Very mixed review here. I'll start with the positives. The decor is very nice. The prices are about what you would expect and the service is usually pretty good. That is until tonight. I've been here about a half dozen times and never had an issue. I ordered a beef rice bowl tonight, which I've never had here, and specifically requested "no onions." All the food comes and of course mine is loaded with onions. No problem they will take care of it. Well when it comes back out, I just did not like it at all. I tried to like it, but there was no seasoning on the meat and it was just as bland as a sheet of looseleaf paper. I told the waitress and she went and got someone else. This woman tells me that they can not take it off my bill because I ate it. I ate all of 3 bites on this thing. I said that was just ridiculous and asked for the manager. "I'm the manager and I can't take it off your bill because you ate it". Hello, I didn't eat the dang thing, I just took a couple of bites. After going back and forth I said the hell with it, just bring me my check. She came back and said just this one time they would take it off. What crappy service. God forbid you don't like something here. Be sure not to taste it - just look at it and decide if you like it or not. It's a real shame because everything else I've had here has been great. Don't know if I'll go back.

My friend and I had the crunchy shrimp roll, an order of chicken fried rice, clear soup, and house salads. The sushi was excellent. Soup and salads were very good. However, the chicken fried rice lacked flavor. We both had diet cokes which tasted funny. The service was not great. It took a long time to get our check. We had to hunt down the waiter to ask for it. He then served two more tables before giving me the check.

Yum, delicious! Dropped by for a quick bite and we were very pleasantly surprised. The Red Devil Roll was amazing and my daughter deemed the California roll "the best she has ever had". The tempura ice cream was good, it could have been crisper. The decor is cool, there seemed to only be one hibachi table and I personally like smaller "hole in the wall" placed but the food was very good. We will be back!

Great food! Arrived with 4 friends. Had a selection of appetizers, and all were fantastic. A couple of my friends said that this was the best sushi that they had ever had. (I have lived in California -- it was not as good as it gets, however, this might be the best in Memphis!) Ordered several rolls, everyone at the table was delighted with them. Ordered the seafood tempura -- excellently prepared, however, not a generous portion. The unagi nigiri was good, but not great. Out of stock of two of the best sakes! Will be back. Had a wonderful meal. Highly recommended. Server was very sweet and caring.

Well, it's been almost two years since I first reviewed you, Red Koi. I've been forced to go to RKA to deal with my addiction. (Red Koi Anonymous for you non-addicts) You're the apple of my eye, RK. You're the wind beneath my wings. (Sorry, Elton...) If you have not been here, you are SERIOUSLY missing out. Best sushi in town, best fried rice in town, best ambiance in town. Go. Order Spicy Tuna Rolls and Red Koi Special Fried Rice. Eat. Regret. Eat Again. Pay and leave. Rinse, repeat, and try to upstage my dukedom. You're on. I'm going tonight...are you?

You must try a deep fried sushi roll!! This may sound strange and confusing but it tastes good! There are several kinds of deep fried rolls on the menu, and I highly recommend them. It is such a brilliant idea to fry sushi rolls. American Japanese fusion! Hurrahs!

Had a good meal tonight. Agedashi tofu was good, martini salad was good, my friend had the house fried rice and it was good with a nice garlicky flavor. I've had some mediocre lunches before but I will come back as it seems to be getting better. $5 for a bottled beer was a bit high as it's not the Peabody or the Purple Church. The service was good. They may well merit 4 stars and I will come back to try some other items.

Had dinner here for my birthday and I've been here before and it was fairly good but this time, not good at all. I like good to be flavorful (umm on the salty side doesn't bother me) but the food was so-o-o-o salty I couldn't stand it. The salt was all in the fried rice and the steak and lobster hibachi special. Very disappointed. Plus, the meat was very tough. I usually get the filet mignon because the meat there can be tough if you don't but decided to try the special that night and was disappointed I had strayed. No one at our table (4) was happy with their dinner. It was disappointing to say the least since the bill was $100-ish dollars, plus tip. It will be a long while before I give them a chance again. P.S. The only good thing we had was the cooked crunchy shrimp sushi. Can't remember the name but it was tasty and not salty!

