Hard to find. We drove past Buddy's on the faith of Yelp but almost drove back. Happy we took the additional 15 minutes it took to find it. We aren't locals, so maybe that was it. Clean, bright, grateful dead meets country boy atmosphere. My road weary nerves appreciated the chillness of it. (and the clean bathrooms!!) Portions and prices seemed reasonable. Food was good. Only 3 stars. Kinda dry pulled pork and ribs needed to be smoked more. They didn't 'fall offa the bone', ya know? I loved the vinegar based BBQ sauce. They all were pretty good, nothing too sweet. Sides were good. Beans not too sweet (my peeve with bbq) and the greens were tasty. Both were a little watery, but flavorful. I'd go back if in the area and hungry. But they could improve the food a bit.

First of all I am very disappointed in myself for not getting a picture of meal! So this was my first visit and... I'll come back again. First the pulled pork, yes it's pulled and it is smoked! And very important to me, it comes less sauce served over Texas toast. They had multiple sauces but I found a pretty good Vinegar sauce which is what I always hit if available. I prefer that vinegar sauce to have a little more kick of pepper in it. Along with the pulled pork I had baked beans and loaded potato salad. The baked beans were nice, I really enjoyed them. They could have used a little more pork in them. The loaded potato salad... now this is what I will remember most. It ranks as one of the best I've had. My next visit I hope to be able to try their ribs.

I enjoyed a soft smoked pork sandwich and really enjoyed their St. Louis bbq sauce. The staff were friendly and conversational. Only gave four stars because they weren't serving brisket. But hey, if you want some good pork , check em out

BBQ pork dinner was good. Served over a piece of bread. Sides were great. Free refills on drinks at self-serve station. Cool location attached to another business in Bearden. Would definitely return.

It knocked my socks off how good it was! I got a chicken sandwich and I have never seen such delicious and juicy white meat chicken piled on a sandwich. Several sauces and all good. Love the potato salad. I think I will say it is the best barbecue that I have ever had.

Archer's is wonderful. The pulled pork is very flavorful and not dry but moist. The perfect amount of smoke flavor. But the ribs are outstanding. The ribs are prepared with dry rub and perfectly cooked. The meat easily pulls off the bone. 100% recommend Archer's BBQ!

  • Elizabeth N.

Hands down best ribs in Knoxville. The dry rubbed ribs are so meaty and tender and the baked beans have a hint of tang without being too sweet. On par, or even better than the ribs from the Rendezvous.

My boyfriend and I Stopped in on our way home to MI from GA. Totally worth the 5 min drive off of 75! This place is very small, holds about 25 people. You place your order at the counter and they give you the food right there (they also have bottled/canned beer!) we both ordered a pulled pork sandwich with a side(loaded baked potato salad and baked beans) and a drink, the total was less that $20! The pork was AMAZINGGGGLY tender! They had six different sauce options on the table, all were really good. I highly recommend going here if you're in the area! Just have a sharp eye, the location is kind of hidden.

Hey, Archer's has great bbq! I am very familiar with their pulled pork, which is amazing. In my opinion, smoking meat is like an art form. It's just beautiful. The meat is so good here, but if we're being completely honest about what sets it apart...I'm going to say it's the scratch-made sauce collection. Memphis style, spicy, Carolina mustard--there's a sauce for everyone. I like to put different sauces on each bite...it's just FUN. Can't forget about the collard greens and the sweet potato chips! Very memorable. Also, the brookie (brownie and chocolate chip cookie batter swirled together and baked), is an incredible idea! Who hasn't had this dessert fantasy?!

Delicious! We stopped here on our way to Bonnaroo and I'm SO glad this was suggested to us. We were craving some good Southern BBQ & this place hit the spot. I ended up getting the pulled pork sandwich and just topping it with regular BBQ sauce, but they have a couple of interesting options to choose from. Would definitely recommend!

Good ribs, green beans, and sweet potato chips. All gluten free, but all made with sugar so beware if you are sugar free.

