Missed the mark in a few places. The raw oysters where fresh and cold and... Well.. That's where the fun ends. No beer on tap and a limited bottled selection. The first bottled beer I ordered was out of stock. The crawfish po boy was dry and lacked spice. The Crawfish Etouffee was... Orange. Now I have had Etouffee in New Orleans and a variety of other places but ... orange? Color aside the taste was, boring. (boring is never a term I would use to describe Cajun food... Until now) We where seated, then waited for quite a while in a simi-empty restaurant until one of the Hooter'esk uniform clad waitresses asked if we had been waited on. Now let me be clear as a man the uniform is definitely aesthetically pleasing but just a tad too 90's chain restaurant. I truly wanted to like this place but the disappointments just kept coming.

I go by Cajun Steamer once a month or two. The waitresses are very friendly and somehow all better looking than you'd believe possible. The food is consistently moderately good, heavy on fried items and lots of breading on those. I have to ask every time I go that the oysters be separated from the shell completely. It's the only bar I have to do that at. I think their cooks perhaps don't eat oysters themselves.

We had a hankering for crawfish last night and so few restaurants have them on the menu regularly in Nashville so we found ourselves here for the first time and we were not disappointed. The weather was beautiful and we were glad to see they had a nice patio. We got a platter for two that included steamed mussels, crawfish, shrimp, crab legs and boiled potatoes and corn. More than enough for the both of us, beautiful presentation and decently priced. The crawfish had good heat on them! Our server was very attentive and the owner came out and checked on every table which always makes me happy. We are definitely coming back because every dish that went by us looked amazing and we certainly weren't alone in that opinion. I kept seeing other customers lean over to other tables asking them what they were having. Usually Bro's Cajun gets all the attention in Nashville because it was on Diner's, Drive ins and Dives but the food was so much better here, the servers more attentive and the atmosphere better. After going here I'll never go back to Bro's. The only place where we thought the menu was a little lacking was the beer and wine selection but we made due! We most definitely will be back!

Love the Cajun Steamer. I've been getting the boiled crawfish as they are now in season. The staff is friendly, it's a great place to get your Cajun fix.

Stopped in after a LONG day of flying to snag a to go order, and the place was loud with lively laughter and good times. It has an upstairs, as well as an outdoor seating area. The downstairs has a great bar that is the center of attention and the bartender (an unkown guy with incredibly gorgeous eyes and smile) welcomes you and makes you feel as though you live just around the corner. Onto the food... I ordered a serving of their Red beans and sausage and a blackened chicken salad. Both were very good. Of the four dining establishments in this little market area, this is by far the best experience. I'll eat here again and again!

If they were a little more consistent, they would rate a 4. I mainly go for crawfish and it's been hit or miss. The first couple of experiences were very good. Then towards end of the season last year a friend and I had a horrible experience with the crawfish. Tonight I had a frozen strawberry margarita and crawfish. The frozen margarita was incredible. It was so cold that it felt like you were sticking your tongue to an ice tray. The best part, Monday happy hour special is margaritas on the rocks or frozen, regular or strawberry served in a styrofoam cup - about 12 oz. Price - $0.99 and these were NOT watered down happy hour drinks. The crawfish were just ok. Most of them were slightly overcooked but not completely mushy so they were edible and ok. Warning, these crawfish have plenty of heat.

Having gown up in Louisiana, I had missed Cajun & Creole cuisine for years until this place opened last year. They have everything you could possibly want from a Cajun and Creole menu. Their shrimp & grits are delicious and their seafood boil or steamed platters or bountiful. Also, there bread pudding dessert is scrumptious. Great atmosphere with friendly staff.

So using another app to find our dinner tonight (you know the one that you shake) to find this out of the way place. Its located in one of the newer sections of Cool Springs off Meridian in a nice new development along with a Jersey's Mikes and some pretentiously named taco bar. I was excited to see a place that might just give me a taste of home. Walking up to the store front the presentation was nice and very clean. Right at the entrance above the bar was a Laissez Les Bon Temps Rouler sign which made me kind of smile. We were greeted by the tiniest hostess I think I had ever seen.. She was very nice and promptly seated us. The atmosphere was well done with an upstairs area in which we were seated. After a minute or two we were greeted by Madalyn (that is how its spelled on the receipt anyway) our server who was cute and well presented (also tiny). She promptly got our drinks however didn't know what a Barq's was (bad sign if this place is billed as authentic). However as we were to learn that this was to be the only prompt time of the night. The menu is extensive and we were impressed. Ashley not knowing what to order asked me to order for her as for some reason she claims I know her tastes. I ordered her the Crawfish Etouffee and I was going to have the Catfish Ponchartrain however were out. Bummer as its described as - Catfish with shrimp and crab stuffing, topped with Crawfish Louie sauce. I don't know what "Crawfish Louie" is but it sounds damned good.. So I ordered the Atchafalaya Pirogue (Fried eggplant stuffed with grilled tilapia and topped with a crab cream sauce) which sounded great. Our server walked away without asking about an Appetizer so I had to call her back. We tried to also ordered the Alligator the way we wanted it but she was too much in a hurry to ask. I bet Ash that it would come fried and she agreed that blackened would not happen. 15 minutes went by where we really got to soak in the atmosphere of the place. Lots of large high quality flat screens in all directions with various sports on. Hats off to the install guys on that one. However as I started to look around I noticed other things. The stereotypical Mardi Gras beads were around, but nothing that was really homey. Sam Adams/Land Shark/Corona instead of Abita or Dixie signs. Not a single New Orleans Saints sign/flag/sticker that we could see or really anything else that would indicate the culture of Louisiana or her great products. Our server came over with a small plate of fried alligator bits which was accompanied by a thin lemon slice and a plastic ramekin of cocktail sauce. As she set the plate down she mentioned that they were having trouble with the kitchen staff and that they were running a little behind. She assured us that it would not take as long to get our entrées. Honestly we were having a good time and hadn't noticed, but we appreciated putting that in our heads. While the portion seemed to be right sized the bits were not. Most were very small and as they were fried contained not much meat which was disappointing. The color was of an over cooked texture and dry on the inside. 2 table visits 10 minutes apart to tell us that our food would be up in just a minute and that she was getting after the guys in the kitchen to get it out, our food arrived. We always split whatever we order in a new place. So I started off with the Etouffee and Ash with the Atchafalaya. I was excited to get some Etouffee for the first time since my last trip home. However that was quickly diminished when I tasted it. The consistency was more of a soup than a roux and it was fairly bland. I had been "Tennesseeed" again. Ash felt the same way that it was good but not up to the flavor expectations that a small restaurant chain based off the Gulf would/should present. Ash however really seemed to like the flavor of the Atchafalaya but pointed out that it was too greasy to eat. I tasted it and enjoyed it. She noted that the eggplant seemed like it was fried in grease that was either old or not hot enough to make it crispy. The sauce was very tasty and well flavored. This was served with Cajun Mashed potatoes. These potatoes were for sure out of a box and we couldn't tell what made them Cajun other than the hint of what might have been cyanine pepper. Also of note there was no French Bread. How you advertise that you have Gambino's and not a piece is offered to hit the table is sad. Not sure if that was on our server or the general manager but at these prices something should have been served. As we were finished with our entrees our server asked us to think about desert. We decided to go about it we would give them another shot with the bread pudding and beignets. Both served with ice cream, whipped cream and a strawberry on the side. Both were pretty average but nothing special.

