This place had outstanding service and top quality food. The steak and potatoes are absolutely perfect. Celebrated my fiancés birthday and the staff out did themselves from the card and confetti on the table to the special dessert they prepared. Definitely gets an A+ in my book.

Came here with the fam for our Week of Festivities- Dad's birthday, sister's birthday, and hubby and I's anniversary all within one week. We told them at the desk and they personalized our table for us with two birthday cards, an anniversary card, and confetti saying Happy Birthday and Happy Anniversary. I thought that was incredibly neat, especially since I thought they only did that if you made reservations. Half of us had never been so we took our time looking at the menu (which is a little bit confusing without any dividing lines). Hubby was particularly interested in the Porterhouse for Two, a 40 ounce hunk of meat. If I liked steak, I'd have done it because it's a great deal at $80. However, I rarely like steak so we ended up getting our own things. Most of us got the Ruth Chris Special, which involved an appetizer, a main, a side, and a dessert for around $50-$60. I was immediately attracted to the Thai-Chili Salmon, even though I don't usually like salmon or crab enough to get it in a restaurant. Apparently I've been eating salmon at all the wrong places. That, or thai-chili just really makes everything better! I really loved every part of my meal. I still don't like crab in my sushi but I'd be willing to try it in other things now. I liked my Strawberry salad except for the goat cheese (which I now know to avoid). The lobster bisque had a strange flavor to it. I'm not sure I like it anywhere, but even Dad suggested it tasted different. The sides were ok but they are plain out vegetables with no embellishments, except for the corn. I didn't try much of other people's food as most everyone got steak, but I tried hubby's filet and it was very tasty. I liked the seasoning on it. If you pick the Ruth Chris special you only get one choice of dessert: the Strawberry Shortcake. It's very good and moist. It comes with chocolate truffles which are extremely extremely strong. I loved them but definitely had to eat them with bites of shortcake. My fam weren't fond of them and gave me theirs. If I had had more room in my tummy I would've eaten everyone's but I ran out of space! The only downside of the night was that the sides were cold and my mom and husband's steaks were undercooked. They reheated the steaks and brought new sides, but ironically, the one thing Mom wanted warm, the mashed potatoes, were still cold. All in all, most of us were quite pleased with our food but it was odd that the sides were cold and that they just couldn't seem to get the mashed potatoes warm at all. But they did replace them all so that was pretty cool of them. I'd go back and probably get the same thing I got because it was just that super amazing. Loved: - Baby Spinach, Strawberry, and Goat Cheese Salad (w/o goat cheese) - Bread - Corn (side) - Filet Mignon (medium rare) - Strawberry Shortcake with (Dark) Chocolate Pecan Truffles - Thai-Chili Salmon with Jumbo Lump Crab (FAV) Ok: - Chicken and Andouille Sausage Gumbo - Green Beans (side) - Mashed Potatoes Dislike: - Caesar Salad - Lobster Bisque - Mushrooms (side)

This place serves up a solid meal. I had the filet with mashed potatoes. Sounds simple enough. This place does it well. It is a little pricey for the meal you get, but the quality is there. I doubt I could bring myself to going back very often. But it was a fun time

Our favorite restaurant by far! We love coming to Ruth Chris for our special occasions! Always a great experience!!
(4)Richard W.
My wife and I had a great experience. Sloan took very good care of us and the food was fantastic! The stuffed mushrooms were generous and flavorful. The Chop Salad is a must! Bold flavor for a salad. I had the surf and turf with the filet and my wife had the crab cakes. We both loved our entrees. We ended dinner with the chocolate explosion....so good! Not cheap, but when great service meets great food, it's worth the money.

I took my fiance here for her birthday. The steak was amazing and work every penny. We will certainly go back again. For special occasions this is the place to go.

