This is my favorite place in Franklin, and probably all of Tennessee. In fact, I looked forward to coming here more than I did to my own house during all of college. This 'deli' is the perfect small-town-restaurant to cater to both locals and big-city-people (let's face it, lots of the locals used to be big-city people). I always come here when I am back in Franklin. Always. My favorite thing to order is the salad-scoop-trio. One scoop of tuna salad, one scoop of chicken salad, and one scoop of pimento and cheese. The salad scoop trio and I have had a long relationship, and we have toughed it through the 'too-dry-chicken-salad' era, the 'pimento & mayonnaise' months, and the 'funky-tuna' times, but I'm pleased to say, it's been perfected. I love this thing probably as much as I do our family dog. The three scoops come with little crackers to pile your scoop bites on, and mixed greens if you're feeling healthy. My little brother always gets the Annabelle: Honey smoked turkey, Swiss cheese, lettuce, tomato, pickles, mayo, & vinaigrette. When I say always, I mean, every single time he has come in. So I would recommend trying that as well. The whole family loves the fruit tea too, I'm not a fan, but it comes in a cute mason jar and they do free refills. The restaurant is right off of Main Street and is filled with cute mismatched tables and chairs along with several outdoor tables. Don't be surprised to see a few celebs here catching an incognito meal. Their best deal that I just saw yesterday: any bottle of wine on their menu (some are upwards at $36 on their own), two entrees, and a dessert for $30. It might as well be a fire sale. Try it before it's gone!

I would have loved to try the breakfast here, but unfortunately got there just a bit too late. I ordered the closest thing I could, a BLT and it was wonderful. The bread was a soft and squishy sourdough and instead of greasy butter or mayo, it was covered with a sun-dried tomato cream cheese. They also have my favorite southern beverage: fruit tea, with free refills, served in a mason jar. The lattes are also great and the staff was very friendly. We got there just before the lunch rush and I'm glad we did because at about 11:40, people were lining up all the way out of the doors. I didn't have enough room for dessert, but when I got there, they were putting the finishing touches on a trifle that looked deliciously homemade. The decor is totally shabby chic, and it actually really works in this location. The chairs and tables are all mismatched and very cute.

Come on. These reviews must be left by employees or something. Yes, the atmosphere is super charming. But the food is not even 'ok.' I had the pecan chicken salad, and saw maybe two or three pecans in the whole thing... it was just shredded chicken and mayo--- not flavorful at all. My boyfriend had the chicken wrap which was slightly better and the pasta salad which was covered in vinegar and he couldn't finish it. There's nothing special about this place and I would HIGHLY recommend going elsewhere.

Stopped in for a bite and so glad we did! The Annabelle sandwich (turkey, cheese, mayo, balsamic...) was wonderful combo with the tomato basil soup! Definitely stop in for breakfast, lunch or dinner. You won't be disappointed! *I've also been here for a rehearsal dinner. GREAT place to host a private event!

As excited as I was to see the Deli in town, the actual experience falls quite short of any deli, independent or chain, you're likely to encounter. The counter person was unable to attempt or maintain any eye contact while taking my order, a sign the could-not-care-less contest was in play here. I ordered the chicken salad and asked about the choices of bread, and behold, there were two whole choices, multigrain and white. As I ordered to-go, I had no idea what to expect. When I opened the box at home, I almost laughed out loud at the crustless bread sandwich. Perhaps the homogenous are afraid of variation of texture - that was my first thought. To their credit, the fruit was quite fresh. The chicken salad was disappointingly bland.

Like the rest of Franklin: Pop a weathered facade on it and call it homey. I had the roast beef sandwich which was fine nothing special. Not house roasted, so over done and lacking in flavor. The cheese addition was a precut slice of flavorless Colby jack. For kids they were out of chicken nuggets at 1120am and my boys chose quesadillas. Nothing to write home about. Flour tortillas with am some shredded cheese grilled. Ho hum.

I've had lunch here a few times and it's always been A-OK. Today I had the BLT on multigrain...I ordered it because the menu said it had sundried tomato cream cheese on it. I was halfway into the sandwich and didn't notice the cheese...I looked for it and there was a teensy bit on there but I couldn't taste it. Other than that the sandwich was good. The young lady at the counter was friendly. You go up to the counter to pick it up when the young man barks your name. Seriously, I felt like I was being called to the principal's office. It's not the best food but not the worst either. My friend and I were able to sit and chat for about an hour and we had a nice time.