I was looking for something different to try in the Cool Springs area and came across this place on Yelp. The service was fast. We were seated quickly and our waitress was very attentive. The menu is quite large and will take some time for you to find something that strikes you. My brother and I both ordered different items (He the crawfish enchiladas and I the crawfish etouffee, with a starter of peel and eat shrimp) and we were both very satisfied with our orders. The food was delicious and the service was good! I'm no expert on Cajun or Creole foods, but I can tell you that their food is very good. The only thing that prevented me from giving this place 5 stars was, well, I don't know. It was just missing something. I've eaten at many great places and I just can't put this place up there with them. It feels as if the restaurant has some maturing to do. Their portions were a bit on the slim side for what I paid and the feel of the atmosphere feels incomplete. I can't quite place it, but this place has some growth to do still. I liked it, but it's not on my list of regular establishments i'll purview.

Not really impressed at all. Waiter got two things wrong and did not even recognize the difference between two of their menu items. Food quality was mediocre, certainly not high quality cajun.

Excellent. Hubby had stuffed tilapia & I had catfish po'boy. YUM! Small, casual place that could get busy with locals. Perfect for those staying at local hotels.

We tried this place because it was close to the hotel - and loved it so much we came back the next night. Exemplary service (Thanks Toni!), We had blue crab claws for the appetizer - they were delicious. The Tilapia Rockefeller served on mashed-potatoes was intoxicatingly good - my travel buddy got it both nights. I got fried catfish and shrimp the next night, and I was not disappointed. Plus, they have Abita beers - love that turbodog.

I've been to this place a million times. There are some items that are better than others. I am very picky about po-boys, so I haven't even even tried them! The peel 'n eat shrimp are nice-sized, but they only give you a few, and they are too expensive. The grilled shrimp salad is a joke, with hardly any shrimp and a little bit of half-wilted lettuce. However there are other dishes that are really good and reasonably priced like the All Saints Tilapia and Cajun Seafood Medley. We enjoy the fried alligator appetizer as well. The raw oysters are great, but they are way to expensive at 14.95/dozen. Right now they have them for 9.99/dozen on Mondays for happy hour, which is nice. Love the Abita beer selection, especially the seasonal Strawberry Harvest. They have 2-1 just about every time we are in. The wine is reasonably priced as well. My daughter loves the kids' meals. They are very generous with the kids' portions. We nearly always have a to-go box for her. Lastly, I have never had bad service here, even when sitting out on the patio alone. The girls that have waited on us have always been very friendly and attentive. Although not perfect, it's the best all around cajun/southern food in this area, in my opinion. Bro's in Nashville is great and very authentic, but it's just more of a lunch place, and it does not have a bar, etc.

Not sure what all the fuss is about. This place is OK, but certainly not worth a wait. Perhaps I am comparing apples & oranges, but Swanky's next door is a far better place.

Gulf Coast seafood is fabulous, espec. the Apalachicola Bay Oysters, ohmygosh, they are soo good! Not many palces we land-locked folk can get it nice & fresh! Coaching hint: our server couldn't even pronounce Apalachicola, had to ask first (where oysters were from), not sure she even knew where was located...so we walked her thru the phonetic pronunciation. Fabuous beer list, wine list is fair for a seafood bar. Shrimp was way over-steamed (hello kitchen, are you paying attention to the timer?), well hope the timer wasn't set for too long! We ate it anyway, lack of flavor notwithstanding. Hope to have an improved experience next time! Thx!

I usually never make it out of Nashville to dine, but this trip to Franklin is well worth it, especially if you're sick of the limited Creole dining options downtown. The joint is small and bustling, which fits its bar-like vibe. Service was friendly and efficient, even for our large, loud group (to be expected at a family gathering). The menu is massive so it might take a few visits to sift through the menu and find some favorites, but everyone at our table was satisfied with their orders. An addictive smoked tuna dip and huge platters of oysters and crawfish began our feast, the oysters being good despite tiny pieces of shell (which isn't so uncommon) and the crawfish carrying a nice spicy zing on the lips. The Sesame Seared Tuna, though not necessarily creole, added some seafood diversity to the menu, and came with a tempting array of sauces, my favorite being the wasabi, though their tiger cream was lovely as well. I was more than pleased with my main dish of Shrimp Creole, a traditional dish of spicy shrimp over rice with tomatoes and peppers. The Crawfish Ettouftee (which can be ordered as a main or as a side) was rich and spicy, though perhaps a bit too creamy for my taste. The Coconut Shrimp was basic run-of-the-mill, with a too-sweet asian chili sauce served alongside it. The flounder and chicken fingers with spicy curly fries were also what you would expect, so given that I think it's best to order the more traditional cajun dishes rather than standard fried pub fare. And yes, even after all that we tried dessert. I was most excited for the bread pudding with bourbon caramel sauce, but found it average. The chocolate cake was also the standard boxed and shipped bland taste you find at most restaurants that don't do their own baking. While a few people were wowed by the fried cheesecake, I didn't care for the triangles of cream cheese fried in panko breadcrumbs. But, to each his own. Overall, having sampled a good portion of the menu, I say it is definitely worth a visit, especially if crawfish is your thing. The atmosphere is fun and it won't break the bank. Just stick to the real cajun dishes, as those are sure to be the real stars.

