & dumplings is good too. The dumplings are the fluffy kind and that's hard to find. Their famous Hot fudge Pie is yummy. I love the way the brownie is crunchy around the edges of the ice cream. The staff are very hip and friendly. The ambience is cool and it's in the up-and-coming Pinch District on North Main downtown. They can get really crowded when there are conventions in the area, but we've always managed to squeeze in for some of their good food.

Definitely a good option for southern style comfort food. They have good food with a large menu to choose from. The gumbo had a tomato base with perfectly cooked shrimp and enough kick to be entertaining. The waitress / bartender was friendly and efficient.

Great food for a bar! First off I love this place because I can show up in workout sweats and not feel out of place or go there with my husband to kick off a date night/night cap all dressed up and not feel out of place. Very versatile crowd here with, I'm sure, a few great story tellers parked at the bar. I've ordered takeout of a wild rice combo while my husband loved the spaghetti and meat sauce and so we decided to try it in person and walked the two miles from south bluffs. We sat outside and had average service. Our friends joined us and we were all surprisingly shocked at how great all of our entrees were. The marinated chicken sand which, the French dip, fried pickles, nachos, and the chicken philly were all great and the sandwiches were served on great buns with a choice of side. After a couple beers were had about 3 rounds of shots and they were expertly made by the Bartender. To cap it off we had their brownie/ice cream dessert which was amazing! I normally would never order food at a bar, but this place has broke the mold for me. And they deliver till 2am!

Loved the wings...whole wings, we ordered plain so my boyfriend and I could each use our own sauce. The were tossed in a seasoned salt so even without sauce they were flavorful. They were cooked extra crispy just like we ordered. The stuffed mushrooms were good sized and yummy! Delivered hot and on time.

I am shocked at the high reviews. I used to work there, so I've had a bunch of stuff on the menu. My stars go to the rolls (I think I ate my body weight in rolls while I was there!), the hot fudge pie, and the fact that it's open until the wee hours of the morning. Sucks for us closers, but good if you need a meal at 2 am. Having said that...if you are looking for bar food (fried), this is a great place. But be aware - most of it is frozen or microwaved. I would get a kick out of people who raved about the ribs - they are microwaved, then finished on the grill. With super-awesome rib places throughout the city, never understood those that got them here. Tamales - microwaved. Gumbo - made then frozen. I do like the rice dishes, but put enough butter on something and it's bound to taste good! Anyway - not really intending to rag on the place....just was so surprised to see 4 stars on Westy's.

Had a party of 30 with reservations. Upon arrival they would not change the tv station and then a roach fell on one of us to which they replied "that happens all the time" then one of our four tops did not even get a single plate of food. I called late since they were open and delivering. My address was taken awkwardly and then my order. I was told a 45 minute wait was more or less standard. 25 minutes into my wait, I was called and told my order was canceled and I wasn't in the delivery zone. When I asked to speak to a manager, the poorly spoken Mr. Lorry or however he said/spelled his name proceeded to yell at me over the phone. He was so rude and unprofessional. I asked to speak to the manager and he said he was busy bar tending. He hung up on me. I called a few times and the line was busy! I called back. He said he would block my number. He hung up. I called again and he acted like he couldn't hear me. When I tried to reach a manager on my final attempt, a waitress answered and apologized. I never got a manager. "We have new staff and they are still being trained." This was the excuse. Dive bar downtown with poor customer service. I was treated with hostility. I will not call nor return again. I will detour others.

So my original review was based on my delivery experience. I have a new take on the place after actually having dinner there. It's pretty damn loud in there. I don't know what they could to to absorb some of the noise, but O.M.G. I was stressed out just sitting there. The noise level was crazy. It's not a big place, probably 15 tables or so. There must have been only one server working on a Thursday night dinner shift. He was nice, super nice, but it was so hard to get his attention he was clearly overwhelmed. There is definitely something on the menu for everyone, and I mean everyone - the vegetarian, the meatatarian, the sweet lover (the hot fudge pie is omg good). They do have a kids menu, and for 4 bucks your kid can get a cheeseburger almost as big as his face, or other typical kids meal choices if you wish. All the servings for kids are huge. I'd like to reiterate that the fried corn off the cobb is delicious. No matter what you have, order some of this on the side. Yumm. If you choose to have lunch, dinner, or some drinks here - be prepared for some noise. If you know what to expect, you won't be disappointed.

