Overall, great food. The only downside is that there is a lot of flies swarming in there.

I struggled with my decision on whether to give Henpeck one star or two. In the end, I decided that their yummy desserts earn them an extra star. I have been to Henpeck several times with a friend from work. It operates under the guise of an old-timey country store like you still find in small towns all over Tennessee. Following the tried and true combination grocery store, cafe and convenience store found in such quaint mom-n-pop spots, it does have a certain charm. There's an area selling knick-knacks and local goods, a few shelves of grocery items, coolers full of soft drinks, etc, a deli counter featuring hot lunches, sandwiches, and elaborate desserts, and several wooden tables for "enjoying" your food. Unfortunately, the charm and quaintness are just skin-deep. Let's start with the staff. While some of the counter people and cashiers have been decently polite, I have had a few that were either cool, snobby, or just downright rude. As for the food, I have had the meat-n-two twice, a couple of sandwiches, and a few of the desserts. The sweets are as good as they look. Rich, decadent and delicious. The meat-n-two was ok...I got fried chicken both times, with green beans and mashed potatoes. I've certainly had better, and the price was too high for what it was. The main reason I will NEVER go back is my last sandwich experience. I went in for lunch at about 12:15 on a weekday and ordered the fried chicken. They were out of everything but legs. Making more, I asked? No. (rudely answered). I checked out the sandiwch board, and the only thing that looked appealing was a chicken flatbread panini, at about $9. Does anything come with that? No (again, very short, rude reply). I ordered it anyway. When it was served up, it was the most disgusting thing I have ever had served to me. The whole thing, chicken and all, was about 1/2" thick. It was DRIPPING with grease. There was a total of about 2oz. of grilled chicken on it, and 2 limp, tiny pieces of arugula or some other dark green. I ate one bite and took it back to the counter, along with the ticket. I very rarely will return food. If I don't like something I'll usually just not eat it, pay my bill and not return. But I could not bring myself to pay $9 for this nasty grease bomb. The ladies behind the counter looked at me like I had just puked on the counter when I told them it was unacceptable. I walked out, never to return. I went directly to Kroger, bought a whole rotisserie chicken, loaf of Italian bread, cheese and chips, all for the same $9, and fed my coworkers as well. If you must go this snobby, overpriced place, stick to the desserts. Or better yet, head to Puckett's or one of the more deserving small, locally owned eateries that abound in our area.

Henpeck Market is such a great place to hang out. They were really busy yesterday so the wait was a little long. But no points off for that. Our waitress was fantastic and entertaining. But since I'm reviewing a restaurant, the food is the most important thing. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger, medium rare, with sweet potato fries. Everything tastes good, but they forgot the bacon, the burger was well done and cold, and the fries were cold. Disappointing, because I love this place.

Too expensive for mediocre food and minuscule servings. $30.00 for 2 meatloaf and 1 catfish take out is away too expensive

My family loves this place, the kids can be kids and play and have a good time, the food is just good ole home style with a nice flare to spice it up. We go at least once a week and recommend it to our friends all the time.

Picture Cracker Barrel, with a real personal touch. Biscuits COULD be done better...seemed to be "mass produced" in a place that they ought to appear to be "hand made".

I was intrigued by the outside looks of it and later went on their website to look at pictures before planning to check it out the next day. It all looked so darling on the back patio. Well, when I went the next day I was sorely let down. First of all I hate when restaurants have bacon and eggs or breakfast on the menu but refuse to make those foods after a certain time a day. Personally I love breakfast food and could eat breakfast for dinner anyday. I know they still have those ingredients in the kitchen after 10:30 and refusing to make them is unreasonable. For lunch I had chicken salad over mixed greens. That scoop of chicken salad was so tightly blended up I could barely spread it out over the greens, like it had been in a food processor for an hour. It was almost sticky. Gag. After lunch I ventured out to see the back patio I had seen online. The pasture out behind it was lovely and the tables seemed ok, but the cushioned patio furniture was full of cob webs and dirty with the cushions a mess. I wouldn't have sat on those couches if you paid me. That really grossed me out and made me sad. What could have been a comfortable place to lounge with a drink was uncared for and dirty. Also my waitress was not friendly at all. What a let down. Clean your patio furniture people I mean GROSS.

Sunday brunch and vegetarians? Yes. They have salad, fruit, brussel sprouts, rolls, potatoes, mac and cheese. Veggies can get their money's worth. Opens at 10 sunday.

Got food poisoning from their breakfast buffet. 4th day of being anchored to our toilet. To spite better judgement, we did the breakfast buffet the other morning. The food literally looked like it was over a day old. My 8yr old song picked up a biscuit and it was rock solid. The eggs had a hard crusty film over them. We decided to just stick to the bacon and french toast. Most of the bacon was not fully cooked. Didn't look much different than straight out of the package. We have really enjoyed their lunches. Their burgers and sandwiches are great. Really surprised at how bad the breakfast buffet was. If was a manager, I would flip out over the way it's take care of. Should only have the freshest of food. Make sure things are cooked. Only reason we stayed was because we had good luck with their lunch menu items in the past. We will never return, ever.

Awesome! I got the Valentine's Day meal for my wife and me. $35 for soup, salad or app + choice of steak, chicken, or salmon with sides + 2 desserts. Killer deal and really good food.