This is a fried/raw seafood bar located in the Meridian development with Bosco's & Noshville. They have great peel and eat shrimp and shrimp po'boys. Pretty diverse menu from crawfish to alligator. The beer is cold. Kind of loud buts then again its a bar. Plasmas on different walls and a 2nd mezzanine level for dining. Don't go upstairs if you are very tall! The ceiling is pretty low. Overall this place has pretty good food, fun vibe and is a welcome addition to the bar selection on Carouthers. Soon there will enough places on the street to have a Carouthers Pub Crawl! Not so much nice seafood restaurant but more raw dog drinking and eating crawfish and hushpuppies. In a good way!

3.5 stars We were in the area and looking to try out someplace new. My fiance is an authentic Cajun straight from LA, so he has very high standards for Cajun food. It was late on a Tuesday night and not incredibly busy. Our waitress was very attentive and we quickly put in an order for some alligator bites, shrimp and grits, and etouffee. We were waiting for our food to arrive when the people in the booth behind us got into a bit of a domestic dispute, which ended with the male figure leaving the table, telling the woman to get a friend to pick her and her daughter up, and going to the bar to drink. (At this point, hubs to be tells me if they start shooting that I should get down...) In any case, I digress. Aside from the interesting clientele, the atmosphere was fun (I particularly liked the articles on the table), and the food was pretty good. The sauce of the etouffee was delicious, though it didn't have as much meat as we would have liked and the shrimp and grits were silky and swimming in butter. Was a bit disappointed in the alligator...some of the bites were rather tough, though I imagine it's not the easiest meat to source. Not a bad spot if you're in the area. I especially like the idea of getting this kind of food at a sports bar instead of your generic burgers and fries.

What do you know, this place was good. A bit kitcsch perhaps but good. Gorgeous barmaid (wow) but that is clearly not relevant to this highly professional review. I like the setting and the ambience to the place. For a quiet sunday night it still had a buzz about it and felt really welcome there. Being brittish I always struggle with wservice where you have to be best friends with the server but Paige was great and the service was snappy and attentive. Shared the calamari which was just as it should be, crisp and non-greasy. Personally I like lemon wedges with calamair but the spicy suaces were good too. I can recall the name of my main, bayoo chicken maybe? Either way, chicken breast stuffed with crab and shrimp meat pattie covered in a sauce and served with fries. Have to say the first bite with the eye was not great but the plate was rescued by the flavour. Whatevver they put in it was delicious and a lot lighter than it looked., This place more than anything is really good value. This was by most standards a pretty cheap meal and it was really full of flavour and delicious. There is plenty ont he menu that I could go for another time and some of the food coming out look like really good blackened cajun dishes. According to the colleague who took me here it has been consistently good for a while now and you dont get bad food or bad service here. I can believe him and given the hotel I stay at is next door I can see myself being back here again. If only to see if the same barmaid is working :-)

The husband is always seeking out cajun food, and it's rare we are in this part of town, so when he pulls up little eateries on scout, we were stoked to see this place! Let me put it this way... We rearranged our wedding date specifically for crawfish season... So cajun food is a big deal for us. We went and unfortunately it was less than impressive. The prices are just too high for the quality and quantity of food. We ordered crab cakes as an app--- $12.00 and ONE small crab cake. It was good, but could have come with a few more to make it worth the price. I ordered crawfish poboy--- it lacked flavor, sauce, and the they were a bit over cooked. The mahi mahi and potatoes were "just okay". Nothing impressive. To add to the annoyance I felt after we paid our 45.00 lunch time bill (too high for what we got) I was packing up my 1 year old and I overheard one of the waitresses gripping about having to wait on "more kids". Needless to say it just wasn't my style. If you want some reel yummy cajun food check out reel fish in Smyrna!

Went in for a quick bite last night sitting at the bar and asked the very attractive bartender for a recomendation on a light and spicy dish. She stopped, stumped and had no recommendations. I asked her about the new menue item Cochon (pork barbecue over grits) and she said, yea, um, thats good. (Should have taken the hint) Ordered that and it literally came out in about 2 minutes. Basically you take some gits, actually a lot of grits, throw some pork barbecue on top and smother it in the famous New Orleans trinity gravy with lots of bay leaves (pulled out about 6 bay leaves) and add a ton of salt. Took about 3 bites and figured I surpassed my weekly sodium intake, I could eat no more. Asked for check, (Bartender, do you want a to go box, me: no) and left. This place is good for the beer and eye candy only, the food is cafeteria new orleans style crap!

i will tell you that i only signed onto yelp to review this particular place. it had to be the worst service ive ever had. all i wanted was a drink after my long exhausting day at work. the vibe of "youre bothering me" was felt in the atmostphere. im a heniken fan through and through. i had such a bad time that i couldnt even finish my second beer. My buddy and i were clearly the youngest people in there (25-28) and the waitress clearly went to her manager and said something negative about my friend and i. how do i know? because right after she said something the manager kept hovering around my buddy and i.. standing about two feet from us and watching us. ive never felt so pre-judged in my life. if anybody asks me about this place i will give them my 2 cents for sure. no wonder Tin roof 2 is thriving. they actually care about their customers.

I like Cajun food and I've sampled a lot of it. The boudin here is very good. I ordered an oyster Po-Boy because to me, this defines a Cajun restaurant. It's almost like a first kiss: do good on the po-boy and I'll be back for more. This sandwich was like a politician, it was cold, dry, and had no soul at all. The bread was like something day-old from a bad grocery store bakery. There was no mayonnaise or any other kind of lubrication on the sandwich. The tomatoes and lettuce were not even as good as what McDonalds serves. And to top it off, the oysters were small and scarce. I invite the owner and chef to sample a really good oyster po-boy. I'll make them one if they want to see what the finished product should look and taste like. I'll be back because I like the ambience and there are likely some good offerings on the menu. But steer clear of that oyster po-boy. *********Update********** June 9, 2012 This place has gotten better! I changed it from a 2 star to a 4. The boudin sausage here is really, really good. Just got back from New Orleans and I swear, what they have here is better than what we had in the French Quarter. Congrats on whoever in the kitchen has raised the bar and gotten the quality of the food up.

