This is such a ladies-who-lunch type place, but I have never really had a bad experience here. I definitely forget about the middle of Laurelwood as having a quality restaurant, and this has been around for ages, so something must work! Service is always pretty decent, it's almost never too loud to hold a good conversation with someone, and the brunch offers a very nice selection of favorites (mmmm crabcake benedict!). Lurve the flatbread they bring out.

Haven't been here in years- not sure why. Because it was a nice experience. We ordered the sweet potato humus with pitas that's was excellent, and the pimento cheese as appetizers. Pimento cheese not at all like you would expect but good. The cheese grits, burger, squash soup , caesar salad ordered at our table all good. A nice basket of breads brought to the table The service was very good. Will be back.!!

I always forget about this place. I have been here for brunch a number of times and found it to be a pretty good place. Definitely a fan of the drinks (mimosas and Scarlett O'haras I think?)! One complaint is that the chicken always tastes fishy. Maybe they cook it on the same surface? I don't know how it happens, but I definitely advise to steer clear. The atmosphere in the restaurant is a little stuffy and pretentious. But I am actually a huge fan of the bar area. The bartender is always great and has some interesting recommendations. If you come here, brunch or bar - you can't go wrong.

The SCFT staff had our our end of the year lunch meeting today at the Grove. Our server Darne was on point and was very knowledgeable of the menu. I had the spinach and dried tomato salad with Salmon and it was absolutely delicious. The other staff had the vegetable plate and they indicated that the food was great! Additionally, we tried the pumpkin hummus as a appetizer and I also tried the tomato soup. Again, the chef knocked it out of the park. (I know I went in the wrong order, but I am rushing as usual). Needless to say we will have more staff luncheons at the Grove since it is near the office.

I had a business type dinner here during one of the "close the city down because it's cold in Memphis" nights, the reviews on here weren't too impressive, but my Memphian friends told me that it was good. So I said why not try?! (since work was paying for my meal anyhow) The restaurant was not busy at all, 30 degree weather seems to keep most people at home except for the elderly who decided to brave the weather that night as well. It was easy to make a reservation on OpenTable the night before. We were quickly seated and greeted by our server, and took our drink orders. The Ghost River I requested had been tapped dry, so the bartender personally came by to apologize and I selected a bottled craft beer that they were serving. My friend ordered a Fruit Loop martini, it was quite strong, a very generous pour! For appetizers we had a small portion of calamari that was about par, sweet potato hummus that was unique and delicious, and some delightful fried mushrooms. For my entree, the braised short rib caught my eye immediately and satisfied my belly, I could care less for the risotto or whatever it was that was on the plate. Finished off the meal with a creme brulee which I took home to enjoy. Overall, enjoyed my meal and had a good experience. Would likely venture back in the future, but I still have to make my way towards The Elegant Farmer which I presume to be quite similar, but more 'modern' appearing.

For us, The Grove Grill is a wonderful neighborhood restaurant, and we've almost eaten our way through their menu. The pork chop and the salmon are favorites, and are superb every time. I had the red snapper special the last time, and it was both prepared and presented beautifully. The salads are always a joy and they have some of the biggest oysters on the half shell I've ever seen. If you can't make up your mind, on either food or beverages, the wait staff is most helpful! The chef has a flair for creating delicious soups that I can rarely pass up, and his pickled veggies (done in-house) are wonderful...to say nothing of the praline sweet potatoes, which could just as well be dessert. In short, if you haven't tried The Grove Grill yet, I strongly urge you to; you won't be disappointed.

Grove Grill is tucked away in the back of a shopping center across from the Oak Court Mall on Poplar/Perkins Extd. I went here for a mid-week lunch and enjoyed my experience. The restaurant was very quiet that day--only a handful of tables were full. We had the Fried Green Tomatoes with Hot Pepper Jelly (cut too thick for my taste--but otherwise very good), daily special, which happended to be Honey Chipotle Chicken Quesadilla (delicious especially with the fresh avocadoes on the side), and another special---frittata with jumbo lump crab and avocado topping. The food was delcious, the atmosphere pleasant, and the service was top notch. I'd go back with a bigger appetitie and try their Shrimp & Grits--which is supposedly their signature dish.

