What thai restaurant messes up Pad Thai? Mediocre at best. That is all.

Had a bit of a bad lunch. The Tom Yum came out cold and so salty it was gross. The waitress was super nice about it and quickly brought out a Tom Kha. It was much better than the previous soup but nothing spectacular. It's a decent lunch for a fair $7 though.

First impressions from a first visit, started with the northern Thai dip. It was super yummy and pleasantly spiced, liked it so much we wanted more naan (actually pita but no biggie). Next we ordered Tom kha, one large one small. Soup arrived and the large was promptly spilt all over my dining companion. Probably for the best since it wasn't really that good. Coconut milk, limited chicken, mushrooms, scallions and not much else; under flavored and under spiced, will not be getting that again. Next onto the main course massaman curry. One word, yuck. Uncooked onions half the size of Tennessee, 4 pieces of chicken, new potatoes with the skin on (a first in the many Thai places we've eaten), charred peanuts. We sent it back it was so bad. As to service... It requires a separate paragraph. Arrived about 645, asked what the happy hour deals were, having scoped out their menu online, and was informed that happy hour ended at 630. Our waitress was friendly enough, until spilling the soup and from then on was mostly vacant. After sending the curry back, she brought us our check. This was when we were informed that there was a new cook in the kitchen and several people had sent dishes back this evening. I'm going out on a limb but think maybe he shouldn't be left alone in a kitchen.

I love Thai food and the food here is nothing short of amazing! It's a must to try this location out. It's the closest commute to a Thai restaurant in my neighborhood so I try to eat as much as I can when I'm here. I recommend the pad kee mow (it's normally very spicy, but you can get it as mild as possible) or the cashew nut chicken. They also sell sushi, but I just go for Thai. They have pretty good lunch special prices as well

This has become my boyfriend and I's favorite place to enjoy a Thai meal. I personally love when they have their seafood special with a shrimp, fish and scallops all piled on top of their curried vegetables. It is on the pricey side, but it's worth the money every time!

