The location is in a strip mall like building and the atmosphere and seating was just like it sounds-- straight out of a catalog order of restaurant furniture. The menu had a lot to offer! Everything from burgers to Greek Salad, to huge cakes and pies and finally Pizza and Italian cuisine. Service was ok. My water glass was empty most of the time. They serve some great breadsticks, but the sauce tasted like undercooked blended tomatoes, not much flavor. I ordered the margarita pizza and it didn't have a great flavor and the crust wasn't that good either, it was greasy for a pan pizza. The tomatoes became really mushy and We tried the dessert. The chocolate cheesecake was crumbly and a dry. Flavor was good, but texture was not so interesting. So many wonderful restaurants in Knoxville area, I couldn't add this one to the must try list.

While sitting in a mexican restaurant, munching on queso and chips; my girlfriend had the epiphany that she was craving a Gyro. With little yelp app magic and a phone call, Gondolier seemed like the best option nearby. She said it was good other than wishing the gyro she had was all lamb and no beef. However, I have to say... I kinda hated it there. The environment was so noisy we couldn't hear each other. The breadsticks were soggy, the maranaria sauce tasted awful. The food took forever to come out. I had to send back the Stromboli I ordered. If it weren't for the staff being courteous, I would have rated this place much lower.

If you know anything about good Italian food, stay away from the Gondolier! Worse lasagna I've ever had and the desserts must be shipped in from some awful bakery!

My brother and I decided to give it a try today and we both ordered the baked spaghetti. Was tasteless, very bland. The owner or management disputed our issues saying it was fresh. Not an issue of freshness rather lacking flavor. One star for our pleasant waitress otherwise avoid this place on your travels.

So we stopped here on a whim. So glad we did. It was later in the evening and you could tell the dinner crowd was thinning out. The meal started with unexpected complimentary breadsticks and a really good red sauce. This was followed by a great meatball ( Italian wedding) soup. Pizza was great and really good flavor. But the thing not to miss is the amazing MilkyWay cake! Do not leave without this!!! Thanks guys! We will be back.

Been many times, and the menu is hit or miss. The waitress was either off her game or bad, it wasnt extremely busy, and I consistently went without a drink and spent several minutes without a fork. Tonight I had the "Tour of Italy" and only the spaghetti and house salad were up to par. Lasagna and chicken parm in particular were awful- chick parm was clearly a frozen dark meat patty (fwiw I prefer dark meat, but this was raunchy stuff). I suggest sticking with the bowl of spag or a pizza, both are consistently good. Breadsticks are always A+, and make sure to grab a handful of flavored mint candies at the register, I prefer the pink flavor.

Pizza is delicious. Meat used in Cannolino needs to be seasoned more. Average. All sauces, marinara, and entree meat sauces tast the same. Wasn't the worse I've ever had but not the best by far. Would eat there again for the pizza.

In my opinion, I'd rather eat here than the more expensive O.G. chain. The food for the price is better along with the atmosphere. While there salads are your typical dressing and lettuce house style. The sauce for their Italian dishes is very flavorful. It doesn't taste as if its been poured out of a jar. Pasta is always cooked al dente and the deserts..... well you'll have to experience that. Lets just say, oh my!

This place has Good pizza. Tried the BBQ chicken and the chicken Alfredo florentine! We were scared to try anything with red sauce because of the marinara that is given to you with the free bread sticks. It's awful, it tastes like tomato soup right out of the can. How that ever passed for marinara I will never know. I take 2 stars off for that.

A couple of friends and I ended up here when we were completely tired of heading to Robbinsville, NC, for food. Since we really needed to stop at Wal Mart, we headed to Maryville, except that we wanted to stay on 411, so Gondolier it was. It's a good thing I was later up until the sun came up, considering this food is so not the best thing for 10pm. The menu is rather huge, full of everything from typical Italian dishes to Greek to all sorts of wraps and sandwiches, making it pretty tough to decide. I ordered an Italian sausage parmesan sub, and it was at least a third larger than what I was expecting. I barely made it through half even though I was absolutely starving. Three out of the four with me ordered chicken parmesan, and the last had chicken alfredo - he was the only person to finish...it was quite awe inspiring. Having food to take back that a) wasn't fast food and b) could be eaten past 9pm in any case was great. Our server, Ryan, was totally awesome. Even though we came in so late, he was really enthusiastic because he loves to work at night. I was really amused when he had been listening to our conversation about idiots who rev their engines next to us at red lights and he says, "that means it's rice time!" I was not expecting that and it made him that much more awesome. The food really is nothing amazing but it's good if you're staying near the Tail of the Dragon and want something close to 129, but not in Robbinsville. Just don't put yourself into a food coma while running the Dragon on the way back.