I have tried a few different things here and its all been good. Really like the gator po boy. If you enjoy spicy food you'll love this place. Only reason I did'nt give the full 5 stars is because I feel that sometimes the service can be a little slow.

My visit to the Cajun Steamer was during lunch. A fellow coworker and I went since it's within walking distance of our office. The service is decent and dressed in very skimpy clothing. I wouldn't bring my kids here. The food is overpriced in my opinion although it was good. I don't think it was worth the price though. The atmosphere is nice and I like the way they have it decorated, but it is a small place. It seems like they crammed a lot of tables into a very small dining area. There wasn't much room to move around. They had a lot of seafood on the menu and I'm not much of a fan of seafood. Because of this, I most likely won't return. Not because of the service or cleanliness, but because I don't like seafood and I think it was too expensive.

Definite NOLA feel to the menu. Atmosphere feels like Franklin. I do appreciate the Abita beer selections but think they should all be on draft. Nice that they have some decent NOLA selections and they aren't too bad either.

As someone who grew up in Cajun country, I have to say I could not have been more disappointed. I really think this was the worst Cajun dining I have ever experienced. Examples include "jumbo shrimp" that was 31-40 count, stuffed shrimp that was not even edible and peel and eat shrimp that was overcooked and already peeled. Still looking for a descent Cajun Restaurant in the Nashville area. Horrendous!

I've had a series of mixed experiences with this Cajun Steamer. Some days you can get a table only to be promptly ignored. Other days things work out pretty well. As with most of my reviews, I've tried to eat here more than once to get a feel for the place. That feeling could only be defined as touristy. While the food seems to be of good quality, it's not necessarily what I'd describe as cajun. As I spent the first 30 years of my life in Louisiana, I can definitely identify cajun and pseudo cajun. There are some decent southern dishes in here and hints of cajun-ness that fly if you are looking for non-native Louisiana foods. That said, I will eat here on occasion when I'm in the area if I want shrimp and fries. It's ok shrimp but not great and they don't blink more than twice when I ask for worcestershire sauce to mix with ketchup and louisiana hot sauce to make my own dip.

Loved this place when it opened, but seems to decline each time I go. Went on a Saturday afternoon and got jambalaya with NO SAUSAGE or CHICKEN in it. It was like brown rice with pulled pork in it. My wife had a shrimp poboy, but that boy must be real po because there were like four shrimp on the sandwich. You don't get return business by skimping.

I knew when I tasted the Gumbo Ya Ya that someone in this joint knows about Cajun cuisine. The smoky, hearty taste with the nice little spicy bite after you swallow reminds me of some great bijou cooking I had down in the Big Easy. There is a "Seafood Gumbo" available which, according to the waitress, does not have the oysters that are in the Ya Ya version. We had the Sesame Seared Tuna, not a real Cajun plate , but it was a healthy portion of tuna served with three distinctly different dipping sauces: Wasabi- and soy-bases sauces and one called "tiger-cream" sauce. I personally like the soy-based sauce, though it tastes like they used a very common soy sauce that Chinese take-out restaurants serve. I had the Crawfish Etouffee which was tasty, full of little crawdad tails, and served with a scoop of white rice on top. For my side dish, I chose the Creamy Cheddar Grits, which were very smooth and rich, with a definite cheddar taste. The cheddar grits was a first for me and I did enjoy it. There is a goodly selection of beers and I supported my local brewery with my choice of Yazoo Dos Perros (bottle). The vibe is cool and casual, and I did feel somewhat transported out of the Nashville middle-Tennessee area to a beachy version of New Orleans. There is more on the menu that I want to mow down, so it looks like I'll have to come back. I saw several diners order the Hot Boiled Crawfish and Royal Red Shrimp, and they looked good!

We had the worst experience we have ever had at this place. We had four kids and 3 adults in our party and were told it would be about a 30 minute wait. I had a discussion with the girl putting our name down that if it were easier we could sit at two separate tables if that was easier to seat us quicker. As time passed, we were noticing people that came in after us being seated so we went up to the hostess 3 separate times to make sure they had not forgotten us. We realized that the girl we spoke to never put our name on the list. Every single party that came in after us, which was many, were now seated and here we were quite frustrated with 4 very hungry kids and 3 very irritated adults. We ended up speaking to the manager letting him know what had happened. While speaking to the hostess who I had initially spoken to, one of the other hostesses said to my husband that we should just leave!!!! At that point we did not want to be seated because we were so furious and didn't want to give them our business. Unbelievable! Waist of our time and the worst customer service I have ever seen.

THEIR SAVING GRACE.. BEIGNETS !!!!!!! I couldn't decide between 2 or 3 stars... I've been here twice and had 2 very different experiences.. Okay, so tonight i decide to go here because i want oysters.. they are $18.95 and come with a side of fries ( The Chilean Sea Bass was only $1. more WTF????)i asked to substitute a salad for the fries and they wanted to charge me more.. so i get the grouper fingers for $9.95 and they arrive and LOOK LIKE THE SCRAPINGS OFF OF SOMEONE ELSE'S PLATE!!! TINY SCRAPS OF FISH ON A BREAD PLATE THAT ONLY TOOK UP HALF THE PLATE AND THE PLASTIC CUP OF COCKTAIL SAUCE ON THE OTHER HALF!!. YOU ONLY GET THE SMALL BREAD PLATE AND NOTHING ELSE FOR $9.95. C'MON... O a positive note: the coconut shrimp are tasty , and the Beignets are excellent! they come with homemade caramel sauce with homemade whipped cream on the side. they arrive hot and fresh with a dusting of powdered sugar..yum! The service is bad. (However, the first time i went i received excellent service. ) For example ....the server could not be found and i had to get the manager to place an appetizer order, The server would never stop at the table for a second... always rushing and slinging the plates down. (when we could get plates!! i started to eat the appetizer on paper towels and she must have seen that and went and slung some plates down) i tried to stop her long enough to ask a question, and she barely could stand still. Then she drops off the check and tries to collect the money right after our dessert arrived! C'MON! I ALWAYS ASK MYSELF.. WOULD I EAT HERE AGAIN?? MAYBE ONCE MORE BUT ONLY FOR THE BEIGNETS!