This place is such a gem! The Hubs and I went here for the first time this afternoon. Greeted by live melodic music and an adorable interior we were super excited to try this place! I ordered the Annabelle with potato salad, amazing. The Hubs ordered the Coriander, so tasty! We can not wait to come back and try more menu options and their tasty comfy looking soups. Their Breakfast menu looks great too, they service it till 10:30am. oh so much to explore and so little time! With two drinks and two lunches, we spent about $21 , not too bad. While the weather is fine, eat outside and you'll feel like you're in You've Got Mail

Been coming here since they opened. You cannot beat the Annabelle, grilled with a side of tomato soup, and a cup of the fruit tea. I almost always have a pleasant interaction with the employees. The cookies are also very good. I've also enjoyed the Apple Blossom tea many, many times.

A good lunch spot when you are looking for something inexpensive and quality in Downtown Franklin. The line was quite long and they ran out of tomato soup which made me sad, but I opted for a seafood chowder instead to go along with my roast beef sandwich and both were good. I wouldnt drive to Franklin just to have lunch here but I could see myself going back when I wanted a casual meal and something other than pizza (Mellow Mushroom). Even though the line was really long, the service was quick and there was plenty of seating.

A lot has changed since I last came here. Unfortunately, the overall experience was disappointing. The food quality was low even though the prices have increased. Even my kids didn't like the food. Since I last came, plates have been replaced with styrofoam and silverware has been replaced with the cheapest plastic wear. It's the small changes that make a big difference. I won't be back.

Edwin W's review was spot on. There is nothing amazing about the food here. Cute rustic decor and kitschy mason jars are great but I would rather have better food. We ordered 2 different types of paninis -turkey & ham- most popular according to the cashier. They were so bland! One slice of meat with barely any cheese or special condiments as advertised. At $20 for 2 mediocre sandwiches & sides, I expected better. We will not be back. Meridees is a much better option, but closed on Sundays.
(2)Matthew M.
What a great little spot to eat when it's cold out! The atmosphere is great with vintage decorations and the service was snappy and polite. The food is just as charming. Their club is amazing, as well as their paninis!
(5)Beth B.
I ordered a chicken quesadilla that was quite disappointing. The spinach wrap wasn't very good (although that's a personal opinion) but it was the what was inside that was poor. The chicken was tough and in large pieces so that, when I took a bite, the whole piece came out. The tomato pieces seemed canned, there was very little cheese, and, although it appeared to have guacamole on it, I couldn't taste it. It was tasteless and service, although friendly, was slow. Way overpriced. I hate to give them this review, but that was my experience. I won't be going back.
(1)Becca W.
You must have the grits! they are divine! It also has a great vibe and i love the mismatched tables.
(4)William F.
ate lunch on a saturday. place was packed but we found a table very quickly. I ordered a panini sandwich and the wife ordered the quack pimento sandwich. EXCELLENT! soup of the day was spinach potatoe. EXCELLENT!

We were in the area touring the civil war sites. We wanted a good quick lunch and asked a few locals. This is where they sent us. We all got sandwiches and you get your choice of side. Fruit, chips or potato salad. Cost around $8 a sandwhich. All were made to order all were fresh and tasty. The service was extremely friendly. Street parking can be found near the place. If back in the area we would stop in again.
(5)Patti M.
Glad I checked it out finally, won't return. Counter staff was great when ordering. Had a bad reaction to food. Better choices in town.
(1)Ashlyn M.
I am a fan of this quaint little deli. The food has never disappointed. I usually get one of their panini's or a quesadilla. The sweet tea is pretty sweet, which is how I personally like it. I love the couch seating in the corner by the window, so cozy!
(4)Matt V.
Staff and food didn't impress. The prices are a bit high for tastes that I didn't really enjoy. The potato salad tried to be gourmet, but had too much mayo and spices. The sandwiches are ok... But don't think they are quite worth it.
(2)Gianna R.
This places mostly gets stars for ambiance and speed. The decor is cute and the service was fast. The sandwich was ok, but definitely not $8.50 good. They were out of several items including bacon and cucumber salad, which is served with a lot of their items and two of the things I wanted.
(3)Chester M.
Very good but cold tables and very c old inside. No heat. High prices. Will not return.

My husband and I were very impressed with our first dinner here. He is from Franklin and told me he has eaten here at lunch in the past before we met and that it's pretty good, but our dinner we had on this evening was awesome! I was very impressed considering the looks of this place is typical of just a casual deli/southern style food joint. For the price, you can't ask for a better deal! We had the $45 special, which included an appetizer, two entrees, dessert, and a bottle of wine! We easily spend $60-$80 for a dinner like this at a more trendy restaurant. I have to rave about the side dish to my entree... the sweet potato pancakes. They were amazing and I've never had anything else like then anywhere else. My main dish, bruschetta stuffed portabella, was delicious, and the grilled asparagus was perfectly cooked as well. My husband had they Merc burger, which I tasted. It was really good and had a special sauce instead of the standard condiments. The hashbrown casserole was good... hard to mess that up! We saw the breakfast menu and will definitely be back. We'll definitely be back for dinner since there were so many yummy options on the menu. Lunch seems like your typical deli, but maybe I'll check it out as well if I'm on the square on a weekend during lunch. Oh, and the staff and service was great!

