So glad we found this crew again once they left O'Sake on Elliston Place. Best fresh fish, best rolls, great staff and crew. They are our neighbors and we can't wait to go back!

Was in the Rivergate area, and was wanting sushi for dinner. I was very impressed with how fast our sushi was prepared. It was the best sushi I have ever had, and you couldn't beat the price. I ordered two fried rolls (total of 16 pieces), it came with a salad and soup for $13.99. That is almost unheard of. Will definitely come by to Arigato again.

I rarely write reviews but I genuinely feel that this place is a hidden gem. Everything I've ever tried has been delicious and is moderately priced. The atmosphere is very welcoming and I will continue to go here regularly. Also, their lunch specials are hard to beat!

We are new to this side of town and have started searching for a couple of sushi restaurants that we can enjoy eating at. My daughter and I went here due to the high ratings it received, however we left extremely disappointed. The food was below average compared to other sushi places we have experienced. It had very little flavor and was overwhelmingly drenched in the sauces which took away any flavor left of the sushi. Not only that but we only ordered 3 rolls to share and each had miso soup and the bill was over $50, that was very dissapointing, needless to say we will not return.

Good solid choice for Japanese. Giving it 3 stars for now, because there are other restaurants close by that I prefer. We ordered the gyoza as an appetizer, but it came out just after our entrees, which is always annoying. But the gyoza tasted good. I liked their selection of non-sushi foods. I lived in Japan for a semester, so I'm always on the look-out for the staples of Japanese cuisine to satisfy my impossible cravings. I ordered yakisoba, and it was just okay. I enjoyed it more out of nostalgia than anything. The portion was not large enough for the price in my opinion. Although I ordered the vegetarian option, there were hardly any vegetables in it. I was really surprised that there was no pork option as well, since pork goes hand-in-hand with yakisoba. My boyfriend got 3 sushi rolls, and they were very tasty. However, at Sapporo just down the street, they have a fantastic 3-roll sushi combo that is much cheaper and just as good. Sapporo apparently closes midday, which I think is silly for a restaurant. We just so happened to be in-between those hours, so that's why we checked out Sayonara. I would definitely like to give this place another try and see how some of their other entrees measure up.

I am really surprised at how many good Japanese restaurants are in this area! And this is one of them. I've been here a few times and today we came for lunch. They have sushi lunch special for 2 rolls, salad, and soup for only$7.99! It's such a deal! We had the bento box with beef teriyaki and the beef was soooo good. It was cooked just right, medium or medium well! The bento box was only $9.99! Honestly you can't go wrong with anything you order. It's a family owned restaurant so everybody is nice!

One of my best friends and I went out for a girls night and decided we wanted some good sushi. We decided to check out somewhere new and went online to give us an idea. We had read some really good reviews for this place and thought we should give it a shot. When we arrived - the outside wasn't very well lit, and the restaurant wasn't very busy for a Saturday night, so I was a little worried at first. However my friend and I decided to stay and try it out. So glad we did! We got the Edamame as and app and ordered some different sushi rolls to share. We both decided it was the best sushi we had had in the area. (Gallatin, Hendersonville, Nashville) The staff was super friendly, sushi was really fresh. Prices were very affordable. Check it out, pretty sure you won't be disappointed! I think I read a review that called this place a "Diamond in the rough" - I couldn't agree more!

Huge selection and quality fish for a good price! This chef knows his trade. Really, everything is great about this place! Even when (one time) I didn't get what I ordered, I was graced with a sushi roll at no cost...and it became one of my favorites I order all the time! The Nashville roll. Yum...and fitting!!! I gave it a 4 because the atmosphere needs updating, but the fact that they deliver really compensates for that--I've just never used that service, so I can't rate it accordingly.
(4)Son Y.
Food was just decent. The sushi chef was very impersonal and rude. He actually rolled his little eyes at me when I told him I got a wrong order. I am a foodie and love trying out different places and befriending chefs but I wouldn't go back to this place.