I love this sushi restaurant! The staff are so friendly. I have never had a bad experience here. And what can I say? The sushi here is the bomb! They have awesome lunch and dinner specials that keep me coming back. Most importantly, you're treated special here. Thanks Red Koi! :)

This place is so fantabulous that it's awesomeness cannot be described in words. I love how great their sushi is, how large their selection, and how affordable it is. They have a large variety of sushi to pick from ranging from about $5 to about $12 I believe. They also have excellent Japanese food- their fried rice is as good as Stix!!! That's super rare. They give complimentary Spring Rolls to each person, which is a super cool thing as well. I was surprised that I didn't like the Eel roll because I love eel, but it just wasn't good for me. I also disliked the Rainbow Roll but another friend loved it. I have never had seaweed salad before and ermahgerd I gotta have it again!! Oddly enough, the steak in the hibachi meal didn't taste that great but the steak in the fried rice tasted amazing! I usually dislike steak but actually liked it that way. Pretty neat! The Big Apple Roll is the best of the best so newcomers should definitely try that (if they like shrimp- WHO DOESN'T?!). The Mummy Roll looks huge but it's mostly the potato on top. It was still pretty yummy. Favorites: - Big Apple Roll - Chicken Fried Rice - Chicken Hibachi - Clear Soup - Crunchy Shrimp Roll - Fried Rice (all meats) - Ginger Salad - IP Roll - Kani Hani - Kentucky Roll - Memphis Roll - Red Koi Roll - Ridgeway Roll (spicy) - Seaweed Salad - Steak Fried Rice Ok: - Hurricane Roll - Tornado Roll Dislike: - Crunchy Crab Rolls - Eel Roll - Rainbow Roll - Spicy Crab Tempura Roll - Spring Rolls - Steak Hibachi

Had the pleasure of trying Red Koi for the first time. My 14yo son & I were very impressed. First lets talk about the service...our server Petrell could teach a class on how it's done. He was great!! No other words needed. As for the food...it was good. We received free veggie spring rolls. My son had a California Roll and and Eel roll. I tried his Eel roll...awesomeness!! I had the chicken hibachi. It was well seasoned and hot. We will be back. My coworkers are waiting on my review. TWO THUMBS UP!!

This is a great option for Sushi in Memphis! I love the fact that it is across the street from my office and the lunch options are great! All the rolls I have had here are great, including the salad, soup, complimentary spring rolls, and cooked food options. The service here is great and they are very quick for those needing a quick lunch!

Now that I know the deliciousness wafting behind these doors, I will never eat at another Japanese cuisine restaurant. Not only is the food amazing but the staff are attentive and kind as well. The atmosphere can be considered both romantic and intimate. My favorite items here are the salad and Kentucky roll. Delish This is the best Japanese restaurant I've been to.

Great for a casual lunch or dinner. Servers are quick and attentive but do not converse much, which isn't necessarily a negative. Food was well prepared. Sushi was warm and fresh. Sauces were just right. Recommended and will return!

Too much soy sauce made my hibachi steak and chicken too sweet. I bit into a small piece of chicken that felt a bit undercook I will update if I get any food poisoning. I lived and no issues.

I love this place. I usually go about once a week and I always go for lunch. The people I've interacted with are always friendly and one of the girls who works there even remembers my phone-in order. The food is always good and I find myself craving it every now and again. If you go you should try the Tornado Roll. It's my favorite.

Stopped for lunch here. while shopping in the area. I sat at the bar and had the daily sushi special, spicy shrimp. Busy lunch place. The shrimp was good, not too spicy and was enough to satisfy my appetite. The service was good, kept my tea glass filled but did not hover. I would be sure to stop again if we are back in Memphis again.

By far the best sushi in memphis. I travel to memphis weekly for work and make it a point to eat here twice a week. Over the course of the last 12 months I have eaten at every sushi place in Memphis and the surrounding areas and now red koi is the only sushi place I visit.

