My family and I love the menu at Chef's Market and choosing them as our wedding caterers was the perfect decision; two people ran to the buffet when they found out the food was by Chef's. I've never met anyone who's eyes didn't light up the moment you mentioned CM. Locals, just so you know, CM's large scale catering is definitely up to par with the excellence of their every day menu. They made a really simple, traditionally shabby- chic cake out of their strawberry cake and a German chocolate groom's cake. We used their bartenders who did a nice job of ensuring people had a good time, but nothing got out of hand.

Officially this was the first place we ate on our Southern tour (Nashville, Memphis, New Orleans- get ready my friends). My bf and I are staying with good friends in Nashville and they recommended this place for lunch. There is a whole lot to choose from cold salad to hot meats and sides. I ordered the Traditional club which had ham, turkey, and bacon with lettuce and tomatoes on 3 layers of of Texas. Along with that I got a side of sweet potato casserole. Man the sweet potato casserole is the real deal. It was sweet and the whole pecans within gave it a great texture. I could have eaten a plate full of just that and been satisfied. My sandwich was never ending.. It was full of my and bacon was cooked just right and wasn't too crispy or soft. My bf ordered the cranberry mango salsa pork tenderloin which was moist and flavorful. He mentioned that he was always nervous about having fruit with his meat but felt that this place got it right. One of our friends raved about the chicken salad and the cornbread and kept coming up with amazing flavors that he thought were in both. Needless to say at the end of the meal we were all happy campers and I was ready for a nap. This place is really spacious and apparently frequently hold receptions and other events there. If I lived here I would definitely plan an event there just to have their awesome food again!

Yummy. The hot chicken salad was very good. Be sure to save room for cake, sigh! Wonderful staff.

My boyfriend & I wanted something different so we visited Chef 's Market. Wow! The food was delicious, you get huge portions and the staff is super! We both agreed that it's a place we will visit again when we are hungry (take an appetite with you) for some heavy hpme cooking delivered with a gourmet flair.

Great food. Get the sweet potato casserole for dessert or as a side. Take a look at what's available, no doubt you will find something you will love.

If I lived here I would frequently stop in here. This is a cafeteria style restaurant with sit down quality food. They have a nice sized staff and they keep most of them behind the counter to keep the emphasis on the food and it shows. This was a nice experience. I had the Jerusalem chicken and two hot sides. Honestly, one hot side would have been enough. I just like to have a variety on my plate & I'm a foodie so I love to try it all. The sides seemed very fresh, as did the chicken.

After reading Brian C's review below, I knew we had to try this place. We were there on election night, and little did we know that there would be a large group watching local results on a big-screen tv brought in just for the night. Once we saw the dining area in the back, we knew we'd be okay to try it. One of the servers behind the counter explained how it worked (hot meals included two sides and a bread or you could order a salad trio). You order at the counter, they give you each meal on its own tray, and then you take your tray to the dining area to eat. My husband ordered the stuffed pepper (stuffed with salmon patty and topped with cheese) and I had the roast salmon. Both were really good and the meal, with beverages cost $30 total for two!! The dessert display case looked great, but we were too full to even try.

Nice find thanks to Yelp. I travel quite a bit for work and try my best to avoid chains as much as possible. I had a very tasty pork loin in a mango wild rice sauce. It was so good I am tempted to return there for dinner tomorrow night.

Wonderful, fresh, hot meals, sandwiches, and salads. We were looking for a healthy alternative to fast food on our road trip through Nashville and were so pleased to find the Cafe. My kids loved their berry, berry salad and green beans. We were too full to try their deserts but they looked delicious. We will definitely stop here again.

Chef's Market is the healthiest food in Goodlettsville and probably Rivergate too. They have cases full of prepared salads and casseroles along with a menu of wraps, sandwiches, soups, and choices for children. They also have an espresso bar area by the cash registers. Everything that I had there was fresh but I just didn't find the flavors amazing. A little pricey but it's a cute little place and in my opinion one of the bests in the part of town.

I can't believe no one gave this place 5 stars. It ranks right up there with great cafes in LA or ATlanta! If I can go to a small town and find a great place for sanwiches I would tell the world and here I go. I was visiting Hendersonville and my sister knows how much I like Rubens'(sandwiches). Chef's Market was just as good or better than my place I like to go in Atlanta. I didn't mind the order and then sit. I like the array of soda, tea, and coffee that was availabe that I could pick and go back for many times. The dining area was very tranquil and interesting. I'm going back next time I'm in town.

