Caesar Salad with grilled chicken is a miss. Too much ice berg lettuce, was excepting spring mix. Good chicken and dressing.

Probably one of my favorite restaurants in Memphis. My personal favorite has been the Lasagna, generally can't finish the portion,so I can save room for some excellent Cheesecake!

This is a great alternative to other 'chain' Italian restaurants. And, though there are a couple Amerigo's, it feels more authentic than the other places I have been. They always serve bread with cracked pepper and olive oil which is a great compliment. I have eaten several items on the menu and enjoyed them all. The prices range from about $10 to upwards of $30 for an entree depending on the item. However, I have found the cheaper items to be spectacular and the more expensive ones to be lackluster. There rarely seems to be a wait. Recomend: the Lasagna is quite good!

"Salmon on the plank was excellent, but I would like to have had another fish option; tilapia was the only other choice." Amerigo's is consistently good - regardless of where you go or what you order. Servers and hostesses seem well trained.

We really like Italian food, and try to try any Italian place when we come to a new area. And I'm not a pasta-loving Italian food person, so this makes it difficult. American is a smart-casual, pretty restaurant with nice black and white checkered floors and dark wood. You don't need to wear dress pants, but leave the t-shirt at home. Try the Italian Chopped Salad -- I do it sans ham, it's very good and I love the pepperoni. Wish I could buy it in bulk.

Good Italian place to visit when in Memphis. Nice atmosphere, good service, and good food. Parsnip soup was great!

We went to Amerigo for a Valentine's family dinner (brought baby along). The food was amazing! My husband had the Tuscan Ribeye (which was gone before I even knew what happened; luckily I snagged a taste) and I had the veal off the gluten-free menu, which I was especially pleased about. Our son scarfed down his chicken tenders kids meal (also yummy). Nice sized, well-presented portions with great service and a lovely atmosphere.

I met a friend recently on a Wednesday night after work at the Amerigo bar. We were pleasantly surprised to see that they have a special menu from 4:00-6:00. Many of the salad/appetizer items were $2-$4 and the entrees $10. I ordered the crab cake and a salad, from the appetizer menu, expecting them to be very small portions. The salad was a fabulous regular salad plate size and the crab cake was large and sitting on a bed of some delicious white bean concoction. It was delicious and both only cost $6!! They also had several different wines to choose from for $4. I will definitely be making my way back to Amerigo after work.

Service: 9 Food: 3 Worst.Pesto.Ever. A giant bowl of mediocre pasta swimming in a gallon of olive oil with some tiny chunks of basil/garlic/parmesan cheese. Over-cooked, dried-out, flavorless chicken breast on top. Inedible. Won't make the mistake of going to this place again.

I normally loathe Italian 'chain' restaurants, really I'd rather eat at 'Pete and Sam's' and have them open the can of tomato sauce than have the generic italian ('McRib' version of 'barbecue') you find at the Can ta-loni! Capriousoni! Olive-Oil-Whatever Grill/Garden 'Real Italian!' restaurant chains. I've eaten too many home cooked Italian meals, to know the difference. Having said all that (smart ass pill-taken) I went to Amerigo's with a large group of friends last week and really enjoyed the Fettuccine Imperial and my friend had a really choice steak and potato dish. They served the prerequisite focaccia bread with olive oil (but no balsamic on the table?) with the salads, which were large and fresh. Overall: good basic Italian 'restaurant' food, not awe-inspiring or even 'homey original' and they did have prompt friendly service.

Amerigo's is small chain of upscale Italian restaurants. The interior which consists mostly dark wood with constrasting yellow orange walls creates a cozy, intimate type atmosphere. On the tables is usually white paper on white tablecloths. The servers wears white shirts, ties and black pants. Amerigo's is open for lunch and dinner. Lunch is a bit less pricey than dinner. As far as the food goes, it fairly good. The bread sticks are dense and flavorful. I would recommend the chicken ravioli. Also, they have a portabello mushroom salad that i believe was featured in Southern Living magazine. The service there is usually spot on. A nice thing they do is wrap your doggie bag in plastic wrap so car doesn't smell like garlic later. also, their bathrooms are stocked with mouthwash and lotion. Also, save room for dessert because the tiramisu is quite the "pick me up."

its decent food if you have to go with a group for lunch. I have not had a bad meal there. It's just that if you are in that part of town for the same money you are halfway between 2 of my favs & much better italian...with LOCAL ownership and tastier food. Brooklyn Bridge at edge of gtown & Ciao Bella at poplar and mendenhall. bb has awesome dense cheese lasagna & best gnocchi. Ciao bella has top bartenders (rare for mem), a cute patio on the 3 days in memphis u can use it, great spanikopita ( i know not italian ) but great pastas.

Great place. The food is good and the service is always very attentive. Pleasant, low-key atmosphere with nice lighting. The management is very friendly and checks on us every time we dine here. The staff is very well trained. I really can't say enough good things about this place.

This is a great italian restuarant with great service and that sometimes is very rare to find now alot in restaurants. I normally go with my parents and relatives to Amerigos when there in town and never been dissapointed. Always have the swordfish its my favorite!!

Amerigo's is a upscale italian restaurant, and they offer early bird specials between 4-6 pm. Which offers a short list of items betweeen $6-10, which i consider quite a steal. They also offer wheat pasta, which makes me feel a little less guilty scarfing down the whole meal.

I really liked this place. I'll definitely be back when I return to Memphis. It has that nice romantic atmosphere for those who want that, but it isn't so overwhelming like some places, which was good because I was alone. The hostess writes your name down on a card that the server then picks up, which allows the server to then address you by name. Which is an awesome way to make a connection with your guests! The staple of any Italian restaurant is the bread and oil. In this case it wasn't the usual fluffy bread, but was more of a flat bread with many of the spices you usually find in the oil on the bread. The sausage and cheese pizza was good, though I did find myself wondering if the dough was frozen. The nicest part was the bill. I have grown accustom to spending a lot and getting something I could have made myself at an Italian restaurant, but Amerigo didn't leave me wondering if I was paying for the atmosphere first and the food second. It is definitely worth a return trip.