Yay, I have a new favorite local sushi joint. Relying once again on glowing Yelp reviews, we stopped by one Friday evening. The interior is really quite nice, with red and blue mood lighting. We were greeted by complimentary spring rolls...a nice touch. I do wish we could have gotten hot towels. In any case, their miso soup was a particularly flavorful rendition, with a rich dashi and a generous amount of miso...it was also piping hot which helped its cause as well. Agedashi tofu was also served nice and hot...unfortunately, the tempura batter was thick and heavy...more like a beer batter than tempura. As such, I would probably forego tempura entrees here. We ordered some nigiri and a Blue Ocean roll, Yellowstone roll, and Tropical roll. We found the sushi impeccably fresh, and properly trimmed and cut (Sekisui, you should take notes). Portions were generous yet reasonably priced, service friendly and attentive. Oh, and they also have the nicest and cleanest rest rooms I've ever seen at an Asian eatery. Can't wait to come back and try some of the other rolls.

I visited here recently for lunch. Their sushi is very good. They have a vast selection and there are plenty to choose from. I would highly recommend the Memphis roll, the Spicy salmon roll, and the Spicy crawfish roll. The service here is great and the restaurant is very nicely decorated. I would recommend this sushi restaurant.

I eat at Red Koi once a week. It has become my favorite sushi place in Memphis. The lunch specials are a good price so you don't break the bank. They also provide complementary spring rolls as an appetizer. The fish is always fresh.. I've tried majority of their rolls, but spider roll is probably my favorite. Yesterday I went outside my comfort zone and ordered the Vols roll, which contains eel. I have had a bad experience with eel before at another restaurant. Red Koi is the perfect place to try new things, because the eel was great! Loved it! I wish they would open a location downtown. We are in need of a good sushi place.

Three of us came here for a late Saturday lunch and the restaurant was about half full of people seeming to enjoy their food. The lunch specials are tasty and well priced. I had the titan roll and the cordova roll and I immensely enjoyed them both. The other random rolls I sampled from my dining companions were great as well. I spent $11.50 for the one special roll and one regular roll combo with a ginger salad. A bargain if you ask me. If you have a sushi desire and are in this party of Memphis I highly recommend Red Koi.

Red Koi is a Japanese-inspired restaurant that has sushi, hibachi food, and a full bar. The hibachi food is prepared on a traditional teppanyaki grill, but without the gimmick of tricks and poorly-executed jokes. Although the grill is exposed and easily-viewable in the dining area, guests are seated at regular dining tables. This place has food that is discernibly not the best Memphis, but it's good enough - and I mean that. The sushi selection is abundant and well-made enough for me to to call this a sushi spot. The hibachi food is comparatively cheap and comes with a decent portion, but includes fried rice, vegetables, soup, and salad (during dinner hours). I'm like a kid in a candy store when it comes to the bar; they can make anything you want - but don't forget to try their specialty drinks! I particularly like The Marilyn. The atmosphere of Red Koi is calming and intriguing. Orange and black give a chic glaze to the restaurant, but neon blue lights kind of serve up a modern feel. It's worth mentioning that I have never once had to wait for a table, and I've been during peak hours plenty of times. That's not to say this place is dead - it isn't! In fact, the growing popularity of Red Koi has it pretty packed during dinner hours! Although the manager could use a bit of an attitude makeover, the servers are extremely friendly, pleasant, and efficient. What keeps me coming back to Red Koi as my go-to for Japanese-inspired food? CONSISTENCY. The food, service, atmosphere, and overall experience are consistently good. Sure I could go to A-tan for a great tableside hibachi experience, or Blue Fin for the best sushi in town, but there's no reason to when Red Koi has never let me down. It's like going to a gourmet burger shop when all you really want is Huey's!

This is my #1 sushi spot. Every time I have been here, it has been great. Never disappointed. I have only been at lunch because of the great specials they have. And even with a packed house, you still get your food fast. Everything that I have tasted has been great and its hard for me to make a decision when I come. I recommend the sushi lunch or a bento box. They also have some of the best fried rice I have tasted.

Watch out, Osaka!!! This is some of the best sushi I have had in Memphis! They have awesome early bird and weekend lunch specials...and the clear onion soup is a must try! It is simple, but delicious!!!

