    Disappointing in every respect.

One of our favorite places. My daughter loves the rice and I get the carne asada tacos, which are very good. Great drink specials, great service, and always a good time. I don't like all the notes on the door telling me if I order a drink and don't like it I still have to pay, luckily I don't drink there but still something to think about. Sometimes my daughter and I just grab a couple orders of rice and chips to go and make a meal out of it, they have authentic rice. You'll like this place!!

They are good for lunch. They have cheap lunch deals and it comes out quick and hot. The salsa is very pace picante, and the food isn't the best Mexican, but you get what you pay for, the prices are not overwhelming.

this hospitality was all messed up. I went jn ordered a strawberry margarita (frozen) and got a coronaRita and was told I asked for that drink.however the manager comes out and slings the drink off the table and says do not serve him just rude I would never go back to this place ever again

Not the best Mexican food ever but it is a nice place to stop in for lunch...I love their salsa. The staff is always friendly; usually sit at the bar and they are very nice and get the food out fast.

Not good food and expensive! Fajita meat in the enchilada was dried out hard little pieces. The chicken flautas were dry and plain and came with no sauce or flavoring. Just chicken and a shell. $11 per entrée for lunch. I worried about our security because only criminals could have guns inside.

Great place for lunch. Nice staff and usually nobody sitting at the bar. Huge quantities that we usually split for lunch. The carnitas tacos are very good.

The Happy Mexican is a very festive, colorful spot. Anyone can find something on the food and drink menu's to accommodate his or her palate. The restaurant is clean, the staff is friendly, and the prices are reasonable. Today, I decided on the shrimp quesadilla's which was pretty decent. It was actually my first time having them. I highly suggest trying them. Usually I turn my nose up at fish tacos, shrimp anything when it comes to Mexican food....but I decided to be a little adventurous this time and it was good. The guac really wasn't that good to me. It had a weird taste; perhaps this is because I eat Chipotle's guac all.the.time. Overall, I have been to this restaurant before, but just at the downtown location...and honestly, it's a tad bit overrated. I think anyone who has actually eaten authentic Mexican food would agree. But - for what it's worth, it's a decent spot.

We came for dinner and should have paid more attention to the notice on the entrance stating "Once you order your food, you have to pay for it"; and "If you ordered a drink, and did not like it, you still had to pay for it". I have no idea how the restaurant got to this point, but in hindsight, certainly casts a buyer beware. We were promptly seated, and asked for our beverage requests. We wanted the Top Shelf Margarita, but noted in the ingredients, a splash of Coca Cola. Unfamiliar with this style, we inquired about a sample to insure we liked it; but were advised they could not do that. So, not feeling lucky nor want to risk a premium drink, we settled for the house Margarita. When we ordered our meals, the menu once again reinforced what the restaurant could not do, and that was deliver Guacamole with the dishes that the menu suggested the dish came with. We ordered the Chicken Fajitas, and they were average, and a Chicken Chimichanga, average as well. We completed the meal with an order of Flan, that the restaurant used a Caramel Topping, instead of the regular cooked sugar as the sauce. Over all, a disappointing experience; we wanted to like this restaurant, but the Customer Service and Quality is lacking to make a return.

Came at 8:50pm. It closes at 10. Still no food at 9:35pm. The chips were stale and from a bag, not fresh. Waters came at 9:10. I've been here for lunch. Late dinner was loud and awful.

This location has alright to average food! Now that is out, this place has "Alex" the bartender! He is like Alex in Madagascar behind the bar. This guy can make drinks like no other. Doesn't matter what your drinking, doesn't even matter if you ask he to create a drink on the spot. I can hang out here on any given 5 'O clock anywhere day of the week, and be taken to a place like those corona commercials. Come to my favorite bar and have a blast!

Today is my brother's 17th birthday and he wanted to eat at Happy Mexican. My mom and I got there first so we just sat on the patio because we didn't want to wait. It was nicely covered and had a good view. The special of the day was 2 for 1 small margaritas. My mom got the peach and I got raspberry. Please don't get the raspberry margarita...it was so nasty! My aunt even tried it once she got there and almost gaged. The peach was really good so I got that for my second one. The server was good. The waiter came back every few minutes to check on us and see if we needed anything. Once everyone got there, we ordered and it took no time for the food to come out. The dishes were okay. I think I felt that way because I have other Mexican restaurants that I love. It was a nice area to hang out with my family. Everyone did enjoy their food. The waiter was awesome about checking up on us. I love the patio.

A poor representation of Americanized Texican food. The house margarita is weak and watered down, and their interpretation of Mexican food is bland. Service was good, but skip it. There are better options.

On the basis of the bar after work and evenings, Happy Mexican is a solid destination. Alex, the bartender, is Class A. My margarita was made to order and exactly as requested: Real lime, 100% agave tequila, and Cointreau. Easy to win over my loyalty. Was also here for lunch earlier, and merely okay meal. Hours are not late. 10 pm weekdays and only 11 pm Fri-Sat. Used to be an On the Border property, so I learned it was a conversion few years ago. Generous chips and salsa. Patrons at bar are having a good time...hope they don't drive :) Earlier, had checked out East End Grill across the street. No comparison with their unfriendly and mandatory tip policy, and stingy drinks.