My third time eating here, the only disappointment thus far being when i came around 5:30 pm one night and the veggies looked dried out. Good food, very clean, very friendly staff

Chef's Market Cafe & Take Away provides quality food in a comfortable atmosphere. It is certainly a place that works to create an experience and not just a plate of food. You are welcomed by the cashier as you enter and when you get to the food line, you are surrounded by food that both smells and looks great. Some people may turn their noses up to the service style, which is looking at your food from behind glass and telling the employee what you want as they put it on a tray for you, but it is nice to see the actual food instead of a picture of what it would look like if you were the President of the United States eating there. There is also no wait time if you order the food from behind the glass and not a sandwich, which is always a bonus. The variety is wide with a changing daily menu. The price is moderate, but at least the portions are large. I would highly recommend Chef's as a great place to come and eat good food, fast.

One of a kind in goodlettsville. Wide variety of menu choices. Specialty salads on display everyday..from pasta to strawberry yogurt. The meat and three area isn't your typical meat and three. Were talking roasted sweet potatoes with pecan and spring greens....If you're looking for something new and fresh and healthy in goodlettsville ( they do servce cheeseburgers so it's not that health) try chef's market

I am new to the area and heard so many great things about this place. The first time I tried it, I got the pot roast and mashed potatoes--was not impressed. Then again, I come from a southern family so it's hard to beat home cooked. I decided to give it another try with a Thai tuna wrap--again, not impressed. Thai food has so much flavor but this fell way short of what you'd expect. The food is good, but definitely not exceptional and not for the price. Maybe a third time would be a charm?

Haven't been here in years but was in the area today and realized this is the best food in Madison, or Goodlettsville by far! Love the buffet style pay when when you leave setup. Deserts look awesome but I've never made it to try. Hot chicken salad is out of this world! Sweet potato mash is close to if not the best I've ever eaten.

OMG! Some of the best Southern food I've EVER eaten. Friendly and helpful staff. Clean restaurant and restroom. Great shopping too. I joined family (20 deep) for lunch and was blown away at the quality of the food. This is NOT your typical "everything fried" southern cooking. No, this is special. I'm from California and truly appreciate good ingredients, cleanliness, and southern hospitality... Which is not as common as it once was. HIGHLY recommended!!! I didn't get to try their cakes, but hear they are the best on Earth. I did see some that made me drool a little, but I was so overwhelmed with taste pleasure, I just couldn't push dessert into my gullet.

This restaurant has everything, from cheese burgers to wraps, fresh salads and side salads. To top off all that yumminess check out homemade pies and cakes!

This place is good. If you're into southern cooking... dont miss out on this gem. Its located in a shopping center, but both the food and setting are great. Staff was super nice. Actually was given a tour immediately as they realized we were first timers. Meatloaf, Mac n Cheese and Garlic Mashed Potatoes were on point. Wish I had room for the desserts at the end. Plan to spend ~$15 a person but worth it.

The food here is competently executed, the ambiance is precious, the service is cafeteria style (with polite counter staff), and the prices are very high. While some of the food was excellent most of it was merely passable, and thus it would have been a decent meal (and worth a repeat trip) if it weren't for the lingering savor of having been overcharged ($60 for three people). I've had many comparable meals for far less.

  • Wendy H.

I guess I am the only one who wasn't impressed. I have had their catering and it was awesome! So I decided to go to lunch with a friend and try their restaurant. The service was just ok. The lady helping us acted like it was her first day and kept saying "I don't know" to everything we asked...the salad was the worst ever- grilled chicken was gummy and dry. I will stick to Panera Bread as I know it will always be great. Especially for the price. Food is was overpriced for what you get at chefs market.

    (1)
  • Hall W.

Yes, I got it, the price tag might be a little on the higher end of thigns (especially being in Goodlettsville, TN - but it is worth its value 10 times over because the food is simply just beyond delicious. I came here for a friendsgiving and I was wowed beyond belief. Everything from the best Turkey, best mashed potatoes, and best pumpkin cheesecake I have EVER HAD in my life is from here (don't tell my mother please... luckily she doesn't use yelp). The decor can be a fancy cafetaria like if you want, OR it can be casual family dinner table away from the house, if you make some arrangements.

From chicago and this place nailed it for southern comfort food! They had a ton of variety to choose from. Would definitely recommend, and come back.

  • Sheila C.

First off I feel mislead. Was expecting a free standing county house when we drive to the location. Instead we were looking at a restaurant in a strip mall. Next it is a cafeteria style not table service. The decor is not really sure what it wants to be. Tearoom? Serious restaurant? The restrooms have a chef theme for the men and dogs with hydrants for the women. Strange. On to the food. The hot chicken salad was tasty as was the meatloaf. Good veggies. However one of the items we wanted, the pork, was no longer available but still on the menu board. For the most part, the food was not bad but overpriced. Meat with 2 vegetables with drink $15.00 a piece. Very small gift shop. Felt duped. At least we have a funny story from our road trip.