Amerigo's is one of my very favorite restaurants in Memphis. The service is impeccable and the ambiance is terrific. It is centrally located with easy parking. The food is outstanding, the bread is superb! I have tried this restaurant for lunch and dinner many times I have never been disappointed.

I have eaten here off and on for the past 5 years or so. Last night the hostesses and waiters are unfriendly. The place was nearly empty. Even so, the hostess acted like we were imposing on her when we showed up. The servers were not busy, yet we waited for bread. Our waitress was not helpful, and did the minimum to take care of our table. She seemed disappointed when we decided not to order the overpriced wine. The food is uneven -- sometimes great, sometimes mediocre. I agree with the other reviewers that the ambiance is nice, but we sat on these unpadded chairs that became more and more uncomfortable as the meal wore on. Our appetizers and entrees were too salty. It's a shame, because there are so few Italian places in Memphis.

Classy Italian restaurant. This place reminds me of those Italian restaurant in the movies. The place is a little dark, bar had all kinds of drinks and bottles, Italian music in the air, and the menu had all types pasta, sauces like marinara, and so on and on. The service was not that bad. They are pretty attentive, I had two waiters waiting on my wife and I. The food was excellent. Fried calamari and mussels were fresh and delish. Frutta de mare pasta had a lot of flavor and the filet was cooked right (medium rare) and very tender. Again the ambiance is cozy and family oriented Italian restaurant. The prices were not too bad all. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed at all.

I frequent Amerigos at least once per month. The salmon with beans and salsa is excellent as well as many of the salads. The bread is really good at times and just OK other times. Service is usually good, but the waiters consistently try to take the food and bread plates away too quickly before you are finished. This has happened numerous times, not sure why but it's irritating.

Went for a business lunch. Waitress was prompt, courteous and polite. I had never been... I thought it was a chain??? (Is it??) the food was actually really good. I had the apple grilled chicken salad... Asked for a special request. Said salad was delivered perfectly .... And was delicious! Definitely will be back. Always good to be pleasantly surprised!

I love everything about this place... The pizzas are so thin and flavorful, so good, the turamissu, pastas, but what makes my husband and I go crazy is the spicy shrimp bisque...Delish!!!! And the bill is always perfect for us going there with our two little kids. Plus friendly kids menu, they love the pepperoni pizza from this place. Gelatos are super yummy too, try the pistachio-chocolate-cherry gelato that has a name a always forget lol.

Had a date and we decided on Amerigo as our pre-movie spot. Cheese fritters were a tasty start, then we shared the apple salad and wild mushroom ravioli. Salad was excellent, but pasta was a letdown. Mushrooms were underwhelming, and I didn't really detect any wild mushrooms, just portobello. The "sauce" was just sautéed mushrooms, and I found myself hoping he would eat more so I could get a larger portion of salad!

The service was so great! All the staff were super friendly and helpful, I really felt welcomed. I tried the daily special - swordfish with braised greens and some sort of cheese-potato dish, all very good. So much food! And this particular dish was on the expensive side, but I was treating myself. I would definitely like to try this place again, if I have the chance!

I did not realize this is a small regional chain until I decided to write a review and happened to see what some of the others have said about it. We (party of 6) had dinner here for New Years Eve. Nothing about this place seems like chain. It felt like a nice upscale Italian restaurant. The service was great! Our server was slammed so another server took over quickly... and we wouldn't have known if he hadn't apologized/mentioned it. Drinks were good... we ordered a bottle of the Malbec which was excellent. The warm fresh bread and olive oil was fabulous! We were bummed to note they were out of the cheese fritters :(. We ordered the Bruschetta Amerigo and Caprese tower to start with. Both were pretty good. I liked the Bruschetta more. As entrees we shared the goat cheese and penne (worst thing we ate there), wild mushroom ravioli (best thing we ate! amazingggg!), layered eggplant casseruola (also very good) and the goat cheese and walnut salad (excellent). Overall experience was good! Great way to ring in the new years with food, wine and friends.

Tidy romantic atmosphere, great service, and the Food was wonderful. The specials were well planned, and everyone at our table tried one except for me, and we all walked away happy, full, and ready for more.

Though it's a regional chain, it still feels personal enough to bear a review. I've had many a delicious dinner there and have been a fan of their salads, so when my mom came to Memphis from out of town, I took her there for lunch, as I knew she'd never been. The atmosphere is upscale yet casual and the service was excellent. It was a Friday at about Noon and, though it was busy enough, I was surprised that it wasn't terribly crowded, given the location. We were seated quickly and our drink orders were taken promptly. We split a Caprese tower, which was delicious, though the tomatoes weren't top-tier. The presentation was great and the addition of sliced purple onions gave it a nice flavor boost. We both enjoyed a nice glass of chardonnay from a wine list that offers a nice variety of wines by the glass. I ordered the Goat Cheese & Walnut Salad with grilled chicken and Mom had the Chicken Acuto, a flame-grilled chicken over black bean salsa. Both were delicious. The salad greens were fresh and crispy and the dressing was perfect. The food at Amerigo is consistent, the ambiance is elegant and it's a can't-go-wrong place to take a friend or business associate for a nice meal.

Went with a party of 11 for my grandmothers birthday. Bar drinks took a while but other than that service was great. Had cheese fritters to start and was not disappointed. Ordered the sea bass special which was served on an actual cedar plank with sautéed zucchini and a cheesy potato leek au gratin. The sea bass was phenomenal but the "potato leek au gratin" ended up just being a mound of dried up mashed potatoes but the zucchini was pretty good. Shared an order of lasagna with my brother and that was yummy. Two in my group ordered the crustacean pasta and one loved but the other sent it back because It was too spicy for her taste. Our server did a great job taking care of the matter and got a new dish out fast. Shared a brownie for dessert that others enjoyed but I didn't like the nuts. Overall good experience! Will definitely go back.

