They are always very friendly and welcoming , I love a place that remembers you and what you like , Its a family owned place so there isn't a lot of frills but the Thai food is always made to order as you like it .

I've caught a lot of flack from the locals for my opinions of Duke's Diner (including a claim that I am "aristocratic and only frown on Duke's because I feel everything from Tennessee is inherently terrible", which is not true), but I'm glad to see that many others have agreed with me that the Thai served there is not only a poor excuse for authentic Thai, but pretty revolting in general. I feel bad railing the place so hard as it is a small, humble, family-owned and operated joint. It would be a beautiful example of the American Dream at work...if the food was good. Which it's not. Sorry. I've heard some of the "American" dishes were ok, but as the Thai food is what sets it apart from the dozens of other greasy spoons in Clarksville, I did not try any of those dishes and don't feel particularly compelled to give them a chance. My husband and I both ordered chicken Pad Thai, but what we got was not like Pad Thai I've had anywhere else. It was covered in a curiously red, greasy sauce. There was no egg in it or nuts, it was pretty much just chicken, noodles, green onions and this red sauce. And the sauce was completely flavorless. No hints of lime or lemon, peanut flavoring, ginger...nothing. My husband ate his, but after about three bites, I deemed mine completely inedible. It was the first time I ever paid to eat at restaurant and went home hungry.

Bad pad Thai :( it was labeled "chef special" but I hope it isn't. Never going back.

Food was gross! I love Thia food but not from here. The food was bland and the chicken I ordered tasted like it was frozen then cooked into shoe leather. First time I have ever had peanut sauce that looked like regurgitated chewed peanut mixed with sweet, spicy chilli sauce. It was gross! Peanut sauce is pretty basic. Do not eat here! I will never go back!

Not that I assume there are many of us in this state, but if you're a vegetarian, stay away from this place. My husband and I went here for what we thought would be a nice Thai meal and left without ordering. They have no tofu and none of the entrees were particularly vegetable heavy, so paying full price for an entree without anything other than noodles and bean sprouts isn't high on my list of fun things to do. Is there hope for the American food featured on the front of the menu? Nope. Hamburgers, steak, club sandwiches, etc. It's a sad, sad place when the only vegetarian option at a Thai restaurant is spaghetti.

In the edited words of Kanye West... "[Duke's Diner] doesn't like black people." You see, I've eaten here a few times because it does have mediocre Thai food (& when you live in Clarksville, you take what you can get when it comes to Thai cuisine). I really don't feel like recounting the entire story, because honestly- it was really upsetting, but one time I ate here with my friend- who is black. The waitress/ co-owner was obviously rude towards her (but not me!) the entire meal, and when she mentioned the chicken in her dish was still cold on the inside (which I can vouch for) after paying- the lady started screaming at her ("You are lying! Never come back here again!" and much more). I know, I know. It seems absurd and far-fetched, but it totally happened. And there were other tables there! It was so embarrassing and shocking- I couldn't stop saying, "I can't believe this is happening." Thankfully, my friend is super classy and level-headed, and escorted me out after saying, "I've never been treated like this before in my life." It was awful. We called the BBB and all that... I realize this is a diner in the South. I also realize it's 2010, and the business is co-owned by a woman who is also a member of a racial minority. l really don't think this place should be supported until they go to some racial reconciliation and/ or anger management classes.

I went back to Duke's and tried the Thai Beef Noodle Soup and it was really good. I like the little bowls of spices so you can tailor how spicy you want it. I had a sweaty scalp, runny nose and my eyes were burning because I rubbed them with chili on my hands, it was great!!! I'm going back tomorrow to try something else.