I love Doorstep Delivery. Always on time. Food still hot, etc. But, the food from Archers is HORRIBLE. Almost unedible. I wish you wouldn't work with them, but I understand you need as many places as you can get. Buddy's is 10X better. In fact, the sauce to Archers Barbeque is so repulsive, I am going to Buddies today to buy their sauce. Archer's also sent applesauce in a hospital like container where you take the foil top off with your fingers. Their banana pudding was NOT banana pudding. It had a banana in the midst of whipped cream. No flavor of banana at all. I know its not my place to complain about a restaurant you serve, but I will also YELP Archers. The absolute WORST barbecue and sides I have ever had. In fact, the sweet potato fries were fried in rancid oil!!! I love your service though and will always use you for delivery as your delivery people are always so nice and prompt and never ever seem exhausted. So for YOUR service I give it 5 stars.

Pulled pork sandwiches all the way around. 4 thumbs up. The sweet potato chips were perfectly crisp and sweet. The potato salad was like known we have every had before and so delicious! They have 6 sauces that you can pick from. We tried all six and the consensus was that the original was the best!

  • Forrest B.

Let me begin by saying that I really wanted to like Archers. I've had some of their sandwiches before at events they've catered, but I finally decided to go in today and try the place. We went around 2pm and the place was empty. We got a platter, which came with two sides, a sandwich meal, and a third of a rack of ribs. I got pork for the platter, which came with Texas toast, and for the sides I got coleslaw and sweet potato chips. My girlfriend got chicken for her sandwich and we got potato salad as that side. The pork was good, moist and flavored. Nothing special, but it was pretty average. The ribs had a dry rub on them, which was pretty good, but pretty generic at the same time. On the other hand, the chicken was pretty dismal. It was completely unflavored and uninteresting. Not even the sauces could save it. Speaking of sauces, they're the saving grace. There's six sauces, each representing the flavors across the nation (Carolina, Memphis, St. Louis, Kansas City), an original sauce, and a moonshine vinegar. The four regional flavors are all quite different, but each is pretty solid. The original is decently bland, but if you're into that sort of thing, you'd probably be a big fan. However, the moonshine vinegar was amazing. I would put it on basically everything. Really tasty stuff, and it combined with the other sauces pretty well. The toast was alright, but the bun on the sandwich was just plain bad. Bread usually isn't a big concern to me, but if it's bad, that's a huge blow to everything else. As for the sides, the sweet potato chips were good, but had clearly been sitting under a heater all afternoon, which left them with a slightly warm temperature, which was pretty awkward. The coleslaw was fine, but again, nothing special. But, the loaded potato salad...holy crap. It was so freaking good. With bacon flavors, and not too much dressing, it was great. As for price, I'm happy to pay a lot for great barbecue. In fact, I'm happy to pay a good deal with good barbecue. However, for mediocre food, I could have gotten a much better barbecue meal elsewhere. Overall, Archers is just fine. It's not great. It's not bad. Pretty average stuff, which is really disappointing given all the things I've heard about it. The sauce is delicious, as is the potato salad, but things like bad bread really put a damper on a meal.

  • Lisa R.

My husband and I stopped in here for lunch on our way back to Kentucky from Georgia, and I am so glad we did! We each got Captain Almond's BBQ Sundae--one with coleslaw and one with potato salad. I'm not usually big on potato salad, but it was honestly the best I've ever had. My husband said the coleslaw was crisp and delicious. I'd probably stop in again if I was driving through Knoxville!

    (4)
  • James L.

Not the greatest. The meat had no smoke to it and the Texas toast was a hamburger bun. The baked beans were very good and the potato salad was very unique. The sauces were actually very good and what I believed the only thing that saved them from receiving a single star. I would not recommend them.

Tasty little bbq joint located in what looks like a old roadside motel. I had the pulled chicken and collard greens and my partner had half slab of ribs and baked beans. The chicken was plentiful and tasty and the mustard based bbq sauce was a great addition. The collards were decent for a restaurant but definitely will be enjoyed. I was told the ribs had great taste and the meat was tender and easy to remove from the bone. Baked beans were great but a little on the spicy side.

  • Charles F.

