Good BBQ, down-home style. The service was good and friendly, but the place could use a freshening and a good cleaning - like several other places in this area don't miss the food just because of the missed potential of what it could be. If you're thinking of either this or sweet p's down the street I'd go here every time!

This place was great! Great service, great food, & we even got complimentary banana pudding! Highly recommended.

Passing thru Knoxville, TN...you HAVE to experience the hospitality of these owners...oh...yeah...their BBQ and Beef Brisket is very very good!

I went to this place based on all the five-star yelp reviews and it was worth every bit of the time to go find it. I travel on business and make it a hobby to hunt down the best local barbecue in each town I visit. This Christian small business is 5 years old and the long time dream of it's "loving" owners...... Slaw is made by 85 year old Grandma every morning. Goes without saying, the ribs fall off the bone. Warmth and friendliness off the chart. Why go to a chain restaurant that you can go to in any town, when you can keep your money local and have some fabulous home cooked bbq?

Excellent bbq - tender brisket, great fresh cut fries, best hush puppies ever !! Lemonade and sweet tea plentiful. All sides are homemade and a fresh baked cake too !

Hidden gem indeed. If you are looking for REAL BBQ, there is no other place hands down better than this place. Their ribs are falling off the bone, so tender and juicy, smothered in the best sauce i have ever had, delicious home cooked baked beans, coleslaw, you name it, if it goes with BBQ they have it and have perfected it. The staff, which are the owners are very nice and friendly. It looks like an old gas station, but it really works for them. Stop by and try it, you wont be dissapointed.

Found this place thanks to yelp. We are moving across the country from Brooklyn, NY to Santa Fe, NM and have been really looking forward to trying some BBQ along the way. It's kind of the real reason for the move. Just kidding. Sort of. This place is a little tucked out of the way as the previous reviewers mention. It's not too far off the highway and definitely worth the drive through a very pretty residential area. I had decided in advance what I would try but they didn't have brisket when we arrived....I was a tad disappointed but definitely no tragedy because I opted for the half rack instead and my bf got the same. Your plate comes with two sides and two hush puppies. I opted for coleslaw and potato salad. The sides come out on their own plate. They alone are a meal in themselves. The ribs were succulent and fork tender. The sauce was delicious and IMO true to their prospective descriptions (mild is really mild; hot is actually hot). I found the hush puppies a tad salty but really liked the touch of peppers and onions inside and intend to try that whenever I get around to making some of my own. One day.... Potato salad was really good and my favorite thing by far was the coleslaw. Chopped real fine with the perfect amount of sweetness and mayo. There's nothing worse than gloppy slaw. I could eat a half gallon of that stuff in one sitting I swear. My bf let me try some of his beans which were also excellent. They had some tidbits of meat and green peppers in there and were seasoned very nicely. I am an Ice Tea fanatic and super picky about it - annoyingly so - and theirs was tasty, the perfect strength, and really refreshing. I was stuffed to the gills when we left and did not eat for two days after, literally. I really should have halved it and took some to go but that's tuff to do while traveling. Plus I couldn't stop myself. If I lived in this town I would be a thousand pounds because of this place. Honestly. The decor was nothing fancy, it really felt like someone's living room. Complete with lazy boy recliner poised in front of a big screen tv playing some kind of sports. I only noticed any of it after stuffing my face tho. The food is definitely the star of the show here. In retrospect we should have taken advantage of the outdoor picnic benches. The service was friendly, especially the young lady at the counter that took our order. Definitely hope to make it back to Love That BBQ one day!!

Still by far the best BBQ in Knoxville, and the best I've had anywhere. Also, get cole slaw and add it to your nachos. Game changer.
(5)Eric D.
Three things to get: pulled pork sandwich, smoked fried bologna sandwich and BBQ hotdog (with everything). Great place near UT hospital.

Don't let the outside scare you. Delicious BBQ and food is waiting for you inside. I had the ribs and meat just fell off the bones. Tons of meat and just enough fat for flavor. It came with two hush puppies that were just ok, not bad, just not wonderful. My cole slaw, that was wonderful and the hand cut fries, could've eaten a whole plate full. My husband had pulled pork sandwich with beans and tater salad. He said the pulled pork was outstanding, very tender and great flavor. His sides were good. Everything was homemade which totally hit the spot! If you have a little extra time to drive there, it's worth the stop.