A significant improvement to their beer selection. No longer "Bud, Bud Light, Mich, Mich Ultra" then straight to obscure selections at $10 a pop. Recently added new drafts, like Rogue Dead Guy and Blanche de Bruxelles (witbier)...and more. Now, some dull service and bland food improvements and we got ourselves a neighborhood gem. Still, sad to say, but I've had much better at Bravo!, Brio and Maggiano's. Never a bar crowd. Weird.

We had a positive experience at Amerigo's on Sunday evening, the atmosphere was nice, the wait staff attentive, polite and knowledgeable, and the food slightly above average. Half the party had wine by the glass, the other half cocktails which were enjoyed with an appetizer of Tuscan crab cakes. I had the goat cheese and penne with grilled chicken and a Caesar's salad, the others had the lasagna, the arugula salad with salmon and the cannelloni. I tasted the lasagna and cannelloni in addition to my pasta; the lasagna and cannelloni were better the penne with chicken. The prices seemed reasonable, $80 per couple (before tip) with two drinks each.

Amerigo's is one of my favorite east Memphis restaurants. I eat here regularly and find the food and service to be consistently good. The artichoke and cheese dip is worth a visit alone. I personally favor the Chicken Acuto and their Tuscan steak but, candidly, this is a restaurant that does a great job on everything on their menu. They have a nice wine list and the prices are fair.

Great atmosphere with a good location close to the office I was working at this week. The bread looked good, the salad with salmon was pretty good, and the spicy soup was pretty wonderful. I would definitely go back.

Nice atmosphere and good service but the food can be inconsistent. I've dined here many times and there's been times I'd give them four stars but this last time they get only three. The crab cake appetizer was tasty and the presentation was excellent, the only complaint I have is too much breading and not enough crab. We also ordered the Veal Picatta and the veal was way too tough. A good Veal Piccata should melt in your mouth or at least you should be able to cut it with your fork. This was tough. The sauce was good though. Finally, I had a version of their Eggplant Parmesan which was very good. Overall, this dinning experience was just OK.

I know, I know...it's a chain but hear me out. This is a small chain based in Nashville, Memphis, and Jackson, MS--so to me that's still fairly local--or at least puts it in a different league than the mammoth Italian restaurant chains--which I obviously don't need to name here. They do things right at Amerigos. I was introduced to Amerigos in Jackson, MS...and although the setup is slightly different in Memphis--it's the same great food and impeccable service. I've never been disappointed here. My staples are the Cheese Fritters (seriously tasty!), Caprese Salad, Chicken Marsala (with Mushrooms, Artichokes, and thick, savory sauce), and Tiramisu. The best thing about Amerigo's is their lunch menu...entrees are roughly $10 each. And they offer a Pizza/Salad/Soup combo if you didn't want to go for a regular meal. And vegetarians have good options here--without feeling like they're deprived. Amerigo's is the Park Place Shopping Center on Ridgeway so it's extremely convenient...and after lunch you can shop or get your nails done. :-)

I had a good meal. I had the bowtie pasta in vodka sauce which was awesome. I am a tiramisu fan and I did not like it. They tried to change it by putting their spin on it. It should not have been spun!

I was out furniture shopping on a Saturday afternoon, when I realized that I hadn't eaten since breakfast. I decided to try Amerigo's since I have had a few friends recommend it. This is not your run of the mill Itialian restaurant. My server did a great job of helping me figure out what to order. I tried the small order cheese fritters (so much more than the rubbery friend cheese to which most are acustomed) and small crab cake. Very glad that I didn't try to add a side salad. Everything tasted fresh, and the crab cake was served with a wonderful white bean salad. Service is friendly while remaining professional. Will definitely be back! It's also worth noting that this restaurant relies heavily on fresh, local produce. I wish that more chains would realize that it is possible to utilize fresh produce and rely on local farmers.

Alright. Last time I gave a 3-. After I tried it again 6 months later, I give a 3+ this time. I think, FINALLY, the 'new' manager has got his'old' fame back by an inch. Good for him. I ordered 'Roast vegetable on penny'. The presentation is 4+. Perfect cooked penny pasta mixed with roasted vegetable (yellow pepper, squash, sun-dried tomato, green onion) blended with fresh made pesto sauce. Flavor is plain. Need a punch on seasoning in my opinion. A touch of white pepper will do and use peeled roast pepper will rich the flavor more. Service is much better than last time. Our waiter is polite and arrogant (not a bad thing for an above average restaurant). We were attended well. Wine list is very good as always. I will check them again next time to see if it is just a one time luck.

I recently visited Amerigo's with a group of coworkers and each us of just loved it. The interior has a very classy and elegant feel to it. When you come in the entrance that faces Ridgeway, you are greeted by a very friendly host and behind them is a bar that has Amerigo's wood burning grill. The menu is huge and has a great number of choices. It is a bit pricey for lunch, but the portion size was huge. Our waitress was a real pro, she answered all questions with ease and told us of the daily specials (there were 3 that day I think). I ended up going with the wood plank salmon and it was cooked perfectly. The mashed potatoes that came with it were the creamiest that I'd ever had. All of us received our food rather quickly and our waitress did a great job of taking care of us through the meal. She always made sure that we had plenty to drink, but she was never annoying. All in all, I'd go there again in a heartbeat.

Chicken fettucini imperial is really good here- and, reasonably priced at about 12 bucks, if I remember right. The wait staff is attentive. Lines can form here. Get here early!

