I have gotten to the point of nearly acknowledging there is no such thing as great sushi in Memphis. It's a sad realization. And I hope that changes. Pacific Rim may be the best we have in Memphis, but it does not deserve more than 3 stars for its sushi. Sushi is a delicacy. It requires experience and skill to prepare it properly. Sushi is not fried fish wrapped in rice and topped with a mixture of mayonaise and Sriracha (yes, that's what spicy mayo is). Good sushi is raw, and creative, and fresh. I love good sushi. I decided tonight to get what in my opinion were two creative rolls on the menu, the Alli and the Fiesta. Both contained a variety of raw fish (note: the Fiesta is topped with seared albacore). Both had some light sauces. One was sweet, one was spicy. I thought these would make a nice meal. They were both OK. Nothing "WOW" about them, but much better than other Memphis shops. The Alli was supposed to be a mix of spicy crawfish and tuna (note: I did not taste any tuna in this one), avocado, crunches, Thai sauce and shrimp. There was a jalapeno on top of each. I was a bit disappointed in the potency of the sauce, it really overpowered anything else on the roll. I will not get this one again. I don't think there were crunches in the roll either. I didn't look, but I didn't taste them. On a 1-5 scale, it was a 2.5-3.0. The Fiesta seemed interesting. Tuna and avocado, with cilantro, topped with seared Albacore and a sweet chili sauce. I was hoping the sauce and the cilantro would make this roll a hit. It was not. The sauce was not very good. I ended up scraping it off the last half of the roll. The tuna did not have any real flavor to it. Makes me fear it was not fresh. I did not taste any cilantro. On a 1-5 scale, it was a 2.0. Sure, the decor is interesting, and the location is really nice for those of us in East Memphis. But the service is bad. Water glasses sit empty for too long. And to be honest, the place is in need of a facelift. It's looked the same for at least 8 years. It's jut getting a bit rough around the edges. Dirty bathrooms, grungy furniture in places, a tired look overall. Took a really long time to get 4 rolls, as well. It's OK, I guess. Now that I've written this review, I almost want to give it 2 stars, instead of 3. If Yelp had 1/2 stars, this would be a 2.5 star spot.

I have a few sushi snob friends who refuse to eat sushi in Memphis. I agree it can be scary but not at SPR! This is my favorite Sekisui location and not just because it is conveniently located down the street from my house. The decor, in my humble opinion, is the best of the Sekisuis. Then again, I'm a sucker for neon lights, cool lighting and fish tanks. I'll admit the service can be a bit slow but I consider it extra time with my friends. We've been known to frequent this place on girls nights. And the drinks are reasonably priced as are the rolls. They're tasty too!

I have been going to this place for years. I have spend many of my girls nights here laughing and drinking their yummy cocktails. They are decently priced and go down smoothly! I have to say the pineapple martini is my go to drink if I am not in the mood for a Prosecco. Every roll I have tasted here has been delicious and they always have me wanting more! And the prices are good for a sushi restaurant. The service can be slow at times but I love their sushi so much that I tend to look passed that... What can I say I love my sushi!!

Francisco presents an amazing display of fish omakazi. He is.our favorite.chef and a true master if his craft. The best place in Memphis.

Yum, yum, yum! After trying sushi all over the greater Memphis area, this is the winner for me. I cannot speak to the non sushi items, but the sashimi and rolls with raw fish are amazing. I recommend getting the salmon containing rolls, or substituting salmon for tuna (ie spicy salmon). We have taken our young son many times and the wait staff are consistently very accommodating. I can speak to one non sushi item... the teriyaki chicken might as well be chicken fat on skewers. While I understand it is very difficult to overcook chicken thighs, thus making them an easy item for the kitchen you must trim them some.... I would give 4 stars, but the dining room is dated and bit dirty on the edges. The dining room needs a renovation, and the water feature needs to come down or be seriously cleaned.

