Went on Wednesday for the beef brisket, which was very, very good. The process for ordering and serving the food could be a little better, but this was our first time there. If we went a second time, we'd know what to expect... Would definitely go again.

Prices are reasonable but the best things there are not on the menu but on the walls. They contained interesting memorabilia with clever and humorous signs. The Side choices are only three: the potato salad is tasteless: the cole slaw bland: the baked beans- tasty. Get the beans for sure. I Had the brisket which was pretty sparse for $7.99. But tasty. From our table mates, the ribs and BBQ got a B+. It's a one time only place.

Sorriest excuse for a Restaurant I have ever been to. Brisket all day so the sign on the door read, Guess what they were out with almost 2 hours left till close. So we ordered a potato with pork BBQ, potato was cold as was the pork, Why would you serve a customer cold food when you have already failed to deliver on an all day special FALSE ADVERTISEMENT. Save your money and go anywhere else.

In town visiting stopped in to BBBBQ at the end of the night (they close at 7:30 for crying out loud!) Anyway I digress, we ordered the special brisket of the day - they give you a lot of meat product which was very fatty and tasted only fair. The sides were very good - beans and tater salad and good sauce. The counter girl was a little rude and becasue we stayed inside and ate while they closed up (we had asked if it was ok and she said her boss wouldn't let her tell us to leave - nice), we didn't just hang around - but she starts yelling to someone on her cell phone about the people who won't leave - that would be us I guessed. Well, not only did we leave but we won't go back either - hah! I'm sure this girl was tired and doesn't really understand the service industry.... maybe a different line of work would be good for her like................? PS. I gave her a rather large money tip to cheer her up - didn't work.

Went for some holiday BBQ. I had doubts when I walked in & couldn't smell the smoke from the pit/smoker/grill. It was ok. I had the the half smoked chicken. It didn't have much smoke taste but it was ok. The sauce was good, choose mild, sweet or hot. I'm spoiled when it comes to BBQ so I'm a little biased. They have plenty of regulars so "Big Boys" is doing something right.

I was down here golfing. This area is primarily older retirees. There aren't a lot of options for BBQ down in this particular area of Tennessee and this one is conveniently located on the main road that runs through the resort area of Fairfield Glade. Let me start that I wouldn't quite put this place on par with some of the top tier Michgian BBQ's such as Slows in Detroit or West Texas BBQ in Jackson but often with BBQ it is highly dependent on the style you like so I'm sure some people would disagree with me. That being said this place isn't bad and when I'm down there I'll go anytime I have a craving for BBQ as I feel they put out a pretty good product at a good value. I've got their ribs as well as the pulled pork here. I've enjoyed both. The ribs seemed like spare ribs to me and I generally prefer baby back. The reason is because spare ribs often have the potential of being fattier and having cartilage while baby backs generally are a little more moist and even throughout. I just find that baby backs usually are more tender, again everyone has their own preference so I'm sure there are some who prefer spare ribs over baby back. That being said their ribs are more than adequate and you get a lot for what you pay for. There is no wait service here. You place your order at the counter and then are called to get your food, kind of the way Buffalo Wild Wings used to be. I don't mind it but would prefer waiter service. In regards to the restaurant itself I like the way it is decorated with all of the license plates. The times I've been I've noticed local country boys there so obviously the food meets their approval too. The sides that come with the BBQ have all been good and the portions are big. I feel this place is going for the more bang for your buck strategy which makes sense being located around senior citizens who often can be quite frugal. It's definitely cheaper than the BBQ spots I've been in Michigan. I wish they had beer but I'm sure being in TN alcohol licenses aren't the easiest to come by. This particular area has some different alcohol laws that most Yankees would not be used to. I would love to have an ice cold beer with my BBQ but you can't hold that against the restaurant though. Honestly I think it's pretty solid so I'd rate it a 3.5 but since that isn't an option I'll rate it a 4 because it's closer to a 4 than a 3. Pretty much your best option if you're vacationing down in Fairfield Glade.

