First of all, I've been coming to Jackson for projects for 5 years or more and why did I just find out about this place this week? Believe me, I ask customers all the time for recommendations and never once...really? Second of all, my dismay at the above is not because Baudo's is the best Italian restaurant in the US of A that I've ever visited. (Angelina's in Green Bay, Wisconsin...no kidding...I dare you to argue.) But it's because it is SO hard to not have to go to a chain in Jackson...really , really hard! The fact that this is a nice, quiet, family owned place...and that family obviously has a lot of pride in their work makes it a better choice than ANY of the chains in town. Now...my husband was working kind of close to Jackson this week too so I got to have a mid-week date in Jackson. WOOHOO! (So weird, since we were both on expenses, we had separate checks. It felt kinda sleazy and I more than kind of liked it.) We hit up Baudo's last night after a quick check on Yelp for Italian fare. The place was quiet, but it was a Tuesday AND it was almost 8:00 (late around these parts). They served us a nice loaf of homemade bread and hubby devoured half of that and said it was good. Curses to all the carbs...I didn't get any. Add to that your basic salad with homemade dressing to make it better. My husband had home made lasagne...very home made and he devoured that too. I had the salmon with creamed spinach. It was acceptable, I ate almost all of it...but it wasn't anything special. Can't speak to their wine selection because mama needed a Gin/Tonic last night and hubby had a beer. The service was polite and efficient. The owner chatted us up a bit. All and all one of the better dinner experiences in Jackson. I'd also be fine with taking a customer here. It's a nice place. For some reason it has $$$ on Yelp. It's by no means a $$$. My salmon dinner was $18 and the homemade lasagne was less than that.
I was excited to find this locally owned gem while stopping over in Jackson,TN. Don't let the outside fool you, the service was fantastic and the veal was near the best I've ever had, so tender! Now the pumpkin cheesecake, that was by far and away the very best I have ever had! While I do not consider myself a foodie, I do appreciate good food. This was good food at a fair price with friendly service. Great combo - especially while in the road!!

I had never been to Baudo's as I heard it was one of the "finer" dining establishments in Jackson, and I abhor pretentiousness, but I had received a gift card for them, and decided I should at least use the gift card. I want to state that I went there with a fully open mind. I also like to, when I can, support local, small business owners. I decided to go on a Saturday night, having reviewed the menu online, and seeing that they served Prime Rib on Friday and Saturday nights. I arrived at approximately 6:45, without a reservation, so I knew there would be a wait, so I was prepared for that. I initially found the "hostess", a short older lady, a bit cool in her demeanor, not ugly or nasty, just not real friendly. Once seated my waitress introduced herself and asked me if I would like something to drink, and I asked for a minute so that I could review their wine menu, as well as the rest of the menu. She asked if I would like some water in the meantime and I said that would be fine. When she returned I ordered a glass of wine, the Bruschetta Platter, and the 10 oz Prime Rib. I ordered the Prime Rib rare, a baked potato with butter/sour cream, and with the salad, I ordered Bleu Cheese on the side. The waitress then brought me my wine, a small loaf of bread, and a small bottle of olive oil for the bread. The loaf of bread had a knife stuck through the center of it, and when I went to open the container of olive oil, it was covered in oil, and I had to use my napkin to wipe my hands off. The waitress happened to be walking by and asked my if I needed napkins, and I said yes please. I never saw any additional napkins, and no butter was offered with the bread. The bread, a small baguette styled loaf, was decent, though I am sure this was not made in house (not that I expect everything in a restaurant to be homemade, this is just and observation.) I was then brought my salad, which was swimming in Bleu Cheese. The salad itself appeared, and tasted as if it was not freshly prepared, outside of the two grape tomatoes that were in the salad. It was not fresh and crisp, and the appearance (through the dressing) appeared to be of the type of your basic, inexpensive bagged salad mix found at the local grocery store. When I attempted to use the salt and pepper shakers, I found the pepper shaker (no mill was available or offered - even Olive Garden, I believe, offers freshly ground pepper) to be a lesson in futility. The grind of the pepper was, overall, to big for the holes in the shaker, so I removed the top, poured some into my palm, and seasoning my salad that way. The flatware also deserves a comment in the sense that it was very lightweight. It was very similar in style and weight to the inexpensive pieces that we have in the kitchen in our office. It was of the style that you find in Sams Club, where you get a package of 20-25 forks, knives or spoons. The Prime Rib and baked potato were served on an oblong/oval plate and there was a wilted piece of parsley, under a tepid piece of Prime Rib, and with the potato. The Prime Rib was decent, but as stated, it was tepid/barely warm. The potato was ok, but I am not sure if it was the butter or the sour cream had a slight off taste, not a taste of being sour/bad, perhaps it was not real butter, or maybe a blend that I was picking up on (Daisy is the only brand that has a taste/texture I can eat). I guess the most surprising part of my meal came while I was in the middle of eating, when my waitress came to me with the tab and asked me if I could take care of it now, since she had to go next door and work at the comedy club. I thought, well this is interesting, but I said sure. She came back a few minutes later, advising me of how much remained on my gift card, and that another waitress would look after me. I said Thank You, and continued my meal. During this time, this same waitress walked past my table several times, without any comment, nor did any other waiter/waitress come by. I finished my dinner and waited, figuring someone would come by and and ask me if I was done, and if, perhaps I would like dessert. This never happened. I waited, and waited. I finally got up and left the restaurant. On my way out, when passing the small, hidden desk, the hostess (see above) did not even bother to say thank you, come again, or enjoy your evening. There is a balance of approximately $20 on the gift card, which I guess they can keep, as I have no desire to return to this establishment. I am not one for chain restaurants, and I rarely eat out, preferring to cook for myself at home, but I will definitely not return to Baudo's.