This is honestly my favorite Thai restaurant out of the handful that I have managed to find in the area. I do not know how authentic it is, but I do know that the service has always been friendly and excellent and the food is consistently good. It is a little expensive, but not more so than other Thai places so I don't see that as a problem. The curry is amazing. I usually stick to the curries but the boss, who is incredibly friendly, suggested Pad Kraprow with pork one time when I felt like trying something different. I don't usually like pork but this was so succulent I was amazed and would definitely get it again. I tried the Pad Thai because of a number of people suggesting I try Pad Thai in general. It was a little off one time but the other two times it has been amazingly good. In fact I currently crave it instead of curry (don't worry curry- I'll come back to you eventually!). I've recently come to realize I prefer Pad Thai with pork at spicy level 7 to really appreciate the flavor. If I have had a lot of spicy food then level 10 works but when not I prefer 7. The Pad Thai with Beef was surprisingly good as it is made with angus beef. The Chef's Fried Rice is super sweet and tastes really good without spice. I may try it super spicy one day but I think it's good as is. The sushi here is really good as well. My fav (and my fam's fav) is the Bomb Roll. I tried the Memphis Roll recently and found out I don't like actual eel! Or at least I didn't like it on top! It's chewy and has an untasty flavor by itself. I haven't had much experience with the salads but the Green Salad Mom tried recently wasn't any good. The dressing was awesome but it was just spinach and greens. When it comes to curry this is how I basically feel: - Red and Panaang curries: Great flavors, excellent choices to go all the way to level 10 spiciness. I always eat it with chicken. - Yellow: Has a really distinctive flavor that can be ruined by too much spice. I recommend level 5 or less. I've had this with chicken and tofu and both are pretty good. - Massaman: This curry has a very light flavor and is best kept at spicy level 0-3. People with peanut allergies beware: contains nuts. - Green: I actually dislike this curry. I don't really enjoy the flavor and its burn slowly builds over time after you have eaten your last bite and is hard to counteract. - Jungle: I thought I would like this one because it is just spice, but since it doesn't have coconut milk, it doesn't have any real flavor to it (to me anyway). The boss told me it's what a lot of Thai people were eating over in Thailand (he had just gone to visit), so if you're looking for authentic give it a shot. I however will stick to the curries with coconut milk in them. ***I would like to warn any vegetarians or vegans: the curry here is made with fish sauce! They will make it without it if you ask, so speak up! (I've also noticed in recipes online that the Pad Thai is often made with fish sauce so you may want to check that as well). I have tried at least half of the menu. My favorites include: - Bomb Roll - Chef's Fried Rice (chicken spicy level 0) - Crab Rangoon - Crab Wontons - Fusion Roll - Pad Kraprow (pork spicy level 10) - Pad Thai (beef medium, spicy level 4) - Pad Thai (pork spicy level 7) - Panaang Curry (chicken spicy level 10) - Red Curry (chicken spicy level 10) - Rock-N-Roll - Sampler Tray - Shrimp Hompa - Shrimp Tempura - Spicy Crawfish - Tempura Broccoli - Yellow Curry (chicken spicy level 5) Ok: - California Roll (ok with soy sauce) - Crispy Spring Roll - Gyoza - Lobster Roll - Massaman Curry (chicken spicy level 3) - Northern Thai Noodle & Chicken Curry - Pad Thai (chicken spicy level 10) - Panaang Curry with Pork - Redbirds Roll (better with soy sauce) - Satay Chicken (hubby liked)111 Disliked: - California Roll - Chef's Fried Rice (shrimp spicy level 0) - Crab Rangoon - Fresh Basil Shrimp Roll - Fried Calamari - Green Curry - Green Salad - Gyoza Wonton Soup - Jungle Curry - Memphis Roll - Pad Kee-Mao (Drunken Noodle) - Pad See Ew (Pork 10) - Roasted Chicken & Garlic Basil Sauce

We dined at Thai places quite a bit in the past, but it has been awhile because I struggle with selecting a healthy dish when there is all that fried rice. Last night the spouse wanted Thai. I did look at the menu for a long time, but nothing sounded good and healthy. The server did offer that any of the dishes could be vegetarian (nice). I am not a sushi fan, but after a basil roll appetizer (yum) I opted for a vegetable sushi roll. I think this is pretty healthy and I liked it with soy sauce. I don't think I'll be moving on to fish anytime soon, but I may explore the veggie options again. I tried some of the spouse's pad Thai and it was a little heavy on the fish sauce for me. Not a huge portion, but not cheap either.

Arrived with a group of 8 for a 5:30 reservation on Saturday evening. A short wait and we were seated in the back corner in a room where groups are typically seated. Being early it was quiet and we were promptly greeted and our drink orders taken. One theme for the evening was the inability of the staff to deliver more than 1 or 2 things at once, dragging out drink, appetizer, and entree delivery to borderline unacceptable levels. Those in our party who orders apps as entrees were given their meal way too early, and even the entree delivery was staggered so much that some were half done with their meal by the time the last dishes were being delivered. My date and I ordered the spicy tuna stuffed avocados and the steamed mussels for the table and were not disappointed with either. The sauce/onions on the mussels in particular was very flavorful. For an entree we split the Panang Curry with beef. I was hoping to mentally compare it with the Noodle Star (Bartlett) version I had on Friday at lunch. Presentation was lacking (see picture) but it was quite tasty. I did feel the curry was a bit thin and lacked some of the rich complexity that I love in the curries at Noodle Star. At 9 level heat I found a nice balance of heat and flavor. As with most Thai places... If you love heat err on the higher side when requesting spice levels. The food overall was very good... But I still prefer Noodle Star, even without factoring in the 30-50pct price premium you pay at Bangkok Alley. The ambiance is obviously significantly better, but for flavor and value I can only give them 4 stars. Another service issue of note is there seemed to be some confusion as to who was supposed to deliver our checks as we sat for a good 15-20mins talking after our table was cleared. We finally asked about the checks and they brought them quickly.