This used to be my favorite sushi spot in Memphis, however after eating here this past week it has gone down from what it used to be. The sushi is bland. The only roll I liked was the Pacific Rim roll besides that the rest were not good. The old Pacific Rim had flavorful sushi that is why it stuck out from all of the other sushi places. I will say the service was great, along with the inexpensive drink prices! I hope they step their game up again because I love this location and the atmosphere!
(2)Daniel M.
This place has great sushi and an even better house ginger salad. Wonderful meal and tempura cheesecake for dessert. I ordered the cucumber roll and was very pleasantly surprised with the taste and creativity of the roll. I would definitely eat here again.

Sekisui Pacific Rim was chic and cutting-edge when it opened about a decade ago but now when I go there I feel like I should expect the "Night at the Roxbury" guys to come bobbing past me. Does anyone actually enjoy listening to trance/club/whatever that music is while they're trying to eat dinner? Liquor options are limited by the lack of an actual bar, so it's best to stick to wine or sake. There are a lot of creative rolls on the menu, but the sushi is usually just all right, never mind-blowingly good. Two specialty rolls, a seaweed salad and one cocktail ran me (just me) $32. I know Memphis is landlocked so the fish will cost more. But I can spend the same amount on a meal I'll rave about for days at any fine-dining restaurant in town.

I have tried 3 different Sekisui's in Memphis and have been disappointed with all of them. However SPR did have more of a sushi selection on there menu and better quality sushi rolls than the others. Still not as satisfied with the sushi as some other sushi places in Memphis.

What has happened to Pacific Rim in Memphis? Likely our first mistake was NOT sitting at the sushi bar where we have ALWAYS had a positive experience. Tonight we elected to sit at one of the two top tables. After turning it sideways so we didn't have to shout at each other down the length of the table, we were up for a night of good food. Our server was barely friendly.....in an obligatory kind of way. In fact, we commented on the energy in the entire place. Everyone seemed sour, even the customers. My duck breast special was overcooked. The mashed potatoes served with it were disgusting. They were loaded with sugar and they were not orange potatoes but white ones. Four small flowerettes of broccoli adorned the plate along with some fried sweet potatoe strips. The Sashimi Seafood Salad had a shrimp, a piece of octopus, a fake crab stick and a really really thinly sliced and slightly frozen piece of yellowtail. This was all sitting on top of some seaweed with cucumbers underneath. The perceived value was not there. The Pyramid, which has always been our favorite, has lost is wow factor. The presentation was sadly lacking and they now serve it with too much rice and too little fish. What used to be our go to for Japanese fare in Memphis when we are in town has missed it's mark unfortunately. We left feeling sorry for the one friendly person in the entire place--the cute brunette Hostess. She was the only bright spot other than we enjoyed being with ourselves even if the food was sub-par. We will likely try to new Sekisui that is relocating from Humphries Center to Regalia on our next trip to town. Sorry Pacific Rim. Sorry.

Since when was 18% of $15 equal to $5? Since when do restaurants automatically charge gratuity for 2 people? I bought a coupon book that had a sekisui coupon for a buy one lunch entree get another free. The food was average, not too impressed. I didn't bother arguing for the few dollar discrepancy. Without the coupon my meal would have been $30 and the $5 tip would be reasonable. Not sure if this is how restaurants handle things these days but was very shocked that the waitress attempted this method to ensure the tip she would have received if I did not use the coupon. I personally have been a server before and understand that tips are not easy to make. I would have tipped her more than 18% off of $15. Just did not think it was right for the restaurant to claim that it's a 18% tip when it was actually 30%; makes it seem like an underhanded way to handle things. I personally believe that if the party is under 6, there is no need to automatically charge gratuity. Tips are an indication of how good the service is. Do not think I will be coming here again due to how this was handled as well as the fact that the food was not particularly to my liking.