Talk about a hidden gem! Thank goodness for Yelp. The friendly folks at Love That BBQ are well aware that they're tucked away in a small residential area - and they quipped that new customers are always a bit surprised to find them there. Rest assured, your GPS is taking you to the right place. My gal and I swung by to grab some lunch on our way out of town and boy, are we glad we did. It might look like an old gas station on the outside, but make no mistake - it's barbecue heaven inside. My mouth is already watering, and I haven't even started talking about the food! After careful consideration and some advice from behind the counter, we split a half-rack of ribs, some brisket, baked beans, coleslaw, potato salad, fries, and of course - the hush puppies. Ever eat something so delicious that you threw trivial things like stomach capacity to the wind? That's exactly what happened. I regret nothing. Here are my thoughts on each item: The Ribs: Hands-down, without a doubt, the best I've ever had. The smoke that those magical smokers out front puts on these bad boys is incredible - and as promised, the bones slid right out. If you're in Knoxville and you're reading this - what's the matter with you? Close Yelp and go buy some ribs. The Brisket: Flavorful and oh-so-tender. The pressure of my fork was enough to make the pieces fall apart. It would be annoying if it weren't so delicious. A small amount of fat is kept on the outside of the cuts to keep the flavor in. Baked Beans: In a word, hearty. With tasty meat and peppers mixed in. An expertly crafted side dish. Coleslaw: Fresh and well-balanced. Another winner. Potato Salad: Chunky, tasty, and generously topped with paprika. Home run. Fries: Fresh cut and perfectly seasoned. I couldn't stop eating them. Some of the best out there. Get them. Hush Puppies: Hot, fresh, and a great way to soak up the flavors on your plate. And unless you want extra - you don't have to take up a side dish slot with them. Bonus! There you have it. This is can't-miss Tennessee barbecue. The prices are reasonable and the food is masterfully cooked. The locals know it, too. In the time we were there, several lucky neighbors passed through to get their fix (apparently the smoked bologna sandwich is a must-have). And the nice folks running the place knew them all by name. If I could, I'd be on a first-name basis too. We ate until we could eat no longer, bought a t-shirt, and promised ourselves we'd come back next time we were in Knoxville. I hope that day comes sooner than later. Thank you, Love That BBQ, for the warm welcome - and for the best meal of our entire trip.

If you are looking for fancy this is not it. If you are looking for friendly people and really good BBQ you need to give this place a shot. The meat was so tender it had to have been cooking for days. I prefer a mild sauce and to be honest their's is not any different from most I have had but you get a good portion of meat and that's what counts. Hush-puppies and fries were good and fresh.

This place is a hidden gem. Passing through on the way to Nashville we found this place of yelp. It deserves all the stars it's getting in the reviews. Little country place--nothing fancy-- but great food. Ribs, pulled pork, cole slaw, and lemonade were all fantastic and reasonably priced.

Went here for lunch today and had the ribs. Hey were fall off the bone good. I could pull it apart with ny fork. This place is down home and friendly! Great place to eat!
(5)Chris G.
Such a great place. The best BBQ I've had. I swear the hush puppies are made with crack. The staff was super friendly. The location is such a cute little place. SO much charm and such good food, you can't go wrong.
(5)William B.
Food is absolutely incredible. Everything from the delicious brisket to the hush puppies was wonderful. Completely raises my standard om bbq. The staff there are filled with southern kindness and when you pull up to this hole in the wall place, you can already smell delicious meet cooking and you feel like Guy Ferrari finding a Gem. The surrounding area is also very scenic so be sure to explore afterwards.

Hubby and I were passing through Knoxville on our way home to PA at about 10 am on Monday 11/24/14 and I had the epiphany that it wouldn't make a bit of sense to leave TN without at least attempting to get some bbq. We decided to use Yelp to find a place nearby that was open. The stars all aligned and we ended up with the best bbq we've ever eaten. First of all, these were some of the kindest, loveliest people we've ever met. Mr & Mrs L. were extremely accommodating with wrapping our bounty for travel. They needn't have bothered with carefully wrapping the brisket sandwich because it didn't make it out of the parking lot. I couldn't control myself. It was packed full of the most incredible, moistest, smoked to perfection meat that we ever tasted. We brought home 4 slabs of ribs on ice to share with our daughter. I heated them just as I was instructed and they were super tender (the bones pulled right out) and perfect with the mild sauce. (Man that's some great sauce!) My husband and daughter then proceeded to grudgingly share the one piece of fresh baked German chocolate cake that we bought. They said it was amazing. Because of our long journey home, we didn't attempt to transport any sides. That would have to be my one regret. It's all just a fond memory now and I can truly say that we've eaten plenty of bbq from all over, but we all three agree that Love That Bbq is the best we've ever had.

