We drive by this place all the time and have never stopped. But today I had Yelp app up while we were driving through Hendersonville and decided to try it based on the reviews. We were seated right away. I will say the service was really slow, our waitress had a friend sitting at the bar and she was talking to her a lot instead of paying attention to us. The food was great, we got the create your own sampler, fried green tomatoes, fried mushrooms and fried pickles. (way too many fried foods, I know!) they were all great. For dinner, I got the veggie plate and was pretty satisfied with it. The squash casserole was too sweet for my taste, but the carrots were really good as well as the mashed potatoes. I got the cabbage, but it had ham in it and I am a vegetarian so I gave it to my husband, he really liked it. My husband got the chicken fried steak and he said it was really good too, very tender. I had to get dessert, I got the Old Fashioned Carrot Cake. I think it was bigger than my head! Seriously, I think that I ate 1/4 of it and had to take it home. We will def be going back! Oh and the fruit tea was really good too!

This restaurant has really been smashed by the proliferation of new places to eat in Hendersonville and thats a pity. A great place for real comfort food. As a non-meat eater (Kosher head), I haven't had the meatloaf or the chicken-pot pie, but whenever I go with friends, that's what they always have and make loud Yummy noises as they eat. Its a place whose decor is..well strange, from the Antler chandelier in the dining room to the old style oak flooring, this place screams - well nothing, it just is and the is it is is comfortable. They do have some of the best fried pickles I've ever tasted. Their veggie plate is great, and while the staff isn't always the quickest, they do make sure you are stocked up on hot dinner rolls and cornbread. The full bar is also a plus (especially if you have four kids like us) For an easy place to have lunch or dinner that's a bit out of the usual chain line-up, its worth checking it out.

Quite simply, this is a wonderful individually owned local restaurant. Had dinner there tonight and the food, service, and ambiance were excellent. My wife had the sirloin steak. It came cooked perfectly; it was tasty, but not the most tender piece of meat (hey, it ain't Ruth's Chris). But, for $14, it was really good. She chose the boiled cabbage and green beans as her two included vegetables and was happy with them, also. I had the chicken fried steak and chose turnip greens and fried okra for veggies. The gravy was excellent and the meat was perfectly crusted and fried crisp. Turnip greens were the best I've had in a long time. The okra was good, but not great. The highlight of our dinner had to be our server, Holly. Service was professional and personable. It's the only time in a long while that a server has noticed that my iced tea was lacking ice after a couple of refills, so brought me a "fresh" glass of tea with plenty of ice in it. If we lived here, I think this would be a somewhat regular place for us. We both enjoyed everything about it.

What a pleasant surprise ! Was out for some reasonably fast good food and decided to try BEP'S. Have family in the area who had not tried the place and they will go back also. Very large menu , sort of All American. We had fish and burgers and steak , along with kids menu stuff and everybody was very pleasantly surprised. Just some excellent fare at very, very reasonable prices. Now that we know about this place, we will definitely be back. The large menu assures us of something different every time. This is the only one that is not in the state of Texas. Wish they were in more places !!!

My husband and I just went here yesterday for the first and let me tell ya! Great food, great service and great atmosphere! Wow awesome place to eat! Our server was awesome gave us a bigger drink for the price of a small one we got the lynchburg lemonade that was good! He even gave us new tea and coke in Togo cups for us! We have decided if any family or friends come from out of town we are talking them here!

I was in town on business and it was during the "arctic vortex." We were a party of 10 and they tried to sit us on the patio which was enclosed in plastic. We protested that it was 4 degrees outside and we wanted to sit on the actual inside, so they moved some tables together for us. The appetizers were good and they had good drink specials before 7. The entrees were not terrible, but we all agreed it was the worst meal we'd had so far in town. (To be fair, we'd had really great meals so far.)

Great menu, lots of yummy-sounding options. I got the "N'Awlins" Catfish, and it was quite tasty. Boyfriend got the shepherd's pie. I think they have a lot of very solid entrees, there are many things I would like to try. I see a lot of places that only have one or two things that I want to try, but I had a hard time picking my meal this night. Great brunch on weekends as well (though we were the youngest people in the restaurant by 30 years!) Decor is pleasant, service is friendly, and as my boyfriend pointed out, brunch here was CHEAPER and MUCH nicer than IHOP that we'd had the day before!! I got the broccoli ham quiche and he got biscuits and gravy. I didn't see if they had any mimosa specials--that would really have sealed the deal :O

We've been back to Black-Eyed Pea many times since my initial review, but always for dinner. After all, this is one of the places we like to bring out-of-town guests to introduce them to Southern-style comfort-food. However, this review is for their weekend brunch. By counting the stars, you can tell I'm still a fan. We arrived at about 11:30 on a Sunday morning, and the "immediate seating" light was still on over the door. However, by the time we finished eating, there was already a line of people waiting to be seated. I had a hard time picking just one item from the brunch menu, but I settled on the southwest omelet, and it was excellent. Maybe next time, I'll try the chicken and waffle or the crab cake Benedict. My daughter got the bananas foster Belgian waffle, and she absolutely loved it. I guess I could try that next time. So many choices! Yeah, we might have to do this brunch thing a little more often.

Everything was just good ol' fashioned southern cookin' and the staff was incredibly friendly. Try the fried pickles or giant mozzarella sticks. I'm not claiming any health benefits, but they sure we're good.

I thought that it was going to be a steak house. There are steaks on the menu but they have a variety of dishes to pick from. My wife likes the sea food. I've tried the salads, burgers, and other items. It's all good. We've never had to wait to be seated. The staff are friendly and efficient. And the do have black eyed peas as a side.