As we entered the restaurant, there was an older gentleman that said to us to just sit where ever we want. I am assuming he's "Duke"?? There was an Asian lady behind the counter reading a newspaper. Received no greeting whatsoever. I knew that I would not be getting an authentic Thai meal in Clarksville, TN. I get that. But what I did get was not even remotely close to what I thought I would get. It was so bad. I got chicken satay thinking it was going to be our appetizer. It was not. It was brought to us the same time as our entrees. It was some weird looking cut up chicken breast awkwardly placed on 2 skewers. The skewers sat on a bed of rice w some cucumbers on the side along with a peanut sauce. I guess this is supposed to be a meal since it came on a bed of rice. I ordered beef salad as my entree. This also came on a bed of rice w romaine lettuce. Very weird. This was a poor poor attempt of a sad version of beef Num tok. When I said weird, I meant it was stir fried. If anyone has ever had Thai beef salad or Num tok made the correct way, would know that it is not stir fried. It was dark red with diced beef chunks. It had diced white onions, diced tomatoes, and the strangest ingredient of all- diced green bell peppers! No. No. No. There are no bell peppers in Thai beef salad or Num tok. It should have had thinly sliced red onions and green onions. The flavors should be sour-salty-spicy. It was just a hot stir fried mess on a bed of rice. My husband ordered beef curry. This was red curry with bamboo shoots, thinly sliced beef strips and basil. Again, on top of a bed of rice. It should really be in a bowl and come with a bowl of rice and the diner should be able to spoon the curry onto the rice. Not just piled on some rice. It was lacking flavor. My husband did not enjoy his meal. During our meal, the two of us just kept kicking ourselves for not going elsewhere. If you are in the mood for Thai food, do NoT go to Duke's. You will be sorely disappointed. If you have never had the pleasure of having Thai food before, please do not let this be the first place. This is NOT Thai food. FYI, they also serve American food. Btw, I must admit that I am a bit of a Thai food snob. I am a chef and am also Thai. I grew up working in my parent's Thai restaurant. So I know what Thai food should look like and how Thai food should taste.

We had eaten at Duke's a few times over that past years and have always found their food to be pretty good, not fantastic but still ok. They had some coupons in the City Saver in 2011, the school system fundraiser. The coupons were for buy one entree and get one free, up to $8. So naturally we went there a lot more often than we would have. We went yesterday and used the last coupon because it clearly stated on the coupon that it was "Good Through February 1, 2011". The owner refused to take the coupon by saying they had been flooded with the coupons and weren't taking them anymore. I will never go back there ever again. They have contracts with City Saver to fullfill the coupons and it's not my fault they didn't want to hold up their end of the bargain. I would have refused to pay for half the meal if it would have been me paying but unfortunately I had already left when my husband was paying the tab.

So this is a funny place. You don't find a lot of American diner Thai fusion restaurants. I've eaten here twice now and haven't been thoroughly impressed. The first visit I ordered a Thai dish (don't remember which one) and kindly inquired for the older Asian lady to make it as hot as possible. She questions my intention and I inform her that if I had a super power it would be to eat impossibly hot food and that she should try and hurt me. My commentary was not well received as her response is that I have no manners. Perhaps she is right.. The Thai food was a little bland and not suitably hot how I would expect from a proper Thai establishment. So fast forward to the next visit. We sit down and the old man and Asian lady are chatting. We wait probably 10 minutes before someone comes over. No big deal. Naturally we are ready to order after 10 minutes of waiting. Again.. no big deal. The old man comes over and asks us for drinks, we reply 4 waters and additionally sir we are ready to order. He looks at me, leans in and emphatically reiterates that he will take our DRINK order.. I forgo my readied explanation of the defining characteristics and sole purpose of a food service provider and settle with a "thank you." I find myself wondering when it becomes advantageous to become argumentative or confrontational with a customer? I have no conclusion for this. Again, the food was mediocre for an above average price. Main advantage of Dukes: only Thai food in the local area. Conclusion: not great food but mildly entertaining.

The pad Thai was delicious. I've never had cilantro in it or scallions but I actually liked both. I love scallions so I wasn't upset about that addition at all!

The curry was good and the pad Thai was ok. I agree with a previous review that I wish there was tofu and more veggies in the meal. Overall, it was pretty good Thai food for the area and the service was fast and friendly. If they just added some tofu peppers/broccoli/onions/peas to their dishes, I would be a regular!

Moved the area a year ago and are here and it was okay. Went back today and it's just not good. The beef pad thai was very oily, salty and way over spiced (even for hot, and someone who enjoys spicy food) no flavor. Also got the green papaya salad, which is my favorite thai dish, and it was gross. It came with tons of lettuce for no reason and the papaya wasn't green, it was mushy and over liquid. Thai food is so hard to find in this area but I can do better at home. Service is friendly but its WAY to expensive for what you get! Will not be returning.
