I brought my family to Newks on Saturday 3/7/15 for a late lunch. I was very disappointed in how dirty the tables, floor and general dining area was. I witnessed the buser NOT wash the tables. The manager walked by the messy table next to us that had water on the floor, kids high chairs with no kids and food crumbs everywhere. Didnt even stop. At one time there were 5 dirty tables next to us. This was 3pm! Not lunch rush hour. The food was good but I'm always concerned if they keep the dining area dirty what's the kitchen like? That's too bad because the food was good.

If I were to guess, I'd say that the competition for this place would include Jason's Deli, Panera, and the like. My shrimp po boy was quite good. I think there was olive oil on top and that definitely enhanced the flavor. The black bean soup was also quite good and there was a fair amount of it. My major complaint would be the price. If I can't get out of a place with a basic combo and a drink for less than $10, that place might not be for me. It definitely fits into the neighborhood, but many Davidsonians wouldn't spend what they want.

I came here for lunch recently and the place was absolutely packed. However, the service was friendly, fast and the food was good. I ordered the grilled steak sandwich which was thinly sliced beef, caramelized onions, provolone cheese and homemade horseradish sauce. It was served on French Parisienne bread. I also ordered the tomato basil soup. The steak was extremely dry, but that may be due to the fact that I asked for no sauce. Still, it was absurdly dry. The only thing that saved the sandwich was the delicious bread which was both crispy and soft. However, if my favorite aspect of a sandwich is the bread then something is missing. The soup, on the other hand, was incredible. It was creamy, hearty, thick and flavorful. I would honestly go back just for that soup. Overall, I would consider Newk's to be an upscale fast food restaurant dishing out legitimate food. I would say it probably deserves 4 stars because the steak situation may have been an anomaly, but that will be determined when I return in the near future.

This little lunch spot in Cool Springs with the weird name has some great toasted sandwiches and their soups are always good. Stopped in today with a client to discuss her real estate options and we both got half sandwich and soup. I ordered the new white bean and kale soup and I was pleasantly surprised. It had a little bit of spice and sweetness all mixed together. The service is always quick and the staff always friendly. If you are looking for something different for lunch, check this place out. You will be glad you did.

First time here for me. My wife had eaten here before and suggested it for lunch, because of the variety. We both got salads for healthy options. I must say that I am very disappointed. The salads had wonderful ingredients, but they drowned the salads in way too much dressing. Totally ruined it. I won't be back.

I have never had anything I did not care for here... I am admittedly a "stick to something you find and love" type of diner so I have only tried a handful of menu items that deviate from my favorite: BLACK AND BLEU SALAD (sooo good!) Great roast beef slices, gorgonzola cheese crumble/shreds, pecans, purple onion, pear tomatoes and excellent house bleu cheese dressing--incidentally, if you cannot imagine from description this is a fairly pungent dish and certainly not a first-date meal (depending on intentions I suppose...lol) the soups are awesome, if you're into bread theirs is fresh baked and delicious on the many sandwiches they serve, the kids meals are nifty (i've ordered for a light lunch once or twice... shhh) place can be a zoo at lunch hour since Vanderbilt Medical extension Dr. offices are all around area, so do order ahead if you're in a hurry or take advantage of "grab and go" pre-made corner, cakes are super yummy and definitely fresh daily... Really if you're in mood for somewhere with offerings similar to Panera this place is FAR SUPERIOR and much much fresher.

Newks is always a fun place to go for a casual lunch or dinner. They have a wide variety of meals that will please just about anyone's appetite. Their portions are large so even the hungriest man should be satisfied. My favorite sandwich is the Newk's Q which is a toasted baguette with a spicy white barbecue sauce and shredded chicken. So good! Their salads are pretty great as well. The black and bleu is my go to. I'm a HUGE fan of their sweet tea as you can get sweetened tea with splenda! They give you a fun to go cup too! I haven't ever tried their pizza, but from what I have heard they are pretty standard, nothing special but overall taste great. They always have a few cakes or sweet treats to try. My favorites are the peanut butter and chocolate rice krispie treat and the strawberry cake YUM! The restaurants themselves are pretty much the same from location to location. Always clean and a spacious feel.