Upon settling in for the first of what turned out to be two dinners that night (long story) I ordered my usual Maker's manhattan. It came served in a smaller than usual martini glass, with the rest of the drink in a small carafe in an ice water bath to keep the rest cold while I enjoyed the first half. Very nice touch. I went for the goat cheese penne (I love me some goat cheese), which came with tomatoes, sun dried tomatoes, and chicken (well, that ad goat cheese and penne pasta, but I'm assuming you figured that part out already), and started with a side salad. The salad was actually rock solid - weeds, roasted red peppers, tomatoes and onions with a nice balsamic vinaigrette. The pasta was missing something - as the French say, a certain "I don't know what." Maybe a drizzle of olive oil. Maybe a little sauce. Something. It just didn't seem complete as it was. All the ingredients were good on their own - well seasoned chicken, yummy goat cheese - but it needed something to bring it all together. I'd really like to give this place a second shot to get a final opinion on the place, but as of right now I'm left with a 4 star place that could end up swinging either way - to a 3 or to a 5 depending on a second experience.

I frequent this restaurant about every 2 months and it is always consistent with decent efficient service. The cheese fritters are yummy for a starter. I love the goat cheese salad with walnuts and it tends to be huge but they always accommodate if you choose to share it. The grilled planked salmon is my go to dish and is never a disappointment. The friends who ordered pasta were very pleased. Wine list is respectable.

This is to recognize Amerigo's efforts at beefing up their beer menu. Had a Stone IPA there last time. They are bringing in some good beers and some that other places don't carry. Kudos to them, and keep up the good work.

Yes, it's a chain. But it's such a good one. And I have a good friend that swears Amerigo has the best sea bass in town. I think Tsunami has them beat on that particular item, but only barely. This is an Italian restaurant, so you have your choice of all the traditional pasta dishes like Spaghetti and Lasagna. But they also have really good steaks here too. I especially like the Filet with gorgonzola and rosemary butter. The Tuscan Ribeye is good too. Oh, be sure and start with the Cheese Fritters. They have been featured in Bon Appetit and are fantastico!

I love Amerigo. This is one of my absolute favorite places. They have great vegetarian selections like the portobello salad and the pasta primavera. They also have wonderful cedar plank dishes as well as excellent desserts. The tiramisu is some of the best. I have only had less than spectacular food on rare occasions. It is almost always a great choice. Oh and the brunch is amazing!!

Great atmosphere of an Italian restaurant. Good service and tasty food. We ordered pizza, which was a little on the small side but ok and a seafood dish which was average.

We had a pleasant meal here. The waitress was a sweetheart! The cheese fritters were delicious and had a good contrast in texture but I found the calamari to be rubbery and difficult to chew. The veal piccata was very tasty, the accompanying polenta rich and creamy. The place has a comfy and warm feel. Personally, I don't care if there are three Ameriagos. It's no chain to me.

I love this place! A friend at work suggest it and thankfully because I would have never stumbled on it. Place is dimmly lit, feels upscale but, family owned and at great prices. I could eat the bread and oil all day but, they have dinner too. I have tried the chicken margarite $12 with both the marinara and the garlic olive oil. The chicken is fire grilled and amazing. I want to try the pizza but the chicken always wins. If you aren't into BBQ, this is the place.

You can't tell from the outside, but once your are in the door, BAM! This place is sophisticated, classic and romantic. I was very comfortable here. And the price is surprisingly low for the menu selections. Plenty of room for groups, family or "Just The Two of Us". Everything was perfect! The service, the food, the ambience. Coming here on a raining Sunday afternoon, was soo romantic! I must go again soon!

Extremely disappointed. Spouse had ordered calamari , which was mediocre at best. Her chicken Dish came with a lb of angel hair pasta that looked like a mound of glop.Waiter also agreed and took it back. Spouse lost appetite and wanted to leave after I finished. Manager came over and never apologized for her experience. We thought he may have comped the frozen calamari but no. My advise is to stay away from the pasta dishes .

Well, I can say the food/service was not good. I ordered the Wahoo fish special which was very dry and way over cooked. The wife got the filet mignon, and it was way under seasoned and slightly over cooked. Next the service. Possibly worse than the food. Our waiter was uninterested in being pleasant and with a party of 9, he made close to $100 and seemed annoyed the entire time. Also, he charged my dinner to my buddies card only for my buddy to see two charges of $110 on his bank account. He obviously voided one charge but never let him know, causing him to have his card declined at the bar later. Lastly, the restaurant was extremely warm. He even said it was 75 degrees and needed to speak with manager. Nothing was done about it and we sat there and roasted!!! All in all, overpriced, overhyped, and won't waste my time again.

Admittedly, I haven't had the food in a while, so this review is strictly for the bar. I'm female, and I love a great, craft beer. What I don't like is when a sexist bartender assumes that I wouldn't be interested in a Trappist ale or another Belgian beer because I'm female. If I ask for your full beer list, just hand it over. Thanks.

I have been going to Amerigos for many years and I must say the food and service has gone down hill. I have been three times in the last six months and each visit for worse and worse. The food isn't anything like it used to be and the service is lacking. Very disappointing as this used to be one of our favorite places.

I was on a business trip in Memphis, and needed to find a nearby reasonably priced restaurant; so, yelp led me to Amerigo Italian Restaurant. Turns out I had a friend I had known since kindergarten in Memphis as well, so she met me for dinner, and while I was waiting, the waitress made sure she brought me my first glass of wine. They had a fairly expansive menu, with about every main Italian dish you could expect at an Italian restaurant. I ordered the pasta with goat cheese and sun dried tomatoes, which was pretty good. I'm a sucker for goat cheese, and I also loved sun dried tomatoes, so it was a win-win for me. The glasses of wine were a little on the pricey side for Memphis. This is only the second time I'd traveled to Memphis but I believe our glasses were around $9, which just seems wrong for middle America. Or is Memphis considered the south? Anyway, my experience was just as this review suggests: A-OK. They did have some pretty bomb bread as well, which is always a plus in my books as I could live on bread and butter for the rest of my life if I could.

