Ate here on my travels. Good to see a Mom and Pop business like this out there. Been a long time for me to hear someone say "red eye" gravy referring to the gravy made from ham. This cafeteria is much better than certain chains out there. If I ever go back to Knoxville would return. I actually cannot remember what I ordered but it was good home cooked food.

The food is good at best. Very cafeteria like. very busy, mostly older crowd. The décor is very dated, wood panel walls with old photos of UT. My party of 3 was not really impressed overall. I got one meat two veggies and a desert and drink and my bill was almost 12 dollars. Long line moves pretty fast.

If you want good old cafeteria food like the elementary school of the 60s, then this is your place. Upscale and a lot of elderly people, but always good and it is what it is.

This is a great place for folks set in there ways. First off be warned, they do not accept credit cards...cash only. The line to get food can be very long (15+ minutes) and it is cafeteria style so wait in line, grab a tray, and tell them what you want off the food line. On the plus side, the food is really good. Its mostly country, comfort food with all the fixings. The table service is limited and you can tend yourself if you prefer. The price is a tad high for what you put up with but not bad. This place is fine if you stop in with a coworker or by yourself.

Wright's is an old school establishment quickly becoming a distant memory in East Tennessee, so I suppose one man's "set in there (sic) ways" is another man's nostalgia and tradition. Considering people don't appreciate what they have until it's gone, hopefully all the nitpicking will be eclipsed by the hordes of people who still continue to fill the line (always thought it was a good sign to have lot of patrons at a restaurant every day of the week?) for authentic country cooking served by genuinely friendly people -- not a corporation. The food at Wright's is delicious and affordable, the atmosphere utterly comfortable, and there's not a single thing they need to do differently. If you're looking for a McMeal, go anywhere else. If you're looking for real delicious southern food that you can barely find anywhere else (real banana pudding made daily but get there early because it goes fast) get to Wright's and get there early. Except for Thursday evenings, they're lunchtime only.