This was my first "sushi" place and still holds a place in my heart. If only for the Volcano Roll. I also love the Philly and the Happy. I usually get the fried tofu as an appetizer. The drinks are pricey, but awesome and the atmosphere is modern and trendy, lots of neon and metal. We've had groups of 12 or more here and they handled it with aplomb. Downside is getting in and out on Poplar and limited parking space, so come early, especially for Happy Hour.
(3)Barrett R.
I preface this review with the following. The ONLY reason I went back to this bad example of anything Asian is because I mistakenly added it to restaurant.com . This decor is like a bad disco in the middle of a strip mall with gruesomely annoying lights. The LOUD music sounds like the techno from the late 1990s from bad clubs in London. Men's room...full of tags and rusted sinks. The dining area is littered with televisions mounted to the walls...EVERYWHERE! The sushi is soooooooo sub-par. Not only are the rolls EXTREMELY sloppily rolled, the soft-shell crab and tempura shrimp were frigid upon arrival. The excuse from the server...the kitchen cooks the hot component and sends immediately to the cold bar. I told her, and I quote,"Someone needs to tell the chef to get his s%$t together." When I tell you that SPR is crap, it is no joke. Save your money, and go to Bluefin.

I agree with the other reviewers here, that this particular Seksui is a bit different than the others around town. I, for one, actually like the slightly hip decor and overall feel of the restaurant. The food is good, especially the sushi. It's always fresh and the presentation is nice. What I don't care that much for is the service. I went with my friend the other night for her birthday, and it took forever to place our order, and my wine glass sat empty for 10 minutes before I could get the attention of the waitress to order another. And they weren't particularly busy. I've been other times when the service was better. It's just a little hit or miss, so be prepared for that if you decide to go.
(3)Elle S.
This place is okay. Sekisui has become a chain restaurant, or it might have been this whole time and I didn't know. Anyway, the sushi is okay, nothing to brag about. I've never had anything amazing here, but it's one of the few sushi places in memphis. It has a really corny 80's looking lighting inside. I would describe it as Meh, but still eat here from time to time.
(3)A W.
This place is in dire need of remodeling. I assume that walls do not absorb sounds, but rather reflect them. This leads to beehive noise inside the place, which spoilt my impression of this establishment. Given the high popularity, it is pivotal to make a reservation. Sushi is mediocre at best. They should learn how to cook rice properly.
(2)Anne H.
This is my easy , convenient, good neighborhood sushi place. The decor is a little techno but nice. I usually make reservations on opentable b/c one Saturday night I had an hour wait. Seaweed salad and the crab salad are good but my ultimate favorite is the redbird roll (I know, its all cooked but it's what I like)! It's open pretty late at night so if you're having a late night sushi craving - this is your spot!

Each Sekisui restaurant in Memphis is slightly different in decor and menu items, though all are owned by Jimmy Ishii. The Germantown one is more Americanized and hyper-clean; Pacific Rim is blue-neon-lit funky with the most expensive menu; the Midtown location is funkier and not terribly clean; and the downtown location looks exactly like the Holiday Inn it resides within, tourist-y and overpriced with the least ambitious menu. Pacific Rim is fine, though its location in a small strip mall on Poplar in East Memphis has always made me wonder at its decor. Who's supposed to be eating in this bar-like setting? Young coworkers from nearby Clark Tower? All the (nonexistent) hip kids who hang out around Target? People who give up halfway when driving downtown from out east? That remains a mystery, but the food is fine, standard sushi fare that draws a crowd at lunch and dinner. Just one thing drives me insane about all Sekisuis: there are TVs everywhere. From each seat, you can watch television with the sound on, which (if you, like me, fail to be a sparkling conversationalist) your tablemates will watch with a half-open mouth. So distracting and obnoxious.