A charming place in downtown Franklin that offers a nice variety of Southern meals. Good tasty meals and reasonably priced. Friendly staff, cozy atmoshphere and live music on certain evenings! They also have these great summer specials where you can get appetizers, meals and wine for two at a great bargain price! I have enjoyed all my meals here so far, and look forward to my next trip here!

The Merc is such a charming little place on downtown Franklin. Truly, it is one of the spaces that makes Franklin special. On this visit I had the flank steak which was well prepared and served with a creamy peppercorn sauce that I could drink. My son had the burger, which I will surely be back for. Among the best I have tasted in Franklin. At lunch, I'm a particular fan of the chicken salad and potato salad. Theirs is perfect and could not be improved upon. Most importantly though, the Merc is the only place I know of to get cheesecake from Aux Choie. It is truly and without a doubt the best cheesecake anywhere. Cheesecake factory does not compete at all. It is perfectly homemade with a wonderful nutmeg flavor and delightful texture. Have them serve it with a bit of fresh whipped cream.
(4)Ryan B.
I was there for a private event and the food was simple and spectacular.
(4)Chance M.
Their ham and cheddar jack on sourdough pinini was delicious! I look forward to my next visit when in historic Franklin again.
(5)Meghan E.
Great, quick lunch place for classic and fresh food. I like the Mercantile because you can feel comfortable either coming in for a quick business lunch, plugging in for a few hours and getting some work done, or grabbing lunch to go. Lost one star because they always seem annoyed that I sub sauces on my sandwich (the sundried tomato mayo is wayyy better than the guac here!) and because they do not offer a large iced tea size for to go orders (avoiding the after-lunch slump), but these are obviously minor annoyances.
(4)Pete N.
Strike three! We drove down again last night and it was closed again for a private event. No notice on their website. I tried to call but no answer and no notice on the outbound message. If I didn't have a certificate that expires soon I would not keep trying. I guess I will just ask CrowdSavings for a refund. So if you're travelling any distance be aware that the restaurant is frequently closed. Better yet, just avoid it.

My grandma and I went here for lunch yesterday. I got the veggie sandwich and she got the chicken salad sandwich. The atmosphere is nice and interesting. Parking is hard, especially with my grandmother who can't walk well. My sandwich was just okay, canned black olives and guacamole with the normal sandwich fixings. The bread wasn't toasted and really started falling apart as I ate. Ended up eating my sandwich with a fork. My grandma was happy with her sandwich. Maybe I would have a better experience with a other menu item. I will go back. The dinner deal they were advertising looked interesting.
(3)Katie F.
Awesome place! We have been several times for both lunch and dinner. At dinner they have a deal for $49, you get an appetizer, 2 entrees, 1 dessert and a bottle of wine. Pretty good deal and everything we have ever ordered both lunch and dinner have been good. Not many tables so we have had to pass on eating there a few times because of a wait. There are a few tables outside too. Very cute place. Antiqued table clothes and mason jars with fresh cut flowers on the table!
(5)Aaron D.
The disclaimer here is that I only ate a piece of pie here last night. But the vibe was so welcoming, the service so friendly, the mood so upbeat, the pie so affordable and the music (The Get Reels - reverbnation.com/thegetr… ) so fun that I had a fantastic time. I did not expect to hear a bagpipe rendition of Rocky Top, but I'm certainly happy that I did. I'll be back to try one of the sandwiches that others have raved about or just to chillax in a happy place.

Seven of us hit this great deli for lunch today.... Excellent selections....soups, salads & sandwiches. My wife & I shared a "3 scoops salad bowl" with tuna salad, chicken salad and pimento cheese spread...all with crackers. Fantastic...each was better than what you normally get outside your own kitchen, and the service was quick & friendly. Cost for seven, including iced teas and tip was only $65, which was nice. If you're in Franklin, this is a solid retreat for a good lunch....plus, with the homey decor and fast friendly service, it's a memorable place.

Where do I start. We tried dinner here tonight - the restaurant was not staffed for the business they had, and the food was horrible - the grits and shrimp ICE cold, sweet potato pancakes that were BURNED, over seasoned and over cooked asparagus with BROKEN Hollandaise, Toast Points that were dry and had no color, no sour cream with the quesadilla, $66 later we are eating dinner at another restaurant. Restaurateurs should know their limitations and not try to do something they aren't prepared to execute!