This is my go to, all time favorite place to eat. Yes, it is pricey. But look at what you are getting! I would love to tell you my favorite things, but literally I love it all. The salmon is what I usually get, but I love to go on Friday and Saturday nights to be have Chef's Table and sample everything. The staff is always nice and the owner is usually there helping too. I have also been to a few events where they have catered and it was amazing.

Have the best cakes here!! Seriously get my bday cake here every year... Well someone does anyways ;) Can be a bit pricy though!!... Food is hot and pretty delish!! Have had a couple times it seemed it sat out a little long though, not as fresh during slower times of the day. On a hot bar.

I've been generally pleased with the fare at Chef's Market (except for a lemon cake I had once--the cake was great and frosting was too much). Great variety.

One word.....wow. I had the prime rib sandwich and my husband had a Reuben. Meat on both was so tender you could cut it with your fork. Large portions and too many sides to choose from. Everything tasted fresh and was excellent . We ended taking home a piece of piña colada cake to split. Huge and mouthwatering. You have to try this!!!!!

Found myself on the north end of town Saturday. I don't frequent this area very often...and, it was lunch time. Where to eat? WHERE TO EAT?? So, I rely on my fellow Yelpers to guide me! I whip out my smart phone and click on my Yelp app, zeroing in on this 4+ star choice. I immediately liked the variety of the menu - from salad to numerous hot entrees. However, it was not easy to determine the proper queue for service, as multiple lines existed and patrons passed one another. Nevertheless, the lines moved swiftly and we quickly had our food. Verdict: the food was okay (but just okay). Prices were reasonable and the self-service style was not offputting. I was surprised to see that the queue for desserts (separate from the entrees) was combined with the line for departing customers paying for their meal. (I shouldn't have to wait behind someone having difficulty deciding on a dessert!) All in all. though, not bad. I'm not often on that side of town, but I may return.

This place surpassed my expectations and I would make the drive back there from Nashville (it's really not that far). I had 7-10 items that were all somewhat Thanksgiving themed. I couldn't tell you what they all were, but I can tell you that with each one my eyes got wide. The food tasted like it was homemade; nothing was too greasy or breaded; there were actual vegetables available and not just green beans with bacon. The owner and staff were really welcoming which definitely added to the homey atmosphere. As far as I can tell this is sort of American/country cooking, but it's done in a way that is unique and tastes fresh.

I'm visiting Tennessee for a few days and decided to check this place out. It's super close to my hotel and it also got great reviews on Yelp! This place is amazing! The portions are huge. I ordered the chicken, green beans, and Mac and cheese. It was all so delicious. We also got some German chocolate cake. Enormous servings. Overall, it was a great experience!

This is a beautiful space! I went for a private event so I'm not sure about pricing - but as far as a venue that offers amazing food and in a beautiful space. I loved it. The Sweet Potato Casserole was incredible. Hope you like pecans!

The all you can eat is amazing. Try a little bit of everything and have as much as you want. For $20 you definitely can't beat the price, and the food is creative and there's plenty of variety. Definitely worth checking out.

I ALWAYS eat here when I'm in Goodlettsville on business! The food is amazing - and good value. The pot roast is to die for. The Parthenon salad (with the artichoke dressing) is delicious. I have successfully avoided the bake goods on the way out - but they look incredible! Needless to say, I'll be back!

My husband and I were married on October 12th here in Nashville, TN. Being a bit of a "foodie" myself, I knew that we needed to put the catering at the top of our list of priorities. But also being conscious of our budget, we needed to find a company that would work with us to get what we wanted at a reasonable price. I cannot say ENOUGH amazing words about Chef's Market. From to start to finish, they not only provided incredible food, but incredible service. When my husband and I first went to the main location to sample the menu, we weren't sure what to expect. It was the first "tasting" we had ever been to! Even though I don't have much experience to compare it to, I can confidently say that it was one of the greatest tastings I will probably ever have the pleasure of attending. They displayed the food beautifully, and more importantly, our tastebuds were extremely pleased. When we first approached Chef's Market, we told them that we wanted a "classy take on comfort food". This is exactly what they presented to us! From a mashed potato and macaroni and cheese bar to the some of the best brisket I've ever tasted... They went above and beyond to make our menu a dream come true. After eliminating a couple of items here and there, the price came out to be extremely reasonable. And not once in the entire evening did I feel like we were lacking in the amount of food options we gave our guests. In fact, we were all stuffed. Most importantly, the wait staff associated with Chef's Market were some of the kindest and most helpful people we interacted with throughout the entire wedding experience. They were professional, constantly cleaned up and and made sure the meal was running smoothly, and they kept filling my wine glass the entire night. I don't think I even once started to make my way to the bar. If you are planning a wedding, event, or even just want to go eat a meal at their restaurant, don't hesitate! Chef's Market really goes above and beyond to make your day (and meal) as special as possible. Thank you, Chef's Market!