Caveat: if you eat dinner here, you will spend a lot of money, but my experience has been that it is a fun splurge or a great place to celebrate a special occasion. I grew up in Birmingham and have enjoyed dozens of meals at the location there, and while chains can have their drawbacks, the Memphis location is as lovely as the one I grew up frequenting with my family. The back story of the name of the place is pretty cool too--Ruth was the brains behind the steakhouse she ran with her husband and when they got divorced he wouldn't give her any stake in the business she built, Chris' Steakhouse, so she opened Ruth's Chris Steakhouse and the rest is history. Does anyone know about Chris's Steakhouse? Anyway, enough of the history lesson. Regardless of where Ruth's Chris is located (in a hotel, in a strip mall, free standing), when you walk in it is dark and cozy, and gives an old-fashioned feel. Service is generally over the top in a good way. We went most recently to celebrate some belated birthdays and told the guys to get whatever they wanted. We all started with a round of cocktails, all of which were made with fresh ingredients and delightfully strong (there seem to be a lot of places in town that want to charge $10+ for quite frankly a very weak drink). I had the Raspberry Rosemary Cosmo and it was incredible--a fresh rosemary skewer lined with ripe raspberries floating in a refreshing raspberry puree based cosmo. Another in our party ordered the Cucumber Collins and despite not being a huge fan of gin, I really enjoyed it. She was kind enough to share the crisp clean cucumbers floating in her drink--a real palate cleanser. We ordered the calamari and crab cakes as appetizers to share and both were good though nothing out of the ordinary. What was notable was the bread and perfectly salty butter. Three of us opted for the Ruth's Classic dinner special, which comes with a choice of soup/salad, several entre options, a personal side (a smaller version of their normally enormous sides; for an upcharge you can get the full sized side to share) and a miniature dessert for $43.95. The classic is definitely a cost-effective way to get the most bang for your buck and take in all they have to offer. I had the corn chowder (excellent), an 8 oz impeccable filet, broccoli au gratin (not one on the list but my favorite so worth the upcharge though was a bit underdone), and the peach cheesecake dessert. You know your steak is coming before you see it--the sizzling butter on the 500 degree plate and the rich aroma give it away. I have never had a bad steak here and they consistently cook them perfectly. My husband got the lobster mac and cheese with his steak and it was phenomenal (coming from someone who is rarely wowed by lobster). We learned that two people who order the classic can opt out of the standard peach mini cheesecake and share a full sized dessert. Our friends opted for the bread pudding and I stuck with the peach cheesecake, which was surprisingly tasty. It came garnished with some dark chocolate almond squares, which seemed a bit odd but was nonetheless tasty. One of my very favorite things about going to Ruth's Chris with my family was that my dad would always order a Brandy Alexander for dessert and let us have a sip. We ordered one for my husband's dessert (since he didn't get the classic) and it was just as perfect as I remembered. After the steak, the Brandy Alexander is one of the most delightfully consistently on point items on the menu. Service was sincere and friendly and we had a wonderful evening celebrating with friends. While there are chains you couldn't pay me to set foot in, Ruth's Chris is not one of them--they consistently provide a high quality meal, though unfortunately it comes at a high price so until I hit it big, my petite filets and Brandy Alexanders will remain special occasions. *I have heard they do a special happy hour weeknights with food and drink specials that are $7-8 so maybe I will be back sooner than I thought

Almost as good as it gets. We went for our anniversary. The pre-dinner drinks were great. I find the appetizer choices somewhat boring and dated, so that's a negative for me. But the steaks are great, even coming from PD who says we can make steaks just as good at home but a lot cheaper. The sides were good, we went with the mac & Cheese and the creamed spinach. Dessert too, bread pudding and what I like, fresh berries in cream. Simple, not too filling, not loaded with goo. Great service, no problems, nice table. We really enjoyed ourselves. It is pricey however.

I have eaten at Ruth's Chris several times over the years. I like their food and decor. Their prices are high enough but reasonable for what you get. I decided to treat myself to dinner there for my birthday. It was a mistake. I won't be back any time soon. I was seated within elbow-bumping distance of a noisy group being regaled with stories in colorful language by one of their party who had had too much to drink. I could easily have been seated in their other dining room, which was nearly empty, containing only one other party, with that group talking in soft voices. Presently, a young man approached my table and introduced himself, saying "I'll be helping your server this evening." I wasn't sure what this meant but attempted to give him my cocktail and appetizer order, which he declined to take, explaining that that was for my server to do. When my server appeared, I started to order dinner, and when I asked for a drink, he asked for my ID. I know that is a legal requirement, but he felt compelled to explain that it "kept me safe" (I'm not sure from what). When I started to order my steak, he interrupted to ask how I wanted it cooked, which I was about to tell him anyway, if he hadn't interrupted. Meanwhile, once my Bloody Mary was served, the server's helper strangely removed my wine glass, as if he had decided I couldn't want anything more to drink than my pre-entrée cocktail. When I asked my server why it had been removed, he said "We like to free up a lot of space around here." I told my server I wanted sides of sautéed mushrooms, garlic mashed potatoes, and spinach au gratin, and he started arguing with me about whether I really wanted those or not (because the portions are so generous). I insisted I really did. He finally agreed to bring them to me. Eventually, I asked to be moved away from the noisy table. A manager approached my table and asked how my evening was going. I started to express some of my concerns, and he interrupted and started arguing with me. The restaurant's general manager has since called and attempted to address my concerns. Perhaps I'll try it again eventually. The food is great, but as a fine dining establishment, the place is a joke. It is staffed by kids who have no concept of the nuances of upscale service. I was sorry I went.