First things first: the service was top notch, but relaxed and personable. Shannon rocks. Second things...well...second - a totally unbelievable value. On a Saturday night we walked in to a $40 special - $40 for a bottle of wine, 2 appetizers, and 2 entrees. Insane... We dined on about $85 worth of food and beverage for $40. If they keep that special I'm going to have to get a reserved parking spot in downtown Franklin. And the best part was that the whole experience was so pleasant....laid back southern atmosphere, great food quality (got to have the shrimp and grits...), good wine list, great service, good location... The chicken salad may make a great lunch for the downtown crowd...but Franklin Mercantile is not just for lunch!
(4)Rudy L.
Great location for a quick homemade meal and the staff is always helpful. Overall this place is always out of sight out fo mind, but this place is a hidden gem in downtown Franklin.
(4)Monica N.
I enjoy going here for a good tasting, no fuss lunch. It is easy to be served. The menu items are simple and affordable - soups, sandwiches, salads, desserts. The atmosphere is a little quirky and has a wonderful feeling of downtown. I often see people I know there. I have not had the dinner. There can be challenges with parking near the door, but the parking garage is only 1 block down the street. Last time I went I parked on the square and enjoyed my walk down 1 block of main street.

By 8:30am I had already driven for an hour, stressed over not needing to stress out about kids that aren't mine even though I'm trying to get them ready for school and they won't listen to me and they do things their own way regardless of what I tell them even if they asked me for permission first, and nearly got lost in Cool Springs. So, what better to do than meet my how-rare-!-off-for-the-day husband and venture to Franklin for some tasty fast breaking. We decided on Franklin Mercantile b/c he found it on his hoity-toity iPhone (I refuse to give in). They had several tables outside, but we chose to sit inside. What I love about Nashville is how all of these old homes have been converted into business...such a cool feel! I felt FM did this really well. As far as the food went, it was just average. They had a small, but enough options on the breakfast menu and the employee said they did omelettes really well, so we both went that route. Between the 2 of us, we had an omelette with turkey, feta, & spinach, side of fruit & croissant, and another omelette with turkey, cheddar, & red onion, side of hashbrown casserole, & croissant. I don't like spinach, but in omelettes, I sometimes do...not this time, I ended up picking most of it out. I guess I prefer it when it's cooked in the egg batter, as opposed to inserted in the middle with the rest of the toppings. NOT holding this against FM, as it's just my silly taste buds & their plot against me pleasurably getting nutritional goods. My husband thought his omelette was fine, but he really enjoyed the hashbrown casserole (I didn't think it was that great). He also had an OJ ($1.95) & a coffee ($2). Each omelette w/ sides was $6.75. If I were wandering around this area, I could see myself going back to FM to try a different breakfast option (french toast?) or later in the day for something else on the menu.

We love the people at The Franklin Mercantile: Yesterday morning the only thing our daughter wanted for her Birthday Breakfast was "bacon from The Mercantile." I called ahead and they had a huge plateful of bacon already prepared and warm birthday wishes - even though they had stopped serving breakfast. We love living in Franklin.....
(5)Brandon L.
Great place! Very trendy place to grab a sandwich on your lunch break. They have wonderful fresh items to choose from on their menu. Great baked goods as well. Its a must try!
(3)Becca F.
Very cute lunchtime place with decent food. I was looking forward to eating a unique sounding sandwich, pimiento cheese with guacamole, but it was actually quite bland. The prices also seemed a little high $7-8 for a sandwich and side. They are connected to Ivey Cakes which is a great post lunch to stop.
(3)Jeanna B.
Quaint and eclectic, this deli is legit. Housed in the back half of a building off 4th Ave, you'll be delighted to see a mish mash of old kitchen tables and chairs for your seating pleasure. My all time favorite sandwich there is the Anabelle- turkey and swiss on country farm bread with lettuce, tomato and balsamic vinegrette. Their fruit tea is delicious and cold. Get there before the lunch crowd though, because the line tends to be out the door! And if you see Michael McDonald or Naomi Judd eating out front, give 'em a wave!
(4)rob h.
Good food. Great people. Mary and I have enjoyed this downtown staple for years.
(4)Jennifer J.
What a great place to eat. They have really good Southern Deli food. The decor is great, southern kitchy. It is a little expensive and it was really tight with my big baby stroller. Maybe I'll go back now that she is a little older and I don't need the big travel system for her.
(4)J G.
I had a great dinner here! So delicious! Everything we had was very good. the service was extremely slow, but it was a very busy night. We didn't have our drink refilled the entire time. The waiter realized our drinks were empty and he did not bring out something we had ordered, so he brought us a piece of cake on the house. That was really nice and super good!
(4)Chris k.
This is a very nice restaurant. The meal started with two appetizers. They consisted of a hearty bread with a spread, I had the pesto, my wife had a fresh pico type tomato mixture. Both were ample and both were delicious. My wife had a boneless pork loin which was probably the best either of us have ever tasted. I had the flank steak that came cut into three pieces with a really good grilled flavor. Both meals were served with two sides that were very good. We also had a bottle of wine. All this for 40 dollars, quite a bargain. The waiter was very friendly and helpful in making our selections. Food was serverd promptly and hot.