I ordered the Caesar side salad with Mediterranean pizza. DELISH!! I will definately go back if I am hungry and in the area. The pizza was cooked perfectly and not too greasy. They always give a huge cup to drink out of that is reusable. I especially like the condiment bar. Filled with anything you could need to compliment your order. This location was very clean as well

I'm so wishing I could give this place one more star 4 on food....or take one away! (2 on cleanliness). The food was great, fresh, and tasty. The Resturant was lacking in the overall cleanliness department. We had to search out an acceptably clean table without food debris or sticky cup ring on it. This was accomplished after looking at 7/8 tables. The next issue was the cloth covered chairs. Holy moly batman they were stained and down right DIRTY. my husband finally just placed several layers of napkins on the chairs to make them at least seem cleaner. At the end of the meal he stated, "For me, this is a one and done." This is too bad as the food was excellent.

Decent food. Good service. My half sandwich (steak) was good. My bisque was a little shallow but had some good creaminess. My wife enjoyed the Cobb salad.

I've been to Newk's a few times, but it has always been for carry-out. The food is very good and I prefer them the Jason's Deli and McAllister's. I've had a sandwich each time I've been. They've all been very good. The bread is excellent and they have quality ingredients. During my last visit, my wife got soup and she said it was also very good. The mac-n-cheese is awesome--definitely get it! It appeared to me that they also serve beer, which is unique for a soup and sandwich place. However, you can exactly take advantage of that for a to-go order.... Nazi laws. The only reason I don't have Newk's as a 5 is because of the wait and price. Neither is terrible, but they are on the long end of 'reasonable'. My last visit was a bowl of soup, a sandwich, two sides of mac-n-cheese, and no drinks for $20. That's not terrible, but it's certainly not cheap. You may be able to call ahead for a carry-out order, but I've just placed my order on arrival each time. It does take a few minutes to prepare the meal (so you have time to play Words With Friends or do your Yelp check-in). It's not that bad though. Overall, I've enjoyed eating here. It's a good spot and the food is very well prepared. I'll be back.

The salads are fresh and the menu is generally healthy. The service for people with food allergies is inconsistent. Our first visit was very positive....the manager knew his ingredients and he worked with me to make sure the food they served was safe. The second visit was much less positive...the manager was unsure and we left. The third visit was so-so....I was not confident eating the food delivered. Since 3% of the population has serious food allergies, and since they offer such a fresh menu, they're missing an opportunity.

Solid choice for soup and salad or a sandwich, but there hasn't been anything to blow me away here. Soups are the best thing about this place. They also have solid mac n cheese. There is nothing special about their salads though. My husband will often grab us a quick light dinner to go and bring it home. Does the trick.

This place gets good buzz, but I'm not sure what all the hype is about. It's "OK." Certainly nothing to write home about, but nothing to really knock it for, either. It's just average. The pizza was OK. Not sure I'd go again when there are so many more distinctive places nearby.

Really enjoyed their half sandwich and half salad. Got the club which was like a warm panini with mayo and mustard. The salad was already mixed with dressing and quite tasty.

Newk's was great! Went here for lunch after church one day and I was pleased with the variety on the menu. There was sandwiches, pizzas, salads and soups. You order up front and have a seat, they'll bring the food out to you. I had the chicken tortilla soup- it was so meaty and fresh and savory. Plenty of meat and veggies made it so delicious. I also had the club sandwich- it was toasted and was very fresh and I loved the honey mustard. So savory! For a quick, delicious, filling meal- Newk's is definitely recommended.

Definitely a restaurant for females. If you're here to find a female. You're in luck. If you're here to find a bomb ass sandwich, go elsewhere. Identical to any Panera/Corner Bakery. Not bad, but nothing special.