Feel like this place is totally underrated. Have always found the service to be friendly, Fabricio is the best! Food had been tasty, fresh, and got every time. Actually kinda glad it's underrated, gives me the selfish chance to enjoy it for a bit longer

Normally I have a good experience but this time it was horrible. We ordered the Margarita Special and it was gross. The manager Alex, asked what was wrong and we told him it was nasty, bland etc....he said DO NOT SAY IT WAS NASTY. We were shocked like ooookkkkk it was disgusting. At the end of the day we were not looking for anything to be done or given but just wanted him to know it was not made correctly. Some things you should never do to your customers, especially when they're regulars, spending good money in your establishment.

This was our fourth visit and again they did not let us down. Our server provided us a great recommendation regarding splitting one of the specials and it was more than enough for both of us. They have good salsa, large servings, and great frozen drinks. We recommend Happy Mexican and they have become our preferred Mexican restaurant.

As I am finishing up my Yelp 100 Challenge review for Memphis. I would like to conclude it with the first restaurant I ate at as a "Memphian". I love Mexican food, but I just have not eaten it as much as I would like to. Oh well, maybe after writing this review I will get a hankering and get some for lunch tomorrow. This location is about 2 miles from where I currently live. When I first came into town all confused wondering where in the hell I was, my roomie told me of all of the places around to eat. I told him I wanted some Mexican (don't worry, we splurged on BBQ the next day). So, he brought me here. It was Easter night, pre-casino time, and the place wasn't too crowded. I remember it being brightly colored, with a bar to the right, and a seating area to the left. As soon as we got seated, the chips arrived (that's what I'm talking about!). We got Cokes (hell yea!), which were huge in size. I remember I couldn't even get a refill (post road trip jitters). The menu was a few pages of your typical "Mexican" fare- I just wanted something with meat, cheese, and a tortilla. So I got the Happy Grande Burrito, my roomie got a Chile Colorado (his go to, as he tells me). By the time we were done annihilating the chips, the food was ready. And I tell you what, it wasn't half bad! It was a nice meal after a long road trip- and a great alternative to Easter with the family. One burrito and chips did me in! As for my roomie, he inhaled his food like he just got out of the pen. I assumed he enjoyed it! By the looks of it, they have a full bar, friendly and fast staff, and a lot of TVs to watch games as well. It reminded me of home- and I am cool with that! Will have to def come back. I also hear this place has a few locations as well.

Best Mexican food we have found in Memphis. Fabricio is the best server, so be sure to ask for him. The Caritas is my favorite dish, cooked right with great flavor. All is good when your Happy Mexican!

Their portions are BIG. Enough to take home half your plate after getting stuffed. And a test of a Mexican place for me is how do they do Huevos Rancheros. It was good, it was tasty, but scrambled eggs? Come on! It's got to be over easy if you're going to impress me. The other measuring stick between Authentic and TexMex also-ran is the type of tortillas you offer. Here you get flour tortillas without questions. I'm sure they had corn as an alternative, but if you had only asked, this could've been an extra star. Or maybe it was the salsa and chips, which didn't rank as high as other places. The salsa was good, fresh, but the chips were right along the lines of On The Border (the type you get at the supermarket). Good place for lunch, but you fall on the TexMex side of the fence.

If you're wondering why I walked out of your restaurant as soon as I sat down its because of that horrible hip hop music. If it weren't bad enough pumping out hip hop at the bar there was different hip hop going in the dining room opposing each other in contrast. I don't necessarily enjoy Mexican music either but it's what I expect in this type of place. What makes you think two different radio stations of rap music going together will make for an enjoyable experience? I am typing this review across the street at taco Bell where the food may not be great but I got exactly what I expected. I gave three stars for the benefit of the doubt because I didn't get a chance to try the food which may or may not be good. Also the place looked really nice inside and out. There is a sign out front offering 15% for Fed ex employees.

Quick and friendly. Not the greatest food. Every time I order from here, I'm honestly disappointed in the food. It is almost always dry and lacking some serious Mexican flavor. The salsa hails far too strongly of Pace and the meats are barely seasoned. If that's what I wanted, I'd go to Taco Bell. The staff are the restaurant's most redeeming quality. They seem to enjoy themselves and that comes across to the customers. Overall, it'll do...but if you are a true Mexican food connoisseur, definitely go somewhere else. This place will disappoint in big ways.

Happy Mexican is a Tex-Mex style restaurant that has been in Memphis for several years now. They have four locations throughout the city. The original is downtown. I used to go to happy hour quite regularly there about 6 years ago. Then later, I used to go to the one in East Memphis every Sunday for margaritas and wings. I love their wings. They are inexpensive and the hot sauce is served on the side. The price is $6.99 for 10, but you can double your order for only $3 more, which is what I do. On Sundays, you can get the Presidente Margarita for only $7.99. This one is strong. It's large, and super strong. Do not have too many of these. Saturday's special is the Ultimate Margarita for $7.99. It is also super strong (and delicious)! Lately, I have been visiting the one on Winchester, because it is near my current job. This visit was for a co-workers farewell party. I had a regular lime margarita. It was good for a plain frozen margarita. It is way better than some other Mexican restaurants in town that are not to be named here. And Monday, you get two for one margaritas, so I had two, naturally. Of course, you also get complimentary chips and salsa. I am going to start saying no, because they are too addictive! :) I also went for Cinco de Mayo. We sat on the patio, which is great especially in the spring. They had all of their top shelf margaritas on sale for $7.99. I had the Presidente. My favorite dip is the Margarita Dip, which is cheese dip with beef and pico de gallo. My favorite meal (which is actually under the appetizers) is the Margarita Special. It's fajita meat (beef, chicken, and shrimp) and vegetables on top of a bed of rice. Then it is all drizzled in cheese. Too good! I will definitely return to one of their four locations. This is my favorite tex-mex Mexican in Memphis.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
