Ok so the strip mall is unattractive, the ambiance, well it's not that hot. The service is okay, but the owner is great and the food is really really good. They lose a little on the decor and Inconsistent service.

Very pleasant surprise in a nondescript cluster of strip malls that are anchored by a large Kroger grocery. Enter Sakura and immediately turn right through a curtained doorway then left into a moderately small room with a handful of tables and a sushi bar where you can watch a master chef at work. Starters; Harumaki...a flavorful Japanese Vegetable Spring Rolls unlike most relatively bland Spring rolls that need Duck Sauce. This had subtle flavors that were delicious and intriguing. Crunchy Crab Roll with spicy sauce and the Spicy Tuna Roll both deliver on flavor and distinct textures from crunchy to creamy. Mild spice. Cashew Chicken. Flavor profile was relatively plain and the dish a bit too wet (with no serving spoon to dish out for sharing.) Need to try some other Thai dishes to provide accurate rating...and I will ... be back soon. Service...super courteous and almost too attentive. This restaurant is an example of "Asia meets Southern Hospitality" with great results.

The food was ok , the price for take out At 15.50. Wasn't worth the trip. U can get the same amount at bamboo s . had to wait for manager and cashier to figure out why register was short before I could order at a different register. Not happy.

Sakura is my favorite Japanese restaurant in middle TN! Sushi is excellent, especially the sweet potato rolls! I have never gotten anything less than delicious from here. Love the friendly staff, and they are a pleasure to do business with!

I enjoyed the sushi there very much. I eat here most Fridays and sometimes on Mondays. Typically I will have crunchy shrimp, shrimp tempura and the rock 'n roll. The lunch special, the chicken rice bowl is good and very affordable. The owner and staff are friendly. Give them a try I'm sure you will enjoy.

Who knew there was a great sushi place in Franklin? This place has a sort of hole-in-the-wall vibe....home-y and comfortable. We ordered a glass of wine & beer (typical) and appreciated the choices & prices. We ordered the age-dashi tofu which was good. They cut the tofu into large squares, but I prefer cubes. More crispy stuff.:) But still good. We also tried the fried calamari which was nice & crispy with a good texture (not chewy). The sushi here is really good too. Every roll we had was very pretty, and all the seafood tasted fresh. My favorite was the JJ Roll, which we joked & called it the "Wavy Gravy" roll because it was very colorful - sort of tie-dye. I really wish there was some sort of background noise....like music, or a TV. However, what this place lacks in atmosphere, it makes up for in service and food. We'll certainly come back.

A Japanese restaurant that's not a chain in Franklin? I admit, my expectations were low. I was pleasantly surprised by a diverse menu that pleased the globe trotter in me and also my not as adventurous yet still curious mom. I ordered the chef's choice Sushi Dinner, knowing that this would be a good gauge for the rest of the sushi menu. My mom ordered sesame chicken and shrimp from the hibachi grill. The chef gave me a nice array of nigiri, salmon roe, and a tuna roll. The tuna maki (roll) was a B+, but I would have preferred a spicy tuna maki come with the dinner. The nigiri were wonderful (A+), and the best surprise was toro (fatty tuna). Yum. My mom loved her shrimp and chicken, which came in a large portion for a great price. The service was attentive and there was no wait for a table on a this weekday evening. I'll return and next time I'll try some desert too.

While the employees are very friendly, the food just flat out sucks. I ordered chicken fried rice... Had been sick all day and thought it would be a safe bet. Not so. I don't know how its possible to mess up fried rice, but with the chemically and extremely bland flavor, they did. So sad. I remember this place used to be decent.

Obviously the employees who work at Sakura wrote the reviews because this place is absolutely DISGUSTING. I went with a friend and first of all our meal was 50$ and I'd rather eat my own sh*t than their food. We got sick and demanded our money back and they just argued and yelled. The man chased me out the door after I brought a doctors note about my food poisening from their NASTY AS* sushi and food. It's so dirty and HORRIBLE. I am so offended and appalled at their staff for disrespecting me as a customer and person. It's horrible. It ruined sushi for me. Rotten people, rotten place. I can't even describe my hatred for Sakura.

I had the Spicy Noodleand Chicken lunch combo that came with miso soup for $6.95, and an added eggroll for $1.25. I really enjoyed the rice noodles and it was a very flavorful and bountiful dish except for the eggroll which was small and disappointing for it being $1.25. The young lady working was very pleasant and made sure I had everything I needed. I am so excited to try more items from the menu like the Red Curry and some sushi. I recommend this place to everyone!

