Even this late, everything is still fresh & they're willing to bring out anything that's not there. Love their "build your own" hibachi grill- how perfect (especially for those particular eaters) Friendly staff & best buffet that I have ever been to. *side note: I've never had their sushi but they have a good selection

I go to Koi about once a month, have been doing that for the last couple of years. I have always enjoyed the food. I like the salad bar and especially like all the choice of sushi they have. I know it is freshly made as I watch them put it out. The other selections are diverse and good, I like their soups and different types of rice and noodles. Their chicken is not overcooked or dry like some buffets I have gone to. I have used the hibachi grill several times and enjoy that also. One of the best buffets in middle Tennessee as far as I am concerned.

decided to give this place a try tonight and I was pleasantly surprised by there sushi selection. so I decided to try a little bit of everything that they had to offer, overall I really enjoyed the sushi bar and I liked the fact that they served oysters as well. Overall I enjoyed this place so I would recommended this place to family and friends.

The first time I went here, I thought, Ok, not too bad. Yesterday I went back for dinner, and it will be my last. The quality of the food has gone to "CRAP". When I asked for the crab that was advertised on the sign (see photos), I was told they were not included in the buffet and were sold extra, by the pound. I left saying I will never go back and scammed about not getting what the sign said. Bad, Yuk, Bad.

Good food sometimes depending upon the cook. We like the Hibachi and it is decent unless you get the cook that has the attitude. Buffet & a drink will set you back $10. to $13. after tax. lot of bucks to pay for lunch especially when you eat out everyday and you only have an hour.

Not much to say, can take it or leave it. Nothing jumped out to make us return. Food seemed bland, definitely not worth what we were charged for 3 adult dinners. Could have just been an off night, it was Tuesday.

Solid place to go to eat anything you want. You definitely can feel like you ate more than your $8 worth here. There are so many options it's insane. I'll definitely be back.

The Asian buffet taste better and had more variation of items than any I had been to in recent memory. There is also a hibachi grill that is very good. The sushi bar is the best I have seen in the Nashville area. The only drawback the I have is that each time I have visited during lunch, it has been extremely busy with lines. That only attests to how well liked this restaurant is by the public.

This is a regular spot for me and my family. The food is good, the service is ok no much to say about it. The hibachi grill I will say it is ok. But I do enjoy the food. They have different options.

I have been to this buffet for lunch and dinner and both times were pleasant. THis place has a surprisingly large selection of sushi that tastes good. The lunch crowd is smaller. The food was still good. The dinner crowd is big but they have a hibachi spot and they cook the meal you create. The price is more than fair for what you get. I will be returning here.

I use to frequent this place at least 4 times per month and was very happy. Not anymore! My understanding is that it now under new ownership. The sushi often is not at the proper temperature, and the front - right - room smells of sewage. I have taken this off my list of restaurants to frequent.

It was ok. The hibachi/sushi place we have in Dothan AL is much better, more choices. I did not get hibachi, just buffet. The desserts ( cream puff, eclair ) were soggy, stale tasting, the dessert in a mini pie cup - idk what it was, but it had coconut flavor and was good. Place had a decent cold foods/salad bar section with seaweed salad - which was tasty. Didn't care for some of the hot foods which were over-breaded and overcooked. To end on an up-note, they had a good variety of sushi rolls, and the volcano, special cali, and tuna rolls were delish!

My new favorite restaurant! I've been on a big sushi kick lately, though I'm no expert. The variety and quality of the sushi here was fantastic compared with other buffets. The sushi bar was huge, with the chef constantly putting out new varieties. There also were some unusual dishes -- I got up the courage to try octopus, seaweed, and frog's legs, and I'm really glad I did. There were other buffet lines with food like you'd find at Chinese buffets, but it generally was fresher and tastier than the places I usually go. I wish I wasn't too stuffed to try the hibachi bar -- the selections looked great. Service was great. Dinner for two, one soda, tax, and tip totaled $32, which I consider a good deal.

  • Derrick W.