I've been visiting the Grove Grill since the 1990s, when I used to work at the boutique next door (now a J. Jill). The restaurant has changed owners sometime in the past several years. The lavasch crackers served before the meal have changed, and are not quite as savory. The caesar salad with fried oysters has found its own place on the menu as the Fried Oyster Caesar, and includes delicious, crisp little croutons made of grits, and larger shavings of mild cheese. Our server was very polite, made good wine pairing suggestions, and actually had great timing with our service ~considering he was high as a kite. Wake-and-bake seems to be the name of the game with more than one of the staff- I noticed another server who had the telltale puffy lower eyelid and looked very sleepy for 11:30 a.m. I'm not complaining in the least, and I don't think any of the middle-aged women in the restaurant could have noticed. I just happen to have an art school education, and that is an "extracurricular" with which I grew familiar. Great prices for the ladies-who-lunch atmosphere (and "ladies who lunch" are probably not the ones referencing Yelp), clean restaurant, polite staff, and the food arrived exactly as ordered. The location is in Laurelwood shopping center, so make a walk to local clothing boutiques or peruse Booksellers at Laurelwood's sale tables in front of the store before or after your meal. The private dining rooms on the side of the restaurant behind the bar are great for a shower or group luncheon!

I had not been to the Grove Grill in a couple of years when I joined a friend there for lunch today. We had the sweet potato hummus and it was EXCELLENT! The pickled carrots were a good addition and there was a nice touch of heat. I had a lunch special of lobster quesadilla. It was a little bland but it came with a nice salad and guacamole. My companion had a vegetable plate - a lot of good choices. We split the grilled asparagus. I think it's some of the best in town. Just plain grilled asparagus - can't beat it! The service was good and friendly. I won't wait 2 years to go back!

Ate here on a Thursday evening, restaurant no where near full at 7:30. Ordered a bottle of wine and then waited nearly 20 minutes for it to appear at the table-- no explanation. Ignored this and moved on, ordering the highly-touted pompano special. Two tough crusty chunks of dried-out fish arrived atop a parsnip puree and some overcooked asparagus in a pool of weird dark brown oversalted liquid. The fish was so dry and crusty that I could not even cut the edges with my knife. Two different servers attended our table of four, one a trainee who was shadowing an "experienced" server. Considering this, one would think the service would have been more attentive.

Grove Grill is one of my favorite lunch spots in Memphis. Whenever my family comes in town we always seem to grab lunch there (usually on Saturday). My favorite thing to get is the fried oyster Caesar! It is delicious. The best part about it is these amazing croutons on it. They are made of grits. I have never had anything like them, but I find myself always asking for them even if I get a different salad. The service is always good too, and the bartender is always very personable and fun. Definitely recommend Grove!!

Very nice restaurant with a good menu, beautiful ambiance & great service. We came here to dine after having some of those yummy oysters at Mortimer's Saturday. (which were tasty enough, but on this occasion, very small) Having had oysters beforehand, we weren't just starving, so my husband and I opted to share one of my most favorite dishes: shrimp & grits. I was happily surprised to see that the kitchen had plated our shared entree on two separate plates as opposed to bringing the one entree with an extra plate. Just a nice little touch and added a little something to the experience. The shrimp & grits themselves were very, very good. Had I not have experienced Sweet Grass' version before, I could say it was excellent. Sweet Grass, however, still reigns supreme when it comes to this dish.

If there had not been a screaming child in my ear for ten minutes, this place would have garnered five stars. I went for Sunday brunch, and Amy M. and I had a superb meal. Our server was delightful, and the food was a bargain. It was hard to choose the main dish because they all were so nicely paired. You gotta try the sweet potato hummus. Da bomb diggity, seriously. The wine list was also nice given the amount of varietals stocked.

Tried the Grove Grill, and I won't be eating there again. $30 for an uninspired, relatively bland meal is ludicrous. The food had potential, but it never achieved it. The creamed oyster and artichoke soup was lukewarm and had a really revolting-looking whole oyster slopping about in it. The tomato-and-chevre quesadillas, likewise, were not hot, and the filling was unevenly distributed, so that one often got a bite of just tortilla or just cheese. The guacamole was old and tasted soapy, the salsa was slimy/grainy like old tomatoes, and the lettuce-bed on which the condiments were served was wilted and browning. Very poor presentation, but it accurately presaged the disappointing food. The sesame flatbread was the best thing brought to the table.