After seeing so many good reviews on Yelp I had to go for dinner. I really wanted to love this place, but walked away only satisfied. Don't get me wrong...the BBQ ribs are very good. But everything else from the guys working behind the counter, the quality of the sides, and the location were all below average. The guys working behind the counter were young and average in their energy. Not amazing, only average. The sides were a real disappointment. The collard greens were not chopped up enough for my liking, and the BBQ beans had something in them that peaked my interest in trying to figure out what it was, but I still did not like it. I swear it tasted like there was peach schnapps in the beans! The location was in an old strip mall/office building. For really good food I don't care, but not for average. I do recommend the place, but take the ribs out and go to a place that has good sides to go with them. I forgot to mention that the "Holy Crap Hot Sauce" was tasty, but not spicy. Bummer

  • Brittany W.

I really like their BBQ! I had a bbq sandwich and collards greens. Best collards from a southern restaurant I've had in a long time! I'm extremely excited to come back for the food. This one is located in the Bearden area. There are bus stops around too! It is a bit smaller than I thought however so I would not bring overly large groups. The staff sat around doing nothing when I went. I don't think they cared less about if they worked there.

  • Kate H.

Delicious BBQ! We read about Archers in the newspaper and love to try to BBQ places. The pulled pork was top notch and the original sauce was the perfect blend of savory and spicy. The space in Bearden is utilitarian. The wait staff leaves something to be desired. We shared that this was our first time to Archers and rather than take the opportunity to tell us about the menu or make any suggestions, we just got blank stares and were asked if we were ready to order. We were the only customers in the place, so it wasn't as though we were holding up the line. Go for the food--you won't be disappointed.

Omg - I'm from Texas and this was some seriously amazing BBQ. Get a pulled pork sandwich with the slaw on top. You won't regret it! The loaded potato salad was to die for. All I all, a great lunch experience!

  • Hanh L.

Hubby and I ordered the pulled pork sandwich and a full rack of ribs with the side of corn, potato salad and collard greens. Collard was a little too salty for my tasting, I was not expecting the corn to be so peppery but not too bad, potato salad was delicious but after eating most of it I started to feel my arteries clogging from all the mayo in there so I stopped myself from finishing it, pulled pork was decent, ribs were ok with a little kick to it. Husband loves bbq and enjoyed the different sauces available. I guess I am not a big TN bbq fan. Staff was very friendly.

This was my first stop out of four BBQ choices in the Knoxville area (thanks to you, the Yelpers). I stayed because: * They threw in free ribs because they had just one short rack left on the night and wanted to get rid of it. * They were super friendly and welcomed me profusely when I told them I'm from NJ. * The desserts are homemade. That is so hard to find. So here is the food rundown: * Chicken plate: Good toast, not toasted enough. The pulled chicken was reasonable, not the best I've had. Probably about 3.5 stars there. The meat just lacked that smoky flavor. (I would have had the pulled pork, but I have had a lot already on this trip.) * Collard greens: Pretty good. Not quite salty/meaty enough (they should be fairly hammy IMO), but a little of the Holy Crap Hot Sauce made it all better. 4 stars. By the way, look for said hot sauce over by the tea machine. If you're a spice fiend like me, it makes their BBQ sauce selection actually have a kick to it. (If you're a normal person, the regular sauces probably have enough kick. I can't tell.) * BBQ beans: Probably the weakest part of the meal. The piece of fatback in the middle of the cup helped. 3 stars. * Ribs: The. Best. Ribs. Ever. So smoky, so tender, fall-off-the-bone delicious. The Memphis dry rub stars when it's paired with ribs, and they do it to perfection. If I come back to Knoxville, I will just order a full rack of Archers ribs and go to town. 8 stars. * Pecan pie: They have crushed pecans instead of whole ones. I prefer whole, but it's not fair to hold that against them. The pie filling oozes honey. 4.999 stars. * Brookie: It's a brownie with cookie baked into it. I haven't even eaten it yet, but it already gets 6 stars. I will take the risk of having to edit this review if it's anything less than 120% perfect. Just the ribs and the friendly service alone mandate 5 stars. I also got to sign my name on the wall (look by the fire extinguisher for a crudely drawn highway interchange). I promised them I'd recommend them to anyone staying in the area, so here's my first recommendation to all of y'all considering some Southern BBQ. Tell them the New Jerseyan says hi.