I ordered the nachos and they were delicious! The brisket was tender, moist, and flavorful! Walt us a nice guy and very welcoming. I would definitely come here here again.

The food was amazing. I got the BBQ sandwich with beans and potato salad along with the lemonade. I tried the hot and smokin hot sauces, both were great with the sandwich. If you're in the area, stop by. You won't regret it. The service was also fantastic. Everyone was nice and the food was served quickly.

TLDR: Some of the most solid bbq in Knoxville at completely reasonable prices. The sauces were very good, with the hot actually being hot. The hours are not so great (close at 7 and closed on Sunday). Bbq nachos, brisket, pork, and ribs were all good, but the ribs needed more seasoning. They have a sampler plate not listed on the menu. Full Review: We came for lunch a few Saturdays ago. The restaurant is on scenic Maryville Pike much closer to Knoxville than Sweet P's. The building is a converted gas station with picnic tables and the smokers under the roof where the pumps used to be. There is ample parking. The place is pretty homey feeling on the inside despite the sterile light from the fluorescents. The kitchen and the dining area are separated by a counter where you place your order. We were greeted by the couple that owns the place and they were the only two working that day. The website dubs the husband as Boss Hog. Both were friendly. Our table of four gave our orders which consisted of a brisket plate, two rib plates, a bbq sandwich, and bbq nachos. For sides we got slaw, fries, beans, and potato salad. I was disappointed by the lack of greens on the menu. Each plate came with hush puppies which I had heard were good. Drinks are a little stingy here. If you get lemonade or tea you are only allowed one refill. If you get soda, juice, or milk you get no free refills. The ubiquitous soda fountain is not present in the dining room. You are given a cup of ice when you order and can fill up on tea or lemonade. My better half thought the lemonade was quite nice. Given the amount of food we ordered, I thought the prices were pretty reasonable (somewhere around 28.00 for half rack plate, brisket plate, nachos all-the-way, and one drink). After we ordered and got drinks we sat down and waited for the food. The sauces were up at the counter. They had three types, mild, hot, and smokin hot. I'll get to those later. Our intention was to have the bbq nachos as an app and then eat the rest. This was not really possible because the plates and bbq sandwich came out almost immediately with the bbq nachos coming out later. If you go in and intend to have something as a starter, you probably need to let them know that before ordering anything. The half slabs of ribs were a good size, much bigger than what I usually get at Sweet P's. As far as smoke flavor and texture, these were unequaled in Knoxville. They were very tender and you could taste the smoke throughout the meat. The chef's skill at smoking meat was immediately apparent. My problem was with flavor. The ribs needed minimally some seasoning, but ideally a good dry rub or mop. Other than the smoke flavor, they were pretty bland. The brisket was also extremely tender and had a good amount of fat on it. Boss Hog came by while I was cutting into it and said he leaves the fat on to keep it tender. I told him I wasn't complaining bc I love the fat. Like I said, the brisket was extremely tender, but this time I thought it was a little less smoky than I would like. This is where the sauce came in. I tried both the hot and the smokin hot. All the sauces seemed to be tomato-based, but not too much tomato. Both the hot and smokin hot actually had heat, though I didn't think the smokin hot lived up to its name. Both had good flavor and were not hot for hot's sake alone. They were an excellent addition to the brisket, the pork, and the ribs. The bbq nachos were pretty good too. The bbq pork was tender and flavorful. Not the best pork I've had but some of the best I've had in Knoxville. We got our nachos all-the-way, which I recommend, and they were a huge plate for 5.50. The sides were ok. The slaw was pretty good, but the wife didn't care for it. Same with the potato salad. Neither blew me away though. The beans were similar. They were good, but not much more than that. The hush puppies, which I had heard about, were pretty solidly bad. They had good texture, were crispy on the outside, soft but not mushy on the inside. Unfortunately someone stubbed their toe when adding the salt. My wife loves salty food but she couldn't palate more than one of these puppies. I'd try them again, though, because maybe they just messed up on the batter this time. They had some strawberry cake on the counter. We had too much food to try it, but it looked damn good. Also on certain weeknights they have banana pudding they make with nutter butters instead of vanilla wafers. I want some of that. The only problem is they are open only until 7PM so on weeknights it's hard to get out here. All in all our experience was a good one. I will certainly be back. This food at this price was better overall than any other bbq restaurant I've had in Knoxville. Also, the owners were friendly and checked on us several times. Now we'll see if they can keep it up through multiple experiences.

