Goodlettsville, Tennessee. This restaurant is clean. Food on the buffet bar was fresh. The buffet included seafood and cost was $11.99. Entrees included salad and soup bar. Prices started at about $8.99 Gravy on the country fried steak was thin and sparse, but they did provide extra upon request. The mashed potatoes were runny and tasted sour. I could not eat them. The spaghetti was good. Onion rings were good. Potato soup was good.

I expected a salad bar with a little more punch (i.e. no hearts of palm) but the Double Decker burger did not disappoint. They were very wise to bring it back. Rarely does hickory smoke impart so much flavor, but I detected notes of watermelon, canned asparagus, and linzer torte in the two strips of smoked bacon. The subtlety of the aged cheddar delightfully complimented the complex bacon and dual all-beef patties. This sandwich is an unapologetic grand homage to middle 20th century mainland American cuisine. Spenser, who's approach I would describe as laconically confident, skillfully timed the courses so that we could savor each dish but still get back over to the mall in time to pick up the rug rats at Chuck-E-Cheese. (Spenser's only faux pas being that he did not know how long the cheddar had been aged without consulting with Pierre, the executive chef.) As for the Triple Hot Fudge Brownie Carnival Sundae, well, the name - and the fact that I was clinging to the ceiling fan in sugar shock - speak for themselves. Move over K&W, Denny's, Perkins, and even Old Country Buffet (yes, I said it) because there's a new Sheriff in town; and he's a cartoon bear.

Every time my family went south for vacations, my dad made it a mission to hit up a Shoney's for the breakfast bar. In honor of him, I did the same. I was a little disappointed. It was just standard quality wise. The selection wasn't huge but how much can you put out for breakfast? They had scrambled eggs, bacon and pancakes. Though I do remember it being bigger in the past. The service was pretty efficient here, we were never waiting on coffee at any point. And I even picked up a plush Shoney bear despite the fact the host said he's never sold one before. Honestly, I think this was a one and done.

Great service, limited food selection. Quality of food was ok, nothing memorable.

Most Shoney's I have been to have been in the Atlanta, GA area and they are very run down and not clean. This one is a breath of fresh air for Shoney's. The breakfast buffet is hot and fresh and there is always a line to get in. The place is clean and we always stop by when we are in town.

The commercials look so yummy - the reality is just gross. Have tried a couple times with the breakfast bar - so gross, just can't bring myself to try lunch or dinner.