We had a group of eight for an early dinner. It was slow when we arrived and we were seated quickly. Drinks and apps were brought out and we ordered our meals. Apps intended to be eaten as apps were brought out quickly. Apps intended to be entrees and the entrees were brought out in waves. Some were halfway through with their meals before others were served. I had the Crab Meat & Spicy Tuna Stuffed Avocado appetizer ($9.00) recommended by a friend. It was firm and tasty, very mild for a spicy dish. I didn't notice any tuna in the topping and it was less flavorful than I expected. I split the Panang curry with beef. The sauce was interesting and had a bit of heat to it. I'm a little more tolerant to heat than others, but I think it would be easy for most to stomach. Once everyone finished eating and the dishes were cleared, we finished our drinks and started looking around for our server to ask for our checks. At this point, we were going to run late for our evening plans so I walked around and asked someone that looked like a manager for them and they were brought quickly and with an apology for the delay as she thought they were already dropped. Decent food. Lacked in service, but I'm sure we'll be back at some point.

Having been to Thailand a few times, I enjoy authentic Thai food. This Thai is ok. Authentic enough to warrant 3.5 stars though rounding up to 4 because they have the option to go all out with the heat. I got level 10 on my green curry. Eating it hot is the only way to go! The waitressing could of been much better. She had us waiting way too long and got our to-go order heat level wrong. We had decided to take an extra dish for home for later. The poor service is not reflected in the review because maybe she was having a bad day or was new. Overall, decent Thai food.

My first time here - ordered take out. I realized after I placed the phone order that I did not specify spice level and the girl taking the order didn't bother to ask. Kind of odd, however, the spice was low. I would have preferred a little hotter level. Green curry with chicken - Good taste and a nice amount of veggies (sprouts, zucchini & peppers), chicken and basil. This dish comes with rice. The amount amount of rice however was lacking. The to go container was just over half full. Would it really kill them to fill it up?? Drunken Noodle (Pad Kee Mao) - A little spicier than the green curry dish. The flavor was decent. I would have preferred a little more "sauce." There was too much oil used, so the dish was a little on the greasy side. Seemed like they relied on the oil for flavor and not the "special cooking wine sauce." Good basil flavor and the added egg made for an interesting touch. $13 for each dish, which I would consider pretty pricy for the amount of food. It wasn't a small portion, but wasn't big either. I can't comment on the sit down service, but the hostess taking care of me seemed more preoccupied socializing with her work partner than interacting with me. It wasn't too bad though, I was in and out relatively quickly.

I don't know why I had never been here, considering it's close to my house. Sushi was good and fresh. Seaweed salad was one of the better ones I've had. Service was fast and friendly. Other than the loud, obnoxious high schoolers sitting next to us, it was a pretty great experience. I'll be back.

My family and I got takeout from here. The food was good, but for the price, the portions were very skimpy. I ordered Massaman with chicken and it was delicious, but there wasn't a lot of chicken. Also, the are known to get parts of your takeout order wrong. I made sure to check before leaving the restaurant and there was a missing order of spring rolls. All in all, it is good Thai food. I would eat here again.