Great place to grab lunch! Food was fast and the lunch specials are affordable- you can never go wrong with Southern Comfort food. Try the fried green tomatoes :)

This is a good all-American restaurant! The overall favorite from my group would be the pot roast. Also, there is a special deal (I believe 20% off?) when you check in for the first time with Yelp! There were good drink specials, but I would pass on the house margarita. I am a huge margarita fan, but it didn't really do it for me. Black-eyed Pea restaurant is an affordable restaurant with delicious food! It was definitely worth the stop!

A pleasant surprise for a chain restaurant. It's not creative or innovative in any way, but for good, plain food it's not bad.

Really good food, not as wild about the brunch but we haven't been back in a year. We can't wait to go and try it again!

I think of this place as an up-scale Cracker Barrel. The food is similar--southern cooking--but less greasy, more varied, and the place has a much better atmosphere. Plus, I don't see CB offering a crab-cake egg Benedict with a side of asparagus any time soon. The brunch food as a whole is great and they even have chicken and waffles. The dinner items are good as well and there's a nice choice of sides.

June 30, 2012, Went to lunch with my husband Tony Vanoy and daughter Noelle Teel to Black-eyed Pea Restaurant. We had went to Hendersonville, TN to check out the Gravesite of Johnny Cash and June Carter, it was lunchtime, so we stopped here. We had never been here before. We were pleasantly surprised. The decor was lovely. The restaurant was so nice and the staff so friendly. They greeted us immediately and took us to our booth. The waitress came promptly and took our drink order. Noelle ordered sweet iced tea, I ordered my usual Unsweetened Tea with lemon and lime and Tony ordered a bottle of Budweiser.. The food we ordered was delicious! I ordered the Vegetable Soup and side salad. Tony ordered the salad and Broccoli Cheese soup. Noelle opted to get a Steak, she loves her steak. We were very happy with our food selections and everything was very good! We would definitely go here again! I highly recommend this restaurant to any and all in the Hendersonville area. The atmosphere there was very nice and the noise level was not loud!! The prices were very reasonable for all three meals only $35 with taxes plus tip. Go and try this restaurant..you will very happy that you did!!!

So I work with a woman who used to live in Hendersonville, and when I told her that I was moving there, she gets all excited and says 'Oh, you have to try the Black-eyed Pea.' Well, we finally got around to it tonight. I really wanted to like it, and I'm not just saying that. I love trying new places, and I always hope for the best. I was disappointed. Everything was wrong. The fruit tea tasted like they had just poured pineapple juice into a little bit of tea, the rolls were greasy, they got my order wrong, and there was a hair in my food. I walked out and left my poor husband at the table. The only good thing that came out of it was that we got our food for free and we have two free meals....not that we will use them. Side note: according to my husband, the waitress and manager were really nice about the whole situation. It is not the staff that I had a problem with.

Great lunch menu and quick service. I recently ate there with a group of coworkers. I got the 3 chicken tenders with coleslaw and fries (3 was more than enough for me). Food was great I enjoyed every bite. My coworkers got a variety of lunch menu items including the meatloaf which they said was fantastic. The rolls and cornbread to start were great to start. I also got the mixed berry sweet tea ( I forget what it's called) I thought it was delicious.

Every time I find myself in Hendersonville I try to eat here. I'm a big fan of any place where you can get a veggie plate. And by veggies I mean macaroni, potato casserole, and baked apple ;-) They have tradition menu items too, but I've never had 'em... If you order my way, this place is like a glorified Cracker Barrel with humongous portions. There is nice decor of the western genre and did I mention the bar? That's something you can't get at the other "old time country store"

Service was great-but the food wasn't. I would go to Cracker Barrel (if you want "home" cookin'. The menu does list many choices, which is a plus, but the quality isn't there.

Sometimes good, but you never know. Have had really quick service only to have to send the food back because it wasn't hot enough to eat. It's cheap, and ok if you've got a coupon.

My husband and I finally tried this place last night. We have lived in Hendersonville for a few years and drive past it almost on a daily basis. It never really struck me as a place I would willingly want to go to. From the outside it just never looked very inviting and the name of the restaurant really never did much for me either. Well, we had a coupon from our citipass book and since it expires the end of this month we figured what the heck let's give it a whirl. Well when we walked in I was pleasantly surprised. It was decorated very cute! It looks like walking into a very warm inviting cabin and the bar looked really nice as well. I thought huh this looks like a very nice place, but I was still skeptical! Our server brought us out the bread basket and the corn bread was done just the way I like it it bit crispy and a little sweet YUM! We both ordered grilled chicken and it came on a bed of rice plus any two sides our hearts desired! So I chose the mac N' cheese and cinnamon apples....the mac n' cheese was good....I think it was definitely pre done but good nonetheless! My baked apples OMG were amazing! Way better than cracker barrel! It tasted like apples right out of a freshly baked apple pie! The chicken was so flavorful and wonderful! Yay! Now I'm just bummed we let these years go by and didn't know what we had been missing and oh yah the prices are really good as well! We are looking forward to going back! By the way it appears they also have a nice private room for larger parties!

We met friends here for dinner. Staff was very nice and seated us quickly. Fried green tomatoes were good. All entrees, meatloaf, pot roast, and chicken fried chicken were good. I doubt we would make a special trip to go back, but it was ok for the night.

Ate here b/c my family wanted a place the kids could find appealing menu items. This place is sort of like an upscale cracker barrel. Meh OK, but not great.

Wait staff is nothing but excellent. We (party of 10+) eat there quite often. Food is good with great selection. Bartender does an excellent job when we are there at night. People in Hendersonville forget about this great & reasonable place to eat. Manager always comes by to check on us.

This might be one of the worst places in Hendersonville. There are to many other places to eat in Hendersonville to waste your time coming here. Poor food quality is my major complaint.