SO glad to have found a place downtown that delivers milkshakes and good burgers! This menu has pretty much anything you could want from rice dishes and sandwiches to pasta and salads. I was impressed by the food, low prices and quick delivery. Westy's is a downtown gem!

I've been here a number of times.First time was amazing. Each visit keeps getting more and more inconsistent. Although if your bad enough times that can be considered consisitent. Smoked sausage Reuben is good.... sometimes. The chili Cheddar and onions smoked sausage was barely edible the one time I have had it (I could ignore cold chilli if it had flavor). People I have eaten with love the cheese dip. The gumbo wasn't to their liking albeit they are gumbo/Jambalaya/etoufe from louisiana experts. The roach crawling up the wall did not help the review but could of helped the chilli. Fried biscuits and rasberry sauce is the best thing there. Three stars for the multiple visit fails and that's one more than I should give, dang biscuits.

it looked incredibly popular and despite being incredibly busy we were excited to try it but were beyond disappointed. we tried a creole and a southern dish, but we waited over an hour for our food. our server ignored us and the staff was very dirty, I can't imagine the kitchen. and the hot fudge pie is more appropriately named a brownie sundae.

More than just bar food, this legendary establishment serves unique fast dishes such as great wild rice concoctions , perfect gumbo, southern style tamales, and fudge pie to die for (one serving feeds 2 or 3 people). Ambience is great. Service can be variable but everybody is friendly. Good place to take kids. We like to order take out. You can almost always pull up to the front door and run in for your order. Just check to make sure they got it right. Patio is open in warm weather.

Too bad there isnt a 0 star rating. Long wait for our frozen food, lots of excuses, but the cockroaches might be a bit much, even after the excuses. Probably a great place if you are drunk but wear closed toe shoes - otherwise, go anywhere else - and I mean anywhere.after all the bad experience they did knock off a dessert - wow thanks for the memories.

