Great sushi and green tea. Service was great! Nice and quirky staff, very attentive. Nice lighting and they were playing a nice mix of jazz for our dinner. Decor seems a little... temporary? It's nice but it's not decorated like a PF Changs or anything like that.

I just ate at Tomo, my favorite is The California Roll. They put a touch of Mayonnaise in it. I often go for their lunch specials. They have fast, courteous, and attentive service. I live about 7 miles away and the price, service and taste of their sushi is worthy every mile. The atmosphere, especially in the evening is intimate and quite. The light Jazz in the background is always a sweet plus.

This place was pretty bad. Stopped by for takeout. The host was very friendly and the wait wasn't long (the reasoning behind a scant two stars) but the food itself was bordering on inedible. Perhaps if you're only used to grocery store sushi you might think this was good sushi. But I assure you, it is not. Miso soup - decent! But how hard is it to eff up miso soup? Salad - sad, wilted, yellow iceberg lettuce. Why even bother? Salmon skin roll - actually OK! The only roll we finished. Things really go downhill from here. Spicy tuna roll - not spicy at all. Im not talking about it not being hot enough. Im saying there was no element of spice in that roll. Break out the sriracha, people. Bland. Tangerine roll - looked pretty with orange slice garnish, but there was no flavor. None. You couldn't taste the tempura shrimp at all or any other ingredients in there (I wouldn't even be able to tell you what they were). The resounding flavor was orange slice garnish. That's it. Rainbow roll - stay away from the rainbow roll. This is supposed to be a California roll topped with fish and avocado. Again, very bland. Plus, the fish and avocado looked OLD. The salmon was an unappetizing orangish-brown color. All of the avocado used in the entire meal was blackening. Gross. We didn't finish this one and, honestly, felt apprehensive even eating a few pieces. Old. Bland. Sad.

I really like Tomo, as I've grown into sushi and gotten past my ooh and ahhs over Nama, this may be one of my favorite sushi places in Knox. The restaurant is very small and inviting. It looks like your favorite little neighborhood nook. Some of the sushi rolls here can be a bit pricey, but nothing close to the now ridiculously inflated prices at Nama. I ordered two rolls, and one was called something like " California Dream Salad". The roll was wrapped in coiled cucumber instead of seaweed and it was so refreshing. Perfect for a hot summer day. My other roll was tempura based and was great as well. The unique aspect of this place is it's late night component. Go here for some authentic sushi without the regret of busting your budget.

Stopped in to have lunch with my Grandfather and my Girlfriend. I had a tasty bowl of Udon with beef and my companions had bento boxes. The only thing that was disappointing was that, after having told them my Girlfriend is allergic to shellfish, they mixed up the orders and put my Grandfather's sushi (which had crab) on her plate. They were very nice about it, but it was a little casual for my liking.

I'm a fan of japanese food but mainly for the ramen. Tomo finally is offering a pork ramen that is so good. The broth is delicious for a shoyu base. The noodles are quite decent and not your top ramen type of noodle. The ramen bowl is nice presented in a wooden bowl that has a wooden lid. I always request for the thinly sliced pork while my partner in crime likes the shredded. Ramen comes with togarashi (aka chili powder) on the side. No hot chili oil on the side, so you can bring your own to add to the broth. The sashimi seemed pretty fresh. Nothing fishy at all. These slices are were quite large for the price. More bang for my buck, I guess.

Came in to try their Ramen. First, the ramen isn't in the menu. The server indicated that it is in the table The initial presentation was unique in a small metal pot with a wooden lid. The noodles were hidden in a milky broth that seemed fishy, but I suspect that was because of the seaweed flakes added. There was plenty of the thinly sliced pork! Overall a pleasing experience, although I felt that the seaweed added a fishy and salty taste to the broth. The restaurant is cozy and nicely decorated there is a lowered table in the corner of a floor seating experience. The ice tea is unsweetened and satellite jazz music was playing with occasional DJ interruptions. The Jazz didn't fit the Japanese decor and ambiance in my opinion. I will return to try other things on the menu.

This is a solid sushi restaurant. I got the cherry blossom roll. It had a beautiful presentation but was a little too acidic for my taste. I ended up removing the lime wedges in top. It's a little expensive though. One roll plus a house salad and tip came to $22. The salad was really small too...it probably should be complimentary. I'm definitely going to come back to check out the half price sushi nights. If the quality is the same then that's a pretty good deal!

