Last night was our first and last experience. The tossed salad and bread was good but then it went downhill fast. One of the dishes we ordered was the seafood platter - fish, shrimp, crabcake. The crabcake was passable, but I immediately spit out the fish! It was rancid! I put it on my bread plate to give to the waitress when she (finally) came back - she took one sniff and stated that it had "gone bad". No kidding. Fortunately, she brought another crabcake. The broccoli cheese au gratin... It was a bowl of huge broccoli stalks with some kind of white, gelatinous sauce and a scattering of shredded cheese on top. No au gratin. I couldn't figure out what the white sauce was (hollandaise? bernaise?) because when I tried to taste it with my fingertip, it simply made a dent - didn't even stick to my finger. We didn't attempt to eat it. When the waitress asked why we didn't eat it and I told her - she simply said OK and took it away. No substitution for something edible offered. The sirloin was overcooked and on par with a cheapo, family steakhouse. Certainly not what you'd expect for a $50 dinner.

We came in at 8:30. Our server was a professional. We both ordered filets and twice baked potatoes...the meal was excellent. I have to say, for the price we paid (two dinners for $35 including the premium sides) we had two of the most tender and subtly seasoned filet mignons we've ever had. There was a man playing piano which added to the steakhouse ambiance. We knew we weren't going into Kane Prime. Woody's is an old building between Rivergate and Hendersonville and there's definitely less pretense than an $80/head steakhouse, but that's the whole point. All in all it was a great meal but it was also so affordable that a working stiff like me can take my wife there whenever we want. We will be back.

Okay, the decor does have a definite Regal Beagle vibe. The piano player was really good, played a variety of songs, and even took requests! He should probably not have let the waitress sing (she was sweet, but not so vocally talented; bless her heart). Now for the important thing - the food. Onion rings as an appetizer with newly introduce remoulade sauce. The rings were large, cooked to perfection and the sauce was amazing! I had the NY Strip and twice baked potatoes. BF had the pork chops, 2 huge pork chops perfectly cooked, and asparagus as well as mashed potatoes. The steak had the best flavor of any steak I've had at any price. The twice-baked potatoes were amazing. Even the dressing on the salads was awesome. All together our bill was just north of $50. Our server was friendly and attentive without being personal, which was perfect. Truly a great meal. If you're looking for another trendy, hipster restaurant with deconstructed mini portions and molecular cocktails, this is not the restaurant for you. If you're looking for a delicious, well-executed, old-school steakhouse meal, this is it.

Yeah, I liked it. It's not a fancy place, but the steaks are huge and delicious. I got mine with the twice-baked potato, and my wife got hers with mushrooms. Both sides were large enough to split between us.

Best part of the meal were the mints at the end (nice taste, individually wrapped, and in a bowl on the way out). This place SCREAMS for Gordon Ramsay to bring Kitchen Nightmares there and try to turn it around but I fear it would be in vain. This restaurant was probably viable for the first 30-40 years of its operation, but it's been flying under the radar since Reagan was in office, at least. I want to support the little guy - the Mom & Pop, the un-chain. But I can't invest and defend and care when it's not evident that Mom & Pop still do, as well. Chef Ramsay has quite enough words in his mouth so I won't venture to put any more in there, but here are a few suggestions I believe he would make: - Open the curtains and get some natural light in there. Are you feeding people or developing 35 mm film? - Paint. The burgundy and hunter green were pretty and novel. In 1985. - Are those "homemade salad dressings" truly homemade? - Have a heartfelt discussion with the waitstaff. Ask them if they really want to be there. Are you paying them enough? Do you encourage them? They seem beaten down. Attentive enough, but beaten down. And just sad. - Speaking of sad, the man playing piano was nice. He played well. However, his presence created a couple of problems during the evening. One, the room was small enough (and quiet, due to lack of customers) that I didn't feel like I could speak throughout the meal as it would have certainly interrupted him and felt rude. Two, the songs he played and the style in which he played them felt more like background music while a eulogy was being delivered than light, dinner accompaniment. A couple of them bordered on depressing. - The steaks. I ordered a filet and it was butterflied to within an inch of its life. More like a quarter inch. I've never seen a filet so flat before. Decent taste, cooked well, but why was it so thin? Bottom line: Wait until Gordon Ramsay comes to town or go, but pretend you're in a Scooby Doo and you're dining with the gang in a creepy, abandoned tavern from yesteryear.