Well I've been here a few times and I think the best part of this place is the dessert. The service is usually terrible even with management hovering over the employees. The pizza is pretty good and I usually go for one of the white pizzas. Like I said before the dessert is usually fantastic. Though. Its definitely worth a trip to try it.

Tennessee and Italian food go surprisingly well together in a restaurant called Gondolier. The menu is broad, Italian and Greek. Mostly Italian. The food is outstanding for a family restaurant. Leave room for the desserts. Oh my! The atmosphere is quite nice with plenty of large tables for family get togethers, and the staff was very attentive. It was so good we came back the next night for pizza and we were not disappointed.

    Someone's uneducated attempt at Italian.

I didn't realize until yesterday that they had added different recipes on the menu. They have added Mexican, American and some Arabic food items on there. I still love their cal-zones and stromboli's. Their pizza is great also. But I can not take my mind off that huge slice of chocolate suicide off my mind. The desserts are wonderful.

We go to Gondolier several times a month. We love the Greek salad with their house dressing (a cross between Italian and Greek dressings, I think - really good), the gyro plate or salad, the lasagna, all the pizzas, and the desserts. We have to get dessert to go because there is NEVER room. You cannot eat at a fast food burger place for less for lunch. You can get an individual cheese pizza for about $3.50 (59 cents per additional item) or salad and individual pizza for about $5. I have never gotten anything less than delicious! As soon as you sit down, you get breadsticks and marinara sauce (to which I add some parmesan cheese). I do not understand why this place is not packed to the ceiling all the time! By the way, we have NEVER had bad service there.

The food is not bad, but the waitress coughed into your hand and touched my plates. I watched her did the same thing with other tables. Just sick.

Great family friendly place. Amazingly inexpensive (family of 4 for less than $40) and we always leave with leftovers so everyone has a meal the next day. Broad menu covering Italian/Greek/American. One of few places in the area that has gyros (and you can get it in a salad, too). Real olive oil and vinegar for your salad if you're like me and don't like salad dressing. Pizza is a must try here! Typically good wait staff, only occasionally have we had bad service (and notice that person isn't there when we show up for our next visit). The owners seem to always be there keeping an eye/hand on things (even to busing tables if it's really busy). They have beautiful desserts, but we never get dessert (to much food before that point). A bit pricey on the desserts, but if you're into huge wonderful assortments of cakes, they are for you (cakes are not made inhouse).

They used to be so good, but they have changed. We went to Gondolier a few weeks ago after not having been there in about 6 months. I was really looking forward to it because it had always been very good. First thing we noticed is that they weren't nearly as busy as usual at 6:30 on a Friday night. Well after receiving our food we understood why. The food has really gone downhill they must have a different head cook or something. The silverware was dirty had to ask for clean. The bread basket wasn't clean. Then the food. I order the Gyro plate it sucked. The meat was dried out and cold, the salad portion was soggy and warm. The pita bread was dried out stale. The marinara sauce was not even room temperature. My husbands spaghetti was cold as if it were inadequately reheated from the fridge! It wasn't good and when we leave a restaurant hoping we don't get sick, we don't go back. Hope they get the message - when your food quality drops , your business drops. I wrote a letter to them through the "contact us" form on their website but after receiving no reply wrote this review. Note: the pizza was ok.

Second best pizza i have ever had and i am a picky judge! I have only had better in Chicago where i grew up. I have also had their gyro which is pretty impressive. Try it, i think you'll like it!

Order more than I attend! Pizza is great but the best thing about this place is the dessert!! Cakes are off the charts!!

For the price I paid, I expected more than microwave quality food. One Italian beer and no vino. Very disappointing.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