I love this place. I stop by every chance I get when passing through Nashville. I have tried a few sandwiches and several of the hot entrees. My favorite sandwich is the muffuletta. It never disappoints. My favorite hot entree is the Jerusalem chicken. The way it works.. there is a cold salad area which has mixed salads and the fixings for a "tossed" salad. You tell the guy behind the counter what you want. The hot bar works similarly in that you tell the guy what you want. You can have the already prepared items from the hot bar or order sandwiches from the menu. You then take your ticket to the front of the store to pay. I can't close this review without mentioning the chili cornbread muffins... they are yummy. I always take a couple home!!! Tonight I ate one while waiting on my sandwich and took one home.

This place is kind of an upscale meat & 2 or meat & 3 cafeteria type of place with a small country store shopping area. The food was all pretty good, though the menu design is a bit confusing and awkward. We stopped here as a last minute choice and thought we had ordered the meat & 2 dinner @ 11.99, but we're charged for their all you can eat option @ 19.99. Since it included the desert, we did not make an issue over it. The portion size is good so most people will never go for a 2nd plate...so stick to the single plate option. The food all looked and tasted pretty good as I mentioned however I would also suggest getting the salad dressing on the side so you can control the amount to your taste. The muffins are addictive. The desert area definitely is trouble if you're on a diet, with a large selection of incredible looking fresh baked cakes, cheesecakes, cookies and ice cream to choose from. My biggest complaint about their all you can eat option, aside from the cost, is that we were not allowed to get the included slice of cake to go. That "rule" made little sense to us, especially since it was not like the deserts were an all you can eat option...you only get to choose one. We would have preferred to take the deserts to go to have them later. We each only ate about half of our desert and ended up leaving the rest...shame.

  • Mary P.

Very confusing for a newcomer. There's no rhyme or reason to getting your food. You have to walk back and forth weaving in and out of people while the person behind the counter is weaving around other workers. The food ranges from mediocre to outstanding. Which seems to be the nature of a cafeteria style restaurant. The best things we had were the French onion soup, the summer grain salad and the creamed spinach. Dessert was great! Was hard to believe they charge they charge $18.99 per person and still make you pay $2.29 for you drink. It does include dessert but seriously .... Charging that much for a class of sweet tea????

  • Cindy B.

What wonderful food! All was fresh and made with "real" ingredients. We enjoyed a piece of dark chocolate cake that was to die for (and I'm picky when it comes to cake!). This place might be a bit of a commute for us from Wisconsin, but we'll visit if we're back!

Some friends found out about Chef's Market before I even moved to Tennessee and bought me a gift card, so I would have some place to eat while getting settled in my new apartment. I love this place. The food is always great and fresh, and the people that work there are really friendly. My only tiny complaint is that I tend to be a bit of a "late bird", and I wish they stayed open later -- especially on Friday & Saturday nights.

We enjoyed Chefs for over a decade and are excited to be back in the area to once again dining there. Always good selection of great food at reasonable restaurant prices. Wonderful place to meet friends for a meal without feeling rushed. (You can take your own wine) Once you go, you will be glad you did.

For over $13 I was hopeful that I would love the food but to be 100%real it sucked. Wish I wouldn't have stopped there. But the rating on yelp was so high. We ordered a almost $10 salad that looked like 2 side salads from McDonald's but somehow they found a way to mess that up. The pecans were coated with some zesty mess that did not go with the few grapes and 1/8 apple that was sitting on top the bagged lettuce. Didn't eat more than 5 bites before just giving up on it. For the other $13 lunch the pot roast was good. But the other sides looked amazing but I paid for appearance not taste. I thought my vegetable casserole was made with rotten veggies it tasted like biting into a rotten tomato cooked into a green bean casserole. I tried different sections hoping it was a mistake that somehow got put into the casserole but it was the whole thing. Honestly the only time I've hated paying for a meal that badly. I wanted to walk out because it was that bad but I'm honest and $27 later me and my husband left irritated and knowing we will have to eat larger supper to make up. Oh yeah. How hard is it to make a decent cornbread? Well someone needs to teach them. I couldn't even enjoy that. I feel robbed by this experience.

It's such an egregious oversight that I've never reviewed this restaurant. I've been here many many times and every time I leave wishing that they would open up locations all across the city because Goodlettsville is a bit of a haul for me. Chef's Market may be the finest restaurant in Nashville. It's sort of cafeteria style. You walk to the back where there are hot and cold options. Then you take your tray to the table, and pay on the way out. I'm a sucker for cold salads so I tend to stick to that side of the counter. My very favorite thing on the menu is the pimento cheese scoop. OMG, just thinking of it makes me salivate. If I had to compare this place with other Nashville restaurants I would compare the food to Puffy Muffin and/or Phat Bites. If you've been to those places then you'll understand the caliber of food that I'm talking about. It is quite simply amazing. The next time you find yourself in the Rivergate area, you must, must, must check out Chef's Market. PS, I'm pretty sure that catering is an option here too.