We just left after 2 hours of a very nice evening. Bottom line- The good--WE WILL COME BACK. Why? Excellently done steak, very, very good fish. Fried appetizers were amazing. Portions were HUGE. The ok/ not quite as good--the smashed potatoes tasted twice-baked and the in-house-made ranch was a bit salty...and the ranch was on the dilly and garlic-heavy side...other sides and dressings were amazing. Most of the in-house made dressings were really, really quite good. FOOD I posted some pictures. We started with mushrooms and onion rings and shared with all 8 people and there were about 10-12 of each item. The mushrooms were 3-4" in diameter, so they were very large, and took 5-6 bites each. The blue cheese dressing they came with was a little lacking in cheese, but good. The onion rings were 2" thick slices and not the 1/4" crap like Burger King and such where you can shove a whole one in your mouth. They were hand battered and tasty with sweet onions. They were 4-5 bites each. The kids got shrimp, chicken tenders and the grilled chicken. All which kids loved (and brought half home.) the home made, thick cut fries are the way they are supposed to be. The adults got the chicken, steaks, turf trio (described earlier) and surf trio (shrimp, crab cakes and fish). All were perfectly cooked. THIS IS THE BEST SIRLOIN I have had in 20 years. Very very good. We were a few dollars under the coupon value, so we packed up half the meals and had desert. We had the chocolate cherry cheesecake, the vanilla bean cheesecake and several brownie ala mode. Cheesecakes were perfect, and the choc-cherry had a very thick, but tasty, snicker doodle-type crust. I didn't get to taste the brownies, because they were so good, the kids devoured them in 30 seconds. I am not kidding. They all looked classy and elegant. I had coffee for my dessert, and it was a bit so-so, but still fresh. Speed The meals came quite fast, which was nice, but some in out party came early and pre-ordered the appetizers. Service Very very nice. My only complaint is that the restaurant was a little noise, so our server had to speak very loudly at times. Overall Other than the noise, it was quite excellent. Thanks Children's portions were scrumptiously large. COST breakdown The cost was more than two dollar signs for us...about $25 each including drinks (and we had soda, tea and waters.) this came to about $30 each after the mandatory tip for our party size. The highest/priced steak was about $16, and several of us had combo platters (turf-trio of the chicken breast, steak and pork chop was quite excellent.) We used a restaurant.com coupon for half off (before tip.) so the $230 bill (for 8) wasn't completely shocking when the $75 coupon was removed. The $75 coupon was about $30 on restaurants.com , so we saved about 20% on the night out. Final price was about $180 for 8--or about $24 each.

We ate here last Saturday night and had a great experience. My husband really wanted steak but not from a chain or upscale restaurant. We wanted calm and casual and Woody's delivered. I ordered a black and bleu salad and it was very good. He enjoyed his steak and a huge twice baked potato. We splurged on a very large piece of chocolate mousse pie. And in case you're wondering, they bring out rolls and butter! I loved the atmosphere. Woody's reminds me of steakhouses I ate at as a kid. There's a separate lounge entrance for the bar. Someone is playing Tony Bennett-esque songs on a piano. And of course the atmosphere is dim with deep red walls. It was awesome.

Went for dinner last night and it will be the last time. 1. Service was really slow 2. Bathroom smelled really badly of urine 3. Out of Prime Rib(their menu is small and to be out of an item like this is unacceptable) 4. I had the Rib Eye and although it was cooked properly the cut was more of a chuck eye steak (the very end cut on a rib roast) for $18 give me what I paid for not a cheap cut if meat that is close to what I ordered Overall for a party of 4 I would rather spend my $120.00 some place else. This place has a lot of potential but they has some serious flaws.

