Not exactly a kid-friendly place, even though they have a children's menu. The food was good, better than I expected. However, it's really just a fancy bar. The view to the lake was great but there was too much of a crowd that ordered no food and only hung out on the deck to smoke and drink. The decor and overall feel of the place was really nice, unexpected in Hendersonville. I say good for an adults-only meal or just a drink, but leave the kiddos at home.

great food. great service. great happy hour. yeah. i go there to sit on the patio to drink and smoke. there are so few places for smokers who want to venture out once in awhile. i only frequent a handful of joints in twang town and this is one of them.

Barefoot Charlie's, or as I like to call it Daiquiritown (It's a play on Club Dread's Club Pina Colada or whatever it's called and Margaritaville). Anyway, yep, it was all I thought it was going to be and more. First off, on the menu they specifically say, if you are in a rush, tell your server. This place runs on island time. If anyone has spent some time with a few islanders, you understand. Good news is we had two hours to kill before the movie. The chicken curry soup is pretty bad*ss. The fish tacos are also super yummy and don't seem too bad for you. The happy hour deals are great and the place was packed. A few minutes in there you really start to understand the Hendersonville crowd, I saw a lot of boat shoes and Maui Jims. Anyway, they have a shufflepuck table in the bar area and the theme runs through and through. If in the H-ville area I'll probably be back on a nice day. If you close your eyes it's almost like you're in Key West.....almost.

Well I stopped in here a few months ago and had a horrible experience, I told my self..self..we are not going back. The first time we went the bartender all but said we were not welcome there, she ignored us, changed the TV channel to Hockey (from a NASCAR race) and no it was not the Preds.. and messed up our drink order and said "o well" I wrote a complaint on the website and the owner called me and we talked for about 30 minutes and he told me please give them another shot I said no thank you but thanks for calling. Well as chance would have it my wife said we are going back. Much to my surprise it was 100 times better. We sat on the patio, had few beers had good food and above average service. Very pleased. I can say I may make another attempt at this place. It has such a good location on the lake and it really does have the potential to be a regular stop. When I go again I will review again.

I love this restaurant!! The food is great (the fish tacos are my personal favorite), the margaritas are yummy, the owners are super nice and I love the laid back atmosphere! I have probably eaten there at least 20 times, and it is always great!

Since my last review I have visited Barefoot Charlie's many more times and I think the food keeps getting better and better. I believe they have redone the calamari and now it is one of my favorites. The fried pickle slices are the best I've had. I have tried most of the food on their menu now and can say that I thoroughly enjoy them all, with just the one exception of the barbecue sliders. It is Spring as I am writing this and they have opened their patio. This restaurant was MADE for a patio. They open all the back doors and whether you are inside or out you almost feel like you are in the Keys or the Bahamas. They also have a newsletter that goes out every week and is written by "Barefoot Charlie" himself. They set the atmosphere perfectly in their newsletter and publish all the live music, which they have almost on a nightly basis. What a wonderful and unique addition to Hendersonville!

WORST PLACE EVER!!! We had a party of 7. After we sat down- you seat yourself-- we sat there for 10 minutes and 3 waitresses passed our table. No one acknowledged that we were even there. We got up and left after 10 min and still no acknowledgement. I just recently moved to town and will never set foot in there again. Horrible, horrible staff.

This is a great place! Amazing customer service! The food was fantastic. Love the outdoor patio! Good beer selection too. I hand the blacked fish taco's and hubby had the snapper. Delicious

I went here for the first time today and my, oh, my, was it good! Mmmm. They have been awarded Best Dip Ever for their Hot Shrimp And Crab Dip by my dad and I. It's one of my dad's favorite restaurants in Hendersonville, and we've eaten a lot of places there. Fish and Chips- Awesome, Blackened Fish- Awesome, Brownie- Awesome, Rum Cake-Awesome. Total awesomeness.

Fun atmosphere. Food is decent for bar good. My fav is the fried pickles and fish sandwich Cajun/blackened. French fries are yummy. They always have some kind of entertainment going on! Sweet tea yummy

When back to Barefoot Charlie's after getting email from Charlie the owner. I have to say he has done everything he stated to me he did. The staff was very prompt, friendly and did a great job explain menu and special. New menu was excellent as well has the food. Spicy chicken is highly recommended. I am glad we gave them another chance. Great job To Charlie and his staff. Manager Lee was helping out not seating watching. Highly recommend.

It has a great patio and a beach like area. The food is delicious and the lake view is so relaxing.

If you haven't tried this place you need to. I had their shrimp and grits and it is so much better than ANY other I have ever had. I have had that dish all over the southeast and this one tops them all. The staff once again was a joy and sitting and looking at the lake while you eat is very relaxing. This place is a must.