Pricey, but then sushi is one thing that should not be cheap unless you are in Japan, or Okinawa. Nice decor. Decent bathrooms. Not much planning as far as an area for people to wait for seating, though. Their version of fried oysters was not what I was used to/expected, but was surprisingly... excellent. Edamame was good; need a larger serving dish though, to make the empty shells easier to deal with/less messy. No seaweed salad, though (just seaweed). Salmon scallion roll was good. Spicy Tuna Cream Cheese was not spicy (according to my spice-loving companion), and did not seem to work 100% with the cream cheese, but was edible enough. The avocado roll was good, if not a good filler. The smoked salmon sashimi was tasty; one serving was quite a large portion. Drinks were average prices.
(4)Caroline V.
Sekisui PR is where I come basically any time I want sushi -- I have been coming here for years and I trust that I'll get quality sushi any time! Though I agree with some reviewers that the decor appears a little bit dated, I have never had a problem with the food, and I have some serious favorites here. My husband and I could eat three orders of the hot piece of tail between us and feel satisfied. YUM. Tips: Get the hot piece of tail. Sriracha edamame are messy and overwhelmingly spicy - stick to regular edamame. Tempura banana if ya nasty.
(4)Chelsea P.
This is my favorite place for Sushi in Memphis. Osaka gave it a good go, but Sekisui Pacific Rim is the best of the best. Their prices MAY be a bit higher than other places, but I think it's totally worth it. the Earl's Roll and 40 Kel are my favorites. There is another one I cannot remember the name of with little jalepeno slices on the top, YUM! We like to get one (or two) bottles of Nigori to drink while we wait and eat, and they also have Peach jelly sake which is a dream some true and a must try. The service is wonderful EVERY time I have been, everything is kept clean as well. Great music and ambiance. Love.
(5)Ernest P.
Do give this place a try....we had some very delicious nigiri, sashimi and rolls here. For Memphis, the drive down some great historic turn of the century homes was a highlight. But this was the best food we had in Memphis; and we have enjoyed sushi in many states and countries. Avoid Beale street -eat here!
(4)Andy A.
Not a big sushi fan but my son & his GF wanted to go there for his birthday. I was pleased with the ambience & the staff was very welcoming & professional. I opted for the day's special which was fish & chips. Although it was quite different from any fish & chips I've ever had, it was tasty & I would definitely order it again. My dining companions all ate sushi & they were very happy with their choices as well. Lots of food & not too crazy expensive. Good value. If you are hesitant about going to a "sushi place" with a friend or such, don't be afraid of Pacific Rim. You'll be satisfied!
(4)Brittney H.
My husband and I fell in love with sushi here. Mainly because of the awesome house salad filled with crab meat. It's a great date night place! I also love coming here with my girlfriends! :)
(5)Reid R.
The restaurant is dark and loud, but pretty nice. All the staff I met were very friendly and always right there when we needed them! The food was alright-nothing special but not bad either.
(3)Amanda G.
I like Sekisui midtown better (sorry) but they introduced me to the house cucumber roll here, and for that I will be forever grateful.
(4)Joel S.
We are here two nights in a row because we had a friend in town who would only eat sushi. The first time we visited this place months ago it was horrible service but great food. We ended up trying it again after that and we were thoroughly pleased with the service. Our waitress was kind and nice and didn't seem to rush us out at all. We we're very happy with this place:)
(3)Jeff B.
This has been our go to place in Memphis for sushi since coming here almost two years ago. Having had sushi all over the world, and our taste tends to gravitate to omakase. This allows the chef to shine and really show their expertise and design flair. Spr has never disappointed.
(5)Wayne R.
There atmosphere is very modern and stylish. I like the blue lighting, and the multiple fish tanks. Also interesting is their tables. Our waitress was nice, and the food was good. I had the steam dumplings and rice. Next time I will try some sushi!
(4)Luke T.
Meh.. I think the place may have been good once, but it seems run down now. I hate messy restaurants and this one is messy. They simply have things all over the place. I really did not want to see their chopticks and togo boxes stacked in a corner. The sushi bar work area was strewn with tupperware stuff. The sushi is mediocre. I did not have any rolls. So they do have hamachi-kama, which is a good thing. A few types of sake proper, which is also good. But when the nigiri came it was eeeeew. Rice was too hard. Too much vinegar. Tuna, YellowFin, Mackerel and Unagi tasted old. Service was kaput. The server was very abrupt. Almost choked on my sushi, when she came up from behind and ask "EVERYTHING GOOOOOOOD?" I am like.. whoa.. don;t do that.. you scaring the fish outta me.. TWICE she did that..
(2)Jim H.
This was our first visit to SPR. We had tried to come 1 or 2 times before, but kept finding them closed. This time was a Sat at 6:30 pm. It was relatively empty when we arrived, except for the Sushi bar. It did start getting busier around 7pm. I ordered the Ceviche and 50 Kel roll and my wife ordered the Ghandi (veggie) roll and the craw daddy (spicy crawfish) roll. I had gotten hooked on Ceviche in Chile and have been on a quest to find great Ceviche back in the US. This wasn't great, but it was good - using tilapia makes it really mild and while I had to add some salt to enjoy it, it's maybe the best I've found in Memphis so far! This will probably be what I order when I come back. The sushi and veggie rolls were okay. Our waitress was good and had a good sense of humor and wit. I'm sure we'll go back, when I'm in the mood for Ceviche, but for sushi, there are two other places in town that I like a little better.
(3)Steven L.