About two or three years ago, I ran into a friend while heading to my favorite bar, The Flying Saucer. After talking about this and that for a few minutes, my friend recommended Westy's One-Eyed Bacon Cheeseburger with pepper jack cheese. Actually, he said "get the One-Eyed Jack Burger," which is a lot easier to say. It didn't take me long in making my way to Westy's (located in Downtown Memphis' Pinch Neighborhood), where I had one of the best burgers in Memphis. The reason why I love Westy's burgers is a simplistic one. While the other components of the "Jack Burger" are really good, the ground beef is what makes it great. The meat is chargrilled to order without any special seasonings to jazz it up. My guess is that Westy's uses a little salt and black pepper and nothing else, which doesn't matter as long as it tastes great. In the "One-Eyed Jack Burger," the meat comes with mild pepper jack cheese, a fried egg and bacon that's tender, chewy and full of smoked flavor. All of it, along with lettuce, tomato, pickles and a bun (an in-house baked onion roll) makes for one of the best burgers in Memphis. SIDE NOTE: While Westy's does a good job in making hamburgers, the restaurant isn't always perfect. For example, my boss (who sprung for the ribs that I will talk about later) got Westy's Helluva Burger that she wanted cooked "well done." Despite taking the request, she got her burger a little undercooked. She eventually came around to liking the cheeseburger, but wasn't completely satisfied. So while Westy's gets it right most of the time (like when I order burgers cooked "medium rare"), it is prone to making mistakes. Burgers aren't the only thing that Westy's makes. The bar/restaurant has an extensive menu that has everything from rice bowls and soups to steaks and pasta. Among the more intriguing items on the menu is the barbecue ribs. When I saw it, I was skeptical if Westy's could pull it off. With the restaurant having a huge variety of food, I wasn't sure if the kitchen staff had the time, equipment (such as a barbecue smoker/pit) and expertise to do ribs right. Fortunately, I got a risk-free opportunity at work to try Westy's ribs. The experience didn't turn out well. The Westy's ribs, unlike its burgers, are underwhelming. The meat isn't as tender as I and most people like, and lacks the smokiness that comes from hours of roasting in a barbecue grill/pit. Most of the ribs' flavor comes from the barbecue sauce that is the typical sweet tomato paste stuff that anyone can buy in a grocery store. To borrow a term from fellow blogger Memphis Que, the ribs are nothing more than "fast food barbecue" that are a step below Tops Bar-B-Q. As much as I hate to say it, but the ribs met my expectations in a bad way. However, given that Memphis is disputably the BBQ capital of the world, I know that I don't have to rely on Westy's for good barbecue. As long as the burgers are great, I'll continue being a patron of the place. The sides that came with the ribs don't tickle my fancy, either. While the tater tots are merely okay, the coleslaw is too creamy for me. It seems that it uses a lot of mayonnaise to make it, which in turn overwhelms everything else in it. For the slaw I had, I threw it away after a couple of bites and focused on the rest of my lunch. Combined with mediocre barbecue, the coleslaw doesn't come close to genuine barbecue establishments in terms of satisfaction. For dessert, I decided to get a variation of one of Westy's signature dishes. As a step up from Jake's Original Hot Fudge Pie, the Ultimate Hot Fudge Pie is (according to the menu) a brownie cake "drizzled with raspberry and roasted pecans, buried under French vanilla ice cream and topped with whipped cream and strawberry." That seems like a humongous dessert, but it didn't appear that way when I initially got it delivered. Not wanting to write about something that wasn't complete, I will wait until I make another visit to Westy's. With the contrasts of reactions to two of Westy's many entrées, it seems to me that the restaurant/bar can't do everything well. However, it has done a relatively decent job of providing good meals for me in the past so I'll try not to be too critical of it. In my opinion, I believe that it is difficult to employ a "jack of all trades" strategy that provides consistent quality in food or anything else. That said, Westy's manages to make great cheeseburgers (although my boss will disagree) that will keep me coming back. To read the entire review, go to kensfoodfind.com/2013/11…

I went there for lunch last week. The food on this occasion gets 2 stars but the people get 5. I ordered the hamburger steak with mushrooms and onions, mashed potatoes and what I thought would be hot streamed broccoli. The hamburger steak was a bit disappointing, it was nothing more than a flat processed patty you would find on a chain food hamburger. It was tasty though and was seasoned perfectly/ The mashed potatoes were really good but the broccoli was just a cup of raw broccoli. The staff was all really friendly, everyone one greeted and spoke to me while I was there. This place seems to be a family run restaurant and that really shows in the care they take with their customers. I will definitely return but will try something else on the menu next time and hopefully can come back and give them a better review.

I've been coming here for almost 3 years and I have never been disappointed in the service and the food. Jen is my favorite server, I always come to see her because she gives great service and very personable information on what is good to order and what she likes to drink. The catfish basket and catfish meal entree is the best catfish I've tasted than any other catfish company in Memphis. They handmade and season the catfish right when you order so you should never be disappointed. Their drinks are reasonable price and they are not stingy with the liquor. This restaurant is great when you want to grab a late night dinner because they stay open til 3 am. They also deliver if you live or know someone that stays in the downtown area. Lastly, they are located in a hidden place in Memphis so you have to use gps to find it but this hidden, hole in the wall gem is worth it. Also don't forget to get the Hot Fudge Pie. It is delicious if the ice cream isn't melted.

We just stopped by for cocktails but man, what a HUGE menu! I wish we had known and had been up for a meal. Actually, the reason we ended up here was due to a tip from one of the street car drivers, and I'm glad we know about it now.