Took my fiance to his first Japanese restaurant, he is not the type that likes to explore different cuisines, so I was extremely happy that he wanted to try it. He had the teriyaki chicken/steak box, which was great for him. He didn't understand the miso soup (i believe he called it dirty water - terrible) I had sashimi, which is always my go-to when trying new places. I want to taste the quality, temperature and cut of the fish. i thought it was pretty good! their roll menu looked very full and detailed and would like to try some of them. Overall a good experience, I will definitely be back as it's fairly close to home and something off the chain restaurants that rule this area. cute decor too.
(4)Taylor B.
Jay is the best sushi chef in Nashville. Great selection of rolls with the best ingredients and he is always coming up with new ones. Do yourself a favor and check this place out.
(5)AJ K.
The first time we went the food was spectacular and the presentation was beautiful.... Second time we went the food was good but not as good and the presentation was ok... The third time we went the food was thrown on a plate with no regard to presentation and the sushi was stale and the rolls were falling apart and it was all just terrible, and that sucks because we spent 100$ on it.... I will not go back there... I guess they only try to show off the first time you go... I dunno maybe the chef had a bad night but they lost a customer... To many other good options to waste money.
(2)Jennifer D.
I'm not sure where this sushi came from but literally the biggest menu and best I've ever had. We asked them to surprise us and it was amazing. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. Unbelievable. I've eaten in 5 stars around the country and I've never tasted better.

I am from LA, and staying with my family in Tennessee for a few months and I was certain I would be forced to not have good Sushi for the entire time. I stumbled upon this place one day with a friend of mine and we figured since the reviews were great that we would give it a shot and OH. MY. GAWD. so glad we did! their spicy seafood soup was so good that I almost regretted getting the sushi (almost but not quite). Their sushi was so delectable, it was extremely fresh, which I was amazed by and tasted just as good as my favorite sushi place in LA. Not to mention, the staff was soooooo friendly and nice. The sushi chef answered all of our questions and was very polite. And the waitress didn't hesitate when I requested that my miso soup have more seaweed in it. (honestly she seemed shocked that I wanted more seaweed).
(5)Larry S.
I'm not a sushi person. But I pass this place all the time when walking my dog, so we decided it was time to give Arigato a try. I understand that they've recently renovated the place, but I never saw the "before". We were a little disappointed that they still didn't have their liquor license. I tried the seafood tempura, and it was alright. My wife had the steak teriyaki, and I liked it better than my own dinner. We'll probably go back, but there are a lot of other places I'll need to try first.
(3)Janette C.
I am a huge sushi person and I love trying new places out. My fiance and I did a search on Yelp to see what was close to home that we hadn't been to yet and we happened upon this restaurant. I am glad we did! It's a smaller place in a strip mall but don't let that deter you from going here to try it! They have sake and plum wine (and other drinks of course!). I had the plum wine and the glass was filled to the brim! My fiance had the sake, which was large and very tasty! They have an extensive menu and a lot of different options to try. We started with a squid salad and a seaweed salad, both of which were delicious and large portions. Large enough that we shared them :) We then choose three different rolls to share and again, they were delicious! They also gave us a green tea ice cream to finish our meal up with :) The prices for what we got were good, in comparison with other sushi places we have been with and the quantity that we got! We will definitely go back again. I just hope they get a little busier. When we were there, there was only two other tables filled at the same time.

My fiance and I love to come to Arigato Sayonara when we are in the area visiting friends. Their food is always delicious and the staff is wonderful. I love ordering my favorite rolls, along with a couple of appetizers...but my last visit (on New Year's Eve) I tried their tempura soba. it was very tasty! The only thing I didn't like about it was that the tempura was already getting soggy from sitting in the broth. I definitely hope to return in the future to try more of their food!
(5)Tish H.
Absolutely the best sushi in Nashville!!! Jay is friendly and a great host. Welcoming and clean! Very expansive menu and large portions. I will be back again and again.
(5)Glenn J.
Good, fresh sushi. My wife really liked the tempura, reasonable prices. Not the best decor but would definitely eat there again.
(4)Desi R.
Sushi here was just okay. Good lunch specials though.
(3)Beth P.
Went back to this place after about a three month absence, to find that the ownership had changed. Now it was all lit up like a nightclub, playing weird rave music. The menu didn't change, but the flavor definitely has. Don't know that I'll go back, as I was a bit heartbroken.
(3)Feng Q.
I found this restaurant from yelp iPhone app, when taking a long road trip. Without too much of thinking, I chose the bento box: shrimp roll and tough teriyaki. Best ever! And the Asian waitress looks like the angles that only exist in dream. I wish I could bump into her some day somewhere.
(5)Aaron S.
Great food and friendly people. I travel 30 minutes each way and it's worth it every time. I've seen some comments about the prices, but I think they need to go to more sushi bars for comparison. $12 for a three role combo is pretty good. Best sushi in Nashville.