the ambiance is great. SPR is really a go to place when i need a drink with some friends and simple sushi. I've had alot of their foods and really am not impressed. Coming from someone thats worked as a sushi chef and have had previous restaurant backround, i feel like they've had potential. The menu and food that they list are good but its just the way they make it which is not fond to me. Take for instance the yaki udon i had ordered. I asked for the dish to be spicy and it came out drenched with the Chili Garlic Sauce( cdn2.bigcommerce.com/ser… ). It totally changed the taste to really spicy and sour. is that what yaki udon is supposed to taste like? It should have a kick of spice to it thats all. We ordered some sushi rolls and sashimi which was decent. It just seems like whenever i order from their entree im just a little disappointed. Like i said, the whole concept is there and they've been open quite long enough but my pallets disagree. Too much competition around these days and you just know whats good and whats not. Each Sekisui is a bit different, this is not one of my favorite.
(3)Jason M.
My favorite place in Memphis for great food in a fun, friendly, relaxing, upbeat atmosphere. The el Diablo roll is phenomenal but a bit pricy at around $15 however, the size is larger than an average roll which makes it a geometrical puzzle to eat without the soft shell crab on top falling off. May need to hire a crane service to accomplish this feat. lol! Another favorite roll is the Jacksonville and the raw oysters are some of the best I've had in Memphis. The only thing that sucks is the parking can be limited when it's busy. On a side note, check out the fish that sleeps on it's side, I've never seen a fish lay down to nap before. Cracks me up.
(5)Cara M.
I've eaten here maybe 5 times. The sushi is very good and the menu is creative. The prices are reasonable and the portions are reasonable too. The quality and cut of the fish has been good every time. Also the times I have done carry out, the sushi was just as fresh and pretty as when I dine in. The décor is nothing special, but the place is clean and enjoyable. I think they focus more on the food than atmosphere and that's fine. Sidenote, as Bluefin has declined in quality I've been going here more often and it is now my go-to in Memphis for sushi.
(4)Shannon A.
I've been here twice and the food is OK, the review reflects both of my experiences. Service was subpar and slow, so I called to order takeout recently instead. I was told it would be an hour. For takeout. I was flabbergasted. Needless to say, I won't be back.
(2)Lindsay P.
As a vegetarian, they offer good options with the tofu noodles and veggie rolls. It is pretty vegan/vegetarian friendly and I will continue to come back to this location.
(5)Kyle W.
I drive down Poplar at least 10 times a week, and somehow, I've never noticed this building. Sekisui is located right across from Gigi's on Poplar near Colonial and Perkins, and can be a pain to get to during dinner time. I admit that i was concerned about eating sushi in a state that is at least a one day drive from any significant source of water, but Sekisui soon put that fear to rest. We went on a Friday night, which normally would have guaranteed a long wait, but the yelp page features a reservation application through Open Table. There is a "patio" outside, but unless you ordered a large plate of noise with a side of exhaust, sit inside. The atmosphere is funky; you will feel like you need a glow stick and some trance music to go along with the blue lights. There is a really long bench in the center of the restaurant, which i thought may make me (an admitted advocate of the gigantic personal bubble) uncomfortable, but it is actually quite snug. In addition to the sushi menu, they also have an extensive cocktail list, and a solid list of entrees to choose from. We tried the purple haze beer, which was quite tasty, and an assortment of five rolls, all of which were pretty tasty. We also had an appetizer of fried dumplings, which were not that tasty. I should have gotten a salad. (I don't think I've ever said that before. Nor will I again.) The couple beside us had a lobster appetizer that they said was phenomenal, and the fried cheesecake that is spectacular. Unfortunately, we didn't try either of those, but we will next time.
(4)Karen S.
I've been a fan of Sekisui in Midtown and Sekisui on Humphreys for years. This one - not so much! Spent $120 on dinner that was bland and the lobster dish almost inedible. Not a good experience. Went back a second time thinking maybe they were just having an off night. This time it was just two of us (so we wouldn't waste as much money if it still wasn't good). It;s a good thing we had a git certificate. The food was mediocre at best - not at all what Jimmy Ishi was able to do at the first two Sekisuis in town.
(1)Megan M.
For dinner the other night, a few of us shared a bunch of rolls including the hurricane roll (crawfish/cream cheese/deep fried), popeye roll (lump crab/spinach), house cucumber (crab/ponzu/avocado), redbird roll (crab/shrimp/sweet chili sauce), california roll and some nigri. Our waitress was very friendly but definitely stretched thin. I am assuming it was busier than normal for a Wednesday night (esp. since the weather was nice and the patio was full). However, she did her best. I do frequent SPR since it is the closest sushi place to my house (although, I wish we had more options closer to the East Memphis core). Normally, I get the ocean pyramid (roe, salmon, tuna, whitefish, avocado, rice and ponzu) and their ginger house salad.
(3)Rachel G.
i love SPR, its actually my favorite sushi spot. The atmosphere is nice, very dim lighting, pretty. However every time i go the service is somewhat slow. I know its normally only 2 waitresses or atleast it seems like, but its always slow. Sake is good.
(4)Paulina N.
Service was very slow (but the waiter WAS nice) and the food wasn't all what it was hyped up to be. Everything we ordered tasted the same. The "special" rolls were practically regular rolls! I mean really, where's the creativity? The waiter gave us our check before we could even order dessert. It's ok though because after the meal, i don't think we would've wanted dessert. It was just really disappointing. This place ruined my appetite for sushi in Memphis, period.