I dont wanna be another one of those assholes that claims they know everything about cajun food because I'm from Louisiana, but after spending two years there, I got spoiled. This may have impressed me once upon a time... and it wasn't BAD, but I have just never got the urge to revisit. A-OK.

Pretty decent cajun food. The fried cheesecake is good. I don't think I can really call it excellent and it may be a bit expensive for the quality, but generally it is consistently good.

We visited Cajun Steamer Bar & Grill for one reason.... Oysters on the half shell! With the oil spill in the gulf, getting Oysters in the middle Tennessee area is challenging, but my husband found this place online and we decided to give it a try. The restaurant is in a cute new shopping center which also houses Noshville, Boscos, Swanky's Tacos and Nucci's Gelato... it's off of Carothers Parkway, close to Cool Springs Blvd. Once inside it's clearly Mardi Gras time, with a fun and laid back atmosphere and an abundance of decor. We opted to sit at the bar and our bartender was Amber. Amber was very casual and made very strong tropical drinks... which we were grateful for :) We only ordered oysters... and our first dozen actually contained 16, which was a nice bonus! We went for a round two (hey, no judging... there is 2 of us and oysters aren't super filling) and got 14, another unexpected surprise! At only $12 per dozen, the price was great and we went during happy hour so their drinks were also inexpensive. All in all... we really enjoyed Cajun Steamer Bar & Grill. The staff was friendly, the price was right and the portions were generous. If you're in the mood for some delicious oysters or maybe some authentic Cajun food... this place is a great choice!

ya ya was ok, red beans needed to stew a bit longer sausage was over cooked, dirty rice was not very good that said was still better than any burger

I really enjoyed the atmosphere at this place, very casual and cajun. made ya feel like you were in an Louisiana backyard. The staff was nice enough..and attentive enough. However, the prices are not the same in person as they show online. I was really excited to find a place that did oysters that wasn't a chain and wasn't too expensive..but soon upon arrival and viewing the menu, I realized the prices online weren't quite accurate and after driving 45 mins to get to this place and having a little trouble finding it, I was less than thrilled. I got the fried oysters and grits and wasn't too ecstatic about either. The tartar sauce actually tasted like it had gone bad..and tasted more like ranch dressing than any tartar I've ever had. The oysters were bland..and grits..eh. I paid quite a bundle for this dinner and left not that full and not too satisfied. I would choose elsewhere next time I am looking for a seafood place that isn't over-priced. This one is slacking a bit.

I have been here on a few occasions and while it has its pluses, the food quality seems to be going in the wrong direction. Hoping that it has just been a misstep because in the past it has been really good.

Ordered the Broke Shrimp Po'Boy with fried okra. Fried okra were tasty, but too salty. Sandwich was marginal. The shrimp were a nice size, but several weren't peeled before being fried. Same as the okra the batter was EXTRA salty. Bread was soft on the inside, flaky on the outside and tasted relatively fresh. Service was attractive and speedy but not very nice. Not bad. Not good.

Came for business and wanted to try this place out. I was excited for the shrimp and grits but was disappointed. It was nothing but oil. The stuffed mushrooms were mushy and the sauce wasn't my favorite. It could be bc I took it out to go but I'm not a fan.

I love spicy food in general, but man their Cajun crawfish boil was really really hot! But it was still good! The only reason why I gave them 4 stars is because our server did not come to check on us and we didn't get our refills until we were about to leave. It was pretty busy, but I felt like we didn't really get taken care of as much.

Very good food and service. We had the fire shrimp appetizer. For dinner we had the grilled oysters and the oysters Rockefeller. Both were great but I think the grilled oysters were the better of the two. We would definitely come back

Cliff and I came here for a birthday dinner and in preparation for the momentous LSU vs Alabama game of the year. We arrived around 6:00 from our hotel just less than 500 feet away. We walked in and got welcomed, as we should, and asked to sit at the bar. Now, let me preface by saying Cliff is from Baton Rouge so not only does he know Cajun food, but he calls me mon cher from time to time so we had high hopes. We started off with an Abita and Blue Moon and two appetizers. We shared the fire shrimp and blue crab claws. Both were perfect for our appetites. Blue claws were seasoned in cajun spices and in butter sauce. We waited a little longer and started figuring out what to order. Cliff only negative was that there was no seafood platter for one, only two. He ordered the peel and eat shrimp and I got a plethora of sides which included house salad, crawfish étouffée, curly fries and red beans. It as all great! Only thing I have to say that I didn't like was that the game wasn't that big of a deal, I guess. It was kind of empty but we had a great time. All in all it was about $100, kind of expensive but it was a hit with the Cajun. So I'm happy.

Went with my family. Had the smoked tuna and fire shrimp for appetizers both were very good. I had the shrimp and grits and it was amazing. My husband had the red snapper and loved it. There was live music, a guitarist and he was very good. We will definitely be going back.

If you are looking for a quick meal, go elsewhere, as I've never gotten out under at least an hour. The service can be slow, but the food always delivers. The fish tacos are served on flour tortillas with cabbage, accompanied by remoulade and pico de gallo. My biggest struggle here is always what to get for a side, as I've had so many of them and loved them all. Among my favorites are the red beans and sausage, cheese grits and okra. When I dined here yesterday, I had cheese grits - not overly cheesy, but very smooth and with the perfect amount of spice. I've never had the dirty rice, but two friends got it and said it tasted burnt. I also LOVE their alligator bites, and I've had them both grilled and blackened. And of course, any place that serves raw oysters will always be a place I'll return.

First visit tonight. Great service and atmosphere, Ordered crawfish that was the worse decision of the night. They had no flavor and seemed like they had been soaking all day. I told management about them and they said I should have come earlier in the day. Needless to say we will not be back. Be early or be disappointed

Make sure you call and make sure crawfish are available on the menu. During crawfish season they get hit hard. Great service!! Great food !! Get there early cause it's not a huge place and during crawfish season they are BUSY!! This joint kicks ass!! Ps If you enjoy Red lobster (AKA Denny's of the sea) Please don't bother coming here!!!