I used Chef's Market Cafe for a corporate catered lunch. Stacey was great to work with, she was responsive and had our wonderful food on time. I have only had the catering so far, and will be using them for all my future functions. Just to note, our lunch was up in Portland a good 20+ miles away.

I was attending a conference in the area and ate at Chefs Market three times. The menu provided healthy food and an amazing variety. This was a no brainer at the end of the day. The atmosphere is welcoming with plenty of seating. I recommend this eatery for groups and singles. Real value, great portions and very well priced.

This is one of the best kept secrets in the Nashville area: I was visiting my family and asked my Aunt where we should go. My only caveat was that I couldn't be able to get it in Los Angeles. Without missing a beat, she said chefs market. she could not stop raving about how incredible it is. The general Decour is very friendly and Home style friendly but not too pretentious, like Cracker Barrel is. as I walked up to the line, something special, caught My eye: crawfish!that looking at the rest of the menu I knew what I had to have. I was not disappointed. I had the Crawfish Julie poured over the salmon fillet with a side of mashed potatoes and green beans. I also had a herb roll from the selection. My aunt and uncle and father all had various other dishes. We sample from each other's plates, but without a doubt, the absolute best things that came out was that crawfish Julie. I could've eaten that and nothing but that. And I can stop up those incredible herbal rolls, so much the better. Also, their mashed sweet potatos probably made by a culinary god. I probably should've made a sacrifice to Dionysus after this meal. In short, if you're in the area, I highly recommend everything on the menu but if you like crawfish you may not be able to find better. Even in New Orleans.

Decided to try Chefs Market based on Yelp reviews and I was a little disappointed. The Salmon was not at all Cajun flavored and the Pork Loin had none of the advertised flavors. The sides were OK. The corn bread was the highlight of an otherwise underwhelming meal.

The food is always delicious, except for the dressing for the salads. I was not enthusiastic about my salad once they explained the type of dressings they had. It just wasn't palatable, and I ended up eating most of my salad without anything on it. The lines can be a beast. Even if you've been to Chef's Market on multiple occasions, sometimes it's hard to figure out which lines are for what. I remember being in one line, only to be told that I was supposed to be in another line, the other line was almost near the door! Thankfully, the lines move very quickly and I was able to order off the menu instead of waiting for the steamtable line to clear. Now, if you are going for desserts only then you're in luck because their cakes are delicious and they give you a sizeable piece. I remember getting my significant other and I slices of cake and ended up calling upon my siblings to help us eat the rest! They do serve cobbler and ice cream, however the ice cream isn't anything special and it's overpriced. The restaurant is basically a meat and three that also does diner-type foods, yet one shouldn't expect to leave out spending les than $15-$18. The portions are good, and I've ended up eating some food that I've never tried before. However, i've gone to Nashville Meat and 3's with the same quality food and I've spent less.

I had the Jerusalem Chicken with Garlic Mashed Potatoes and Alfredo Mac & Cheese. Really huge portions. The restaurant is in a strip center but don't let that fool you. It is worth the trip. The only criticism I have is that it was a little more expensive than I assumed it would be. $15 for what I had was a little pricey to me. However, I would definitely come back. Oh, and the Red Velvet Cake is almost as good as my wife's.

Summary: Good selection of food, super sweet tea, and AMAZING desserts!! When I asked a group of clients where was the best local place to grab lunch, they all said Chef's Market in perfect harmony and without hesitation. Situated in a strip mall, the overall experience exceeded my expectations. Everything tasted fresh and they had enough options to please the pickiest eaters. Although I felt it was a little over-priced ($15 pp for entree/sides & drink), I would not hesitate to go back. Be sure to check out the desserts as they are on point with Southern classics!

I have been traveling to Nashville for 5 years and finally found a hometown gem. If your staying at the Goodlettsville Courtyard, this restaurant is walking distance. The food is served cafeteria style, however, its fresh homemade gourmet. I had the Jerusalem Chicken, salad, spinach, and sweet potato. It was all very good. I can't wait to go back. Don't let the strip center fool you, this place is a gem.

Love their pimento cheese salad! Food is very good and portions are decent sized. Recommend the market salad trio with a herb roll. Carrot cake for dessert. Only complaint is the layout of the restaurant and that they don't serve alcohol.