Different food in the buffet to choose from! Sushi, Seaweed salad, octopi and even chinese food! Love the food and great service. Will come back again!

My friends and I are fans of hibachi and sushi and this has one of the best at any price. It is not the best sushi you can get in middle TN (I think that's at Wild Wasabi), but it's very close, and by far the best for the price point. The sushi is fresh and good, and there's a great variety. The hibachi grill is fabulous-as long as the Honduran is cooking. There is also an extensive typical Chinese buffet with all the options you would expect. Lunch buffet and water for $9. Decent service-they skimp on the ice for some reason, but they're generally attentive. The restaurant is huge, so you never feel crowded. I love Wild Wasabi downtown, but they're so popular there you often have to fight for a table and then sit elbow to elbow with people, and wait in a long time. Nothing like that here. It's wide open. It's generally clean, usually a comfortable temperature, bathrooms are...well, let's face it, you're here to overeat sushi and Chinese food. Go for it. P.S. Be sure to check out the enormous Koi fish in the pool.

There's a whole lot of apathy in this place. Im convinced the dinner (at 6:30) was leftover from lunch, or shortly after- not worth $13.00, by any means. One would think fried rice at a Chinese place would be good; no sir, no ma'am.. Dry, crunchy and flavorless. Most hot dishes were nearly empty and dry (at 6:30!) I watched a worker scrape the obviously old coconut shrimp straight on top of a fresh batch.. That has to be a health code violation. Employees walk around like zombies. That's it for me.

Mediocre at best! We are traveling and I picked the place based on it's yelp rating. First time yelp has led me astray. The food on the buffet all looks the same and in most cases I couldn't visibly tell the difference between beef and chicken. The sushi is bad, not in a "I am comparing this to an actual Japanese sushi restaurant" kind of way but in an "oh my this is really terrible Chinese restaurant sushi" kind of way. About the only thing this place had going for it was the hibachi and the price.

  • Adam B.

I was out and about for work and needed a quick bite. This is one of those "sushi buffets" that is really just a glorified chinese buffet with some hastily made sushi of mediocre quality. It wasn't anything special but it served it's purpose.

  • David B.

Asian buffet at its worst. The atmosphere is nothing to what a restaurant should uphold to. They put us in one of the side rooms with carpet, which smelled beyond horrible. The food wasn't the best, the service was okay, and the environment didn't seem to be clean at all. Never coming back - even if you paid me to!

    (1)
  • Chad R.

I love this place. Lots of sushi and hot food to choose from. The lunch buffet is the best value anywhere in Nashville & dinner prices are completely reasonable. It's good for large or small groups, families and professionals. There's even pizza if your kids are awful and hate good food.

    (5)
  • Dale p.

The sushi here is great and everything else it's pretty good too. Avoid the cold seafood mix with octopus.. It's very very fishy. Overall great service and great food... so long as you keep in mind it's an Asian buffet, not Jiro's Sushi.

  • Hakan D.

The restaurant looks old inside and out. They serve buffet for lunch and dinner everyday. The buffet selection has small amount of salad items, Chinese food, sushi, and grill. Chinese food is average. They have the usual beef and chicken selections, spring rolls, etc. Sushi bar is average. I go there for the sushi bar. I don't think the fish is fresh. At the grill they don't have many options as the sauce for mangolian bbq. Only teriyaki and some other sauce. It is an average buffet if you are really craving for sushi or basic Chinese food, but I don't consider it as good food. The price is reasonable.

  • Nai W.

All this and more for only $8? They even have a hibachi. Amazing selection and great quality!!!

    (5)
  • Honey S.

All you can eat sushi plus great hibachi and a variety of other foods to choose from if you still have room. Best to go around 4:30 fresh sushi for dinner time

Everyone who works here was very polite! The food was great! There is a huge selection of food! I highly recommend anyone to come here if you like Chinese buffets!

Have eaten here many times and sometimes really good but usually just mediocre. The hibachi grill part is nice and really like the snow peas. Service is usually good and price is reasonable.