I love sushi and this restaurant gets better with each visit. Although it is not my favorite in Memphis it definitely falls within the top three sushi joints. Positives: 1. Decor hip and cool 2. Very clean 3. Very polite staff 4. Full bar with hd tvs , actually looks like it be fun to hang out 5. Also very fresh sushi grade fish and an awesome sake assortment

I have been to this place several times because my girlfriend seems to be a fan of this place, and for the life of me I cannot figure out why. Perhaps I was spoiled by fresh Japanese cuisine back home in Southern California, but the food here always tastes bland. I do see a lot of positive reviews on the sushi so I may have to give that a try on my next visit. To start with the positives, the ambiance is very cool with a lot of blue and red lighting, polished wood tables, and a relaxing atmosphere. They also have a full bar on display which is cool. The price point is also very reasonable. On the negative side of things, the food is very Americanized and bland. We always get the shrimp tempura which has little flavor about it, and the tempura vegetables just taste odd to me. The fried rice here is good, but their meats are always tough, overcooked, and not too flavorful. Maybe I've just had a few bad experiences or perhaps I'm not ordering the right things here, but either way, this is not a Japanese restaurant of choice for me.

You get what you pay for its a little more expensive and I don't mind! I love the shrimp hibachi, and my kids do too! I've tried all the cooked sushi and love it!! You have to try everything on the menu! The staff is really friendly and they make you feel at home!

The staff is (relatively) friendly and efficient. The food is always on point, and it arrives quickly. Be careful about going at peak lunch times because it is always slammed with people from IP and the surrounding businesses.

My friend and I just wanted to try something new. The decor is really nice and staff was one point. The sushi was well prepared and beautifully presented. If you are near and just need you sushi fix, this will satisfy you.

Great ambiance.. Nice variety of different items on the menu, but all relative. Staff is always friendly, accommodating and attentive. I love the that you can a custom meal without a lot of effort or ridiculously over priced add ons. Red Koi..is a great place for dates, work discussions, happy hour, celebrations or just an "I am starving, I want good food" place. Definite staple to my line up

This is my fail safe I don't feel like cooking dinner but don't want fast food option. I'm a creature of habit so I always get the Kani Hana ( crab rangoons) and shrimp tempura. The prices are very reasonable and the food is tasty for what you get. When you find in they bring little mini egg roll appetizers, which is a nice touch. Best ginger salad dressing ever! sometimes I crave one of their salads, which is the only time I crave salad. The menu is pretty extensive, it all looks really good but mixing it up is just not my style. The interior is a little to generic for my taste but I've dined in a few times. I just presumed its a chain but apparently its locally owned. the bar seems well stocked and the have a few tvs but dont play sound. My bf and I can go and spend $30 total, which is nice.

First thing I liked about this place was the service. Extremely friendly waitress, seated me immediately, and never left be waiting or wanting. I had the white peach sake such was refreshing. The tuna sashimi was a bit overpriced for just the 6 pieces i received but they were very good. The rolls were reasonably priced but smaller than what I'm used to. Overall the experience was great but I wouldn't say this was the best value for a sushi restaurant.

This place is so good. They always have pretty fast, friendly service. Petrell is so nice and a great server. The fried rice is probably some of the best that I've had in Memphis. They put so many vegetables and it's always piping hot. The sushi is fantastic. I love the Kentucky and the Tornado. Definitely worth a try!

Ate there 3 nights ago. Started feeling bad that night. Obvious food issues. Sashimi seemed off but didn't think anything of it. Service was a little rude. Got there 30 minutes before closing. I eat sushi and sashimi all over US while traveling for work. Never had issue like this. Finally getting over it. Ate nothing before this all day so I am sure it was the food here.

We stumbled upon Red Koi when shopping at Target and were pleasantly surprised to find such delicious sushi in a trendy clean friendly atmosphere. The complimentary egg roll appetizers are a nice touch and the Miso soup was piping hot with lots of tofu. We ordered the YellowStone Roll with fresh mango and the Blue Ocean Roll topped with crab. Both rolls were flavorful, pretty, and seasoned nicely. The nigiri (albacore and yellow tail) was fresh and generous atop the vinegar rice. Our server was very friendly and efficient. I'm looking forward to returning to Red Koi and trying other items from the menu.

I'm not much on sushi and hibachi but I got to say this place impressed. A colleague talked me into going after work. Started out with some free delicious little spring rolls. Hibachi was on point, then came the cheesecake. OH MY GOD! Fried cheesecake, Lawd! Sorry, I ate a cherry before I thought about taking a picture. Definitely recommended

1st visit was a Saturday around 2:00pm. We ordered the Ridgeway, Spider, Germantown and Ninja sushi rolls. The ingredients all tasted fresh and were absolutely tasty! We also tried the Gyoza, which was just okay to me. I tend to like the more mayo-type, ginger dressing on my salads which, to my satisfaction, is what they serve. I recommend going during lunch the first time, so you save a little cash by getting one of the combo specials.