New owner fail. This used to be my favorite sushi place in the Davidson County area bar none, but this place has apparently sold to new owners as of May, and these new owners have chosen to... well, basically ruin everything. What once was a classy, cozy environment has been converted into the typical neo-Japanese eatery with lesser sushi chefs, horrible service, and a somewhat more cramped environment with neon-purple lighting around the walls. I should note that the sushi chef is apparently a hothead with a short fuse (or I caught him on a really, really bad day). When our server took a 30-minute hiatus after bringing our waters, we asked the sushi chef where she went. He acted offended that we would ask, then questioned why we needed her, to which I answered that we were ready to order, and he responded with a very sarcastic and annoyed "YES, THANK YOU." Bizarre and seriously off-putting. As for the sushi itself, they kept most of the staples of the prior restaurant and owners but do it in a much shabbier fashion, thrown together with missing ingredients (the roll I ordered was listed as being topped with roe, but no roe was to be found when it was served). Not to mention, it takes them 3 times as long to prepare them as it did the prior chefs. With a virtually empty house, we waited at least a full hour from the time we sat down until we were served our food. On top of that, the chef and server were not only unapologetic and completely apathetic, but they came off as extremely impolite and rude at every turn. Horrible service, sub par sushi, and careless owners. If only I knew where the original owners went, so I could follow them there, I would most certainly do so. Arigato Sayonara is no more. It is a sad day for sushi in Nashville.
(2)Jenn R.
Good sushi. Good service.Recommended for Nashville.Better rolls than all of the places I've tried here in Nashville. The salmon is good. It's difficult to get any nigiri that I would say is excellent here because we are landlocked and nobody seems to be that picky. I'm glad I have somewhere to go for sushi when I need my fix.
(4)Chris E.
This is my hands down, number 1 sushi spot. Started eating here around 8 years ago and was a regular. Opened, owned and run by a very friendly korean guy named Jay and his wife. He left to pursue other endeavors around 3-4 years ago. It was at this time that there was some tapering off of quality... And friendliness. I gradually lost interest as time passed, then a couple months ago I stopped in for lunch to find Jay returned and some pleasant interior changes. The fried rice has always been one of my faves (along with scallop and shrimp tempura) and Jays sushi is consistently the best I've found. They have a challenging location which is kinda tucked away on the far side of pier one in river gate but the prices, atmosphere and food are very tough to beat. Get. You. Some!

I will admit to not being exactly a Sushi veteran eater, but in my travels I have stopped at a few Sushi places of varying quality. The first was a rotating sushi bar on the big island of Hawaii, that was good. The worst was at a Chinese restaurant in Murfreesboro, that was not so good. The absolute best was in Johnson City, Tennessee at a place called Osaka II. This place: Arigato Sayonara, is if not just as good, is on the same level as Osaka II in Johnson City. The fish is fresh and very flavorful. I had one of the Sushi Combos and an order of their Cherry Blossom rolls, which were also very good. Besides that they also have A la Carte menus like most other sushi places I've been to. It's like most small Japanese places, it's a very small place, but very quaint and friendly. The noise level isn't bad at all either. I asked the man that was preparing the sushi where they got their fish from and how often. They get their tuna from Hawaii, and the rest of the fish comes from Japanese fish markets in either Atlanta or Chicago and they order their fish three times a week, so they should have good tasting fresh fish at all times according to that! If you are in town visiting Nashville for the Opry or something, take the time to head up north of town and check this place out if you are a sushi fan or interested to try it. It will be well worth your time!

Ok the sushi here is a tad better than average because most is the same, depending on their delivery date. The difference her was the owner really cared if i enjoyed my meal, He went above and beyond and we had a big sushi discussion about best cuts of sushi etc. I have been eating sushi for about 10 years and I can look at a piece of nigiri and tell you the type of fish. Almost anyplace can make a good roll but nigiri depends on the quality of the fish. So you get a tad better quality with 5 star service here just talk to them. Plus they have specials now and didnt on my last visit.
(4)J C.
Great folks who take care of their customers. The fish is always fresh and they don't mind a substitution here and there.
(4)Josh C.
This is one amazing sushi restaurant! Sushi always comes in a timely manner. The staff is very friendly. Even after just going in a few times, they remember me and even remember where I told them I work. If you want good food, good service, and a good atmosphere, go to Arigato Sayonara.
(5)Leia A.
This is a great sushi spot. Nice atmosphere. A very thorough menu and a lot to choose from! And prices were good for a sushi spot. Their seaweed salad is great-- nice light flavors with a nice crunch. We also had the Arigato special- $14.99 for 2 special rolls of your choosing, salad and miso soup. The salad is served with a really tasty ginger dressing. Miso soup is always good. We had the Yumyum roll and the Nashville roll. I don't quite remember what was in them, but I remember the Nashville roll being really awesome. The menus have descriptions of all the rolls-- and there are a lot, so you may have a hard time choosing! Overall, a great place to go to for sushi!