My family and I have been here 3 times and we all enjoy this place. Not the best I've ever had, but definitely the best place I've found in the area for Thai so far. Our server remembers us and she is always very nice and accommodating, as are the other staff members. We ordered the avocado tuna appetizer, it was just ok, that was not a favorite of ours. For entrees, we had the panang curry and massaman curry...good stuff. However one small thing that could be improved, the two times we ordered the massaman the flavor is good, but it had a lot of onions and not as much chicken and potatoes. Both our desserts were delicious, the fried ice cream and the mango pie. Another time we came, we ordered the tom kha soup with chicken (delicious!), crab rangoon (alsp good), and the drunken noodles served mild. We did add extra sauce to the drunken noodles to make it sweeter and a tad bit spicier, and it was good. The thai tea is also good. Have also tried the pad thai, it honestly wasnt that impressive to me. My husband LOVES the peanut sauce with the salad. He gets those two items with a side of rice and he is a happy camper. I ventured out and tried the fish, scallops and shrimp in the coconut curry sauce - it is definitely good! Ordered this several times since then. Tried sushi here and was kind of disappointed. It looks better than it actually is. Sakura will remain my spot for sushi. At any rate, this is our thai "go to" spot. We will definitely be back!

I love love love the location on Brookhaven Circle so I figured I'd try this one since it's closer to my house. The food did not disappoint. It was great. The service was a little on the slow side but the server was very friendly. I got the roast duck which is so flavorful and delicious. You have to try it!

There are three Bangkok Alley's in the area, downtown, east Memphis, and Collierville. This is by far the best of them. I asked the waiters of all locations why the Collierville location is just better, and the major consensus is that the grill here is hotter! The manager here claims that she also has a higher quality control than the locations as well, which I agree consistency-wise. Satay chicken is the best over here. Seriously, get the satay chicken here. They will actually have good grilled marks and make the chicken taste like real grilled chicken instead of like steamed chicken like many other Thai restaurants serve... I'm a noodle lover, so I get the pad Thai and the drunken noodle all the time. I would say the although they aren't my favorites, but they're good regardless. I would have preferred more egg and drier noodles. The red and green curries are exactly what I would expect. Bangkok Alley also use quality ingredients in all their dishes. Probably due to their grill, the steaks are just the bomb! I would only get steak here instead of the other Bangkok Alley's. I also prefer to have steak here than at a steakhouse like Longhorn nearby. Many people complain that they don't like the steaks here because the steak is grilled separately and not integrated with the dish, but how else are you going to make a medium rare tenderloin go with the dish? I've tried their sushi here, but I think I'll pass next time... Sekisui and Osaka nearby are better for it, especially Sekisui now with the current head sushi chef. So let's summarize... Get the satay chicken and the steaks here!

Love their Pad Thai and appetizer sampler. Fresh and tasty! Can't wait to try more there.
I am a world traveler and Thai food is one of my favorites. I rely heavily on the curries and beef salads to judge a Thai restaurant. That being said, both their panang curry and namtok beef salad are outstanding. They can make them both to your standard of spice and can really bring the heat if asked for. We have always had great service as well. The ambiance is perfect for a date, and the price is far less than you would pay at a nice place equal to the caliber of this one. I highly recommend this place. It's one of the best Thai restaurants in the country. They also have sushi, which I have not yet tried.

It always seems Bangkok Alley gets a bit of the 'meh' in the ratings. It is just not deserved! The Memphis area is just not resplendent with Thai restaurants. While Bangkok Alley may not rank with the best around the nation, for a local chain, it does fine. The Pad Thai is perfect and will light you up (both now and later) if you are not careful on the spice rating. And be careful... You will be asked for a 1 to 10 rating on spice, but depending on who is in the kitchen, your 5 could become a 10, and 10 could become lave from hell. Spice rating can be inconsistant to say the least. I will 'ding' the alley on service, but really, good service is getting hard to come by in most mid tier restaurants. Bangkok Alley is no different from most in the area on the service aspect. The Collierville location does have a great bar and atmosphere - the Piano player is a good add if there. Here is the hidden gem - the Bomb sushi roll - don't miss that one. If you are looking for a nice cheap night out - with an easy eye to the alcohol - you can be out on Date Night for under $30. Of course, I am seldom easy on the alcohol...

Good service and the curry is good. They will let you get the curry on a spicy scale of 1-10 and all ingredients are very fresh. They also have a very good sushi menu and the chef makes very flavorful rolls, that look like art.