Well, this used to be my favorite steakhouse. But it looks like the corporate office has been busy making changes. Smaller sides, and portions, and the quality appears to have been affected on everything except the steaks. Still a good place, but not sure it is up to Ruth's standards.
(4)Tee F.
Ruth's Chris has a really great happy hour menu. The prices were reasonable, service was good, food and drinks very delicious. The bar area was fun and great conversations.
(4)Cornethia J.
My brother and I had dinner here before I left the city! I had the Stuffed Chicken, Creamy Spinach & a few Apple Martinis I must say the atmosphere was very calm, and we were able to enjoy a peaceful dinner. The young woman we had as our waitress was excellent, customer service was great. Please take time to visit if celebrating a special occasion or if you just want to have a nice dinner.
(5)Emily C.
My Mom & I had dinner there last night. Everything was absolutely perfect. There is no greater steak than a filet from Ruth's Chris. Kevin is doing a great job. We are planning to return TONIGHT! The calimari was the best it has ever been. Thank you for an always perfect dining experience!
(5)Paul J.
This Ruth's Chris restored my faith in this restaurant chain. I went for an anniversary dinner and they had a handwritten card and the table decorated with small shimmering decorations with "Happy Anniversary". Before, I've had trouble at these restaurants due to service, looking young really doesn't do anything for you in places like this. However, this specific location did an excellent job. Not only did our waiter look out for us, several other staff members were hunting down empty glasses, bread trays, and finished plates at our table and others. They seemed to have a cohesive team spirit. The salad had good height to it, a smooth dressing, and good fullness of flavor and toppings. It was not stingy in ingredients as many restaurant salads have gone and the fried onions were good contrast. The steak was well cooked and still juicy. I always go for a medium steak because it ensures that it gets heated well, doesn't dry out, and doesn't "moo" on its way to the table.
(4)Emily R.
This is my all time, hands down , go to restaurant for special occasions. I would love to eat here weekly but it's a bit pricey. The atmosphere is warm and romantic. The service is second to none. We shared a ceasar salad. It is easy too do as the salad itself is too big for one person. The waitress kindly and very willingly sit it for us. Then we enjoyed the chicken filled with cheese . I would do anything to get that recipe. It is the best chicken I have ever had anywhere. We also had the sliced potatoes with caramelized onions. You can't have just one, I promise you. It is my birthday so the included a complimentary little almond cheesecake topped with a raspberry coulée and a side of dark chocolate bark with almond slicers. Everything was delisciou a.
(5)Landon B.
Great waitress and service! But I wish they would of told me they smoothered the steak in butter! There slogan should be would you like steak with that 2.5lbs. Of butter. Not worth the $190 we spent on the two of us! That night and the whole next day, i was throwing up everywhere!! Something wasnt handled correctly or was old and served to us! Dont waste your money!!

Well, it is a chain, y'all. But the thing about chains...there's usually something pretty darn good about it to make it popular enough to be a chain. Is this a great place to get a steak? Yeah...But I prefer other places better. I had been on a diet for way too long so my mother and I decided to grab an early dinner after shopping a Oak Hall. We arrived at 4:00 but unfortunately they don't open until 5. I had my heart set on a steak so we waited until the bar opened at 4:30. Well, after the 30 minutes, much to my dismay a steak was not on the bar menu. So I begged and pleaded with the bartender and he agreed to put in a filet...but the sides wouldn't be ready. Fine by me! They have a great happy hour menu with $7 drinks and $7 dishes. Of course, my filet was still $37 with no sides and my 2 proseccos weren't on the happy hour list so $11 each...and I just don't think they were worth the money. They were good...but not that good. And the atmosphere doesn't warrant that type of price. But my mom's steak salad for $7 and $7 mojito? Definitely worth the money.

Anniversary dinner. First time trying the place and it wasn't so great. Service was excellent but food was not that special for the price I paid. Full course described. -Calamari was excellent! Chop salad was okay. I wanted to try a salad with a different taste. Next time I know choose a classic Caesar. -surf and turf was juicy and tender. Flavor was there but I've tasted better. - stuffed chicken needs to avoided! Not worth the money: taste was plan and way to much butter. - complimentary dessert was given but it was not so satisfying. Overall experience was excellent but food was not quality like I would imagined. Service was excellent.

Whenever I think of a special restaurant, Ruth's Chris is the first that comes to mind. From the minute you walk in, they treat you like a special guest! The lobster bisque is a creamy perfection and leaves enough room for the next course. Our family favorite is the petite filet and my personal choice are their crab cakes. They come sizzling on the heated plate and just fall apart--all lump crab meat. Yummmm!

My wife and I were here on Sunday evening for our one year wedding anniversary. I made the anniversary well in advance online. I told them that it was our anniversary and they had some favors on the table for us which was a nice touch. (See pics below.) We started our evening with a couple of glasses of Prosecco sparkling wine and crab stuffed mushrooms. The mushrooms were absolutely wonderful. My wife ordered for her main course, the petite filet and shrimp, which she loved. We shared sauteed mushrooms and mashed potatoes. The presentation was great and who can't love the sizzle of the meat and butter on the plate. I decided on the cowboy ribeye. My steak was cooked a perfect rare. For dessert, my wife wanted Crème brûlée. Since the restaurant knew the occasion, the took the liberty of decorating our plate with "Happy First Wedding Anniversary". We loved this personal touch. All of the food was spectacular and the service was top notch. Everything was as we expected or better. Obviously, you know coming that the bill will be north of $100 for two people so please don't negatively review the place for that. The ambiance is great and we will definitely be back. We plan on making this a yearly tradition unless we are out of town. Thanks Ruth's Chris for the great experience!!