Great sushi in Knoxville. They have great specials every day of the week. Sunday is half price sushi from 5-7pm. The sushi here is right up to par with nama, except cheaper. They are open late which is another great feature to this establishment. The rice bowls are huge and could easily be split between two people. Tomo is a better alternative to nama.

Came in solo and sat at the sushi bar. It was small with jazz playing, quiet atmosphere. Darkly lit. Good atmosphere for dates. Ordered a dragon roll and Philly roll sushi, kalimari for appetizer, and a to go shrimp yakisoba. Philly roll came out first. Tasted good. Dragon roll came out in a huge plate, very nice presentation and tasted awesome. Kalimari came out next, it was rings and cut pieces. Not tentacles, which is cool with me. To go order came out in timely manner. Would definitely come back and recommend. No complaints at all here.

One of the best sushi places in Knox: Tomo is definitely a must try place if you're in town and you're craving sushi and/or Japanese food. Whenever I'm visiting Knoxville, I will usually find time to stop by this place, especially for their late night specials on Fridays and Saturdays from 11-3am. They assemble a short menu with awesome half-off specials they are running that night. The menu changes each night so you get the chance to try something new. It's a really cute, welcoming place to get your fair fill of sushi. It's a little small, but still big enough to host larger parties. Just make sure you call ahead. It has that authentic vibe to it and also has available seating on the floor with pillows, which also helps create a cozy, homey environment. My visit this time around was actually not during a late night special, but they were still running some sort of deal when I walked in. I noticed they almost always has some kind of specials when you walk in. It's really nice and a pleasant surprise because I never know what to expect. My friend got the all-you-can-eat sushi special they were running that night. It's a really awesome deal if you want to get your sushi ooonn. They throw in a lot of specialty rolls you can choose from which is something I always look for because some places will only serve you basic rolls when you do all you can eat. If you've read my other reviews, apparently I've just been freezing lately so again, I got something warm to fix that - Tempura vegetables and Shrimp Udon Noodle Soup~ It's probably one of my favorite items to get here. I love the way it's served - in an iron bowl with a wooden lid when brought to the table and the tempura on the side. They have a wide selection of items so there's always something new to try. Service is awesome at this place! So if you don't know something or need suggestions, just ask one of them. Give this place a go if you're in the Knoxville area. Try late night Friday or Saturday. They turn down the lights, have candles, and blast some awesome music to go with your meal. A place to be when you're having late night cravings~

Here's the deal, if you get delivery, you have to pay extra for any sauce that you would normally get for free when eating in the restaurant. And it's not just 25 cents, it's a dollar per sauce cup. The sauce cup isn't even full! I have a huge issue with charging someone for something that would be free in the restaurant. I have eaten there quite a few times (as my friends like the restaurant), and they are "ok". That's it. To have this extra fee on top of their food just being average quality, I am not impressed. I will not eat there again.

We love this place for several reasons: the service is consistently nice and attentive, it's open until late on weekends, and the food is good. The menu is not the easiest to navigate, so I would recommend asking the waiter about the specials and recommendations.
(5)Judy E.
We love coming to Tomo! Food is always great!! The only thing that puts a damper on our over all experience is the lack of servers. They don't ever seem to have more than 2 servers working the floor and hostess stand. This makes for a lengthy trip but end the end it's worth it cause the food is always good!
(4)Ben B.
The fish was extremely fresh and the presentation was great! I was skeptical when I first walked in, but I'm so glad our concierge recommended this place.
(5)Dee O.
Good tasty sushi at a great price. Wonderful service and great hours. I had one of their noodle dishes which was less than stellar but the sushi has been consistently good. Will be back when the sushi craving hits!