Sekisui Pacific Rim has a whole different aestetic from the other Sekisui restaurants in town. You notice it as you enter. From the dance/trance music to the wire artwork pieces on the wall to the giant wall of water dividing the sushi bar from the dining tables, you know this is not like the others. The menu strays away a little from the basic sushi fare. They offer some things with a edgier gourmet kick (ex. crab miso bisque). At lunch, you can get the basics. The lunch special or bento box is a pretty good deal. Soup, salad, roll, and rice. At night, they offer a late night menu. The sushi is half price after a certain time. The sushi roll portions at Pacific Rim seem to be slightly less than at the sister restaurants. Some of the ingredients that are used to make the rolls tend to be more unusual pairings. Service, especially late at night, can be somewhat erratic. If they get really busy, the service can tend to be slower because they have less wait staff scheduled for night shift. Pacific Rim prices are a little pricer that its sister restaurants too. All in all, it's not a bad choice if you want sushi later in the evening. The only downside is there is no defined smoking section and it wafts over to the non-smoking section.

This was my second time at SPR. The first time was many years ago and I barely remember what I ordered the first time I came here. Parking was a bit of a hassle too. I arrived around 8PM and circled the building a few times before I parked next to some terribly parked truck. Good thing my car was tiny. Ambience in the place seemed pretty cool. There was nothing spectacular and I honestly felt the tables were oddly placed. There's a table right next to the entrance all in it's lonesome. Seemed a bit strange to me. The waiting area has what is pretty much a metal bench with pillows on it, similar to what you'd expect in a go-kart. I wanted to sit at the bar but it was full so the hostess told me once it was available I could take it. Once I noticed it was available I stood up and moved on over where there were still the previous couple's ticket and food. No problem there. About 5 minutes later a male greeted us and spoke to one of the waitresses or hostess that we had been sitting there and nobody had picked up the items. Eventually, a girl came and grabbed the ticket and a few cups in front of us but did not say a word to us. Polite much? Eventually, what appeared to be their busman came to clear out our table. Another girl walked by and smiled at us (Yay!) and then eventually the guy who greeted us became our waiter. We got two waters but no straws to go with them. Okay...? No worries! They were behind us next to the waterfall so we just grabbed them ourselves. Pretty much once we finally got our waiter and straws everything else seemed to go smooth. Onwards to the menu! I ordered the 7 piece Nigiri sampler, the philly roll, the 8 samurai, and the "Da Johnny" rolls to share between two people. We enjoyed our sushi and received a good variety of nigiri. The 8 Samurai was probably my favorite, followed by Da Johnny. The 8 Samurai had a very interesting contrast in flavors and nothing really overpowered the other. It had a very nice bite to it and the roll did not fall apart on us while we were eating it. The Philly roll, well... it's a philly roll. Prices were pretty fair and we ended up getting just the right amount of food for two people. BUT I'm not a big fan of the pencil-in-your-order sushi menus, especially when I get the impression that it's a high end Japanese restaurant. Since it was practically my first time here, I didn't know what to order either. I wish there were visuals to accompany the rather interesting variety of maki. I'm also a huge salmon lover and I found their menu was extremely biased towards Tuna and Crawfish. The only raw salmon roll (only*) they had came with chili sauce and I ain't all about salmon and chili. I honestly wish there were more raw maki choices... they have 39 cooked rolls! I was also surprised at all the rolls with crawfish in them. I suppose they're that good if they have so many rolls with it. Definitely a southern thing but I find it is a bit funny for a restaurant that says it has authentic Japanese cuisine. I mean, tortilla chips on the menu? Teriyaki burger? Spicy Lao Larb? Okay... Don't get me wrong, the sushi here was great, the prices are fair, but the menu just didn't capture me. Maybe I will come back and try some of the unique menu options and will be forced to edit my review and rating. But there are a few authentic Japanese restaurants where I live and so I came here with expectations of such. Instead, I think I just left another run-of-the-mill Japanese fusion restaurant. And I'm not a fan of fusion restaurants.

