We eat here about once a week and have never been disappointed. This is real authentic Mexican food. It's a far cry from the standard franchised Mexican restaurants. Everything from the rice and salsa to the Horchata is prepared fresh daily, in house. The Queso dip is not to be missed. I've enjoyed every menu item from their extensive, freshly prepared menu that I have ordered. Some favorites include Monterrey fish, Popeye Chicken and the seafood burrito. La Parilla also features a full service bar and a nice selection of draft and bottled beers. Once you've enjoyed authentic Mexican dishes, such as the delights served at this fine establishment, you'll never look back.

Excellent food. Great service. Large beers. Can't beat it in Turkey Creek. It's our go to restaurant with the kids. Never had a bad meal here.

We needed a quick meal in our travels. This fit the bill AND the food was authentic tasting Mexican! Pork carnitas were excellent. My husband enjoyed the beef tamale and taco. Refried beans and rice were okay (which honestly is also authentic Mexican :)

I'm only giving two stars, because I do like the food, just not the service. I have order from there a few times, takeout, and almost every time my order is wrong. I ordered today, and as expected , it was wrong. The lady didn't offer to fix it. She just kept telling me what was ordered. I order for a group of people at work. We called back and she told us that they would have fixed it if I had asked. I told her twice that it was wrong. She should have insisted on fixing it. It would have been fine if it only happened occasionally, but this is ridiculous. I won't be ordering there again. I don't think the other staff will be either.

"Best fajitas of my whole life.... I don't think I can ever go to another Mexican restaurant without being disappointed. You know it's good when you crave it." Honest quote from my fiancé. If you get anything other than the Fajita Molcajetes you're absolutely doing it wrong and we can not be friends. (Don't quote me on that spelling btw) If it's your first time or your 50th time here, you have GOT to try those fajitas. Sure, they have the normal, run of the mill, 5 pieces of meat on a boring flat plate fajitas, BUT they also have these absolutely crazy, amazing, perfect in every way, fajitas that come in a massive stone bowl with all the ooey gooey goodness overflowing! The Fajita Molcajetes, ladies and gentlemen! *oooh ahhh* The single serving is massive (the two of us hardly make a dent in it) and packed full of beef!, pork!, chicken!, shrimp!, onions!, peppers!, cheese! All the things!! AND here's a little something adventurous for you, it has a chunk of cactus hanging out on the side. Sure it's not for everyone, but give it a shot! Pro tip: save some of your queso for the tacos you'll make out of the fajitas. Amaze! And no Atlanta people, this is not the La Parilla you're looking for. This is a totally different run than the ones back home, so don't expect those thin flour chips (miss those so much) or la Parilla dip.

Typical mexican food and menu. Has a nice atmosphere and the staff was very friendly. I ordered the carne asada which did not appear to be a very good piece of meat (not bad per se just mediocre) such as the diez millo but had pretty good seasoning. Their horchata was pretty good though. Made for a nice dessert to go. Swing by if your in the area and crave the mexican-american cuisine.

My son is not a fan of Mexican cuisine, however, he is a fan of La Parilla. He loves their El Coyote burrito. The burrito is huge and stuffed to bursting point with steak, chicken, shrimp. Last order I had Fajitas Texanas and the flavor was good, but not overly exciting. I'm just not a big fajita fan. I am, however, a big fan of margaritas so I give their Monster Lime mugs ++

Pretty good Mexican food. Presently surprised wasn't really planning on eating here but after a stop after shopping I turkey creek it was a welcome relaxation after a day of shopping. Re fried beans were a little too thin for me with not much seasoning. Burrito had a lot of flavor- very good! Margaritas were good not too strong and not too much sweet and sour. Will be back!