I love Amerigo. Spent New Years Eve with friends and we dined at Amerigo. Service was fantastic,, Artichoke cheese dip was wonderful and the cedar plank sea bass was to die for!! Recommended to everyone!

So, my better half and I are in Memphis for a mini-vacation of blues music, beer and BBQ. So somehow we wind up at an Italian food place. All I have to say about that unlikely chain of events is "thank goodness it happened!" Good ole Yelp came through in the clutch here. Found Amerigo and we decided to give it a shot as a change of pace. I knew we were on the right track as soon as we walked in the door. Very nice decor and atmosphere. Waitstaff was very friendly, attentive and informative. Now on to the food: My wife chose the eggplant parmigiana with a house salad to start. I chose the pepperoni pizza, also with a salad to start. First, the salads... wonderful mix of greens with roasted red bell peppers mixed in. Great salad, but the red peppers put it over the top. Main entrees: Wife said the eggplant was wonderful. My pizza was probably the best that I have ever had. Perfect thin crust with just the right amount of sauce and pepperoni... but here is the kicker... they also put a generous amount of the roasted red bell peppers on it as well. That just made it perfect. Great place... our only complaint is that we live 500 miles away in Texas and cannot go back anytime we want. If you are in Memphis and want a break from all the great BBQ give this place a shot... you'll be glad you did.

We were in town from Atlanta, for a soccer tournament and the restaurant was close to our hotel. It was a reliable Italian eatery, similar to Maggiano's at home, but with a less extensive menu. The salad was a bit limp and overdressed, but the other items we ordered were all tasty. The eggplant stack was the highlight, but the pasta pomodoro was also very good.

This was my first restaurant experience in Memphis, TN. It's in an outdoor mall area. Once you enter inside, it's very nice. I had the sirloin steak with fries. It was great quality and the service was very good,

Wow, what happened to this place? We'd been here many times in the past...favorites in the past included a spectacular cedar-plank Chilean seabass. But this last visit was truly disappointing. The steamed mussels portion seemed downright skimpy and was completely devoid of any flavor. But the biggest crime was the crustacean pasta...a huge pile of lukewarm soggy pasta drowned in a watered-down alfredo sauce devoid of any seasonings. There were scattered shrimp, some shreds of crab, but no crawfish to speak of. I barely touched it and was almost inclined not even bothering taking it home...and that's REALLY uncharacteristic of me. Ughh...I shudder even thinking of that meal.

I ate there for a graduation dinner and the food was wonderful. I had the Marsala with chicks the meat was well seasoned and wonderful tender. Several people at our table had the lasagna and they had raving reviews. Cost effective for special family dinners with excellent servers!!!!

I agree with Elisha Cuthbert, "There is nothing more romantic than Italian food." And in Memphis good Italian food is hard to find. I have to admit that I rarely go past I-240. I mostly stay in the midtown/downtown area. But that will change now that Amerigo is on my radar. This place is awesome and not just because I'm obsessed with black and white tile on the floor. The food is delicious - huge portions cooked with love. (I never leave with doggie bags and I left with two.) For an appetizer, I insist that you try the artichoke cheese dip. Oh-em-geeeee! It was just a little bit of heaven. And any pasta dish on the menu is divine. Another thing I like about this place is that it has an understated elegance that makes it perfect for a date, dinner with friends, or even a night out with the family. It is my new go-to place!

The resturant is big on high class attire and fine dining. Unfortunately I came under dressed and oblivious to the food. The food was great. They are very generous with serving size. And the food was somewhere right between great and average. Leaning toward the great side more than the average. May come back. Good for proffesional parties or get togethers

This place is beautiful, like the ambiance would lead you to believe you're in a very nice establishment, in reality not everything is quite on pointe. Several things are VERY good, some things, including some of the food, are just ok. Most of the food was indeed pretty good. I will note, two of my dining companions ordered the fillet ($30) medium rare, one had still moo-ing cow, the other had basically medium steak. Shame that, they both also indicated that the mashed potatoes were cold and had a dry powder and glue consistency. I shook my head. My own pork chop with julienned vegetables and leek-cheese mashed potatoes was actually excellent. Pretty much I looked at all 4 other dishes at my table and they kind of paled in comparison, I think some dishes are much better than others. Service was very good, our waiter was really nice, not particularly attentive (we had to drag him back to ask for a second bottle of wine??) but nice enough. It's definitely a step up from chain italian, but they have some things they can work on...

Memphis has far fewer Italian places than anywhere else I have ever lived, I don't get it. Everyone likes Italian. Fortunately it does have Amerigo's, which does a great job of representing Italian food. Yes, it's a chain, but not a big one (two Nashville and one Jackson Mississippi location). Service is always friendly, food is fairly authentic, and the menu represents styles from both Northern and Southern Italy. It's slightly upscale, not fancy or stuffy but classy. They have a number of great options for kids making it very family friendly. The only thing I'm not wild about is their complementary bread, but most people I dine with tell me I'm crazy on that point.

  • David M.

Carrie W's review is exactly right about the ambiance of the dining room: it sets expectations higher than the food delivers. We all agreed that our meals were what a premium Olive Garden would serve. It's certainly not authentic italian (neither North or South), and yet is also not that basic style you can forgive at hole-in-the-wall Italian-American places, either. I'm not from the city, state, or even region, and my tastes and Italian food expectations are clearly different than most of the Yelpers that really like this place. So considering that Memphis doesn't have many Italian options, as many reviews mention, maybe Amerigo is relatively pretty good. But if I had to go to a chain, I'd pick Carrabba's over this. (Keep in mind I haven't been to Carrabba's in 7 or 8 years, so maybe that's not true any more. I don't plan on finding out.)

Always a good meal and strong drinks that are well worth the price. The last time we had dinner there, our server was amazing. She was efficient and helpful without being overbearing and even added extra bread and olive oil in with my leftovers. Small gesture, but as a lover of their bread, it went a long way. One of our favorite places!

