I was part of a party of 5. We arrived at about 5:30 on a Sat. Everyone in our party was very happy with their food, My wife and I had the crab cakes. Very good, but some special sauces would have made it o so much better. The place serves Pappy Van Winkle, which is a real plus. One of our group had shrimp n grits. The shrimp n grits were super good. I would ignore some of the low scores due to startup stuff and try this place. We finished with creme brule. It was very tasty.

Soooo disappointing! I wanted to like this place but they failed on so many levels! The atmosphere is pretty cool but the food was a complete let down. Meats were over cooked, shrimp didn't taste fresh, cocktails were not balanced and terrible, salad dressing was salty.... Oh, and we found a piece of masking tape in an entree! The chef apologized and assured us it was sanitary tho... WHAT?! I'm sorry, but no, that is unacceptable. This place is way too expensive to make these kind of mistakes.

After navigating the calamity by the door and into the small waiting area, Sunday brunch was disaster. Not enough servers. Out of champagne for mimosas. One of our party had to change his entrée because they were out of the ingredients. Food was just so so.

I went there for brunch today with my husband and 2 friends from out of town. 2 of us got the biscuits and gravy which were exceptionally good! One friend got the PB & J omelet which she really liked. My husband got the special which was a smoked pork omelet. It was good, but probably not the omelet he would choose next time. Service was descent especially considering they filled up quickly after we were seated. Overall, it was a great experience and we will definitely be back!

Root Kitchen & Wine Bar has a great menu. I had the short ribs which were good but the root veggies and grits were very tasty. My husband had the burger and it was good as well. The happy hour is great and my wine was delicious. Honestly, although the food and drinks were enough to bring us back, our server, Derek, was amazing. He went beyond expectations.

Amazing place for corporate and private dinners. Menu is niche, beer list is amazing and includes curveballs even for the avid brewmaster. All ingredients are locally sourced. Rotating menu makes it difficult to name personal favorites but the flatbreads were awesome.

"What a cute & nifty restaurant. It was the perfect ambiance for a mother daughter date. We ordered the amazingly tasteful Roasted Pablano Crab Cakes & we were extremely excited about how great they were. And just to top it off we had the tastiest grapefruit mint mimosas, how unique is that? Last but not least were one of my favorite things which were the beautiful icicle lights all over the restaurant. #MemoriesMade Now can't wait to go back with the fiancé!"

Threw a Birthday party for my lady and the staff totally knocked it out of the park! I walked in off the street with less than a week before the event and Chef Adam met with me right away. He and his staff made planning and pulling off the event so easy yet made us feel totally special. We reserved the back 1/2 of the bar area for about 17 people. We laid out apps for an hour with the bar serving us so we could all mingle, then we sat down for entrees off a specialized menu Adam helped me put together. The food and cocktails were fantastically unique, delicious and impressed our completely diverse group, with peeps from TN, NYC, NJ, SoCA and AZ! Two staff members handled our entire group and they were just as good as the food. Here's the kicker- I called earlier that day having forgot to order a Birthday Cake and the baker on Root's staff made an incredible white coconut B-day cake which was another hit! Totally recommend letting Root take care of you for a special night as a group or just one-on-one.

We visited Chattanooga this weekend and we were delighted to find Root! The food was frankly wonderful! Being from New Orleans, we feel pretty spoiled so to this point, our other meals had been kind of pedestrian. Root was an amazing meal for sure! If you live in Chattanooga, ya gotta try it! The one of the chef/owners stopped table side to visit with us and insisted we try the grits which were wonderful. We chatted about the farm to table practices and local focus and it soon became obvious the flavors were reflecting the careful practice described. Onto the food - we started with a Bibb lettuce salad and the red pepper crab cakes. Both were great stuff but I was partial to the cakes. Both were wonderfully fresh and well done. Next we ordered the bacon marmalade flatbread and the side of bacon brazen Brussel sprouts. I agree with other reviews about the flatbread being a touch sweet but it was well within acceptable to me! Now, the final order we made in the dinner parade was the pork cheek appetizer. This was a perfectly cooked braised pork cheek. I mean the dish was fantastic! We know pork down here in NOLA and this dish could be on any local bistros menu and get lots of attention. We were both floored! This is clearly a gem in the Nooga (learned the term while there) that is finding its legs and is offering some amazing foods! We were really impressed and we hope that the local crowd keeps this place busy!!! Really great experience for sure!!!!