Once again red koi presents awesome fresh food including creative sushi rolls, hot lip smakn soups, and screaming hot hibachi!! Udon makes me happy happy. Full bar and extremely knowledgable staff... so relax and go there.

This will be a bizarre review. Easily the best sushi restaurant in the city. Fish is amazing, the chefs are top notch and the prices are fair. HERE is where things get odd. On Saturday May 16, 2015. My brother and I go here for dinner before a concert at Mud Island. I go ala carte on my order and spend about 50.00 on me alone. He decides to get a dinner special that's got a Salmon roll and 10 pieces of nigiri and he orders a beer. We both ordered a salad which was extra. All told we are about to drop 75.00 on two folks easily. NOW begins the issue. ALL he asked for was to switch his Roll from a Salmon to a Tuna. The waitress said she would have to check to see if it was possible. Oh okay. She comes back 2 minutes later and just says "No". We were like "What do you mean no?". She said that they can't switch the rolls. My brother stated that he did not mind paying more for the roll and asked to see the manager. A few more minutes go by, we get our salads and the female manager comes by and said "You asked to speak with a manager?". Her tone seemed a tad odd to me. We told her of our issue and that we'd gladly pay extra to simply switch the roll. She says it CANT be done, not even for money. Its policy. What?? "This is insane" I proclaimed "I have been to dozens of sushi restaurants in Memphis alone that do this without any issue". She stuck to her guns and said it's not something they do BUT she could go check. I quickly told her to either come back with our checks for the salads and drinks or come back with the fact that a SINGLE freaking roll could be switched. She came back and said "We can do it THIS time but next time they can't". Folks I have never been so blown away astounded and vexed at a restaurant like this in my life. What arrogance. The customer is obviously NOT right at this place. Again, the food here is amazing. But they are clueless on how to handle customers. It's not like we were insisting on a name change of the restaurant or insisting they give us ALL the sushi for three dollars. Nope, nothing insane. We were simply asking for a switch of a roll. This single roll prompted me to write this review. The management there needs to freaking get a clue as this is not how you abuse paying customers. Maybe they know they have great chefs and fish and simply don't bow to customers requests. This much is clear. The food makes me want to visit this place every week...the attitude makes me NEVER EVER want to return again. I am so perplexed. I think I will take my money elsewhere from now on. I am still flabbergasted at the fact this 'altercation' even happened. For a bit we thought we were on some reality TV show about rude service. Nope...they come by it honestly here. All they had to do was switch rolls, up charge is a dollar or two and we would have been happy customers. Nope, apparently COMPANY POLICY is King here. That's the last of my money they will ever see.

I'm a new sushi fan, and because of Red Koi, I've become a bigger one today. I walked in to meet some friends and was immediately greeted by quick and efficient service that stayed consistent through my whole visit. I ate my complimentary egg roll after dipping it in a mystery sauce I blindly tried, and it was very good. Being an amateur sushi consumer, I went with the 2 roll lunch special which was priced very fairly and had the crunchy shrimp and crunchy crawfish roll, and they were both better than my only other sushi experiences at Osaka. All in all, I had nothing to complain about from my first Red Koi visit and can't wait to go back!

Wanted to try something new for take out and was DISAPPOINTED. The woman ignored me standing at the front trying to pay and rudely walked off before I could hand her my signed receipt. There was no one to attend to as she left. The shrimp tempura had no flavor, had 3 shrimp and a fried piece of broccoli and the sushi was thrown together in the box. I would give it another try but with staff that rude, I would rather pay more for a better experience somewhere else. I wanted very much for a good experience but if the to-go was this bad I will NOT be dining in.

Red Koi is hard to find. Its hidden in the back of a large east Memphis shopping center. But the quality of the food and service draws a generous and regular crowd. The sushi offerings are numerous and tasty. The Hibachi dinners are excellent. The service is not warm but it is efficient. Red Koi is a solid choice for Asian cuisine in east Memphis.