Love to go to Barefoot Charlies on a sunny day - well pretty much any day is good but sunshine makes it really nice. Very laid back, if you are in a hurry you will be frustrated, want to relax, have a drink and some good food, it's perfect. it's as close as you can get to the Caribbean on Old Hickory Lake. Give it a try.
(5)Carli M.
The fish tacos are good and the place has a relaxed beachy atmosphere. The service however is widely inconsistent from visit to visit.
(3)Scott D.
Try the RUM BAR!!! The fish tacos are wonderful, always have a great beer selection and a wonderful view of the lake. Summertime take the dog and sit on the patio.
(4)Allison B.
Amazing shrimp and grits. It was soooo good. Nice casual atmosphere and a really nice deck l overlooking the lake. My spouse had the hamburger and said it was handmade, with fresh tomatoes and really good toasted bun. The serving size was huge. I took half my shrimp and grits home. It also has a really nice bar area. Definitely will be back... I want to try the fish tacos and the low country boil, but I'm not sure I can resist the shrimp and grits again!
(5)Greg G.
Have eaten here a few times trying to give them the benefit of the doubt or just a bad night. The food is not great. Servers are friendly and work hard. Patios are nice because of the water views but don't go there for the food. it is a shame this place has so much potential with its location.
(2)Brandon S.
Came here a few weeks ago on a Sunday and it was completely empty which is surprising because the food is good bar food and the drinks are good. They have plenty of TVs and a few games for the kids too

Extremely impressed!!! Very sweet bartender and excellent food! Fish Tacos were good Cuban was spot on! Good Job!!!

We had our first experience at Barefoot Charlie's & I was pleasantly surprised... Don't go there expecting fine dining or anything fancy, cause it's not. But, it does offer a nice bar/restaurant menu & has a big patio with a lake view. I had the blackened fish Taco's, and damn it, they were good! Really good!! Grilled Blackened Tilapia with nice flavor, fresh slaw, and a zingy red sauce that was solid... I took my 4 yr and had no problems. I probably wouldn't take him at night when the beer guzzlers come out to play but this was early evening and all was fine. Wife had a fish sandwich and it was good as well... I tend to pay attention to what other people order when I'm out, not because I want to Yelp, I'm just a nosey food addict... The guy next to me had a big ass burger. I thought about grabbing it and running out the door... It looked that good. Anyway, I will be back. Probably bring my beer guzzling friends with me next time.

Was in the area on a business trip from Monday-Thursday. We came here Monday evening after work. Had a couple drinks from their amazingly cheap happy hour selections ($3 rails I believe). We had an absolutely AMAZING sever named Savannah. We asked her for hot sauce and she brought us this fantastic hot sauce of the Gods! We asked if they had any for sale, but alas, they did not. I forgot exactly what we ordered, but all the food was pretty good. I had something with jerk chicken and my coworker had a salad. We each also tried a drink from their new cocktail menu, and both drinks were delicious. We came back Tuesday for trivia night. We didn't win unfortunately, but still managed to enjoy ourselves. We did have a nice server named Susan. And Savannah was there again and came to say hi, but not only that, she remembered us and brought over the hot sauce! I thought she was exceptionally kind and the service there was fantastic. Second night I ate tacos and to drink I had the bushwacker. I thorough enjoyed it all! If we ever are sent here again for business, I will be sure to come back! I definitely recommend for happy hour.

What a great atmosphere to enjoy some nice cold beers in. I had the Shrimp Po Boy, it was great with that beer I was talking about. I can't wait to go back, it's a chill, relaxing environment. They have a wine tasteing that I missed out on, but I could see that they had a guy playing music while it was going on.
(5)Jennifer E.
Our favorite place to eat out ! Ireland, our 2 year old daughter enjoys playing in the sand while we wait for our order :) always friendly and just overall an amazing place to relax in the sunshine :)
(5)Joseph L.
Went there last night for dinner. Sat on the patio to listen to the music and just relax. The manager had a party in the back room with friends which monopolized the waitresses time. We had the worst service with cold food and long waites for our drinks. We finally had enough and got up to leave and had to wait 15 minutes for our bill. Everyone said they were SORRY but that didn't improve the experience. Won't go back!

This is where I take my family when I want to have the best atmosphere and enjoy the great local food and scenery of my favorite place in the world...my home and city of Hendersonville. The food options are not only good, but they have a great vegetarian selection for my family and I've even brought my golden retriever here. They're so encouraging for you to do that. Buddy loves swimming in the lake there and with the outdoor beach area, we can eat there and have him with us while not bothering other customers. Live music on weekends and great prices, what else could you ask for?!?! FYI, get the Caribbean Jerk Chicken! Mmmhhhmmm

Great atmosphere. Great drinks. Good food. Service was fast and very friendly. Can't wait to go back.