The exterior was a little confusing, as there were so many entrances. My family and I were pointed to the front, since we entered through the lounge. Ooops. There was a piano singer playing some old school (60's & 70's) music, which was fine- if you enjoy that. We ordered some appetizers- onion rings, chicken bites wrapped in bacon, sausage and some crab cakes, Horrible! The crab cakes tasted as if they were made w/imitation crab and were shaped in weird balls that were unappealing. The sauce was made of ketchup, garlic & mayo...clearly. Onion rings were huge w/no flavor and the chicken concoction tasted so so. The Tbone steak (med. rare) was flavorless and chewy. Smelled old. The ribeye was the same and my prime rib was so chewy, i couldn't finish it. The waitress was nice, the tables and area were clean and the atmosphere seems to be good for older folks. I will never go back. Waste of over $100 for a tasty baked potato that I could have gotten at Wendy's.

Went with a large group. I had the chicken and immediately became sick. The place smells horrible, the service is crass and slow (think Flo from Mel's Diner without being funny). The building feels as though it will collapse at any second. I'd actually give it 0 stars.

We bought a Groupon for Woodys because we had always wondered about it and thought that this was the perfect opportunity to try it out. We were very pleased and have been back twice since. My husband and I went on a Saturday night and had great service. The place was fairly busy and seems like every table had the same coupon. But our waitress was very outgoing and friendly. Since we had not ever been, we let her suggest some items on the menu. We ended up getting the fried mushrooms as an appetizer, they were the largest mushrooms that I have ever seen! We loved them. For our meal, I got a salad with the honey mustard (some of the best I've had), aspargus and a baked potatoe. I must say that I have craved thier aspargus since then, it is the best flavored Ive had in a restaurant. My husband got prime rib and it was "good" it wasnt quite what he expected since it was suppose to be "king cut" and it was more "queen cut". We were also talked into a homemade cheesecake with white chocolate topping. (she really had to twist my arm ;)) It was a lot more casual than we thought it would be, but that was fine with us. All in all we enjoyed ourselves and the price was great for what we got. I highly recommend the place and if you go, ask for Melanie. She was so good our first time that we have asked for her the other two times. I saw the reviews on here and totally disagree! We loved it!

I came with low expectations due to the other reviews. The interior was extremely dirty and the napkins were so soaked with butter that ours caught on fire by being close to the candle on the table. The forks were not clean and the bus boy was more attentive than the waitress. i will not be returning here ever.

Terrible service. Place is overrated. Half the things on the menu they don't even have. Food was nothing great. House Italian dressing on the salad was the only thing good. I know its been in town for over 70 years. I felt like I was eating in an old dive bar. Don't waste your time or money on this place. I like to support local businesses, but this place needs to get it together. Tourist beware!

ITS OFFICIAL WOODYS HAS HATERS OR CRACK SMOKERS WHO ARE WRITTING NEGATIVE REVIEWS. Seriously, the ribeye is awesome and how many sirlions do you know of that are as tender as a reibeye. The onion rings are as bigger and better than almost anywhere. The skillet potatoes with onions and peppers are definately above average. The jalapeno mac n cheese wasnt that great but hey no ones perfect, The salad is stardard fare but definately not worse than average. All for slightly less prices than most chain restaurants. I challenge anyone to tell me where they have had a much better ribeye. p.s. They have remolded the restaurant and its warmer and nicer. Especially the bathrooms.

Stick a fork in this place. First and last time here. Ordered the filet. It looked so lonely on the plate. It was supposed to be and 8 oz. may have been 5. My girlfriend ordered the filet tips cooked medium well and they were burnt. The service was awful due a waitress that forgot my beer and took forever to come back to take our order. People seat after us for their food before we did. Mushrooms were great but that was about all. We can cross this place off the list. One note waiter named Gary seemed to be a great waiter. Unfortunately he wasn't our waiter.