We came here on a Saturday night, wanting to get a quick, casual dinner. Due to the incredible overload of choices at Turkey Creek, we settled on a food genre and went from there. We have La Parrilla in Atlanta, which is pretty good, so I think I had that thought in my mind when we settled on this joint. Plus, the reviews looked pretty good, and hubby was intrigued by mexican pork ribs. On we went. We walked by Seasons and I almost changed my mind - I wish I had. The outdoor seating with white tablecloths, beautiful jazz music, and glasses of wine looked perfect, but we went on to La Parrilla. As soon as we opened the door, I should have turned around. The interior looks and smells like every other mexican restaurant you've been to, and the soundtrack is the same too (and it was blaring here). Nothing unique or special and definitely not the same as the La Parrilla chain in ATL. Luckily, they had an outdoor seating area and we were instantly seated. We sat outside and that was the best part of our experience since it was such a nice night out. Our waiter brought us chips and salsa and I ordered a raspberry margarita, to which he responded, "We have those?" so I pointed on the menu and got one on the rocks. It was okay - really just super sweet raspberry syrup; I couldn't even taste the tequila. I do not recommend. We ordered the guacamole mexican, which was really really good. It came with cucumber slices and you got to mix it at your table. The flavors were super fresh and delicious. YUM. This was the highlight of our meal and the only item I recommend. I should pause here to note that the chips were cold and thick and the salsa was not spicy and very heavy on the cumin. It made it easy not to gorge on chips and salsa pre-dinner. They were nothing special at all. I wish they had a hot salsa... I ordered shrimp fajitas and hubby got the pork ribs. Sigh. My shrimp fajitas were fine - it was a HUGE portion, but there was no terrific flavor on the shrimp, and there was no char on the shrimp either - they seemed more stewed in to the tomatoes than crispy, grilled fajita shrimp like I have received at similar mexican restaurants. I've definitely had better shrimp fajitas and shrimp tacos elsewhere so this was a bummer. The rice and beans were also flavorless. My entire meal just seemed to lack seasonings, which is so weird since the guacamole had delicious flavor. Hubby was very disappointed in the ribs. They were parboiled and then covered in a yummy flavorful green chile. The texture was just off. If they had been parboiled, then grilled, and then topped with that yummy sauce, they would have been terrific. As they were, they were mushy meh. Both of us didn't come close to finishing our plates - we really should have split an entree due to the portion size. Worse, even without finishing it all, we both felt very full and gross afterwards. As we left, I asked hubby to remind me that unless I'm eating a taco salad (i.e. only lettuce and protein - no rice or beans) or 1-2 tacos, I really shouldn't eat at mexican restaurants like this anymore. There's nothing worse than feeling icky on a Saturday night because of your dinner. And here's why I'm downgrading LP from a 2 start to a one star rating: my husband, with his stomach of steel, got horrible food poisoning from those ribs. I had eaten everything else as him all day, even at LP, except for the ribs, and I didn't get sick aside from feeling bloaty and gross. They just didn't look good and now we know why... Severe vomiting, uncontrollable shaking cramps, fever, the works (posting that tidbit more for the EIS officers that monitor foodborne illness across our country than for my yelpers...). Not worth it! With all the other restaurants at Turkey Creek, I wouldn't recommend this place at all, unless you just reallllllllllllllllllllllly need some cheapo mexican food or want to sit outside with some really good guacamole and beer. If your food looks suspicious, be warned - you could get sick!

My business partner decided to do some work here in the back corner of the bar. As I went to meet her I felt transformed. The low volume music and the fans blowing with the warm air made you feel like you were in Mexico. The bonus to this place is Modelo on tap! You never get that on tap. I had two! Will go back for sure.

After eating lunch there on Sunday (3/8/15), I got food poisoning. I had the Carnitas, and after I bit into it I knew I should have sent it back, but I generally don't complain or send food back. The pork was incredibly dried out and only mildly warm, indicating to me that it must have been left under a heat lamp for too long. As a result, I was incredibly ill the following two days. My husband also tried a bite of it, and he told me that on his stomach didn't feel 'quite right' either. I wouldn't recommend it. The salsa also tasted like something from a jar. Meh.

This is not my favorite Mexican restaurant in Knox, but Abuelo's in Farragut is simply not an option. Plus happy hour runs until 7:00. Sweet! The prices are decent and the menu is actually pretty vast. I got the Degollado (I think) and it was fajita style chicken with rice and beans. It was good, but a bit salty. The salsa was great, but I wasn't a fan of the ranch type dressing they also brought with the chips. Anywho, go and enjoy. It's a small family restaurant that meets your Mexican food cravings while shopping in Turkey Creek.