Yummy! I went and grabbed a quick bite. The salad was fresh and crunchy and i enjoyed the chicken. When i realized the debate was on they rushed the meal and i was able to get back to the hotel and watch it. The grits are a special treat ... Yum yum

I rate this place a 3 out of 5 because it was good food, but it wasn't something I would rave about. Service wasn't really the best. We had to ask for refill and check. She didn't keep up well. As for food, I had the catfish and shrimp, it was cooked really well, and had just enough spice. The fries that came with my meal were kind of like Arbys curly fries which are just.. okay.. My other half had crawfish etoufee and he liked it but said Breaux's in Nashville has better. Dirty rice was so so. Sweet tea was really good. Apparently the oysters are really good, because I saw alot of those come out. I don't eat them, so I didn't get any.

I'm in Franklin about 6 times a year on business and always stop by CS for drinks, apps and /or dinner. It's more fun with a group but if your solo sit at the bar and shots from strangers are sure to come your way. Food is very consistent - the oysters are always good (raw or grilled) and inexpensive compared to other equal quality establishments. Love the smoked tuna dip and spicy shrimp apps. Gumbo is good (not great) and I've never really had anything I didn't enjoy, the menu is full of options for any palate. Service has always been super, staff is friendly and the atmosphere perfect for what it is - a raw bar, Cajun "dive". Close to all the hotels - walk from the Mariott properties in that plaza. Give it a try if you love seafood or a New Orleans flair menu and a casual grab a chair crowd.

On my first trip to Cajun Steamer a few years ago, I wasn't that impressed. In fact, we went twice and then probably didn't go back for a year. However, due to the lack of Cajun Cuisine in the area, my husband and I ventured back and I was quite impressed. In fact, we've been several times in recents months and am glad I decided to give them another shot. The smoked tuna dip and fried boudin balls with spicy creole mustard dip are both excellent. I've never been impressed with their po boys, but their traditional cajun entrees are really good. The service is always decent and it's never overly crowded when we've been. It's a very casual place, decorated like you've stepped into the French Quarter. Plenty of flat screens around with sports on and a bar if you're interested.

My wife and I ate here last night and it was a fantastic experience. The atmosphere was fun, the staff was friendly, polite, and prompt. The food was absolutely unbelievably good. I had the flounder remolade with a side of crawfish étouffé. Extremely delicious. My wife had the lemon pepper chicken with red beans and sausage and she really enjoyed it herself. If you like genuine Cajun cuisine then this place is the one for you.

This is one of the better cajun places I've tried around Nashville. Papa Beudreaux's in downtown Franklin is also very good. That's about it. Chappy's was the worst.... I typically get etouffe or jambalaya. They are both excellent and have good spice to them. I went to college in Mississippi and have had plenty of exposure to coon-ass cuisine. This is pretty authentic and very good. The place has a good set-up, lots of space and rarely any kind of wait. They do have a few tvs for sports and a very fun feel. I always enjoy myself and the portions are substantial. My only critique is that the food is not cheap. I think it's fairly priced, but you can get a sneaking $40+ bill. That's just something to be aware of when you go for the first time. Overall, it's a fun place with excellent food and I've always had great service. If you're into real cajun food, Cajun Steamer can help you out.

We went there twice during our Nashville trip. Great ambience and place is full of energy. Food selection was amazing - we struggled to decided what we were going to order. Everyone enjoyed the food except gumbo, it's very meaty flavoured.

I am perplexed how this place does so well. This fine cajun restaurant is set in one of the most prominent parts of franklin where the people are the biggest snobs and expect the very best for their uppity pallets. But time and time again, day in and day out, I eat here on a regular occasion. The place is always filled with people and they have the best gumbo, boudin, jambalaya, alligator and beer selection in the area. I am always impressed by their customer service and excellent clean environment. Being from southern Louisiana myself, I know what is considered great cajun food...and this place has it. They ooze at every seam with cajun culture, good food, good times, and great service

Great cajun food with a unique atmosphere. We went to Cajun Steamer with some friends. The service was friendly and quick. The food was excellent, may be because we toped it off with fried cheesecake. I never had it before but you can be sure that I am going back

Been here a few times when in the area. Food is great. Atmosphere is good. servers are friendly and cute. I typically try something different each time. Some is better than others, but never disappointed. The area is fun. Several restaurants and hotels within walking distance.

Always enjoy eating here. My yaya gumbo shrimp creole was spicy and delicious. My partner had the Cochin and grits, which was buttery with a bit of sweetness. Very nice. The bread pudding is one of our favorites and very rich. Staff was really on the ball last night. Just a good meal overall.

Been here a few times and I have been very impressed! I've been to New Orleans a few times and I always love eating the food when I go. And I have to say that this place is the closest I've tasted to authentic New Orleans cuisine that I've tasted. I've had the seafood gumbo and the catfish po' boy for lunch! Amazing! Also the cajun tuna is very good. The servers are very friendly as well. The only negative is the fried green tomatoes are deep fried and have way too much breading. My suggestion would be to pan fry them with very light breading. Otherwise kudos to CS!

We LOVE the food here. My man is a New Orleans native who worked at many French Quarter restaurants before Katrina moved him to Nashville. This is the only cajun place he cares to eat at in Nashville. The french bread for the Po Boys is just the right balance of soft and crispy and we are guessing is shipped in from NOLA. The creole mustard is full of flavor, as is the shrimp batter for the fried shrimp. I have enjoyed the crawfish ettouffe each time we visit, its consistently good, as is red beans and rice dish. The beer selection is nice and they now have AndyGator from Abita, which was once only available in Louisiana, along with other Abita brews for those familiar with the brewery. We both ordered Po Boys this visit, he had the Alligator blackened and I the shrmip, we were both pleased. The full size is a generous portion you can definitely ask for a box to go and enjoy the other half later. Both the atmosphere and the food definitely lends itself to New Oleans, although the Titans flags every where can quickly remind you, you are in Nashville. :) My only gripe is the service. They seem to have a very young (highschool age almost) front of the house staff, Im in my early 30's, I certainly dont take issue with youth even if mine is fleeting, but the maturity level isnt quite there. Nice enough, but not very attentive or enthusiastic overall, maybe our server this time was just anxious for her shift to end. The hostess this last visit was busy taking photos with one of the servers as we attempted to leave..........she didnt seem to mind we were there and continued with her photo taking, then casually said "goodbye". Put the phones down ladies, you're on the clock! We will definitely be back.