Prime rib was tough and no flavor. They acted surprised which made it worse. They knew.

We had a lovely experience here and the food, service, atmosphere and wine were all great! The prices are very reasonable and the servings are generous. I had not been here in years and saw a Groupon so I bought it and I am really glad I did, I will definitely be back my mushroom pasta was delicious!

Stopped by for dinner last night and should have taken the hint when we walked in the door it was going to be unpleasant. We actually waited 10minutes for someone to acknowledge that we came in, despite the relative calm and the presence of both a manager and a hostess. They were both involved in a conversation and while it was obvious they saw us come in, they made no attempt to acknowledge us. After getting a table, the fun continued while we waited increasingly lengthy intervals for service.. or something that fits that description only very loosely. An hour into the ordeal we finally received our cold entrees. Had they been served at anything other than room temperature, I have no fought they would have been ok. Our waitress ordered to reheat them (not have them remade) and we were frustrated, so we decided to simply ask for the bill for our drinks and call it a night. A manager came over & spoke to us, but offered no apologies then said she would return shortly with the bill. Fifteen minutes later, she's still avoiding us. This was the worst service I have received in a very long time. Very disappointed.

One of my favorite places to eat back in college days. Either my palate has matured or the quality has gone downhill in recent years. Average to below average food at inflated prices.

We won't be returning here again. Service was terrible and the food was mediocre. Understandably, they had a large birthday party in their back room but it was our server that got our order wrong. When it was corrected, the steak was full of gristle. The salads were literally drowning in dressing. I asked for the best pasta on the menu and when it came it was dry and flavorless. We had to ask for water multiple times. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1, the french fries are outstanding, might be the best thing on the menu. However, a chain Italian restaurant would have been a better choice.

What a horrible excuse for Italian food. I ordered the pasta primavera and every vegetable that very clearly came from a frozen mix veggie back where raw the sauce was runny and don't think for a second the pasta is made to order, that stuff was almost mush. Service was nice and deserved the tip but I regret stoping by.

Very homemade and delicious. We were on our way to Nashville and dropped in for lunch. I had minestrone soup - tasted like an Italian version of pot roast turned into soup - loved it! I followed with a small portion of eggplant which was more than this 250 pound guy could eat. Great flavor, crispy fresh eggplant covered with marinara and melted mozzarella. I might ask for my sauce on the side next time - want to enjoy more of the crispy crust. Service was excellent, music was relaxing and atmosphere was well let's say, mid-south Italian. We will certainly will be back. This is a hidden gem worth seeking out. Just off the interstate - easy to get to.

Super excessively overdressed "Cesar" salad and they charged me $3 for bar tap seltzer. Veal parm was OK, eggplant parm no bueno. I suspect they are having some staffing issues.

I bought a groupon because I was taking my nieces and daughter to the safari park in the area. I was disappointed that I went on a Sunday afternoon and all the foods I wanted to try from looking at the website was only served after 5pm. But what I could order was good, just not what I wanted. The desserts are homemade and great! Maybe I can get back sometime for dinner. It should specify online that certain foods are only served at specific times. I was disappointed I couldn't order what I wanted. They also kept it extremely cold and had a fan directly on us that I asked to be turned off.

Authentic Italian for over 40 years! We were in Jackson TN for the wine festival and this place was highly recommended by one of the winery owners. A bunch of us from the wineries decided to join him here for dinner. The service was fantastic. They were very accommodating to our large party that kept growing so we had to keep adding tables. I loved the way the restaurant was decorated. There was definitely an Italian wine feel. We started with a combo platter that included ravioli. There were many tempting entree choices on the menu but I decided on the vermicelli con polo. It was a combination of all of my favorites. Thin spaghetti tossed with chicken, peas, mushrooms, and bacon covered in herbed butter. It was so fantastic that it will be very difficult to order anything else on my next visit.

I would've given it five stars, but the service was a bit slow and not as attentive as I'd like. We've lived in Charlotte, Chicago and now Atlanta. I've not had ravioli better than the mushroom ravioli I had tonight. Good job in the kitchen, now update the dining room.

Absolutely hidden gem. Family-owned, authentic Italian restaurant. Family re-located from Chicago and started this place 45 years ago. I am from Chicago so I knew this place would be stellar. I literally could drink the homemade pasta sauce. I ordered the small chicken Parmesan and it was plenty (unless you want to over eat). Do yourself a favor and get the house Italian sauce on your salad. Pretty extensive wine list as well. For those who left a poor review.....really????

This place upholds the Jackson standard of mediocrity. They brag about making their own salad dressings, but they serve it on wilted, bagged salad, with carrots that are way past their expiration date. And I've had it served to me in this condition more than twice. This restaurant is a Jackson institution, so the quality of the food is oftentimes overlooked for the sake of keeping the doors open.

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

The service was great but the quality of the food we ordered was not great. My husband & I both ordered the filet special. The cut of meat we were served was NOT a filet. Then there was some type of gravy with a gel consistency on top of it. My husband ordered the sautéed sweet potatoes and couldn't eat them because they were hard. My Italian spinach came out of a can. We also both got the house salad and added bacon which definitely came out of a bag and were horribly salty. What we got was definitely just classified as eatable. We think maybe they may have good pasta but we do not recommend the steak.
