This restaurant is one that my son and I fairly frequent. Chicken tenders, hot dogs, and grilled cheese are on the kiddie menu, and if you have kids, know that that can't be beat. I highly recommend the black eyed pea dip. I know that it sounds disgusting, but it's fabulous. Black eyed peas, artichokes, and cheese. Yum. The french onion soup is also very good with just the right amount of cheese, croutons, and onions. We've had the tamales and they are pretty standard. Not bad, but nothing like the ones that you can get at Hicks in Clarksdale (which are hands down the best ever). The stuffed baked potato is pretty good as a side, but I have had it a few times and the potato has been a little dry. The burgers are fantastic. I do agree with the one reviewer that says the burgers are better than Hueys. I realize that is sacrilege to say here in Memphis, but I do feel that it's true. No beers on tap, but they do have some good bottled choices. Belmont grill is dark inside, but I like how you have your own private little booths. We've always had great service - waiters and waitresses recognize and remember you if you are a regular and go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need during your meal.

Not a place I would go eat steak - I'm picky about mine. The Belmont Grill is much like Huey's except they have a more extensive menu (that doesn't change). It's is one of those joints where you go and have a nice quick simple meal or hang out by the bar with a few regulars. It's cheap, it's tasty, consistent and friendly. There is a reason why they're crowded all the time - certainly every time we're there - and we're no celebrities :) It's not the cleanest feeling place. It's not dirty... the air inside just feels heavy and oily lol. Maybe it's just me - yes, I have some issues :D But I do return for their hamburger (which btw, is actually better then Huey's - juicier!), their fish sandwich is YUMZ. The service is consistent - they're mostly friendly and chatty sometimes - if it's not super busy - and I can't say I've had a bad meal ever in there.

Great neighborhood bar/restaurant. Very comfortable non-chain feeling. I like sitting at the bar and meeting life-long Memphians as well as smart visitors. Bloody Mary was excellent, I liked that I could taste horseradish. I had a wonderful hamburger steak with au jus (you can choose mushroom gravy) It's served over rice with spices It's served with a little loaf of yummy bread. Many normal sides to choose from but I choose potato skins which I believe were prepared in-house. I like to stop here anytime I'm in this part of town.

I just. Can't. Two years elapsed between my first and second visits to this dive, and if twenty years passes until my next visit, it won't be too soon. Clearly there is a dearth of dining options in the Poplar/Forest Hill-Irene area, or this place wouldn't have such a cult following. First, the prices are sky high for what you get. An app, couple of beers, and couple of entrees could easily set you back $50 - in a bar! Service is slow, sometimes the cleanliness is suspect, and the cheese dip is really nacho cheese in a machine like you'd get at a sporting event. It's usually packed, so maybe I have missed something?

The place looks like a Belmont Grill, but, the flavor of the burgers is awesome. Go for the vegetarian burger, which has a Portobello mushroom stuffed with cheese. It's delicious. Avoid the lemonade unless you want to have a diabetic attack, and go for the regular french fries, not the cheese ones.

Went to Belmont last night. Ordered their wings as an appetizer with sauce on the side with our drinks. 30 mins later the wings still haven't arrived, the waitress apparently didn't remember to say no sauce and they ended up having to remake the wings. 20 mins later we finally have our food but don't see our waitress again and actually have to follow her into the kitchen to get our check and pay. There were only 3 other tables with customers in the entire restaurant.

I feel the need to review this restaurant. I had no idea there was a Belmont in Germantown until 2004. When you walk in, you can picture the cigarette machine and surly servers from the past. Now, it is an old restaurant made new. Christmas twinkle lights hang from the trim and ceiling, everything is coated in "diner film", the scum from the fry oil wafting in the air that leaves a patron smelling like the restaurant for the rest of the day. Let's just call it "divey". The food is so-so. I like a meat-and-three, or a vegetable plate, as the southerners do. Veggies are good, sometimes overseasoned. Salads come in well-loved bamboo bowls, the rest of it on melamine or old white plates. My parents eat here regularly, and apparently there is some type of rewards card that they scan and get $10 for every $100 they spend, so they come here consistently, eat cheap food with good beer, and leave generous tips. If the food is average, the servers are super, which is the only reason I return! For the kids, there is a treasure chest in the front lobby, and kids may pick a little goody when they visit.

This place is poorly operated, a little dirty and the pub food pretty much sucks. I mean, how can you screw up pub food? Condiments on the table were mostly empty, the table was sticky. The steak sandwich was tough, over cooked. The service was friendly, but slow. I suppose if you know the regulars here, you might have a better time. It appears that there is a group of customers that all know each other and the bartenders. Everyone else in the place seemed to be ignored. I am glad that Huey's is now open in Germantown, because we can now get decent, affordable pub food with good service. Don't go here.

This is a neighborhood gem as a lunch spot serving typical bar and southern comfort food. I love the grilled chicken sandwich with Swiss cheese. The chicken breast is marinated for 24 hours then it is seared on a hot grill. It is very flavorful, tender and moist.

  • PJ T.

Burgers here are about the only item on the menu I'd recommend. Everything else I've had is your basic pub food and nothing really special about it. I don't think they've updated menu items in 15 years that I can tell. Tables aren't really clean either.

belmont is in our regular rotation. I often order a tossed salad in an effort to be healthy. I know with the garbanzo beans I am getting some protein (I'm a vegetarian) I guess they were out of them tonight.

I love the East Memphis Belmont, so I decided to give this one a try too! The menu and specials are different. I definitely prefer the east Memphis location's food. Also, when I visited, there were 2 waitresses waiting 18+ tables. Not the girl's fault, but very slow service for that reason!