I brought my sister in law here.. everything was fantastic from start to finish. I would definitely go eat here again.
(5)Monte M.
Just can't say enough good stuff here. Made reservations on the same day for a table that night. It was our anniversary so I made mention of it. They had a personal card on our table. Rose petals, candle lit table. Jamie was a fantastic waiter. He gave us tips. We went for the filet naturally. Wife got petite, I got the bone-in 16oz. They were absolutely melt in your mouth good. The pecan crusted sweet potato casserole was fabulous. Even a complimentary dessert with happy anniversary written on the plate. You know the prices before you come, so if you go...enjoy!
(5)S T.
Had a business dinner here and enjoyed a glass of wine. Good food but ridiculously overpriced and oversized. At least they have a nice ambiance and dim lighting to make it feel more upscale and secluded. The lobster mac and cheese had a decent amount of lobster on top, but was lacking cheese. My mates said their steaks were nice, my lobster was pretty tasty too. This is the place to go when you aren't paying the tab ;)
(4)David D.
Pre Valentines Day disaster Appetizer Lobster bisque and crabtini were both good Main Wife and I both had 11oz filet ( medium) Hers came out well done, mine nice pink, Both were like chewing on a baseball glove Toughest filet, better yet steak I have put in my mouth. I expected much better regardless of cost but at $45.00 for a steak, ridiculous. Sides were again good, baked potato and mashed potato Best part of the meal was the bread, butter and wife's Long Island tea. My unsweetened tea was the norm. Dessert- service was so lacking as much or worse than the food, we opted out, paid and chalk Ruth Chris off the list.
(1)Jenny C.
Honestly, the 4 stars is more for the service than for the food. Our waitress Lela was great!! Very thoughtful and just the right amount of attentiveness. We had the onion rings for appetizer (oh my vice...fried goodness!!) and shared 2 special meals. One of the artichoke & asparagus salad, 6oz filet w shrimp, brussel sprouts; the other with gumbo, hong kong style sea bass, mashed potatos. The salad was good and the kitchen was nice enough to split it into 3 plates for us. Gumbo was just ok. Really liked the brussel sprouts tho it was a bit on the too buttery side, but the texture & flavor was right on. I prefer chunky mashed potatoes with skin so ruth's chris' super mashed/creamy version wasn't my thing. The filet was just ok, I've had better homecooked ones. Tho it tastes really good with the shrimp and a sip of malbec wine. The sea bass is pretty good tho both mom and I agree that Asian palace (new Asia?)s steamed fish tastes better (tho I think it's a diff type of fish) We had cheesecake for dessert, I subbed one for espresso. The cheesecake was really good but the pieces of chocolates that came w it were a bit hard to bite off. I prolly won't voluntarily go back tho, but that's just coz I'm not a steak person and it's hella expensive.