This is a good little sushi joint. They are located in the shopping center where Ray's Sports Bar is at, but this little place is at the opposite end. It is a very small little place so if you arrive with a big party I hope they can accommodate your needs. When you walk in... there are tables in front of and to the right of you. Then to your left they have tables where you have to sit indian style on pillows and take off your shoes. That is my favorite place to sit. You might want to make sure the person you are with, you know does not have smelly feet because you could be not so pleasantly surprised when you are asked to take off your shoes... and then the odor might arrive. The sushi here is always pretty good. Nama is more of an Americanized sushi rather here is it more authentic. They don't slop sauces all over your sushi rolls like Nama would. It's straight up Sushi. Don't get me wrong I enjoy Nama's sushi too. The one thing I really enjoy about this place is that they are open later than most sushi places. It seems like they cater to many restaurant workers around town. Now with that said that they stay open later... If there is no one there, like any restaurant they will close down early. That could really suck if you are planning on going there. Your best bet is to give them a call to make sure you don't waste a tank of gas trying to get there and when you do they are closed. That would be a disappointment. The service here is hit or miss. It seems like they always forget something that I order but they are always 100% on it to make up for their mistake. Many nights they have specials and the servers do not tell you about them. Make sure you ask what they are. I posted some pictures of my experiences at Tomo. Tomo is not over-priced on their sushi either (EXAMPLE: 3 sushi rolls, a bottle of wine, a bottle of sake, salmon sashimi, edamame, miso soup, and a seaweed salad was around $60.... split 3 ways that rocked my world!!) I have yet to have a sushi roll, or sashimi on their menu that I have not liked. If you want the experience in full, go here later than you would typically dine and enjoy dining on the floor with some sake or wine. I will be back and hope to see you there too! Cheers and Enjoy!

Everything is so good! The only place that does a Philly Roll right! Perfect salmon to cream cheese ratio. Their tempura is fantastic, and I love their sushi. I'd try for half price night, though, because otherwise your sushi tab is gonna be really pricey.

This is the worst restaurant in this area. Verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry suuuuuuuuuuper salty. I ordered sukiyaki, I cannot feel my tongue after two bites. Salty to bitter taste. Awful. They left my tofu out, so do not trust your menu. I won't pay for anything for that trash, plus it is not cheap. I complained about the salty taste, they said:it is teriyaki broth,so it is salty. Ya, they used a whole bowl of teriyaki source to make the broth, think about it

Great sushi... Sat at the bar and had a great time... Next time I drive through Knoxville I'll be due to drop back in.

My boyfriend and I LOVE this place. Every time he visited, we made a point to go. I think the best thing about Tomo is their late night weekend. We've never felt the need to buy half price sushi, because the prices are pretty cheap in the first place. I don't understand why more people don't come here. Service is always friendly and courteous; I actually really like their relaxed attitude. The people here are genuine, I think. We've had dinner with the former owner a couple of times, and I can confirm that the fish they use is fresh. Unfortunately, I had to move away ... but if I'm ever in town again, I'm coming here!
(5)Jennie B.
Some of the most delicious and freshest salmon sashimi in the area. Must go back on a 1/2 price night to get more!
(4)Tara S.
This is my favorite Knoxville sushi. I think it's key to visit this location vs the North Knoxville one to have a more enjoyable experience, but that's just me. You get incredible, fresh sushi & good - not cloying or overbearing - customer service for a totally acceptable price. I love honeymoon & orange crush rolls. Try the yummy mochi for dessert: fruity, truffle-sized ice creamish thingies. So good. Late weekend hours, and I know they have good specials on Sundays. There are some seats in the front where you are seated on cushions on the floor, the rest of the dining room is comprised of small tables. It is not a huge place, keep that in mind if you go on a busy Friday or Saturday night. They have a perfectly adequate selection of beers & Sake as well.

This place is super cute! We made the mistake of bringing our bad kids which I'm sure this place is good for kids, just not ours. Anyways... we sat at one of their low traditional tables, which the kids loved. Our server was great and attentive. They had a buy one get one free deal on certain sushi that evening so we ordered a few off that menu. Their sushi is deeeeeelicious!!! I'd definitely go back again minus my kids.
(4)Lorraine P.
I'm a bigger fan of their lunch time. My husband and I aren't fans of screaming children, so the 2 times we went for dinner we had to deal with screaming kids throwing sushi and rice on the floor. The lunch box special is a favorite of mine. You get more than enough food w/ the hibachi and sushi roll of your choice. I'm a fan of their sake salmon nigori and the spicy tuna roll. The Moonstone sake is great, as well as the homemade raspberry sake. Take away the kids, and it's a nice place.

Good quality sushi, nice atmosphere

I love this place, the staff are friendly and the service is fast, i've been going there almost every weekend. the half off sushi are tasty and fresh. there is only one negative thing, everytime we go there and ordered tofu undo noodles dish, it seem have inconsistent taste.

