Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

This is definitely one of my Go-To Mexican Restaurants in town. The service is usually pretty good. Now for the takeout orders double check your bags 90% of the time they leave something out. My absolute favorite thing about this place are the soft shell chicken tacos. The chicken is shredded, tender and juicy. They are on the side orders menu, order 3 at a time or 1 at a time. My suggestion is to order however many people you are trying to feed and order the tacos in 3. It's definitely worth the money and you can get at least 9 tacos for under $10. The other things I enjoy here are: Chimichanga Chalupa Nachos Cheese Dip *Soft Shell Chicken Tacos (mentioned above) Enchiladas Chicken fajita quesadilla The only thing I'm really not crazy about here is their beef. I would suggest ordered chicken. Trust me, you will agree. If you want a beef taco then go to Chez Guevara (aka La paz - my fav place for beef). If you are in the area and craving Mexican food then swing on in here and get ya some tasty chicken tacos!! I hope you're a fan just like me! Cheers & Enjoy!

This is the closest Mexican restaurant to my office, and my team finds itself here at least every other week. I actually came here for lunch during my interview with my whole team! This place, like most Mexican restaurants around town, are that unique Southeastern-style Mexican food - lots of cheese, lots of sauces. I find the quality of ingredients here far better, though! The salsa alone is great, and I think their hot salsa is the best in town. I always love the colorful chairs and tables!! The waiters are super friendly. It is just overall very good ambiance. For the food: - Their mole` was also on freakin' point!!!!! Get it! - Their carne asada burrito should be a la carte b/c I have NO IDEA how anyone eats the rice & salad it comes with! Ssssoooooooo good tho - Chicken verde burritos!! Their verde salsa is really good! Some of my fave in this raea - Shrimp quesadillas are so filling and juicy!! - Mixed fajitas (chicken & steak) are so tender!!!

I haven't been here for a little while, and they sure have stepped up their game! The salsa is hot and on the thin side; the chips are delicious. Tonight I had the beef chimi, and I'm glad I did! The beef is so tender and juicy, and my only suggestion is that the chimi could have been fried a little longer. Otherwise, everything was amazing! The waitstaff is so courteous!

I have tried several Mexican restaurants in town and this one besides the food truck was very good. The service was fast and food had good flavor. The burrito was filled with plenty of meat and vegetables. I definitely want to return to this restaurant.

Solid 4 Stars...I came in by myself because I'm driving from FL to MI and the editor seemed annoyed that I was a party of one...I suppose he figured the tip would be small...the God came out quickly and it was very good... Fairly priced...I'd say even on the cheaper side...Large portions...I recommend the place based on those factors.

Cancun is a pretty solid choice if you want standard (American) Mexican. There's not really anything unique on the menu, but the food is good, prices are reasonable, and service is great. As of April 2012, they also had an extremely high health inspection rating (91), and when you have lots of places that serve essentially the same thing, that can go a long way for some people.

Like it. Good food and nice people and inexpensive.

Not bad for Mexican delectables in Knoxville. Hidden behind some shops off of Cedar Bluff Rd and Peters Lane, The restaurant offers good dishes with homemade pork which is excellent. The enchiladas are very good and you cannot beat the Blue Agave Margaritas!!

This was standard Mexican fare. The prices were good and the portions were quite big. It was very tasty and we enjoyed it a lot. The service was about the best we've experienced in a while. I highly recommend.

OK, for starters, I love me some Mexican food. I'm pretty sure I could live the rest of my life on chips and salsa alone. This particular Cancun is the only one I've been to around K-town, but I go back week in and week out...but probably because it's so close to my office, and pretty cheap for what you get. Gotta say though - best chimichanga in town (although Pelancho's is a close second)! Deep fried burrito? Heaven. Unfortunately, they tend to get their lunch and dinner menu prices mixed up a lot - it's happened to me at least 3 times, and they always seem so annoyed when I ask them to correct it. If I'm there at lunch and I'm ordering an item that is served on the lunch menu, please assume that I'm ordering the (cheaper) lunch item and not the dinner item! Also has kick-ass top shelf margaritas on Thursdays for the mere price of $3.50 (though I think it used to be $3 even). They may not be big, but sure pack a punch.

My first time rating. Always would get my mexy fix here. The last time (2 months ago) I was over charged and when i brought it to the waiters attention he accused me of trying to get a free meal. Stopped in today. He is giving me more then I am asking for. WOW. People please itemize your receipt's. Can't wait to see my bill.