Westy's has everything on their menu. Everything. Ribs? Yes. Pork loin? Yep. Spaghetti? It's there. Alfredo? Sure. Hamburgers? Of course. Their kids menu is also pretty diverse, and it includes tots/fries and a drink for four bucks. Oh and happy hour is over at 7pm. The dining area is somewhat cramped. Their bar is a decent size. For some reason, the place is seriously loud. I don't know if it's the crazy middle aged downtown crowd, or if the acoustics are just weird. Our server was very friendly. Very. Almost over-the-top, but he was also busy with several large parties. Overall, it's a place I'd go to again for good food at good prices. I just wouldn't go while it's busy if I could help it.

If I lived in Memphis Westy's is the place I would go all the time. Not because the food is particularly amazing, but because the ambiance and atmosphere are just enjoyable. The people are friendly and funny, the decor is eclectic, the attitude is laid back and the menu is huge. It would take you years to get through that thing. Something for everyone. All together enjoyable.

Our waitress was the best. She was friendly and funny. Great food. Try the shrimp wrapped in bacon. The fried catfish was perfect. Crunchy outside and flaky and moist inside. Will definitely go back here on our next trip south.

Located in the heart of The Pinch district, Westy's is home to one of the most famous delicacies in town: The Hot Fudge Pie. Jake Schorr, co-owner of Westy's, invented the dessert back in the early 70's at another restaurant he owned at the time, Jefferson Square. It was a big hit, and he carried the recipe with him on to his next restaurant The North End - a place I went to many, many times - just for the pie. And now it's available at Westy's. It's rich and dark and soft in the middle - not quite the consistency of pie, but not cakey either, it's a perfect marriage of both and served with French Vanilla ice cream, fudge sauce and whipped topping. I cannot describe how yummy it is. I also like all the wild rice dishes at Westy's. You can get it smothered in mushrooms, grilled chicken, bacon, cheese and all sorts of other options. Their sandwiches are good as well. Another nice perk is that they are open til 3 am. So if you've been hitting the downtown scene all night and are looking for a little late night snack that doesn't come from a fast food drive in, then Westy's is your place. Be sure and get the pie though!

Thank God this was in walking distance from our hotel. If it wasn't, I wouldn't have tried some amazing catfish and jambalaya! WOO HOO!! It also doesn't hurt that the staff is super friendly, hospitable and funny. You definitely leave feeling like you made some life-long friends. The decor is pretty dive-y, but the food makes up for it!

I agree that this isn't the best place to eat in the world but if you are looking for an easy place to eat, priced right and good, then this is your place. The wild rice bowls are very good. Especially if it is late at night. Not too big, not too small. I loved the atmosphere and hospitality here. Very friendly. They make everyone feel like regulars.

I recently stopped in for lunch since it was just up the street and I was short on time. Service was very prompt and attentive, my server was very on top of things considering the lunch rush. Each table had a Downtowner, Memphis Flyer, and some other Memphis paper on it, which I greatly appreciated. The restaurant is cozy and not at all like a few tourist traps in the area. I ordered the Strawberry Melt (buttered bread, cream cheese and strawberries, grilled) with a side of tots. Now don't dismiss this sandwich! It was perfect since I had missed breakfast, both a little salty from the butter and sweet. The portions are generous, there was seriously a mound of tater tots. I could barely keep awake at work afterwards, I was in such a food coma. I might have to stop by and try their infamous Hot Fudge Pie.

I tried two of the specialties: the asparagus soup and fried corn. Both were tasty and out of the ordinary bar/restaurant menu. I appreciated their uniqueness and that I could tell that the corn had been cut off a cob and just poured from a can. The place is down to earth and friendly. It could have been a little cleaner but then it wouldn't have had that 'dive bar' feel. Worth returning to next time I am in Memphis