Very neat place, very neat atmosphere. Had a live singer/guitarist, played mostly 50-80 hits, was very nice touch. Nice outdoor patio seating. Food was good, had the raw oysters. Service was good an attentive. Great little restaurant within the hotel complex I stayed. Very conveient.

Had the beach martini, fried pickles, atchafalya pirogue and Melvin's blackened chicken. The batter on the pickles was perfect. Came out hot and fresh without the extra grease. The atchafalya is fried eggplant stuffed with tilapia with crap sauce. The fish was grilled perfect! The blackened chicken was extremely flavorful with the huge chunks of bacon on top. More than enough food with leftovers to spare. The friendly staff, no wait and live music were wonderful as well.

This was my first time in to this restaurant. I love crawfish, but rarely have the opportunity to dine on them up in Tennessee. When my mom suggested this place for a dalliance in Happy Hour dining, I couldn't pass it up. I had the crawfish etouffeé and was not disappointed. The rice was cooked perfectly and the crawfish and sauce were delicious and left a pleasant burning long after it had passed my lips. I will definitely be returning here!

It seems like Cajun is the hot new restaurant trend in Franklin these days, but none has measured up to Cajun Steamer. What a great menu! I highly-recommend the boudin and the crawfish enchiladas.

We were craving seafood and thought we should stop by Cajun Steamer. It was a pleasant find. The New Orleans style interior was cool, and the ambiance is casual (there are people destroying crabs with their hands so it should be casual!) and relaxed. Large TVs are visible from most seats. We got the steamed seafood platter for two and pigged out. The shrimp were awesome, the crab was delicious but slightly over-steamed. The shellfish were good. The corn on the cob that came with the platter was cattle feed class and overcooked. It should be dropped or replaced. We also got a side salad. It was a good size, though a little wilted and the cucumbers seemed like they were sliced a day earlier. But who cares, the shrimp rocked and I ate close to a pound of them. Service was four stars and prices were right where I expected them to be. I'll be back to try happy hour when I'm in the area.

Suzy Halpin 16 minutes ago near Brentwood, TN We were really excited to head out tonight for dinner in Cool Springs. We are down from Chicago visiting friends here and we had 7 people coming to your restaurant for dinner. Ultimately , we had to leave before being seated after waiting for over an hour. Your three hostesses not only neglected to add our name to the list, but allowed us to check in no less than three times while we were waiting. Clearly, the hostesses did not have a plan for us because in the end, after every party was seated and we questioned them, we were told we were not on the list. It was a very strange response from your hostess team when I looked at them and asked them if they seriously could not remember us coming in, and checking back. We were standing literally 10 feet from the hostess stand and yet they almost pretended they had never seen us. And to top it off, one of the girls finally just threw her arms up and said, 'why don't you just leave'. So..... We did. Pretty much the rudest people I've ever encountered in a restaurant EVER.

Great Etouffee! This place has a laid back sort of atmosphere. We had great service and our waitress was very friendly. A co-worker recommended this place as we share a love of cajun food. He said I must get the crawfish enchiladas. That is exactly what I ordered since they were so highly recommended. I ordered etouffee for the side item. Everything was very good. I wish I would have read the menu closer. When I think of an enchilada I think of a corn tortilla. These are flour tortillas and they were good. I just prefer corn over flour. I can't wait to make a return visit to try the rest of their cajun dishes.

Very disappointing! The gator app was good. The main course was not edible. burnt maui maui yum.... We sat on the patio and one of the cooks thru something out the back door and a piece of broken glass hit a lady sitting next to us. Her husband asked him to apologize and the guy said NO?!?!?!?!? The manager took care of them but really? Wont be going back

This place reminds me of some of the really good spots in New Orleans and the taste... Seasoned SO WELL, but not overpowering. Every time I go back I try something new... Never disappointed.. And I love it more and more

I keep coming back but not because the food is great. That's weird right? I come back because they serve crawfish and my husband is a huge fan and it makes him happy. Anyway, I am a huge Cajun food fan and spent a great deal of my college life in New Orleans. I know it's possible to create good Cajun food outside of New Orleans but this place hasn't figured it out yet. I really hope they step it up so I don't have to suffer though more meals for the happiness of my husband but he is just so darn cute! Maybe I can just eat beignets? Their beignets are pretty good.

My wife and I read most of the reviews on Yelp, and decided to try this place out. We went in prepared to see scantily clad waitresses that give poor service, but the food reviews appeared worth it..... Sat immediately and greeted by a college aged girl, (wearing a tank top and normal looking jean shorts) who took our drink orders immediately and was friendly. She returned with the drinks and asked if we wanted to start with apps, we tried the bacon wrapped shrimp, and fried gator. We loved them both, it was my wife's first gator tasting and she was pleasantly surprised. When approached for our dinner order, I asked what she recommende (trying to see the poor services that has been brought up on here) she stated immediately "Talapia Rockerfeller". We opted for the steamer basket for two instead, but was pleased she was conversational and had a recommendation. The basket was huge, and tasty....Crab legs, mussles, peel and eat shrimp, oysters with potatoe and corn on the cob! We were very pleased with the flavoring of all of it, and the shimp and oyster sizes were impressive. She then offered dessert, we ordered the fried cheescake (dangerously delicious). She waited until we were done and asked if we were ready for the check. I want to pause here and say how pleased with our server I was, we ran her to death on tea refills and asking for wet naps. she never once balked, kept a smile on her face and did her job. Her name was Sarah M by the way (ask for her, you won't be let down). The price was what I expected with 2 apps, and entree for two, dessert and drinks. Right at $80. We will be adding this to our regular places to visit as the atmosphere was solid, food was great and the service was solid as well. I am arestaurant managment guy, so if I am going to be picky....No table touch by a manager, the bartender was facebooking with her back to the dining floor, and the hostess did not say goodbye....but that is just nitpickiing for the sake of pointing out that it's not perfect. We will become regulars here and I would recommend giving it a whirl.

