Not bad for the price. My party of 3 ate for a little over 30 bucks. A pretty good price for an all-you-can-eat buffet. It wasn't the greatest Chinese food I've eaten, but it definitely wasn't the worst. What I did eat was tasty enough for my standards. The buffet had a wide variety of Chinese dishes. Something for everyone. The dessert bar also had much to choose from. Also, the establishment was very clean. That's very, very important to me. Tells you a lot about what's going on in the kitchen. In my experience, tidy eating areas mean sanitary cooking conditions in the kitchen.

I've been all over the country, to more Chinese Restaurants than I care to count, but whenever I'm visiting my relatives here in Kingsport, Ming Garden is one of the first places I go! They have an extensive buffet, for around $11.00 you can get all you can eat, plus the Mongolian Grill, which you can choose your own stir fry. They also have American menu choices too, for the little ones. The Ming is awesome, I've been going here ever since it opened in '96. It is so clean and the staff, especially the owner are very nice. The atmosphere is beautiful, and they have anything you could ever want in a Chinese buffet, made fresh.

I've been for the lunch buffet two times, both for work related reasons - I would never go here for personal reasons. Half the food on the buffet is American-American, not American-Chinese, the food they do have that's American-Chinese is tough and poorly flavored. I say this not only from years of eating American-Chinese but making my own at home. To put the flavor of the food in context, I've had 'Chinese' from grocery stores and Walmart that tastes better. The cost is cheap though...and it is all you can eat, I just never want to eat much. To be fair, I've never used their Mongolian grill (I lived is Central Russia just a few hours from Mongolia for a few years and had actual Mongolian grill before so...yeah) and friends have told me that it's good - but still, I would never come here again unless I had to.

Ming Garden is great Chinese food! All you can eat buffet. Several Chinese and American items on the bar to choose from plus the Mongolian Grill where you can prepare your uncooked food then watch the chef cook it for you! They also have a salad and desert bar with soft serve ice cream. Dinner is more expensive than lunch. Lunch buffet with a water to drink is around $8 after tax before tip.

Friendly servers/hostess but mediocre food. Very bland dishes which taste very similar. Pseudo Chinese food.

I lived in San Francisco for 5 years, so I have been exposed to outstanding Asian cuisine, and Ming Garden was one of the most horrible Asian meals I've ever had. Even the white rice was undercooked.

I may be spoiled by the large multitude of buffets where I call home. Maybe the taste buds are different here. This was the worst place I have ever been. The food looks and tastes like they didn't even care. The hot and sour soup was more brown water than anything. The fried items tasted like they were cooked in year old oil drained and then soaked in it to get a uniform brown color. I will not return while staying in Kingsport.

REALLY nice folks. My wife rolled in at closing time (we were starting and had been driving all day) and got us some food. If you are in town and crave Chinese, here ya go. Just know, it is Tennessee...which is not known for having the world's best Chinese food...so don't roll in expecting that.

It's alright. The buffet food wasn't very flavorful. I realize that many folks prefer that around here, but I like some spice, variety, and zing with ethnic foods. The Hibachi\Mongolian grill looks like the way to go here. I'll try it again sometime because it really has a pretty good reputation.

The spicy chicken was extremely sweet, and not spicy at all. I could only eat about 3 pieces before giving up. The quality of the pork in the fried rice was very low. Also, barely edible. Several pieces were pure fat. I would not recommend this place for take out. I did not try the buffet, but the usual rule of thumb is that Chinese cuisine is best fresh. The food is not slow cooked so unless the restaurant enjoys a high turnover rate, Chinese buffets are typically not very good since the food sits out. The Chinese buffet's appeal is for its value and variety, not for any single dish. The major problem, I would guess, is that this restaurant has very little competition, thus very few incentives to improve their food. This shows.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
