Not bad for a meat and three. I'm usually not a fan but Peggy's surprised me. I love that they don't cook ANY of their veggies in animal fat. I had some awesome boiled okra. The portions are substantial and the service is fast. Lots of veggies. Apparently the meat loaf was amazing.

Well my first visit was on a Sunday at 2:30 PM. That was a mistake as the place was packed with the after church, hat ladies crowd. Our server was a bit stressed but still very friendly and attentive. We placed our orders and our very good sweet teas were delivered promptly. It seemed to take a while for our meals to come out and our food was not as hot as it should have been, just barely warm. I think the plates set out too long before being served. That aside the food was excellent. I ordered pot roast, turnip greens and I had to try that honored southern soul food vegetable, spaghetti. The pot roast was a delicious and tender bowl of beefy goodness. The greens were cooked perfectly and the spaghetti, well it was okay but I'll get a true vegetable next time. The cornbread muffins were the best I've ever had. My companion had baked chicken with dressing, yams and spaghetti. She was equally impressed with her meal. I think this may be the best home style meal in town. For a Sunday afternoon lunch I wouldn't call it cheap though. It was $27.00 for 2 meals and 2 iced teas before tip. Maybe pricing is lower during the week. Still worth it and I'll be back. Oh, and opt for something other than the spaghetti. I found out it's not really a vegetable after all. Also Peggy's is vegetarian friendly. All vegetables are cooked without any meat.

I think this is my new favorite soul food joint in memphis. Difficult call between peggys and mot & eds. Huge benefit for peggy's is the speed of food. Comes out w/in minutes. It's obviously pre-cooked, which I prefer over Alcenias and Mot & Ed's "we don't make it until you order it" draw. Everything here is good. Yams are good but not special. Greens and cabbage are indeed special. Meatloaf is excellent. I had baked chicken a couple times, once it was incredible the other time it was very meh. Overall a staple of my weekly diet.

Peggy's slogan: "Where you can get a meal just like grandma used to make!" It's a great description, but Peggy only uses pure virgin olive oil, "all natural chicken," fresh veggies, and open water fish in her soul food restaurant. Even before I tried the food, I loved Peggy's story. Apparently, the food she prepared at the famous Peabody Hotel in downtown Memphis was so delicious, she opened her own spot sometime in the last five or six years. When you walk in, the first thing you see is all of Peggy's angel statues, one filling an entire wall and another display with angles clad in purple robes. WARNING: DO NOT ask Peggy if the angels are for sale. :-D I ordered Tuesday's special, the fried chicken (white meat) with two sides (creamy potatoes and greens). I'm not sure how one can make fried chicken healthy, but it sure was scrumptious. Golden, crispy and perfectly salted. The mashed potatoes had bits of skin in it, which I like, and I got the feeling it didn't have sour cream or a bunch of other ingredients mixed into it. The collard greens were also perfectly flavored, but not necessarily chopped into bite sizes. The sweet tea was not too sweet. I usually order half sweet, half unsweetened. This was perfect for my taste buds. My to-go order came out in less than 10 minutes and Peggy was sweet as pie. An all-around great experience! I can't believe I hadn't heard of this sooner!

The food was delish!! Service was delish!!! She was so friendly. I had a pork chop. It was heavenly. I sampled my friends meatloaf. It was tasty. I sampled my other friends French fries. They tasted fresh. I also had the boiled okra. It was good. I could taste the vinegar. The creamed potatoes and gravy were OK, too. The temperature is a bit warm in the place. They didn't have everything in the menu. There is a marker board that has the accurate makings of the day. I didn't know that until after I ordered. The cornbread is the muffin style.

a mom-and-pop "Meat and 2" place (yes - they give you only TWO sides - not 3). They also have burgers and sandwiches. I recommend going early for lunch as it fills up pretty quickly around noon. The service is fairly friendly and fairly prompt, though they don't seem to know how to give refills or check on their tables to see if anything else is needed. It is an inner-city "soulful" atmosphere. It is a bit on the pricey side. When I went for dinner, the bill was $25.00 before the tip for two people getting the meat-and-2 and iced tea (no dessert).

I am not sure why "healthy" is in the title? I can't imagine my delicious candied yams and catfish being that healthy. Regardless, I didn't go for health reasons. I went for hunger reasons and Peggy's delivered. The catfish was great. The greens were flavorful and not bitter like most places in the area. The atmosphere is homey, staff is great and the food is amazing. A must go to place in the city when you have visitors or just want great southern cooking. One of the best places on the city.