I went last night on a Saturday night around eight pm.Where do I start, the food was horrible there was no oysters on the bar only empty trey asked waitress, she told me they will put some out, went to get some and they were frozen to the shells, after trying to break one loose it was black inside.Did not eat was scared I would get sick.Went up to the other bar to try my luck and the same horrible experience. NO SALMON JUST EMPTY TREY.The waitress was good. The best thing I had was the Dr.Pepper I drank.I will never be back .

  • Marie C.

I have never seen so many flies at a restaurant. The price was decent, but really it's gross to go get your food. See flies immediately fly away from the food. Yeah sorry that isn't something I want. Food wasn't very good. Will not go again.

For a lunch buffet its about as good as it gets in Nashville with the one exception of the Golden Coast on West End (Saturday and Sunday only). They have large variety of food and I appreciate the cold items like the seaweed salad and Kim chee. The sushi is not Sushi Bar Quality, but I would place it better than the grocery stores and the grocery stores charge what KOI does for lunch for one box of sushi. So, the value is a lot better.

Hmmm...I've driven by this place quite a bit. The parking lot is always full: is it good? Is it cheap? Is it all you can eat? (I've never been too keen on buffets.) Well, I finally succumbed to my curiosity about this place and decided to check it out on Saturday for lunch. The answers are all "yes!' I was surprised upon entering: the buffets are well-lit and spacious to permit a comfortable flow of hungry customers as well as service access. The dining area lighting, though, is nicely subdued and pleasant, with reasonable space between tables. And, there were plenty of tables available, so I was seated right away. They have quite the selection of sushi - truly, so much variety that I didn't find anything that I wanted to try that was missing. It's all there. Fresh and good flavors, too. (Fresh ginger, too, but the wasabi was a tad dry.) The Chinese buffet had equal variety and the selections I had were hot and fresh, with good flavor and seasoning. I especially liked the lobster and crab, along with the varieties of chicken. The dessert offering was more limited by comparison. I found the brownie and the tiramisu to be dry and lacking flavor. All things considered, though, I found the food to be reasonably good and several levels above the typical buffet offerings I recall from many years ago. Service was good - non-intrusive and not rushed, but attentive. Just the way I like it. In and out for $8 a head! Very good place! I'll go back.

We have eaten here a few times, it can be hit or miss. The sushi is ok, but this IS A BUFFET. So don't come here expecting more than that. Go when it's busy and the food is fresh. The hibachi is tasty and you pick out your own combo. It's kid friendly and you can get fresh oysters on a half shell among other seafood. The staff is really nice and attentive. It's obvious that it's a Chinese owned place, but that's ok! it's yummy.

Plentiful Asian cuisine, including sushi, in a buffet. If you can't find something to like, you don't like food (there was pizza on the buffet). Definitely not the place for a nice romantic dinner, but OK for a quick, reasonably priced, and generally satisfying meal.

The first time I ever went to Koi was in 2010, and for the first two years I craved this place constantly..the service was wonderful, the food was delicious, including the crab legs and sushi, and the place was clean. Those are the days I miss. Everytime I've been this past year (which has only been twice due to reasons I'm about to explain,) my experience has been the exact opposite. The staff do not seem to care anymore. Service is more than unsatisfactory, and they seem to favor tables of people drinking alcohol knowing they'll get more money from them I assume. The place is absolutely filthy.. the buffet was not once wiped down, the floors flooded with trash, even loads of dead bugs in the lighting fixtures in the ceiling. They clearly can't even change the syrup in their soda machines anymore as well, because everytime I got a sprite it tasted like tonic water.. Additionally, last time I went, for no reason at all there were no crab legs, and it was at about 6:30 on a Tuesday night. Couldnt snag a server for long enough to ask why. They weren't restocking their trays to meet the demand of how many people were in there (which wasn't that many whatsoever compared to how busy I've seen them.) I even had my boyfriend ask for our check early estimating it would take about 5-10 min to get to us.. took about 20 minutes actually. I believe I'm done with koi, its just sad to think about how good they used to be compared with what they are now.