Horrible horrible foods good but when you sit there and don't get service for a hour you wouldn't be happy either . seriously do not go here if you want shit service

Seriously the best sushi in Nashville - fresh, made so you can see, really really awesome. Prices are great too, we go there often! The only complaint is that the few (2 or 3) times we have ordered for pick-up, they have over-charged us (and they don't list an itemized receipt) so we have had to be careful with that. We haven't found anywhere better so we keep going back, haha.

My fiance and I recently went out to dinner with two of our friends that were moving away. They were regulars at Sakura, so they recommended it to us. We had been wanting to try this place for awhile, so we met up with them for dinner. I tried the yellowtail roll, crunchy crab roll, gyoza, miso soup, salad, and fried rice. The gyoza was so tasty that it left me wanting more. I also enjoyed their soup and their salad, which had a different tasting ginger dressing that I really liked. Their fried rice was also good as well. I liked that the staff paid attention to people with food allergies...I am allergic to corn, so they made sure to take good care of my food so that I wouldn't have any reactions to it. The rolls were delicious...what I really liked was how big the portions were. The rolls were so big that I could order one and be full after it. Their crunchy crab roll had a sauce on it that was a little spicy, but not too hot so that I was able to enjoy it. The owners of the restaurant were so friendly and charming. Our friends knew them well, so thanks to that we also received sweet potato tempura on the house. :) i hope to go back soon and try some more of their food!

After reading other reviews, I see that this place is hit or miss. I kinda fell in-between when I stopped for some sushi to-go. The guy on the phone - an American - was really nice and recommended some delicious sushi rolls. When I went to pick up the order, the sushi chef was finishing up my order. And that's when things went downhill as I saw him eat something off the bar as he finished my food. Gross. The sushi itself wasn't bad. Not the best, but not bad. The Angel Hair roll and the Dinosaur were both pretty good. For the price, it wasn't bad. After seeing what I saw and reading reviews about old fish, I'm not sure if I'll be back.

Love this little place! The owners are super friendly when we come in, and the sushi is fresh and reasonably priced. This is not a high-end sushi restaurant; it's quaint and the food is fresh and flavorful, which to me are the most important qualities of a sushi restaurant.

My husband and I had fled the Atlanta snow storm and headed to Nashville area to take refuge with our two pups in a hotel until the big Peach thawed out. Being from Atlanta we are avid sushi addicts so we were hoping to find a local spot with good sushi and reasonable prices. That is exactly what we found at this delightful restaurant. They had a selection if three different cold sakes which is what we prefer. The sashimi dinner, two specialty rolls, squid salad and seaweed salad were all delicious and certainly satisfied our hunger ! Next time we are in Nashville this will be our sushi spot!

For some time now my fiancé and I have been searching for a truly delicious sushi in Franklin, as driving out of our way after she gets off work to get really good sushi can be a pain. About a year ago we first heard about this place and tried visiting on a Sunday; big mistake, they were closed. However, we finally tried them earlier this week when some friends of ours invited us to join them for dinner there. Turns out not only was this the place they had been telling us about for ages, but it was also where our friend Josh worked before he married his now wife Carolyn. This restaurant had also catered their wedding (though given the circumstances this may have been a unique case), and it is not hard to see why. They are absolutely delicious! I had the sushi/sashimi combo which was so good it just melted in my mouth. My fiancé had several rolls, and though they were a little big, they were so flavorful! Of particular note, was the Octopus sashimi on my plate. It was perfectly flavored with lemon and just so good. With the sushi came both a house salad and miso soup like at many sushi restaurants. However, unlike other sushi restaurants the miso soup had a unique and comforting flavor to it that made it obvious that it was not from a mix, but homemade and very good. As for the ginger dressing on the salad, it was not like the others we had before as it was sweeter and had a slight kick to it, also definitely homemade. As our hosts knew the owners we also got some tempura sweet potato on the house that was fried perfectly. I have absolutely no complaints about this place. They are really good and the husband and wife that own and operate the place are really nice. I hope to return soon to try more of their delicious food and partake of their top notch hospitality.

First timers tonight! Sushi was fresh and very tasty. Pad tai was very good as well. The service was excellent. Another great little find in Franklin! We'll be back.