Went here with my wife and friends for brunch. The food, service, and atmosphere was very nice. The coffee was good and a smooth brew. The menu is simple but very good. I had buffalo fish which was full of flavor and well seasoned. The trick with buffalo fish is to get the smaller bones crispy so they can be safely consumed, Peggy's accomplished this. The green beans and Yams I had with the fish were also well prepared and seasoned well. My wife had the chicken which was served as a 1/2 chicken with dressing. Others ate spaghetti and the pork chops. Everyone was pleased with the food. Service was very good and attentive. Atmosphere was casual and very comfortable. The food is healthy for the soul!!!!

Wow!!! If you are looking for real live soul food/southern cooking, then this is your spot! Easy to get to, parking was close. Once you enter, you feel welcome. Everyone just has that kind and friendly attitude. After getting a small table of my choice, I asked my waitress for her recommendation... I told her that I was at her mercy. She, didn't say another word, and she placed my order for me. The fried catfish was 100% spot on!!! Perfectly cooked, slightly crunchy on the outside and warm and juicy on the inside. This is a real trick to get the great at the perfect temperature to brown the outside and maintain the moist taste on the inside. The collard greens met all expectations.... And could have eaten more just because I can't get this perfect many places. The candied yams were my dessert... And we're spot on!!! Without a doubt one of the tastiest meals I have had in Memphis!!!

The staff is very friendly and the food is good not great but good! I could probably return for the Candid Yams and Greens but I wouldn't go out of my way to get there.

I love Ms. Peggy's; great food, great service, and reasonable prices. (No canned vegetables) The catfish, yams, greens, and broccoli and cheese are my favorite.

Delicious. Long wait. I wouldn't write home about the cornbread or the mac-n-cheese, but the fried catfish, yams, and greens were superb. The slice of caramel cake was among the top three slices of caramel cake to ever cross these lips. Hands down.

If you enjoy dining at locally owned restaurants which feature freshly prepared, locally grown food at a value price, then Peggy's is not be missed. The vegetables are amazing! The greens are particularly good and the best you'll likely ever eat. And the yams are the product of an old family recipe that has been tuned to perfection. All is prepared fresh daily with Ms. Peggy arriving at 6 AM every morning to start cooking. (she is often near the front door at lunchtime greeting guests) Vegetables are all prepared without using meat seasonings or flavorings. The daily menu varies somewhat based on availability of fresh product. There are meats available on the menu such as pork chops, meatloaf, etc depending on the daily specials. I have always enjoyed the vegetables so much that I haven't ordered any meat items for fear of missing the vegetables, however many in the restaurant are seen dining on meat items and friends vouch for the quality. It is hard to believe that the German chocolate cake could as good as the veggies, but that is indeed the case. The cake is baked locally each day from quality ingredients. I have eaten there over a dozen times since discovering the place and have never been disappointed, introducing many people to the experience over the last several months. I'm actually quite surprised to be providing the first review. Peggy's is a Memphis treasure....don't fail to give it a try.

Peggy's was delicious. I had the fried catfish with greens and sweet potatoes! I've had sweet potatoes elsewhere and they are usually gross if they aren't homemade but Peggy's was great. Peggy herself was really nice. She allowed me to leave some of my campaign handbills at the front for guests to see. The menu is not overbearing with a million options so straight to the point for you indecisive people. Definitely recommend if you are in the mood for southern food.

Really good food but not a great environment. I was there at a slow time so the restaurant was fairly empty but it was still really loud - stand alone AC unit going, TV up a little too loud and an employee on break playing a loud game on his phone. All this in a small room with low ceilings (and in uncomfortable chairs). But, whatever, the food was good and it didn't take too long to get it. Waitress was friendly and attentive. I will definitely be back but I may be more of a carry-out customer in the future.

Had my first meal at Peggy's. Certainly won't be the last. Home cooked healthy Soul style food. My catfish was "melt in your mouth" good. It was served with yams (yummo) and green. The cornbread is the real deal. We even took home some a couple of slices of homemade German Chocolate Cake later for desert. Get there around 6 at the latest, because they close at 7. Good stuff!

I look forward all week to smothered chicken day. Meatloaf, yams and greens always get table raves. Some of the best true southern food around these days. The place is always clean, service is prompt and the staff is polite. Used her last year to cater a christmas party and "The" Peggy served us till we nearly popped.

Miss Peggy's is a great little meat-and-three spot. Cheap, friendly, and serving a nice variety of food, including all-vegetable platters for the vegetarians. All six of the different vegetables we tried were awesome, especially the green beans, greens, and the candied yams (which were so amazingly sweet and pie-like we couldn't manage to save room for the delicious sounding desserts.) We went for dinner, but apparently there's a great deal for lunch too: $5.55 for five different items!