Ruth Chris is a good steakhouse. We battle over this one in our house- my favorite is Folk's Folly, my husband's favorite is Ruth Chris. My favorite thing about Ruth Chris is the signature sizzling noise the steaks make when they come out of the kitchen. The butter sizzles on your plate and even cooks the meat a little more. I recommend ordering it one category lower because it does cook on your plate. If you normally like it medium you may want to order it medium rare. Oh, the smell of sizzling steak- yum. It makes me want to go as I write this! Since this is my husbands favorite steak house in town, his special occasions are at Ruth Chris. He loves to start with a good hearty glass of Cabernet. He likes the harvest salad which has corn, goat cheese and Cajun pecans- just the right mixture of greens with a little spice. He likes the fillet cut because it is so tender. For desert, it's the caramelized banana cream pie- delicious every time. The service is excellent and the cut of meat is always great. The wine list is also one of the best in town. If you want a guaranteed fine dining steak meal this is the place to go. The bar area is also nice and spacious. It's a great spot for a relaxing cocktail and appetizer.
(4)Katie K.
I like Ruth's Chris and they probably have the sweetest waiters i have come across fine dining. I have a three year old sister and at the time of her being two you can imagine taking her to dinner they did not complain and tried to make her laugh. The only problem I have is they always overcook my steak but besides that you cant go wrong at Ruth's Chris
(3)Allyn B.
Really good steak and the waiter was awesome! Side dishes are great as well!!
(4)Adam S.
I had a great meal here with a friend in May. The meat is truly delicious and the quality is truly unparalleled. Service was a bit too quick but in fairness we were eating quite late in the evening. I would say that I was disappointed that we were not seated in the main dining room area which looked quite nice rather we were seated in what I believe was a space they use for events which was a bit dinky.
(4)Stephanie C.
I want to copy and paste Deen W's review, however, I'm sure that'd be considered super lazy, but she nailed it, so read her review as well! I will just say this place is amazing. Typically I'm not one for chains, but this place has steak down to an art. It's not the kind of place I would go to often, because it's definitely not the cheapest. However, the happy hour at the bar can't be beat. Seven dollar small plates that you can make a dinner out of, and wine specials to go along with it. We tried the spicy lobster and the tenderloin bites, and let me tell you, they were declicious, and that's an uderstatement. The tenderloin bites were served on two skewers, with maybe two bites on each, so don't plan on being stuffed, but I can promise it will be two of the happiest bites of your life. We've made several attempts to go back and try some of the other items, but the bar fills up quickly, so my advice - go early (just save us some seats!). Happy Hour is Monday - Friday 4-6:30, and only at the bar.
(5)Jeremy L.
Best customer service I've had in this city. Good job on that! Really enjoyed the speciality drink I had. The food... So yummy.
(4)Joy C.
HAPPY HOUR TIME AND PRICES!!!!!!! Met the girls for happy hour, and about the 2nd drink in, things were pretty HAPPY! My friends mom and 2 other family members apps were cold, had to return them, but other than that I cant complain. The fried lobster was to die for and for 7 dollars, I will return. Don't eat red meat, so this was a good compliment to their hefty steak menu!!!
(3)Tom G.
I've had an unused gift card for here forever. Finally used it Sunday night. It was OK, not a 5*. If I'd paid for it in lieu of a gift card, would have much rather preferred Folks Folly. Combo dinner, salad, filet & desert. Service was pretty good, although confusing at the end. Problem was, medium well steak was 100% well done. Tasted good, too hungry to send back, but definitely well done. Desert was so small I could have eaten it in 2 bites. Oh well, lesson learned, next time, pay for it vs. a gift card, and, go to Folks Folly.
(3)Elle S.
We went here for happy hour at the bar, it was packed by 5. We got shrimp and tuna appetizers and they were delicious! Dip the bread in the shrimp sauce... Amazeballs!
(4)Christan H.
I don't usually go for chain restaurants but this one is really good. You can't beat the service. Compared to the other "upscale" chains in the area, this is my favorite. I've never had a steak here that wasn't cooked perfectly and the service is always fantastic.
(5)Emily Y.
Sizzle, swizzle, and swirl, I love you! Partook in the $7 happy hour menu which is offered until 6:30 on Mondays thru Thursdays. Excellent all the way around. I ordered the steak tidbit sandwich while my husband ordered the burger. Both came with fries. Bartenders were friendly and attentive and we enjoyed chatting with those sitting near us. Can't wait to do this again!
(5)Debby R.
The service is spectacular, the food is to die for, with a remarkable wine selection. Much preferred over their competition across the street.
(5)Jeremy T.
The best steak I've tasted. Hands down. Service is awesome. Food is wonderful. Drinks are great. Atmosphere is great. You'll love it. Well worth every penny.
(5)Casey B.
This is my go to spot. Food and service are both consistently great. Yes it's expensive but you get what you pay for.
(5)Daniel H.
Best filet in town! Quinton was our server tonight. He did a great job suggesting wine to pair with our steaks. We had the veal ravioli for a starter and it was fantastic. The sauce and spinach that came with complemented the veal perfectly. For entrees we both had filets medium rare. They were both cooked perfectly. For a side we shared the creamed spinach. If you haven't had Ruth's Chris' creamed spinach you are missing out. For dessert I had the bread pudding and my wife had the apple crisp. Both were great.
(5)Katie D.
OMG. I've had steak at many different places, but this is easily my favourite place. I don't even care about the butter (okay that's a lie, but I'm just saying that's not why I love the steak), the steak itself is just so amazingly tender and flavourful. It's proof that you don't need to add a bunch of spices, rubs, and marinades to a steak for it to taste good. If you start with a good cut of meat, age it well, season a little, and cook it properly, it'll be delicious enough as it is. Putting teriyaki or cajun spices on this would just ruin it. Plus the meats come on sizzling plates. They're so yummy they're meant to be savoured, and since the plate's hot, your meat stays hotter longer, so you can eat a little slower but still have hot food. So yeah, I think this place is worth it. As for the prices, yes it's expensive. I get the petite filet (the regular filet is way too big and unless you were planning to take some home or split with someone, or maybe if you hadn't eaten in days, there's no way you'll finish it all) and it's great. Honestly the best steak I've ever had, and I've been to a lot of steakhouses. The sides are expensive but they're sized to be shared by 2-3 people, so keep that in mind. And once I get done eating my petite filet and half a side, I don't have room for anything else. I've never tried any of their desserts or appetizers. All I've ever tried is their soups. That being said though, their soups are phenomenal. They have French onion soup (amazing) and lobster bisque (delicious). You're in for a treat with whichever one you pick, and if you're like me and you like both, I'm sorry. If I have enough room to order soup here, I always have a hard time picking which one to order because they're both so good. The service? It's amazing, yes. But frankly it's the kind of service I expect at a place like this. They're very attentive. I'll put empty packets of sweetener on the table after fixing my tea, and they won't be on the table for more than two seconds before someone (usually not even my waiter) comes and sweeps them up without me even noticing.
(5)Mark B.
This is the best high-end Steakhouse chain out there. The steaks were cooked to perfection and sides were large and prepared with the attention they deserve. The bananas foster was perfect and spooned over ice cream that had just come out of the freezer so it wasn't a melted mess. Can't wait to go back.
(4)A L.
Most consistent high quality steak bar none. Excellent wines, great comfy bar area with booths and 99% of the time great service. Sweet potato casserole is to die for. My only regret about this place is being treated like a a stranger every time I go there, which I don't like. For bringing business dinners and just love going here I would expect more personable treatment.
(4)Geno D.
First and foremost, This is my favorite restaurant. Now to my review. The steaks and food in General is always excellent, hot, & tasty! The service is usually great. The atmosphere is is wonderful. I have been so many times and I'm still not bored with the food or service. From time to time cause of the restaurant's excellent reputation, you will see someone famous. Such good food should be sinful but it not. Healthy choices plus great deserts. Bartenders could use a heavier hand for the most part. It is preferred that you have a reservation but some nights it's not necessary. I recommend that you try this place and not just for a special occasion. The price is worth the taste!
(5)Barry W.
We had a business dinner here... the food and service was great! In my opinion, the room was either to dark for business or to congested (tables to close together) for romance - They need to go one way or the other. I admit we were in the corner and the rest of the room seemed lighter but all four of us complained about not being able to read the menu. With that said - The steak was the best I have had in the city, BUT I have had better in other establishments outside the city of Memphis. I would recommend for anyone looking for a "special meal"