Easily the best place in Goodletsville for lunch. I have been so many times and the good is always excellent, down home food. Be prepared for it to seem expensive, and then get over it because this food will keep you coming back. I suggest the hot chicken salad, the chipotle cornbread and also the quinoa salads.

I really wanted to like this place, but I don't. We went in the other night and I ordered the soup and salad combo. I asked if the fall power salad could be part of the deal and the lady said yes. So I ordered that and French onion soup. She said it would be a few minutes on the soup and they'd call me when everything was ready. No went to the counter when my name was called, but there was no soup, nor salad dressing on my salad. She asked what dressing I wanted on my salad. I told her I wanted the one it came with, and she responded that it doesn't come with a dressing. That's funny, because on the board it stated it came with an agave vinegarette. Once we got that straightened out, she asked me which soup I ordered. Then when she asked the cook where it was, he said she never put the order in, plus they were out. What the hell? So I've been waiting ten minutes for a soup you didn't even have?! Can't say I appreciate it. Not to mention I would have left earlier had she told me. That was really all I was craving for dinner- French onion soup. But whatever, I picked an underwhelming side to replace the soup. Then I ask for my roll, and she says the meal doesn't come with one. Once again, I refer to the menu board. Staff really need to know the menu! Then I sit down and look at my bill. It says $20, for s salad and a side that sucks that I didn't even want!? Are you kidding me? So I go back up to the counter, bc it says soup and salad combo is $10. That's when I'm informed the salad I ordered couldn't be a part of that combo. 1. What salad can't be made in a smaller portion? 2. I specifically asked that question and the other lady told me it could. She did adjust my ticket thank goodness. Then I ordered a piece of flourless cake (I should have known not to give them anymore money, but I wanted to enjoy something that night), and it was awful. So dry. Whole foods' flourless cake is 100x better. To sum it up- expensive, enjoyed no part of my meal, and the staff has no clue what they're doing.

Delicious food, good variety, local favorite (including mine), friendly staff, unique gift items, outrageously yummy desserts! Can't say enough good about this place. must tries are the salad trio, hot chicken salad, sweet potatoes. The all you can eat special on Friday and Saturday is too much for me but I do recommend it for first timers so that they can sample everything! So darn good!

Nestled in sleepy Goodlettsville is this unique gem of a restaurant. Somewhere between a meat and three modern southern cuisine, this place would be getting write ups in national magazines if it was downtown. Worth the 15 minute drive to Goodlettsville.

Loved this place. Will return many, many times!! The food was amazing and the portion sizes were huge. I am thrilled to have such a quality restaurant so close to me.

You know that rare occasion when you attend a wedding where the food is actually the bomb & you waddle away thinking a) I am stoked Sue Bob and Jimmy went highbrow, it was so worth the overpriced Macy's crystal I bought them. or B) 'those caters need a restaurant so I can eat that wedding food every day'? Oh, that's just me? Really?!?! Anyway, in the dead of January when nobody is gettin' hitched you can get yourself some GREAT 'wedding food' at Chef's Market in the 'burbs of Hendersonville! I'm that irritating friend who asks for a sample off everyones plate when she hits a new eatery, so I am happy to report that out of the 7 things I sampled everything was top notch but the pork tenderloin, which was a touch on the dryer side, but salvaged with mango relish. The highlights were the cornbread and yeast rolls (I would seriously go back just for those in a heartbeat and I'm not really a bread fiend), the vegetable casserole covered in ooey gooey chub making fabulousness and the presumably homemade baked beans with thick bacon. I know its weird I mention pedestrian baked beans, but these were special; just trust me. The place is really cute, if not a touch confusing at first for ordering but with fun accents for purchase and a little 'to-go' gourmet popcorn freebie stand at the door on your way out. Also very wedding-esque, no? In fact I'd say the 'feel' of the place is like a wedding scrapbook made by your sentimental well-meaning auntie. The average entree is about $15, but its cheaper than a $50+ wedding gift, so I like to look at it that way ;)

Discovered this hidden gem thanks to Yelp reviews. Took the family here for lunch while having my car serviced. This place is not much to look at from the outside, but walk in and you will be impressed. The salads, soups, sandwiches and other items are made with fresh, quality ingredients. Portion sizes are HUGE, so prepare to request a take home box. My wife and daughter were only able to finish off half of their sandwiches. The French dip and club sandwiches were great, as were the Chinese chicken salad, berries and NE clam chowder. This is a very busy place and well worth the drive. Don't forget to check out the dessert cakes. They are huge and taste great! The three of us ate off one slice!

Great find. Chef's Market is located just off the interstate in a non-assuming strip mall area with an uninteresting sign, but I think all of the locals know about it and go there for lunch. If this place doesn't have it, you couldn't think of it, they have everything. If you don't see what you like they will cook it for you fresh. The food is served cafeteria style, but is served so fresh and flavorful. It isn't like a cafeteria at all. One can make some healthy and delicious options too. Soups, salads, vegetables, entrees, breads, pastas, cold, hot,-they have it all and it is delicious and full of flavor. It is hectic and busy at lunch time, but I do go back.

