If I had to describe this location of Calhoun's, the word I'd use is 'meh'. Calhoun's prides itself on its barbecue, and particularly its ribs. The ribs I've had there on multiple occasions have been tough and relatively bland tasting. The service was pretty attentive when I was there. I would strongly recommend skipping the buffet they serve during lunch. It's pretty horrible.

Went the Sunday before Memorial Day 2013 to sit on the deck and listen to music (Tiki bar portion of the restaurant). My previous experiences were in the 4-star range for this location of Calhoun's, which is the only reason I'm giving a 3-star rating this time rather than the 1-star it deserved (my best attempt to give a fair average score). We sat ungreeted for about ten minutes before someone stopped to get our drink order. Five more minutes passed before we got those drinks and she went to look for whoever our server was supposed to be. Five or ten more minutes passed and she ended up coming back to take our order herself. Luckily, the food was out in a reasonable amount of time (we were STARVING by this point). Food was great, thankfully, even thought the deck has a limited menu. But we practically had to send the search team out to find our server to take our money so we could leave. While the two neighboring tables received (and complained about) the same poor service, the manager never bothered to apologize (even though he delivered our food). I felt bad for the poor server. She was obviously the only staff member "working" that night.

I used to work there and never got tired of the food. Great place for ribs and beer.

Food and service slipping in recent years. Ribs were cold and service was slow, probably the reason for the cold ribs. Was pretty empty when we arrived but got too busy for the staff and we were left to fend for ourselves.

We moved to the area 2 months ago and found that Calhouns is a close place that we can ride the boat over for dinner. So we have become regulars mainly because we like the atmosphere and the food is always good. The entertainment tonight was absolutely spectacular! Logan Murrell is such a talent and I could've listened to her ALL night. Not like other nights with a few other entertainers, we usually leave way before we are ready because the music isn't so great. We would LOVE to see Logan more nights, especially Thurs Friday or Saturdays. She would really keep the crowd there. She is one of the best performers I've ever seen. Please, more LOGAN!!!

This place was fairly busy with large groups, but still had a good atmosphere to it and was what I expected out of this type of establishment. The smoked brisket was really flavorful and not too dry. I liked it without the house bbq sauce since the sauce was a little too sweet for my liking. The spinach marie was super cheesy but so delicious, and the fresh biscuits were nice and flakey. Even though the beer selection was limited, they did have three micros on tap that were alright. Our server was extremely attentive and patient since we were one of the larger groups. She kept our glasses full and our needs satisfied. This was pretty good and I'd come back the next time I'm in town.

As usual my husband and I were searching for a new experience. It was a beautiful day and we decided on the local Calhouns. We got a perfect two top table right next to the water and began our night with two ice cold local brew beers. We then proceeded to purchase handfuls of fish food and throw it into the water. Now, if you have never seen catfish eat, you wouldn't believe the amount of food they can! These fish were huge. Worth every penny to see that many large fish battle it out over small bites of food. After that, we decided to go across to the tiki hut for some live music and were impressed with the outdoor space they have available! Right on the water and beautiful! We will go back just for the beer and to feed the fish!!!

The ribs were not all that good. I was not impressed. However, my son ordered the steak and it was excellent!! Cooked correctly, medium, I wished I had ordered that instead!! The rolls were ok. That's why im rating this a 4 star. Not busy at all when we went.. I would go back for the steak....to be continued.

Even though the menu is kind of limited from a basic BBQ joint, the staff and atmosphere was great. Love sitting outside looking at the boats and ducks that went by.

Great time of year to enjoy the Tiki Hut. Great view and you can bring your furbaby! Great music on the weekend nights. Try the barbeque potato skins

My server Mark was very friendly and helpful. Ribs were great as were the beans and corn puddin. Waterfront deck is great too. I say try it. Servers and staff all friendly. They have glutten free menu also. Clean place. Wide variety of choices. More than a bbq joint.