We were in Memphis to (of course) visit Graceland last Christmas and decided to try Ruth's Chris Steakhouse, even though the one in Atlanta is absolutely horrible. Let me tell you what a difference a couple hundred miles and a different atmosphere can make.. The salmon was soooo good, I told my husband that if I knew I was about to have my last meal on earth, I would want that salmon again! I don't know what they do different in Memphis, but I hope they keep doing it! The cooks in Memphis really know their stuff..

This review is for the $7 happy hour menu. It ROCKS. I know the purpose is to drive people in to the bar. So buy a cocktail, nurse it (or not, if you're so inclined), and take advantage of the $7 happy hour menu that you can make a dinner out of. Well, SOME of the items you can make a dinner out of. My husband brought me home spicy lobster tonight. Absolutely DELICIOUS, but more like an appetizer. (A scrumpdiddlyumptious appetizer) He tried the sliders for the first time tonight and was in slider heaven. The lobster rolls aren't available in our market area (gosh doggit), but for a meal, I would choose the steak sandwich. It comes with fries and bearnaise sauce. I love bearnaise sauce. Put a little on the sandwich and dip your fries in the rest. Heaven. I am vying for a date night at the Ruth's Chris bar....we might have to eat early, but to be able to dress up, go out to dinner at a nice place like Ruth's Chris, and come out for less than $50 is my idea of a night done right.

We love Ruth's Chris...but with all the other A+ options on the same street (Flemings, Capital Grille...and Folk's Folly a little bit down the road)....I think we will chose something else next time after our recent experience. Our child left an old iPod touch (but very special to her) on the table...we called no more than 5 minutes after we left, and they claim they did not have it!!! SAY IT ISN'T SO!!! And when we call they just think we lost it or it is in the linens!!!! Sadly, we know the truth but they can't see it. We had a $400 meal for 4 of us and they offered no sympathy nor did they even ask questions that would indicate they cared if someone was stealing!! So we believe it was an internal PROBLEM OF STEALING FROM THEIR GUESTS....See ya later Ruth!!! All we have to do is go across the street for some honest service.

Meh! Seriously overrated and price gouging to boot. I enjoy a pricey establishment, but this takes the cake (corporate exec world traveler here). Their bar menu/prices are a joke (not the servers). A bunch of crappy over-priced regional craft beers (Stone, Ghost, Yazoo...ewww) instead of quality crafts (Widmer, New Belgian, Sam Adams) or global specialty beers (Chimay, etc). They wanted to charge me $22 for a single serving of Macallan 12! Is it poured down the chest of an exotic dancer into a snifter? It's an 8 or 9 buck standard scotch whiskey every else on the same street. Plus, the average retail cost of a bottle (750 ml) of Macallan 12 is $50. So you want to recoup more than your cost on less than 3 ounces? Is that my check or date rape? Shameful. Management should be publicly flogged.

Let me start by saying the food is amazing. Well seasoned and prepared perfect (once the waiter gets the order right ) My review is based on service. From the beginning the waitress was screwing up. She didn't understand the menu and talking over us as we were asking questions. They have some sort of meal deal on the menu. For 50 bucks you get lobster, steak, shrimp, a side, salad, and desert. Then the next pg just a steak for 39 bucks. So we thought that was a little odd and inquired about it. She says no that's wrong, it doesn't come with all that. Then she starts fanning herself and excuses herself as we are ordering. We ask someone else about the meal deal and says its correct. Great now we can order! Our waitress comes back and I ask for it medium well. The food finally comes out and I swear my steak had a heart beat. It was way to RAW, blood was clearly on my plate. So I ask for it medium rare. The waitress picks up my fork off my plate, stabs the steak and puts it on a used bread plate. Lucky for her the bread plate was mine though she didn't know this. I wanted to flip out bc normally you take the whole meal back. It's like, don't pick on my plate and start moving my food around like that. She had no common sense and for a fancy smancy restaurant I expect the best. This was ridiculous and to make matters worst, they bring the same steak back. At the end, when its tip time she apologizes and says she's not feeling well. Listen, I really don't care about your son stories, do your job or go home!