This visit was a little disappointing. Things started out great - our server did a fantastic job explaining the day's special. Our drinks arrived and from there things started slipping. The restaurant had only about 10 tables seated but our server rarely came by to check on us. I am the type of person that is very comfortable waiting for my food to come out but an hour is a bit much. I got the wrong salad. It took 15 minutes to finally get salt and pepper. One of our party said her Chicken Masala was very bland. My Smoked Turkey Panini on the other hand was so smoky and salty that I could hardly eat it. I am usually very pleased with the food and service here but this was a wasted 2 hour event.

Hold this thought for later on in the review... This upcoming weekend will mark 3 months of me living in Memphis. Since then, I have managed to lose 45lbs off this frame of mine. With that being said, I can still eat like a champ when needed. I was invited to eat lunch with TMB, who I had not seen in quite some time. She had made reservations for us for 11:30. I was almost late, as I realized one thing seems to be common in MEM- none of the damn parking lots seem to connect in this city! So, if you are coming north on Ridgeway, make sure you turn in AFTER the fitness center, not into it... I finally got spot, and I realized this place is a decent size! What door should I go in? I think I made it to the right one. When I entered through the double doors, I was greeted by the friendly hostess. I told her what the reservation was under, and she asked if I wanted to wait or get seated. I told her whatever was easiest for her. So I was escorted to a table near the back. The décor is nice, with dark woods, black and white tile, brushed tan walls, and lots of shiny leather. It reminded me of a refined dining spot back in the day. I digged it! The waitress (I think her name was Malca?) came up to me and got my drink order. Since I had to be at work afterwards, I had to stick to the ole Coke (they have coke!!! hell yea!). Now I had not eaten since around 7PM the previous day, so I was starving. I thought I could eat one of everything on the menu! And the TMB arrived, and that's when things changed. Getting to see her was a wonderful feeling. We got to catch up on things which was great. She asked me if everything was alright. The past few weeks have been rough, but that all changed with this lunch. So we started off with the artichoke cheese dip, and I got the salmon plank special, she got the tilapia plank special. The menu is vast, and fairly priced. I don't think I saw anything over $18, and that number is still being generous. Our server was very informative with everything and took decent care of us. We got some bread and then the dip came. It looked pretty hot, so I waited a few. I didn't realize until later the crisps that came with the dip were baked in parm cheese. It was great! But I ended up taking that home with me. Then the entrees came out. They were like on 2 foot platters, with the mash and veg on them. I had not seen that before, that was interesting! Now, remember what I said in the first paragraph? I could only eat like 3-4 bites at the time. The butterflies in my stomach just prevented me from eating. Call me lame, oh well, but it happens to even a BA like myself. The server was nice enough to box up my salmon and the dip, and her tilapia. I ended up eating my food at work today- it was decent! Wish the salmon had a bit more seasoning, but its all good. The worst part about today was having to say good-bye, but like the old saying, "all good things must come to an end". I will definitely have to come back and show TMB I can eat more than three bites. Thank you for a wonderful beginning to a day! Cheers!

If you are ever in town, this is a great place to stop in to and grab dinner. It is the small things that really impress me: 1. Amazing crotons on the salad. Yes, crotons. Amazing I said they were! 2. Excellent olive oil with unique herbs. The bead had a very intriguing texture, almost like a corn bread. 3 I'm always a sucker for perfect green beans. These were exactly perfect. Not a lot of spice, salt or pepper, just cooked well and they let them do all the (flavor) heavy lifting on their own.

Good food and probably one of the top 3 Italian restaurants in Memphis (although that isn't saying much). I had the calamari, caesar salad, and chicken parmesan. All items were good but not 5 star great worthy. I will say that I was very impressed with the craft beer menu. I studied the beer menu like I was selecting a fine wine. Good job on the beer selection.

Great local restaurant with amazing food!! There are quite a few chain restaurants right in the area but this place is def worth venturing out to try something new.

Traveling for work, just hit my third trimester today... and Italian sounded good (plus it was close to my hotel). Started w the cheese fritters- yum!! I had the cannelloni al forno. It was edible, but I would recommend something else. For dessert I had the pecan butter crunch cake. Wow. I highly suggest this dessert! It will satisfy your sweet tooth! My service was excellent and the atmosphere is relaxing, with dim lighting. Most ideal for a date.

This is a to go place amongst all the pizza serving restaurants that I have been till date. They serve real fast!!! I haven't seen any pizza chains or restaurants serving so fast that too they are fresh and baked to order. All the ingredients aw so fresh and there is no canned food at all. The combo with half pizza and salad is the best!

We had Brunch on Easter Sunday which is hard for any restaurant to pull off completely. We also had a large party of 8 people which is also a challenge to please everyone. I had the Lamb because I love Lamb and especially like it on Easter however while very tasty what I was served tasted like a nicely done beef pot roast, not Lamb. I have enjoyed many fine meals at this establishment and certainly will be returning. I love the Fish served on a wood plank and the pastas are always good. Our service was good and attentive.

We arrived semi late for dinner and were sat in a two person booth next to the bar after a very short wait. I really didn't dig the location of the table right next the back door and on top of the very crowded, high traffic service bar but I'll stop being a little bitch now... We had the Cheese Fritters for an appetizer based on suggestions from friends. Good, very good in fact. I really don't like mustards but I could totally dig the two sauces together. Very nice dish. I can see why they were featured in some stupid magazine. For dinner my wife had Crab Tortellini and I had my go to Veal Parmesan. Charity's was just ok in my opinion. It lacked any real flavor to me and the crab meat looked kind of weak and dry when it arrived just scattered on top of the pasta. My veal was above average on its own. It was still crunchy and tender enough to only use a fork. Bravo! My only complaint is (Adam starts bitching again) like almost all other Italian places, everything has too much sauce! I had to rake that crap off just to get to the meat! Back off, I promise I will still feel the same without the half gallon of sauce. Pasta underneath was negligible as I really don't dig red sauce pastas. We will be back! I think I'll like it again with something different. The menu looked good.