I had been here in the past and been unimpressed, but a recent trip in proved this place has serious potential. We pulled up to the shore in kayaks due to the delicious smells coming from a smoker in the back of Barefoot. They have a beautiful outdoor deck and even a patio with sand (a "beach" if you will). It's kind of like being on the shore near the ocean except you're on Old Hickory Lake. We sat at the bar and saw that the aforementioned smoker was doing chicken and ribs. Sounds great, we will try those. And WOW were they good! Really really good. Also they have an excellent happy hour so this surprise smoker meal was accompanied by several cold Landsharks. Our waitress/bartender was seriously on point and serving with a genuine smile. Apparently this was the first time they had smoked (it was Memorial Day) but if you're listening Barefoot Charlie's, this needs to be a regular thing. Perfectly cooked meat, excellent sauces, great service. I will be so sad if I go back and don't get this experience again.

Good food. Good waitress. Lacking wait staff on Sunday after church. Was there over 2 hrs. The owners need to do some better planning or come in themselves to help out.
(2)Ray F.
I enjoy Barefoot Charlie's. My family enjoys it and is a great place to go enjoy a casual meal and have an adult beverage on a hot summer day.
(4)Courtney G.
Waitress was nice, some food seemed a bit expensive. I only had a salad so I can't review the food, yet.
(4)Debbie R.
Love the Jimmy Buffett-ish decor and the island feel of the place, especially during this cold winter! Great service -- and I've been there for lunches and dinners. Good drinks, with a generous "pour". Food is easy-going island style and good. Live music on weekends. You will likely get a handshake from Charlie while you're there. Adorable! Can't wait to try the patio this Spring!
(5)Richard A.
Top notch service and the food is grea! Linda and Michelle are great! and I go there to eat and drink as often as I can....
(5)Michael P.
Tropical fun with a great staff. We visited two times and sampled a variety of food and blood thinners (drinks) and were never disappointed. As most tropical themed watering holes they serve a list of drinks fashioned after your favorite childhood treats, it's like training wheels for aspiring alcoholics with temptations like Creamsicle and Bombsicle. Screens for sports, patio with view of a small section of lake, hand shuffle board, ring game and a few golf video games. Come on down and get your girl drink drunk on!
(4)Faith J.
Normally this is a pretty good place to eat. But not this time. Our food was cold when we finally got it. The service was terrible. It wasn't even that busy.
(1)Claire B.
When I went, on a Sunday afternoon, there was a live band, and it was kind of noisy, but the blue cheese burger made up for it. I had recently had a burger at the Pharmacy, and I have to say this one was just as good, and cheaper. It's nice to sit on the deck and dine looking over the lake. The wait staff are friendly and they have good prices and a menu to please just about anyone.

Horrible recent experience! I have visited previously a few yrs ago during the fall for the bar scene & fire pit. The recent visit has made me realize how bad the menu prices for food & esp the lack of skill set required to become a waitress there. This obese, 9 month prego look a like, pathetic excuse for a waitress took our order. mind u they were not the slightest busy yet it took 11 minutes to return w/ our drinks, not to mention she had the personality of a wet mop & visually showed she hated her job.. To sum it up, two of our entrees were cold, she screwed up on drink orders, and at one point when she hadnt visited our table to check on us one of my friends walked over to her whilst she was chatting with a coworker & he tapped on her shoulder which she ignored for a good moment until the coworker brought it to her attention. Let's just say I left her a tip she won't ever forget!

3.5 Nice happy hour. $2 beer on tap. Just had the mussels which were a little mushy and lacking in flavor. Chicken wings were adequate. I'll try again---my local sis is upset about my 3.5. She insists on a 5; I told her to write her own damn review.

Worst restaurant experience in my life thus far. I was in the area for the big Steeplechase event, and along with 17 of my friends, we decided to go to Barefoot Charlies for the island atmosphere and live music, both of which were great, however the food and the service was THE WORST I have ever experienced. When I asked to speak with the Manager, she refused to come to my table, and the waitress flat out told me "I don't care" when I expressed the lack of service we were all experiencing. We all got up and left, and will never return.

Recently moved to the area and was excited to see a local restaraunt/bar on the lake with a tropical flare. Well after three visits now I must say this place is Not Good at all!!! All the negatives in previous reviews on both the food and service are accurate. Frankly, I am not sure how they continue to keep the doors open. Twice we have complained only to get a "sorry you feel that way" attitude. The competitor at the Marina near the Dam gets it. Don't waste your time or $$.

I really enjoyed this place! I was a little skeptical, but thanks to good reviews on yelp.com I gave it a try. SO GLAD I did!! My friend and I went afternoonish on New Year's Eve, and we shared three appetizers. The fried pickles were my favorite. I think they were the best I have ever eaten. They are very thinly sliced pickles and fried up to deliciousness! The ranch dipping sauce is also good. We also got the hand-cut cheese fries and the chicken quesadilla. The cheese fries were good, and the quesadilla was so-so. It had pineapple salsa in it which I am not a huge fan of. We loved the atmosphere. It was overcast that day, so we kind of felt like we were at the beach catching shelter from the rain. All the decorations are tropical, and it has outdoor seating which I will definitely be trying come springtime! The staff were friendly and efficient. I also saw that they have live music at night so that looked interesting. I didn't give it 5 stars, because I didn't order an entree. Who knows, maybe next time. I will definitely be back!