We were visiting from out of town and we wanted to check out the marina and get dinner. Food and drinks ended up being great. Atmosphere was awesome and inviting. Morgan was excellent and helpful. She made perfect recommendations and didn't mind us hanging after eating. Potato skins and steaks were delicious. I would love to come back during a summer weekend to get the full experience.

Just ate at the tiki hut. My wife ordered an appetizer and an entree (on mother's day) which arrived at the same time. The steak skewers she ordered were stone cold. I had to walk my plate to the waitress (she never came to check on us) to let them know about the cold food. The manager came to the table and apologized, saying, "they just came off the grill, I don't know how it was cold." Needless to say we will not be recommending Calhouns to anyone we like.

We went here during their buffet so we didn't get an opportunity to sample any ordered dishes. And we came near the close of the buffet,so take this review with a grain of salt. The food was pretty good. Pretty good in that the price was commiserate with the product. So I wasn't mad at them. The best time was spending it with our children and new grandbaby.

I've been going here for years...The prime rib on Fridays and Saturdays is to die for...I mean my family requests it every time they're in town. Fresh oysters, as well, on the weekend. Never had a bad experience with the food. However, I believe the Shrimp skewers are over priced and I wish they offered more variety in a Gluten-free menu. Management needs to train bartenders. Overall maintenance and cleanliness of the restaurant is acceptable; nothing really comes to mind in this department. Staff retention is high, generally people work there for years; not months... Overall an excellent place to bring the family. I bring my nephew here to feed the fish and ducks. He loves it!!!

We ate here a few times over the summer and sat outside along the river. The ducks and geese sat below us in the water waiting for crumbs. Great atmosphere and we've always had good service. The food is good, I especially like the fried green tomatoes and ribs. The biscuits are so good! We had to ask for more so everyone could enjoy one.

Nice restaurant and bar overlooking marina/lake. Nicole is an excellent waitress! Full bar with signature drinks. Quesadilla was very good. BBQ chicken was tasty. There is indoor and covered outdoor seating. There is a tiki bar with a different menu and love music on weekends. Great place to hang out with friends!

Was a huge fan of Calhouns. Over the years this location seems to be slipping. Last 2 trips (non-buffet) with guest the service was horrible and the ribs old and dry. I loved the buffet but recently they have rearranged the buffet room and added a carver. The guys they have been using are terrible. No idea what they are doing. So then the line backs up. The guy then gave my wife a CHUNK of pulled pork the size of a grapefruit. Food when prepared correctly is the best around. Unfortunately you never know when your going to get that at this location. The Turkey Creek Location has been flawless the 3 or 4 times Ive been there. My suggestion is do the buffet on Wednesday or Friday or pick another location. Oh and for best service sit in the bar area.

Good food, service, beverages. No Winter Warmer seasonal though. Pretty large bill. Nothing else like Calhoun's. Update 8/7/2013: keep going back for the excellent food; beer is average at this location (go to Bearden location for the full menu); bartenders are mediocre, they will let you know what they won't do (samplers, flights, etc.) and gab about their personal life continuously

One of the ways I judge service at a restaurant is how long it takes the staff to clear the table of dirty plates after I am done eating. This was a remarkable example, so I had to write. Service is horrible. Countless busboys and waitresses buzzed by, ignoring our veritable mountain of dirty dishes. (I counted 32.) We just sat there, staring at each other and the pile of dishes, for over 25 minutes. We are on a date, dressed up, thinking "well, this is awkward." Then they ask if we want dessert or coffee!? Really? Oh yeah, just put it right here on this greasy plate:)

The ribs were dry and stringy. The Mac and cheese was bland. The coleslaw was ok. Terrible for a place that says it is a rib joint. Rolls were the best

We have been here several times. Each time, service is fair. The food is fair. The atmosphere is good. We always see people we know. But it just doesn't seem "Great". The restrooms are always dirty. The food is never wonderful or served hot. Our drinks are never refilled early enough. Our food seems over priced for the quality and quantity. Just don't know why we keep going back!