I lived in Seattle for many years and when I relocated to northern Nashville, the one thing I truly missed was fresh, quality, sushi. It went (and continues to go) above and beyond my expectations. The service is wonderful. Our waitress is always attentive and our food is always fantastic. The Crunchy Munchy roll is one of my favs, as is the Green Dragon. My bf LOVES the Volcano roll and Rob's roll. To be honest though, we haven't had a single thing that isn't fabulous. Another point I should probably make: The price for what you're getting (Ie fresh seafood, attentive service, and a quiet ambiance) is great. It is also less expensive than some of their competitors (and they also have better tasting rolls). Definitely a great place for date night!
(5)W B.
Best sushi in town. Huge selection of rolls and very fresh, generous sized nigiri. A bit pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for, and great service and friendly folks. If they had a menu online I would order take out all the time.
(5)Robin S.
Been meaning to check this place out for awhile. The restaurant is simple and to-the-point, and the point is making great sushi. If you're in Madison make sure you stop by Arigato Sayonara. And if you're not, it's worth the drive.
(5)Kristy C.
I moved here from FLorida several years ago with my husband. We are avid sushi eaters. We have tried allot of places in and around Nashville. They have all been ok. This place is far better than ok. It is a little pricier than some; but the portions and quality make up for that. Beautiful decor too!
(5)Thomas L.
Great Sushi! Especially for a place tucked away in a strip mall. My wife and I came here for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. We got some water and some veggie gyoza to start things off. We asked the waitress for her sushi recommendations and we used that as guide to order two rolls, Rob's roll and the Hot Mama roll. After a decent while, the waitress came back to tell us that they were out of veggie gyoza so we ordered some shrimp shumai. Luckily it took just a short time for the shumai to come out. Our sushi came out shortly thereafter as well. My wife were so pleased with our choices in sushi and the combination of flavors in each roll was just great. The shumai were very tasty as well. The service was all around pretty good. A minor hiccup in that they were out of veggie gyoza but that situation was quickly rectified. We left with our stomach full of great sushi. We will have to remember this place the next time we are in the mood for sushi instead of heading into the city. But when were in the area, this place definitely meets our asian(japanese) need.
(4)Karol C.
LOVE it!!! Until coming across Arigato Sayonara I was a California Roll (safe) kinda gal. The menu is so extensive and colorful, it impelled me to move out of my comfort zone and get to know sushi a little better. They offer several varieties of rolls, several entrees, appetizers and soup. I also noticed that they serve wine and sake. You'll want to try it all, I do anyway. :-) Very inexpensive for a Japanese sushi bar. Oh, and if you're afraid to try raw seafood, there are many cooked offerings and rolls.
(4)Rachel M.
Since we live so close to this place, it didn't make any sense not to try it, especially with all the stellar reviews. It's located in this little strip mall that doesn't really have anything special in it, and it's very easily missed. My husband and I must have driven past this place so many times and never even seen it. We had to get on Google maps to find it. Sad. So. It's a little restaurent in a little strip mall. I used to be very wary of these because my small town experience instilled the fear of strip mall restaurants in me. I've only started to branch out since we've lived in Nashville where you might miss out on something totally awesome if you never go to a strip mall restaurant. Anyway. We walked in and were immediately greeted like we were their favorite customers even though we'd never been there before. A+ for that. We got our menus and proceeded to stare at them for over 15 minutes. Why? There are too many choices! I literally wanted to try the whole sushi menu! I ended up ordering two rolls for myself, and my husband got the meal where you get a little salad, miso soup, and three sushi rolls so we could at least try five of them. Now, since I'm not on top of my reviews all time, I'm not quite sure what we got anymore. I know my husband got the Fireball and one that kind of looked nasty but tasted amazing (I"ve found that you can't judge sushi by its looks). Both of mine had eel. Yeah, this review is not going to be very helpful if you are looking for suggestions. Really, I don't think you could go wrong with any roll on the menu. The service...was EXCELLENT! Everyone was SO friendly. The sushi chef talked to us the whole time he was making our rolls. So where's my 5th star, you ask? Well, I still like Sushi-o-Sushi down on Nolensville better. If you could give a 4.75, that's what my 4 stars would actually be.
(4)Benjamin S.