Had the hibachi fillet mignonette, medium rare. Cooked nicely, but no spices on the steak. California roll was nice, the salad was good and the vegetables and fried rice were good. Not a great dinner, but nothing bad either.

My father and I ate here for lunch today. My first impression was a good one, the restaurant was clean and I liked the decor. The staff was friendly and we received good service. To start I got the house salad and miso soup, both of which were pretty good. I chose one of the weekend sushi lunch deals as my meal. $11.45 for one roll of the regular list and 1 roll off the special roll list (there are 6 or so variations for the sushi roll lunch deal). I got the solo roll for my regular and Vols roll for my special. I was impressed with both rolls. It took about 25 minutes to get the rolls (the restaurant was full though and I thought the sushi was well worth the wait). Overall I'm very glad I stopped in here today. For about $12 for two delicious rolls I will definitely be back.

Just had lunch and wow, the sushi was great. 3 rolls, soup for 11.95. Memphis maybe known for Bar B Q but this place is a safe stop for everyone. I will be back.

Hands down the best sushi place in Memphis. Huge selection, excellent service, and great prices make Red Koi an unparalleled sushi experience. The sheer number of astounding rolls and other delicious items blow the competition out of the water, especially in terms of the serving size they give you. The Tornado roll here is easily twice as big as the one at Sekisui and for $1 less! I've got a to go menu that I'm checking off each item as I try it and I hope to eat every single item at least once!

Me and the wife stopped in Saturday night for some sushi and hibachi. I've been here several times and the food is always delicious. My problem was not with the food, but the service. We ordered 2 rolls, hibachi dinner which comes with spring rolls app, clear soup, salad, and entree. Expecting to sit down and enjoy myself and my meal for a while I ordered some hot sake to go with. Less than 2 or 3 minutes after leaving our waiter arrived with our clear soup, spring rolls and salad all at the same time, i kinda scratched my head, then headed to wash in my hands in the restroom. When I returned my entree was on the table. I sit down to my whole meal being served all at the same time (before the rolls were even thought about being made). I have worked in the service industry in the past and I would never deliver app, salads, and entrees at the same, let alone before the other apps were served. This kind of upset me because I wanted to enjoy a hot meal, by the time I ate my salad, soup and spring roll it was not the steaming hibachi plate I had came for. I was forced to eat my meal in a timely manner, but the food was very good as always. On top of that, with all this food in front of me our server had the nerve to ask if I was ready for dessert, I almost died. I know now to order at my own pace next time unless you want 7 plates brought to you at once. I thought the server could have done his job better and coursed my meal out, no need to rush me out of the restaurant at 6 o'clock on a Saturday evening. Good food, bad service.

Great place for lunch, and you can get hibachi at lunch. Smaller place so it gets crowded sometimes. You have to look for it as it's over by Staples.

The young lady at the host stand is very rude. The manager is amazing, the food isn't bad at a good price but JEEZUZ... that girl is always there at the front and her attitude is the worst, makes me not want to come in.

We went here for our New Year's Eve dinner, and so glad we did. What a little gem, tucked away in strip mall land! Their sushi was wonderfully delicious, fresh tasting, and artfully presented. You can get regular, special, or premium rolls -- the more fancy ingredients, the higher the price. Frankly, you can get several $5.95 rolls and have a fairly cheap date. The New Orleans roll was especially divine. We're definitely going to go to this place again.

Food was good. Service was slow but good. Prices are great. Loved the sushi. Went for lunch which was really busy. Great decor. The bar is half sushi & half alcohol which was pretty neat.

This is a great sushi place. The location is weird, but it really is worth it. Today was my second time, and I sat at the sushi bar. The sushi chef recommended the mummy roll, and said it was unique to this place. It was wrapped in rice noodles like a mummy and fried- it was delicious. Nice presentation. I've had great service and enjoyed the sushi both times I've been. I can't find anything wrong with this place except it is weird getting to it. I found it in a shopping area just wandering around after leaving target. I don't know if I would have seen it had I not been wandering the area!