Before now, I had only had two experiences with Westy's in my life. They both involved Zoo Rendezvous, and they both involved hot fudge pie. Every year I have attended Zoo Rendezvous, I make it a point to stop by the Westy's booth to try this hot fudge pie at least once (this past year I may have gone back for seconds and thirds). Since I have enjoyed their hot fudge pie so much, I thought it was time to take a trip down to the actual restaurant to see what they had to offer me in terms of real food. Westy's is a casual dining spot on North Main in Downtown Memphis. They Christmas lights, pictures on the walls, and booths so you can kick back and relax. This is exactly what we did that night as we prepared ourselves for the Death Cab for Cutie show at Mud Island after. When sitting down, the first thing I noticed is that I am welcomed with reading material on the table. Just in case your company is dull, pick up one of these local magazines to read before and during your meal. Dining alone for lunch? Even better. Erin started off with a side salad, and it was a very good size for a side salad. It also came with lots of yummy toppings. They don't skimp on these. Scott and I ordered some toasted ravioli and tamales to start off with. They came out very quickly, which excited me as I was starving. However, they tasted like the kinds you buy at Sam's Club and make yourself. They are obviously just your no-name brand raviolis and tamales that are heated up to serve to guests. For entrees, Scott ordered the Helluvaburger, which is "Pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, hot mustard, onions, and pickles with jalapenos and Tabasco on the side" and tater tots. I ordered the Pulled Chicken Sandwich, which comes with lettuce and Gouda on an onion roll, and french fries. Overall, we both agreed the sandwiches were very average. There was not much special about them, and I feel I could have made a better sandwich at home. Erin got a wild rice dish with chicken and veggies. She said hers was really good. According to her references, the rice dishes are the best. Guess that is what we should have gotten. For dessert, we obviously had to get the hot fudge pie, as this is how I was originally drawn to the restaurant. The hot fudge pie was good, but not as good as I remember it to be at Zoo Rendezvous. I love that they use french vanilla ice cream instead of regular vanilla. It adds a nice, extra-creamy touch. However, this particular one seems like it sat in the window for a hot minute waiting on someone to bring it to me. The brownie was a little stale. I will say that Westy's has an overly extensive menu, with lots of options for whatever you are in the mood for. Some of the sandwiches make me want to come back to try out of curiousity, like the grilled strawberry melt with cream cheese and strawberries or the honey and ham melt. However, since this place is so far out of the way from most of what I do, I can honestly say I will not be back for a while. There are many other places I would rather eat.

I was attending a conference at the nearby convention center and was looking for a late night bite to eat and beer. Westy's was in walking distance and came highly recommended, especially for the vibe and service. The service was awesome! Our server joked around, was attentive and really made the place. Their menu actually has two of EVERYTHING, even a few veggie options. Our table had several different sandwiches, a soup and I had one of the wild rice dishes. Everybody was very satisfied. The buttery rolls were delicious! Great atmosphere and definitely worth a return trip when I'm back at the convention center next year.

UM, are y'all kidding me? On the road, staying in Memphis, and went out for a long run. Hungry and missing the comfort foods of home, I did a yelp search on local restaurants with the word, RICE, in the reviews. Based on the super star write-ups, Westy's came up in the results and I went there with high hopes. In the Pinch District, it seemed kind off the beaten track from the rest of downtown, though, the great thing about this is that by walking in the "other" direction from the hotel, which I hadn't yet done, it forced me to see another area of Memphis. Westy's sits on a corner in an older building. They've been there awhile. Like all the other establishments that I had been to on this trip, the interior was dark and cavernous, yet had a good vibe with serveral parties having dinner and drinks. The trend around here seems to be - getting yourself seated, and waiting for someone to come 'round. This time, though, it took around five minutes for someone to actually come around and say that they noticed me. The server took my drink order, and came back for my food order. Actually, everything came out fairly quickly. I ordered the #15 wild rice (marinated chicken, mushrooms, and broccoli) at $9.95 - with the entree option for the additional charge of $3.95, which also includes bread. The beer (Shiner Bock) was good. The salad, though your typical iceburg/cabbage mix, was good with creamy honey mustard dressing. Coming from someone who cooks regularly, I was severely disappointed. 1. The rice tasted like Uncle Ben's Instant (Parboiled) Rice - and I'm sure that it was; 2. The "marinated chicken" did NOT tast like it's been marinated in anything - much less - marinated in teriyaki and pineapple (which their website actually touts). The chicken tasted dry and plain with not even a hint of flavor (not even salted!), and I'm almost certain that it was the pre-packaged/pre-cooked frozen kind that comes with the grill marks already printed on the chicken. 3. The mushrooms were all uniformly-shaped of the "sliced and canned button variety." 4. The broccoli tasted, and looked like, it came from the freezer section of the local grocery store (uniformly shaped!) 5. The bread, biscuit-like, was REALLY good. It tasted homemade, had a slight honey tinge to it. It actually looked like the tops could have been basted in honey! At appr. $20 for the whole meal, including beer, tax, and tip - with some leftover to take home - I still considered this a bargain, but still not worth the disppointment for me. The BEST things about this meal were - the beer, the bread, and the salad.

