Absolutely beautiful area. Worth the drive anytime. I hate to say the food is good but not close to great. Met the propiertor , a very nice gentleman . Will go back definitely !!! Give this beautiful place a chance . I would invest $$$ on this property.Went back last week. Just a beautiful area. Food has improved some. Let's go a 4.5 and give nature a 5+++.

Went for a late lunch. They didnt seem to thrilled we were there probably because it was their down time. They were not too friendly, so we killed them with our charm until they gave in and got friendly. Well some of them. Food was good but not awesome. Prices were not as high as i thought. Got scared when we walked in and had to check menu before i sat down because it looked to fancy for our style. View was awesome. Well worth going for that and the drive up, but check it off the list. Been there done it once is enough. Dang, got bill and had to pay $1.50 for bottled water because they cant use tap water.

"5 stars for the PHENOMENAL VIEW alone!!!" The food & service was mediocre at best. Just the drive to the restaurant is beautiful. However, you can eat here by reservation ONLY. The bottom of the mountain is gated. You can't even drive up the mountain without a resevation either @ the restaurant or the lodge. Will most definitely be back.

Long drive for terrible, overpriced food. Too bad because the view is amazing. Expected something classy, definitely disappointed.

Food... Not so good. The view was better. Our reservation was for 1pm. We ordered from the lunch menu as that was the only thing they were serving. Three burgers a sandwich and an appetizer. Plus our drinks. Over $60!!! Bison burger was ok. Ribeye burger was also ok. But here is where it went downhill really quick. Pulled pork bbq sandwich, store bought from a tub. Chips is actually lays ruffled potato chips, handful. Side for burger was onions rings... Only 3. Appetizer was the sample platter. It had two small tenders, 4 onion rings and about 4 small mushrooms. Drinks also came in small drinking glasses that were very hard to keep filled. During the restaurant visit they show you a slideshow of the surrounding area. While it is beautiful there must have been over 15 pictures of the same nice waterfall. When we asked the owner of the mountain where this waterfall was, he explain, "Oh it's down the hill a little ways over there down that trail. It's also about four miles or more of a hike" needless to say, we were not about to hike a major trail after eating. Especially knowing that it was over 8 miles of walking. You must make reservations and you must also know ahead of time what you'll be doing. No info about the area and no one really knows anything about the area when we asked them. Rough terrain around the overlooks and if you take small walking children, HOLD their hand. Many areas are very high up with no banisters. It's a mothers nightmare.

I've heard amazing things about this place, so I decided to go. The view is worth the drive up there, by far. I could set on that deck and look at that view for days on end. Its simply breath-taking. No other words could describe it, in my opinion. It feels rather secluded and quiet, just you & your thoughts. The overlook is also beautiful and I enjoyed it just as much as the views from the restaurant. The next time I go, I'm planning on staying in the lodging quarters. I'd love to wake up amongst the fog or even some snow. For all of these reasons I recommend going. I doubt you'll regret it. BUT, the food was sorry. Nothing special and leaving a lot to be desired. They were out of the lunch special on the day that I went, so I settled for something else. I wish I had eaten before I went. The food was not the worst ever, but it tasted like anything I could make at home....from a bag in my freezer! My sister ordered a burger and it was massive and she said it was yummy as well-but its a burger for pete's sake. My mother ordered a steak-which was overpriced. Well I'm going in that direction, let me just start by saying EVERYTHING was overpriced. They charge WAY too much for the quality of food they offer. The chicken tenders tasted almost exactly like the chicken tenders that we eat at Six Flags when I take the kids there. I'm pretty sure Kroger sells them too, in the frozen section, lol. They were not busy when we arrived, it was about 2:30 in the afternoon. But we had to call the reservation desk and have them ring the kitchen, just in order for us to be seated. We'd been there for almost 18 minutes before we were even greeted. That should have been a sign right there. Our server was the best thing about our meal-she was sweet and attentive. I did ask a lot of questions that she answered. And when we asked her about some directions to another area on up the mountain she was unsure, but went and asked somebody and got us the directions. But while there, we were told the cook is apparently only working there because he had some sort of dealings with the actual construction of the restaurant-but I do not know what exactly. All I know is you could taste his inexperience through the food. The place is poorly decorated and not what you would expect for a supposedly higher end place. I realize the view is what your there for, but they could at least attempt something (hell, anything would be nice) on the inside. So should I go back to see those gorgeous views, which I will at some point-I will NOT, under any circumstance eat at that dreadful restaurant unless the menu and cooking staff have been replaced. A place of this caliber should have a chef-not just somebody who can throw some frozen food into a fryer. That would be my biggest suggestion and plea to the owner.

Went with my family to celebrate 3 birthdays. The view is amazing. The food, service, and pricing were horrible. We waited forever for our food. When it finally arrived they forgot my mothers. A bison burger. The waitress apologized and said it would be right out. 20 minutes later it finally arrived. Keep in mind: 20 diners max in entire dining room. The desert was lack luster at best. If you want a great steak try Ye Olde Steak House. Great burger? Stock and Barrel or Tupelo Honey Cafe

The view is breathtaking. My husband I rode the motorcycle up the mountain for dinner tonight. It was a crystal clear early evening and the smokey mountains were clearly visible. We both had the ribeye. It was very tender and tasty. The rolls seemed to be homemade yeast rolls. Yummy. I also had the side salad with blue cheese crumbles and raspberry vinegarette dressing. I had the loaded baked potato. Potato came out naked and all of the condiments were in covered plastic individual serving cup. -- my preference would have been for them to be ready to eat. (Not a big deal, but its a little detail) They serve beer, but can not serve wine. You may, however, bring your own. We passed on dessert, although it looked delicious. There is an outside seating area, but we have never been there when food is being served on the patio. Not sure if that is for parties or what. We have been several times. This was the best yet!! Little details make all the difference between a restaurant and a high end restaurant. Dimming the lights. Slowing down the dinner--- after all, the view will keep the patrons happy. Serving the salad on a plate instead of a small bowl. (Salad was very nice though) Prices are very reasonable. you can have a burger for around $10 bucks or have a nice steak upwards from $18. All in all, I love McClouds. Nice change of pace from the other places in town.

Unique in its location and views, McCloud Mountain Restaurant is a mountain-top restaurant perched atop the Cumberlands with a panoramic view that stretches as far as the Smoky Mountains. The restaurant is casual dress and is open to the public (by reservation only). Our menu is very diverse, ranging from salads and chicken... to prime rib and lobster tails. Nightly specials range from country dishes and seafood to smoked dishes from our deck mounted smoker.