I've eaten here a number of times and the food is always amazing. The shrimp and grits is always on point. The service staff is kind, and knowledgeable. Wow, lots of mixed reviews here on The Grove Grill. I am a bit surprised. I've been quite a few times over the years and I have never had less than great service and wonderful food. Carol M mentioned the Fried Green Tomatoes, so let me start there. Agreed, they are sliced a bit thick, but I like mine that way, so I've been happy with this dish. It's offered as a side, but you can get them for an appetizer as well. The batter is light, not greasy and has a nice flavor and texture. The pepper jelly that they are served with offers a spicy sweetness that I think really complements the tomatoes. They have some very nice entrees on the menu as well. I especially like the Yellow Fin Tuna, which is served with a very tasty lemon grass rice and a mango salsa. It's a small plate option, so if you're really hungry you might be sure and include an extra side or a salad. Additionally, the Crab Cakes are really good and so are the Low Country Shrimp and Grits. Maybe not as good as Owen Brennan's, but they deserve a good strong honorable mention for sure. Not just for dinner, this is a popular spot for power lunches among professionals and a great place for after work drinks as well.

The Grove Grill is our favorite and we eat out a lot! Their raw oysters are the very best in town. The staff is friendly, the service very good and the food is delicious. Their shrimp and grits are great and so are their crab cakes. The soups are always yummy and the salads are an eating experience. Try it, you'll love it too!

Met a friend for brunch Sunday at Grove Grill. It was my first visit. I found the food pretentious and the menu limited in choices and lacking an accurate description of the dish. We might have caught it on a bad week, the server informed us that the menu changes weekly.

You know why I like this place? It's quiet and classy- a great place to catch up with old friends over drinks or enjoy a romantic date night. I haven't had the chance to try much of the menu, although I have dined here for dinner a few times. I've had the yellowfin tuna, which I thought was very good, as well as oysters on the half shell. In my experience, the Grove Grill is a favorite happy hour place for the East Memphis work crowd, as well as a nice option for business dinners. 4 stars from me for stellar ambiance, great food and good service.

Went for lunch today and had the Fried Green Tomatoes with pepper jelly which was okay. I like my tomatoes sliced thin (these were thick slices) and I was not too crazy about the pepper jelly. I guess I must be too much of a redneck to have enjoyed them this way. Like I said, they were okay. However, the Grilled Portabello and Goat Cheese Sandwich is amazing! A co-worker ordered the Shrimp and Grits which she said were awesome too! The service was great and the atmosphere was pleasant. Lunch crowd in this area is heavy so I would recommend getting there early or late.

I've gone to Grove Grill for lunches and it's okay. The menu offers a decent meal for the price. I decided to take friends there after a Mexican place we decided to go to was not open on Sundays...just for something different. The dinner menu was VERY expensive! I had the crab cake "small plate" @ $15.95. When the Grove tells you it is small, you better believe it. It consisted of 1 crab cake with 2 small fried green tomatoes. It took me about 4 bites to finish it off (and I'm a petite female that doesn't eat that much). We had just finished a tennis match so we were pretty casual in dress. The waiter treated us as if we were bums off the street. Some of these snobby waiters and waitresses need to realize that just because someone is not dressed in a suit and tie for dinner that we don't have enough money or we won't tip.

i've been here now 3 times in as many years and it always, always disappoints. I don't give much credit to steaks that are good, so it's all the other stuff that really gains or looses the marks. First, almost every dish is over seasoned, whether it's over salted (common) or just over done with too many ingredients, you take your pick. The latest adventure here resulted in a side dish of turnip greens which were beyond salty. The accompanying potato thingy with my fillet was bland and tasteless, save the wonderful and fragrant flavor of salt, salt, salt. My son had so-called "creamed corn" which was absolutely *not* cream corn -- it was some honey-soaked, salty corn and had absolutely nothing that would perpetrate the name "cream" at all. Dismal. My wife's salmon was, well, fishy and dry, and the risotto was horrible. Almost everything was cold when we got it...terrible. Please note we went on Saturday night, early, and there were not many people in the restaurant. Guess they are smart and most people know to avoid Grove Grill like the plague. This is a high-priced restaurant -- there's many, many better places for less money or the same. When you're paying $25-$35 per on an al-la-carte menu, it better rock and even if the prices were half as much it's still a horrible failure.

Nice place for happy hour wines. Terry is terrific behind the bar. Every small plate we tried was very good, especially shrimp ceviche and gnocchi. Did not think the fried green tomato napolean was worthy of the frugal foodies edition of Memphis Mag.