I recently visited SPR for a much needed girl's night dinner with my friend Dani. We ordered dinner, drank wine, and chatted for hours. Sekisui Pacific Rim has the perfect atmosphere for this occasion. The lights are dim. Elegant blue lights decorate the inside. Fish tanks sit on the walls, and calming music plays in the background. It's almost like you are in a swanky spa, but with a menu. We had a certain amount of money we had to spend, so we ordered quite a bit of food. We both started with a house salad, that comes topped with that yummy Japanese dressing. I love Pacific Rim's house salad. Not only is the dressing perfect, but the crunchy noodles on top are a great contrast to the vegetables underneath. After our salads, we split an appetizer of edimame. Sushi has a reputation of filling me up quickly, but leaving me hungry again an hour later. I always counteract this by eating edimame beforehand. Pacific Rim's edimame tastes fresh, crunchy, and perfectly salted. We also split an order of Gyoza, which is "Pan seared pork dumplings with spicy dipping sauce." The dumplings were yummy. They were crunchy on the outside, housing the sweet tender pork on the inside. The sauce was the perfect mixture of syrupy sweet and spicy. After the gyoza, we went for the main attraction. We split four rolls: Memphis Bayou: softshell crawfish and avocado Redbird: crunchy crab, sweet chili sauce, sushi shrimp on top California: crab, masago, avocado, cucumber Rock & Roll: shrimp tempura, crab, masago, avocado, cucumber I'm a bit of a traditionalist when it comes to sushi. My favorite is usually the California roll. This time is no different. However, all of the rolls were delicious. They each had their own characteristics that made them great. They all not only looked beautiful, but tasted fresh too. At this point in the meal, we already had take out boxes to take a lot of the extra food home. However, Dani said their fried cheesecake was amazing. We ordered it. The cheesecake was very rich. I could only take a couple of bites. It was good though. I think I still prefer my cheesecake baked, but this was a nice change. The cheesecake was piping hot, which was perfect for the melting french vanilla ice cream on top. It's also important to note that Pacific Rim has a great wine list. There is something on there for everyone. They have a cute little patio out front as well. I have tried to enjoy it in the past, but it can be noisy. The restaurant is located on Poplar Avenue, so you have to talk a little loud to be heard over traffic sometimes. I think the atmosphere inside is much better. Overall, I highly recommend Sekisui Pacific Rim. They have a great atmosphere for a girls' night or for a date night. I even saw some families enjoying themselves as well.