Ambience was precious with lots of antiques and playful charm. We had the ribs. They were rubbed to perfection and the sauce on the side wasn't too sweet. Beans had a hint of something - couldn't decide if it was maple syrup or sorghum. They were addictive. I'm not a big slaw fan either, but this version wasn't annoyingly sweet. Definitively a new favorite.

The Girlfriend and I stopped in here while on a recent trip to Fairfield Glade... I picked this place because I'm a big fan of BBQ and I was in the mood for some good BBQ. It's a nice little place and it appeared to be well kept. Everything was neat and clean. There are a lot of knick knacks (mostly signs with funny messages on them), but it's not over crowded. It kind of reminded me of a a more lively (and updated) Cracker Barrel. Someone here is an Auburn fan, (made obvious by the numerous Auburn decor pieces around), which I especially enjoyed as well. We were helped right away... since we didn't know the menu, we were offered some paper menus to look over while we decided. Once we were ready, we placed our order and sat down to wait for our food. Soon our order was ready and our name was called. The food was packed in Styrofoam to-go containers, which seemed a little wasteful for someone eating right there in the restaurant.... When I opened up the container, I was surprised to see how much food there was. It was a good sized portion of meat and a couple of large portions of side items. Despite it being a slow time of day, the pork was moist and delicious. The potato salad was almost as good as home-made! What I was disappointed in was the amount of sauce that comes with it... I like a lot of sauce on my pork and it seemed like I just had a light drizzling of it. The Girlfriend got one of their baked potato specials... there was so much there, that she couldn't eat it all... I tried to help, but even I was full after a few bites! Big Boy's is definitely a good place for your BBQ fix, just remember to ask for extra sauce!

My parents and I came down to crossville Tennessee from New York and were really excited to try some "southern BBQ". I have to say we were very disappointed. We ordered the bulk half chicken which was decent... But it had not the slightest smoky taste. We also ordered a full rack of ribs which were virtually inedible due to the extreme amount of fat and lack of meat. They had no corn bread, which I was particularly upset about. The baked beans and coleslaw however, were great. I have to say though, the barbecue in New York is out of this world compared to what we just ate today.

This is my second review of this establishment. My first review was not that great. This time we got the half slab and they were fantastic. They were huge and tender and we got enough to have some for dinner the next day. Highly recommend. I would like to see them change their operation a little bit to a sit and be served situation. Also, the recommendation someone had for them to spend some more time noticing their trash can being full did not take. The trash can was overflowing and there was no room to put our trash in the container. Maybe if the customers just left their stuff on the tables they would get the message. I think that is what I will do next time I go there and the trash is not emptied.

This place is good, or should I say GOOD. Ribs and brisket are tender and flavorful. Sides, while limited to the basics (coleslaw, potato salad, bakes beans), are very delicious. There's more meat than bean in the baked beans, which is a good thing in my book. I'm sure the pulled chicken and catfish are delish, too, I just haven't tried them yet. The only point for improvement I could suggest is considering not using styrofoam for dine-in. During the lunch rush the trash needs to be switched out several times due solely to diners devouring their amazing meals and then dumping the barely-used containers in the trash. Seems needlessly wasteful, but a easy point to improve upon. BBQ is one of those dishes that certain people have intensely personal relationships with, therefore they have very strong reactions when a sauce doesn't fit the exact flavor profile they are used to having, or the meat is served naked so that you can dress it to your own liking. In my humble opinion, these are the same people that complain that there's no snow on Christmas and then when it does snow, they whine that it's not the right type. Big Boy's BBQ makes a mean BBQ, whether or not it's exactly like what you're used to is a moot point. It's honestly good food and that's all that matters.

My cousin and I stopped at this place while retuning from a weekend trip to Memphis and Nashville. We wanted something aside from the typical chain restaurant fare located just off the interstate exits. The five mile drive off of I40 we felt was worth it. We both ordered the pulled pork plates. The portions were extremely generous....more than we each could finish. Having just eaten BBQ in Memphis, we still felt this was very very good BBQ. The pork was moist, without fat, and as I mentioned....plenty of it! As mentioned by other reviewers, the decor is entertaining as well. Tastefully arranged and one could spend a good bit of time looking at all of the collections.