I was both surprised and impressed by the size of this place. Koi looks pretty classy inside, too. However, it was the food that really drew me in. As advertised, the buffet includes a Mongolian grill, a sushi buffet, and of course your traditional Chinese food. The options are plentiful and the food is good! The meat and vegetables seemed fresh at the Mongolian Grill station and the chef actually seemed to know what he was doing. Then there was the sushi. My husband ate 3 plates full of rolls alone. Gluttonous, I know, but evidence that the sushi was quite satisfying! We went on a Saturday, and was shocked that the buffet was under $8 a person! That's usually what it costs for 1 sushi roll! Usually restaurants charge dinner prices on the weekend. If that's the case with Koi, then I need to come back for a weekday lunch!

No alcohol, empty buffet servers, mediocre food and mediocre service. Don't know where some of these reviewers usually eat to think this was good. Not even good Chinese buffet interior.

This is a really good Asian buffet, with a good selection of sushi, Chinese, and a stir fry/hibachi station. We have had dinner here several times and always like the variety.

  • Josh R.

Excellent food here. I'm definitely not a sushi aficionado or anything; but out of the places I've been, Koi has the best sushi and best selection. They have a pretty expansive selection overall as well, not just the sushi. However, the traditional Chinese selections seem the most limited, so if you're wanting a Chinese buffet specifically you should probably look elsewhere. I give the actual food (both quality and variety) a five star rating. The restaurant itself is also impressive, as it's very well decorated inside and it's surprisingly large. However, I did have one complaint, and that was the waitress. She was fine at first, but after we both had our second plate, she gave us the ticket in a rather pushy manner. Then, less than 2 minutes after she put the ticket on the table, she interrupted our conversation, held the ticket up in my face and asked if I wanted to pay now. It was very, very rude and obnoxious. We still each went back for a dessert plate (third plate total). Also I should probably mention this was at 8:00 pm and they close at 9:30, so she was not trying to hurry us out due to closing time. Hopefully that experience with the waitress was a one-time thing and not standard at Koi, since this is my first and only visit so far. If I have better servers in the future I will probably come back and change the rating to five stars.

If you are looking to be fed. You are at the right place. But in terms of palatable ethnic experience you are alone there. The sushi lacked variety of simple ingredients. It's stuffed with cucumber, cream cheese, and choice of seafood topped with mayo or some kind of sauce. (Some of them come in deep fried version too) I, by no means, claim a traditionalist on Sushi. I love fusion sushi as well the traditional kind. But only when it is done right. Their sushi is decent like grocery store decent. As for the rest of the plates, most of them are fried(other than the shell fish and crab feet). The deserts are generic and most of the fruits are from the can. The few positive thing I can say is the shrimp is fresh and the sushi rice is tender. In conclusion, I walked out the place feeling very full, but unsatisfied.

  • Eliza R.

I think Koi boasts some of the best Asian food in the Nashville area (is it really authentically Japanese? Seems more like Chinese-American food to me). There was a huge selection offered at the buffet and everything was fresh and hot, with some amazing flavors. My favorite dish was the sweet & sour chicken - it had the most perfect breading and the sauce was just right! The sushi wasn't quite as good, since the rice was a little stale and some of the rolls were less than fresh. I has some pieces of shrimp and salmon nigiri, though, that were surprisingly scrumptious. I would definitely come back here to load up on some nigiri for cheap!

  • Peter A.

The place sure is big. We came in with a group of 12, and were able to take that back room to ourselves, which was nice. Basically they have one row of mostly chinese-type dishes, and then another row of pretty much just sushi, and then a few other random things thrown in there. So good selection, nothing stands, out, but of course it is a buffet so expectations weren't too high. Paying the bill was somewhat confusing - they took half our groups cards and went to ring them up, but apparently we were expected to go up and retrieve them and sign up front. Good for what it is.