We tried this BBQ based on the reviews but came away disappointed. The pictures on the website look nothing like the food we paid for. The ribs were not smoked long enough and had a wet fatty taste with almost no sauce. The pulled pork was dry. Maybe we visited on an off day but nothing seemed to go right about this meal. Even the sauces were very runny, not one is them, all 6! The staff was nice and friendly so I have to give them credit there. Also, my buddy had a chick who came in wearing a sun dress prematurely (given the temperature) give him the eyes, she was totally into him. But this review isn't based on that.

  • Will A.

The BBQ is good, but the staff acts like they have better things to do than help you. One jerk threw a bunch of plates and scared my children because someone didn't buss their table. Then he verbally harassed a customer over the phone because they hadn't picked up their order yet. "We're in the fresh food business.." He said.. Knoxville has better BBQ and much better service.

Good food but a little pricey for BBQ.

LOVE ARCHERS!!!! The ribs are amazing and get my vote for best in town. The pulled pork six pack is a healthy meal for 6+ with meat, buns, sauce and three sides. This was perfect for our Sunday afternoon family get together. Now the sauces cover the full spectrum of flavoring that make this BBQ suitable to anyone's personal conviction. The sides are awesome! BBQ beans and greens are my favorite but today I sampled the sweet potato chips and I have a new addiction. Do yourself a favor and give this place a whirl. I did see some negative reviews but I don't get it. I have been to every location and the staff is always top notch along with consistent taste every time. Personally I believe this is the best BBQ joint in Knoxville.

  • Anthony F.

The BEST BBQ I have ever had! BBQ pork plate with baked beans, loaded potato salad and a slice of Texas toast. Throw in a drink and it's just under $13. The pulled pork was succulent and seasoned just right. A dry rub style I believe. No sauce on it- that's at the table. The BBQ beans are out of this world and the loaded potato salad compliments it all. There are 6 sauces to choose from at the table. I would suggest trying a little of all six to see which will be your favorite. I suggest the Moonshine Vinegar and the Original. Although, they ALL are good. Oh yeah- ask them what a BBQ sundae is. I didn't try it this time, but I will when I go back!!

Husband, son, and I went to Archer's on Saturday, January 18. No fried catfish. No hushpuppies. No fryer, actually. I don't think they actually cook or barbecue anything at this location, which I find weird. They have stopped making beef brisket, too. My husband was very disappointed. The pork was lukewarm and on the dry side. My son and I kept pouring on the sauce, and it just kept soaking into the meat and bread to the point that there was no flavor. The cole slaw was bland. Honestly, this was the part that depressed me the most. Their cole slaw used to be so good, and now it has no flavor at all. I added salt -- frequently the problem with bland food is that the chef forgot the salt -- but it didn't fix the blandness. This has been typical of our experiences for the last three visits to Archer's. I'm about to give up. Can't keep spending money on something that just doesn't satisfy -- and I'm a little worried about the temperature of the meat. I hope Archer's fixes its many problems. I miss good barbecue.

Place is connected to a motel. Very clean. Best part was the pulled pork. Ribs were good, had a crush with rubbed spices. Sides were OK. A bit pricey, but you are getting quality meats. 6 sauces on table were great to try all. Don't know how it ranks with other BBQs in area since we were on business trip. All 3 of us enjoyed our meals.

We were coming back from a trip to the Smokies and stopped here to eat. Wow, is this barbecue delicious. They people there were VERY friendly and helpful in picking which sides and what sauce to add, but honestly those ribs have a very good dry rub; they're great just the way they are! If you want some good ass barbecue, come here. I know if I roll around Knoxville again I'm coming here first

    (5)
  • Gina G.

The sides are very good, especially the potato salad, could have eaten a vat of it. I had the chicken and pulled pork combo and both were moist. Could have been smoked just a little more. The sauces are very good. The staff was very very helpful. Will definitely give it another try.