I meet my Memphis BFF for lunch once a year when I'm in town for Christmas. So the decor is nice, the waitress was coming over and bugging us a lot so I told her - we meet once a year so we usually have a 3 hours lunch so you can take your time we aren't in a rush. She says "okay but we close at 2:30". I wasn't too happy about that since it was just after 1pm. The website didn't say anything about that when we checked but okay. We figure if we are eating you can't put us on the street. So we had two appetizers - the portobello mushrooms and the fried green tomatoes with pepper jelly. Yum, Yum, yum!!! I got the 4 veggies - but they were out of the squash casserole so I was very bummed. Fried okra was dry, sweet potatoes were cold as was the spaghetti squash. The highlight was the spinach and it was fabulous. For dessert I had a chocolate peanut butter pie - tasted like it had come out of the box nothing special. We ended up leaving about about 3:15 and that's why they got the xtra star otherwise it would have be a twofer.

What a wonderful dining experience. The shrimp and grits, fried green tomatoes, and cocktails were simply incredible. I still think about them to this day! Our service was also phenomenal. The grove is a great choice for a romantic date. This will be my first stop when I'm back in Memphis!

Went there with a bunch of folks after an art opening next door, thought the food was amazing. Service was also first class all the way, with a cute waiter as a bonus. It's a bit expensive, but it's fine dining.... I had an killer fish dish (which I'm afraid I don't remember what it was, sorry too many tasty cosmos) and a great desert (some kind of fruit thing)... I ate like a pig and didn't care. Yummy!!!!

We really enjoyed our Monday dinner (this is one of the few first-rate Memphis restaurants open on Monday night) with a party of 6, and my Yelp rating would be 4.5 if it were possible to include fractions. The main room was full, so we could get reservations only in the bar area, but the room was reasonably quiet and quite pleasant, with a half wall between the area with the tables and the bar proper, pretty wall sconces and some nice art. The service was really excellent, with no rushed feeling during our really long meal (about 2-1/2 hours) and a waiter who knew almost everything we asked and went toask the chef about a couple of questions he did not know. We had had cocktails at home, so we tried only one appetizer, the fried green tomatoes with pepper jelly; it was delicious. Everyone really liked their main dishes, including blackened red fish, spare ribs, and a small-plate eaten as a main dish consisting of fried green tomatos and crab with Hollandaise served as a Napoleon. I noticed only later that the restaurant's web page boasts "Home of the best shrimp and grits in Memphis"; I can believe that because that was my dish, and it was extraordinary, a really delicious combination of perfect shrimp, some small sausages cut into bits, some tiny-cut vegetables, a great sauce, rich and meaty but light, and the most wonderful grits of my memory (described as "Mississippi stone ground grits and herb tasso gravy") . Except for the fried tomato Napoleon and the shrimp and grits, most of the menu seemed pretty standard, without unusual ingredients or spices, but everything was really well executed so that it was truly delicious. The wine list was good and reaonably priced, with several good whites under $40. This is a really good restaurant. I believe Memphis friends who rate it among the best 5 in Memphis.

I met a friend here for dinner and decided to sit on the bar side since we weren't that hungry. It was very lively and kinda packed for a Monday night! The bar tables are perfect for a quick dinner or an evening of cocktails and conversation and the menu is the same as the restaurant side. I had one of the evening's specials - arugula salad with goat cheese and grilled peaches, and added grilled chicken - it was delicious. I haven't had a salad that tasty in a long time. I recommend the fig bruschetta as well - talk about flavor! Looking forward to another night at this place, and to trying a full dinner! 4 stars for food taste, presentation, variety and service.

Been some time since we had been but ducked in for an early dinner and were rewarded. Very pleasant interaction with the whole staff. Server was knowledgeable, friendly and experienced. Pimento cheese app was delicious but way to big and filling. Chicken & sausage gumbo is rich, hearty and tasty. Caesar salad had changed since last here but well done. Shrimp and grits always well done and did not disappoint. Vegetable plate medley will definitely do that again.

I have already written a review about this restaurant, but now that my husband and I are living out east, we are PUMPED that we are around the corner from the Grove Grill. We never sit in the dining section, and the reason being is we always want to sit at bar with Leighanna. She is beyond amazing. You leave there feeling like she is family. Next time you're in the area, go see her. I promise you'll leave talking about how sweet she is.

They also have a superb beverage list, they have a wide array of bourbons and whiskeys as well as a great wine list I would definitely stop in and check it out you won't be disappointed.

Best shrimp and grits!!