This place has a welcoming feel just on the other side of the Tennessee River. Gentlemen, if you're looking for a date night spot then look no further than Root. Started with the Climber's High tea which was very good and just what I needed before a long drive. The tea is tasty, fresh, and smooth. Squash soup ensued and was the best part of my meal. Creamy, sweet, and nutty with a perfect flavor profile. I also got the sorghum glazed rainbow carrots. The flavor was light and the carrots a bit undercooked. The glaze itself could pack more of a punch in my opinion. Finally, I sank my teeth into the Swiss chard wraps. I was warned that they were spicy, but I was not told that's all they would be. The dipping sauce added a small amount of flavor that left me wanting more. Root clearly has exceptional ingredients that lay a nice foundation for excellent dishes. It seems the execution underwhelmed this plant-eating guest. Maybe I will give this place another shot once I eat meat again...

This restaurant has a nice atmosphere, sort of industrial chic. It was formerly called Elemental. When it was, it had a type of organic menu. It's somewhat like that now with new ownership, but the servings are smaller, but quite expensive for what one gets. I had an oyster stew which was far different from I'm used to. It was about a cup of cubed potatoes, chopped tomatoes, minced oysters, I think they were oysters, a piece of watercress, and some kind of overly spiced sauce. Not a soup, and not what I'd consider a stew in the traditional sense. It's served in a large bowl where the serving is lost. For $8 a "bowl" it's not worth it. I also had a green salad made from a variety of large green and red leaves of some type, shaved vegetables, that were so thin as to be tasteless. Three stars for atmosphere; two stars for the food. Three stars for presentation. Four stars for our server. The flourless brownie was pretty good, served warm like chocolate lava cake. Again, quite small, and for $6, expensive for what you get.. Overall, not a good value. Average: 2.5 stars. Ho hum.

I can't help but compare this restaurant to Elemental since it's in the same location and still looks very similar. I'd say it is definitely better, but I was still a little disappointed overall. They have a very creative cocktail menu, but I can't really speak to those since I had wine. I ordered the beef short ribs, which they were out of, then I decided on crab cakes and a mushroom flatbread, both of which were good but not great. I also tasted two other flatbreads ordered by others, they were good too. I also tasted the Brussels sprouts, which was the only dish I would call above average, and they were amazing! I split the cheesecake with a friend, and I would not recommend it :/ I think this place is "good," and I'm glad I tried it. If another friend wants to check it out I will definitely go again, but for the price range I think my money would be better spent elsewhere.

Just OK. The atmosphere is incredible, there is so much potential here. I love their space. I went for dinner with a friend and we were one of only about 3 other tables in the whole place. We split the burger, lentil soup, and sweet potato chips. The sweet potato chips were plain and the lentil soup cold (good flavor in the soup, though). The service was just ok considering we were her only table. I may just have super high expectations because there are just so many other gems to explore in Chattanooga but I wasn't crazy impressed.

Pleasantly surprised! I got a very tasty mushroom crostini and the vegetable pasta in a Parmesan cream sauce. Very delicious! Finished my meal with a cup of herbal tea. Was expecting a bag but it was a nice quality loose tea, which I absolutely enjoyed! Service was outstanding, our waitress was helpful with dinner choices and kept water glasses always full. I'll totally go back.

Cool place. I thought the bacon marmalade flatbread was a bit overly sweet, but she didn't. Good fried green tomatoes. Disjointed service was too chatty. Broom and dustpan in the dining area were big no-no's, as was the visible garbage can in the service island.