Another recent visit to Koi was amazing...I had a fantastic time and the food was still so good! My boyfriend and I arranged to host a dinner at Koi after the most recent Nashville Anime Day, and nearly 30 people showed up at the dinner. The staff was so nice and patient, even after we had to tell them of the number change (originally over 40 had RSVPed). Everyone had a fun time and enjoyed the food. I will definitely keep continuing to visit this place and have more of their delicious buffet! :D

I discovered Koi when I first moved out to the Hermitage/Donelson area. I was craving Chinese/Japanese food and went in expecting it to be just another buffet...but it turned out to be anything but! At that time it had only been open for about a month and they are still going strong. This place is always busy and they always have fresh food on the buffet. Pros: Friendly staff, tons of seating (never had to wait even on a busy Saturday night), huge food selection including a large sushi bar, large "regular" Chinese/Japanese food buffet, hibachi grill included with buffet (you build your plate and a hibachi chef whips up your dish), lobster/crab legs, small salad bar, and a nice dessert/fruit bar complete with ice cream the real stuff, not soft serve!) Cons: You will get so full here that your body will go into a food coma upon leaving! *I heard the Chef Wang's in Murfreesboro was THE buffet to hit in Middle Tennessee...well guess what? Koi rocked Chef Wang's across the board! Koi - 1, Chef Wang's - 0

Compared with other Asian buffets, this one does not suck at all. It has a wider variety of food to choose from (including seafood) and very friendly staff. However, it suffers from some common issues of Asian buffets: below-the-standard hygiene and environment.

    (3)
  • Hannah M.

This place is really nothing special. It's exactly what ud expect from any standard Asian buffet, another words mediocre. The sushi is meh. The entrees are a little below "meh". To get crab legs with ur meal it's an extra $4, absolutely not worth it unless ur a fan of completely tasteless crab. The crab substitute stuff that's in their other dishes is more flavorful than the legs. The sushi and other entrees aren't awful but don't have high expectations.

I went again with my girl on Saturday. She is a picky "foodie" and it still held the standard. This time we tried the Hibachi grill too--which was excellent. The ingredients were so fresh and the chef whisked it up for us in short time. It was also a fun little adventure as we don't go to Hermitage very often and I took her there from East Nashville on backroads to heighten the suspense of where we were going.

  • Elliot P.

As Asian buffets go, it's average, just what you'd expect. I've had better, and worse. When I came in, the sushi wasn't fresh, but that was fixed by my second trip back to the bar, everything tasted as it should without any surprises in terms of flavour.

For the money it is hard to beat Koi Japaese Buffet. On Sunday the buffet with real sushi and sashimi is only $7.50 - try to beat that - you can't. The choices that they put up is incredible and it is freshly made. The buffet is pretty standard fare but is very well done. They do a great job and we will be back. By the way we were in a rush and we were in and out in 30 minutes!

  • Hilary M.

I was craving sushi. My friend suggested here. I'm not a fan of buffet sushi but she didn't know that's what it was. We ate there anyway. Wasnt too crowded. The sushi was ok. Nothing too special though i didn't expect it to be. There were a few really good rolls but they didn't replace them after they were gone. At least not while we were there. Probably wouldn't go back but it wasn't too bad of a place.

  • Janet S.

Graded in BUFFET terms, this is not bad, dim and trendy lighting inside, almost romantic - had it not been for the other 100 or so lunch time diners I counted. Hey at $7.95 per person you have no right to complain about anything and lets face it for me all the hot and cold items are foreplay for the banana custard and donuts. First plate today was spicy cold seafood, kimchi, sunamono, edamame and yes a couple of hard boiled eggs and cold shrimp. Secondi, 3 -4 pieces of roll. all this aforementioned was A-OK, chilled and fresh. There was a lad just making sushi rolls and as fast as he was making them the peeps were scoffing them. Third plate was a selection of the Chinese items, usual fodder, sesame chicken, pork on a stick, coconut shrimp, green beans and veggies, etc, all slightly less than A-OK and none of them hot. Lukewarm food is such a turn off so I headed post haste to the banana custard and donuts. A buffet can never be compared with restaurant food, especially the sushi but they did seem to be making an effort.

