Chinese Cuisine
The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.
Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.
There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.

Delicious food. The Mongolian beef is amazing. Staff is very nice. The best Asian food I've had in south Knoxville

Every community has little jems and this place is one of those local treasures. The food was fresh and delicious and the service was friendly and attentive.

I have tried just about everything here....everything is delicious. The staff is super friendly and attentive. I do a lot of to go ordering and they prepare the food so quickly; I usually just sit and wait for it. I love the homestyle bean curd, kan-shaw chicken, and beef with broccoli. I haven't had anything that I haven't liked. They have a special menu - includes soups, egg roll, and (what I believe to be) an extremely generous portioned entree. It's only about $6.99 or so.... And yes, the outside appearance makes it look like an old fast food restaurant made over - I was sketched out about it too... But I'm sorry I ever doubted, I LOVE SZECHUAN!

Very tasty Chinese food. I've been going to Szechuan Garden for more than twenty years, and it's been consistently delicious. I usually get the Hunan Shrimp, and Hot and Sour soup. I remember the building being a Bojangles' Chicken n' Biscuits as a child, and the interior could use some re-modeling, but it still retains a lot of charm. The next time you think about spending $60.00 on "Chinese" food prepared by some bitter college student at P.F. Chang's, give this place a try instead.

I have nothing bad to say about this place. It has been a family favorite for years. Even when Wong's was open and had the all-you-can-eat buffet, we opted for Szechaun Garden probably 90% of the time. Loved Wong's in the beginning, but SG is better. So many restaurants establish themselves and rest on their laurels, letting their food and quality slip. Not SG. Not only have they improved their dining room, but the food gets better and better. One of the things they excel in is sauces. i wish they sold the Eight Treasure sauce in bottles because I would keep my kitchen stocked with it at all times. The garlic sauce is so delicious I could drink it. I absolutely love the curried chicken, but recently switched to pescatarianism, so chicken is out. Luckily, they have a curried shrimp dish that is just as wonderful - bright yellow, just enough heat, and HUGE flavorful shrimp. They also will do special requests. I asked for Eight Treasure Shrimp which is not on the menu. It was a longshot and I didn't really expect them to say yes, but they did and it was outstanding! Be sure to get the crab rangoon. I know, every Chinese place has this on the menu, but Szechuan Garden does it the best. They are large, freshly made, and bursting with crabby cream cheese with just a hint of honey. I usually get a second order of these to go (I like them cold right out of the fridge). Seriously - NOTHING bad to say about this place. :-)

Cheap and pretty standard American Chinese fare. Go for it.

AWESOME FOOD! Great prices......dinner combo was the best! Staff is VERY nice and attentive....our drinks were never empty. I love Hot and Sour soup and I am very picky about what it tastes like....I was not disapointed. Hubby ordered Hunan Beef dish with the OO soup.......he was very pleased. I had the Beef/Broccoli......also very fresh and tasty. Egg roll sauce was a bit different than I had in other places....but actually I now prefer this flavor. I also was impressed with the Chef.....he came out to our table and was concerned that we were not taking the leftovers.....he thought we didn't like our food. We are staying in the Hilton and had no way of taking back the leftovers....which made me sad. My suggestion is to plan on taking 1/2 of what they serve home. All in all a wonderful experience.....wish we could go back.

I really liked this place. The food was great and the portions large. The building and service lacked, but I was eating and tried to ignore that. I love Chinese and I will go back and recommend this place.

For over 15 years, we've eaten here almost once a month and usually carry out. We try different items instead of sticking with the same things and I can say nothing has dissappointed. Like everyone has said, the soups are exceptional, the entrees delicious, the staff the best and friendliest in town. Thank you SG for continuing to be a SoKno gem!!

I rather go here than a buffet place. I love the special fried rice. Won ton soup. It's nice inside and service is good. The servers do their best to make you happy.

Best Chinese in town, hands down. Clean, quick service, friendly staff. On more than one occasion I've just told them "I feel like spicy, but no onions," and they knew exactly the right dish.