I like Newk's - they're somewhere between fast food and a more formal dine-in restaurant. Their sandwiches are good, but their pizzas are even better. It's definitely a great spot to go when you're looking for something better than fast food. Good food and fast - so you can have a good lunch and have time to get back to work, or get about your business.

I really love the pasta salad alo..yummo......Ido believe this is one of the best deli type restaurants i have ever been to...I read in one review that this place is quiet and I disagree---it is always buzzin with noise at this location....

The place to go for fresh, awesome salads. Been there four times now and haven't gotten past the salads!! They do have many items on their menu, which I do intend to try. The people are friendly and the environment is casual, yet entirely professional. Love Newks.

I was a little hesitant to try Newk's at first since I had never heard of them, but my fiance insisted that their food was good. We went here for dinner one day and the place was packed, but we were still able to find a good table. The service was excellent and their staff was awesome. I was pretty hungry, so I tried their large portion of their grilled chicken salad. I wasn't expecting the chicken to be chopped up in little pieces, but it was still delicious. I wish that they didn't put the dressing on themselves, but I didn't mind it. I also enjoyed how fresh the salad was. My fiance had a roast beef salad and lobster bisque, which I had never heard of before. I took a sip of the bisque and it was great! Nothing like what I had expected it to be. I may have my own bowl sometime soon. I hope to come back in the future to try their sandwiches and maybe even their pizza! :)

Newk's has fantastic salads and sandwiches. Their salads are huge, usually enough for two meals. Their sandwiches are so delicious. The Italian is my favorite. They also have personal-sized pizzas. The Magherita pizza is lite and flavorful. Their mac and cheese is exceptional. They also serve bottled beer (and wine I think).

I had the pleasure of falling into eating here on a random weekend when I was visiting the area. OMG!!! This place is awesome! I can't believe they don't have one anywhere close to where I live in NC. First of all, amazing food choices from sammys, soups, pizza, salads. The portions are huge and awesome which is uncommon for a lunch place. They had a bunch of different options- everyone will find something they like. There is this great condiment bar in the middle of the restaurant so you can perfect your meal to your liking. I had the pesto chicken sandwich with pasta salad. Also tried the steak sandwich and greek salad. This place is like 100x better than Panera- even a better atmosphere and decorations. If I lived here I would be here all the time. Good stuff!

So, I finally went to my wife's favorite restaurant since moving to Nashville Newk's. The first thing I thought of when she told me the name of this place I was going to a restaurant that cooked everything in a microwave. Because, when I worked in kitchens we call all over microwaves nukes. We went on Sunday about lunch and as one of the previous review said, with everyone in Brentwood and Franklin there. For a fast casual restaurant there trying to cut their own space somewhere between Panera and Jason's Deli. I had a half sandwich and soup I found my half Italian sandwich to be a little alike Which Wich, except miniaturized (way to same for the price). The chicken tortilla soup had grate full flavor. Except for the gazillion people that were there to watch us eat, I very much enjoyed the experience. I'll be back to try the mac & cheese. Check for two before tip $21.19.