Fantastic food and friendly atmosphere. The hush puppies alone are worth the trip! Favorite BBQ in town.

Well my first experience here was an all around winner. I got a full rack of ribs with slaw and beans. The owner came to the table and said, "give that bone a pull". Well I did and the slightest pressure yielded a clean separation of bone from meat. He said, "we don't serve 'em unless the bones'll do that". Meat tasted amazing. Slaw is handmade by grandma every morning. A true Knoxville gem and one of the finer BBQ spots in the south. Go today.

We stopped here on a road trip cause all the reviews were so positive. We were extremely happy with the quality of BBQ we got. Everyone working there was so friendly and made sure that everything we were eating was made correctly. I had the half rack of ribs that fell completely off the bone and some of the most delicious hush puppies. Ignore the smaller amount of reviews this place is awesome
(5)Peter B.
Mom and Pop place, literally. The ribs and beans were amazing, maybe the best in Knoxville! If you're traveling south of the River, you can avoid the hype of going to Sweet Peas and head right on over to Love That BBQ instead. You wont regret it. Trust.

We were Northerners on a roadtrip back to Chicago, and I found these spot thanks to fellow Yelpers. After a 10 minute ride through a strictly residential neighborhood, we weren't sure what we would find, but when we DID find Love That BBQ, we were immediately welcomed by the two owners and offered some really, really fine BBQ. The prices were reasonable, the location clean, and the owners couldn't be nicer (they even offered us a few tips when we admitted to recently buying our own very first smoker!). But really you should just go here for the meat: my half slab of ribs was GIGANTIC, smokey, and I basically BLINKED at the meat and it fell away from the bone. My travel partner raved about his pulled pork sandwich. Sides were good, especially the hush puppies, which had a delicious green pepper and onion crunch on the inside. But, again. Look at these pictures. Do you see that pork? You want to be eating that. You want to be eating that. Right. Now. You'll be glad you made the trip, whatever the length, to visit these kind people and their roadtrip-worthy food.

This is one of the greatest finds I've ever had the pleasure of stumbling upon in Tennessee. As an avid, barbecue enthusiast, I know my barbecue and this is some of the best in the country. Their ribs are absolutely incredible, and their sides are so good they'll make you want to steal the family recipe. Not to to mention the sauce is liquid gold!! PURE DELICIOUSNESS!!! I will without a doubt be stopping at "Love That BBQ" on my way back through Tennessee. If you're in the area I recommend you make the drive, and if you're 100 miles away I recommend you make the drive as well! This is a true gem and I have no problem pointing in the direction of "Love That BBQ" for some good, quality Barbecue!!
(5)Dan P.
I think the other reviews cover this place pretty well. The food is really good. You HAVE to get the french fries, they are of the fresh hand cut variety and are just really good. I recommend getting the BBQ pork sandwich (my favorite) but I also enjoy their hotdogs and my friend loves their smoked bologna sandwich (they smoke the bologna themselves and then fry it when you order it). My only complaint here is the drink selection. They have water that is not very good tasting or you can get canned soda. Of course that leaves tea, which would be fine; BUT they have a sign posted that says 1 refill only. Really? Sweet tea costs virtually NOTHING to make. Everyone should give them a little ribbing on their 1 refill policy so maybe they will get rid of that sign because tea is really the only viable drink option here. Bottom Line: Most definitely give this place a shot. I will say they can be a little inconsistent. So, if the first time you go it doesn't quite tickle your fancy; give it 1 more shot before writing it off.

My travel partner and I each ordered half a rack of ribs at Love That BBQ. Each plate came with two sides and a duo of hot, freshly fried hush puppies, spotted with fresh green bell pepper and expertly seasoned. The rib meat fell off the bone and was tender and succulent. The homemade bbq sauces were tangy and not overpowering, complementing the smokiness of the meat. The owners were welcoming and warm. We felt right at home as we chatted with the other patrons and admired the pig-centric decorations.