Had the ribs and their "big baked potato" Pretty darn good! Not sure why they do the order/pick up at the counter thing vs having a waitress but I was there for a good meal and I got it! The big baked potato was a meal in it's self & has pork or chicken with cheese and tastes de-lish! Would choose this place over the other BBQ joint on Pevine any day!

Worth the five miles from I-40. Great prices and decent quality with friendly service and homey atmosphere. Lots of good food for very low prices.

About half of our slab of ribs was only slightly more tender than shoe leather. It was inedible. I don't know if this was just a bad batch of ribs, but I'm not going to find out. Also, the ribs and pulled pork are served dry. I don't understand why they don't cook the ribs with sauce - cold bbq sauce just ruins the meal. So disappointed!

Great barbecue! I had the baked potato with pulled pork-fantastic. My husband had the ribs - tender and delicious. Cool decor. Definitely try this place!

I can't believe there aren't any reviews for this place! This is the best bbq on the plateau...they have been around for atleast 7 years or longer....try the loaded baked potato..I dont know where they get these potatoes but they are huge....topped with chicken or pork...cheese, chives, butter.....sour cream and sauce on the side..the best sauce is mild and hot combined to make a medium ...they have sweet sauce too, which my hubby loves.... They also have delicious pulled pork sandwiches or chicken...you can top it with your favorite sauce or even coleslaw....don't forget the ribs...these bad boys are loaded with meat...dipped in your favorite sauce...heavenly! The decor is cool you could sit and observe quite a while...from the license plates to the airplane's....this family owned business also gives back to the community....just check out the plaques on the wall... I wish we had a Big Boy's in my hometown!

The family and I were finishing out our week long vacation and wanted to experience a restaurant that we couldn't find back home. Overall we had a good time, but admittedly it wasn't what we had anticipated. (that's not bad, just a fact is all) There were 5 of us. My daughter got the chicken fingers with hush puppies and fries, wife and mom got potatoes, and myself and another family member got the half rack with 2 sides meal with sweet sauce. Pros: Folks were friendly, service was quick, food was hot, place appeared clean. Dining-room was active, but not annoyingly so. Also enjoyed the memorabilia which seemed to be a collection of aircraft/flight enthusiasm, Coca Cola, a bit of Pepsi Cola, and travel ( I based the travel statement on the fact that license plates decorate the perimeter of the location... although we only counted 49 plus 1 from South Australia). On a side note 1962 and even more so 1964 must be important years as the plates were mostly from 64 with a few 62 interspersed. Didn't have to leave a tip at table, although we did leave a few dollars in the tip jar at the counter. Family seemed to enjoy the potatoes and the chicken fingers. Cons (aren't horrible, but weren't "Pros"): We arrived at 5pm (or near to) local time and the place was jumping and the order/waiting area got a tad backed up. Didn't take terribly long to clear... maybe 10 mins, but it was the first thing we experienced. Was a bit surprised that we placed orders and had our name called to pick order up. Had read reviews before deciding on this restaurant, but just not use to the practice and it felt weird. The biggest thing really came down to the ribs for me. I don't consider myself a ribs man or even a connoisseur of fine foods. That said I have had my share of ribs and these were "OK." I had really hoped to be blown away by the sauce and the meats, but I wasn't. The meat actually had quite a few pieces of cartilage, small knuckle like bones, and then a bit of slimy gristle. There was enough quality meat to make the meal taste good, but I am not use to this in ribs I have enjoyed previously. (at least not ribs I consider to be top quality whether beef or pork.) Bottomline: The food tasted ok to good. If I was in the area and wanted ribs I would likely give the place my business again so long as I hadn't come across something that truly knocked my socks off rib-wise at another local place. I'd also be interested in trying their brisket. Additionally, I have to give a nod to the fact that there appeared to be quite a few regular patrons that were coming in to pick up orders to go as well as plenty of folks staying to dine in. Any business that can draw repeat customers has to be doing several things right in my mind. I would recommend anyone at least try the food and see what their own opinion would be.