Today's visit to Newk's for lunch with hubby had the potential to be four stars, but alas - it was not. First of all, this place is large and I think every resident of Franklin, especially those with small children, choose noon today (Labor Day) to visit. Crowded, yes. Loud, very much so. Have to wait in line for small children to be indecisive and need to be lifted up to fix their drinks, yes - more than once. (Please note I am a great aunt, and a neighbor that absolutely loves the small children around. This is a child friendly restaurant, so I get it... but when there are lines everywhere - that is not the time for little Suzy to take 3 minutes to decide on Sprite. And I'm not exaggerating). The crowded factor, and the tables being just slighter closer together than I would prefer, and nothing whatsoever to absorb any sound had me admittedly starting off not very happy. We had to weave through chairs and scooch along to get to our table, and that never starts me off on a positive note. The group of four right behind me (I felt like I was in the guy's lap) was LOUDLY discussing polics, so there's another factor that I'm not thrilled about. Our lunch arrived quickly, and looked really very good upon presentation. Also note that Newk's has a significant condiment bar in the center, so if you needed hot sauce, salt, pickles, breadsticks, evidently everything except the kitchen sink - you could weave in and out from your table to go get it. I ordered a half sandwich and half salad, hubby got the club with chips. Hubby is very pleased with his club, his review would probably be 4 or 5 stars. My half sandiwch was their homemade pimento cheese, which I was hesitant to order. I am, admittedly, a spice wimp, and sometimes people feel the need to put jalapeno in pimento cheese. Their menu mentioned nothing of spicy, hot, etc. - so I tenatively gave it a try, saying to myself that if it was hot, I would enjoy my half salad and be fine. The pimento cheese was not hot, very "melty" and kind of flowing all over the place, but good. It was quite rich, and I dare say I don't know too many people that could eat a whole one of these without stomach troubles. The salad looked great - I ordered the "Simply" which was mixed greens, romas, cheese, and croutons, with honey mustard. The order girl had asked if I wanted the dressing mixed throughout or on the side, and I thought what could be wrong? It's honey mustard... so mix, please. Wrong choice. Very wrong. Hot, spicy hot, honey mustard. I take a bite or two, and think this can't be... have hubby taste, and he agrees, it has an aftertaste kick that it most unpleasant. I'm totally bummed, because I have this chilled bowl with otherwise a great accompaniment to my hot, melty sandwich - and I can't eat it. The thought of weaving in and out again to correct my salad has me less than enthused... had already had to do the table weaving dance twice because when you order water they give you the tiny child size clear cups (I hate that, too!), and I just wasn't in the mood. As hubby was finishing, a busboy walked by and hubby asked if there was wasabi in the honey mustard or something - and the busboy went to check. He came back reporting they had no wasabi (I presume in the loudness he thought we were asking for wasabi), and then another older worker stopped by as well. He explained that about 4-5 times a month someone complains about the spiciness of the honey mustard, that they use cayenne pepper. He loves it. I do not, I tell him. Call me crazy, but if 4-5 people per month complain... then how many others do you think don't complain, but are unhappy? If you're going to have something as innocent as honey mustard dressing be spicy, then YOU SHOULD TELL PEOPLE. The busboy and the older worker both offered to have a replacement salad done for me, but I don't know about you... when the moment is gone, it's gone. I don't want my sandwich to be gone, hubby to be finished or almost finished, then my salad come. It's like have to send back a steak, you know they will - but how much better if they just get it right the first time? The older worker explained that his own mother can't eat their honey mustard, and then he kept repeating all the other things on the menu that she has to avoid. Things that read "spicy mustard," "remoulade," and "zing_____" - those of us that are spice-averse know to look for that. We read descriptions, pay attention, and ask questions. But if you doon't tell us and just choose to surprise with off-the-wall "norms," well - I won't say we won't be back, because hubby was very pleased. But it won't be at a rush hour time for toddlers, and you better hope you are not behind me in line, because I'm going to ask questions about every single thing I'm considering.

Good food, good variety, good atmosphere and friendly staff. Great for lunch, or whenever the weather is cold and you are craving a nice sandwich/soup combo. I would pick Newks over Panera's any day. It's a meal that generates a satisfying oompf.

I had driven by Newk's probably 50 times and never once had any part of me go, "Hey, let's go to Newk's!" Also, saying a sentence that sounds like, "Let's get some nukes!" generally gets you put on some sort of watchlist. All that changed when a friend directed me there for dinner one night. My first thought at seeing the menu was that it looked like a fancy McAllister's. My suspicions were confirmed when I googled and found that the restaurant was founded by McAllister's founders. I've now been twice and have tried the "Royal Club" twice: salami, ham, turkey, roast beef, Swiss cheese, mayo, spicy Creole mustard, lettuce and tomato on a warm roll. I've ordered those as halves with two different soups: red beans and rice and "ultimate crab". The red beans and rice was actually soupy - I admit I somewhat expected the dish, but I got exactly what I ordered, a soup. The ultimate crab was absolutely delectable - it was a delicious, crabby chowder. That's right - crabby. They also have a nice little stand with condiments, breadsticks and hot sauces. I took plenty of each. I should also note that the first trip was a to-go order, the second was a dine-in. Both were flawless...although you appear to get more soup when you dine-in.