I am beginning to notice a pattern here as I am consistently finding, that on average, there are more amazing, delicious and well priced sushi bars on the outskirts of Nashville, rather than closer to the downtown area. That being said, you can argue authenticity if you want, but for the price, Arigato is amazingly good and has some excellent combos. Once again my fiancee and I had the gyoza, fried calamari and a 3 roll combo for me, while she got the 2 roll combo. I think I got different rolls this time but I am not sure. That being said, the friends who went with us also enjoyed their food as well (they live in the area and Arigatos is one of their favorite places to go). My friend Bevin ordered the chirashi don which looked so good that I have decided to get it on my next visit.
(5)Kaley J.
This place rocks! Read the reviews, then went for dinner. Lots of specialty rolls to choose from, fresh fish, great service and friendly staff. Can't wait to go back and try some more rolls. I recommend the Red-Eye, great spicy tuna on top of balls of rice that have been deep fried with a smoky sauce (don't know what it is, but it's great!). I also recommend the spicy tuna poke for an appetizer. It was suggested by Cheng (one of the sushi chefs)...great! ..and very spicy! I was also given a piece of seared albacore to try...nice, big ole bite of deliciousness--as well as a cup of green tea to finish my meal! Check out Arigato!
(5)Krystal D.
My husband and I just relocated out here from the Seattle/Tacoma area and have been dying to find a nice sushi place! Considering the fact that I've lived most of my adult life in the very-cultured west coast, I was skeptical to find anything close to what I enjoyed in WA and CA. Hubby decided to look up sushi places on good ol' Yelp and we thought the reviews for Arigato Sayonara were promising-- thankfully after our visit we agree!! :D We split 5 different rolls and a bowl of chicken fried rice, which was to die for!!! With tip, we paid about $40, which is decently priced... we were incredibly happy with service and food, so overall, I thought it was worth a few minutes of my time to write a review!
(5)Mark P.
Tuna was not sushi grade, by a long shot. Salmon was "slippery". Imitation crab for sushi was dry and not fresh. Menu's and take out carton strewn on empty tables. Not a glimmer of what it used to be. Needless re-decoration and the best thing to eat is the Bento box. Sushi is a toss up depending, it seems, on the date it was purchased and later served. My last gasp at one of my ex favorite restaurants. To be avoided I am unhappy to say. It was world class when run by the chef from China who returned home.
(1)Rosalind V.
I saw four stars and thought this place would be exceptional. I can only rate it 3 stars. I had the Cody Roll and Fried Rice. It was good. But I can't say it is some of the best sushi I have had. There were only a few people in there during the lunch hour.
(3)T M.
My partner and I love sushi, and have eaten it all over Nashville. Imagine our surprise when our favorite sushi joint turned out to be in our own backyard in Madison. I have rarely had a roll here that wasn't very good, and they are often downright amazing. Lee and his wife, the owners, are super, super nice and treat us like royalty every time we come in. There should be a line out the door at this place--it's really that good. And the sushi here is much less expensive than at most other sushi restaurants. It's definitely worth the trip to Madison.
(5)Kristen M.
Love this place!!! The food is great . . the people are friendly .. it's not overcrowded and overwhelming .. great portions.. A++++++++++++ in my book!
(5)Steve C.
Great food. Great prices. Just go. You'll enjoy!
(5)A H.
Great Sushi, service, and prices. I will definately go back for more! Wonderful place to eat fresh Sushi in the Nashville area.
(5)DG B.
Best Sushi in Nashville! Great prices to boot!
(5)Jimmy C.
I go here often due to working close by. Other than your sushi options I highly recommend the Spicy seafood soup!
(5)Cooper L.
We were in TN visiting some family and were in the mood for sushi and decided on Arigato's. It was an excellent decision. Everyone was very pleased with their order and the service was outstanding. We will definately be coming back next time we visit. Great job!
(5)Courtney G.
We tried this for the first time tonight. We used to live in Nashville and the prices for what you get are a lot better by comparison to other Japanese restaurants there. We ordered a steak bento box and a few fried sushi rolls. They were great and the steak was soo tender that I kept stealing a bite for myself lol.
(4)Alex P.
Came here after getting a body wrap at England's hair salon. Got chicken terriyaki with miso soup, salad with ginger dressing, and shrimp shumai. The ginger dressing was perfect and the miso soup was pretty good. I really enjoyed the shumai and the chicken terriyaki was OK but the chicken was a bit dry and the vegetables that came with it was too salty and peppery. Otherwise, it was great! The food was delicious! The staff were very friendly and attentive! And the decorations inside the restaurant were very nicely placed. I was so surprised that it was rather empty on a Friday night, especially since this place is so good!

Traveling with peers. Picked based on Yelp reviews ... Was not disappointed. Great selection, great taste, good service.