Foccicia bread tasted homemade and is well worth the carbs , I also loved the spicy olive oil served with it. Mimosa tasted fresh squeezed and was very bubbly My three cheese tortellini was good but the cheeses must have been in the sauce because I don't believe it was in the torellinis. The touch of spice was perfect and made it more exciting The heaping tablespoon of lump crab meat served on top smelled fishier than I expected but was good and there was almost enough of it Waitress was sweet but a little slow. I forgive her though, it was Easter Very good key lime pie with whipped cream that tasted homemade. I came very close to giving it four stars but the torellini was only average.

So I had the pleasure of going to this restaurant with a good friend of mine to celebrate my new job. For an Italian Restaurant, I thought the food was pretty good. I arrived a little after my friend and was promptly seated and served a beverage. They have a nice sized menu so we took a while to decide. When I was done, I decided to ordered a spring mixed salad and the five layer lasagna, while my friend ordered a spring mixed salad as well and the lake farm's catfish with mac n cheese and greens. Before our entrees were delivered, the waiter brought us bread and our salads. I thought the bread was pretty good and the salad tasted great. My five layer lasagna was delicious, I ate it all up lol. While my friend greatly enjoyed her entree, she especially loved the mac n cheese. For dessert, the waiter told us what the specials were. Apparently they have cheesecake from the Cheesecake Corner, daily selections. Although I like Kevin's cheesecake, I opted to try their tiramisu which I thought tasted great. Overall, I had a pleasant experience at Amerigo Italian Restaurant. I will definitely be back for the good service, delicious food and great company.

The servers we're friendly and fast and everyone including the manager pitched in to make sure we were accommodated properly. The food was awesome. Can't wait to visit again. Only reason 5* wasn't given is because the waitress we had was a little forgetful but she was still good and worth her gratuity.

It had been awhile since we had been to Amerigo's, but the food is still good. A friend had suggested I try the Pork Chop. The 12 ounce chop was moist and well-seasoned and the tomato jam improved the flavor. Oh, and the sweet potato and pecan hash was delightfully enhanced with Chili oil - quite tasty. Although the food was good, we did have 12 in our group, there was a wait for the ordering and food delivery as might be expected, but our server was very attentive to everyone's needs. Regardless, the pleasant food left us all full and satisfied. If it's been awhile since you've been too, go back and have a great meal.

This is by far my favorite Italian restaurant in Memphis. The lighting, decor, and music are perfect. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and attentive. The selection of local beer is refreshing. The menu is varied enough to have something for everyone without being obnoxious. I have never tasted anything from Amerigo's kitchen that did not impress me. My favorite for 3 years has been the tortellini with crab. It is simply indulgent! You can't go wrong! They even have great lunch specials!

I have been pleasantly surprised by Amerigo's. I expected fast casual "Olive Garden"-esque food. However, they are not! The restaurant looks super fancy with exposed wood and an open dining area. The menu is large with many options. The food portions are plentiful even for large appetites (ahem...like me). I ordered the Fettucini Imperial. It was Fettucini Alfredo with chicken, mushrooms and pancetta. For us, country folks, that's fancy bacon. Lol. Anyway, definitely worth a try. Prices are very fair. My entree was $13 plus $4 for a side Caesar salad. I left stuffed and in a carbohydrate coma.

Amerigo offers a very relaxing atmosphere. They have happy hour deals and great prices on kids meals. The food isn't amazing, but I do enjoy their Mediterranean salad. It is a meal ! Grilled Chicken or salmon, greens, capers, olives, pecans, cheese, sundried tomatoes, penne wheat pasta, all in a red pepper and balsamic sauce.

I went here for the first time last week to meet a friend for lunch, and it was great! The greeter and wait service was warm and efficient. We were quickly seated and served drinks. Followed by our orders! The complimentary bread that's brought out is FANTASTIC! I wanted to eat more but didn't want to embarrass myself in front of my guest. They have a good lunch menu and I ordered their Italian Club sammi. And when it came out, it was HUGE. I ate half of this delicious piece of art and took the rest to work to consume later. It didn't last in the fridge two hours before I finished it off. It's all I could think about at my desk! And the smell stayed in the office. Check this place out for a good lunch! I plan on taking my girlfriend to dinner here soon.

I was here with a large group on a Friday night. The private area we were in had curtains separating us from another area and the noise level was not acceptable to my mind. We could hear the other areas of the restaurant clearly. It was possible to talk to those close to you but not to hear clearly the presentation being done at the other end of the 2 tables of 8-10 people. It seemed the food was enjoyed by all, however I noted several issues. Food arrived in bursts by type so several of us had to wait watching others eat both main course and dessert. When my meal arrived the fish was on the just over cooked side but acceptable. My salad had several mushy black leaves in it. The servers were pleasant and helpful. The gluten free menu was well thought out with items that would be attractive to even those not gluten restricted. The washrooms were clean and pleasant. Parking was not challenging in the large lot. I would happily eat here again, just not as part of a group if I could avoid it. I certainly would not chose it for a group venue if planning an event.

Decent food and friendly waitstaff. Their 4p - 6p early bird special is great! I was disappointed when I went with a group of 6 and we ran into two other friends who wanted to sit with us. They already had a table, and we requested another two chairs at our table so they could move. We were told they had reservations for two groups and couldn't accommodate us. There were lots of empty smaller tables. We ate separately, and our other friends came by to visit, but I'm done with Amerigo.

I like the atmosphere in here, it's very nice. Our waiter was very friendly. The bruschetta was good. I got the pasta pomodoro. Very tasty, I like that theirs has capers. My boyfriend got the chicken margarite with the garlic butter sauce, which he said was good but a little too rich. The only problem we had was that there was something in both of our water glasses and one of my cups was dirty, but that's no huge deal. Overall, we were pleased and will likely return.