I made another trip this past week to Koi. While everything I said in my preceding review is more or less accurate, I felt like it was only fair to bump Koi up a star. Seriously, as buffet sushi goes, it's pretty darn good. And I'm actually a fan of their spicy rolls -- they had tuna, salmon, crab, and shrimp. The crab definitely was better than I remember, even if it may have still been imitation crab meat. And the tuna nigiri was just fine. Four stars for this place as a sushi buffet; still three for everything else. Still, I go for the sushi, and I dig this place. Edit #2, 3/23/11: Went again today. Wasn't quite as good as last week. I'll still be a repeat customer, but it seems there's a bit of variability in the sushi quality. I finally got around to trying their Habachi grill stuff too. Their beef quality is pretty decent. The flavors were OK, but I'll still treat Koi as a sushi buffet primarily. Edit #3, 1/12/14: I still like this place, but sometimes it really feels like you're playing the lottery. 1 time out of 6 it's outstanding. 3 or 4 times out of 6, it's a bit above average for a sushi buffet. And then there's that 1 time out of 6 when the sushi tastes fishy or is unacceptably fatty. On the plus side, I've always been really happy with the service (yes, I realize it's a buffet) and I tip accordingly.

So, I went here, after much "promotion" of Koi by my friend Domi. She kept telling my girlfriend and me how great it was and all the good food they had on the buffet.... even the hibachi. So, yesterday, after the second Nashville Anime Day, my girlfriend, friends (hers and mine) and I went there to celebrate her 25th birthday. I had called ahead at 11 that morning to put in a reservation for 25 (they take reservations for large groups), and in the end, 20 people came. Now most places would have gotten a little pissed at me for not having 25 people show up, but the staff at Koi was really nice about it and accommodating. They had given us their party room, which is actually quite nice, and were very flexible with stragglers getting there a little late. The service was very nice and they saw to our every need, even asking why we where there (my friend Domi is a regular, so they know her), and then asking my girlfriend when her birthday was. Though it was the day before they brought her out a really beautiful desert plate, full of carved garnishes, and all the staff wished her a happy birthday (not just singing the song but as she went to and from the buffet as well). The food, well it was amazing. For a buffet it was very good, and the made to order hibachi, though not perfect (like Benihana) was still delicious. Both my girlfriend and I had water and for a total of $12.01, what we got was a bargain. We will definitely return here in the future. This place is just so good and the shear variety on the buffet is amazing.

Koi surprised me. It is very reasonable in price ranging from a lunch price of 10 dollars to around 15 dollars for dinner. If you want to add crab legs there is an extra charge. The buffet has GREAT sushi choices for it being a buffet and it is continuously being made fresh and cold(This is where I get my moneys worth!). The hibachi bar has steak, shrimp, crab, chicken, and more. Desert bar is so-so but that not what i go for anyways. there is ice cream and kid-friendly food as well including chicken nuggets and pizza.

Koi was a bit of a surprise for me and it was a good one. First of all, the place has great atmosphere. Its not like most buffet places with bright lights and cheap furnishings. The places looks great inside where you feel like you have actually been to a decent restaurant instead of a quick dinner at Bubba's Buffet and Bait Shop. Its very nice with dim lighting. The food surpassed my expectations too. There is a huge mix of Japanese and Chinese food. If you like sushi, the do have lots of sushi. They also offer a Mongolian BBQ for people who like that kind of thing. The food is very fresh and tasty and better than your typical buffet food. The staff is also very friendly and well-groomed. The prices are very affordable. This place is popular with the people at the office where I work and I now understand why. I will certainly be going back to Koi.

I have never been to a buffet with so many sushi options. They have a mini hibachi grill too. Some American food for the kids and several different ice cream options. Staff was nice and place was clean. Still bringing out fresh food 20 min before close on a Sunday night but not a ton of options. Nothing really special about the place.

