Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.

Went the for drinks and a bite after work. Took 25 minutes before i went to find our server. Ordered a beer. .. took 20 minutes. Ordered food. .. took 20 minutes (appetizers)...ordered a second drink after the first arrived and it took 30 minutes. It even took 20 minutes to hey the bill. We were 1 of 5 tables in the joint. Watched 2 different groups leave because of not getting waited on. 5pm on a Tuesday. AWFUL
(1)Tiffany B.
The drinks was awesome during lunch time. The bartender was friendly and very outgoing. I really enjoyed myself.

Overall..I was a little disappointed. We struggled to get waited on and it took forever for the waitresses to fight over who's section we were in. The hostess needs more to do. She spent the entire time talking and hanging all over a guy that worked there. BUT the food was timely and it was good. Just needs some work in the customer service department.

We came here because Applebee's used to be one of our favorites. We were in the area again, so we thought, "Why not?" From the very beginning it was downhill. When we walked in, no one greeted us. We had to bolster up attention to get someone to seat us. Then they wanted to seat us right close to the door -- on a night that is freezing cold and windy out. We asked to be seated away from the door and they reluctantly seated us in the back of the restaurant. The whole while our waitress seemed very inattentive, not all there, and didn't refill our drinks until we had to ask several times. Even then, she came back with my son's Dr Pepper (which he says tasted more like Pepsi), and then was gone another long time before returning with water. And the restaurant was not in the least bit busy at the time. The new menu is chaotic, hard to read. Our food was nothing to write home about -- except the price! I confess, math is not my strong suite, but I was still thoroughly shocked to pay $73.64 before tip. That's a good $30 more than we would pay for a Dad and two teenage boys at a nice restaurant like Genghis Grill. While waiting for our food, I made use of the facilities, and found them dirty, and the trash can overflowing. On the way out the door, after paying our check, we saw all the waitstaff huddled around at a table, playing with their electronics. Not filled with nostalgic sentiments about Applebee's anymore. It'll be a while before I try another one -- it'll certainly be awhile before I can afford another one.

Came in with 3 friends and waited at the hostess station for several minutes while staff passed by us. The restaurant wasn't half full, not busy by any means. We were finally acknowledged and seated. We placed our drink and food orders at the same time. It took 25 minutes to get our drinks and we didn't get them until after I asked about them (they were sitting at the bar). The food came out 20 minutes later for 2 of the guests. Another 10mins for one other person's food. About 15 minutes after that, I cancelled my order because everyone in my party was done eating and was ready to leave. If you want prompt, attentive service, this isn't the place for you.

Never eat here...the steak and shrimp were very salty...the veggies were not steamed all the way...and the steaks colors looked very ill...like all the floud were drained from the streak...wait staff ok not great...we waited for someone to assist with us to seat us got tired of waiting and sat ourselves at the bar 5hining the service will be faster not at all....super sux

Ended up leaving after 20 minutes no one ever even looked my way to wait on me! Was not even covered up handed my menu to manager and said well no one even looked my way have a good nigh.

I just got back from meeting 5 friends at Applebee's on Sycamore View in Memphis. It was close to the worst dining experience that I have ever had! Even in third world countries, I have eaten in cleaner and had better service! First restroom was nasty! Overflowing trash cans, wet paper towels on floor and looks as if there had never been any one to clean in weeks! After being seated, we asked for appetizer menu since it was after 9 PM and sign on front Advertised "half price appetizers after 9 PM" (as well as 2-5 PM)(see Picture!) Waitress showed us a new menu that is labeled "Starters". The appetizers were all new and different than before (first hint of problems to follow), We had a problem with one in our group who wanted a salad with thousand island dressing. This was not an option.... waitress said we only have 3 dressings, all of which were unacceptable due to the ingredients they contained! We called manager over and after some discussion he informed us that Thousand Island dressing is a "special order" from their vendors and would be available in a few weeks! The ordering process took over 40 minutes! After we had been finally served and presented the checks after a longer wait, the bills were all incorrect and all were charged at full price! The manager was called over again and informed us that only some appetizers are half price...none of the ones ordered by ANY of the five dinner guests! He said the menus were new and they did not show that only 1 or 2 items are half price! After explaining to him our total disgust with service, he finally reduced price! Applebee's used to be a great place to go, but as the lack of crowd (less than 10 people in place other than us) shows, most people have already learned of their problems! We have been meeting there for several years and often had to wait for a table.... obviously ever one else was informed of their downfall!
(1)Ronald M.
I have never been to an Applebee's without a horrible kitchen. But I've sat here at the bar for at least 45 minutes and watched at least 6-7 orders come out wrong without there being 20 minutes minimum to fix it after a 45-minute wait to bring out the original order. This is by far the worst Applebee's in the tri-state area.
(1)Josh D.
Place smelled like the carpets were real dirty. I sat at the bar like I do. The beers were cold, behind the bar looked dirtier than most places I've been in. I ordered a sirloin, rare, as they don't offer any other cut of steak. It came out cooked medium at best, and looked smaller than the little 9oz I ordered, as they offered nothing bigger (I've never ordered a steak that small in my adult life). So the steak was well overcooked, the red potatoes on the side were also overcooked, and the plate only had a few pieces of potatoes on it too. I was far from impressed with Applebee's. I won't be spending my money at this location again.
(2)Tomika C.
I wouldn't eat here ever again even if my meal was free. I had a very rude server and the my food was cold. What happened to the good restaurants that care if you come back?

So far so good. I like the ambiance of this new one on Sycamore View. Plus we must have come at the perfect time because shortly after we were seated our drinks came. Not long after ordering, the appetizers arrived. Fresh and warm:) My daughter and I ordered the 2 for $20 deal. She had the penne pasta w/ baked chicken and I had the riblet basket. We had the Queso dip for our appetizer and Brownie Bites for dessert. Our food was warm and served quickly. Not many people were here around this time (3:15-4:15) except a few groups who seemed to be having a business meeting and a luncheon. I saw several people sitting and eating with laptops so I'm guessing they have Wifi ...maybe. The only reason I didn't give the place a complete 5 stars is due to the fact of a group of employees standing around cackling. One girl was upset about them cutting hours. Another was transferring messages from sumone in the back to another lady on the floor. They seemed to be a little over staffed for the customers they had around this time. Needless to say, for their lack of something to do, I had to endure hearing all of their many conversations about hours getting cut, who cared, and who didnt. By the time we left, I knew everything that was going on with the employees that were just standing around talking. They were just walking around or yelling back & forth. Not professional Other than that everything was fine

Walked in the door, looked great. We sat down and it was all downhill from there. Our server took 15 minutes to bring our waters, and then didn't return for another 10 minutes. Keep in mind it was not busy at all at the time we were there. We got up and left, and as we were walking out, we passed our server and she calmly asked if we had "changed our mind." Terrible.
