I can't imagine having had stayed anywhere else. I felt more than comfortable and welcome. It was my first time traveling on my own so I was worried about how safe I would feel but I was never worried about it staying at the Maplehurst Inn. Sonny makes a great breakfast to your liking! He also gives great advice about where to go in town for sight seeing, shopping and food (all within walking distance). The room had everything I needed and was well air conditioned! Keep in mind it is an older building and there may be a few little spider webs but that was about it! Knoxville is wonderful. I plan on moving there in the near future but until then I will be staying here whenever I visit!

This place is the WORST. Do not ever stay here, not even if it's free. There are so many reasons...I don't know where to start. They tout is as a 90+ year old home, and I don't think anything has been updated or fixed in that time. The sheets are dirty and have holes in them. There are bugs & cobwebs literally everywhere. The bathrooms are dingy (pea green toilet from the 60's with a white toilet seat that doesn't fit). The divider between the shower and the toilet is a paper-thin plastic sheet that doesn't close. The shower curtain fell on me in the bathroom. The tiles in the shower are falling off and the ones that are left are literally held to the wall by mildew. Wi-fi doesn't work in the rooms. Credit cards are strongly discouraged and some fuzzy math is required to get to your cash discount amount. I could go on and on and on. It is simply disgusting. Just don't stay here. Period. (unless you want endless investment tips from Sonny. Colloidal silver!!)

Close to University of Tennessee! We were in town visiting our son who is a student at UT. It was a game weekend and we had tickets so most of the hotels were running $250 to $300 a night which I find ridiculous! I was thrilled when I found this place within walking distance of the university because no one wants to drive in game day traffic! If you are looking for luxury then go pay the rip off prices at one of the nearby hotels. This is a historic Bed and Breakfast and it is like staying with a distant family member. Sonny does everything possible to make your stay pleasant. He is friendly and welcoming. He also makes a wonderful breakfast! There is a casserole every morning in addition to bread, fruit, pastries and a variety of other items. We stayed in the Golden Angel room and the room was very nice! The bathroom could use some renovating. The tub/shower sat down in the floor so you walked down into it. It was a nice deep tub so I had to take a bath. As I was relaxing in the tub I noticed the areas that could use a bit of improvement. Overall it was still a relaxing bath. You will feel comfortable here and Sonny has many great suggestions for restaurants and activities.

If I could stay at my grandpas house, this is what I would think it would be like. THanks yelpers for rating this one so well. My mother in law, 2 month old and I stayed for a night in Knoxville as a halfway point in our trip. We wanted to go somewhere that wasn't a chain and was reasonably priced. Mapelhurst is within walking distance of several restaurants and venues, and great sites from all around. We could see the Tennessee River from our room window, which was great. The beds were very plush and comfortable. Our room had a sink in the main room, toilet and tub in a separate room. The tv remote didn't work but that's not a big problem. Sonny was very welcoming, giving us a good layout of restaurants and attractions. He made us yummy eggs and sausage in the morning as well as coffee, toast, and fruit. We had a lovely time and it was great to be in a quiet, homey spot that provided so much! It is an historic home- it's old. Don't expect the paint and wallpaper to be perfect. It just adds to its charm .

My wife and I wanted to get away for a weekend, and the Maplehurst gave us exactly what we needed: privacy and comfort while still being in a convenient location. A lot of people on other sites have mentioned chipped paint, this or that being cracked. To us anything like that (and we noticed very little of it) just added to the charm. If it's available, book the penthouse! If not, try for the Congressional room. We will absolutely be staying there again in the future.

This B&B is in an historic home on West Hill Avenue, within easy walking distance of Knoxville's downtown attactions as well as the University of Tennessee main campus. It has become my usual sleepover spot when I am in town on business. The Maplehurst offers comfortable accommodations in a charming atmosphere. The beds are comfortable (I've slept in 6 of their rooms) and the place is clean. Breakfast consists of a wonderful egg casserole or Sonny will cook eggs and bacon or sausage to order. There is ample fruit, cereal, toast, juice, and pastry options to go with your hot breakfast as well. The free wireless Internet access is usually very reliable, although it was on the fritz last time I visited - Sonny told me he had just installed a new router and was having problems with it. They get four stars because the carpet is somewhat worn in areas and the house does show its age at times. But the location, comfort and hospitality make those shortcomings easy to overlook. At $89 - $99 per night in this location, it can't be beat. (Note that rates do increase a bit on UT football weekends and during other special events). Give them a try, and tell Sonny that Jeff from Roanoke told you to call!

We stayed here in 2001 and had a great time. Location is ideal, close to downtown as well as UT. Sonny, the owner was so gracious and like Jeff said, the breakfast was awesome. We're planning a trip to Knoxville in the next year and are planning on staying here.

The Maplehurst was undergoing some fairly significant renovations during our stay and there were a few hiccups that I'm willing to attribute to that. Overall it was a pleasant stay made even more so by the easy access to all of downtown Knoxville and the over the top friendlieness of the staff.