I disagree with some of the reviewers below. I've been to several of the Bangkok Alley locations around town, and they are all very comparable on service. I have never had to wait long for my dinner and it's always been presented to me by an attentive waiter. I really enjoy the food here as well. It's not the best of the best in Memphis, in my opinion, but it's very good. I especially love their Pad Thai and Green Curry. The Collierville location has a pianist on some nights which is very nice and relaxing and the patio is nice as well.

One word sums up this restaurant - "BLAND." Thai food is supposed to have bright crisp flavors, the food here had none of this. The Potstickers (not really a Thai dish) are supposed to be steamed & then browned on the bottom of the dumpling. These were dropped in hot grease and deep fried. The Chef's fried rice with beef was boring. The Pad See Yeu had very little broccoli and no ground peanut. This was a real disappointment as this restaurant is close to our home.

Food was good, but I wouldn't say "great". Small portions. Very pricey. For the cost, you'd expect more ambience and less nose rings/ear grommets.

If I could give it a 2.5, I would. 3 seems generous, but 2 seems cruel. My Quest for Thai has brought me to Collierville, TN, just outside of Memphis. Their website looked promising, as did the other review on Yelp, so I figured I'd try it. Followed my typical "order a million small things" philosophy, I went with my old standards. The verdict: A resounding "meh." Sum Tom: Meh. Impressive that they serve it here, but the papaya isn't very crunchy, and it just doesn't have the depth of flavor I seek. It's spicy and a little salty, and not much else. Tom ka gai: Meh. I was pleased not to find many mushrooms, but I imagine the reason most folks get this soup is for the fungus. The soup base is decent, but there's nothing else in it to inspire me. No veggies, no galangal; just a few pieces of chicken. Meh. Larb chicken: Less than meh. Lovely presentation, but no flavor whatsoever... almost like they forgot to toss it in the dressing or something. There were mint leaves in there, but they didn't taste minty at all, even when I ate them solo... not sure what that's all about. If I licked the bottom of the take-out dish, I could taste the lime/chili goodness, but I'm not gonna work that hard, sorry. Fresh basil rolls with shrimp: I asked for them without shrimp, and they said "No problem!" but alas, they came with shrimp. After I deconstructed the rolls, I was saddened to find a few pieces of questionable basil in there... black spots, not very fresh (or flavorful, even). Chicken Pad Thai: The only genuinely tasty thing I've had. Can't really screw it up, though. Sticky rice with coconut cream: Delicious by default, but again, it didn't move me. Whatevah. Go to Jaja's instead.

This is the second of the Burana family's restaurant of the same name. The first one is in Cordova. The husband is Thai and the wife, American. The Collierville restaurant has been highly successful from the moment they started business. They have the perfect location catching both the Collierville and Germantown residents. Of course, they serve good tasting food so that helps. The dinner menu is much more extensive however I don't know if I want to go to a Thai place to have a 20 dollar catfish dish and miss out on all the good stuff they serve. I usually get my usual basil fried rice, pad kee mao / drunken noodles (yes this is a Thai dish 'coz I had it by the roadside in Bangkok and the taste is pretty darn close to it :D) and/or a crispy spring roll - which is nothing out of the ordinary but good nonetheless. The Collierville restaurant has a nicer, more modern un-Memphis ambience :) But I feel the servers are not as well trained. Some nights they have 'live' piano and/or outdoor patio entertainment. They also have a full sushi bar but I don't know... if I want sushi, I'd go to a Japanese place. Then again, if you're not picky about sushi, I suppose here is as good as anywhere else in Memphis to get a bloody non-Japanese roll of some kind :) note: if you like spicy, ask for the thingy of three or four different hot sauces - the sambal olek (red one) is good mixed with the sweet sauce served with the crispy roll, the fresh chilli in fish sauce is good in pad kee mao and the chilli powder is awesome in the basil fried rice. I can feel my face sweat just talking about it :D