I've never been disappointed. If you've never been before, I can understand how it could be very confusing, but the people behind the counter are more than willing to help out newbies. Don't be surprised if it's really crowded for lunch!

I could have put all the food I got away and ate nothing but the rolls, not that the food was bad, the rolls were so damned good it put the food to shame. However, the place is barely holding a 4 star in my world... I'll start with the bad and then the good. ::The Bad:: First table we went to and sat down at had a leg that had been kicked in - table was barely holding on / everything went for a trip. Price for a vegetarian is kind of absurd - I know we're not their clientele, but dang... if they hadn't had the "all you can eat" for $18 I'd be at $20+ for my first plate. I'm told alternately that the meat was ok and good but kind of spendy. And they need an instruction sheet on how to sit and how to order - to sit, pick anywhere, to order the method is go to the rear counter right side, wait for a person to come to you, that's your person for the entire run to the end. Nothing against it, people were just walking left and right and no clear indicator of "go here" As opposed to a sign that said go here, they had a chalkboard on a tripod that told you the chalkboard base was reclaimed wood... ok, as opposed to having something there to tell me it's reclaimed wood, tell me "go here, wait for someone, they will assist" - would be happy. I don't think anyone in the Henderdiggity cares about reclaimed wood enough to merit a free-standing ode to it in the middle of a restaurant. The pasta salad and couscous - all I can think of on this is from Futurama "the markup is amazing" - at 3something a scoop for dead average, wow - I would have been annoyed. Area around us was trashed... not going to weigh too heavily on this as I think we were just sitting next to human trash machines, I think that was entirely their mess. ::The Good:: Their rolls made the meal... their cornbread muffins were amazing... their cheese roll was... good, sadly not in the same ballpark as the other two. Their turtle cheesecake was amazing.. the whole table remarked how much better it was than the Cheesecake Factory, then we all had the realization that none of us had ever had a good cheesecake from there. Huh... The workers were nice who we talked with, it was a very neat little place. Sort of reminded me of Panera Bread meets the Piccadilly Cafe and then ups the class. I'd go again, only at a time when their all you can eat option is up as, my total would have been $30+ with my second plate. Seriously, their markup on fixins... whew...

I recently saw all the Nashville area city mayors speak on a panel moderated by Nashville Mayor Karl Dean. The final question was, "What local restaurant must everyone eat at when they visit your city." The Goodlettsville mayor said, "Chef's Market" and the crowd of 250+ applauded. It was the only restaurant to garner applause. The mayor knows exactly what all the rest of us know. This place is lusciousness and love times twenty! My household takes a weekly trek north to enjoy this caterer/restaurant in the most unlikely place, a tacky strip mall. When you visit for the first time, I promise it's going to be a difficult choice. They have all the food ready and under glass. You can choose from the cold salads area or the hot area. There are well over 50 items ready to be plated. There is a menu board to order from, also, but honestly...why? For my newbies, you must try the pot roast, sweet potatoes, green beans and a herb roll. Now, if pot roast isn't your thing, my other faves are Jerusalem Chicken and the pork loin...pause...if you're going to get the pork loin, get a sample first. Some days it's a bit "sawdusty." They have a daily special. If they have fish, GET it. That trumps everything. Good fish in middle Tennessee is hard to find. Other great sides are the creamed spinach, Oh..oh...oh...I forgot the macaroni and cheese...the corn, carrots and rice. I'm a cold counter consumer, but all my friends who are, love the stuff. On Fridays and Saturdays, they have The Chef's Inspired Table at night. It's all you can eat everything, PLUS they set up a carving station. Little known fact, you can get all-you-can-eat any day, any time. You just have to tell them. The just don't have separate station, which separates this option from The Chef's Inspired Table. Still, you haven't reached the best part. The dessert counter. Hands down. Get the strawberry creme cake. Now, if you can't settle on one, check out the Hummingbird Cake, German Chocolate and Chocolate Elvis. There's also a full gourmet ice cream counter and coffee bar. Finally, they have a good little buyer for this place for their mini-shop. They have all kinds of unique trinkets, boxed foods and gifts. When I'm looking for a unique gift, this is always one of my last search places. Honestly, I can't say enough good about this place.

Real food here. I never go to chain restaurants when I can find a place like this. Salmon and two side choosing from 15 salads and 10 hot and tasty sides, all for $15. Dessert was $4 and there we many other yummy choices besides Red Velvet Cake (see photo).