I've lived down the street from this place for a year and haven't tried it until just yesterday because I kept forgetting about it because It's hidden. I'm glad I found it. I went for lunch and ordered their special chicken lunch dish. It was 5.49$ and the portion was huge! I thought the chicken was very tender and the cheese sauce they put on top was delicious. My friend got a fried fish dish called the majarro and it was also huge! They had great lunch specials so ill Def be back again. I also noticed they had 2 margaritas for 7$ on thursdays so ill have to try that next time

We showed up 10 minutes before happy hour was over and ordered their house margarita (happy hour special). Our server looked at his watch and raised his eyebrows like he didn't want us to get the special. He then asked if we wanted them frozen or on the rocks. We both ordered on the rocks and they both came back frozen. We also ordered bean dip that was half price and we ended up having to pay full price for it because we didn't want to put up with the waiter. When we finally ordered our food I was amazed that it came out as we ordered it. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't great either. Needless to say, I won't be going back there for awhile.

The Rte 40/640 construction had me stopping past Knoxville rather than north of it and gotta tell you it was worth driving longer from Pennsylvania to eat at this place. I was there on Margerita night and it was one of the best rita's I've had in a long time. Had Chili rellenos and it was wonderful as were the salsa and chips - also had a chicken fajita on the next trip..wonderful! Price actually cheaper than my a California Taco close to where I live and the food is better. It would be a bargain at any price!

We got off the interstate to find a Mexican restaurant, got lost, and ended up here. I couldn't find a health score on the wall so I was a little scared but I really enjoyed my meal. I had the quesadilla grande which is basically a meat lovers quesadilla. Seriously. It had chorizo, steak, chicken, and shrimp. If I happen to get lost again I would check this place out.

I have eaten here a couple of times lately. I expected typical Mexican fare. But you know what? It was really good! They had a nice menu with an interesting selection! I have definitely added it to my list. Both times I have had some kind of seafood burrito with shrimp and crab. It is filled with seafood! They are not skimpy at all with it like most people are with seafood. I have heard of it for years, but have never been. I guess the goodness has allowed them to survive so long. I would certainly try it if I were you!

Since moving here from California four years ago, we've looked high and low for a restaurant that serves California style Mexican food. We'd all but given up until a friend suggested we try Cancun. As far as location, it's not in the best or most visible of places. It can be seen from Cedar Bluff as you get off of or get onto I-40, but when you try to find it, it's hid behind Puelos and a small strip mall where there's an embroidery store and a T-shirt place. We arrived on a Sunday afternoon, after the Sunday lunch bunch crowd had had their fill. The exterior of the building looks to be in need of some paint, but inside is quite a different story. Sparkling clean, with splashes of color everywhere and filled with Mexican-themed furniture, murals, ceramic tiles and Mexican music playing overhead. The menus were delivered to our table by Manuel who also was our server. The menus were colorful and clean (so many places have menus with food stains on them but not here) and there were so many options, that it took about 15 minutes before we narrowed down our choices for lunch. My wife had a house Margarita and I had their house Sangria. Both were exceptional with no stinginess in the alcohol whatsoever. I ordered the Molcajete which is a mexican word used to describe a volcanic mortar and pestle and my wife had the Taco Salad in a Flour shell. Now before you think I ate volcanic stone, it was merely the vessel wherein the delicacy was served. Simply put, the contents of the molcajete are more or less fajitas. This particualr order included chicken, beef and shrimp, onions, tomatoes, bell peppers and jalapenos. When it arrived at the table, the veggies and meat were still cooking away in the molcajete that is heated to perhaps 400 degrees. The preface of the menu makes this promise "Your taste buds are in for a treat," and they weren't kidding. One of the things that is so common in the South is for Mexican Restaurants to serve dishes such as chimichangas with cheese sauce ladeled over the top. We asked our server, Manuel if this is how they do it. He got very excited and went on to explain that he had just returned from a trip to the San Francisco Bay area and when he and one his cousins went out to eat, he saw they way a chimichanga is prepared there ... with ALL of the ingredients INSIDE the flour tortilla, deep fat fried and served with a dollop of guacamole, sour cream and salsa on top (representative of the Mexican flag) AND NO CHEESE SAUCE. He said he loved it so much, that he would teach the cooks and if anyone wanted on California-style, they would know how to do it. My wife's Taco Salad was a sure hit as well and she ate every last tasty morsel. After four years, I was beginning to think that we would never find Mexican Food to fit our discriminating tastes, but after Sunday's visit, we've found OUR MEXICAN RESTAURANT! They take credit cards, have an outside patio for dining (although it is a bit noisy due to the nearby freeway traffic, and they have a full bar area and a full alcoholic drink menu. The prices are quite reasonable and I can't get over how HAPPY I AM after discovering this jewel.