I'm not sure why this place has bad reviews. We went tonight and it was great! The decor needs some updating but the food was very good. Service was excellent and we loved the piano player. I got the strip steak and skillet potatoes. The steak was tender and perfectly seasoned and the potatoes had crispy skin with soft centers. My husband the ribeye and smashes potatoes and had no complaints. The bar patrons were loud but not obnoxious. We will definitely return!

The outside looks like some cheap motel with Woody's attached as a restaurant and bar. Went on a Tuesday night - pretty slow so service was pretty good. They had 1 waitress for the entire dining room so I could see service getting bad during peak times. Had batter onion rings as appetizer. Too much batter so it was only average. Only ate maybe half the batter and just pulled the onion out. Had the prime rib. Waitress was NOT knowledgeable here regarding if medium meant fairly red or gray. It was the latter so I didn't have it prepared the way I wanted. It was alright though. Sides - asparagus and baked potato. asparagus had some good seasoning and some of the best I've had at a restaurant. Double chocolate cake for dessert. Supposedly served room temp but it wasn't. I wouldn't recommend it.

Terrible. I was so pumped up because I had heard that this place was great. My wife and I went there for steak one time. We both ended up sending our steaks back. The tables were dirty and the service was a little slow. I read every review before I went here and people just raved about the place and I don't understand why. It was one of the worst places I've been.

Here's the way to enjoy Woody's: enjoy Woody's for what it is, not what it isn't. Here's what it isn't: it isn't a chain restaurant a la Outback or Chili's, it isn't a fancy steakhouse like Fleming's or Ruth's Chris, and it isn't a posh bistro restaurant like those you will find flanking 21st Avenue and West End. Here's what it is: a flashback to a bygone era when steakhouse meant huge portions, a good steak, and good solid side items, salads, and appetizers. It has good quality, a neighborhood feel, and a cozy atmosphere. I was excited when I walked into Woody's and saw the old-fashioned oak furniture, the heavy stained-glass '70s era bar, and the color decor of woodsy, out of vogue hunter greens and deep burgundies. I knew I was in for the kind of meal not readily served anymore. I was also there with my father, who, if you take him to any classy restaurant, routinely complains that there's more decorations on his plate than food, and I knew Woody's would make him happy. I'm a little burnt out on fancy, yuppy, trendy. After a while, it gets old. Sometimes you just want a good ole' steak dinner. The menu is simple and probably hasn't changed in as many years as the decor hasn't changed. It comprises a list of staples, of which we sampled quite a few. The onion rings are fantastic. I'm of the opinion that onion rings can't have too much breading - it just ain't possible. After all, I'm not eating them as part of a conscientious, healthy diet, now am I? The crabs-stuffed mushrooms were equally decadent. The salad was a traditional steakhouse salad. You won't see any goat cheese or walnuts or lavender vineagrette here. How refreshing! I ate the seafood sampler, which came with crab cakes, grilled shrimp, AND blackened grouper, accompanied by the most enormous twice-baked potato I've ever witnessed (I took that home and ate it for lunch the next day). The other people at the table had a sampling of the steaks and the prime rib. I thought the rib eye was delicious, perfectly cooked, and tender, and although I'm not usually a fan of prime rib (too much blobby fat), these looked more like a good cut of meat than what I'm accustomed to seeing at chain restaurants. At Woody's, you won't get that fancy new-fangled 1990's spawned chain steakhouse fare; however, you will get a lot of food and you will get classic, tasty, traditional steakhouse food. I can't wait to go back for happy hour!

Woody's is, by far, my favorite restaurant. I don't get to go as often as I'd like since they are across town from me, but I go when I can. It is also my father's favorite. It is very clean and has awesome food. We always get the sirloin for two, it's a great price and usually take half of it home because they give you so much. The salads are great, croutons awesome. I wish more restaurants were like them. The last time we went, they had a big party going on and warned us it could be an hour before they could get to us, we didn't care, we waited that hour and it was worth it. We will be back again and again!