Let me start by saying that we had slim pickings on a Sunday in Franklin. It felt like we had chains (GASP!) or this place. The food was really fine. It wasn't great or amazing or fun or explosive. It was just fine. I expect a bit more from cajun. I expect a party in my tummy (although we were just off YATS in Indy) I had the white fish blackened cajun style and my husband had some chicken skewers. The mashed potatoes were really good but I'm quite sure they were not gluten free but the waitress wasn't really sure and I assumed I should be fine. The stomach ache wasn't awful but I definitely didn't feel great. It was a good deal and they had drink specials and we left full.

If I could give this place less than one star, I would. I never write reviews...ever, but I felt compelled to for this place because I hate to see people throw money away if i can help them out. To put it mildly, the food at this place is awful! I'm not sure how or why they don't have more poor reviews, but I can only assume it's because those who think the food is good, have never had REAL cajun food. The beignets taste like nothing more than fried flour and water...they were nasty. I also had the oyster po'boy and it was the worst that I've ever had; tiny oysters out of a can, dripping with mustard...not remoulade...and almost an entire head of lettuce. The food had to be prepared by a child...it certainly tasted that way. I spent $27 (they added 10% gratuity on a to-go order for 1 person...that's a first time I've ever seen this before) for a sandwich and an order of beignets...what a waste of money for food that wasn't the least bit edible. I didn't even give the left overs to my dog...that's how bad it was. This place will close soon...good riddance!

The good news is, this place was fast enough to stop in for lunch during the work day...and I won't be back. If you go here, skip the fish, and get sides. Their sides are great, the slaw, dirty rice, fries, were all great. I was with my husband and a friend, she got the three sides meal (a great idea) and we got catfish poboys. The catfish was dark...fishy...not good, it smelled like it was the last day that fish was acceptable to serve, if not past it. I don't know if it was the smell or if it was in our heads, but my husband and I both felt kind of sick later, nothing crazy, just upset stomachs. Can't say we tried anything from the steamer that this place was named after, maybe that's the direction we should have gone. Won't be back to find out.

Stopped by for Happy Hour after work today because we were looking for some seafood and my friend is staying at the apartments right across the street. The menu was overwhelming because it had some much on it. The Happy Hour drink specials were pretty good. I got the $3 Margarita and it was pretty yummy. They have no food specials on their Happy Hour menu though. I got Fried oysters and fries and they were decent. I thought the price was a little high for what I got. My friend got the Tilapia Rockefeller and was satisfied. Because of other reviews we split the Beignets and that was a fantastic decision. We added Vanilla ice cream and they were definitely the highlight of our meal. They were fried to perfection and were light and airy. They were served with caramel sauce. All the desserts sounded delicious and we had trouble deciding which dessert we wanted to split. I fought the temptation to suggest they we try more than one. I was very happy with our Beignet decision. Our service was ok but nothing spectacular. With Puckett's Boathouse not far, I probably would not go out of my way to go here again.

First off my fiance is from New Orleans so if any so called Louisiana based restaurant tries to replicate any southern dishes from her home town that's not up to par....lets just say she takes it a Lil personal Ya Heard me!..lol But to my surprise she loved it! as well as I. I tried the chicken on top of garlic potatoes and mann it was delicious sonnn! I like how you have the option to sit upstairs or outside, but we choose inside. Staff was very friendly and checked on us often,..minus one star simply cause I should have tried some fish so its really on me!.

Finally tried this place after years of talking about it. I love NOLA and miss the food every time I come back. This place did NOT disappoint! I had the catfish & shrimp. Cajun Steamer, day 2... Still horrible service. The food really is exceptional, but the servers are to busy cutting their shorts shorter and oggling college boys to care what's happening to the patrons. Still, the creole is nice and spicy, and the cajun mashed potatoes will make you cry with joy. If food outweighs crappy service, this is the place to be...

I am teetering on giving this spot the coveted 5th star. The only reason why I hesitate is that the service can be poor every now and then. The food is absolutely outstanding. I highly recommend the Melvin's chicken. I honestly think I could eat it 5 times a week. One of those dishes that you just crave! They also have great fried crawfish tails and a good selection of beer. Great spot for lunch and dinner!

Stopped in two days in a row (yes, it was that good) during Wednesday/Thursday lunch and was able to get a seat quickly each time. Shared the Fire shrimp, Boudin, and Fried Crawfish tails appetizers. The Boudin was great. Had the blackened fish tacos with red beans side. Both great. The seafood gumbo was fresh and also very good. Will come back to try the other menu items

Went to this restaurant for the first time last night, hoping to get my creole fix since I've not been to Cajun country in a few years. Seafood had a pretty fishy taste, corn was mushy, and way too much spice/seasoning on the potatoes. I can handle heat, but that much Old Bay added nothing to the experience. This restaurant is worthy of the 3.5 star rating they currently have. I didn't absolutely hate it, but it certainly wasn't good enough to ever go back.

Pretty good place for a quick seafood meal and drink in Franklin. The blackened fish tacos are really good and so is the chicken. Three fried stuff was a little greasy.

The live music really warmed my heart, which was great because the food, while my experience was fine and food okay...this place just didn't win my heart. The Flounder Seafood Roulade was overly salted, even for a Cajun lemon-butter sauce dish, but the portions were huge and (once enough salt was removed and exposed the seafood core) was pretty filling and fulfilling. The Tilapia & Shrimp Rockefeller was a huge dish and was tasty, so I would honestly recommend that--and their Gumbo Ya Ya was overpowering on the smokiness... I couldn't really taste anything else from it.

Please save your money, and find another place. Really. (If you're college age, then the young female servers will be nice for you, but the food will not be...not worth the money, not even at 1/2-off)

We have been to the Cajun Steamer five times and every time has been excellent. Wait staff is always friendly, helpful with the menu and keeps our drinks full. We like it so much it's the first place we take family when they come. We get the alligator bites for our appetizer every visit, I highly recommend them if you enjoy spicy food. Even our daughter who's the pickiest eater in the family loves them. As for entrees, I've had the Fish Tacos, the Shrimp and Grits and several other items, all of which were so good that I'd order them again. The portion sizes are extra large, so expect to take something home for lunch the next day; we usually leave with leftovers. This is the only thing I could really knock them on; I'd prefer slightly lower prices and lower portion sizes.