We had lunch here on our way to Gatlinburg, and I guess I should've looked harder for a good barbeque place. The prices weren't bad, but the corn and beans were overly sweetened, and after adding just a bit of BBQ sauce onto my pulled pork sandwich, I thought this meal was more like eating a dessert than a meal. My husband said the meat on his sandwich was plain and kind of dry. Neither of us liked the buns. The banana pudding was okay, but it, too, was overly sweet.

Archers is overpriced and the sides are skimpy. I went to the Archers on Central Av on September 25, 2014 and had the pulled pork dinner with the sweet potato chips and creamed corn. The food was good just overpriced and the sides were nothing to write home about. Skimpy portions. Because the portions were skimpy I have to rate Archers a very bad value for the money.

Oct 2012 - Not great. I've had their BBQ from the satellite location on Northshore and enjoyed it. Checked out the sit-down location tonight and was sorely disappointed. The ribs were so severely overcooked that they disintegrated when I tried to cut them so I ended up with a tiny portion of expensive pulled pork with no smoke flavor whatsoever. The atmosphere was about comparable with a McDonalds. Won't be back. EDIT: January 2013 - the owner just noticed this review, 14 MONTHS AFTER THE FACT!!! Sent me an incredibly snippy message accusing me of having bad taste and posted a nasty comment (since deleted by Yelp for violating their conflict of interest policy) on this review accusing me of being a paid negative reviewer. Clearly this person has absolutely no idea how social media works :-) Downgrading my previous 2 -star review to a 1-star.

  • Al J.

Had the chili cheese dog special ($6 for 2 or 1 dog + a side). All about a good chili dog; but the chili had no meat, just beans in a mediocre sauce... disappointing at the least. Got a small bag of chips for $1.50, much more expensive that it was worth. No prices posted for the sides or chips or drinks, which is inconvenient. Sandwich plates are about $10; dinners are almost $12 . From previous visits, the BBQ is quite good, the sides are unremarkable & on the small side for the price. Likely won't be back. A shame given how good they were when they were in Farragut.

    (2)
  • Aventura E.

Worst BBQ ever, it seemed like boiled pork and chicken with sides of BBQ sauce provided by the staff to put over the top of it to pretend it was real BBQ...AND...the potato salad smelled and tasted spolied, I only ate one bite of it and flushed it down the toilet!

Knoxville doesn't have it's own barbecue identity in the same way that Memphis, St. Louis, or the Carolinas do. It's derivative here in K-town, and as a result there's a lot of "good barbecue" in the area that's really only good in a relative way: it's better than big chain barbecue. Archer's is top notch BBQ because it seems they embrace that Knoxville isn't innovating, it's imitating. (I am looking sternly at you, Calhoun's.) Instead of trying to reinvent the wheel, they take the flattery angle. You order your protein of choice at the walk-up counter and at your table you've got sauces from our BBQ-savvy regional neighbors. I'm a huge fan of the Carolina vinegar and sauce they've got. My wife likes the Memphis. They've got a really solid house sauce too, but they don't insist upon it. You pick what you like and they do that extremely well. The side dishes here are fantastic. I like to go for their baked beans and fried okra. They've got potato salad, mac and cheese, and a few other staples to round out your meal if you prefer. Oh, they have a clown in on Sunday afternoons, but it's actually to as weird as I thought. The guy who does it works there, and he's pretty cool about it. We talked him into shooting a quick creepy shout out video for a friend of ours in Illinois who is terrified of clowns. (I think we're off his Christmas card list now...)

Excuse me, I wrote this review and I AM NOT PAID TO WRITE ANY REVIEWS GOOD OR BAD. If you have a problem with Yelp, find another forum to voice your concerns, don't slander me. I stand by my review, take it as constructive criticism, perhaps it was an off night for your establishment, after all I went after reading good reviews. I think you would be better serve to respond as a "gracious loser" along the lines of perhaps we had an off day comeback again and give us another try...Due to your unjustified comment I will not give Archers another try.

The location on Kingston Pike was cozy and clean. My boyfriend and I went on a Sunday when they had half price ribs. They start out with a dry rub and then offer 6 different sauces at your table. I loved the Memphis style and he loved the moonshine vinegar. The ribs were not tough and were easy to get off the bone. The baked potato salad is AWESOME! The corn wasn't great, but they have lots of sides to choose from. We got a full rack of ribs, potato salad, corn, a beer, and a fountain drink for $16 and it was yummy and worth it! We will definitely be going back to try some pulled pork!