This would be a five star rating if we had some decent service. We stopped in Westys for an early supper before a a concert. It was around 4 pm, and there were several couples eating, but it was strangely quiet. No music. We were greeted promptly, but were not informed of any available cocktails or what was on tap. Since there was no drink menu, we just had sodas, and no one ever refilled our drinks. It took 20 minutes for our bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer to come out. Another 30 for our main dishes. Salads were brought at the same time as our entrees. We wanted to try the famous hot fudge pie, but our ticket was brought to us before we were asked if we wanted dessert. So, no drinks, no refills, nonexistent service in a practically empty restaurant. That being said, the food was delicious. But the service was so bad...I don't think we will be back. We felt like we were inconveniencing them by being there.

The Pinch location makes Westy's the eatery closest to the Convention Center, so I accompanied some out-of-towners there for lunch. The place has a lot of character and does a lot to promote Memphis. The lunch menu is pretty comprehensive, and the specials seem to be sandwiches and wild rice dishes. My companions had a wild rice dish, and a chicken sandwich which were good. I had chicken salad sandwich, which I wouldn't recommend, served with tater tots (who could resist tater tots?) The folks around us were raving about the Hot Fudge Pie. I have only been to Westy's for hurry-hurry business lunches. I am going back soon after the rush and get a better feel for the place. In the meantime -it's definitely a recoomendation!

Good food, low prices. I like the tater tots, but I'm not a big fan of the rice dishes. My favorite meal there is the hamburger with a fried egg on top. I never had one before Westy's. I am now a fan for life. It was amazing.

The food was ok. Great waitress that wouldn't let me settle for a grilled chesse sandwhich and soup because there were too many things to choose from off the menu. I had a marinated chicken sandwich and tator tots for dinner and a mojito. If I go back, I'd choose something else to eat. If I want something quick this would be the place.

I stopped in here for a nightcap on my road trip, as it's really the only local watering hole open late during the week that is within reasonable walking distance of the Marriott. The bottled beer selection was good, and service was excellent. Most of the folks around me seemed to be regulars or off-duty employees, and everyone was really friendly. Frankly, Westy's seems like the kind of bar that I would turn into my regular watering hole if I lived in Memphis.

Husband and I were in town for a convention. It was suggested by the Marriott bar tender to go to Westy's for drinks. The people who work here and their regulars truly embody "southern hospitality." Make sure you have "The Reggie Special" and the loaded fries. Honestly - we will never forget the fun we had here. Gina and Eric, you guys are awesome. ... and Reggie - you are one in a million! You made our trip unforgettable.