Leaving my second negative review. 1. For removing my review from yelp entirely bc apparently they didn't like what I had to say. 2. To make people aware to avoid their breakfast buffet unless you want food poisoning for 4 days like my husband and I experienced. Their regular food is decent, but two thumbs down for their breakfast buffet. I'll go to Cracker Barrel next time.

Uh oh! They serve (bad) prepackaged spinach artichoke dip here. There's almost nothing worse than knowing your meal was assembled from packaged food by someone no more talented than yourself for any money. Don't waste time on breakfast or dinner here. I don't know that it will last serving food like that.

We had avoided the "New" Henpeck for a while after new ownership a year ago and bad reviews, but decided to give it a shot and have had 2 good meals. The ribeye was very good, and tonight's shrimp and grits were excellent.

Oh no. I didn't know that Henpeck had been so terribly "updated" until today. I used to eat there from time to time, enjoying the rather wonderful (if over-priced) bacon pimento sandwiches and thoroughly decent desserts. I knew as soon as I came to the end of the street that something had happened, and I thought at first maybe they'd just gotten rid of the gas station part of the market. Well, if that was the only change, it would have been fine for me. Parking at the old version was always difficult and luck-of-the-draw. Now, along with a new interior comes a new purpose, and basically everything has been changed. All of the great desserts are gone. The local food is gone. The prices have, miraculously, actually gone UP (I guess to pay for the new interior?). The portions are smaller. The "market" aspect is basically just part of the name, now. I always had some reservations about the old Henpeck, mainly because I wasn't wealthy enough to afford to really enjoy myself there. If you had $15 to spend on lunch, you could get a really great meal, though. Now it will cost you that much for a mediocre meal that will leave you hungry and disappointed. No amount of "charming" "Southern" service can hide the fact that this has become a novelty restaurant with forgettable food and absurd prices. Maybe, just maybe, if it had sprung up on its own without any cultural memories attached to it, as a completely separate entity from the fondly remembered Henpeck Market, I would have given it another star. As it stands now, though, what we have is an insult to the memory of a worthwhile institution.

The Henpeck has really great food at affordable prices. I just ate there today with my family and we all had a wonderful experience. I had the catfish which comes with two sides and my wife had the chicken mashed potatoes and green beans. She says her food was well prepared and we enjoyed the service. Our sons had chicken tenders and french fries and the other one had onion rings with his tenders and they enjoyed them. We highly recommend you stop by and give them a try. They even have specials.

Since reopening in July 2011 under new ownership, the Henpeck Market has undergone a complete renovation, new menu and a much needed breakfast spot for the Franklin area. The interior cosmetic renovation is spectacular, but the outdoor patio is the place to be. Spacious, quiet and tranquil, with lights on the mature overhanging trees and a chicken coop nearby (where Henpeck harvests their own eggs). Fresh herbs and a lush garden surround it. The Sunday all-you-can-eat brunch is a bit on the unhealthy side, with mostly salty starches and no vegetables. Best bet is to bring a paper to read and sit on the patio, with a toasted bagel and cream cheese or a fresh Belgian waffle with fruit.

The thrill is gone. The remodel scrubbed away most of the charm (and the gas pumps). I went on a weekend morning on the way to the lake for gas (no longer available), couple of bacon and egg biscuits to go (nope, only a $8.95 buffet) and a bag of ice (no mas). I walked in and right out and didn't spend a dime. I really have no reason to return.

Revisited the new Henpeck Market today with some friends and it proved rather uneventful. While the inside renovation is supreme, the food is very lackluster. The previously gourmet menu has been replaced with a limited, unhealthy diner-feel one. If you are looking for unhealthy southern food with great service....this is the place to be.

Fantastic service as well as food! I will be back and with my entire family!!

Just had lunch today at the Henpeck Market on Lewisburg Pike, and in all likelihood will not return. My wife's chicken salad sandwich consisted of a generic chicken salad which was mediocre at best and like the pitiful cole slaw they served me was purchased in bulk from some supplier and not made anywhere near the restaurant. My pulled pork sandwich was okay at best, but the fries were yet another "We Buy in Bulk" product also not produced on site. The staff was semi-friendly, but we overheard one waitress saying, "I only serve the food, I don't make it." Another unappealing aspect were the numerous house flies positioned on the various tables to greet us when we entered and went to select a table. With as small as their menu is, they should be able to make their offerings fresh and not resort to buying generic crap and calling it their own food. We didn't try any of the pizzas, but thought it was an odd choice to make to serve these considering the folksy old-time country market flavor of the place. With as tough as the restaurant business is, especially in a place like Franklin, I don't hold out much hope for the Henpeck's future.

Who knew? With the reopening last week of the restaurant at Henpeck (Village) Market, a group of my masochistic friends decided to try out the revived restaurant its second day open. The service was abysmally slow, as one might expect of any restaurant on its second day, so we took advantage of the lack of sustenance to trot up the back stairs to The Loft at Henpeck Village Market. Again, I ask, who knew there were so many cute clothes and pieces of fun jewelry over the now empty market on the main floor? And shoes - oh, wow. Not many, mind you, but, boy, was the quality there! The rooms of the Shoppes each feature different items, like a gardening room with seeds, gardening tools, boots, and books. Another room features monogrammed stationery, napkins, tablecloths, and other items. Of course, it features the obligatory tourist t-shirts and tacky kitsch. But, by and large, the items in The Loft make driving in to Cool Springs a thing of the past for this country girl. Now, if they could just get the dining room right.... [sigh]