I will preface this review with two things: 1. as I always say I am from a Coastal State, so I am grading on a curve since Nashville is not. 2. I am rating this as a buffet, not a dedicated Sushi Restaurant. :) That said......I really, really like it here. I used to live in Hermitage a few years back and Koi was not there yet, that is disappointing and probably good at the same time, had it been I believe many a lunch and dinner would have been enjoyed here. I was told about this place by a Friend who works near it. Being that I live in East Nashville, I wasnt willing to travel all the way to Hermitage for a restaurant especially a Sushi Buffet. So, being that I work near the Airport, I opted for lunch. At $8.95 or so per person for lunch, it was worth giving it a shot. The place is huge - the decor is typical of Chinese Buffets nothing specatular but did I mention it was only about $9? The bathrooms are crap - no lie, they seriously need to address that but, I am not eating my food in there so I will take that over a dirty dining room I guess. The service is attentive and the wait staff is friendly for the most part. Lunch as I mentioned is about $8-$9 per person and less for kids, cant remember the exact amount (sorry ). So it is inexpensive....the Chinese hot food selections are run of the mill, Lo Mein, Fried Rice, Teriyaki Chicken - those that I tried were good. They have four soups typically and a Hibachi grill nice bonus! There is a seperate bar for Sushi and cold items such a squid salads, oysters (which I personally will not eat at a Buffet) and fruit, jello, dessert items. The Sushi rolls are good. They are actually made up of real fish and ingredients rather than a bunch of cold rice and miscellaneous vegetables like I have seen at other Chinese/ Japanese Buffets that advertise "Sushi". This sushi actually tastes good and is replenished often. There is a wide variety, I prefer the rolls to the Nigiri as I normally reserve that for Sushi places, but it is good too. My 7 year old is a Sushi lover and this is nice for us, because she can try different kinds without us breaking the bank. We have also visited for dinner $16 per person! and been satisfied. I think this is a great way for the Family to get better quality sushi when you arent planning on spending a ton of money.

I usually don't do buffets much, but I had a huge craving for crab legs. Went here for their dinner buffet and was shocked to find out their crab legs were not that bad. I would stay away from the melted butter sauce, it has no taste at all. I hate to say that that's the only thing I enjoyed from Koi. I tasted some of their Chinese dishes and sushi. The General Tso's and Sweet and Sour chicken was bland and tasted like its been out for a while. The sushi was ok, they didn't prepare the sushi rice correctly. I would stick to the sashimi, it was pretty good. My family also tried their Mongolian stir fry there and liked it.

Looking for a big lunch, and we found this using our Yelp App. Not sure what to expect out of a Japanese buffet in Nashville, TN but we were pleasantly surprised when we walked in. The buffet was HUGE and seemed to keep going and going. The place was clean and they had a lot of choices, including a chef cooking up whatever kind of concoction you would want. They had a large selection of sushi, but they were small and mostly filled with Krab. They did have Tuna and Salmon nigiri though, and it was good quality. Most of the food wasn't hot, but it was a great deal for lunch. It was a total of 7.96 for a gut busting lunch! Overall, we were satisfied!

My wife and I are afficianados of oriental buffets and I would have to rate this place above average (not perfect, though) from the others in the Nashville area. The name only says Japanese Buffet, but in actuality, it is a standard Chinese buffet plus Japanese sushi buffet. Let me explain with the pros and cons of this establishment: Pros: An excellent sushi bar with a great variety of sushi rolls and a much better than average Hibachi section including steak. Also in their fruit section there was a very good selection of grapes, peaches and other fruits. Also among the pros is the fact that they have two prices for the buffet - with or without crab legs - a definite plus for vegetarians who hate to pay a high price for something they aren't going to eat. The cons: the chinese buffet section is the standard fare - nothing outstanding here and, for vegetarians, just the usual mushrooms, green beans, spring rolls, fried rice and lo mein noodles. No vegetable delight or mai fun like many other chinese buffets. This can be made up for though by using the Hibachi section where the selection of vegetarian options is exceptionally nice. It could be even a touch better if they added a bean curd/tofu options for vegetarians. The dessert area has the standard pre-made coconut cookies and oriental cake desserts that come pre-frozen seen in most oriental buffets in the Nashville area...nothing new here, along with the standard eight or so flavors of ice cream. Bottom line - worth a try and definitely a place my wife and I will return to when we are in the Hermitage area.