While I felt the service was very good, the food was very disappointing. Especially considering the prices. The portions were small and presented without any creativity. The bread was so pedestrian at best, felt like it was purchased from the local grocery store, frozen, thawed, heated and served. I would not recommend this restaurant and will certainly not visit again.

My husband and I dined here for our anniversary on a Monday night the day before New Years Eve. We made a reservation online the day of and noted that it was our anniversary. I would recommend doing this because they had a special table ready for us- very nice touch. Our server, Linda was friendly, professional, and made for a very enjoyable experience. The restaurant is great for a romantic evening. The layout yields enough privacy so you don't feel you are sharing your dinner with the table next to you. It's quiet, dim lighting, white tablecloths. Very nice. Now, the food.. I don't eat seafood so I ordered a side of tempura onion rings for an appetizer. They were yummy but a tad greasy. This wouldn't have bothered me, but with the extremely buttery steak and fried lyonnaise potatoes, it was just too much. We both had the ribeye cooked perfectly medium rare. My husband, who is a former employee, explained the 500 degree broiler technique they use to cook the steaks. It leaves the outside seared and crisp, but the inside pink and tender. I love this technique! However, they put ALOT of butter on the steak. My husband prefers this, but I do not. It's just too rich for me. There were no sides that got me excited, so I didn't order any for myself. For dessert, they brought us a complementary tray of mini flourless cakes, berries and cream, and ice cream. Such a nice surprise! All of it was delicious, especially the berries and cream. The waitress then took our picture and printed it out for us to take home. I would definitely choose to return for a special occasion if this is how I'm treated each time. Food wise, I prefer other steakhouses, but couldn't beat the experience here.

I made the reservation online which was super easy and the purpose of the dinner was for my mothers birthday so I made a comment with the reservation about this occasion. When we arrived and checked in for our reservation, the hostess wished my mother a happy birthday, as did the manager. Our table was already prepared and had been decorated with small confetti "Happy Birthdays." The wait staff was excellent, our primary server was Chris, no relation to Ruth... My girlfriends steak wasn't cooked to her liking and they took every possible step to make sure she was happy. This involved a steep discount on our bill and a free dessert. They were perfect about turning a slightly dissatisfied customer into an overwhelmingly satisfied one. Great job to make it a very enjoyable evening!

The food was excellent and the service was fantastic! This rating is for the Memphis, TN location. Prices as of 4/21/12: Mushroom stuffed w/crabmeat: $12.00, Filet mignon $38.00, sweet potato casserole $8.00 and Broccoli Au Gratin $8.50. Everything was brought to the table nice and hot. With the 9.25% tax, the total bill was $72.65 (then there was the tip after that price). I had water and not the wines. Very nice atmosphere and very clean place. I'd recommend this place in a heart beat!

Butter. On a steak. Mmmmm....my mouth waters just thinking about this place. When I first heard that Ruth's Chris serves their steaks with melted butter I couldn't help but start trying to mentally calculate what that would add in calories and fat content. Then I realized, hey, you only live once...and not long if you dine like this every day. BUT, since we hit RC on special occasions, I just make sure to do an extra mile or two on the treadmill as restitution. My mom and I ate here for her birthday and were able to hit it at a time that they had their "sweetheart special"...two complete meals for $90, which was worth every penny! The service was great, and when it came time for dessert and we claimed to be too full for the cheesecake, etc..the server offered to see about just getting us a bowl of fruit (fresh strawberries and raspberries). BONUS! Splurge away, my friends, you won't be sorry!

If you want to dine at Ruth's Chris, you better make reservations. The place stays busy, with good reason. Known as one of the best steakhouses in town, if not THE best (I'm actually with Missy- I prefer Folk's Folly), Ruth's Chris offers a number of top cuts of meat that are simply mouthwatering. Sides are extra, and they offer a variety of them, along with salads, bread, veggies, and more. Very pricey, at least in my opinion, but definitely worth the splurge for special occasions.

While I usually have the beef at a Ruth's ChrisSteak House, this time I had the Grilled Wild Salmon. Very good! The sides, creamed spinach, sauteed spinach and asparagus were as they always are huge and tasty. Service was efficient and helpful. I've never had a bad experirnce at a Ruth's Chris location and this one was no different.