We got a late start on our 11 hour drive to Memphis from Austin, so all of the restaurants we knew of were closed and the Marriott kitchen was closed. Our hotel concierge recommended Westy's for a late night dinner, and I'm so glad that they did! It was a quick walk to Westy's, and we were greeted by the friendliest, funniest server ever. I asked "should we just sit anywhere?" Without missing a beat, she said "Sure, but if you sit over there, you can sit in my section!" There's no way I'm going to pass up a dining experience with a server who has that kind of fun attitude. When we asked for recommendations, she happily volunteered suggestions regarding what she had enjoyed there, and when we asked what the tamales were stuffed with, she inquired with the kitchen and returned promptly with the answer. I don't remember exactly what they were stuffed with, but there wasn't a bean/cheese vegetarian option on the tamales. We ordered a bottle of red wine and fried corn "off the cob" to start our dinner. I consider myself a great lover of all things corn based, but had never had anything like this. I must learn how to make this and eat it on a regular basis, it was amazing! My companion ordered a wild rice + vegetables dish for dinner and I couldn't decide between the shrimp gumbo and the ribs. So, I ordered both. That gumbo is the best I've tasted this side of New Orleans! The ribs were honest, perfectly seasoned, cooked just the right way and not over sauced. The ribs and the wild rice dish, cole slaw and bbq beans were merely good, while the gumbo was excellent. The honeyed roll that came with my ribs was also very good. Throughout the meal, we admired the charmingly mismatched stained glass lights, the memorabilia and the wide variety of people sharing the restaurant with us. We were going to finish the meal without dessert, but Amy told us it was unlike anything we'd ever had before, so we ordered the hot fudge pie. We promised ourselves we'd just have a bite or two, and ended up eating almost all of it - it was that good. When the check came, I couldn't believe what a bargain our meal was! It was our server though, who made us feel like family while we were there. She was really engaging and fun. The next time we go to Memphis, we're going to call ahead, and if Amy is working, we're heading over for some more gumbo!

We needed a break from BBQ and this place was perfect for that. I had chicken & dumplings with a side of broccoli. My husband had the filet mignon wrapped in bacon sandwich. We both left happy!

I was in town for a local convention (yup, "The King" Jerry Lawler was there, per usual). The concierge at the hotel heartily recommended Westy's, and - had I the authority - I would have sainted him, after dinner. I've always had a fondness for creole, and Westy's just blew me away. I got the Shrimp Creole, Gumbo and Jambalaya along with fried corn and a few sandwiches for the next day... I was literally licking the bowls clean, and had finished the sandwiches before killing my milkshake. My partners in crime also seemed to enjoy their orders, as there wasn't a speck of food left. We had fun at the convention, but I'll always have lasting fond memories of the dinner we had delivered from Westy's.

Great food with a large variety from sandwiches to Cajun. Best chicken dumplings since grandma died. Warm neighborhood atmosphere with courteous staff. You can have a drink if you must. Just two blocks north of the downtown convention center and right on the Main Street trolley system. A must eat location!

Great food. Great service. Good music. I felt like this was not a tourist trap, and actually gives you a real feeling of what Memphis food is all about. Crawfish Gumbo and BBQ is what they do best. Oh yeah, and the ridiculous fudge sundae was, well, ridiculous! It has somewhat of a soul food dive feel, and they do have a full bar. Moderate to inexpensive in price, parking was easy, and we didn't have to wait at all. It wasn't the best barbeque I've ever had, but it was good, and I'd definitely go back!

I came here with a couple of other girls who had just flown into Memphis at around midnight and were hungry! We came from California and Georgia... our server/bartender was so friendly because he loves out of towners! I wish I hadn't forgotten his name. We ordered some gumbo, creole, and appetizers... DELICIOUS! Very very impressed. Their sundae dessert was also to die for. This place truly hit the spot for our first few minutes visiting Tennessee. I would totally come back if I'm ever around the area again :)

You won't believe the menu here. It's the king of bar food. Plus, they have 50 beers to choose from and the desserts are as sweet as fried biscuits and honey.

  • Rae M.

Warning - you will eat too much! The menu is sooo long, and there are sooo many things that you just have to have, that I just had to keep ordering and eating. Poppers, asparagus soup, fried pickles, fudge pie, and then I went back for lunch the next day for more - egg and olive sandwich. I wasn't the biggest fan of the fried corn off the cob, but everything else was great! And the staff was so friendly - excellent Southern hospitality. Definitely a must visit if you find yourself in Memphis.