So for my second trip to Newk's, my fiance and I went to the Cool Springs location. While noticeably smaller than the Belle Meade restaurant, that was the only difference. The food, once again was amazing and delicious. My fiance had a salad, which came in a huge portion size, while I had, again, a roast beef sandwich and this time a cup of lobster bisque. Again stuffing my sandwich (this time a whole one) with condiments from the condiment table, it was absolutely delicious. As for the soup, I rarely got to have lobster bisque growing up as it was only available at really nice restaurants, and I grew up in Houston! As for this lobster bisque, I expected it to lack lobster as Newk's is not fine dining. However, I was pleasantly surprised to find plenty delicious chunks of lobster meat in the soup, and I wish I had ordered a bowl. My fiance, who had never had lobster bisque before tried some and also found it very tasty. I think we are now both hooked on Newk's.

I went in to Newk's unaware of what to expect. My wife and I were looking for a quick lunch that would be healthy and delicious. Since a friend had suggested that I try Newk's we thought we'd give it a shot. When you enter Newk's, you are standing in front of an order counter with the menu located to your immediate left on a wall. They have a decent assortment of soups, salads, sandwiches, and pizza to choose from. My wife and I both decided to go with the half salad and half sandwich option. You approach the counter, place your order, pay, and then you receive a plastic card with a number on it. We seated ourselves in the dining area and shortly after, our food was delivered by one of the many employees. There is a self-serve station in the middle of the restaurant where you can get jalapeño peppers, croutons, cheese, pickles, and breadsticks. The drinks are also self-serve. The food was delicious. I was especially impressed with the sandwich. Everything seemed to be fresh and pretty good quality. The serving size was just right. I left feeling content. I'll probably be back in the future.

You know what Cool Springs needs? A restaurant. What a genius idea to open a new place in the midst of strip mall central. Inspite of a sign that looks like it was drawn by a 7 YO who stole a TGIFridays awning, this place is really quite the standout. With crazy fast service, reasonable prices and a menu that will please even the most persnickity of kiddies and their tired parents, this place is worth stopping at for lunch. You can score a good small caesar salad for under $4, your 'own' pizza for $8 (please save some for lunch or have a good weight management plan in place) or hot sandwiches that are generously sized. Setting this place apart from the mass of other dining options is reasonable prices, solid to very good fare and services that is so freaking fast that there's a reasonable possibility that they are running a meth lab out of the back. I really hope they aren't though, because I want them to stay in business. On the minus side is the sad thought that clearly they wouldn't spring for a much needed graphic artist for their ghetto-esque sign and menu and a paucity of desserts. Overall, go there if only to watch people sprint through cooking at breakneck speeds.

I've been here about 4 times and have yet to be disappointed in anything I've had...and that's with different meals every time. Just a little pricey for lunch but very good if you want to treat yourself to something better than the traditional lunch. Portions on salads and some plates are huge. Definitely a keeper.

Newk's is one of those great places to take the family as there is something for everyone. The service and atmosphere is good and the food is good as well. I use the word 'good' intentionally as I have been there many times and nothing made me say wow I want to come back get that again. Great place to get a good lunch but don't expect to be wowed with the food.

Busy parking lot, but the food is great and the prices are not bad either! Everything is fresh. I've eaten twice and got a sandwich the first time and a salad the second time and they were both excellent. The parking is the only downside, but it's the norm here in Cool Springs during the lunch rush!
