I love this little place. Love the soups, salads (especially the cherry. Goat cheese one on dinner menu), eggplant sandwich, and tuna salad sandwich.

The food was good. There was no front hostess; it looked like the hostess was also the waitress and maybe the dishwasher. Service was slow and she seemed as though she had too many things on her mind other than customer service.

We've been several times since our last "questionable" visit and it's back to great service and consistent food.

This is pretty much the only deal in down if you want great food. Everything I've ever ordered has been fabulous, and the service is always efficient and friendly. The atmosphere is cozy (a little too cozy on busy days), and it's the go to place for my group of friends. They serve dinner on Friday and Saturday nights, in addition to have small live performers. I you're looking for "down home Southern cooking," don't go here. This food is way too healthy to fall under that category. ;-)

Great Sunday brunch. Great service. Nice location on the square.

Breakfast..served two things. breakfast burrito or scrambled vegetable eggs on a croissant. It was pretty basic and not much their. No fruit, no side, just the sandwich...Not impressed. Also had the blackberry cobbler, not to be mean but it was the worst cobbler I've ever eaten. The crust was whole wheat and tasted very much like raw wheat flour and their was barely any filling. It was maybe a quarter cup of cobbler and a few tablespoons of ice cream I paid extra for. Maybe lunch is better. The service was good. Our waitress was very nice and kept telling us how good the food was, I just smiled.

We really enjoyed our meal here. It is tucked away in a corner of the square in Columbia (or rather traffic circle) with a red-striped awning. It was busy for lunch, but we got in. Totally worth it. We had some sandwiches and paninis and even chocolate cake, key lime pie, and pecan pie.

Offering a surprisingly complex and complete menu, this little gem is unassumingly tucked away in a corner of the Columbia Courthouse Square. The food is quite good and worth the visit.

Driving from Nashville to Tuscaloosa we decided to stop here for lunch. Loved it! It was a Monday around one and there were enough people in there to not be awkwardly quiet but wasn't too busy. We ate the Club Panini, Tomato and Asparagus (I think) Soup, Blackened chicken sandwich. All meals were delicious. The desserts looked great as well but we were too stuffed to indulge. The ladies working there were so friendly and attentive. Only complaint is that it took a little bit for us to get serviced at the beginning but wasn't way too long. And when our waitress realized she was sure to compensate. Loved it all and highly recomend this lovely mom and pop restaurant.

Hands down the best place to eat in Columbia! Food is always fresh & well prepared & service is excellent!!! You will not be disappointed.

Located in the charming downtown square of Columbia, TN, the county seat of Maury County and ancestral home of the eleventh president of the United States, James K. Polk, the Square Market & Cafe is a special slice of heaven. I live on the west coast and have only visited this part of the country three times. During each visit I have had dinner here-- and each time the meals (and dessert) have been a cut above with service to match. I don't know if they serve lunch or breakfast but I am assuming they do. There often is live music in the evenings as well so it is a great night out. If you are in this charming town, this is THE place to have a meal.

I love this place! Nice and simple with a very homey feeling. Great food, fantastic service. Recommend the Tennessee Hot Brown sandwich--just bursting with flavor. Hope they stay in business for many years to come!

Very nice good food and excellent service

Ordered in for a team meeting. Co-worker recommended GRANBERRY CHICKEN SALAD SANDWICH on Croissant with Queso Soup. Chicken Salad was very good (I'm pretty picky about what I like in mine) and croissant tasted fresh. Queso soup tasted a lot like a thin Rotel Cheese dip. I'm not sure what exactly the topping for the soup was but it made it even better.

My Meet Up Group ate here for one of our outings. It's a great, small town restaurant. Food is decent. Nothing really blew me away but still it's a fun place to go to get a sense of the downtown community and have a good meal. Service was good. Waitress was a tad disorganized but we had a lot of people. Looking forward to trying the truffles.

Let me start by saying we didn't meet our server until we were getting up ready to leave I'll keep this short and just say that I was beside myself the way the server treated us when we asked if she was our server. The chicken salad was dry and that's about it.

Chicken salad and chicken wrap were delicious. Wonderful little small town cafe with very nice people.

Good soup and sandwich with homemade dessert place. I really like their tomato artichoke soup and chicken salad. Didn't much care for their "steamer" sandwich. Easily the best place on the square in my opinion.

In the interests of full disclosure, my wife's ancestors owned the north side of the square. So, we are back doing family history at the Maury County archives and wanted a lunch break. This place is way popular! They have a soup and salad combo which is excellent but I really love the Rachel Reuben. Good service but be prepared to wait during the lunch rush--well worth it, though....

Had lunch here today. Had the chicken salad on a croissant and my partner the turkey panini. While the sandwiches are a little pricey the quality and quantity made up for it. Nice atmosphere at lunch. I believe they are now serving dinner with a limited menu. If we had not had Open Table reservations at Puckett's we would have come back. Service was friendly and efficient. Again another non-chain winner.

What a wonderful place. I found it on yelp and tried the minestrone and a tuna melt. Great food, good hospitality. I'll be back for more.

Love this place! Great sandwiches and desserts....have a petit four if they are available! Cute place with friendly staff

Nice attractive place. Good service. Beware the breakfast menu! No scones, no cinnamon rolls. To quote server, "I don't know why that's on the menu." Also, the croissant that I did order wasn't fresh. Dry. That only leaves Texas toast for a breakfast bread. On the plus side, the omelette was good.

This pleasant eatery is a big improvement over the chains and plain southern food around Columbia. The artichoke tomato soup is delicious. There are plenty of vegetables well prepared, like the grilled veg panini. The homemade blackberry cobbler is worth the trip. Live music on weekends that is quiet enough to enjoy with dinner, and classy. Last time we were there they had a really good jazz trio. Very uptown but casual.