The guy who delivered the food to the table walks up and plants that big boy in front of Scott. I said, "Nope! That goes to the fat chick right here." And pointed to the table in front of me. Lol. I had my heart set on scallops, but when I heard the special, I couldn't pass up the Delmonico. I haven't seen one served around here and they are my favorite cut. I took over half of it home, but I couldn't pass it up. It didn't disappoint. The Tuscan rub was light with sometimes just a passing flavor, perfect for not overwhelming the perfection that is a Delmonico. And I must say it was cooked perfectly. Are you getting the picture? It was perfect. On to the rest of the meal. Started with the Calamari Fritti. It was lightly battered and had a good flavor, not rubbery at all. The marinara sauce needed a little salt I felt, but the pesto was amazing. It was extremely complimentary to the calamari and I was pleasantly surprised. We each had the Caesar salad. Nothing special there. I was a little disappointed in the croutons which seemed to be those itty bitty cheap versions at your local grocery store. The greens were a little limp. The dressing was pretty good, if a little heavy handed. Grated parm, meh. The aforementioned perfect Delmonico was served with parm truffle fries. They were fresh and crispy. I was torn between too much truffle oil and just right. All in all, I was happy to eat them. The sautéed green beans were thin, crispy, and right tasty. I will add that it was probably a meal that 2 people could split. I took over half of it home. I tried a bite of steak this A.M. when I got up and it was amazing even cold. FYI My beau's salmon was exceptional. Light, melt in your mouth, flavorful without being "too fishy." It seemed to have a hint of jalapeño without the heat to me, but he didn't notice. He loved it. And again, we took home half. This was the early bird portion as well. In the past we've had a most excellent cedar plank sea bass. We found the bruschetta rather soggy for our taste. And while we had the cheese fritters, I think we liked them, but I really can't recall. I've eaten at the Amerigo in Nashville years ago and remember I really enjoyed it. Which was why I was happy to find one here and so close to our home. The ambiance is eclectic and comfy. The bar seating is evocative of the stately, old men's clubs. The restaurant seating is intimate even in the extra large booths. Last, but definitely not least. SERVICE. We have always had exceptional service. From extensive knowledge of the menu, to honest "I don't know, let me check's." Our glasses stay full and our table quickly clears of empty dishes. Shout out to our server last night, I believe her name was "Kat." Thank you! All in all, one of my favorite restaurants so far in Memphis. Since I can't give 4.5 stars, I'm going with 5.

I hadn't been to Amerigo in years, but when a girlfriend suggested meeting for drinks in that area, I remembered their awesome happy hour. $5 hour wines and lots of food specials. We both went with the house Cab, which honestly wasn't too bad. I had a side Caesar salad, and we shared the roasted chicken pizza. Good food. Great happy hour prices. And the service was attentive and nice. I need to remember to stop in more often.

Have never had a bad meal here! The only downside is inevitably we forget to make a reservation on a weekend and the wait is over an hour. Things I tend to order include the famous cheese fritters (OMG large portion, please), the croissant basket at brunch (served with Nutella and homemade jams), the 1/2 and 1/2 lunch combos, and ALL pastas for dinner. There is also an enormous private room you can reserve for larger gatherings. They also offer a loyalty card for which you get 5% back after spending $200 and lots of other special things like birthday coupons and dessert/appetizer freebies.

Service is fantastic. Our waiter was the nicest guy. I wanted him to pull up a chair and have dinner with us. We started out at the bar where I tried a Mule on Rouge...it was good and I'd order it again. The bar was a nice mix of young and old and was comfortable. I could have hang out there for awhile. I want to say my friend ordered a Tybalt's Revenge? She gave it a thumbs up. For dinner I had the cedar plank pork chop with asiago and leek potatoes and julienned zucchini and squash. I also ordered angel hair with a pesto cream sauce (not on the menu), and the shrimp bisque. The pasta was delicious. I loved it. The shrimp bisque was tasty too (I could have it for breakfast!) The pork chop was a bust though. Our adorable waiter suggested a plank item and did his best to describe the chop to me but I didn't understand...it was more like a thick slice of ham with glaze on it than what I was thinking of when I heard "chop." When he asked me about it during the meal I told him it wasn't my favorite at all but not to worry, the pasta was a score and I was content. Much later when our check came, he disclosed that the plank chop was on the house - he knew I'd ventured outside of my comfort zone and they want their customers to be happy. I really appreciated this a great deal. I wish I could remember his name. My friends ordered the goat cheese and penne with chicken, and the chicken pizza pie. They were happy with their meals. We all shared a tiramisu which my friend remembered to be better - it was missing that coffee flavor that usually hits you in the face (which I actually loved). I will say that the atmosphere is a tad demure...only by a hair though. My friends can be loud and I felt just a smidge outside of comfortable with their jovial spiritedness this particular night. Give it a whirl.

Probably the WORST dining experience I've ever had, and I've had a few. I've never felt so ignored by bartenders/servers as I have here tonight. They seem much more interested in the "regulars" I guess then me. Took me (there were two tending to a total of less then 10 patrons) over 30 minutes to order a cup of soup and a salad. The soup (gumbo) came out rather quickly and the salad has yet to make an appearance 45 minutes later and no one has bothered to ask. I "used" to frequent this restaurant every time I was in town and I'm in town quite frequently staying at a nearby hotel, no more. There are way to many other quality restaurants in the area. By the way, I typed this entire tirade on my iPhone while waiting for SOMEONE to ask if I needed anything OR bring my salad.

Visited this restaurant for the first time with coworkers and I was impressed with the service provided for 20+ people. The servers we're friendly and fast and everyone including the manager pitched in to make sure we were accommodated properly. The food was awesome. Can't wait to visit again. Only reason 5* wasn't given is because the waitress we had was a little forgetful but she was still good and worth her gratuity.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