We have been regular customers at Szechuan Garden for over 10 years. Consistently friendly staff, inexpensive good chinese food, and large servings. For around $6 their lunches are huge servings (enough for a second meal if you take some to go)... lunches include soup and eggroll. My favorite is Bean Curd Home Style with steamed rice, a veggie egg roll, and egg drop soup. Other people in my party have enjoyed Beef with Broccoli, Sweet and Sour Chicken, and several other spicy chicken dishes.

Knoxville has lots of great and fun food. But when it comes to non-Vietnamese asian, it's kind of a wasteland. If Szechuan was compared to other places in Knoxville, well over five stars. Stand alone, it's still over four stars. The soup is the highlight, which may sound like a somewhat bad precursor, but no, it's just that good. I usually get the wonton, which is flavorful, yet light, and has a thin enough pastry to not be doughy, but a seasoned filling that doesn't bust out. If not the wonton, the egg drop is amazing. It's fresh and rich, without being overpowering. The hot and sour is also fantastic. You really can't go wrong. Crab Rangoons are very flavorful and great. The spring rolls and egg rolls aren't overly exciting, but they also don't disappoint. I've gotten the fried wontons before and wasn't overly impressed. Not bad, but a little too much crust for my tastes. They have a great dinner combo option, egg roll, soup, and entree with rice, for $7.50. They have a lot of dinner options that aren't part of this combo, but the ones on the back are by far the best options here. The General's chicken is really quite good. It has some barbecue like flavor, which is a great touch. The sesame is rich and has a nice spice blend to it, without being overbearing. I could go on, but honestly, everything is really quite great. The best option is the honey chicken. It's a little sweet for my tastes, but it's really well done. I love to put a bit of mustard on it. It sound strange, but it complements the chicken and makes for an amazing combination. Takeout from here is fast and always efficient.

Szechuan Garden is an excellent contribution to Knoxville's exotic food scene (I imagine some of my California friends may be scoffing at this, but in Knoxville, a Szechuan restaurant constitutes exotic cuisine). The food here reminds me of an under-the-radar little Chinese joint in my hometown called Panda Country. Nothing extravagant, just affordable Chinese food with fresh ingredients, bold flavors, and a pleasant balance of authenticity and American extravagance. I can't count the number of times I've been disappointed by soup from a takeout Chinese restaurant. The wonton soup from SG should be posterchild for others to strive for: light but flavorful broth, delicate dumpling pastry, seasoned pork filling, and a hearty helping of wonton strips. Love it! And the General's chicken is both generously portioned with a proper amount of savory spice to it. There is almost a hint of BBQ-sauce elements to it that gives it a bit of a Tennessee flair. Great stuff. To boot, this place is open until the wee hours. Great post-party (or "pre-hangover") food if you can figure out how to get there and back.

I've been going here since it opened, which was probably about 20 years ago. I've known this family since I was a kid and they never disappoint. I can honestly say I've never had a problem with their food or service as far back as I can remember. Call-in orders are handled quick (10-15 minutes at most) and they have a drive-thru pickup window. The prices are great and the service is top notch. ....but let's talk about the food. There are not very many good Chinese options in Knoxville. They're all pretty much buffet style (yuck). Szechuan Garden has a wonderfully balanced menu of American Chinese and Traditional Chinese. I typically tend to stay away from the standards (beef and broccoli, wonton soup, etc) and go for more of the more "homestyle" choices. I love the Empress Shrimp, Mandarin Style Chicken, Beef in Oyster Sauce and Shrimp in Ginger Sauce. These types of dishes really stand out to me. I will agree with the other Yelpers that the hot and sour soup is far and away the best in town. This is a great South Knoxville gem that always delivers great food at a great price. I don't think any buffet or other Chinese place comes close to the food you'll get here.

Delicious Chinese food in an unassuming setting. Lunch specials include an entree, fried rice, egg roll and choice of soup, egg drop or hot and sour. This all for the princely sum of $5.99! The hot and sour soup was the best I have had in many many years. In fact, it is some of the best hot and sour I have ever had. It is crowded, with good reason.

Love the egg foo yung and wonton soup. My husband loves the hot and sour soup. They are fast, friendly and prices are reasonable. Worth the drive down Chapman Highway!
