The second leg of our recent Tennessee trip also involved construction, and as such we felt quite at home - it seems that we almost always see the little signs telling us to avoid a particular lane. Someone was smiling here, however, as the construction started just after we had to turn off to get to the inn - so we only had to see the signs warning of the construction, not actually do anything because of it. If you are looking for a place that is convenient, be warned that this is probably not it. No easy on, easy off here - you are going to have to exit the freeway and then drive for a while. It is a fairly nice, scenic drive, but it is a bit of a hike. Well worth it, however, as you end up either in the middle of nowhere or right next to it, perched on the side of a lake (river, something). The property actually contains several buildings, each of which then contain multiple rooms. Your package may contain dinner (probably a good idea since there is not much in the way of food offerings nearby), and you also get breakfast, though it is not a traditional bed-and-breakfast - way more than someone's house here, though you most certainly receive the attention as if it is a smaller place with just one or two guests.

This is one of the most charming country B&Bs I've ever seen. A little country inn it is NOT. It is a sprawling property in the most idyllic scenery on the shores of the Tennessee River, and has ten or so meticulously maintained cottages, houses and even land for sale. It has the honor of being one of America's Inns of Distinction, and solidly deserves that reputation. Everything here was in order and absolutely impeccable. The Whitestone is owned by very religious (Christian) people and it makes no bones about its orientation. Nevertheless, is a most welcoming place for all people of all walks of life. Entering the several thousand-acre property, one goes through a carriage house and then up a hill to an old schoolhouse for check-in. There are golf carts, things to do for the kids, things to do for adults, and the meals are absolutely wonderfully prepared, down country cooking with a classy touch. An amazing place. Steps away from Knoxville, the Smokies, not far from Nashville and Chattanooga The perfect place to relax

Pleasant reservation process and initial discussion with hotel staff. Stayed in the Chickadee Suite. Had EXCELLENT dinner and EXCELLENT breakfast w/ the most insanely good blackberry turnovers. Food is out of sight. Would go back for that alone (and many people apparently do). Recipes for many dishes are on-line. Wonderfully congenial host, who made our 11-year old nephew feel comfortable. Good activities, although we only had time to hit some golf balls into the small pond. (It's OK - you're supposed to do that. Not an environmental issue.) Probably a great place for 3-4 days of down time. We stayed in the Chickadee Suite, which is pleasant enough, but is completely carpeted. Due to allergies, we need a wood floor room. We'll inquire about that next time. Note that there is nothing wrong with the Chickadee Suite - it's just that we are unusually susceptible to dust and the like.

Just spent a very peaceful night at Whitestone Inn Bed and Breakfast. It's a little of the beaten path, about 10 minutes off the interstate but it is well worth the drive! It's in a bird sanctuary on Watts Bar Lake. It is soooooo peaceful. A full breakfast is included in the stay. There are walking trails, the lake, bird watching and lots of different activities but my favorite thing to do there is read a good book in peace! The rooms are beautiful and big! The grounds are beautiful and the staff very friendly. It is definitely my choice for some time alone and to celebrate special occasions. My husband has taken me there for our anniversary and for my birthdays! I just love it! My favorite dessert is served there - Whitestone Delight! Yum! We also went down with a group for a Christmas Banquet! The place was lit up everywhere! Gorgeous! And they have carolers and violinists playing and special programs that time of year, too!

The view and the decorations as well as the atmosphere is what I consider top of the line. The meal was described as a "dining experience" as compared to just eating out. The food is above average and the desserts are out of this world. Too expensive for me to do it on a regular basis, but a nice treat for special occasions.

This really is a hidden gem and the BEST Kingston has to offer. My husband and I visited the inn in early October. It was very peacefuI with beautiful scenery and lots of country charm. The rooms are cozy and yet rather large. The downstairs den is stocked with board games and a pool table. I can't say enough good things about the staff either, esp. Gabe, who was very attentive and polite. They often left out fresh cookies and treats for us to sneak throughout the day. Our room was the hummingbird room below the dining room. It did get a little noisy from the people walking above, but nothing too bad. The view and large bathroom made up for it though. Also, breakfast is wonderful, but the dinner menu is a little lacking. It could use more seasoning and less time in the oven. And be aware that there are no libations served here, but they don't frown upon guests bringing their own :) Another good thing about Whitestone is that the owner is always wandering the halls, stopping to talk to guests. Each time we saw him he always had a joke or a story to tell us. It's a very warm atmospere. We had a great stay and would love to come back.