La Parilla definitely started my love for Mexican food! I live in NYC now and still prefer La Parilla over the dozens of Mexican restaurants I've been to here. La Parilla has great homemade salsa and chips. Their unlimited chimichanga lunch special, so good!! The arroz con pollo is absolutely delicious, the best I've ever had by far!

La Parilla has an excellent Mexican menu. The food is a little less authentic, but it's still a great little quiet place with a friendly staff and a nice range of drink specials. Afternoons are a good time to go. There's usually a soccer game on with a little music, and it's rarely packed. The mojarra frita is something you might not immediately notice, but if you've never had this, try it. It looks a little unusual but it very much worth the try. They do a good job with salsas and the carnitas are excellent. The enchiladas poblanas are good if you like mole. I've never really been a fan of fajitas, but when my wife gets them everything is fresh (I eat her tomatoes and onions). The Quesadilla Fajita was excellent. Very flavorful and the chicken was not dried out like it so often is. My wife got the Fajitas and really enjoyed them. Their patio is great, with a choice of covered or open sections. Salsa is very thin, not chunky, which is the way I like it, although I guess some people would prefer the other. Food was ok, not very flavorful. Service was mediocre. I found myself waiting for refills quite often. Price was over what I would expect. The menu prices weren't bad but the $1.99 for this and $1.99 for that added up to nearly $40 for two.

My wife and I have quietly been looking for a new go-to Mexican restaurant in the area. We've been going to Azul Tequila on Kingston for years, back when it was El Centinella. In recent history, the experience has waned; most of their wait staff left and the place has a very different feel to it. We've found a new standard in La Parilla. The food is everything I'd hope for in a Mexican restaurant. The drinks menu is no joke - they take their tequila seriously and it shows. I love their patio; it's covered and walled in, so you're outside without the occasional adverse problems of eating outside like sun glare or traffic noise. The service leaves a little to be desired as far as attentiveness goes, but in the few visits we've made before this view, I never felt that it was bad. The wait staff is friendly and adaptable, and can relate to your party whether you're wanting a quiet meal or a raucous celebration. I expect we'll be back here again and again.

A friend and I stopped in for lunch on a Monday, Labor Day. Not the busiest place that day which was nice. So, we are sitting in a booth in the bar area. I see the bartender juicing limes for a mixed drink. He sneezes directly on the handheld juicer with the lime in it, not once, not twice, but three times. Not in the vicinity, but directly on it. He finishes juicing the limes in the drink and serves the drink. I feel awful that i did not see who got the drink so i could have warned them. The service was terrible. It took roughly 90 minutes to place an order, get food and get the bill. They were not busy. I had a taco salad and a chimichanga. The salad was oozing with beef grease. The outside layer of the chimichanga was good. Unfortunately the inside was very greasy like the salad. The guacamole was fine. Chips, were subpar. Salsa was good. I asked at least five times for the bill. The cashier overcharged me, but luckily he could not count and gave me too much change back. I am pretty sure I will not be back, but if I do, I won't forget to bring the kleenex.

This restaurant is in Turkey Creek and is my favorite Mexican Restaurant in Knoxville. They offer unique and traditional menu choices and has the best Chimichanga in Knoxville ( I choose to have mine fried with steak). They always have great coupons and the food is simply Yummy! Yes, I said Yummy!

This was probably the worst Mexican restaurant I've ever eaten at. The 2nd star is for service alone (which was satisfactory). The food was bland, greasy, and gave me the worst indigestion I've ever had in my life (let's just say I spent a great deal of time going to and from the bathroom). Would Not recommend.

The wait staff is friendly and adaptable, and can relate to your party whether you're wanting a quiet meal or a raucous celebration. I expect we'll be back here again and again.

Definitely better than the average. Flavors were nice and well differentiated. Vegetarian dishes were a welcome surprise. Will come back on our next pass through the area.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