I've been eating at this restaurant for years. It has always been amazing and has wonderful service. The cheese sticks are probably their number one app. The steak sandwich is famous for a reason. The decor is a classic American tavern. I've never had a bad meal or bad service.

I went here to take a friend for a birthday dinner. When I found a bug in my food, I quietly walked to the server to tell her what happened. I didn't want to upset my friends. Fortunately, the bug was intact at least. Imagine my surprise when the server actually asked if I wanted another sandwich??!! She then told me they would take it off my check. I finally asked for the manager who told me they were sorry and would take it off my check. Seriously? Because I had people with me, I did not have the usual reaction I would normally have. Never have I been anywhere that they would not have apologized all over the place and not charged anything. They didn't even take my drink off the check. The server had an attitude and never came to give us drink refills. I will never walk in the door of this place again and I would suggest the same to anyone who wants clean food!!!

I've eaten here several times and can't really say that the food has been anything but average at best except for the chicken wings. My last meal at the Belmont was the fish sandwich. It was grilled swai, which I think is similar to catfish. The fish itself was very good and had they put this on a hoagie roll it would have been an outstanding sandwich but they didn't...They put this relatively large filet of fish on this tiny hamburger roll and there was absolutely no way to eat this thing by hand. My wife had the burger which was average at best, also on a very small roll. Hey Belmont, if you're reading this, spring for some hoagie roll's. That fish sandwich would be a 9 if it were on a nice fresh hoagie roll.

It is a better bar than a restaurant. Food selection is limited, and I would guess that most is not freshly prepared in the restaurant - probably a lot is frozen or canned.

The food used to be awesome, but has been declining in recent years, and the crowd keeps thinning. Despite this, my parents continue to eat there at least once a week. That was until tonight. My mom came in with a boot on her foot from an ankle injury, and my girlfriend and I were on our way to meet she and my dad. They asked for a five top for a group of four, so she could prop her leg up, to which the waitress asked the manager who declined. Next my parents asked if they could maybe add a chair to a four top, which was also declined. The wait staff had their jaws dropped as the manager was telling them he couldn't accommodate. It wasn't like they were full, or even half full. What would they have done if just one person showed up, would they refuse to sit he or she at a two top? My dad made a comment to my mom that the manager should be pumping gas, to which the manager followed them out of the restaurant and became confrontational. That's not how you treat your customers, especially loyal customers with injuries.

Best burger in Memphis, although not perfect. The meat is pretty densely packed to be a five star burger, but it's nicely charred on the outside and has a good flavor, in spite of being a bit dry. The french fries, potato wedges really, are crisp on the outside and fluffy on the inside, with good potato flavor, which is just what you expect from a french fry. Edit: They've changed their burgers and they're now flat, rather than the rounded ball they used to be. The charred flavor has gone away, while still being densely packed and dry. My guess is that they started using pre-formed patties provided by their food service vendor, just like everyone else. I'm not going back. I'm downgrading them from 4 stars to 3. I would have docked another star, but their potato wedges are still good. Edit again (2/22/2015): The Poplar/Mendenhall store continues to serve the burger that I praised at this chain; it was the Forrest Hill store that had disappointed me. I restored the 4th star. It's still the best burger in Memphis, IMO, but the density is still an important flaw.

You have to love a place that pokes fun at itself with year round festive indoor lights. Belmont is the neighborhood restaurant that we love, with its quirkiness and warts. They work hard to deliver a quality dinner and attentive yet somewhat humorous service. You come here for good friends, good times, and dependable food. Four of us enjoyed their ribeye special dinner tonight and made an evening of it. Great to have good food and a great atmosphere in a neighborhood restaurant.

What a disappointment! The closest pub to our place has terrible food. The chicken livers were overcooked. The seafood gumbo tasted like a seafood soup in tomato sauce. I couldn't taste any kind of roux in it. My wife's fried catfish was mushy. We'll probably stop in for cocktails, but we're not gonna eat here.

I like this Belmont location better than the East Memphis one. Maybe because it's a little bigger inside. I like the shrimp bisque and stuffed potato. It's a good place to go late night and they sometimes have live music. It's also a good family place if you go earlier in the evening.

Seemed to be understaffed but the waitresses offered no apologies for the long delays. Thankfully we were in no hurry. Food was ok. Seemed to be typical bar food. $2 to add fries or side to a sandwich seems a bit odd. Beer was cold.

About Taco Bell

Taco Bell is a haven for Mexican delicacies such as tacos, quesadillas, burritos, nachos, and other specialty items. Owned by Yum! Brands, Inc. Taco Bell is one of the fastest growing American chains of fast food restaurants. The restaurant operates from 7,072 different locations which are mostly run by independent franchisees and licensees.

The background story of Taco Bell is interesting and inspiring for budding entrepreneurs. The fast-food brand is the brainchild of Glen Bell, who started his first food venture as a hot dog seller in San Bernardino, California. The year was 1948. After witnessing long queues outside a Mexican restaurant called Mitla Café across the street, Bell saw the opportunity and demand for hard-shelled Tacos. He reverse-engineered the recipe and later started selling Tacos and called the venture Taco-Tia.

Later, the name changed from Taco-Tia to El Taco. Eventually, Glen Bell sold the company to his partner and opened the first Taco Bell in Downey in 1962. By 1964, the restaurant also got its first franchise in Torrance. The 100th Taco Bell restaurant was opened by 1965. PepsiCo acquired Taco Bell from Glen Bell in 1978 and the restaurant brand is currently a subsidiary of Yum! Brands which looks after the restaurant business of PepsiCo.