  • Matt H.

Went here today for lunch, and it was fantastic. I had the special, which was a Pulled chicken sandwich, baked beans, and I also got a side of fries. Everything was really good, you could tell that they cut and seasoned the fries, they were delicious. The chicken was incredibly moist and it melted in my mouth. The chicken wasnt BBQ chicken though (meaning it didn't taste like it had been smoked) it tasted more oven roasted. Still, this was easily remedied by adding a good helping of barbecue sauce. Speaking of sauces, Archer's has six. They range from medium thickness, tomato based Kansas City style to thin vinegar based Memphis style sauces. My favorite is their Original, a Memphis style. Archer's definitely hit the spot, and I will definitely be going back. If you like barbecue, you have to check out this local favorite!

Had lunch here as I was excited to see a BBQ place that wasn't a chain. The BBQ was great. Good portion size The loaded potato salad is TO DIE FOR. A must have. Lunch prices are competitive for the area. The pecan pie was great, but overpriced at $3.50. Overall, I recommend. Would like to see BBQ Nachos added to the menu.

I can't complain about Archers. Their strength is in their sauces and their portions. Archers makes 6 sauces and everyone single one of them are amazing (a big table tent of sauces comes with your order). The portions are big as well. Pulled pork sandwich plate is great. The fries, greens and baked potato salad are all super great. The ribs are good, but the pulled pork is amazing. We also tried their smoked wings, which were fantastic but beware--they are HUGE and a "wing" is really both the flat and the drum so each wing is really 2 wings, hence an order of 3 as an option. Overall, this place rules. Every time I visit from Atlanta I'll be sure to stop by.

Delicious. Best pulled pork I have EVER tasted. My entire group loved their meals. I highly recommend. Be sure to try the potato salad...amazing!

Whle visiing UT medical center we Yelped local restaurants and Archers came up. We were NOT disappointed in the least. 3 of us tried 3 different sandwiches and they were all good. And ladies...the bathroom was clean. Finally, the banana pudding is a sharable size...but get your own! It is that good!

Very good pulled pork BBQ. That's all I've tried there is the pulled pork because it was so good, I keep getting the same thing. It's a good place to get carryout sandwiches to take home too.

I'm a Memphis native who moved to Knoxville almost 8 years ago and I all but gave up eating BBQ. I've been to numerous places in town and haven't found one that I liked... Until today. Archer's just feels good and the food tastes good. It's hard to explain, but I felt like I was home in Memphis. The staff is friendly and the service is quick. I have to admit, I ate there for lunch and dinner today. The ribs, pulled pork and chicken are great and the sides and fresh bread are all really tasty. The best part... It's 10 minutes from home. Try it for yourself.

Stopped by after work for a to-go order of the worlds best wings, crispy hush puppies and pulled pork. I think this is the best BBQ in Knoxville. If you live anywhere in west Knoxville you should visit here for your Q fix. They're on Kingston Pike in Farragut near Concord rd. Stop in and take home a bunch of BBQ. Your family will love it.

We have eaten here many times. The food is consitently good. Really like the sauce choices. Portion sizes are large. Service is always good and friendly. My son loves the wings.

Tried Archer's for the first time with out of town family. It turned out to be a little diamond in the shopping center. It's an order at the counter and a self serve drink station. The server only brings out your ordered food, and you are left to do the rest. Very casual. The dining room is fairly large and can seat many people and/or large parties easily. There are plenty of different sauces to choose from to satisfy anyone's taste. The BBQ was smoked very well, and the catfish was perfect! The amount of food was just right for the $$.

Archer's could be the joint that puts Knoxville on the BBQ Map. While you can find good Que in town, no one place does all the meats well...Archer's has changed that - Excellent Memphis style ribs (baby backs), competition quality beef brisket, and above average pulled pork. The sides are also fantastic. One caution - it is a little pricey - but for my KCBS Certified BBQ Judge taste buds - well worth the money.