This place left a bad taste in my mouth (not literally) about 6 years ago after a bad experience. The short of the story...I left a $7 tip and was charged a $17 tip. I tried calling numerous times to see what could be done but no one ever answered the phone. I decided our server must have needed that $10 more than I did so I decided to drop it and I just wouldn't go back....until last weekend. It was time to let it go and Wasabi was packed. We were headed to Qdoba next door but we really wanted sushi and Tomo pulled us back in. The service was ok. I ordered a diet coke and got a regular. She was cool when I asked her for a new drink. There were no pens/pencils on the table to fill out our sushi order with and we had to ask. The other server on staff that night was bad mouthing a group of people after they left as he was heading to the back with their dishes. I am guilty of this sometimes too but keep it behind closed doors. They had buy 1 get 1 on certain rolls which was nice. I ordered 3 rolls and only 1 that they brought me was the right roll. The spicy albacore was not spicy at all and they forgot to bring my husband's nigiri and he had to ask for it. I have to admit I was watching their every move and am over critical because of the past. Their sushi is ok but nothing spectacular. It will probably be another 6 years before I go back.

So I'm in Knoxville visiting family for the holidays and I like to check out the sushi places here when I visit. After seeing the positive reviews here on Yelp, we decided to eat at Tomo tonight. We ordered edamame, philly roll, crunchy shrimp roll, spicy tuna roll, jason roll, panko crunch roll, spider roll, fresh sake sashimi, and the oshinko maki. They were running a deal where if you buy a maki the second is half off which brought our relatively large 4-person meal to $62. The Jason Roll and the spicy tuna were clear favorites. The tuna wasn't ground up and mixed like it is in a lot of places. The service was quick, and all of the servers were very friendly and accommodating. I'm something of a sushi snob, and I'm convinced that this is the best sushi in the Knoxville area. My parents are fans of Wasabi, and having eaten there as well, I'm convinced that Tomo blows them out of the water. We also noticed an "all you can eat, Monday-Thursday" sign on the window. We didn't ask about it, but we're considering going back to check it out before we leave. Check this place out if you haven't -- you'll be pleasantly surprised if you've ever just driven past it and thought it was a strip mall hole-in-the-wall.

Not really authentic Japanese food, but close. The food is generally good though, if slightly overpriced. Good noodles and tempura (though made with western vegetables), ok donburi and I'm told the sushi is good. Service is ok to good. Oyakodon is nothing like the real thing. We go back on occasion as it is closer to us than the more authentic East Japanese restaurant. We used to be more regular customers several years ago when had Japanese owners and was more authentic. Lets hope they can find some real Japanese chefs in the future.

Been to Tomo, Wasabi, and Nama. This place is my favorite out of the three. More options and better prices. They have some good specials too. Certain rolls are half off on Sundays. Plus, the sushi ninjas are actually Asian. I could live without the mayo in some of the rolls. I highly doubt emulsified oil is a widespread condiment in Japan.
(4)Bryan H.
Looking for that Tokyo late night feel? Here it is! Best sushi in Knoxville .
(5)Kristi J.
I have eaten here many times and think that you just can not beat it for the pricing. The sushi is great and the steamed dumplins are really good. I would recommend this restaurant to any sushi lover looking for a good deal. The prices are great and the food is excellent!
(5)Kim V.
Delicious food but service was UNfriendly! This is the freshest sushi in Knoxville. I highly recommend it and I will be doing back. But be prepared for mediocre service. My waitress never once cracked a smile and seemed quite annoyed. Also, I ordered the sake sampler... and it is WAY too much sake for one person! I was only able to sample 4 out of the 6 and still walk a straight line when I left! :-)
(4)Duyen M.
Cozy place to hangout for late night sushi. The sushi is good. They've got some varieties of sake.Like their yakisoba.
(4)Bob L.
Went there for dinner one night. Watched the sushi chef go outside to smoke. When he came back in he went right to work handling food. I had a clear view of the kitchen and sink, and he did not wash his hands. This is unacceptable.
(1)Doug C.
I'm new to Knoxville and based on the reviews on Yelp, decided to try Tomo. I ordered the Spider roll (deep fried soft-shell crab, Masago, Avocado) and White Tuna Nigiri. Everything was very good - I have no complaints. They were offering a buy 1 get one free, so the total bill was $19 or so. The staff was vey pleasant and efficient.
(4)J B.
I went to Osaka for a bit, then came home to Knoxville. Really missed the sushi and was sad. Then found this place. I've recently moved away again, but I come back here whenever I'm in town. Some of the best authentic Japanese food in town. Great place late at night too, good music and packed with people who love midnight sushi.