My wife and I went here as our first time together, and needless to say it was not the best experience. I'm pretty critical of places that charge 5-star prices. First, of all we were pretty tired after a long day and had a gift card so we wanted to treat ourselves to some good food. Our waiter was very nice, but when we stated it was our first visit, we got a 5 minute history lesson on Ruth Chris...we were not interested to hear this at all, but we had no choice and he was so elegantly reciting his obviously memorized history lesson to I guess impress us. Not impressed just bring the food. My wife and I both had steak. I had the rib eye which was ok, I could have definitely pulled off the same steak in my kitchen minus their awesome 500 degree plate that they kept talking about, like every top shelf steak house does. I do not know why the plate thing was such a big deal, they tell me it's a hot plate when I go to Mexican all the time, but I digress. My wife had the filet which was very good. We ordered creamed spinach which came out cold, but we didn't say anything in fear we might have to hear another history lesson or listen to the myriad of apologies. We also had calamari as an appetizer, if we would've paid closer attention to the menu we wouldn't have gotten this since it was covered in this jelly like flavor stuff on top of the calamari. Oh well that's not their fault on that one. Overall I'm pretty much done with Ruth Chris. There is too many other classy steak joints that are perfect from the time you walk in to the time you walk out. Not to mention if you're going to charge this much for food you absolutely have to be perfect, I mean it's your craft. Luckily we did have a gift card so it wasn't our hard earned money wasted on this experience.

A ruined evening.... I tried to celebrate Valentine's the weekend before (which i'm sure many others also did), but this experience was not their best. I've been to this location in the past, and never had a bad experience. This time however, it really leaves me questioning if I should return. If you are paying over $50/ head for a meal, the service NEEDS to be on point. It wasn't. Our server, David, decided he was going to take a number of tables orders by memory.... he didn't manage to get this spot on. While he offered to have the kitchen then cook the additional forgotten items, I wasn't trying eat them after I'd finished my steak. I applaud him for asking, but I was not interested in waiting while the rest of my food cooled. The bread was cold... can't remember if its always been that way, but I was expecting it to be moderately warm, and not easily confused as a suitable replacement for a door stop. To make matters worse, the Shoestring fries came to the table with a little more than we envisioned. Attached to our dish was a hairnet... clearly overlooked as the items were plated and sent out from the kitchen. I expected better from a place that has a "fine dining" reputation. The manager did come over to apologize, and I believe that he did what was expected of him. He comped out meal $25 and gave us free dessert, since neither of us wanted to eat any more after our discovery. While i feel that he could have done better, I will still give him points for his sincerity and giving us some discount. In the end, what was planned to be special evening, turned into a big disappointment. I'm not sure when I will be returning.

Tuesday night celebrated a friends birthday. They greeted us well, changed the chairs to arm chairs per our instructions, had birthday confetti on the table ,but ....,, our waitress disappeared most of the night. I had to ask for my check. It just was not the usual great steakhouse. The Shafer merlot was 114 which is pricey for a 54 dollar per bottle wine at the local store. The sweet potato casserole was great. Steak cooked as requested was above average but not worth the price. Asparagus we requested grilled and they were awful. Overall a 400 tab for four. For the price, I left feeling it was just too high. Will I return? When business requires a steakhouse yea for a birthday dinner maybe, for a night out.....no!

I have to write that, while I've been laying off of steak, fear not, not meat-eaters, the salads are friggin' incredible. Seriously. They have that awesome wedge o' iceberg lettuce salad with the dressing on it. Amazing. Or the caesar. I would pay a fee of a small golden briquette for one of those in my lap right about now. And the desserts. Oh me oh my, a long time ago I had the bread pudding and had a bite of my husband's banana cream pie and it was worth a special trip to a special restaurant. My point -- give it a try, meat eater or not.

I don't get it. Tried it 3 times and threw in the towel. Do people just pretend to like this place because others like it? Or is it the placebo effect? (They hear it is good so they think it is good.) Most tasteless steak you will find for the price. Tough and tasteless. Side dishes are pretty good though and the bread pudding is excellent. If you want to pay top dollar for a mediocre steak so you can tell your co-workers you ate there, knock yourself out.

... yet another average prime steakhouse in Memphis, where I could go to eat appetisers and dessert. Mushrooms stuffed with crabmeat were amazing: rich, yet light. Steakhouse salad was all right. Fillet mignon was overcooked, my husbands steak was nicely prepared. Side dishes (creamed spinach and fresh asparagus) were all right. Bread pudding in whiskey sauce was absolutely great.

Wanna spend 100 bucks on a steak? 50 bucks on a baked potato? Here is your place! Service was amazing, bordering on cult like attentiveness. Food was also really good, here is were you take your prom date I guess... just save your pennies. Despite the cost I have to say, it's the best steak I have ever had. They also have quite the wine seller, really good side dishes... and they take credit cards and small children as payment. Just kidding.

Ruth's Chris does the best job of any of the National steak houses in Memphis. Flemings and Capital Grill are both close by, and after eating at each several times it is: 1. Ruth Chris 2. Fleming's 3. Capital Grill - a distant 3rd. Ruth Chris always cooks the steaks to the requested temperature and their meat is consistently great. Cut to the appropriate thickness.