Glitter truffles! Yes, I mean chocolate truffles covered in edible glitter. For me, that's a win-win situation - love truffles, love glitter, so Chef's Market gets my vote. The glitter truffles formed my introduction to Chef's Market, but since moving up to this area of Nashville, I've also eaten at their lunch deli. They have wonderful cold salads and a selection of hot entrees, sides, and soups. It's a great place to eat for (not so strict) vegetarians. For example, today I lunched on a wonderful vegetable casserole. The food is tasty, filling, and not skimping on fat and flavor (but still better for you than most of what you'll find in Goodlettsville). If you're in the Rivergate area, this really is the best, most wholesome place to lunch.

Something for everyone. Top quality gourmet eatery and deli. I love the hot chicken salad with the Alfredo mac n cheese and butter roll. To die for. A bit pricey but it is top gourmet.

Staple, super glue or duct tape your mouth shut a few days before heading over to the Chef's Market for their Friday or Saturday all-you-can-eat buffet held between 4-9 p.m. Otherwise, you won't possibly find the room to sample all their delicious food. For just shy of $19 a person, you can enjoy anything and everything. Prime rib, fresh shrimp, salmon, chicken stuffed with brie cheese, pot roast and crawfish stew are just a few of the main courses. There's every kind of salad you can imagine including freshly tossed greens with your choice of dressing while you wait. Also all kinds of hot sides from yummy mash potatoes to fresh vegetables to fried whatever. Save room for desserts with a flourless chocolate cake, coconut cake, lemon, chocolate layered, cheesecake...my stomach hurts just thinking about it all. Was it all the best I've ever tasted? No, but it was all fresh. And if we didn't like something, well, it was on to the next. Keep in mind, they serve NO alcohol, however, you can bring your own wine in and there's no corkage fee. That's right, none. Their main business is catering. They're catering our friends' daughter's wedding. The weekend we went, they prepared food for three events and planned to feed around 4,000 people. Consequently, this staff is the best. Other restaurants could learn from them. They are all there to make your experience memorable. They don't expect tips, but do it anyways. Come on. We will definitely be back.

This could be one of the most unusual restaurants in the area and one of my favorites Gourmet food served buffet style. I have visited this restaurant many times and have yet to get something that I did not like. On Friday and Saturday they have a special chef cooked bar that is all you can eat which looks really good. The Jerusalem chicken is really good, spinach maria, sweet potato casserole, herbed rolls, fruit sweet tea. There are just too many choices so I guess i will have to go back again and again till I have tried everything. Highly recommended. Inexpensive too. Marvelous desserts if you aren't already overstuffed.

Tucked away in a strip mall in an area over-saturated with chain restaurants is this very refreshing surprise. From the moment you enter you realize, this is SO not a chain. Yay! There is an area with tons of cold salads to choose from, including three types of chicken salad (I love their old fashioned chicken salad but the Beijing is also very good), pasta salads, corn and avocado, fresh fruit, tuna, and many more. I often get the salad trio where you can choose from three of these, great for the indecisive crowd (me). There are "leafy green salads" like caesar and one with goat cheese and strawberries, or you make your own (they make it for you though) which I do sometimes. They are so amazingly fresh. There are also daily soups and the regular french onion and clam chowder, which is quite tasty and filling. The hot foods area includes daily specials and some constants, like the Jerusalem chicken (excellent and one of their most popular dishes I was told), pot roast, hot chicken salad, cajun seared salmon, and pork loin. These are served with an option of one of several rolls. You also have the option of choosing from their sandwich and wrap board which has tons of choices. I haven't tried those yet but I haven't had anything not delicious here so I would imagine those would be too. The cakes, desserts, and handmade ice cream at the front of the store (where you pay, by the exit) tempt me every time. Other cool bonuses... they cater, and there are a bunch of adorable and unique gift-type items that they sell. Oh, and the service has always been very friendly when I've been, always a big plus in my book. Definitely check this place out if you're in the area.

If you are looking for good food with varieity this is the place. We were traveling brom Orlando to Chicago and were looking for a good meal. This is the place to go. The other choices were all chain resturants, and you know how you feel after eating their. I would definately eat here again.

Consistently great food. The roast pork loin is tender and served with a flavorful rice. The sweet potato casserole is perfectly flavored. The breads are good. The desserts executed wonderfully. I cannot think of a negative thing to say about this place.

Everything my husband and I had was absolutely amazing! Their sweet potato casserole and strawberry cake were probably the best I've had. Even the vegetable medley was outstanding. It took me forever to decide what to get because everything looked so good. My only complaint is that I couldn't fit more in my stomach!

Offers a variety of food items from salads, soups, meats, fish and veggies cooked a variety of ways. More of an upscale taste but not at the price. Sandwhiches range from $8-$12 and entrees range from $8-$15 and salads are $8-$12.