I gave this place 2 stars because the food was lukewarm, and the some of the food trays were empty. The sushi was decent but not great. The soy sauce was also way too salty. On a plus side the variety of food did make it easy for my picky eating sister to try foods that she was not sure she liked. And I did make up for the lukewarm buffet food by having a hibachi style meal. The hibachi is great here. So two stars if you are used to Asian cuisine, or three stars if you are new to the Asian food experience and want to try it without feeling like you are going to blow money on food that you may or may not like.

Always love the hibachi and sushi here! The sweet tea was not good this time so hot tea was my drink.

This restaurant opened in a location near the corner of Lebanon road and Old Hickory Blbd in Hermitage in a good sized location. They have taken effort to make the inside nice with wood paneling and a Koi pond in the front of the store. The servers are attentive. They have three rooms available for events, and other than the price of the meal, they usually don't charge a room fee. I had my wife's birthday party there and it was great. They let me come in with some favors and small decorations for the room. The food is wonderful. I don't know about you, but I can tell a difference with buffets that really put out decent meats and items. They do a wonderful job. The sushi is great and part of the buffet price. THey have their own open area so you can see it being made and displayed. I don't think there is a better buffet for the price in Nashville. There is that cheap one off of Harding, but they are cheap and there is a reason for that! I recommend this place!!!

this is just down the street from my office, but I didn't know it was there until seeing it on yelp. bless the interwebs. really big asian buffet with a better selection of japanese items than you normally see. definitely have the basics (s&s chix, gen tso, chix & broc), but the lunch buffet also included fried shrimp, crawfish, miso & wonton soups, edamame, chilled seafood salads and a big selection of sushi. i'm not a sushi expert - I'll eat it but it's not necessarily something I seek out. There must have been ~20 different roll choices - mostly low cost items. There were some nigiri - salmon, shrimp, egg, pickle. Quality was ok - certainly not great, but I appreciated the variety of choices and that it appeared to be pretty fresh. The restaurant was a little busy, so nothing was sitting too long. There were a variety of vegetarian friendly options, but you'd certainly be limited in scope -- most of the items carried a meat or fish component. It was less than $10 out the door including a tip for the very courteous server. I'll definitely be back!

Husband & I went here last Friday night. I'm a fan of Todai's Schaumburg, IL location, so was looking to compare. The sushi isn't bad, isn't great---but then, for the price point ($14 per person for dinner), I'm not expecting world-class sushi. I will say that the tuna nigiri I had was better than some I'd had at Sushi Station in Rolling Meadows. I think it's interesting---at Todai, it's all about the sushi, and the hot food is an afterthought (and not all that good). But at Koi, it's the reverse---there was a line for the hot food, but none for the sushi. Annnyyway--the hot food was good, the sushi acceptable, and the service is good. Oh, and they have frogs legs on the buffet, so they get points; I've been meaning to try them, and this was my opportunity (I liked them). So--overall, not fabulous, but you do get what you pay for. I'll be going back.

The General Tso's chicken was ok as were the crab rangoons. The egg rolls were disappointing as was the hot and sour soup (the main reason I crave Chinese food). However, the hibachi grill was simply amazing. He seasoned my food perfectly and I finished the plate (can't say the same for any of the previously mentioned items). I'm also new to sushi but I loved everything I tried here. I'll go back again and again but stay far away from the Chinese bar. The hibachi grill and sushi are easily worth the money. There was plenty of fruit for the kiddos too and a nice dessert bar.