Good sushi is hard to come by. It's true. Take a food that puts a lot of people off, makes them uncomfortable, and then prepare it poorly and it is a recipe for trouble. I love sushi. I love raw fish. I've eaten fish raw straight out of the ocean and had a heavenly experience, and I've drunkenly bought sushi from the grocery store and regretted it forever. Red Koi is a step up from grocery store sushi. When you think of fresh fish, you think of it as being kept on ice at the market and smelling like the ocean, cold and crisp. The fish I got here was room temperature and limp. This is not appetizing. The fish at a sushi restaurant should be kept on ice as used, and kept very well wrapped and in the fridge when not being used. So, how did it become room temperature by the time it got to the table? On all 4 orders of rolls? Then, the rolls were only okay. I ate them since I paid for them, but wished I had just eaten somewhere else. I asked around the table when we were done eating, "Do any of you guys think you'll come back here?" and everyone answered the same: "No, not really," "Probably not," "There's better sushi in town," and so on. My advice, skip it. Here is a review of the restaurant without thinking about the sushi. When I go to a japanese restaurant, I look for the large bottle of asahi or kirin to accompany my cheap house sake. This restaurant only has the standard sized bottles of beer. Speaking of cheap house sake, they only have the warm filtered sake, if you're looking for nigori here you're going to have to pay for a bottle of it. It's not terribly expensive, just not what I want in this type of establishment. I want the large beer to make my sake bombs with, and the nigori to wash it down with. I gave it a shot, but I'm not a fan. Oh well.

Hands down the best miso soup in Memphis! Complimentary spring rolls to start are nothing to complain about, either! Love the crunchy shrimp and crunchy crab rolls. Blue Ocean, too. One of my favorites. Go early to beat the crowd.

The food was delicious! The edamame was some of the most flavorful we have ever had. Service was great too. Great service and sushi. Will definitely return if I'm in the area.

Bad experience and disappointed. My steak came out undercooked and I want it cook medium. They brought it back to re-cook then my vegetables and rice got cold which they suppose to heat them all. sushi was ok but nothing special, its like missing something that I don't know. My money not worthy spend here.

Good flavor, American-ized sushi. Don't expect a ton of flavorful, fresh fish. But rather this is more of your typical American style sushi with sauces, creams, spices and other flavors to enhance the rolls. Overall rather affordable and quick service (especially for dinner). The rolls are an average size, not tiny but not too big to fit in your mouth. My rating is a solid 3.5 stars.

I only visited this restaurant once after hearing a few good things about this place. I was a bit disappointed. The service was OK but the quality of fish was mediocre. As I mostly eat nigiris, fish needs to be super fresh and of high quality and this is where I was not impressed.

I've never reviewed a restaurant before but I had to take my time out to review this one. Why? Because I read the reviews on other sites and they were waaayyyy off. Also, I went for my birthday, so my expectations were high. I ordered simple rolls that you can get anywhere and they will be generally be the same: a Hurricane and Crunchy Shrimp roll as well as shrimp fried rice to go. $25.02 total. Sushi - The (albeit hard to read) online pdf menu said that a deep fried hurricane roll came with eel sauce. No sauce listed for the crunchy shrimp. Both descriptions are standard when it comes to these 2 types of rolls. I get the rolls and there's this white sauce on both rolls. Maybe you've heard of white eel sauce, but I haven't - ever. And it tasted like suped up Miracle Whip - yuk! Fried Rice - It was salty and nasty. The rice was stuck together and it just had an odd flavor overall like they didn't just use soy sauce but also some added flavor. I didn't try the Habachi grill but I'm assuming if the basic rolls and fried rice were bad, the Habachi won't be any better. It took me two days, but I ate both the sushi and rice. I did spend $25, afterall, and I shouldn't dove in head first - especially when it comes to sushi. All and all, if you're new to sushi - don't try it here and if you're not new to sushi - you won't like it.

I love this place! I'm a big hibachi fan but let's be honest, you've seen the show once you've seen it a million times, and I don't want to politely pay attention or catch zucchini in my mouth anymore when I'd rather talk with my fellow diners. Here thankfully, there's no show but you get all the delicious hibachi brought to your table like a regular meal: your salad, your awesome clear soup, great veggies, rice and for me, steak. I won't say this is the top hibachi I've ever had, and I wish it came with noodles too, but it's very good and you get a good portion. I also love the Spicy Tuna Salad. It's delicious and seems like a generous portion to this sushi novice. My boyfriend the actual sushi fan has enjoyed his meals each time we've been here, and the price is just right. We both walk out full, me with leftovers, for about $50 before tip, and that includes a little alcohol. Servers and sushi bar folks are very friendly. I'm so glad we found this place while we're here in Memphis! The menu selection is impressive and I cannot wait to come back and try the udon soup!

