In a city overrun with mexican restaurant, this one is below average. We went after lunch, and the restaurant wasn't busy at all. Service was attentive. Most judge a mexican restaurant by the complimentary chips and salsa. This place did not fair well. The salsa had a strong vinegar taste (too much). The chips tasted a bit stale. I know that even in my favorite mexican restaurants, the chips and salsa can vary greatly between trips. Because of this, they will get a pass since this is my first visit. I had the combo lunch fajitas. The flavor and the porton size was adequate. However I only received two flour tortillas. Was enough for me, but most would probably want more. Kasey had the taco salad. While she enjoyed it, it lacked beans (an ingredient most provide). Overall a decent experience but certainly not enough to make me choose them over the other 5 mexican restaurants within a few miles

Great location in Germantown (though the parking lot is way too dark at night). The food is good, solid Mexican cuisine with a nice variety of dishes at prices that are average for Mexican food in Memphis. I had soft chicken tacos and found them to be tasty, well-cooked, juicy, and well-seasoned. I found the service to be fast, friendly, and efficient. I did not try the margaritas and so cannot comment on those. The atmosphere is average for a Mexican restaurant with a festive color scheme. I went on a Friday evening and there was a live Mexican music band -- but not too loud and obnoxious as I have encountered in some other Mexican places.

There was a child in the kitchen. I will never go back. Servers were slow and they all looked bored and tired. No one was dressed for work. The plate was hotter than the food that was barely warm. I regret wasting my time and money.

The place is a little bit old and a little rundown. Service was quick and efficient and the food was tasty. For living in Germantown it's a quick easy bite and not too expensive. At least the bathrooms were clean! For four people we spent $42 without any drinks just water.

Food totally bland Everything tasted the same- no diversity in flavor, texture, or presentation big globs of brown stuff on the plate. Yuck

This is a very good neighborhood Mexican restaurant. Menu is what you would expect in a Memphis Mexican restaurant and the prices are perfect for the market. The authentic steak fajitas are some the most flavorful I have had. Service was excellent.

I never will go to El Chapultepec again. We went to dinner there last night and I sat my sunglasses on the table. I left them there. Totally my fault. I'd just bought them at Costco for close to $100 so I was furious with myself when I finally realized it when I went to leave today to pick up my oldest from school. Searched house and cars and couldn't find them. So, I called up there and a woman answers and she says "no we don't have them. They'd have been given to me if someone would have picked them up." Hung up and told my husband to double check my nightstand. Not there. I start trying to remember when I last know I had them. I then realized we took some pictures at the table and I pull them up and there the glasses are on the table in the pictures so I know I had them there. So, I call back. She again says they weren't there but I ask her to please, please, please check again because we took pictures at the table and they were on the table and it's the last place I know I had them. Whoever bussed the table would have seen them. She sets phone down and I hear her talking and I wait and wait and wait...for 10 minutes. I add my husband to the call and ask him to go up there. I think she thinks she's hung up on me but don't want to hang up in case she's diligently searching. I then hear someone rustle with the phone and click. Call over. Ugh!!!!! Justin walks in and they say "sit wherever you like" and he says "no, my wife has called up here and was on hold for over 10 minutes and then hung up on. I need to talk with someone." He gives no other information. A woman stands up, walks behind the counter, reaches down, and voila there's my sunglasses! Not another word spoken. No, "I just found them!" Or "I might have accidentally hung up". Infer your own assumptions as to where they were. I know what I think. Not good business ethics to me.

cheated on our usual Mexican joint because we had a buy one-get-one coupon. we were skeptical at first because the place looked deserted from the outside but were pleasantly surprised. staff is friendly, menu is a little more creative than la hacienda or el porton, and the portions aren't just gigantic. salsa was delightfully spicy and food seemed more fresh and less greasy than other places. we will be coming back.

Horrible. Ordered to go and we were missing an item but didn't realize it until we had driven 15 minutes back home. We called and asked to not be charged for what we were missing but were offered a gift certificate instead for the cost. Which was $3.25. Completely useless offer as they refused to return the amount we were charged for what we didn't get. Obviously it wasn't a large amount, but it was inconvenient nonetheless. The food we did get wasn't great-the guacamole was clearly from a mix. I don't have really high standards for Mexican restaurants like that, but at the very least they can slice an avocado and onions. There are too many other options in the area to return here.

First time I've been to that location. Typical atmosphere for a neighborhood Mexican restaurant. The staff was very nice and super attentive. The salsa was mediocre, but I'm a sucker for dip so of course I gorged myself. I consider myself a tortilla soup connoisseur. I order it at every Mexican restaurant I go to, which is very often. I must say, I was disappointed. It took a lot of lime and pico de gallo to doctor it up! Maybe next time I'm in town I'll give it another shot!

My wife and I live 2 minutes from this place and had never been there until 2 weeks ago. I have to start out by saying "NO" Marcus R. Most DO NOT judge a mexican restaurant by the complimentary chips and salsa. (that would be a Tex-Mex restaurant, REAL Mexican restaurants do not serve chips and salsa.) There are few Tex-Mex restaurants in the city that will make Fajitas to order. They do!!(Marcus, to order means your steak or chicken fajita meat was not sitting in a warming drawer before you got there. You can actually ask for steak medium rare!) My wife and I ordered the steak fajitas, med-rare.. They were served to us med-rare!! After chatting with one of the owners we tasted ALL of the sauces, even off the menu sauces. As Tony the Tiger would say They'er Grreattt! If you like Margaritas you must get the "Texas Top Shelf". Mmmm Great Tex-Mex, great flavors, great service and very reasonable prices. I say give it a shot!

We have not been going there as often as we were when I gave my last review. We used to go every Friday for the margaritas and split the chicken fajitas and mushroom quesadilla. I like the salsa fine because it's very tomato-ey (new word) and less onion and cilantro (not my thing) but still has some heat. A few weeks ago, we went there and I was quite disappointed with the margarita. It tasted like a powder mix and had a brownish color it had not had before. I thought maybe they had given me the wrong margarita (I always get the Texas/top shelf) but husband said he saw them get the right one. We decided to give them one more try because it's hard to get a nice, JUMBO, tasty margarita around here that's not too sweet. Well, I thought it was not as bad as last time, but still had that powdery mix taste and odd color. They must have changed something and it's just not doing it for me. Still pretty good compared to some others, and I still like their food. The beans are great, so must be full of something awful for my health. Very disappointed with the margaritas, though, as that was my main attraction to this restaurant. We'll probably be moving on to find another mexican place with jumbo m's!

The BEST margarita in the Memphis area. Hands down. If you know of a better one, please do tell; we've tried many.

Mediocre, three star food. One star service. The staff has no sense of urgency and doesn't care about you. Went on a Saturday night and we were one of 3 tables. That's why.

what happened? 3 weeks ago the staff changed and the service tanked. Went there and left after ignored for 20 minutes. Get it together!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