I enjoy sushi and i have dined at this place several times (2009) primarily because it was close to me and the prices were very affordable. They also have great lunch specials. It is a hole in the wall place, with ok decor and ambience. The food.....particularly the sushi is a hit or a miss. I've had sashimi that tasted way too fishy, not properly thawed and simply just didnot cut it from a freshness standpoint (which is very critical for sashimi lovers). Sometimes, i luck out and it turns out to be fresh. I do get tummy aches after wards on several occasions. So stay away from the sashimi or raw rolls -- i suspect this is probably because they do not have the high volume to keep an adequate supply of fresh fish coming in on a daily basis. I've also tried their teriyaki dishes --generous in proportion but way too salty. (and i love salty dishes...this was too much) The staff is very friendly, since it is owned and run by a couple. They do a great job of remembering their customers. But all in all, when it comes to sushi, I can find better.

Today for lunch, I was craving sushi. Typically I'd drive into the Cool Springs area and hit up a fave spot, but today, I didn't feel like battling the traffic. I headed North to the borderline seedy/uppity side of Franklin to hit up Sakura. Typically, they aren't that bad. The place opens at 11, so there's never a crowd when I get there. Today there were about seven people inside and I was surprised. The place feels secluded, but it's not. Holed up between a Thai place, The Pond and a cheap video rental store- it tends to not look inviting, but I've eaten at worse. The inside of the resturant is somewhat dark, the only light coming from the front door which is hidden by a Japanese cloth of sorts. The crew is somewhat friendly, but not overly so. Usually everything is cool- Until today that is. I ordered a Spider Roll and your typical "Oh look! I'm a fancy American eating sushi" (which translates to Crunchy crab roll) fare. That's all- nothing extravagant. I just wanted to get my sushi on and eliminate the craving. Once at my desk, I start to devour the sushi. I don't usually wolf my food down, especially sushi (nothing like having a bit of seaweed hung in your throat to make you realize you aren't ready to die yet). As I was finishing up, I had one piece of the Spider Roll left. I knew, just KNEW as soon as I put it in my mouth I was going to have an issue. There was an overwhelming fish smell and it tasted warm and gummy. Instead of spitting it out, I involuntarily swallowed the roll and knew I'd regret it. I then barfed it up thirty minutes later. Sakura usually doesn't disappoint, even on the few occasion's I've gone there. But to me, when you barf up a resturant's sushi, that should be your sign to not go back. Sorry Sakura, I can't do it. I just can't barf up anymore rice and bits of crab.

I probably go to Sakura 3-5 times a month. I have been a regular customer there for about 6 years, through several ownership changes. It helps that I can walk there, but I would pass lots of popular sushi places to eat here, if I had to. The current owners, Janice and Jun, are wonderful. Exceptionally friendly, and always honest about what's fresh and giving samples of things they think I might like. I don't particularly like the interior of the restaurant, and they are always playing mid-90's rock (the same blues traveler song plays EVERY time I'm there) but it's clean and nice enough. They have the typical fare - altho their miso soup and their squid and seaweed salads are definitely higher quality than previous tenants (and most sushi places in Nashville) - and a noodle/bento/etc. menu, which I have basically ignored. My favorite specialty roll is the Sweetheart - it's ten pieces of tuna, salmon, and avocado with tempura crunchies, wrapped in soy paper and shaped into five hearts. Comes with 2 kinds of sauce. They also have some vegetarian choices, and my fav yummy sweet potato roll. Tip: If ordering take-out, go in to order and let them pick some special things for you - then go next door to the Pond for a drink, or across the parking lot to rummage in the Goodwill. If you pay cash, they take 5% off your total. They also have a pretty great lunch special. I want this place to stay in business, so please go!

We eat there more often than any other Asian cuisine restaurant. The owners make this a personable Mom & Pop establishment with authenticity. They are friendly, and if you go more than a couple of times, they will remember you. The Sushi we had on our last visit was really good; better than the other place we sometimes go in Franklin. And the Hibachi dishes (a vegetable plate for my wife, and shrimp for me) were tasty, satisfying, and so generous, that we had a couple of more meals out of leftovers. Decor is not its strong point, but that isn't unusual in small Asian restaurants. And we didn't go there for the scenery - we were hungry. But we weren't when we left. The sushi dinner ensembles are a great deal, but you may want to share. Our rating? Ichiban ("number one" in Japanese)