The food is about as close as Memphis can get to the Pacific coast. Watch out Sekisui and Osaka... there's a new Sushi place in town and it's Red Koi. Very good sushi rolls. As someone who needs to avoid raw fish, there were plenty of tasty roll to choose from... although the combinations were the old standards and not really anything unique. My wife. a Californian, said the nigiri was "excellent". The staff was very knowledgeable and friendly. The wait time was adequate. The prices were reasonable for the amount of food we devoured - abour 15%-20% less than what it would have been at Sekisui.

This is a very nice place for sushi at lunch. They open at 11:00, so you need to get there early. They have some very nice lunch specials. The service is very good, but gets a little slow the busier they get. The prices are some of the best around, and the sushi is always fresh. I like the Cordova roll and I get them to add the spicy mayo. The spicy yellowtail roll is good as well. Actually, I haven't had a bad roll there at all. I always get an order of fresh salmon nigiri as well. Love that stuff!

Food was good, quick. The menu has all your traditional items at great prices. The staff was great - friendly & responsive. The place was pretty full on Saturday night and there were multiple toasts of saki & wine throughout the restaurant. There were families, singles & groups - a nice mix. The only negative might be that, because its one room with a the floor, it got kind of loud when it filled up.

this new restaurant is awesome! they have wide variety of sushi rolls and plenty of sake to choose from. i personally love the go tiger roll and big apple roll. My boyfriend love the hibachi, he said that the fried rice was the best he ever had, he also loved the fillet which so tender and nice size of shrimp. The staff was very nice and friendly, giving us all we needed in time during our visit. The best part to know is that red koi is not a chain, we will totally support them.

I'm a huge sushi fan and could probably eat it for every meal if I let myself. Red Koi is the best place I've ever experience for Japanese cuisine. When you first walk in you're greeted by a warm genuine welcome and given complimentary spring rolls for everyone at your table. Then the food itself is supreme and absolutely mouth wateringly delicious. I've tried at least one new thing every time I go and I'm never disappointed. The sushi is fresh, the hibachi is wonderful, the appetizers are yummy, and the drinks are well made too. The serving staff is eager to make your experience exceptional and I guarantee that's the experience you will have a Red Koi. Plus your environment is peaceful but still a modern design. I recommend Red Koi over any other place in Memphis and I've been eating sushi in this town for ten years.

Just like olive garden is not italian food, the same thing applies to Red Koi. This place is not even owned and run by any Japanese. The cook is Indonesian, as most of the staffs. Expect a fast food quality food and nothing else.

The location is a bit weird to get to, but the food makes up for it. By far the most choices for sushi rolls, and the combinations are really good. You must try the monster roll!

One of my favorites!!!! Some of the best fried rice in town! Haven't had any sushi I haven't liked yet! Really reasonable and super fast lunch. Love the hibachi scallops and the filet! The ginger dressing is so good. Not too strong. Sometimes we go just for fried rice. Highly recommend !!!

I really enjoyed my experience at Red Koi. The service was great, wait staff friendly and personable. They offer an extensive menu with a wide variety of choices (lunch and dinner). I particularly like the fact that it is family run and not a chain. The food was as good as Sekisui and as previously pointed out, less expensive. I would heartily recommend this restaurant to those of you who are looking for a relaxing and unpretentious evening. I will definitely return for both lunch and dinner.

Looking for a place that looks to please the customer. Look no further. Excellent, friendly staff. Great sushi selections. Very fresh fish :) All ready a place that fills up quickly at dinner rush (Friday). They don't close between lunch and dinner, big plus. Going to try something different every time I return. Not a five star rating because still waiting for liquor license at time of visit. Comfortable booths. Huge menu. Open to special needs diets :) What more can I say, they are here to stay and be successful.

I love the sushi and I love the prices. The could eat the crunchy shrimp roll everyday. They add a honey sauce on top that is to die for. The side order of fried rice is fantastic and only $2.95. I'm always satisfied when I eat here.