me and my friend went there back in june...we actually wanted to go eat at Petra Cafe but found out that it's moved and now it's At's Pizza. so we settled for Bangkok Alley...i was not very enthusiastic about it since I had just came back from visiting Thailand, and there was no way a thai restaurant in COLLIERVILLE of all places would have better thai food than...well...THAILAND... anyways. i was not about to take chances with their thai food so i had the ahi tuna salad, which was pretty good. my friend had some sort of stir fried noodle dish, he liked it. i was pretty happy because they had singha beer coz it brings back memories.

The Health Department would have a heart attack. My husband and I went out, hopefully, for some good Thai food. We decided to sit and eat at the bar. The female bartender, with the dread locks, was courteous. We ordered some summer rolls and pot stickers. The summer rolls were OK, the pot stickers, obviously, were frozen and instead of streamed, they were deep-fried. Not good and very greasy, We ordered fried rice with beef and Pad see yew. We asked for the beef to be medium rare (it was well done) and the Pad see yew had 4 pieces of broccoli and no peanut flavor what so ever. Both of those dishes lacked flavor. Here comes the Health Department part.....while sitting at the bar having dinner we watched the female bartender play with her dread locks with a pick of some kind for 4-5 minutes 3 different times, only to go mix martini's and put her hands in the ice. Did I mention that she never washed her hands? Big time Yuk! Dread Locks seem dirty enough, but play with them and then serve food and mix drinks. I was not impressed and the dread lock playing gave me the creeps and unsanitary.

Family owned and they care. Never a sour service, been here hundreds of times without a single bad meal. They offer fresh, authentic and culinary eye pleasing dishes.

Did a call in order and substituted broccoli for the peppers and they charged extra. When I got there , they just put my order. I am not happy tonight

We are regulars here... It's the best Thai restating in town !!! The sushi rice balls with the coconut Thai gravy is heaven!!

I don't know why I had never been here, considering it's close to my house. Sushi was good and fresh. Seaweed salad was one of the better ones I've had. Service was fast and friendly. Other than the loud, obnoxious high schoolers sitting next to us, it was a pretty great experience. I'll be back.

I have been to this place one time. The atmosphere is nice and relaxing. The server was friendly and the food was brought out quickly. I will certainly go back.

There ain't many thai food options in Memphis and this one is the better of the lot. Good panang curry. Portion sizes are decent.

Consistently great food and Service, tried most items on menu rarely disappointed...

You can't go wrong! Pad see ew (sp) awesome! Lots of flavor!

The food is way overpriced and as far as quality---disappointing. We had the chicken larb (normally made with beef). It was watery and not at all in-line with what we have eaten before. The pad Thai----both the wife and I had the beef pad Thai.....they asked us how we wanted our meat cooked (never been asked that before). The pad Thai was dry and under-seasoned. The beef----they put a small sirloin sliced on the bias on top of our noodles instead of sautéing it with the other ingredients. They also put the peanuts on the side instead of cooking them with the dish allowing the natural oils to come out. I understand there are those with peanut allergies----don't order this dish then. We will not be back....

Wow was that awesome!! Had the Pad Thai, Satay chicken and curry. Just found my favorite restaurant in Collierville. The flavors were outstanding!!
(5)Bryan M.
Average Thai, what I would expect in Memphis.
(3)Chloe S.
I love this place!! They have the best massaman curry and because I'm a vegetarian adding tofu just adds to the dishes epicness. The staff is very friendly and if you're new to Thai food they are super helpful in helping you pick out something delicious.
(5)Heath G.
Good service and the curry is good. They will let you get the curry on a spicy scale of 1-10 and all ingredients are very fresh. They also have a very good sushi menu and the chef makes very flavorful rolls, that look like art.
(3)Jolynna M.

(1)Cris W.