I think this place is slightly over-rated. I've been to SPR three times, and every time I've gotten sub-par service and the sushi's falling apart before it even gets to my table. They do have some interesting options and they taste delicious...but the service is bad enough to put a damper on things.

Sushi was outstanding. Love the Volcano roll. Even had fun laughing at the TV tuned to "Wipe Out."

I had heard good things about Sekisui, so I thought I'd check this place out the other night. It was a nice night so a friend and I stopped by. It looked amazing and fun from the outside, but we sat outside on the patio. There were other people on the patio and the open sign was lit, so we knew they were open. We sat there for 10 minutes, completely ignored by the server. Another couple showed up and sat at another table outside. The server came out, greeted them and brought them drinks, ignoring us, so we left. Don't bother going.

I like this location at lunch. I get the bento box where you choose one main dish, one side, one roll and soup. It's a great way to get a little taste of everything. I also like the sushi combo lunch special. This location is a little smaller than the others and definitely has a different atmosphere. I have never been here at night but have gone here numerous times for lunch and have not been disappointed. It gets crowded and since it is small, try to go early. The hours are limited 11:30-2:00.

I love Sekisui, but I only like Sekisui Pacific Rim. There are distinct differences in the cuisine, decor and service in SPR, and that has kept me from going back again and again as I do with the other Sekisuis. Yes, the vibe is pretty cool and hip, but I'm with the reviewer that questioned the location with the ambiance of the place. SPR feels like it should be plopped down in the middle of Cooper Young or Overton Square rather than right off of busy Poplar Avenue. When I dined here, they did not have my favorite ginger salad available. I also opted for some noodles rather than my normal sushi. They were good, but I should have stuck with sushi. The service is terribly slow, and our server a bit rude as well.

Honestly, the Sekisui Sushi experience has really gone down. My wife and I went to the Sekisui in Colliervile TN and it was a complete waste of $80.00. The sushi rolls were not prepared roll and they all tasted the same. You couldn't really differentiate the rolls in taste. The waitress was not knowledgable of sushi and couldn't answer my questions. The other Sekisui Pacific Rim location on Poplar is terrible as well. Upon arriving at the restaurant with a group of women employees standing outside of the restaurant taking a smoke break made rude inappropriate comments. The service at Sekisui Pacific Rim is lacking especially if you go late at night with a large party of people. They should have not stopped having a DJ on Friday nights. Honeslty, if you are in Memphis and want a really nice sushi experience visit "DO Sushi" in midtown. Otherwise, Sekisui chalks up to a waste of time and money.
