On a Thursday night we arrived into town for the Memphis for the Memphis in May Barbecue Championship. We were settled in a little late and needed a cold beer and some good food. A buddy of mine did a quick Google search and found Neil's to be a nice low key place to venture. As luck would have it, they were having some live music that night as well. We arrived at Neil's and it's quiet surprisingly divey (which I don't mind). There is smoking inside, which I am not use to. No matter, we sat down and ordered some local micro brew and decided that we would try the barbecue. I have to tell you that all of the servers were incredibly friendly and engaging. Each of them said hi to us at least once or initiated conversation. If I lived in Memphis, I would find myself there on the weekend to enjoy a night out. My husband, our friend, and I tried the barbecue, but ordered different things so we can all taste what they have to offer. We tried the pulled pork, ribs, smoked ham, and brisket. My favorite thing on the whole plate was the brisket. It was sliced like it belonged on a sandwich but was pretty tasty. The ribs were also a win. Unfortunately, it was all way too much food for me to handle. Neil's was a good find for quick bit and entertainment. My favorite part was the live music they had. My only regret is not remembering what the band was called.

This review is based on Neil's burger alone as far as food here goes. I have not ventured one bit past a cheeseburger here for a few specific reasons. 1. This is hands down top 3 burgers I have had in my life. It is better than Huey's, BGR, Five Guys, Top's, and anyone else you can compare to here in Memphis. Please let me know and I'll go try it. 2. It's never really busy enough when I am there to ease my sense of food movement or lack of. I'm really strange about a good flow of food coming from a kitchen. Call me crazy, I don't care, but if you aren't selling a bunch of food then it's not being prepped often or turned over in the coolers and lines. 3. It's kind of little expensive for bar food. $14 meat and cheese plate. $6 basket of fries? $12 chicken finger basket? At the same time a 10 oz ribeye is $13??? What does that say about the steak? Anyway 4 stars on the burger. I refuse to eat much else based on my strangeness and the fact that I can't stand cigarette smoke and it smells like old dirty ashtrays in there. Take a burger to go!!!

Walked in. Smelled like an ashtray. Confirmed the restaurant is ALL smoking. Left. She seemed almost pleased to lose another disgusted potential customer. Weird.

This place is a great after work drink stop for me. The bar area is spacious and there is plenty of space out on the floor to accommodate several large groups. I prefer the openness of the place b/c for some reason it really helps cut down on the smokiness. Great music line up throughout the week too. AND the music has never been so loud that I couldn't still carry on a conversation with someone while the band was playing. Love that! Last but not least, the bathrooms are clean...yay! Folks, a decent bathroom is really hard to find these days in a bar.

Great food, great music every night. One stage inside and another on the patio. Wed nights Soul legends Elmo and the shades play, Thur nights is an open jam with Jack Rowell and everyone that is a whos who in the music world, Fri night is country with Eddie Smith, Tommy Burroughs and music legends Buddy Church and Jack Holder. They have daily lunch specials and awesome bar and wait staff, plus the owner Neil is a great guy. There is also pool tables, a great juke box and a shuffleboard table. I would have to say they have the best burger in town.

This is the "new" location for Neil's Bar. The old location on Madison in Midtown burned and had to be destroyed. A lot of people, myself included, where surprised that the new Neil's would be in this area. I wondered if they would be able to survive so far removed from midtown where they had a loyal group of patrons. As it turns out, they are doing just fine! I stopped in on a Thursday night. The band was great and the drinks were cheap. The crowd was the same! It's not as dirty or smoky as the old Neil's but somehow, it still feels like Neil's.

Great room, Great People, Great food and a Great time. Had an excellent Catfish Platter and got to sit in with an amazing bunch of guys on the stage. Love this place and cant wait to come back.

Same great Neil's, new location. After a fire at their midtown location, Neil's recently relocated to Quince/Yorkshire area shopping center. The bar is a great size for large parties, and has somehow retained the same feeling as the old bar, with a divide between the bar area, and the dining tables and pool tables. The old shuffleboard table (while singed in the fire) is still usable and displayed in the front window. The menu is unchanged, with old favorites like fried mushrooms with horseradish sauce, and burgers, steaks, and grilled chicken sandwiches with mediocre fries. It is a 21-and-up bar with smoking, though families are allowed during Sunday brunch. A jukebox provides great music options and keeps things moving. Several flat screen televisions show different games, and keep bar patrons happy. Ample parking in lot shared by Las Delicias and MemFish.

I'm from out of town (Portland, OR) and my girlfriend and I wanted a place to grab a drink and some food. Waitress was really nice and helpful and were never left waiting for service. The food was good and beer was well.. just beer (portland is beer heaven and nothing can compare lol). I have nothing to say badly about this place. Id recommend it if your trying to go hangout in the typical bar scene.

This place needs to take the word restaurant out of their name. Very poor food quality. Had chicken quesadilla and found a bone in one. Had the jambalaya which was prob the worst I have ever had- it was a spaghetti based sauce with rubbery ingredients. If u want a place to drink it's ok, but save ur money and spend it elsewhere for food that is worthy of being being restaurant quality food and that would be somewhere else

The special last night was Chicago Style Pizza. Chef Tony B. cooks it in an iron skillet like you would in Grandma's cupboard. I think it's something that can make the cup. Not standard traditional Chicago but thick and meaty. And they have Abita Andy Gator in bottles. Purely awesome!
